ngl i got so scared they were gonna make mobius a fucking white picket fence two kids and a loving wife…and then they gave us “single dad” mobius “wife is long gone” hmm you’re really my friend? okay i ain’t arguing with a tall, handsome, dark haired stranger guess i’ll just follow you anywhere.
and then i was happy bc sylvie is so happy in her life!! by herself!!
and THEN i got so scared when loki & sylvie went for a drink and i was like alright here we go…and then i got “of course i know you. your friends are where they’re supposed to be. we’re writing our own stories. write your own.” and “i want my friends. i don’t want to be alone”
and then i was happy again bc she left to go listen to records!! and the record shop guy is cute! maybe she thought so. maybe not! she’s just vibing!!
and then i got, “it’s about who” while staring right at mobius.
what a fucking rollercoaster.

LET'S TALK ABOUT THE CHOICE LOKI WANTED TO GIVE MOBIUS
Tumblr media
Thanks for the comment, @sunflowerdigs!
I am also in HUGE debt to @loki-us for the below gifs that I could not find anywhere in Tumblr's gif search system. Thank you, friend! So many of my metas would not be possible without your help and support!
The poetic irony is definitely the point and is the reason why the S2 finale is as painful as it is.
I've previously discussed how Mobius would 100% absolutely choose to be with Loki at the End of Time and his decision-making history that points to this as being in-character here.
I also reviewed Loki's decision-making here.
Now let's discuss the choice Loki desperately wanted to give Mobius:

(Original gif set post here)
What I love about this scene with Sylvie is that it is a perfect example of narrative subtext at work. The emotional thrust behind Loki's words may be interpreted as either platonic or romantic. Ultimately, it doesn't matter (well, it does, but it's a minor detail) because the definitive meaning behind the subtext is what the TVA means to Loki and what he actually wants, which is getting Mobius back.
WHAT LOKI WANTS: TVA = FRIENDS = MOBIUS
Let's break down the scene:
Sylvie asks what Loki wants. Sylvie, we must remember, is a Loki. She knows how Loki thinks, how he hides his vulnerability, and how he lies to himself. This allows her to suss out what Loki has difficulty admitting. I absolutely adore Sylvie for this.
Tumblr media
1.) To stop HWR. - wrong
2.) To save the TVA. - wrong but closer; why?
3.) To save "all this" - too broad
4.) To save his friends. - correct
Ergo, stopping HWR is a means to an end, as it was for Sylvie. Saving the TVA could feasibly "save all this" from HWR, but who or what does Loki mean when he says "all this"? He means the timelines, certainly, but why does he care about the timelines? Because if all timelinee are destroyed, Sylvie and the TVA are destroyed too. Who is at the TVA? Loki's friends. Who is Loki's first and best friend? Mobius.
Therefore:
TVA = Friends = Mobius
Now, this isn't to play down the importance of OB, Verity, and Casey, but the series has been very clear about which friendship is the most significant to Loki. S2E1 -S2E4 builds up Loki and Mobius's closeness for the explicit purpose of likewise building up the cost of Loki's sacrifice. Their separation in the finale would not have been given as much attention nor hurt as much if they didn't become close.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The editing here is very intentional. In screenwriting, we call this technique "off screen dialogue", which is denoted by the character's name followed by (o.s.), then their line of dialogue.
In example, the shooting script might say:
On Don's reaction.
LOKI
(o.s.)
It was more about what I wanted.
If this wasn't formatted as such in the original script, it was likely formatted as such in the shooting script, which is a highly detailed version of the script with notes on how each scene should be shot in production and edited in post. The same cinematic technique is used in S2E4, after the pie confrontation with Sylvie, in which Brad, off screen, says, "Aren't you gonna say anything?" The dialogue overlays Mobius's reaction shot before cutting to the scene with Brad and Dox.
THE CHOICE LOKI WANTED TO GIVE (BUT COULDN'T)
It is also no accident that Loki very pointedly talks about Mobius, what he thinks Mobius wants, and how Mobius should have a choice. In making his point, Loki shows that he is actually quite confident that Mobius would choose the TVA and therefore, HIM.
But perched! The TVA means Loki's friends! How can the TVA also mean Loki?
THE TVA ALSO = LOKI
Well ...
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Thank you so much for your marvelous gif set @riotinyellow)
After the Loom explodes, everyone is returned to their original timeline except Loki. What is significant but not often discussed is that Sylvie is returned to her 1982 Broxton, Oklahoma timeline. She did not remain at the TVA despite being a Loki herself. The subtext of this is that Sylvie associates the 1982 timeline as where she belongs, where she feels at home. If we parallel this subtext to Loki, this means the TVA is where Loki feels he belongs and thus, feels at home. He only begins to timeslip once he realizes the people he cares about aren't there. Notably, Loki unconsciously timeslips to Mobius the most. I have a meta on Loki's timeslipping here.
Tumblr media
As people, we define ourselves not only by our past, our talents, our weaknesses, our interests, and our dislikes, we also define ourselves by our relationships (good and bad). The implication, therefore, is that TVA symbolically represents not only friendship and Mobius, it represents Loki, too.
The most painful part of Loki's argument, which is never communicated directly but is subtextually inferred, is that not only does Loki want Mobius to choose the TVA (him), he is confident that Mobius would choose the TVA (him). And why shouldn't Loki be confident? Mobius has been his most loyal friend. Mobius has never abandoned him even when he was angry with him.
This sets up the meaning behind the subtext of Mobius's departure from the TVA in the finale. Mobius insists the TVA provides him with meaning, that he likes it there, and that he is grateful for whoever took him and "gave [him] this pie" (interestingly, it is Loki who recruits Mobius first, gives him his name, and offers pie to help calm Mobius down).
EVERYONE'S CHOICE & MOBIUS LEAVING THE TVA
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Once Loki is gone, however, Mobius only stays at the TVA long enough to ensure it's changed for good and has appropriate leadership. What's striking is that, with the exception of Mobius, all of Loki's friends, given the choice, chose to stay at the TVA. This answers the question Loki posed with Sylvie: How many of them would choose to stay?
Verity, OB, and Casey all have purpose. Mobius's purpose has always been Loki. That purpose evolved into friendship once he stopped Loki's "reset" and uncovered Ravonna's corruption. Just as TVA = Friends = Mobius for Loki, for Mobius, the TVA = Loki. When Loki is gone, so is Mobius's purpose, his place of belonging, his home. Mobius loses everything, including (platonically or romantically) someone he deeply loves.

A time for everything
Summary
Loki was at peace with himself. He had sacrificed himself of his own free will to give everyone the chance to live as they chose.
As he watches over the timelines, he's grown accustomed to living with the void left by the loss of his friends and one person in particular.
But unexpected help may change the course of events.

POV of Loki reuniting with Mobius and the continuation of their story together.

