1. Looking for a Cloud Recesses era fic. LWJ eventually ask WWX why he doesn't complete his punishment to get it out of the way (he just doodles in the library so the punishment stretches on). WWX points out that it takes more than 1 to cheat in an exam and yet where are the other culprits? This leads to LWJ's awakening to the unfairness/hypocrisy of LQR and interpreting rules. I think this might be just before the betrothal is cancelled, and LWJ confronts LQR or he steps up for WWX during this scene. Maybe? It could be 2 separate scenes. Argh! Please help! At some point he goes to live in a mansion in yilling with mian mian and mo xuanyu and xu yang to go away from rumors because lwj had to also marry wen qing to appease wen rouhan

I think it was something along the lines of yzy kicking wwx out, and wwx went to the lan household first (in the middle of the night?) but lqr thought he was being a disturbance and didn't let him in to see lwj and then wwx disappeared. Then several years later, lwj and wwx reconnect and there's a part where lqr is really repetent and shows that he always regretted turning wwx away bc he felt like it was partially his fault for how difficult wwx's life was after that. I read a fic a couple of years ago that I'd love to find again... it was a modern au, where LWJ worked in his family run martial arts complex or something along those lines (I think a-yuan was a student, which is how WWX met him? But I might be getting my fics crossed) I remember LWJ was autistic, and there was a community festival or something and he was getting super overwhelmed so wwx put some juice or ketchup on his hand and pretended to be hurt so LWJ would have an excuse to go inside and "heal" him.

Hi, can you help me find this fic in which WWX is a General in the army (and is also a Prince I suppose but not like next in line) and is rumored to be hideous looking because of the scar on his face or something and is feared by the world. WangXian are married (arranged) and WWX only sleeps with LWJ enough to conceive a child and once he is informed of LWJ being pregnant, WWX stops seeing LWJ at all. WWX is under the impression that LWJ would find him ugly and so he even dims the lights and has LWJ wear a blindfold whenever they share their marital bed. LWJ doesn’t know his husband, hasn’t even seen his face properly and has never spoken to him in all the months they have been married and he is feeling extremely lonely but one day he finds an injured man in his courtyard and takes care of him without anyone’s knowledge. ohhhhhhhhhhhhhh thank you! For asking!

I don't think I'll ever finish this one but I'm in love with the concept. I wanted to write wangxian with either WWX or LWJ deaged, but I wanted all the angst. And I think that WWX is such that if you just de-age him into a kid post canon, you just get this happy go-lucky kid who seems like nothing's wrong. And he might say things that would hint at there being some very wrong things (either about living in the streets or about the Jiang household, depending on the age you pick), but I just feel he would not engage on that? Like maybe LWJ would be pretty sad about it, but WY would shrug and want to play. Meanwhile, post-canon de-aged!LWJ would be a very sad kiddo, but I don't think adult!WWX would engage with that either. He'd just spend all his time trying to get little LZ to crack a smile and avoid talking about any of the things that he knows are sad about LWJ's childhood until LWJ gets aged up again.

But if LWJ were to go into the past, into WWX's childhood, and actually be there witnessing Wei Ying on the streets or Madam Yu's treatment of him, we'd see a lot more because LWJ would be so protective and defensive and angry in a way he would not need to be if de-aged!WWX was happening in the present post-canon. Likewise, I think WWX would feel both furious and helpless at the way little Lan Zhan's feelings get shut up and repressed if he was at Cloud Recesses in the time when LWJ was actually a child, in a way WWX wouldn't be if LWJ was de-aged in the present post-canon. Basically, if either of them is de-aged post-canon, they get to be in the protecting and loving environment the other would create for them, when what's sad about their childhoods is the difficult environments they each had.

But I really didn't want to do time travel, because things changing in the past changes the present, and that wasn't what I was interested in. I just wanted them to be able to witness each other's childhoods.

