Title: The First Spectre, chapter 2: Eden Prime

Fandom: 911, Mass Effect

Pairing: Endgame Buddie but it’ll be a couple hundred k before we’re there.

Fic summary:

Thirty years after the mars ruins were discovered leading to the Charon Relay and twenty since the First Contact War, humanity is still striving to take its place amongst the Citadel Council as equals. Commander Evan “Buck” Buckley, the lone survivor of Akuze is nominated to become the first human Spectre.

When his test mission goes sideways, Buck uncovers a much larger threat against all sentient life. Can he convince the Council to prepare for war or will they ignore the dangers that are closing in?

A new cycle has begun. The Reapers are coming.

Tags/warnings: first draft, Buddie —>MShepard, Biotic Eddie Diaz, Lone Survivor Buck, will have character deaths but not Eddie, Buck or Christopher (at least permanently). Space Opera levels of violence and alien weirdness.

They’re a few warehouses away from the space port when they run into their first and only survivor thus far, and she’s screaming for help.

“Ahhhhhhhhh!” A woman in Alliance Marine armor runs around a corner and almost smacks right into Buck face first and would have fallen as she bounced off him if he hadn’t caught her. 

“Um, hi?” Slips out before Buck can check himself. 

The woman shoves him aside, out of breath and raising her gun to point back where she’d come from. “They’re coming?”

“Who’s coming?” 

It’s a stupid question.  The sound of a hoard of husks stampeding towards them makes her rambling explanation that follows unnecessary. 

“—they’re dead.  The colonists are dead and those robots did it!”

Diaz’s biotics thrum as they cover Buck, shielding him as they prepare to be overrun. “Robots?”

“Geth!” She answers right before the first husk reaches them and then they’re too busy fending off husks to have any further conversation. Diaz continues to shine, his biotics providing the perfect compliment to Buck’s aim. The woman is no slouch either and Diaz starts giving both of them targeting assistance.  Buck can tell the biotic is tiring but Diaz doesn’t make a complaint, just keeps going and going. 

Buck is going to owe the man a beer or two after this, assuming they both survive. 

They’re just about done mopping up when Buck hears something mechanical and robotic make a noise he’s never heard before.  It’s low pitched, a thrum followed by a robotic trill, mimicking human speech as pitch rises at the end of sentence to indicate a question. The few remaining husks are whipping from side to side, their movements becoming even jerkier and more frenzied, mouths open and closing in those horrible alien screech-like screams.

The ground underneath Buck’s boots shakes as something heavy takes a step and then another.  The thrum blasts around him, louder, angrier as mechanical joints whir and the Geth steps into view, it’s single, lone eye swiveling on the long sinuous neck of interlocking joints as it locks onto Buck, light lancing across the space like a spotlight as it zeros in. Another whir and a muffled series of thumps and the eye seems to rotate and grow brighter, energy gathering and then shooting out at him only to smack against the biotic barrier that Diaz has thrown between them.  The wave of sound as the energy beam hits the barrier sets off a secondary concussive sound wave and Buck staggers back a step, fumbling for his rifle. 

The woman fires desperately at the Geth, shots pinging off in all directions as they ricochet off the armored plating that covers the alien machine, hardly making a dent.  Diaz’s biotic shield flares, boosted as the man throws all his remaining energy into protecting Buck who’s standing there like a deer frozen in the headlight of the stuff of alien boogeymen legends. 

Geth aren’t supposed to be here.  Last anyone had heard they’d withdrawn to behind the Perseus Veil after they’d decimated the Quarians and made them into nomads, their homeland of Rannoch lost to the rouge hive mind of the AIs they’d created to help them. Originally designed to be near indestructible, the Geth had been built as laborers and protectors until the AI had begun to question some of the tasks given it and the Quarians had attempted to destroy their greatest work.

The Quarians had lost their war over three hundred years before humans had opened and traversed their first relay. A cautionary tale told to any younger space-faring race about hubris and going too far.  