"Let the time pass."
Mobius' voice echoed up to him, flying through the timelines, louder than all the other voices.
Loki smiled slightly, closed his eyes, swallowed his tears and exhaled deeply.
He had so much time now.
At the heart of the temporal flux, he felt all the lives that could continue to exist, free.
He had done what he had to do for all of them.
Never again would anyone be eliminated, wiped out, replaced because they hadn't followed the path that determined their destiny.
Never again would anyone's memory be erased because they had made the wrong choice, the wrong decision.
There would be no more fate. No more destiny. No more predestined choice.
"You could be whoever or whatever you wanted."
Now they could all be whoever or whatever they wanted.
Good or bad. Hero or villain.
Not because someone else decided.
Free to choose and live with the consequences of their choices.
That was what he had done for them and for himself.
And since it was about living with the consequences of your choices, Loki, alone with himself, couldn't ignore the consequences of his own choices. He hated people who lied to themselves, so he wouldn't lie to himself by ignoring the void left by the loss of his friends.
The loss of a friend.
The loss of a love.
The loss of Mobius.
But sacrifice meant nothing when there was nothing to lose.
Mobius.
His ultimate sacrifice.
So he could choose to live his life the way he wanted to.
"What if his choice was you?"
Loki shook his head, closing his eyes and choosing to ignore the thought. Searching deep inside of himself for peace, he slowly let it slip away.
He could not and would not go back.
Even though the feeling of loss seemed unbearable, he was truly at peace with the choice he'd made.
For the first time he'd made a choice in full consciousness. Not driven by outside forces, or by a desire for revenge, or for some unlikely glory, just a completely selfless choice because only he could make it.
He would endure it, however painful it might be...
For them.
For him.
"Let the time pass."
Mobius' voice echoed inside him, and he let time take its course.
The timelines unfolded as they would.
Secured by the tree, by him in the heart of the tree.
The passage of time didn't erase the absence, but the awareness of those lives unfolding, free under his care, was enough to remove the sting and turn it into a phantom pain.
Until one day he couldn't feel it anymore.
"Idiot."
A voice, clearer than all the others, louder, sharper, as if addressed to him, snapped him out of his meditation.
He searched the timeline for the source of the voice, but every time he thought he had reached it, it seemed to disappear like sand between his fingers. Like it  jumped from one time line to the next.
"In your new wisdom, there's still something you haven't learned."
There was no longer any doubt that the voice was really speaking to him. It had a familiar tone, but Loki couldn't remember who it belonged to.
He called out softly, "Who are you?"
He scanned the timeline, waiting for an answer, when suddenly the voice sounded again, clear and loud.
"Deep down, you know it."
Loki closed his eyes, trying to concentrate deep inside, and felt a familiar aura.
His own.
Opening his eyes, he called out, "Loki."
"Good answer," the voice replied as the elder Loki materialized in front of him.
"You!"
"Me."
"But how? Why?"
Loki was so astonished to see this variant that he could only ask, "What are you doing here?"
The elder Loki replied gently, "By doing what you have, you have freed us, so I'm here to offer you some of that freedom in return. You do not have to carry this burden alone."
Loki shook his head, "But how?"
The other Loki replied softly, "Same aura, same powers."
He gently grabbed one of the timelines, which glowed a faint green at his touch to illustrate his point.
Loki, overwhelmed as he began to understand the implications of what the older Loki was suggesting, asked, "How long?"
The other Loki replied quietly, "As long as you need, a lifetime, who knows? Nothing has to be final. There are so many others like us that we can teach, and so the burden will be carried by all of us."
He raised an eyebrow at Loki and added, "So? What are you saying?"
Loki didn't have to think long and nodded slowly.
He stood and held out his hands to the old Loki. The other Loki did the same and, pressing their palms together, they nodded together.
"Now."
Time flowed fluidly from Loki to the elder Loki, and when Loki was sure that the time flow had stabilized, he helped him to the throne.
He bowed to him and said softly, "Thank you, my friend."
The other Loki nodded gently and said with a half-smile on his lips, "Go. Go be with him."
Of course, the old bugger had seen through him.
Loki straightened up and headed for Mobius' timeline, but before he laid a hand on it, he turned to the other Loki and said in a determined voice, "I'll be back.
The other Loki nodded and replied with a smile, "I'm sure you will. I know you."
Loki chuckled softly, grabbed the timeline, and dove in with only one thought on his mind.
Mobius.
Mobius.
Mobius.
He opened his eyes and found himself on a beach, facing the sea.
But he was immediately oblivious to everything around him, for all he could see was the familiar figure standing in front of him with his back to him.
He quickly used magic to change his clothes into something more appropriate, and barefoot he approached in silence, restraining himself from running.
Suddenly, he heard Mobius' voice, almost a whisper in the night, "Loki..."
Loki replied softly, "I'm here."
"So old Loki is replacing you and keeping the time flow going?"
On Mobius' sofa, their hands still intertwined, Loki nodded. Mobius asked again, slightly hesitant, "And... it's permanent?"
Loki shook his head and replied in a slightly contrite tone, "No, I wouldn't be able to do that to him, and I don't want to let go of that responsibility. I hope you understand that, Mobius."
Mobius looked at him with an expression that was a mixture of pride and wonder and said quietly, "When I told you that you could be whatever or whoever you wanted to be, I wasn't thinking about this."
Loki laughed slightly and replied, "I know that, but that's part of it. You showed me that I could choose my own destiny. That's what I did."
Mobius lost his smile and asked, "Does that mean you're leaving again?"
Loki, sensing the vulnerability of the other man behind his question, asked softly in reply, "What do you want? Do you want me to stay?"
Mobius shook his head sharply and replied, "I have no right to ask you that! Your task is far more important, Loki."
Mobius didn't say more important than himself, but Loki heard it anyway.
He looked at him fondly and said softly, "Idiot. I know what I want. But I also want to know what you want, Mobius. Not what your conscience or your scruples tell you to say because you think that's what I want to hear. So I repeat, what do you want?"
Seeing that Mobius looked confused, he added, "You have the right to say what you want. Free will is about that too. It's not about looking at jet ski magazines and thinking they're great, but not allowing yourself to ride them because it's not appropriate. Tell me what you want, Mobius."
He watched Mobius open and close his mouth several times, seeing his inner struggle so clearly because he'd been through it himself not so long ago.
"I want my friends back. I don't wanna be alone."
It had torn his guts out to say those simple words, so yes, he understood exactly how Mobius felt right now. So he gently stroked the back of his hand with his thumb, "Come on, Mobius. Let go. Tell me. I promise I'll take it all."
Suddenly, Mobius took a deep breath and said in a weak voice, "I want you to stay."
Loki let out a sigh of relief and, squeezing Mobius' hand in his own, replied gently, "Well done. Now, do you want to hear what I want?"
Mobius nodded slowly, and Loki replied, still gently, "I want to stay too."
"But... the flow of time, the timelines..."
Loki replied calmly, "The elder Loki has offered me the opportunity to share this burden, he has generously told me to take all the time I need. I'll do it, but I should also come back sometime, I already have an idea of what we can do, so if you can accept some time apart, I..."
Mobius interrupted, "I can, if it means seeing you again."
Loki's smile widened as he replied, "Then I only have one question left."
"What's that?"
"May I stay here?"
Realizing the implication of Loki's question, Mobius didn't answer immediately and looked at their intertwined hands, then looked up and asked Loki, pointing at their hands, "What's that?"
Loki replied quietly, "What do you want it to be?"
Mobius breathed, "I don't know."
"That's all right. We don't have to decide now. We have something we didn't have before. We have time."
Mobius looked so lost as he replied, "Having so many choices, so many possibilities, it's both exhilarating and suffocating at the same time. I realize that I haven't stopped to think about what I really want since I've been here. I've never had to before. Now that I can, it's like I have a variant to catch, and I have so many leads I don't know which one to follow."
Loki put his hand on Mobius' shoulder and said softly, "Mobius, it's normal. Just give it time. You don't have to decide what you want to do or be right now."
Mobius sighed and replied, "To answer your question, of course you can stay here, I have a guest room and... well, unless you want to... huh... I mean..."
Loki chuckled softly and said, "The guest room is perfect. We know how to fight side by side, we know how to work side by side, now we just have to learn how to lo... live side by side."
He could tell from Mobius' slight gasp that his slip of the tongue had not gone unnoticed. He shouldn't be too hasty; he had lived through enough centenaries to know how he felt about Mobius, and while he had an idea of how Mobius felt about him, they had time to put it into words.
Now was not the time.
He slid his hand from Mobius' shoulder to his cheek and cupped the other man's face between his hands, slowly bringing his closer and asking softly, "May I...?"
Mobius breathed, "...yes."
That was all it took for Loki to close the remaining distance between them and gently press his lips to Mobius'.
The kiss was incredibly soft, almost chaste, and lingered, deepening their connection, their lips learning each other.
When they parted to catch their breath, Loki pressed another kiss to Mobius' forehead before wrapping his arms around him and pulling him against his chest.
He whispered into the gray hair, "I don't know any more than you do, you know? This is as new territory for me as it is for you."
Mobius wrapped his arms around him and replied softly against Loki's chest, "We'll just have to figure it out as we go along."
Loki hummed approvingly.
True, there was so much to figure out, but now they had the time to do it.
One choice at a time
One step at a time.
As long as they did it together.

Marvel should give Jonathan Majors the boot at this point and just make Ravonna a Kang variant. The set up for it is so perfect, in fact, that I almost wonder whether it was done intentionally in s2.
In order to learn to love other people, Loki had to first learn to love himself, and he did that through loving Sylvie, who he sees as a variant of himself. Now, if he had actually fallen in love with Sylvie, that would have been a problem (and I think that's why, on a meta level, their almost kiss created a nexus event) because it would have been tantamount to falling in love with himself and placing himself and his needs above others. He came close because he was learning how to be close for the first time, so he mistook his feelings for Sylvie for something else. But he course corrected in S2. And it was only when he stopped obsessing over Sylvie and started focusing on the issues impacting the people at the TVA, that he really started forming and refining those friendships he holds so dear (Victor, OB, Casey, B-15, and, of course, Mobius). That's why we see him choosing Mobius and the TVA over Sylvie time and time again in s2. And it's why Sylvie remains...perfectly fine when Loki doesn't focus on her (translation: Loki himself remains perfectly fine when he's not obsessing over his own inadequacies). Sylvie thrives, even, in a position where she has a clear function that benefits others around her (translation: Loki is at his best when he has a clear function that benefits a community around him).
(And lets not even go into what it means that Sylvie, Loki's sense of self, is in food service and Mobius is always the one eating. Let's not talk about that, because I'll start screaming).
Anyway, Loki and HWR's are similar characters, but where Loki learns to care about others more than himself, HWR never does. And what better way to illustrate that important difference between Loki and HWR than making HWR's one partner a variant of himself? Ravonna being a female variant of HWR gels with the narrative so well. Much like Loki and Sylvie, one can read HWR's internal motivations and feelings through Ravonna (she wants order but she also very much wants power - she feels like only one person can have choices and she wants that person to be her). Together, Ravonna and HWR achieve greatness, but it's at the expense of fitting in anywhere except with each other (and then, inevitably, not even there). Ravonna being a HWR variant solves the Majors issue in a way that makes sense and is compelling, I think.