So, post-canon, they encounter some kind of demon that seems to have trapped WWX in his own mind, but LWJ can enter his mind to save him. This puts LWJ in WWX's memories of childhood and witnesses WWX in the streets, WWX running from dogs, WWX getting found by JFM, etc. At first, LWJ thinks he can only passively watch the memories, but kid!Wei Ying inside the memories notices him, and LWJ realizes that he can talk to Wei Ying and interact with Wei Ying. He can thus change the memories--to an extent. No one else in the memories can see him or interact with him, because the living WWX exists in these memories but the other people are static memories in WWX's head. So, for instance, LWJ can pick up Wei Ying and take him away from the dogs, but the dogs don't react as though LWJ is there at all. LWJ can stand up to Madam Yu and say that she's treating Wei Ying unfairly, but Madam Yu can't hear him.

But Wei Ying can, and Wei Ying isn't aware he's inside his memories. To him, LWJ is this magical cloud prince who just shows up sometimes and is very pretty and nice and kind to him. They progress linearly through the memories until 15yo!WWX meets 15yo!LWJ, then WWX realizes who the magical cloud prince is and begins to figure out that he's somehow trapped.

But wait! In fact, WWX was never the one trapped in his own mind by a demon, it's been LWJ all along, except LWJ wouldn't let WWX inside his memories to help him out of the curse, so WWX opened up his own memories to let LWJ travel through then, thinking along the terms of "I showed you mine; now you show me yours." It works, and WWX is finally able to travel though LWJ's memories in the same way as LWJ traveled through his, and then they break the curse.

It's from WWX's pov but starts in Wei Ying's pov when he's 6 or 7 (which is suuuuuuuuper difficult to write btw) and he just sees this pretty gege appearing at random times and calls LWJ in his head "man from cloud."

I didn't write much. Sadly, as much as I love the idea, I don't see myself continuing it. I love the idea more than the idea of executing it! Thank you for asking! <3

I don't understand why so many of mdzs fans hate jiang cheng .They are looking at wwx & lwj pov side and why can't they look at jc story from his side as well.

Madam yu was a bad mother but a great leader. She was blinded by hatred. And fengmian can't be called a good person too. He mistreated his own son because he looked like his mother . Jc was a child , all jc wanted loving parents . But madam yu doesn't know how to show love or affection & fengmian knew how to do it, but he didn't even care about it. The only good thing fengmian did was adopt wy & the only good thing madam yu did was care about jc somehow .I will never forget this, which is that fengmian picked jc less than 5 times (according to him) but each time was enough to keep him happy for months .He didn't like jc because he was like madam yu and he never saw how hard jc worked to please him and get his attention. Madam yu used this as a weapon . They were passing jc between the two of them like he was just a toy, and they didn't know how much damage it had done to the boy since he was a child. Can you imagine how depressed he was since childhood? Jyl was the only one who gave him a little relief, but don't forget that after wy came to lotus peir , he got the full attention of not only his father but also his sister. He was so alone but still loved & cared wy. How is it when not only parents but others compare him with wy and always say that you can't do this and that? He was a little boy then , Because of his family & others his insecurity about himself and the feeling that no one likes him increased.

He was not 16-17 years old when the collapsed clan was handed over to him. The entire clan has been destroyed, there are about 50-100 people. Even his parents were killed and he could not find his brother. Also, he lost his golden core when he went to protect wy. Don't forget that time wen chao captured him and tortured him, beating him with discipline whips after removing his golden core. And he had to see his people killed in front of his eyes and had to see his whole clan burn to ashes . And that time how many people tried to take his place because he was young and had no one to help him? No one can imagine his mental state at that time. But, he endured all of them and rebuilt the clan from scratch.

After wy came back, others blamed jc for all of wy's mistakes. Jc is angry because wy didn't choose him. At a time when his clan is still being built, jc can't choose both his brother and the members of the wen clan. That's why he told his brother to come to him, because he will protect his brother no matter what anyone says. Yiling belonged to yunmenng and who protected them during those three years? And he wasn't there at JZ's death, so he believed the rumours. And think about it, he is a brother as well as a clan leader. If he makes a small mistake, it will go outside his clan. And if he doesn't go with wy's seige, what will happen to his rebuilding clan? His sister died in front of his eyes and went to protect wy. Not only that ,in front of his eyes wy divested his qi.(I am talking about the mdzs plot because the plot of cql/tu has been completely changed) He loved his brother & sister more than his parents. Because Yanali and Xian were like his parents since childhood.