Nobody but the Quarians had seen a Geth in hundreds of years—but the thing in front of Buck sure looked like the pictures of Geth Armatures in his alien tactics textbook. Diaz’s scream of Buck’s name as he pushed more energy into the shield around Buck finally jolted him enough to get moving again.

Fallout Casting for Satoru "Kakashi-sensei" Gojojojo for Jujutsu Kaisen Abridged react fic

"Five bucks and I'll tongue punch your fart box." - Satoru Gojo, Episode 3 JJK Abridged (by The Schmuck Squad).

Reasons To Why I Believe These Characters Should Be Cast As The Variant of JJK Abridge's Satoru Gojo are listed below the cut:

Elrand Brandt (Fallout Vault Dweller OC, faceclaim Jason Statham) -> In his twenties and had told the Master to kill himself.

Finidy Mona (Fallout 2 Chosen One OC, faceclaim Jessica Alba) -> "Chosen One" will be as close to "Honored One" as Fallout will get.

Alph Dolen (Fallout 3 Lone Wanderer OC, faceclaim Sam Blackensee. Has transformed into a Ghoul) -> Fawkes talked about how it was his destiny to save Project Purity and his hopes and dreams died in his early twenties.

Raul Alfonso Tejada (a ghoul mechanic that helps out Ryder in Fallout New Vegas, follows her around after she saved him on Black Mountain and is inspired to pick up his guns again to protect those of lesser fortune) -> He's badass and voiced by Danny Trejo. Also got very father-figure vibes going on. And lost a young female companion (his sister) like Gojo had (Riko) whom they were both trying to protect.

Nate Gust Sarid (Fallout 4 Sole Survivor OC, faceclaim Steven He. He is a Synthetic Human) -> The SPECIAL cheat stats make a lot more sense with him given the context that he's a synth, which could be similar to Gojo's cheat skills in general. Not to mention they're both (basically) fathers (Shaun for Nate and Yuji & Megumi for Gojo).

Vega (Fallout 76 Resident OC, faceclaim Yvonne Strahovski. Has transformed into a Super Mutant) -> Both are selfish and have unbreakable egos.

Tycho (from Fallout, a Nevada ranger who's wandered the Wasteland of California, he helps Elrand beat Gizmo and takes on the Master's Super Mutant army) -> Hides his face and a total all around badass.

Roger Westin (from Fallout 2, an NCR congressman fighting against the corruption within the New California Republic with underhanded tactics to build a peaceful, civil expansion into the north) -> Badass breaking the rules to do the right thing.

Butch DeLoria (from Fallout 3, Alph's former childhood bully in Vault 101, now one of his closest allies after the Lone Wanderer saved the life of Butch's mother from Radroaches. After Alph and Amata we're run out of the Vault, Butch helped build up the rebellion against Overseer Almodovar, and had managed to slip out of the vault to get Alph and Amata's help. After resolving the issue, Butch joined up with Alph and Amata to wander the Capital Wasteland, becoming the founding members of the newest Tunnel Snakes) -> He's rocking a style and while he can come off as a jerk, he's got a heart of gold, though never a push-over.

Joshua Graham (from Fallout New Vegas' Honest Hearts DLC, Joshua is Caesar's former Legate, now known as "the Burned Man", he resides in Zion to help the Dead Horses (as well as Daniel and the Sorrows) against the threat of the White Legs. Ryder gets some very important insight from him on how to deal with Caesar's Legion) -> Okay, so his eyes aren't blindfolded, but he is bandaged up elsewhere. And not to mention his voice is captivating. And he'd probably despise his Gojo variant which makes for some humorous opportunities.

