Gods and faeries!!!!!
Wasteland baby!!!
I'm SO curious
okay i KNOW i have to have talked about g&f on this blog before at some point bc it’s literally my entire brand and i never shut up about it (i mean…. this is my twitter bio:
Tumblr media
) BUT looking over the wip doc i don’t have that much of it written down digitally beyond an outline ?? probably because i wrote a lot of it 🫣 in my actual notebooks during college lectures SO here’s the one snippet i can find right now:
The soupers had come around again, crying out at the gate. Steve could barely lift his head by that point. Bucky spit on them the last time, but they never seemed to learn that Steve cared more about saving his immortal soul than sparing himself the pangs of hunger.
here’s a basic synopsis: steve rogers has always been an odd child, anyone in town could tell you that. he has few friends between james barnes and Margaret, the daughter of his english landlord. then, during a horrible period of famine, the widowed sarah rogers succumbs to illness and dies, and steve shamefully has no money to give her a proper burial. determined to protect her makeshift grave and her soul from the tricksy fae, steve sleeps outside atop the soil all night long, and when dawn arises, the frail young man is gone. most people write it off as another casualty of starvation, especially for one who was such a sickly child. only james is convinced that steve’s still alive, just stolen, even if he has to enlist the dubious help of a faerie doctor and journey to the otherworld to prove it. but while there he’ll discover a fate worse than famine.
the wasteland baby sessions were kind of a precursor to this^ based on hozier songs 💀 where bucky is an ancient irish warrior and steve is a spirit from the otherworld. as an example heres a oneshot i started but never finished:
Then a hand rose slowly out from the shallows of the pool, and the Buck stared in awe.
"How could this be?" said The Buck to no one. And he reached out, and took hold of the hand.
Snow, fat white flakes whipping across his eyelashes. An icy breath licking down his throat. Then, suddenly, the warmest sunshine he'd ever felt beaming down upon his purple-red cheek. The Buck sighed.
A man rose from the water, droplets dotting his milk white flesh and running down it in rivulets. There were as many beads of water as stars in the night sky. The Buck could have counted them for a year and never marked them all.

When I first heard There Are Other Ways, I was a little disappointed by the fact that Circe didn’t successfully seduce Odysseus, considering the huge Greek Mythology nerd I am.
Bear with me.
Then, I played the saga, and that song, for my wonderful mother tonight. About halfway through, I gasped.
The story is accurate to the Homeric version: he confronts her (clandestinely at first), she fights back, he pulls the sword.
But she’s not afraid. Of course she isn’t.
Why would an immortal being, with the rage and power of commanding a million different beasts if her Plan A goes down, be afraid of a measly man with a flimsy toothpick to her throat, just because he ate a flower and said “Be afraid!”?
That’s right! She wouldn’t.
Because Jay didn’t submit to the blatant misogyny of the tale.
Read this article for incredible information, if you please. It changed the way I saw Circe’s story.
If Circe cowered, simply because a man held a sword to her throat, only then would she have seduced him (if we’re going ultra-canon with the storyline, which Jay isn’t), which would have, yet again, thrown off the balance of power.
Circe could give less of a shit about the sword, in the song. She thinks he’s pretty hot, and maybe she’s manipulating him into coming to bed with her so she can trick him, so she offers a tryst or two. Here, if you read the article, she is throwing off the nature of men and women by being the active sexual partner.
He refuses, too enamored with Penelope, and shuns his curiosity in her. You can hear how it pains him, it’s a struggle to say no. But he does. He’s strong, he’s no god, cheating on his wife for the sake of sex appeal. He’s just a man.
He begs. That’s the thing that got me. Not her, him.
“So I beg you, Circe, grant us mercy, and let us puppets leave~”
Then, Circe offers to help him — not because she’s restoring the nature of being submissive — but because she has empathy and compassion for the man. She helps him because he’s proved himself, to be weary, and faithful, and human. She knows the feeling of love.
So, yes. So many layers. Like an onion, worthy of making you cry.
1. Jay is spitting in the face of misogyny and gender roles, and having her help him because she empathizes. Because she’s in power.
2. It’s sort of a jab, if interpreted a certain way, at sexual assault. He says no, and he holds true to it. Even though everything is telling him to give in, to let it happen, he refuses, and remains as sure as he can be.
3. It shows how very human Odysseus is. Athena forgot it, and somehow held him to it. Even the men forget it. But he never does. There is only so much he can do.
This is my favorite saga so far.

I didn't post the asks publicly for someone's privacy but I said a thing in a response that I think deserves to be public:
There are no differences in intelligence among people. Higher or lower levels of intelligence within humans is a myth created to divide folks and discriminate against them. There are only different kinds of intelligence (natural, mathematical, artistic, the list goes on) and different kinds of education. Some people have intelligences that get prioritized by society and good education, so they "seem smart". Those are privileges. But they're smoke and mirrors.
We all have knowledge and talents to bring to the table.
Don't let anyone tell you different.

Okay it’s 3am and I have to be at my first day of work at my new job in seven hours.. but I just had a THOUGHT.
So hear me out- Jay can control electricity. Obviously.
But has anyone else considered the idea of him being able to basically mind control other people?? Or hack their bodies?? Since humans literally run on electrical impulses??
Now I know Nya can’t draw the water out of his lungs, but that doesn’t mean that using your element inside someone else’s body is impossible. Maybe that’s just confined to other elemental masters. And of course I haven’t seen DR yet (two episodes away from finishing Crystallized!! I’ll have caught up with DR by this time next week for certain), but I’ve heard a lot of discussion about Jay coming back as a villain in S2… can you imagine how absolutely batshit of a villain Jay concept would be if he came back and just mind controlled people?? And it would totally tie into his cult leader antics as well (I’m still so sad that the League of Jays was pretty much abandoned after the first couple episodes… it was such a funny concept and could’ve actually been used for some fantastic plot/character development … but… alas :( )
Anyway. Basically all that to say I just got smacked in the face with a new Villain Jay idea and I’m soooo going to start using him for fic stuff. Maybe I’ll even tie it in to the AU concept I’ve been working on for a while.. maybe..

“Mythos, in Greek,” said Borges, “is not a story that is false. It is a story that is more than true. Myth is a tear in the fabric of reality, and immense energies pour through these holy fissures. Our stories, our poems, are rips in this fabric as well, however slight.”
Jorge Luis Borges, quoted by Jay Parini in Borges and Me

I love how you can hear how Hermes scrunches his nose and steps out in front of Odysseus.
