Ray have you read Dungeon Reset? I don't usually like isekai/dungeon stories but this one is so damn funny
Basically it's the story of this guy who gets summoned with a bunch of other people into a world of dungeons and because of a trap he remains blocked into the very first dungeon all alone when the dungeon resets after the rest of the party has cleared the boss to pass to the second stage, and from that point onwards he's considered as a "bug" in the system and gets a bunch of skills as time goes on and he does his best to survive
It has some very cool moments but it's also kinda goofy and the MC is so funny throughout the story, I'm only on chapter 59 out of the 195 that are out so far and I have no idea if it's finished or not (I'm pretty sure I checked before starting it but I don't remember) and I can't stop reading it, I highly recommend it
ohhh nice!!

alright, i just got around to finishing Dungeon Meshi- and damn if it didn't stick the landing!
there's a lot to recommend in this manga. first- it's extraordinarily fucking funny. it does not forget that it's a comic, and consistently has great visual gags even when something deeply fucked up and serious is happening.
Tumblr media
and it fires on all other cylinders, too- the character designs are great, the worldbuilding is intricate and believable and does a lot of interesting things with standard fantasy tropes, the main cast is likable and has a great dynamic, the story keeps a lot of plates spinning without getting up its own ass or forgetting the details...
but the thing that really impresses me about Dungeon Meshi- the thing that sticks out as something it does uniquely well- is the theming.
Dungeon Meshi is about hunger and eating. it is about those things, hardcore. just about every plot point and every character dynamic is about that theme, approached from a dazzling array of different angles. it's got plenty to say about like, actual food and cooking, sure- but it also gets into the nature of desire, the cycle of predation, differing personal tastes, taking the other into oneself, satiation vs motivation... it makes sure that every development in the story is grounded in and building on that theme somehow.
Food is not a gimmick- Food is what the story is about, and not as a bit. this isn't a silly food-world full of food-creatures and food-magic- this is a normal, well-developed fantasy setting, in which a story is being told that focuses relentlessly on the relationship of the characters to food and eating. it manages to feel completely natural, even with so much going on that you'd think the food thing would get in the way. it doesn't get in the way. the story was designed around it, down to the smallest detail.
i think it might be a 10/10 manga! it does everything it sets out to do, completely successfully, with a ton of humor and charm. well-paced, well-drawn, well-written, good ending- i can't think of anything to complain about. highly recommended.

KYLAR!!!!!!! READ THIS RNRNRNRNRNRNRNRNRNRNRNRNR!!!!
(^ if it didn't link this is the link JJddjkdsksk
...i think i couldn't send it off anon which would RUIN my secrecy)
the second link worked, thanks. i had the time to sneak off and read it, and... fuck. why would you send this now... how do you expect me to go about the rest of the day thinking about that without trying to get my love to reenact it with me..!
i can use some of the lines from that doujin on them! i want tell them that they're so, so good for me, that they're taking my cock so well... praise them for how cute they are when they're so lewd like that. so lewd for me. tell them about how long i've been waiting to have them like this... how many times i've watched them from afar, waiting to truly make them mine...
i need to breed my darling now. i need to feel them around my cock... so warm around me... i haven't gotten there yet with them, they won't let me yet, but...
maybe they'd like it if i used something on myself. aphrodisiacs. just so that i lose control around them and fuck them hard just like i know they want me to..! just like in this manga... maybe they're just being held back by social norms, and all they need is for me to step in and take them by force. since all they really want is for me to fill them again, and again, and again, until they can't take it... i know they want it.
maybe i could simulate them going into heat instead? i could just take some aphrodisiacs from my lab, sneak them into their food, then... fuck. then they'll beg for me to take them. they'll whine for me, look at me with their cute, pleading eyes, drooling while they beg for my cock in their aching hole... i won't even have to prepare them, that way. i just know they'll just be so ready, so wet for me, so needy, i... fffuck.
...i think i might have some plans after school today, after all.