Deacon (from Fallout 4, the Railroad's top intelligence agent and overall the best spymaster you'll ever meet, he trains Nate in the art of espionage and being a better liar. Had given Nate trust issues for a while when partnered together. He also helps Nate discover he is a synth and come to terms with his newfound existence) -> He's got the charisma. He's got the sunglasses. He's got the lies and the confidence. He's got the vibe of a responsible irresponsible adult. He's got the vibes of a back-alley drug dealer guaranteed to give you the good stuff and be there with you to make sure it goes alright. He's probably stolen caps from Carrington. He's the man. The goat. The guy the Railroad keep around because he's really good at his job even if his tactics are questionable sometimes.

Remember, for the alternative option, REBLOG and put in the tags WHO else from the Fallout franchise should be Abridged!Gojo and WHY you think they'd better suit the role.

Your last post is funny bc just TODAY I watched that season finally. I’m literally 2 episodes into season 5 right now. As someone who just watched that for the first time (and hadn’t noticed it WAS the season finally when I started watching it) I was losing my goddamn MIND watching those episodes. Just constantly 😯😯😯. I began watching 911 when I started seeing posts circulating about Buck being bi. At the time I had no idea who he was other than the occasional gif set but it made me intrigued and I have been HOOKED. Literally trying to get through as many episodes as possible so I can watch the episodes live. Questions for you (since I have no one else to talk to about the show); when did you start watching? Have you had any predictions while watching the show that didn’t/ did come true? Like for me when I watched season 1 and Abby went to the fire department for the first time I SWORE up and down that her and Bobby were meant to be endgame (was clearly wrong lol). But also after Chris got stuck in the Tsunami I called it that something would happy to Harry later on (just a feeling that no one was safe lol, not even the kids). I’m just so curious to see what the fandom theories have been over time lol since I missed out on it!

Yeah, no, watching suspicion/survivors for the first time is WILD. Like, imma be honest and bit oversharing, I watched the show for the first time in a depressive episode, so I watched everything up to 5x10 in like, 6 days according to the posts I made on Tumblr about it, so I didn't realize theorize about anything, I was just hitting next episode like my life depended on it. But I didn't know anything about the show, like, at all, I had just watched 911 lone star in a weekend because it was on the tv and there were only like, 20 episodes of it out it at the time and a network in my country was just showing all of them on a loop, and I opened the Disney app fully intending to rewatch grey's anatomy, and 911 was the first show on my recommended to you list, and I had liked lone star enough, and was like sure why not. And I legit couldn't stop watching. All of this happened the week before 5x11 aired on the us, so 5x11 was the first episode I watched like "live" (the first episode I actually watched live was 5x16) but I watched it in the same week, I think I finished on a Tuesday? And the episode aired on Monday. I can't really give you any theories I have witnessed so far because they would be spoilers tho, but if you wanna come back once you catch up we can talk about some of the madness that goes around here. But I had the same thing happen to me, I didn't realize it was the season finale, and I didn't know anything about the show, so I had no idea what was happening, and I thought I had learned my lesson with the tsunami arc, because I watched 3x01 at like 3 am fully saying this is the last episode I will watch and then I'm gonna go to bed, and then the tsunami hit, and I was like well fuck and then Chris fell in the water and next thing I know is 5 am and Eddie is making me cry at the end there. But I saw the 13 and didn't realize the season only had 14 episodes and then everything kept happening. I seriously cannot imagine what it was like to be forced to wait a week between those 2 episodes it was SO CRAZY. When Eddie got shot I legit froze. Watching that for the first time not knowing it's coming is SOMETHING. I do remember thinking that they were gonna kill Shannon but I didn't expect to be right, I also remember clocking that Jason was Doug pretty fast. Something funny tho, I remember posting that meme that's like "I've had blank for 1 day and a half but if anything happened to him I'd kill everyone in this room and myself" with Buck and I waited until I had been watching for a day and a half, that means I posted it while watching the season 2 finale. I hit post and the truck blew up and I legit went like ????????? and that is still the most ironic thing that ever happened to me while posting about 911 kspskspkspakapkapa (here's the post, I actually came back to edit the tags because I was in shock lol) and I laugh every time I remember that lol but I'm glad you're enjoying the show, you can come back to talk to me about it any time!;

Buddie. Designated Survivor AU.