Who can bear that pain within three years he lost his entire family. In the end, he was left with only that one-month-old child without parents. He didn't kill his brother, but everyone said he did. How does he feel the pain when others says that? God, he is a human too.If he hates wy so much, why did he keep chengquing a secret from everyone for 16 years? And when wy came back he knew it was his brother. If he hates wy so much, he could have told everyone that he is back? And others don't know if it's true or false about jc torturing dark cultivatiors , it's all rumours. Also, even after wy came back, jc was angry because he chose lz instead of jc.

He is sad and angry not because of anything, Because no matter how much he trusts wy, wy doesn't trust him. That's why he says that if wy hid the fact that he gave the golden core to jc as a secret, he will also keep the loss of his golden core as a secret. He knows that even if his brother comes back, he doesn't want him and that's why he let him go. Jc's sacrifices for everyone, his pains, his everything are hidden from everyone by his outer character.

If we take the story from the beginning to the end, is he not the one who has been alone all the time without anything and bearing all the pain alone? All he wanted was a loving family.

It's so sad that everyone misunderstands him without seeing his story from his side 💔.

Jiang cheng is a person who hide his soft and weak heart by acting strict .

*cracks knuckles* this is going to end up being a jc apologist post. here we go~

I mean, I know everyone and their uncle has agony feelings about the whole golden core thing. That subplot is the fulcrum on which the Yunmeng Shuangjie turns, from JC getting caught by the Wens (losing his core) to keep WWX safe to WWX giving JC his own core to the postwar reveal at Lotus Pier. And I know it inspires complex emotions in people. And I know people have wildly differing opinions on JC as a person and how his actions reflect on the sort of guy he is, and whether or not he's a good person.

I don't particularly care about a character's morality, so I'm discarding the question of good and evil when it comes to chengxian.

BUT what I do really like is the application of the wangxian "between two people who love each other, there is no need for apologies or thank yous" thing. Because even more than wangxian, that's the sort of ideology that might benefit chengxian. There is just too much to apologize for between the two of them.

Because if you're WWX, what could you even apologize for? For saving your little brother's ability to cultivate when he needed to be sect leader, when he had nothing else in the world that might keep him alive, when you knew it was something you could work around?

You could argue it was the height of thoughtless selfishness that he made that decision for JC and lied to him about it, and maybe you'd be right, but if you were WWX you wouldn't apologize for it either. You might apologize for things that weren't really your fault--the burning of Lotus Pier, for example. Or the death of Jiang Yanli. Apologize for taking up the heretical arts? How could you, when it won the war, saved innocents, and got you your revenge?

And what could JC apologize for? Cruelty? Anger? Careless sacrifice? How could he apologize for any of those things when he just watched his parents be killed and his home burned to the ground in front of his eyes, when he watched his older brother devolve into madness and kill their older sister, whom they both loved and was their only family left in the world? How could he apologize for sacrificing for WWX when WWX could and did do the same?

In the realm of gratitude--there is precious little to be grateful for between the two of them, and simultaneously too much for words. How do you thank someone for giving you your life back at the cost of their sanity, at their chance at immortality, at everything that had made them respected and feared and loved? The question goes for either of them, as WWX and JC made the exact same sacrifice within weeks of each other.

What makes these two fun is that they're unspeakably, bitterly cruel to each other, and so horrendously selfish. I feel that because WWX is the POV character and JC occupies an antagonistic role, you don't get to see this as much in the books. JC's cruelty is loud and obvious and it's so easy to look at him and hate him for it, this powerful man who has thrived because the protagonist sacrificed for him and yet insists on anger and violence and assuming the worst of everyone.