Shared this on Twitter not too long ago only to realize that this is probably a better place for these types of posts? XD Anyways. Recently read Usotoki Rhetoric vol. 6, and continue to love this series—in particular, I find that the character acting/physical comedy often makes me laugh out loud. FOR INSTANCE: the above gag of Kanoko repeatedly throwing herself out from her shrub hiding places to question the staff at an inn. So delightful, highly recommend checking this series out. :D

Top Ten Manga
It’s been a minute since I last uploaded a top ten of any kind, Grad school will do that to you. However, now with my studies almost over I thought I would revisit my top ten manga and see what new titles have amazed me!
-Note I am not including Webcomics so if you want Manhwa and the like let me know and I will make a separate list.
10. Sakamoto Days
Tumblr media
Starting off with a bang we have Sakamoto Days. In a world of assassins even a mild mannered fat store clerk could be a tough challenge. That is definitely true for Sakamoto the former top assassin in Japan. Watch as Sakamoto is targeted by Esper's, Triad members, and old friends as he battles to protect his home and his daughter. It’s a fantastic read and great for the action lover and comedian a like.
9. Claymore
Tumblr media
Claymore tells the tale of an elite class of women tasked to fight off monsters who plague the land. Clair the last member of this group must protect the peace, her new friend Rakka, and her self. However, dark secrets lurk in this world and the shadowy organization that dispatches the Claymores may not be as kind as they appear.
8. A Story about a Droid
Tumblr media
I debated about including this because it is such a short read. But it is also a very good and cute read. This story is about a droid who finds a baby and decides to take care of him. In order to care for the child the droid puts on a human disguise. The story follows the droid and her child as she raises him in a post apocalyptic world.
7. Berserk
Tumblr media
RIP Muria I will always be heartbroken that you passed before finishing this wonder of a story. This manga has always been one of my favorites and for good reason. The art is fantastic, the story is gripping, and the characters are dynamic. However, this manga is shocking, cruel, and depressing- not for the faint of heart.
6. Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki Kun
Tumblr media
Monthly Girls Nozaki is the tale of a girl in love. Chiyo has been in love with Nozaki for a while and she finally decides that she has had enough. Working up the courage she confesses to him, only for him to give her an autograph. Turns out her class mate is world famous in the realm of shoujo manga and has never been in love. Chiyo’s confession goes right over his head leaving her dumbfounded but not hopeless. This manga is a great romantic comedy including some of my favorite characters in fiction. Definitely worth a read if you want to laugh a night away.
5. Dungeon Meshi
Tumblr media
Have you ever been playing DnD and been like “hmmm I wonder what a Mimic tastes like?” If so I have the manga for you! Dungeon Meshi or delicious in dungeon follows a group of adventures as they venture into a dungeon to save the main character Laos’s sister. However, with no supplies they are forced to eat their way through to survive, much to the disdain of the party except for Laos he loves it.
4. Sousou No Frienen
Tumblr media
We all know elves live a long time but sometimes it doesn’t hit an elf until they have seen their old comrades fade away. Frenen is old even and has wandered the world in search of rare magic, and I mean rare not necessarily useful. Only after being recruited to aid the hero’s party and defeating the demon king does she come to realize that human relationships are complex and that time is fleeting. This is a great fantasy manga with great magic and quirky characters as I write this I am rereading the manga for the fourth time.
3. Yotsubato!
Tumblr media
Man aren’t five year old's hectic little animals?! Yotsuba is a young girl in a new neighborhood who isn’t afraid to wander off, get into trouble, or of anything except for maybe scary statues. This manga follows her life with her dad living every day to the fullest. If you are feeling down this is a great pick me up. I reread during finals and it really helped.
2. Tongari Boss/ Witch Hat Alter
Tumblr media
Witches are born with the ability to use magic and normal people aren’t. At least that’s what they say but what happens when a young girl gets a glimpse at the secret of magic. What if the reason magic is solely for witches because of the great danger magic can place not only yourself but the world in. Witch hat alter is one of the best fantasy manga out there right now and I want the next chapter to come out already!!!