Evil. Evil evil human you KNOW I have a designated survivor AU SMH

Okay so this I haven't actually decided if I wanted it to be president!Buck and bodyguard!Eddie or president!Eddie and bodyguard!Buck or half a million other combinations but for the sake of this ask I'm gonna go with president!Buck and bodyguard!Eddie. This is very rough and if I do write a designated survivor AU, it won't be like this most likely, but will be similar.

Buck becomes president after the capitol is blown up and is immediately whisked off to the white house where he meets his security detail for the first time, headed by one Eddie Diaz. Initially Eddie isn't a huge fan of Buck because he's clearly way out of his depth and Eddie was sympathetic to the old president who passed away. But then he finds Buck having a panic attack due to his increased responsibilities and talks him down, and from there they become close friends

There's a brief scare at an address to the nation where a lone gunman fires on Buck and Eddie dives to save him, taking a round to the shoulder. He's immediately whisked off to hospital to have the bullet removed and Buck has another security guard cover him while he stays vigil by Eddie's bedside. When Eddie wakes he asks why Buck's stayed there the whole time and Buck tells him it's because he can't stand the idea of someone dying for him

After Eddie's recovered and been back in the job for a few months, he has to talk Buck down from going incognito to a vigil for the people who passed away in the explosion. Buck ignores him, because of course he does, and goes anyway and while he's there, someone recognises him and immediately a riot breaks out. Eddie, who was lurking because he was worried about Buck, grabs him and runs, taking him back to his house where he keeps Buck safe for a couple of hours. Buck meets Chris for the first time, who is in awe because the literal President of the USA is hiding in his lounge. Eddie sends Chris to his room and yells blue murder at Buck for going out even though he told him not to. Buck asks why he's so mad about it and Eddie yells "BECAUSE YOU COULD HAVE DIED" and then proceeds to yell about how he can't live without Buck and Buck's very ???? about the whole thing until he realises what Eddie's saying and admits that he's in love with Eddie too

They have a lot of dom/sub sex with dom!eddie and sub!buck. Buck at one point makes a quip about how the tables are turned that Buck's the one calling Eddie "sir" now even though he's the president and Eddie isn't.

It ends with another assassination attempt on Buck and Eddie's there to see the bullet graze Buck's cheek. He goes in the ambulance with Buck to the hospital and when they have a minute alone Eddie breaks down about nearly losing Buck again, and decides that's the moment to propose. Buck accepts because ofc he does, and agrees that he won't run for president in the upcoming election because he just wants a quiet life with Eddie and Christopher. Also, I've just remembered I didn't mention this, but Hen and Chim are both aides to the president (with Hen as Chief of Staff) and Bobby is his head of Communcations, with Athena as the General of the military

Would I have viewed the finale differently if I didn't know it could have been the last? It still would have sucked and I would have been bummed. Outside of the Buddie of it I don't know why they couldn't let one of them stay single. Especially the pandering way they did it.

As someone who chooses not to be in a relationship, I wish they would have normalized it. I was a bit of an oopsie to older parents and the very youngest to many siblings. As a result, I have taken care of them and a lot of nieces and nephews. But I love it!! It allowed me to go to school longer and get my dream job. I get to vacation when I want. Everyone knows I will be the one to take the kids on their first trip abroad. I love my life. It's a blend of selflessness and selfishness, and there have been people like me forever. I have always seen shades of that in Eddie and Buck. I don't see the need to force either to be in a relationship or even make them seem lonely. Either way, I still wouldn't have liked it because it was done poorly, I especially didn't understand the "why Marisol." It was lazy writing and unfulfilled at best.

Also, one other small thing. I do identify with them a bit also because it's like the butterfly effect. Maybe they would be completely different people if Eddie hadn't knocked up Shannon and Bucks' parents' cared. Maybe I would be different if I was first born instead of last? And that's OK to think, but also ok to still love the life you have now..

