So I'm at S3 already (yeah I binge watch, sue me). I doubt I'll ever be over the scream of absolute anguish and pain Izuku lets out when he miserably fails to save Katsuki from being kidnapped, god Bones really did a great job by letting that image run for a few seconds 😭

And of course the "Don't come, Deku"... Ah lord. Where do I even begin? That little shit still comes to save him anyhow because there is no way he is trusting anyone else to do it right shskkd.

Then we of course get the rescue part with Izuku being absolutely certain that Katsuki would not take his hand, and boy does this sting. Imagine the amount of sadness he must feel about this, having to tell Ei that he's the one who needs to call out to Kacchan because the bonds he had with him has been twisted into something painful over the years, my poor baby 💚

When you think of all of this, it's not so surprising that Izuku has trouble dealing with his true feelings. I'd also be afraid to voice them out if the most important person in my life seemed like he hates me.

And then... We get to the part after All Might vs. AFO with Yagi's "next is your turn" moment and Izuku crying and OF COURSE Katsuki is the only one obsessed enough with Deku to see the nerd not behaving like the rest of them.

This whole season is by far one of the best, I swear. Can't wait to get to deku Vs kacchan part 2 and unpack that one lol

When Katsuki Bakugo needed saving, Izuku came up with a plan where Todoroki, Iida, and Kirishima went rocketing across the sky to reach him.

When Izuku Midoriya needed saving, it was Katsuki, Todoroki, and Iida who went rocketing across the sky to reach him.

Both times, our Twin Stars decided to set their own needs aside and allow the other’s trusted friend to take the lead in bringing them home. Izuku knew Kirishima was the right choice to get Katsuki away from the league quickly and safely, and Katsuki knew Iida was the better man for the job of catching up to Izuku and bringing him back.

Can we please just take a moment to appreciate the parallels. Please.

One of my favorite tropes in bkdk plays into the fact that Izuku is, first and foremost, a goddamn otaku.

And this isn't focused on his nerding out over any and all Dynamight merchandise (though that is part of it), but that Izuku is a socially awkward clueless MESS who inwardly cheered the first time he spoke to a girl on the phone.

Izuku has no clue what he's doing when it comes to romance. He's gonna stutter and fumble over everything. He's going to miss so many cues. He's gonna be panicking at 2am to Kaminari and Kirishima, over whether or not Kacchan would appreciate a bouquet of flowers. He's going to end up giving Kacchan a lego bouquet instead. He's gonna feel like a perv anytime his thoughts turn anywhere slightly indecent towards Kacchan. He'll be even more enthralled by Kacchan than ever before. He's going to think a Matrix movie marathon counts as a date (to his luck, with Kacchan, it will.) He's going to inadvertently do the most heart-felt, romantic, suave things when he's not even trying.

Look. Basically he is just going to be like every graceless but well-intentioned nerdy boy in his first relationship. And to his saving grace, he'll be dating a boy just as socially awkward as him - but in a different flavor.

Event: Rescue Mission. . .

You are with Katsuki worrying as to why Miu Iruma, the Ultimate inventor, hasn't been answering any of Katsuki's texts or calls. Katsuki is hoping xey just ghosted them but if they are wrong they fear for the worst.

Then a tv broadcast is shown on the television in the corner. Katsuki stood up as to see what was going on.

It shows a blacked out figure

"Hello, you needn't know who I am, but Katsuki Namu, the Phoenix murderer. If you wish to see your beloved Miu ever again, you must come to the coordinates I'm about to send you from Xeir phone. And hurry up because if your not here by Midnight tonight... " the figure cut off and grabbed a gun

"You will never see or hear from xem again. "

The camera panned over to a girl facing to the side so you could only see a profile of xem.

Xey were in horrible condition and looked as though xey were going through xeir worst nightmare 1,000 times over again. Or as if... A life long secret had just been revealed to xem and they couldn't accept it.

The screen went to black and Katsuki dropped to their knees after standing for a while

"Oh god... I have to save them... I have to! " Katsuki said determined to save their girlfriend.

Izuku hugs himself tight as he trembles and sobs. He’s shivering violently in the dark when he hears his name in the distance.

No, not his name—

“DAMMIT DEKU WHERE ARE YOU??!”

He rubs his eyes and shouts one more time, “Kacchan!! Over here!!!”

He hears the sharp pops of Kacchan’s quirk. He can just barely make out his friend looking down into the hole.

“Hold on, Deku! I’ll come get you!”

“Wait, you’ll get stuck, too!”

But Kacchan floats down, and glares. “Get on my back,” he says. “And don’t let go, got it?”

Izuku smiles, “Kacchan’s my hero.”

I can’t believe I never saw this before.

Katsuki remembers his conversation with All Might about penance and atoning right in the middle of Deku’s solo fight against Shiguraki. And it would seem oddly placed if it weren’t for how that conversation ended, with All Might telling him that Izuku doesn’t blame him or think he needs to atone, but that they should talk it out themselves to clear the air.

And right as All Might says “You have plenty of time to talk” we transition back to Katsuki in real time, watching Deku risk everything, and starting to panic.

Yes, that episode is about Katsuki. Yes, we got insight into his head that wasn’t available before. This is the first time I think we understand that not only is he starting to change, he also sincerely regrets how he treated Izuku before. That’s all important and good.

But there’s something about All Might telling Katsuki he has time to fix things if he wants, transitioning directly to Katsuki realizing he might not have any time left at all to do anything right by Izuku, not if he dies fighting Shigaraki before Katsuki can work up the courage to talk to him.