1. Chainsaw Man
Tumblr media
I remember the conversation that led me to read chainsaw man years ago. It went something like
“Hey dude you should totally read this manga it’s badass!”
“Really? What’s it about?”
Insert a few seconds of silence
“Well.. It’s about a dude who turns into a chainsaw and kills devils”
“That’s insane”
“Trust me it’s sooo good you have to try it! It has a section where he rides a shark into battle while on fire!”
And with that fateful line I decided to give it a read. All I can say is thank you for telling me to read it because I love this manga. It is so funny, and crazy, and sad, and mind bending, and so many other things. I never thought a story about a dude who literally has a chainsaw growing out of his face would make me cry but life works in funny ways.
Well that’s my list. I hope you find some of these recommendations helpful. If you have any questions, or want more let me know!! Have a great Summer!

LGBTQ Manga Review - Sirius: Twin Stars
A Bright Star of Yuri with Meaningful Symbolism and Incredible, Dramatic Characters
Tumblr media
Sirius: Twin Stars is the second manga from Spanish Yuri artist Ana C. Sánchez. As with Alter Ego, her previous work, Tokyopop publishes it in English under its LOVE x LOVE and International Women of Manga line. Similarly to Alter Ego, this oneshot tells a dramatic, if somewhat contrived, romance between two young women with surprising depth and artistic merit. And yet, as long as we are compare the two, I find I enjoy Sirius far more than its predecessor. The manga improves on Alter Ego in almost every way, from the characters and their connection to its pacing and artwork. And considering that Alter Ego is not by any means a low-quality manga, I awarded it a six out of ten, after all, the comparison further cements Sirius’ quality.
Sirius begins as Dani, a teenage or very young adult tennis prodigy and daughter of a former champion, is relocated to her family’s villa by the sea to recover after an as-of-yet unspecified tragedy. As they drive along the shore, Dani catches sight of a beautiful and bright woman carrying a telescope, Blanca.
Tumblr media
These opening panels are some of the best in the manga, establishing Dani’s early determination and drive to become a tennis legend like her mother, the collapse of that “unattainable childhood ideal,” and the surly cynicism that has overtaken the once exuberant girl. Her gaze, narrowed and turned downward, is contrasted wonderfully by Blanca’s joyful and open observance of the beach and beautiful blue sky. Although they have yet to meet, the dynamic between the two main characters and the inevitable struggle between their optimistic and shattered worldview is immediately apparent, setting the stage for their relationship.
A few pages of this introduction depict a surreal and imaginative scene drenched in symbolism, its meaning becoming clearer throughout the story. As a figure of Dani walks a narrow, crocked yet direct path towards her goal, a distant conflux of light that dominates her focus, the road behind her starts to crumble, signifying both the degrading relationship she and her mother and coach had throughout her career and Dani’s loss of innocence and passion that occurred before events of the story. As the figure looks back and realizes the path behind her is crumbling, the way forward similarly decays, leaving her isolated, suspended over a pit of “monsters.” The figure stands there with no way forward toward her lost dream, no route of return to the idyllic days before she lost her luster and her relationship with her mother, and no escape from the lonely solitude, a lone trapped figure.
Tumblr media
The full story of what happened with Dani is revealed slowly throughout the manga. Through visuals, dialogue, and narration Sánchez allude to the full story of Dani’s fall from grace in the tennis world and the falling out she had with her mother before the manga’s start. Early moments like Dani’s panic attack at seeing her old tennis racket plant pieces of the larger story, hinting at the truth.