•Papa vs Dada•
CG! Loki Odinson
CG! Mobius M. Mobius
Little! Y/N (He/Him)
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
When it came to Y/N, Loki and Mobius always try to "one up" each other in a way. Of course, it's all light hearted in the end. All the want is to make Y/N as happy as possible. But sometimes, it becomes into a competition. As a matter of fact, there was a very important competition happening.. and it was who can get Y/N to bed the fastest!
"Y/N, my love, it's time for bed."
Loki spoke out from the living room, getting no response from Y/N. He looked over to Mobius with a raised eyebrow, which Mobius just shrugged in response.
"Maybe the kid didn't hear you."
Loki rolled his eyes and chuckled,
"Yeah right. That little one can hear anything and everything." He sighed before calling out for Y/N again, "Baby! It's time for bed!"
...again, there was no response. Mobius and Loki shared a look with each other, smirks forming on each of their faces.
"Bet I can get him to bed the fastest."
Mobius chuckled, Loki smiled and just shook his head. "Fine. You're on." He stood up and started rushing to Y/N's room while Mobius went into the kitchen to make Y/N a bottle of milk.
Once in Y/N's room, he was found coloring in a coloring book. Loki sighed and sat down next to him, "My love, I called out for you twice." Loki spoke somewhat sternly, so Y/N knew he was being serious. But Y/N's eyes were still glued to the coloring book.
"Sorry dada."
He mumbled, "Hafta finish coloring."
Loki frowned and picked Y/N up, a stern look on his face so Y/N knew he meant business.
"You can finish coloring in the morning, it's time to rest your eyes now, sweet one."
Y/N whined, but nodded. He knew deep down that it was pointless to fight with Loki, especially during bedtime.
"Fine.. I will-"
"Wait! You don't want Dada to put you to bed, do you?"
Mobius walked in with a bottle full of warm milk, "Cmon, why don't you come with Papa? We can watch the cartoons you like."
Loki rolled his eyes and glared at Mobius with a glare, "That's cheating."
He grumbled, causing Mobius to just laugh. Even Y/N giggled along to, he just didn't know what was really going on.
"You can't just tell him to come over to you,"
Loki picked Y/N up and kissed his cheek. "You have to let Y/N pick. So my darling, who do you want to put you to bed?"
He quickly leaned in close to Y/N's ear, "If you choose me I'll sneak you three cookies for breakfast."
Mobius groaned and walked towards the two with his arms crossed,
"Hey! How come you get to cheat but I don't? What sense does that make?"
Y/N watched as the two went back and forth arguing about who needed to put Y/N to bed. He just kept eyeing them for awhile, until eventually, he had an idea.
"I know who I wanna go to bed with."
He babbled, breaking the argument between Mobius and Loki almost instantly.
"Oh? Really? Then who, my love?"
Loki asked, looking down at Y/N with a hopeful smile. Y/N returned that smile and giggled, "Wanna go to sleep with dada and papa! Like sleepover!"
Y/N wiggled excitedly in Loki's arms,
"Please dada and papa! Wanna sleep together!"
Loki and Mobius shared a look with each other for a moment, but then smiled. It made them feel happy deep down that Y/N didn't pick just one person.. he was just the sweetest little there was.
"I don't see why not."
Loki smiled, "Papa? What about you?"
Mobius chuckled and kissed Y/N's cheek,
"You know I'm down. Cmon, it's getting late."
With that, Loki laid Y/N down on the bed and started to tuck him in. Mobius meanwhile helped Y/N drink some of his bottle while caressing his hair. Eventually the two got in the bed with Y/N, just watching him fall asleep and even getting tired themselves.
"Goodnight, darling."
"Sweet dreams, kiddo."

Did I make you proud?
Those words echoed in Loki's ears when he was sitting inside the tree of life. If he couldn't be something great, Loki created the most powerful connection between the worlds. Between cosmos and multiverses, his powers fueled through the threads of time.
Did I make you proud? I could have done if father, for you, for all of us.
There is a time for everything and for all things.
Through the threads of time and space, he could see the destruction of Asgard. He closed his eyes going right there, to that moment and rebuilding the city with golden towers, Asgard. His home. How much he hated that place, despite that he missed it,the emotions he felt in that realm where he was born and he rebuilt it with his mind. He returned to that moment just to see his his mother. Frigga the mother of all, the Queen of Asgard. He returned back to that time when she used to teach him mystical arts, his magic. If he knew everything he knows today, he should thank her.
“Did I make you proud?” He said. Loki recalled that back at that time he said it in a bitter way, but now he sounded more like he was seeking approval.
“You have always made me proud, my son. I knew there was a heart inside of you.” Frigga said hugging his son. Loki hugged her back, holding her close, crying in that hug. He didn't want to lose her again, he had missed her.
“Mother, there are a lot of things I need to tell you.” He whispered, between lo sobs.
“You don't need to tell me anything, my son. I know. I already know everything.”
He remembered when he had so much rage and in that moment, Loki told Frigga that she wasn't his mother, that Odin wasn't his father. There was an overwhelming feeling blooming inside of him. You'll lose her, you'll lose her.
Not this time, not this time. Because there was a glorious purpose for him to fulfill. For him. You are always so perceptive about everyone but yourself.
When he released Frigga from the embrace all Asgard was as it remembered.
Sometimes you just choose your burden. Sometimes the best you can so is to choose what is the best choice, but that doesn't mean it will be easy. Road will be full of obstacles but even from the hardest of the choices, even thorns can give birth to life, something amazing can be born that gives life to everything.
Loki opened his eyes again, watching the flow of time before his eyes even going to his old friend Mobius. Let time pass...Maybe some day, they will meet again.

Oh My God What Theory # Is This, I Don't Care
Spoilers for Loki and Loki: Agent of Asgard okay let's crack into it because it's late when I'm writing this and my brain is breaking.
Theory: Loki the series has been an adaptation of Loki: Agent of Asgard this whole time.
I've been complaining about this since season one, namely because Ewing does an amazing job with genderfluid Loki, and the Loki writers, well, you know. But actually story-wise, I think they actually did do their research. Let's break this down.
In the book, Loki takes on a job with the All-Mother to work for Asgard to do missions in exchange for expunging past sins.
In the show, to prevent himself from getting pruned, he takes on a job to work for the TVA to help with their missions.
In the book, he inadvertently hunts down and captures a future version of himself. In the show, he's been hired on specifically to help hunt down and capture an alternate version of himself.
Both selves (unwittingly) serve to provide him with the tools he needs to become a better version of himself and reach his true potential, outside of what the narrative (Asgard/Marvel comics and the TVA/He Who Remans/MCU) says he needs to be.
An unlikely ally (Verity in the comics, Mobius in the show) gives him the compassion and trust that he needs to believe in himself and his capacity for becoming whoever he wants to be.
Loki transitions into the void in the book in flames. In the show, he's pruned.
In the void, he meets his others: Kid Loki and Old Loki (not the future Old Loki, but the Loki he was) and a magpie. In the show, he also meets his others in the void: Kid Loki and Classic Loki (both of whom are similar in name and/or appearance to their counterparts in the comic scene), among others (not a magpie but a crocodile).
The show differs here, taking Loki out of the void but not yet concluding his arc of ego death. Because Loki in the show is still learning to believe in himself, to identify what he cares about, to become a hero and what that means. He's still too wrapped up in Sylvie--in himself--and also in being incapable of separating the fact that she is his variant but that she is also her own person with her own opinions and feelings and needs that differ from his. She wants to be free of the TVA's influence, but she also doesn't really want anything to do with him. Loki is still, at this point, at the equivalent in his personal growth to Kid Loki in Journey into Mystery, with the magpie version of himself, Ikol, as his companion (Kid Loki doesn't always listen to his advice, but he chooses to keep him around for guidance and company anyway). MCU Loki is fascinated by Sylvie, to put it kindly, and wants to keep her close to him as he figures out what she means to him and for his personal development. So ego death does not end when he leaves the void in the show, as it does in the comic.
Because in ego death, this happens:
Tumblr media
Loki is focusing on his reasons to grow and change, rather than remain in the void or possibly actually die, or even say fuck it all, and become the person Old Loki (pretends he) wants him to become. His brother, his friend (Verity), and his capacity for change, his determination for change.
This feels very much like his conversation with Sylvie in episode five, and his ultimate realization at the end of the episode. "I want my friends back. I don't want to be alone." And even what he tells Don/Mobius about their relationship: "You saw something in me that I couldn't see in myself." They are his why, his reasons to finally finish the cycle of ego death and become the person he is meant to be, the person so many people have been speculating he's moving towards in this season's arc: The God of Stories.
Which is who they are in the comic when they emerge from the chrysalis of ego death and return to reality (and Verity).
Tumblr media
In addition to grappling with his why and discovering it's a who (which I initially thought was himself, but in recalling that panel from AoA when he's in the void, I think it refers to himself AND those he cares about), in addition to finally admitting to himself and out loud that he cares about his friends and is afraid of being alone (WHICH LOKI BASICALLY ALSO SAYS IN THE COMIC)
Tumblr media
We come to discover that the original ally, the original first friend, the one who in the source material gives Loki the courage and confidence to undergo ego death at last (the magpie has been heralding this event's approach throughout the comic), has been with him from the very start of his journey in the show as well.
We discover that B-15's true name is VERITY WILLIS.
In the comic, after he returns from ego death, he saves Verity by learning and collecting her STORY. In episode 5, he collects each of his friends and discovers each of their life stories on the timeline. (I worry this similarity to the comics may not yet be concluded in the show, but I'll get to that later.)
So there is something Loki does after ego death in the comics, in addition to being christened God of Stories
Tumblr media
This is not the first time she has physically shifted gender in this comic, nor is it the first time she explains that this shape is also her. This does, however, mark a change in how characters in Ewing comics refer to Loki. In Defenders Beyond and The Immortal Thor (and I think Loki: The Liar? But that isn't a Ewing comic), Loki shifts to using they/them pronouns instead of he/him pronouns. This is very very subtle, and we have been badly burned by Marvel lying about canonizing Loki's genderfluidity in the MCU just last season. However,
Tumblr media
this moment ultimately serves as a coming-out moment to Verity, since it's the first time she sees Loki presenting as a gender other than a man. So explicitly in the text, it is possible that we will get a similar moment in the finale or the next time we see Loki after the episode (either in a potential season 3 or another movie/series), since so much has to happen in this episode to wrap up the season/series.
The comic concludes with Loki rescuing Verity and their family by collecting their stories and stepping outside of the narrative until the world restarts again. I'm afraid Loki will not be able to save the multiverse before the end of the episode, and the only way forward will be to collect the life stories of his friends in order to save them and walk out of the narrative. Alternatively, this may not happen until a potential season 3. The reason I think this is because in the comic, they save their loved ones from an incursion. At the end of Doctor Strange 2, we watched the beginning of the incursion. We haven't heard anything about it since. The movies in the phase may need to establish this situation before Loki can do anything about it, and he's going to need to figure out how to save his friends and literally walk out of reality. (Please can we get Cloud in the MCU in a couple phases??? That's the natural progression of things, if we ignore everything that happens to Loki's character between AoA and DB, and frankly, we should.)
And finally, as I've been demanding since before season two aired, upon realizing that this show has been AoA Loki's arc all along, merely reimagined to fit the moment in the MCU's arc we are at right now, I am once again asking Marvel
WHERE IS THE COAT GIVE ME THE COAT IF I DON'T SEE THE COAT ON THURSDAY I AM GOING TO RIOT THIS WAS ALL FOR THE COAT GIVE ME THE FUCKING COAT YOU COWARDS