I agree with you so much, not wanting to be in a r/s at any cost should be normalized. I'm SO happy for you, to hear that you have a good life and that you're enjoying it to the fullest!

I believe that having a family (a romantic partner, kids) has a different meaning to each person. I'm the granddaughter of Holocaust survivors, so what family is to me was very much shaped by what they taught me. To my grandparents, the family that they built was the ultimate victory over the hatred that tried to exterminate all of us Jews. Passing along their identity, their heritage, their values, as well as the memory of those relatives who had been murdered in the Holocaust, it was all a part of this triumph. That's on top of the significance of continuity through family in Judaism in general.

So I come from a very specific background, and even I recognize that what family means to me isn't a universal thing. Which is why it's very annoying to see that TV and movies often treat the subject as if there is only one way to be happy, and that is to find a romantic partner. Many times, it's tied to having kids as well, but almost always it's about settling with a life partner. And I think it's a harmful message, this idea of "one size fits all." More than that, I believe in certain cases it's so pervasive that some people try to stick it out in bad r/s, even abusive ones, due to the idea that it's better than to be alone. When it clearly is not!

That's why Eddie breaking up with Ana simply over the fact that he wasn't happy was so important, realizing that if his happiness was elsewhere, it's okay to walk away, that was so important. Like I said in this ask reply, they can still turn the storyline with Marisol (and for that matter, Natalia) into something poignant about Eddie (and Buck's) journey. What upsets me is the thought they might have actually wanted to leave it there, in that place where Buddie seem to be dating women just for the sake of dating once more.

Background on Buck’s breakdown #1 of ?: Buck vs. Evan

Buck is headed towards a mental breakdown and there are a lot of things that have and are continuing to contribute to it (related posts: Before Bucks Breakdown and Buck Breaks).  His parents’ actions regarding the reason for his birth along with the fact that they kept it a secret from him for 29 years are major contributors (related post: The Buckley Parents) but there are other people and factors that should be considered too (related GIF set: Buck being used for his parts).  A large portion of Buck’s breakdown can be associated with his current identity crisis since he’s still searching for who he is and what makes him happy.  He’s struggling with trying to identify who Evan is compared to the persona he assumed of Buck because Evan hides behind Buck so that people can’t get to know the real him.  Buck was born Evan Buckley but he started searching for something after he left Hershey, PA in 2012. He traveled the Americas and ended up in Los Angeles, CA after he left Peru in 2015 and then he started at the LAFD Academy in 2017.  He started asking people to call him Buck instead of Evan because Buck is the firefighter persona he uses that allows him to act like he’s brave, fearless and strong.  He told Maddie in 2x18 “This Life We Choose” that being a firefighter was his life, it was the only thing he’s ever done that mattered and without it he doesn’t have much of anything.  He told Bobby in 3x6 “Monsters” that when he puts on the uniform it allows him to be brave and strong and he feels like he matters.  The problem for Buck is it doesn’t matter how he tries to hide behind his Buck persona, Evan still lives inside of his heart and mind which means he can’t escape his past until he deals with all of the hurt that he’s experienced over the years.

Buck has told his parents, Bobby and everyone at the 118 to call him Buck.  After Philip, his father called him Evan during a conversation he had with his parents in 2021, Buck said, “Buck! Buck! It’s uh, it’s what people who know me, that’s what they call me”.  That was not true because people who really know him are allowed to call him Evan.  Maddie and Eddie are the only two people who really know Buck well enough to call him by his birth name.  Whenever one of them calls him Evan, he doesn’t correct them because they know he sometimes reverts to being insecure, lonely, reckless, sad, scared and shy; therefore they know Buck very well and he understands that he can’t hide behind his Buck persona with them. Maddie is Buck’s sister, she raised him and she knows him better than his parents and after more than 30 years, his parents still don’t know him at all.  Eddie and Buck are in love with each other, they built The Buckley-Diaz Family together and Eddie named Buck to be Christopher’s legal guardian in his will.  Therefore Maddie and Eddie are the most important people in Buck’s life and they are the only people who can immediately tell when Buck is about to spiral.  The show has purposefully kept Maddie and Eddie’s CANON interactions limited over the years and even though some audience members want them to be besties, it won’t happen until after Buck and Eddie have become a romantic couple (related post: Maddie and Eddie).