These seeds help readers develop a picture and narrative of these events, which gradually expand thanks to later sequences like a nightmare from Dani and more grounded and reliable flashbacks. By the time Dani reveals her entire, unedited backstory, many aspects of which I have danced around, as readers really should experience it for themselves, it feels like a satisfying confirmation, verifying the chronology we have primarily constructed ourselves and slotting it into its greater context in the story and Dani’s psyche. It is a wonderfully paced and enthralling story that makes excellent use of the relatively oneshot’s limited page counts and actively involves readers in Dani’s journey and recovery. While the romance plot is as evident as any Yuri story, the personal, character-driven plot forges a strong connection with its subject, creating a hunger for answers and resolution that quickly engages readers.
Tumblr media
The other subject of Sirius, Blanca, is a foil to Dani. Her natural charm and brightness make her the perfect subject to counteract Dani’s sullen and traumatized demeanor. She is an enthusiastic stargazer, and her unrelenting devotion to it mirrors Dani’s former tennis goals. As the story progresses and the two girls develop an unlikely relationship and romance,
Blanca’s fiery fascination with astronomy affects Dani deeply. The broken young woman becomes enchanted by her friend’s motivation. She slowly starts to open up to these feelings of excitement again and starts having romantic feelings for Blanca, the star who can save her and repair the broken pieces of her dream.
Tumblr media
However, Blanca starts to experience doubt and guilt caused by her confused feelings for Dani. Upon discovering the truth of Dani’s past, Blanca believes herself culpable for the former’s pain, regretting sharing her aspiration so enthusiastically with the girl who had lost hers. It leads to her withdrawing from Dani and lashing out against her sister.
Although the latter developments feel somewhat less earned, as Blanca’s fight with her sister feels sudden, forced into the story only to poorly reflect Dani and her mother, her guilt is much more understandable. The rift it creates between her and Dani effectively moves the story along and is one of the first of many parts of Dani that begin to heal, as it leads to a confrontation between the two of them in which Blanca can refute Dani’s view of herself and promises to accompany her as she recovers the “light” she lost.
Tumblr media
The relationship between Blanca and Dani is incredibly impactful. Sánchez does a stunning job displaying and justifying both girls’ personalities, and it sells their eventual romance and Dani’s journey of growth and healing. These two aspects of the manga are so intertwined that it feels impossible to separate them. Neither the Yuri nor character aspects work without the other.
Tumblr media
Although Sirius is forthright with its characters and stories, it allows for plenty of analysis and contemplation thanks to its reliance on symbolism. Several motifs appear throughout, such as Dani’s phone, symbolizing the potential for mending her psychological wounds, and the sky, which stands for the characters’ passion.
Chief among these symbols is the titular Sirius, two stars linked together by gravity. The manga frequently and blatantly references the binary star in relation to the manga’s main characters. Sirius is easily the least subtle of the symbols, as the girls openly reference each other’s “light” and refer to each other as stars pulled together. However, the presence and prominence of the stars and other symbols help lend further gravity (pardon the pun) to the story's events. The allusion to fated lovers as shining light help legitimize the heightened emotions depicted that would otherwise come off as melodramatic and lend it a more complex, artistic status. It is this very factor that spurred my analysis in the form of this review.
Sirius’s artwork furthers the many excellent aspects of its story. As with the earlier described scene from the introduction, several moments of more stylized and imaginative imagery exist throughout the manga. While none rise to the level of those initial pages, they assist in communicating the character’s dramatic and overwhelming emotions in crucial segments.
Tumblr media
Sánchez also employs incredible utilization of contrast in everything from the individual stages to the character designs. Dani has black hair that reflects her inner darkness and is often drawn in shadow, while Blanca is the opposite, incorporating brighter tones and often a sparkling, shining aurora of brightness around her, which helps to illuminate and spread to Dani as she is captivated by Blanca.
Some of the manga’s best scenes incorporate this use of brightness, such as a pivotal discussion between the girls during which they move from shadowed darkness into blinding light that washes out the girls and the scenery around them. It is also effectively employed in Sánchez’s illustrations of the sky, both in the day’s rippling circlets of sunshine and the night’s illustrious blanket of stars.