Swifties!! You know coney island (feat. The National) right?
Well, hear me out.
Spoilers for Loki season 2 ahead!!!
For short, it's so Lokius (or just Loki's fate) after the end of season 2 it hurts.
And for long...
"Break my soul into two looking for you/ But you're right here".
Loki is looking over his friends...especially over Mobius, since we heard his voice echo at the end of time and making Loki manage a heartbreaking smile of acceptance. They're both looking for each other, because they're now separated, but they're RIGHT HERE at the same time.
"If I can't relate to you anymore, then who am I related to?"
The clear discrepance of Mobius's life at the TVA is given by him meeting Loki. After he leaves, there's no point for M to stay there anymore. So he leaves, because who is he related to now?
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
"And if this is the long haul how did we get here so soon"
OUUUCH! The long haul=a journey that takes a lot of time and effort. Isn't that what happened in S2E6, with Loki trying again and again to fix the Loom and save everyone? Oh yes it is! But it still seemed too soon when he had to leave, and to protect everyone with the cost of remaining alone.
"I'm sitting on a bench in Coney Island, wondering 'where did my baby go' "
Mobius, at the end of the season, standing alone, letting time pass. He wasn't exactly on a bench in Coney Island, but I swear that's what he was wondering.
Tumblr media
Sorry for not making you my centerfold
So, in the song, this apology is meant for something that is already over, a cause-effect situation.
But in my perspective, it can also be a resolution. Because Loki DID make the people she cared about the centerfold. And not only them, but those people, those lives HWR didn't care about. Now, they're the top page of the story Loki chose to rewrite and the burden he chose to bear. Until that moment, it didn't work out, no matter how hard he tried. But then the realisation hits in, after the conversation with Mobius in the time theatre. And the hardest, impossible choice is made.
Over and over
Lost again with no surprises
Dissapointments close your eyes
And it gets colder and colder
As the sun goes down"
The repetition both "over" and "colder" in the chorus feel like a call back to the finale's events. How, over and over, for centuries and only he knows how many tries, Loki tries to rewrite the story. To save his friends, yes, but also the existence of the Multiverse.
And that didn't work. Now, that the sun doesn't shine (BUT IT WILL. IT HAS TO.) it gets colder and colder. It's very important to note that the sun did shine on Mobius and Sylvie...but Loki wasn't there.
Tumblr media
"Do you miss the rogue who coaxed you into paradise and left you there?"
First, some synonyms, for better understanding (evermore will be evermore)
rogue=a dishonest person, a villain; coaxed= persuaded into doing something
This is the exact opposite of where we see Loki now. He's a hero. He's THE hero!! But the beautiful thing about this is how he evolved, how their character has one of, if not even the biggest, arcs in the MCU. The part I want to point out in this lyric is the first one, the question: Do you miss? Does she, without ever wanting to change anything, miss that rogue, the self that got her here? The one in Ragnarok, who was finally working things out with Thor? And the "left" too! Because he's here now, but there's...no one left next to him.
OK HERE IS MY FAVOURITE ONE
"Cause we were like the mall before the internet it was the one place to be
THE MISCHIEF, the gift-wrapped suburban dreams"
The mall before the internet? Like this disconnected place where you lose the notion of time? Like the TVA, with Loki and Mobius together, working on that TemPad, for example. It is the one place to be for them, and when together, they both try to protect it.
The mischieffff. Loki's betrayal, choosing to leave with Sylvie when Mobius trusted him in this mission. Him being the literal God of Mischief. The "Come on, you're the God of Mischief" from Mobius in s2e2. And this is not even the only mischief regarding them, it's the whole TVA in season 1 and how all of its workers were being lied to.
The gift wrap as an imaginery for them traveling through timelines to find Sylvie, then Ravonna and Miss Minutes. When this is sweet at first (or sticky as cracker jack hehe) but it turns out to be more. To be difficult. And overall, the whole theme of the song remisces their story and its beautiful, irregular flow.
"Were you waiting at our old spot/ In the tree line, by the gold clock/ Did I leave you hanging every single day?"
Tumblr media
Our old spot.
Tumblr media
In the tree line, by the gold clock.
What a charming way to hear Loki's choice to stay, and the place that happened, be described. Also, the timelines look like a tree. The gold clock, also representative for the tva.
PLUS Loki's throne at the end of time is literally the tree of life (Yggradsil).
"And when I walked up to the podium I think that I forgot to say your name"
Because before Loki left, and walked up to the "podium" down to the loom, he didn't say goodbye. We got that in season 1. Not now.
"When the sun goes down / The sight that flashed before me was your face"
The sun going down is at a present time. It's still there, but it will be gone soon.
Yet the flash is in the past : it was. For the God of Stories, time is infinite, but that one "let time pass" from Mobius is SO important it got to Loki and made them smile. HE FUCKING SMILED. (alright maybe smile is not the word but if I choose to make myself believe that for my own comfort then so be it)
Alright, that's kinda it. I'll never listen to this song the same way <3