Some Thoughts on 911 Lone Star (Episode One)

I'm not planning to write up something for every single episode... just the ones that I feel really leave me with something to say. But definitely, to kick this rewatch off...

This is the type of show that smacks you in the face with its diversity agenda by the time the first episode is half over. And it's great. It just got me thinking how-- after Buck being announced as bi in the original 911 went viral, I saw people who were otherwise unfamiliar with these series starting to refer it as the 'gay firefighter show.'

Maybe this first episode blurb is more me trying to sell it to new fans than anything else, but honestly: both 911s were always 'gay firefighter' shows. If you're looking for a new series that's heavy on the diversity, look no further.

Just... to give you a little bit of a run-down on this spin-off's premise and these characters:

We open in New York City with Captain Owen Strand being approached by the fire chief from Austin, Texas about relocating there to help rebuild and repopulate a firehouse that recently lost all but one of its members in an accident on a call. Specifically, they're looking to diversify the force. They kind of skirt around coming right out and saying they got into legal trouble for not being inclusive enough but... you get the picture. Owen, fairly tactfully, points out that they're not exactly off to the best start, going to a straight white guy for the job, but they want him to lead this effort for one big reason: Owen once had to rebuild his own firehouse from scratch, after he lost his entire crew during 9/11. Something that has longer-reaching effects for him, as he's recently been diagnosed with cancer.

This opening episode does kind of give him a white savior type of vibe but... I didn't think it was too obnoxious. This time around, I have 4 seasons' worth of hindsight to be able to share that there is quite a bit more to his character: Owen's a good leader. But on a personal level, he can be almost childishly competitive and stubborn to the point of self-destruction. He is occasionally frustrating to watch... but generally a really likable character. As for the rest of the team:

TK Strand, Owen's gay, recovering addict son, Marjan, a Muslim woman, Paul, a black trans man, Mateo, a dyslexic Mexican American and Judd, who was the sole survivor from the accident and is dealing with PTSD at least in this first season.

And it doesn't stop there, but I think the point has been made for an initial rundown.

I think it's important to note that-- while a pretty big deal is made of their differences in this first episode-- literally being part of the premise of the pilot-- none of these characters feel diverse in a token sort of way. They've all got strong personalities and character quirks... Even when those differences are the focus of one of their plot points, who they are always takes precedence over what they are.

I actually went and rewatched this one first... so I haven't seen the pilot for the original 911 in several years, but I remember that one getting off to kind of a rough start. I love them both but I definitely feel like Lone Star is stronger from the beginning. It started, like, 3 seasons into the original's run, so the showrunners had some time to test out what worked, get a feel for the writing, etc. (I actually totally forgot that the Tarlos romance started right in with episode one. I saw Carlos eyeing up TK after the car accident call and then later in the bar... I feel like maybe the fandom has rewritten my memory a bit, because I definitely remembered TK being the bolder one.)

Anyway, I've fallen deep down this hole and am really looking forward to reliving it.

Sorry for taking a week on this 😅 without further ado ~

pre-accident:

Corey grows up watching old westerns, Little House on the Prairie, The Waltons, etc because Joan doesn't want him watching any of that raunchy, degenerate current TV, it might give him ideas about girls and a girl could take him away from her.

Little does she know he's still getting ideas about leaving. Go west, young man! Haven't you been told? California's full of whiskey, women, and gold 🤩 Corey heavily feels his father's absence, so the cowboys and farmers on TV become his Daddy. That's what A Man is. That's what Corey should be, would be if his fucking mother would lay off. That's what would make his father proud, if he had lived, the kind of boy he would've raised Corey to be, Joan be damned.