Tumblr media
On the note of character designs, I criticized Alter Ego for making its characters, who are in their early-to-mid twenties, look like teenagers. However, Sánchez’s style is more suited to its teenage subjects in Sirius. And the illustrations depicting adults, including a time skip epilogue at the manga’s conclusion, are much more appropriately proportioned and constructed than in her previous work.
Lastly, I have to praise the manga’s colored illustrations. Sánchez got her start in the traditionally full-color webcomic space, and her proficiency shows. Although Sirius is, like most manga, illustrated mainly in black and white, and as previously mentioned, masterfully employs tone and contrasting shades, the colorful introduction and cover art are astounding. I wish this entire story was rendered similarly; it is just that good.
Despite my love for Sirius' story, characters, and presentation, a few faults stuck out to me. First, a few events feel forced or confounded, particularly in the early story. For example, when Dani first meets Blanca face-to-face, she appears drunk and aggressive. While their fight here, which ends with Dani collapsing and Blanca revealing her authentic tender and concerned nature, progresses naturally to later developments between the two, it feels unnecessary. It results in our first impression of Blanca being wholly negative.
Tumblr media
I am inclined to believe the story acknowledges this fault, as it has to scramble to justify and undo this initial encounter, later revealing that Blanca’s “friends” spiked her drink. But, this does little to contribute to Blanca’s character and ensures that the short oneshot has to waste time undoing these actions.
Furthermore, although the romance and Dani’s growth evolve naturally and profoundly, there is little change in Blanca’s character. Although her battle with guilt over Dani is well written, it does not change her character in the long term, and the sudden argument with her sister feels like a last-ditch effort to add stakes to her character via strained logic and events.
If the author had leaned into some aspects of Blanca’s character a little more, her story would feel complete. She establishes that she and her sister are darting between different towns each week of their Summer. This fact provides excellent ground to have her express a reluctance to attachment, a preference for keeping her head among the stars rather than forging lasting bounds to others on Earth, until she meets Dani, of course. The scene with Blanca and her “friends” could even have been twisted to support this, as she barely knows them, and if one of them had injured Dani instead of her, the guilt and shock she feels could lend credence to her caution of others.
Furthermore, a side fling between Blanca’s sister and Dani’s cousin and guardian, Alex, adds exceptionally little to the story. Their presence is little more than an unnecessary distraction. Apart from one of the scattered interactions between Dani and Alex, in which he gives her some love advice, neither character contributes much to the manga.
Lastly, although the lettering is overall fantastic, especially for sound effects, there were several occasions where “multi-bubbles” employed for speech and narrations were separated and vertically misaligned in such a way that it interrupted the flow of reading. I often had to consider what I should read first, thrusting me out of the story.
Tumblr media
irius is a beautiful and complex romance. Despite an often obvious storyline and a few too many coincidences, it shines as a bright and dramatic account of love and healing. The more I reread and contemplated the shining manga, the more there was to enjoy and analyze. While I could easily keep this review going for twice its already excessive length as I lovingly examine its many details and gush over its excellent artwork, I want to ensure that readers have something left to discover for themselves when they go read this book, which I highly encourage them to do. So please do yourself a favor and let gravity pull you towards this bright star of Yuri.

Ace Week Post: Is Love the Answer by Uta Isaki
Happy Ace Week Everyone! I was able to get this post in somewhere because life has been a rush but I wanted to talk about one of my favorite and most direct aspec manga, Is Love the Answer by Uta Isaki.
There isn't much to talk about this time since the story is about the protagonist discovering that they are aromantic and asexual and that research makes up a majority of the 6 chapters.
I earnestly recommend the manga to anyone who is thinking they may be aspec or even need a little bit of encouragement in embracing their identity. It helped me a lot during a depressive time and it reminded me that it was ok to be aspec even when I felt like I couldn't talk to anyone.