The Burden of Glorious Purpose
@/joobobby on ao3!
Spoiler warning: End of Loki season 2.
Loki sits at the end of time and watches those he loves.
849 words
---
(“All this… because Loki desires a throne.”)
He had wanted it, it is true. He had wanted it with every fibre of his being. He had wanted it, had needed it in the way one needs air. Desperate, lacking … something.
He had desired it when his father had held his hand in his own and promised that one of his sons would soon become King.
Golden, shining, brilliant. Gloom, shadow, lacking. Hopeful. Innocent.
He had wanted it when he fought the Mighty God of Thunder, the golden, brilliant brother. He had wanted it when he had given his all, had torn his heart out… and all his father had to say was “no”.
He had needed it with a burning rage and itching desperation when he descended upon the people of Earth like a plague; death reincarnated.
It was his birthright.
(“Your birthright was to die!”)
(“I could have done it, Father! For you! For all of us!”
“No, Loki. No.”)
He had wanted it, had needed it in the way one needs air. Desperate, lacking … something. Lacking what? What was his birthright?
The big, gaping hole in his heart had always been a heavy weight to carry. To live with it was to feel it. Better to cram a throne there than to admit the loneliness to himself. Better to create mischief and cause chaos around Asgard than to feel the shattering sadness of not feeling enough, not being enough. Better to live as the God of Mischief and the attention-seeking child than to plead for his father to see him.
“I crave attention… And I’m scared of being alone”.
It was always better to obsess over the idea, the illusion, of external prowess and power than to admit what he really craved… For what he, the God of Mischief, had always needed, was love.
“Love is a dagger. It’s a weapon to be wielded far away or up close. You can see yourself in it. It’s beautiful... until it makes you bleed. But ultimately, when you reach for it... it isn’t real.”
Love wasn’t a dagger. Wasn’t a weapon to be wielded, or something that was destined to make one bleed. Love was beautiful and kind, selfless. It was forgiveness and acceptance. It was seeing the flaws in others and choosing to love them anyway.
Love wasn’t a dagger and trust wasn’t for dogs.
Loki didn’t always know this. The carefully constructed image of the all-powerful and arrogant God was all he ever could know… But, he knew now.
He had never wanted a throne. He had only ever wanted to be seen and loved, to be okay.
“I never wanted the throne… I just want you to be okay.”
But, as he sat on his lonely throne at the end of time, with a heavy crown atop his head, all he could do was smile. For a man enslaved to time itself, a man he loved, once told him that he could be anything he wanted to be. Even someone good.
“I know what I want. I know what kind of god I need to be...for you. For all of us.”
He did this for Mobius, who had chosen to care for him when he thought he was alone and had no one. He did this for his brother, the brother he loved wholeheartedly and thought the world of. He did this for Sylvie, who just needed to be okay and live a life she was proud of. He did this for Father, for Mother (“I love you my sons”).
For Love wasn’t a dagger. Wasn’t a weapon to be wielded, or something that was destined to make one bleed. Love was beautiful and kind, selfless.
So, as he sat on his lonely throne at the end of time, with a heavy crown atop his head, all he could do was smile.
Loki Odinson sat and smiled as he saw Sylvie, serving customers their burgers with a contented look on her face.
The God of Stories sat and smiled, with tears in his eyes, as he saw the man he loved; and heard the Nowhere Man’s voice say, “I might just wait here for a little bit. Let time pass.”
‘I am here, Mobius. I wish you a lifetime of key lime pies, jet skis, and happy memories. Thank you, Mobius.’
He sat and smiled as he saw his brother giving Love a piggyback ride. As the God of Thunder told the little girl about the God of Mischief and the adventures they went on together.
‘I will see to it that the sun will always shine on you, brother. I assure you. I am glad I died with you knowing the full extent of my love for you.’
He was alone, at the end of time, but he now knew that he was never destined to be alone. It was the ultimate and selfless sacrifice; one he chose to make for them.
‘I am Loki Odinson of Asgard, God of Mischief and Stories, and I am burdened with glorious purpose.’
Loki sat and smiled.

For the second prompt @insert-witty-user-name-here requested for the kiss prompts (“…on a falling tear”) I loved both ideas so much (couldn’t turn down some softness and hurt/comfort) that I did both rather than choosing! Hope you enjoy!
——
(Let’s pretend Mobius knew Loki would be staying behind with Sylvie, rather than being surprised by it, for the ✨drama✨)
——
In any other circumstance, Mobius would be overjoyed with the current situation.
He’s surrounded by more Lokis than he’s ever been around at once, one being the variant he’s been trying to catch (though who he now realizes was right to be running), and another being the one he’s grown close with recently. Also, the alligator, of course—he’s just adorable.
It’s a little mind-melting, to be sure, but it’s somehow not the most pressing issue.
He’d kept it together in front of the new crew of Lokis, but his mind has been screaming at him for (what passes for) hours by now. His life was a lie. All of it, from his very creation, to his existence and the existence of a life that he was plucked from, to his friendship with Ravonna.
And now, he’s preparing himself to bid Loki and Sylvie and the new Loki crew goodbye and return to the TVA to dismantle it.
He leans up against the outside of the pizza car, a decent distance from the little shack but not so far it is out of sight or out of reach. He scrubs his hands across his face, feeling how stubble is already poking out from his cheeks due to not shaving this morning– he’d been called while still in bed to be shown that they’d rediscovered Loki and Sylvie.
He tries to take deep breaths in and out, the technique that Ravonna of all people taught him once to relax when in the field, but he finds the breaths out to be rather shaky.
“Mobius.”
Mobius glances over the car and sees Loki on the other side, standing a bit awkwardly, which is rare for him, usually the picture of confidence (whether feigned or real.) His hands are shoved deep in the pockets of his worn TVA-issued pants, and he dips his head against the gusts of wind that pop up at random.
“Hey, Loki,” Mobius manages a smile, though it feels mostly fake even to him, so he’s not sure why he expects it to fool his god of lies.
Loki comes around to his side of the car, and sidles up next to Mobius until their shoulders are pressed together. Mobius revels in the comfort it instantly provides. He’s always been a fairly tactile person but Loki’s ability to so smoothly put him at ease is new but not unwelcome.
“You okay?” Loki whispers, bumping their touching shoulders slightly.
“Just… shaken, I guess. With all the revelations,” Mobius murmurs, tilting his head to the sky. “Guess that’s my karma for forcing you and so many others to watch your own reels and causing existential crises,” Mobius chuckles humorlessly.
“Mobius, no. You were a victim of the TVA, you didn’t deserve any of this even if you did it to others.”
“Wow, you’re actually against some clear-cut vengeance? You’ve had a turn around, yeah?” This time the laugh Mobius lets out is soft and at least slightly more genuine.
“Well, I was recently told I could be anyone, even someone good. Thought I’d give that a try.”
Mobius smiles softly, before dropping his eyes to meet Loki’s careful gaze. Loki is searching Mobius’ expression, clearly trying to read him and decide his next actions.
Mobius glances away from Loki only because he can’t stand to see such soft and confused yet genuine care. Mobius knows the moments of Loki showing his true gentleness that isn’t hidden behind a trick or evasion is rare, and while he’s grateful to be a recipient, he doesn’t have the strength to accept it right now.
Loki has become such a constant for him recently, turning his entire life on its axis, not just with revealing the truth but just by challenging him and his approaches and ideas, being a clever and surprisingly reliable ally.
And Loki was supposed to be pruned from the start, he wasn’t supposed to help this long or this much, and they definitely weren’t supposed to get so close, but now Mobius can’t imagine taking on the next challenge alone.
He takes in another breath and winces when it hitches.
“Mobius,” Loki swallows heavily beside him, and Loki is left to nudge even closer to him, the insistent press of his body asking ‘how can I help?’
“How’d you deal with the realizations about your life not being what you thought?” Mobius replies quietly.
Loki hums. “Well, I had a good man by my side that helped me out, showed me that the past and the predetermined path isn’t all there is…”
Mobius looks back at Loki and Loki has a twitch of a smile on his lips but is otherwise holding a steady, careful gaze.
“Are you scared?” Mobius asks, almost changing the subject but not entirely.
“I’m petrified,” Loki admits with a huff and a dry laugh, shaking his head softly.
“Guess I don’t have too feel bad admitting I am too, then,” Mobius whispers, and that’s the crack in the dam. He feels the tears that burned behind his eyes spilling out.
Loki makes a concerned noise beside him and moves himself so he’s planted in front of Mobius instead of pressed into his side.
“Mobius…” Loki murmurs, and Mobius feels Loki take hold of his hand.
“Sorry, I’m fine, I’m okay,” Mobius says hurriedly, but the hoarseness of his voice betrays him. He scrubs haphazardly at the tears and shakes his head.
Mobius isn’t quite sure how he would have expected Loki to react to his distress (he knows a past Loki may have conjured some trick to make him laugh or make a worse situation so the original problem didn’t seem so pressing, or simply ignore the problem all together, unable to deal with it), but he most definitely isn’t expecting Loki to cup his cheek with one solid, broad hand and his press an excruciatingly gentle kiss to his cheek, his lips mingling with the salty tears.
Loki pulls back slowly, but just enough that their noses brush. Mobius feels frozen in place, his stomach in knots.
Loki’s lips remain parted, his eyes questioning. Mobius, despite everything, nods softly.
That’s all Loki needs, he closes the short distance and kisses Mobius fully, the hand on his cheek slipping back to cradle his head. Mobius hums in overwhelmed surprise, and Loki responds by pushing into the kiss, nipping at Mobius’ lip just slightly before pulling back for a breath. They stand there with their faces inches apart, breathing in tandem. The tears have stopped flowing, but the tracks remain. Loki wipes them away with his thumb.
“You… we, ah,” Mobius, for the first time in a long while, feels speechless.
“Mm-hmm,” Loki agrees, still a bit breathless (Mobius isn’t sure if it’s from the kissing, nerves, or both.) Then, with a bit more of a serious spark in his eyes, says, “you’re going to find me when we’re all done saving the multiverse, right?”
Mobius manages a tight smile and nod, nervous yet real. “Always.”