As he gets into his teens, he gets more interested in science and math in school and science fiction in media. Joan allows him Star Wars and Star Trek. He puts the cowboy thing to bed and decides to become an engineer and he works really hard junior and senior year of high school and in his two years at the community college.

But then the accident ruins that plan, and his daydreams find their way back to farms and rodeos and shoot outs. Except Corey always used to picture himself as the US Marshall. Now he imagines himself as the bank robber or the cattle rustler. Less Lone Ranger, more Jesse James.

post-accident, pre-Michael/no Michael:

Maybe in a universe where he gets away before he meets Laurie and Allyson and Michael, he packs a backpack full of clothes, rolls up a big wad of cash he's been hoarding and leaves in the middle of the night while Joan and Ronald are asleep. He takes a bus to Chicago and then a train to Montana or Colorado or Wyoming.

Maybe he gets a job at a horse stable. He doesn't know anything about horses, he's never even seen one in person before. But he mucks stalls and whatever other grunt work they give him and he learns how to ride after his shift is over. He's good with horses, he gets horses. Big, scary, powerful animals that are afraid of everything. They're fascinating.

Turns out he's got a knack for breaking horses that buck of that habit, so someone at work is like why don't you try this amateur bronc riding competition that's coming up? It's a pretty different skill but Corey's okay at it. It only takes him a couple of events to make it the full 8 seconds. The day he makes it, he's wearing a new hat. That's his lucky hat from then on, and it never lets him down.

post-Michael:

If Allyson left with him when he called and said 'we need to leave' I could totally see her going country with him. She would look so cute too, wow 🥺. But I think her presence would keep Corey more grounded and more normal, so I don't think his trajectory in this situation would be that much different.

However, survivor!Corey or a Corey that diverges from canon later than the phone call isn't gonna be mucking any fucking horse stalls, and he rides bulls, not broncs. The kind of targeted fury that drove his murder spree is gone, but he's still pissed the fuck off, he loves violence, and he hates himself.

He signs up for an amateur bull riding competition. They tell him he should practice on the mechanical first but he doesn't give a shit. He makes it the 8 seconds easily. When they give him his prize he just stands there glowering.

But the glower doesn't mean he doesn't like the attention. Corey loves the attention.

If this Corey isn't on the run from the cops, he's going pro, and he's like, a wrestling heel but for the rodeo. He wears all black, he always looks pissed, he never no scores - he wishes you had to stay on the bull for 10 seconds or 12 or 16. Some of the other cowboys think all the hype around him is blown out of proportion, but the ones who've actually spent any time with him, the ones who've seen his darkened eyes and eerie stillness as he mounts the bull before the gate opens, they know he's a scary motherfucker.

If he IS on the run from the law he's not going pro but I don't think he can stay away from the amateur competitions. He just registers with a fake name, wears a bandana over his nose and mouth like a bandit. It's easy money and it helps him get the violent impulses out.

Uhg can I stop getting fic ideas in my head when I have like 3 WIPs I haven't updated in months?

I think I need to type out the idea though, so it's out there in the world and maybe someone else can write it for me lol

Basically a 9-1-1 AU where Eddie joins the 126 in Austin instead of the 118, like just before they rebuild it, so him and Judd are the lone survivors who become part of Cap Strand's team. Obviously Eddie and Buck would meet during the crossover. But I think it would be interesting to have Eddie with the 126, especially since Cap Strand would have forced him into therapy like Judd before he was officially re-instated. Maybe Eddie would have gotten over a lot of his shit, like he's currently doing, but earlier. And he'd be in his home state possibly to humor his parents (idk how far el paso is from Austin though??) Just seems like a fun thought experiment, figuring out how and what would change from canon in both Austin and LA.