But it's an equally cruel thing to take away a person's autonomy and choice because you think you know what's best for them. It's equally cruel to spiral so far into your own arrogance, your own apathy, that you fail to notice the tides of politics around you shifting. WWX did his best with incredibly limited choices--that's why we love him. But JC's hands were tied as much as his older brother's, if not moreso.

And the most beautiful thing about chengxian, I think, is that they both make crippling mistakes because they are each other's blind spot for so much of the novel. Even before LZ was WWX's everything, it'a JC that WWX trusts above all else--this is clear during the Sunshot campaign and even after. And JC obviously trusts him--he has since childhood, since WWX promised to support him (and isn't that delicious, the broken promises and shattered dreams of the youth?).

Which obviously makes it so fucking painful when JC sees what WWX has wrought pre-siege of the Burial Mounds and goes understandably apeshit.

It also matters how JC shows that, even thirteen years after, he still trusts WWX. He still believes in WWX, and, dare I say it, holds onto the childish belief that his untouchable older brother can carry the day. It's why the scene in Guanyin Temple where JC throws Chenqing to WWX is so goddamn powerful. He brought that flute knowing WWX was the only one who could use it, that WWX might need it, and when they're down to the wire with no options left, JC believes in WWX.

Plus even in CQL canon, JC and WWX reconcile enough that JC visits Gusu to disturb the peace. Chengxian is all the more fun because it's about the power of reconciliation even more than wangxian is, and fundamentally, about forgiveness and the acceptance of the other person's flawed humanity. Which is, in the end, what makes it so compelling.

Hello! I wanted to rec a fic on ao3 called "Restoration" by jelenedra. It's complete, an alternate universe of the sunshot campaign told nonlinearly. It has strong fairy tale and fae elements, with a touch of mystery. Bit of a fix it. Some delightful one liners, and the final ending imagery is just LOVELY. The fic deserves much more love. There's also some YilingWei, wwx not raised by Jiang, and sentient Burial Mounds elements. Enchanting read that keeps you enthralled and curious and intrigued.

Wei Ying swallows hard, his hand tight around the cardboard sleeve of the cup. He doesn’t look at Lan Zhan, or at anything in particular, distant and tense. But why? That memory - for Lan Zhan, at least - had been peaceful, even pleasant. Nothing like the violence of the first.

“Wei Ying,” he begins, and falters.

“Lan Zhan.” Wei Ying finally spares him a glance, a tight little smile. “Thanks for the tea. Let’s go in.”

Lan Zhan does not want to sit through this lecture stuck in his own vague memories, trying to listen instead of staring at Wei Ying’s hands as he doodles in the margins of his notebook. He wants to take Wei Ying away, take him home. Do something to make him smile, even if he doesn’t want to talk.

Wei Ying doesn’t speak up in class for the first time that Lan Zhan can remember. His pen rests between his fingers, leaking ink as he presses it to the page, but he doesn’t take notes or even doodle in the margins. When the teacher finally dismisses them, Wei Ying packs up in silence, and Lan Zhan can feel the opportunity to break that silence between them slipping away with every second, and he still doesn’t know what to say. There’s a deep furrow between his brows; Lan Zhan wants to press his thumb to it, rub it away until it’s smooth again.

They fall silent for a while, thinking or trying not to think. It’s a fault of society, probably, that the presumed default for a soulmate bond is romantic, when that’s so often not the case. So many soulmates are found in families, partners in crime, nemeses — two people who the universe or destiny or whatever force you believe in decided to put together and see what would happen. TV and movies make it all look so simple. Oh, there may be obstacles to finding one’s soulmate, contrived reasons keeping them apart, but there is always a happy ending. But real life is more complicated than that. It’s a mother and father who refuse to tell their sons about their past life; it’s watching people around you find their match while you settle for never finding a soulmate at all; it’s a soulmate who wants to be anything but your soulmate. You dream that you’ll find it, and then it only makes things harder. Lan Zhan had understood that even as a child. He wonders if his own parents were happy to find their soulmate, or if it was always a burden. A curse.