I guess every episode of Loki is fodder for debating who the title character ought to smash with, but "Breaking Brad" feels like a textbook case, so let's talk about it...
I've been anticipating this episode for the big reunion of Loki and Sylvie, and it didn't disappoint. There's just a ton of great tension when Loki walks up to the counter and clearly has no idea what to say or where to begin. He's been worried sick about her since they last parted ways, and now that he's found her he doesn't know how to make things right with her, and she's not going to make it easy for him. Whatever Sylvie's feelings are for Loki, she's going to keep them closely guarded, to avoid getting hurt again, even if it dooms all of existence. And yet...she follows him through the Time Door. But then...she refuses to stay. It's going to be like this for a while, if not the whole season.
At the same time, this episode is chock-full of good scenes between Loki and Mobius. They support each other, and they open up to one another. (Mobius is clearly still hiding something, but there's no doubt they'll talk it over later.) Everybody can see Loki has a weakness for Sylvie, but only Mobius understands it, and sticks up for his buddy. Loki is crushed as Sylvie walks out before he can finish saying "it's harder to stay"...but he stays, and gives Mobius a reassuring pat on the shoulder. They make a great team, and their bond just gets stronger with each episode.
This more or less reflects the major talking points in the Sylki vs. Lokius ship war. A recurring theme I see from the Lokius camp is that Loki simply has better chemistry with Mobius than Sylvie, but that depends on what sort of chemistry you prefer. Loki and Mobius certainly have an easier time chilling together in the break room, or coming up with a cool plan, but that's partly because Loki isn't desperately preoccupied with figuring out if Mobius is in love with him. Whereas Loki and Sylvie's chemistry is under intense pressure because both of them strongly feel things for one another they refuse to talk about. You could get a good romance out of either scenario, but for better or worse the Loki/Sylvie mutual pining/denial of feelings story is already happening, and the Loki/Mobius slow burn/feelings realization story still exists only in potentia.
More and more I get the feeling the show is going to force Loki to choose between Mobius and Sylvie. Not choose which one to fuck, necessarily. But if Loki really wants to save the TVA and prop them up against He Who Remains, he's probably going to have to keep passing up opportunities to be with Sylvie, and keep walking back to Mobius. But if it the endgame was Lokius, there wouldn't be much tension in that choice--Loki just lets Sylvie bum around the McDonald's parking lot, end of story. The plot complication for the rest of the season is how he can help the TVA and win Sylvie back. And I really don't get the feeling he's going to get there by realizing he's really been in love with Mobius all along.

Loki S2E6:
LOOK AT THE EPISODE NAME. SOMETHING'S GOING DOWN TODAY. (Also, this is the same name of S1E1).
Holy shit, it's an hour long.
The Marvel Studios logo is going backwards in time 👀
Time to watch Victor die again.
The first of many times.
Rip.
TIME LOOP!
Miss Minutes 🤣
Oh, well, that one was gruesome. Nice close-up of poor Victor's skull.
Loki: speedrunning the plan Sylvie: 🤨
He's actually gonna make OB teach him everything to make the next loops faster.
WAIT, REALLY. I did not expect the "centuries later" timecard, omg.
"Do not set the Multiplier down, or it will roll off the gangway." I wonder how many times that happened.
MOBIUS JUST CURSED 👀
There's the microphone shot.
HE'S ACTUALLY DOING IT. COME ON, VICTOR, YOU CAN DO THIS.
Suit integrity's failing....
HE DID IT.
Victor ain't gonna make it. I have never been so glad to be wrong.
It feels too good to be true. Something's gonna happen.
"The Loom is overloading again." Noooooooooooo 😭
"You can't scale for infinite. It's like trying to divide by zero." He's not even wrong. Damn, they were so close.
"It's almost as if as soon as the timelines started branching, this was doomed to happen." Yeah, and who helped create that problem, hmm?
YEAH, OKAY, THAT MAKES SENSE. BACK TO THE BEGINNING. HELLO, S1 FINALE.
Do it right this time, Loki.
Now he has to fight Sylvie a few dozen times, brilliant.
My heart is breaking all over again.
"If you want to stop me, you'll have to kill me." DUDE, IF IT ACTUALLY COMES DOWN TO THAT, I WILL LOSE MY MIND.
"So, how many times have you been at this?" Lmaooo, He Who Remains might be a time tyrant, but he is hilarious af. And scarily smart.
Oh. He froze time. Neat.
A COUPLE THOUSAND? This man is having way too much fun. Leave Loki alone.
He would totally mock his variant, oof. Be nice to Victor.
I can't decide if he's encouraging Loki or trying to keep him from stopping the Loom's overloading. Or if he just hates Sylvie that much.
OH, HELLO, S1E1.
Loki realizing that past Mobius doesn't know the Timekeepers were fake 😂
He's pretty much just telling him to kill Sylvie, omg. But also, that eight-year-old story is heartbreaking. Holy fuck, it was Renslayer.
"You just choose your burden." Ouch.
'Goodbyes' plays/Mobius spagettifies NO. I WISH I DIDN'T MEMORIZE THE NAME OF THIS TRACK FROM THE S1 ALBUM. Thank god for the timeslipping.
"I'm not giving you my blessing, if that's what you're waiting for." We'd never want you to, Sylvie. We'd never want you to. That might make it hurt even more.
Alright, Loki, what's the plan. Are we killing Sylvie and breaking everyone's hearts, or are we just letting them go back to the timelines as who they were meant to be?
Whoa, this guy's going out there himself. Without gear.
"I know what kind of god I need to be...for you. For all of us." 😭
Ooooh, now that's an iconic look. Definitely looks more like it's from the comics, that's for sure.
Oh, shit, there goes the fucking Loom. Is that undoable?
Ladies and gentlemen, may I present Loki, the God of Stories.
Also, I can't not mention the music. It's beautiful.
Well, there's one way to get back to the end of time.
HIS CAPE IS MADE OUT OF TIMELINES. HOLY SHIT.
sits down in the pristine golden throne in a crumbling castle
YGGDRASIL.
Oh god, they brought Miss Minutes back.
And, yay, OB's out of the shadows at last!
Oooh, Quantumania Kang reference.
"You're leaving." I don't know if I should be happy for him or fucking devastated. Mobius, don't go 😭 (all the same, he's earned it. and he's got good reason).
B-15 literally is the perfect person to run the TVA, though. They've got that right.
New TVA guidebooks 👀
A Victor Timely that got to live out life as he was meant to. ❤
Ravonna in the Void (good riddance)
GET HER, ALIOTH.
Mobius watching Don and his sons 😭
Oh, what's up, Sylvie
"It's the best house on the block." He's totally biased. But he should be allowed to be.
I love how supportive Sylvie is of him going back. She shouldn't have criticized him for it, but she's damn proud of him for having the courage to actually do it.
Is Loki just. Going to sit on that throne for all of eternity? That is so depressing. He sacrificed his life in a completely different way- he didn't die for the timelines, he decided to live for them, to literally be the one thing that lets them all flow. He really is the God of Stories.
Something tells me there won't be a season three..

Loki and Sylvie try not to wake Mobius.
Sylvie having spent almost all her life on the run knew how to hide and keep quiet.  What she didn’t know was how to do that while in bed with two other people and a wretched cold.  She cursed herself once again for choosing the side of the bed against the wall of the room they’d rented.  Sure it allowed her to watch the door, but it also didn’t leave her a way to get out of bed unnoticed.
“Snf!”
And it left the tissues on the nightstand away from her. Not that she dared to blow her nose it would wake Loki and Mobius for sure.  Although doing nothing was only making it run more and therefore itch and that would only make her…
“Hih!”
Dammit!
She scrubbed hard at her nose in frustration, only further chapping the skin, but despite her efforts the sneeze built steadily.
“Iihh-iheh...”
She cursed silently again as there was shifting at her side.
“Sylvie?” Loki asked, his voice hoarse from more than sleep.
“L-Loki, I Snf! I-ihhh-I can’t.”
“It’s all right,” he whispered.
As if it was the most natural thing in the multiverse he pulled her in close allowing her to muffle them against his chest.
“ihh’TCSHhh! ISHHh! ETICHSHhh!”
He gave no response to her congested “thank you” just rubbed his fingers lightly down her back.  So they remained close enough that she felt it when his own breath hitched and pressed her finger up hard under his nose.
“Snf! S-sorry I-hehh… ehhh…”
It was clear he too was trying to make sure at least Mobius could sleep, but when it became obvious he also couldn’t hold back she pinched his nose tightly shut.
“Th-thag you huh’IGNCTH! Heh’XXGTChhu!”
They said nothing more even though their actions had left both them stuffy and still itchy.
“You know the point of going to bed early was for you two to rest not suffer in silence,” Mobius declared. as the last of their trio sat up and turned on the lamp.
“And bless you both too by the way,” he said, passing them the tissue box.
“Thank you,” Loki said softly, allowing Sylvie to grab a handful first before taking some himself.
“Ihh’ICHShh! ITICSHu! huh-huh’ISSCHu!”
As Sylvie blew her nose Loki noticed the way Mobius seemed to shift oddly on the bed, as if he was trying to move away from them.
“If we’re disturbing you, Mobius, we can get another room.”
“What? No, of course not.  You two are sick.  I’m fine.”
Loki wished to probe further, but was cut off by his nose’s own tickling vexation.
“Huh…ehh-ehhh’AERSHUHhh!”
Being bent over double from the force of the sneeze Loki missed how Mobius grimaced and shifted back at it, but Sylvie didn’t.
“It’s that, Mobius!  They way you’re acting like we’re both too disgusting to be around!”
“No, no it’s not you, Sylvie, or you Loki I promise it’s…it’s me.  I…I don’t think either of you are disgusting like this in fact I like it,” he confessed, his face flushed in embarrassment.
For moment they were speechless.
“You…enjoy us like this?” Sylvie asked, anger slipping away and leaving confusion in its wake.
“No, no I don’t mean that you two are miserable I just mean…aspects I guess.“ He took a deep breath, looking like he’d rather be sent back to the Void than talk about this. “It’s, it’s the sneezing really I, I don’t know why I like it I just do all right?!”
“You like it when we sneeze?” Loki asked, more amused than anything.  No one on Asgard had thought as such.  To find someone who did enjoy this loud uncontrolled part of himself was oddly flattering.
Mobius said nothing just shoved the covers back and made to leave.
“Oh no, you don’t!”  Sylvie said, grabbing his wrist and pulling him back on the bed. “You don’t get to leave after you’ve just been letting both of us stew here in the dark thinking we were disturbing you.”
Loki nodded in agreement and they both shifted positions to have Mobius in the middle with them pressed in tightly to each side.  So he could easily feel when either of them needed to sneeze again.  That intrigued Loki as it was another way he and Sylvie diverged.  Her sneezes came more quickly in rapid fits while his took longer to come and were heavy in release.  He wondered if Mobius had a preference about such things and if he did…
“You know, Mobius, you will certainly be able to choose a favourite variant after this.”
Mobius just shoved himself further into his pillow in embarrassment.  He was so going to regret those words.