It’s with those words from All Might echoing in his head that Katsuki jumps back into the action, ordering everyone around him, including the Number One hero, to help him execute a plan that would have worked if All For One hadn’t stepped in.

Katsuki is terrified that Izuku is going to die before he gets the chance to fix anything and that, my friends, is Good. Content.

mini rant but not completely negative

i think the reason i was offput by this chapter at first was the lack of insight of izukus inner feelings, like i get the show dont tell thing, but at the same time i WANT to see his inner turmoil. i want to KNOW what he feels in the inside. by the latter half of the series dekus emotions have been a complete enigma, we as an audience can tell theres something going on inside him but its been made a complete mystery, we saw how fucked up he got after the war arc and then the VH arc. but never ONCE we saw him express his pain, or how he feels just the outward reaction to it... which doesnt say that much.

izukus emotional depth feels so glossed over that it made me upset seeing the control your heart thing kinda be resolved WITHOUT knowing what deku felt on the inside. and right now couldve been a perfect time for us to know WHAT HES FEELING. and honestly, i thought how hed truly control his heart was coming into terms with himself and relying on others with his pain (basically vent), just like how katsuki was with kamino. thats how he would control his emotions better if he didnt have anything bottled up anymore which would mean he handles his emotions much more healthier now

but , im willing to give it the benefit of the doubt. izuku DID just arrive and maybe therell be more development and his inner feelings WILL FINALLY get touched on as the fight goes and learns controlling his hear during it. or maybe even later on. and thatt maybe hori is doing it on purpose. i really hope so.

and im ofc still looking forward how all this would go

Starting by this, I can totally imagine Katsuki in front of everyone showing up his amazing shape, the amazing person and future hero he is, sweating comfort in front of the spotlights. A bleeding sun. He is literally the greatest, he lights everyone by their eyes until they're burning of passion inside their heart. And Izuku fell, platonically or romantically, in love for him ages ago, and their road to greatness is full of signs that show his affection. He writes everywhere he can how he loves him, how he's fantastic, beautiful, brilliant, amazing.

I feel my ego when I talk

Lost myself in the in between

He really did this. There was a time, in Katsuki's life, in which he couldn't hear a single word from anyone. There was him and him only. He was the most important person in his own life. He lost himself. He lost everything. He surrounded himself with people who could praise him, and left behind Izuku, the only one who praised him so much at the point he wanted to be like Katsuki. And he didn't want to share it. Or maybe was he scared? And for what? It's a matter of fact that he left him behind, he treated him really bad.

Lustful eyes filled with love now

There was some malice in what he did back in middle school. Something horrible, something he soon regretted in the yuuei age. Something they're still recovering from. Something he doesn't want to happen ever again.

A few more souls on the bus now

Now they're not even alone anymore. Izuku has his own friends, and Katsuki has his own friends too. They're travelling together directed to something unknown, and still, they're together. A few more souls on the bus now. Because Izuku and Katsuki never left that bus in ages, and I think they never will.

Shut his eyes at a specific age. Seventeen are the age in which young adult are still discovering the world, too young, too dumb, to know things like love (~cit. Ghost Of You, 5SOS). He was so dumb he decided to be blind in front of everything. And when he'll be older, he'll think about those times in which he was just an annoying brat and will think about all the steps he took in order to be better. "Always hits me. I'm always shifting."

Told myself maybe someday

I'd fall down from the centerpiece

He knew this wouldn't have lasted forever. There would have been a time in which he would have to fight in order to stay in the first place. Yuuei is that challenging place where he would grow up and finally be a man, and a hero. Not that kind of jerk he used to be.

I treat my mind like an ashtray

I owe you an apology

His bad habits are falling apart. He's a new person. He's mature, serious, kind in his own way. Even to Izuku. He shows him some appreciation, he helps him, he let him help Katsuki himself. And he knows it, the time has come. When Izuku leaves yuuei, he discovers how he's omportant to him. Katsuki's brain was always full of bullshit he left there, stupid thoughts that hardly needs to be a real hero. And when his ideas are clear, and when Izuku is in front of him, those words fall down.

"I'm sorry, Izuku."

Breaking plans on a sunday

I forgot every birthday

It was hard to say it. Three words, during a well-done speech in front of everyone to show his real emotions. It took time. It took a plan. It took courage. But he did it. It was so important. He couldn't leave that scene as if it was nothing important. He changed: and now showing real affection and support was more important. it's a fact that Katsuki never gave a single shit about anyone. It's a saying, that he forgot everyone's birthday in that dark age also known as middle school.

Open-eyed right at twenty-three

He's mature. He's a hero. He can't fall behind. He's changing. There is nothing more than this. So stop criticising him for what he did as a brat. Look at all this character development. I think it is important. Really important. It always hits me, too, how people shift during their existence.

Iron out all of the crisis and just hang it out to dry

Shallow hearts for shallow minds

That ache to be alive

I guess this is, just, everything it took Katsuki to finally accept his changes. Isn't it unbelievable, what runs through someone's mind while he's thinking, while he's changing? How they're able to stay up all night and think, and to do it the following night, as the previous one? Do you really think he locked himself in his bedroom at 8pm just to sleep?

Where I stand

Just as you're losing yourself again, look in the mirror

I really believe this is what he told himself numberless times. "When you're losing yourself again, look in the mirror. Look who you are. Think about who you were, and where it led you. Now, look what you are, and think about where you're about to find peace." He always reminds himself of those hands. He always reminds himself of his hand. Izuku will never be left behind.
