I feel like most fans on tumblr and fics really underestimate how kind and loving Jiraiya was. There’s a reason his death was so heart wrenching for a lot of fans. This was a man who chose to stay behind for months in the middle of a war to care and train for 3 children. He had other responsibilities. But he still took the time because he wasn’t willing to leave these kids defenseless.

And he wasn’t half-assing his efforts either. He trained them so well that they managed to form their own group to fight Hanzo.

Yeah his perverted nature didn’t age well. But you sort of have to keep in that’s what was passed as ‘humor’ at the time. It was a common trope meant to humanize and ‘endear’ the heroes teacher to the audience. Nowadays it would have probably been changed to something else or not have been needed at all. But he wasn’t made to be a pervert for the sake of making him a pervert.

There’s a reason Naruto loved him and considered him a father figure. Jiraiya’s own philosophy and ideology helped shape Narutos own ideas of what it meant to pursue true peace among the nations. That belief was tested by Pain, but it was Jiraiya’s influence on Naruto that gave him enough determination to not only commit himself to his beliefs regardless of how difficult it was, but to also convince Nagato to do the same. We call it talk no jutsu, but Naruto walked the talk and he learned these lessons from his teachers. Iruka, Kakashi and especially Jiraiya who he trained with for 3 years. Jiraiya’s teachings didn’t just influence Naruto either. It helped Minato shape his own. This was an incredibly beloved man and people seem to have forgotten that.