A Face In The Crowd, Chapter 4
Loki may be sedated, but his slumber was hardly peaceful, as evidenced by the constant mumbling and jerking of his limbs. Vincent had half a mind to strap his subject to the table lest he fell to the floor from whatever battle he was fighting in his sleep.
Music, Vincent thought suddenly. Mothers all across the universe sang lullabies to their children, it would make sense that music would help.
But what to play? Choosing music was always an intuitive choice, but now that Vincent was choosing for someone else, it had become the most difficult of conundrums.
Vincent did not know anything about Loki’s taste in music, or if the god even liked music at all; Loki certainly was critical about Vincent’s last playlist.
There must be something in his collection that appealed to all creation, man or alien.
Then he found it: Gustav Holst’s The Planets.
It was the perfect choice. No other composer ever came close to expressing such love and awe for the cosmos as deeply and as emotionally as Gustav. If there was something to love about, and in Loki, Gustav would find it.
The first movement was Mars, the Bringer of War. Despite it being his favourite, his companion on many, many monotonous days, it seemed a questionable choice given the circumstances.
After some hesitation, Vincent decided to skip it. He tried not to think about why he was being so accommodating toward a lowly Variant, beyond the clinical need to provide an optimal clinical environment for an extraterrestrial brain wave tracing.
The second movement of the orchestral suite soon filled the treatment room, its acoustics tranquil and calming.
Venus, the Bringer of Peace.
Perfect, Vincent thought.
**************************
“Agent Mobius. May I have a moment of your time?”
“Oh no…” Mobius groaned at the sight of the man marching down the hall. His hand flew to his forehead. “What has he done now?”
“If you mean your pet…" Vincent drawled, "It’s not so much what he’s done that’s the problem, but what’s been done to him.”
Mobius stopped massaging his head. “Meaning?"
“He’s under a lot of stress,” Vincent said. “And I mean, a lot.”
“Doctor, this is Loki we’re talking about," Mobius reminded him. "Stressed is his default setting.”
“He’s not in the best of shape, I’ll give you that,” Vincent said. “But - ”
“Wait,” Mobius interrupted. “If you’re here then where's Loki? Did you take him back to his cell? You were supposed to inform me once you’re done.”
“Done? Far from it,” Vincent said, shaking his head. “We’ve barely started, which is what I came to talk to you about.”
“You left him in the lab? Alone?” Mobius exclaimed. “Damn it, Strange, you know better than that!”
“It’s not like he’s going anywhere,” Vincent said with a nonchalant shrug. “He’s not exactly conscious.”
Alarm turned to abject concern. “Loki's unconscious? What the hell happened?”
“Let me rephrase that,” Vincent said hurriedly, “He’s fine. I simply put him to sleep."
Though Mobius' expression remained carefully schooled, Vincent felt called to defend himself. "I had to.”
“Vincent, what is going on?” Mobius asked. "Did he try to attack you again?"
Vincent raked a hand through his hair, suddenly acutely aware of his rumpled appearance. "It was nothing I couldn't handle."
"I thought it was a routine EEG session."
"Nothing is ever routine with Loki, is it?”
“Another one of your rhetorical questions, Doctor?”
“My next one isn’t,” Vincent fixed Mobius with a hard, probing stare. "Loki seemed out of sorts today. I was wondering if you could tell me why?"
Mobius was quiet for a while. "Out of sorts how?"
"On edge, like the smallest thing could set him off." Which it did, Vincent added silently.
The thoughtful silence lingered, uneasiness creeping in as seconds passed.
"You don't look surprised," Vincent said, careful to keep any accusation out of his remark.
“Loki’s unpredictable. Who knows what he’s thinking?”
"You," Vincent said bluntly. "You're the Loki expert. And you were also the last one to talk to him."
“Of course I was. No one else talks to him.”
“Is there something you’re keeping from your dear Variant?”
Mobius laughed. “Now what made you say something like that?”
Vincent looked pointedly at the fat bundle of folders Mobius was carrying. “Doing research all by yourself?”
“I…don’t see how that’s any of your business.”
“I have made it my business. What is the TVA planning to do with him?”
Mobius pursed his lips, looking thoughtful.
“Careful, Doctor," he cautioned lightly. "Your compassion is starting to show.”
“I like him. He’s entertaining," Vincent deadpanned. He took a step closer toward the increasingly wary analyst. “But so were all the Lokis before him, in their own way. So why is this one still alive?”
“How does it go, ‘Ours is not to question why’?”
“ 'Theirs not to reason why, theirs but to do and die',” Vincent corrected indignantly.
"Huh. I suppose you're right." Mobius' eyes disappeared behind his smile. “You’re the Shakespeare fanatic.”
“It’s Tennyson,” Vincent said, his frustration growing by the second. “You're avoiding the question, Mobius.”
Mobius drew in a measured breath, taking his time to choose his words, as one must. “He is on his last legs.”
“And what happens if he fails?”
“You know the answer to that, Doctor.”
Mobius watched the myriad of expressions cross the doctor's face. “You shouldn’t trust him, you know."
“I don’t trust Loki as far as I can throw him,” Vincent said swiftly. "I am simply exercising my duty of care."
Being all too versed in the effects Loki could have on people, Mobius could only roll his eyes. "Yeah, you tell yourself that."
"What is your problem with me, Agent Mobius?"
"I can't read you," Mobius said flatly. "You're as clear as mud, and frankly, I don't trust you."
"Wow." Vincent stared at the analyst with new eyes. "How long have you had that one in the barrel?"
Mobius shrugged. "It only just came up."
"Right," Vincent said with a snort. “You’re not as convincing as you think.”
"Wasn't trying to be. But I wouldn't worry about it," Mobius said. "My reservation about you is entirely professional."
Vincent let out an incredulous laugh. "I am not a spy, if that's what you're implying."
"That's…exactly what a spy would say."
"Is it? Clearly I don't have what it takes to be one."
"What exactly do you want, Doctor?" Mobius asked in exasperation.
"I want to help."
"Why?"
Instantly, Loki's battered, haunted face flashed through Vincent's mind.  Set me free.
Kill me.
Vincent forced the images out of his head, but transference won out, bleeding desperation into his plea.
"The faster you find the Variant, the better."
Suddenly Mobius looked every inch of his years. "Just what do you think I've been doing, Vincent?"
"How are you choosing your apocalypses?"
"You don't have the clearance, Doc, you know that."
"How?" Vincent pressed.
“I don’t think you understand what’s at stake here,” Mobius said tightly. "I follow orders, just like you."
"Loki took an arrow for you."
"I am his ticket to staying alive," Mobius said with no trace of arrogance. "And he was trying to get into the Time Keepers' good - "
"It was poisoned. And he took it anyway," Vincent growled.
Mobius paled.
"If there was one figure in history who loved his poisons, it was King Mithridates of Pontus," Vincent said, recalling what Loki had shared about his childhood fascination. “Loki knew more than he was letting on.”
He watched Mobius' throat bob up and down, but felt no satisfaction.
"Sounds like you don't know Loki all that well, Agent Mobius."
"Come on, Doctor. This is Loki we're talking about. He didn't do it to save me," Mobius said, finally tired of playing games. "He had an ulterior motive. We both know what it was."
Vincent felt an inexplicable rush of anger. "For someone so smart, you're incredibly off the mark."
They stared each other down, until they garnered suspicious looks from passing Minutemen.
"If we're going to fight, can we take it somewhere else?" Mobius asked brightly.
"Thought you'd never ask." Vincent turned on his heel and began to walk. "Come with me."
*************************
“What’s with the music?”
“Music helps me work. The louder it is, the better.”
“How can anyone sleep through this racket?” Mobius muttered, crouching down next to the bed. He poked Loki's face a few times. "Wow. He's really out, huh."
"Like a light."
"What did you give him?" Mobius asked suspiciously.
"Nothing all that potent," Vincent murmured, skimming through Loki's vital signs and brain wave tracing on his monitor screen. "It's mostly exhaustion."
Satisfied with the readings, he turned off the music, cleared the table of clutter, and gestured for Mobius to sit.
"No, thanks. I'm good."
Vincent would not take no for an answer, not when he was offering the only stool in the lab. "It swivels. It's really fun."
Mobius reluctantly obliged, albeit with a bemused expression. "You're very strange, you know that?"
"Thanks, I really don't hear that enough," Vincent said dryly. “I would offer you coffee, but it is cold and black.”
“Seriously, Doctor, I’m fine.”
"Great. Now where were we?"
Mobius shrugged. "Nowhere helpful. We might be colleagues, but I don't know what I can tell you that doesn't go against TVA policy."
"You don't need to go into detail. I'm only interested to know how you're choosing your next destination, besides depending on your usual Variance Energy surveillance reports."
"Well, we go through historical records and Loki would then stratify the apocalypses based on a combination of risks and resource availability," Mobius explained. "Which in turn will tell us how likely the Variant would stay in a particular place, for any length of time."
Vincent tapped a finger against his coffee cup. "So you're saying that your main variable in your search is the level of comfort?"
"Not comfort," Mobius said. "Survival capabilities. The Variant needs food, weapons, energy source, that sort of thing."
"Maybe you're looking in the wrong place."
Mobius heaved a weary sigh. "If you have a strong opinion you simply can't contain, I am more than happy to hear it."
"Find the apocalypse that is the least comfortable," Vincent suggested. “Anywhere else, the Variant is just going to lay in wait and pick you off one by one.”
"Doctor, all apocalypses are uncomfortable," Mobius said incredulously. "Deadly, even."
"Least comfortable for you," Vincent clarified. "You and your men."
Mobius blinked owlishly at him. “I hate to admit it, but you’ve lost me.”
“The answer lies in Loki's biology,” Vincent said triumphantly, like he had made some kind of grand discovery.
“What about his biology?”
"Look. The Loki variants may not all look the same, but you won't find any of them treading lava in Pompeii or braving the Great Fire of 1910, Agent Mobius."
"That is stating the obvious,” Mobius muttered. He stole a glance at Loki to make sure he was still sleeping. “He’s a Jotun.”
"Exactly. Essentially, this means that there are places the Variant would thrive in, places we can't reach. Places that are inhospitable," Vincent stressed, wagging a finger back and forth, "- to us."
“You know, Doc…” Mobius drawled, eyes gleaming as understanding began to dawn on him. “I think you’re onto something here."
A grunting sound from the bed had them turn simultaneously.
"What…what is this?" Loki asked hoarsely. Clearly disoriented, he struggled against the restraints, muscles bulging with exertion. "No, no, no…"
Mobius and Vincent exchanged looks.
“Loki,” Mobius called. “Calm down.”
Loki’s gaze darted around the room, and when their eyes finally met, terror turned into confusion. “Who are you? What is this place?"
Mobius rose to his feet in alarm; there was no recognition in the cloudy green eyes at all. “What’s going on, Doc? Is this a side effect from the sedation?”
“I’m not sure,” Vincent said, shaking his head slowly. “Maybe.”
The doctor peeled himself from the wall and approached the bed with care.
"Loki."
Loki's head whipped around at the sound of the doctor's voice. An ugly snarl contorted his face.
"You," Loki hissed, eyes wild and crazed. "You second-rate charlatan."
Without taking his eyes off Vincent, Loki called out roughly, “Thor, he's here again!"
He threw back his head, his bound arms and legs thrashing about, but there was no escape.
"Thor, you bastard, where are you?"
Vincent held out a placating hand, but in his psychosis, Loki shrank back in the bed and shrieked, "Don't touch me!"
"It's okay," Vincent said soothingly. "You're okay."
Against his better judgement, he reached down and gripped Loki's shoulder.
The grounding effect from the touch was immediate; like fog lifting at dawn, the dazed look cleared from Loki's eyes.
"Vincent?"
Vincent ignored the overfamiliar mode of address and repeated, "You're okay."
"I'm…okay."
Awareness returned to Loki in overlapping memories; as they unravelled, piece by broken piece, the devastation mounted, stacked on layers of fury and grief.
"I'm still here."
He closed his eyes, but the tears seeped through all the same, bitter and hot.
"I'm still here."