The First Spectre, Chapter 1: A Milk Run?

I know I said I wasn’t going to do this… but evidently I am. 

Title: The First Spectre, Chapter 1: A Milk Run?

Fandom: 911, Mass Effect Trilogy.  May also have some borrowed lore from extended Mass Effect Universe as I don’t keep Andromeda stuff segregated in my head. Will probably also be pulling some 911 Lonestar people in as 911 doesn’t have a big enough cast to cover all the roles. 

Pairing: EVENTUAL endgame Buddie but it’s going to be the slowest of slow burns (think somewhere in excess of 200k).  Will have Some Buck/Abby and Eddie/Shannon is at the beginning. Will also have eventual Madney, probably some slight Bathena and if I end up using LS characters will have Tarlos at the back end. 

Warnings: Will have canon deaths (and one or two that aren’t) but not Eddie, Buck, or Christopher.  I make no promises about anyone else but I’m sure people will be able to guess pretty quickly how certain missions are going to end. Fic is NOT finished and is promising to be a doozy on the word count end. I will be updating irregularly and my current long-fic priority is finishing FFO FIRST (2023 is it’s year damnit). 

Fic summary: 

Thirty years after the mars ruins were discovered leading to the Charon Relay and twenty since the First Contact War, humanity is still striving to take its place amongst the Citadel Council as equals. Commander Evan “Buck” Buckley, the lone survivor of Akuze is nominated to become the first human Spectre.

When his test mission goes sideways, Buck uncovers a much larger threat against all sentient life. Can he convince the Council to prepare for war or will they ignore the dangers that are closing in?

A new cycle has begun. The Reapers are coming.

I saw something about you deciding to stop writing it but then I also thought I saw more recent posts referencing it with previews etc. I can't tell if you've written a hundred thousand words haven't even finished a second chapter.

Hi there! 😄 Ahhh okay first off, it makes me SO happy to know that you're looking forward to the fic enough to ask about it, since that's been one of my biggest insecurities about it since the beginning. To answer your question, yes, I am definitely still writing the Survivor fic and absolutely intend on finishing it! It's just taking a long time because of a variety of factors — the primary one being that it's my baby and I want it to be good, the second of which being that it's LONG AF and what I have written has gone through a lot of changes since I first put pen to paper.

The 100k words I mentioned in the trailer have been written and still exist, and they span up until about the merge! But they were written in 2020 when the season 3 finale of OG was the most recent episode we had to go off of, and clearly we've learned a LOT more about the characters since then, and a lot more have been introduced, and I want to be able to add all that extra information into the story. Also, the original plan was to have a mix of OG/Lone Star people on the cast, but in the time since I made that trailer, I've kind of fallen out of love with Lone Star, to the point that I was having trouble finding the motivation to write scenes from those characters' POVs. So I changed everything up and updated the cast to just include OG 9-1-1 characters, which I've been much happier with. The problem is that since those 100k words included a lot of scenes with Lone Star characters, I've been having to best-case adapt them, worst-case completely re-write them to be from the POV of the new characters. I've actually had to completely change up the tribal dynamics of the first few "episodes" to make them make sense with how the new cast would realistically align. The boot order I originally had in mind is pretty different now too. Editing has also been a time-consuming process because I'm a much better writer now than when I wrote those first 100k words, so a lot has been added/changed. And there's still like the entire merge portion of the game I still have yet to write 😓

On top of all that, I think the biggest thing contributing to to the long timetable is that it's not just a story about Buck and Eddie — I want to tell the complete story of the game and give everyone a complete character arc, which obviously makes the word count a lot higher than if it were just a one-shot centered around Buddie. There's also the fact that now I'm also in the process of writing 3 other Buddie reality TV fics, so the Survivor one isn't my only focus. So in short, I don't know how long it'll take to finish the story, but it IS something I'm still actively working on and am very excited about! I'm hoping with Survivor starting up again, I'll be re-inspired to write a lot more!