WIP Tag Game
Rules: Pick five fragments from your unfinished WIPs and then tag five people to keep it going. Let’s have fun with it and help each other shape those fragments into published fics!
I was tagged by both @dewdropreader and @insert-witty-user-name-here. Thank you both for the tags!
Unlike Dewdrop I have SO MANY to choose from 🤣🤣 and I’ll share the five closest to completion.
(It’s me, so there’s NSFW stuff mixed in here 🙃)
Struggling to get this one done before Christmas- or at least before New Years! It’s that same Sylvie/reader universe- the one with the crack smut that’s oddly hot and awkwardly personal!!:
Because Sylvie’s in your living room, dressed in the same festive red sweater from the first time you saw her, greeting you warmly like you’re just old friends (you know, who’ve only actually met twice and fucked both of those times), and more importantly, like Loki isn’t watching you both with wide eyes from beneath your Christmas tree, crouched on all fours and naked except for the shiny red ribbon tied into a gift bow around his neck, reindeer antlers atop his head, and a furry little reindeer tail protruding from his ass cheeks, which you can only assume is attached to a butt plug of some sort.
That squishy Mobius tummy needs sexy worship and I don’t even care how weird I am:
It’s strange, and he knows it. He’s done stranger, sure, but it was always a novelty, the pushing of a limit, something where the thrill lay in the taboo. But this… the thrill is in the act itself, pure and simple, and it feels impossibly different.
He grinds down, experimentally, into the welcoming give of Mobius’s soft belly, and all at once he’s certain he couldn’t stop himself no matter how strange he knows it is. A shaky moan spills from his lips as he does it again, and again.
The daggers/sword love story no one asked for:
Æsileif was passed from Minuteman to analyst to Minuteman, and so on, before being settled into the hands of Judge Ravonna Renslayer, whose energy and attitude were downright repugnant to her.
This was the woman who stole Sylvie’s life from her.
This was the woman Æsileif was made to destroy.
And yet, Æsileif was useless, helpless without a hand to wield her.
She’d never felt so maddeningly, vengefully, frustrated before in her entire existence.
But then he walked in.
This Mobius, she’d seen him briefly earlier, while she was being transported through the halls.
Another mindless drone, brainwashed by the TVA to do its bidding.
But no, something was different, Æsileif realized as she listened to him speak with Renslayer. He pushed, he questioned.
And when the time came, he acted.
The Lokius angst fest with a side of extreme dubcon (no dubcon or sexual content in this snippet):
“So tell me, Loki. Why are you really here?”
“I told you, Mobius, please—”
The tears that sting his eyes when he feels the back of Mobius’s hand strike him across the face are unexpected and humiliating. It isn’t the pain, really. It’s shock, it’s loss, it’s betrayal.
“Seeing how it seems you’re feeling uncooperative, I suppose we’ll have to continue this conversation a little later. It’s been fun.”
The time cell he’s thrown into is a far, far worse memory than the one he’d been trapped in before. Loki hears the awful screeching of the Chitauri before anything else, and the last image he has to hang onto before the cell door closes is that of the eyes he’s come to know so well, now devoid of any warmth or familiarity. He sinks into a crouch on the cold rock, hugging his knees against his chest and reaching desperately for the memory of kindness in those eyes.
That’s really it for things close to being finished that I have yet to share, so I’ll throw this one in, the McSylkius AU that I really don’t expect to ever finish:
Sylvie sighed heavily, pressing her forehead to the relatively cool tile wall beside the register. The night was almost over, thankfully—just a few more minutes and she could close the place up. She closed her eyes as she leaned into the wall, silently hoping that the rest of the evening would be uneventful.
The steady, chaotic stream of customers they’d experienced that evening was far from unusual for a night like this one. They were the nearest fast food—and the latest to close—from the hotel a couple of miles away, whose grand ballroom saw many events on Fridays and Saturdays, and it was standard for their weekend nights to be filled with latecomers barreling through after a long, stuffy evening, still dressed in their formal attire, looking for a greasy, satisfying after-dinner snack or meal—and tonight was no exception. The crowds had just died down from this night’s post-gala rush, though, and Sylvie was looking forward to having a moment to eat something, herself, and to putting her feet up at home.
The sudden whoosh of cool evening air and the sound of the door opening, though, snapped her out of those thoughts immediately. Fuck. Oh well, this’ll be the last of them, she thought, straightening up and plastering her best customer service face—which, truth be told, was not that great, even when she wasn’t this exhausted—back on, and turning to face into the restaurant.
I am really bad at tagging people but @playinggalaga I know you’ll enjoy getting in on this! Anyone else who wants to, please do! I just don’t want to bug anyone 🙈