My Lesbian Experience With Loneliness by Kabi Nagata
As you might know I am really into graphic novels, but I don't really read any manga. I have never really been drawn to the art style, so it's not a type of read I usually even look for. I had heard a lot about this book when it was first translated into Italian, and when I randomly found it in a bookstore I had to get it. I am actively trying to get more queer books onto my shelves, and this was an amazing addition. I ended up reading it in one sitting, and it got me very emotional multiple times. The focus point of this manga is the personal experience of the author who got to 28 years old without having any kind of relationships, and for this reason she decides to have her first time with a sex worker. In actual fact the book is about much much more. The author presents herself in total honesty and shows so much vulnerability addressing her problems with depression, anxiety and eating disorders. She is very open about how these things affected her, as well as her repression of the idea of sex in general, not only due to her queerness. The latter point as well as the depression and loneliness talk is what really got me. I had to hold back tears so often I am almost embarassed to say. You can tell how open heartedly the author was writing her story, she is incredibly honest about her thoughts and her fears, she just lays it all in front of you. I appreciated that a lot. I think this manga can be a great addition to your shelves, I will reread it for certain, and I will be looking for the other book the author published on the topic of her queerness. This book also confirms that even though I am normally not a big memoir reader if it's in manga/graphic novel form I will love it. I don't know what it's about graphic versions of memoirs and biographies but I adore them.
I read this book for the own voices prompt of the jumbo reading challenge.

7th Time Loop: The Villainess Enjoys a Carefree Life Married to Her Worst Enemy!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Alright guys, light novel/manga recommendation time! I don’t do this often (or at all really) but when I do, it’s because I’m very passionate about it. 😤
WARNING: Not spoiler free. Using images from both the light novel and manga.
There’s been a trend of “villainous” anime/manga being released recently, and while I love them and they all have their personal charms, this one takes the cake for me.
Tumblr media
Our main lead is Rishe, who returns to the moment her fiancé breaks their engagement each time she dies, and she has been inevitably dying at the age of 20 in every iteration. She retains her memories and skills, with the exception of her strength and stamina. Our story is set in her 7th cycle.
Rishe is determined to make the most of her life each time with the goal of prolonging her life if possible. As she searches for the quickest exit after her break up, she runs into our male lead, Arnold Hein. Who happens to also be her killer in her 6th life as a knight.
Tumblr media
And you know what he does? He proposes to her (for reasons).
Tumblr media
Rishe knows fully well that the smallest actions can change the course of her life drastically, so she ends up accepting knowing that she’ll never open up this path again. In every cycle, her death has been related to the war Arnold Hein wages in five years. Perhaps as his fiancée/wife this time, she’ll be able to prevent the war and live beyond 20 years of age.
Cue one of the cutest love story ever. I am a sucker for “cold” characters having a soft spot for the love of their life, and this is no exception. Plus, you add Rishe with a skill level of 999 facing off with the most formidable man in the world, trying to out play her soon-to-be-husband, and he let’s her. He let’s her scheme her schemes with the condition that she keeps herself safe. And he is smitten.
Tumblr media
Our two leads are so likable and the premise, despite having several tropes involved, has a good bit of originality in it. I like having my fair share of female/male leads having heaps of flaws, but these two do not (for good reasons), which could be seen as a con but not for me in this scenario. Rishe is a very headstrong character that is determined to live her life the way she wants to, and Arnold supports her through and through. Their mutual respect and intrinsic trust in each other is what makes their dynamic so wonderful.
Also:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And:
Tumblr media
These two having me swooning. Plus, the art for both the light novel and manga is gorgeous. I’ve heard they might be doing an anime adaptation??? Can’t wait. 10/10 recommend!!!
(Okay, my one complaint is I’m unsure if Touka Amekawa is still writing this? Says there are 4 volumes but the 4th was released in November 2021 in Japan and it’s listed as ongoing. Does anyone know anything about this?)

The Broken Ring : This Marriage Will Fail Anyway
When six-year-old Inés laid eyes on the handsome heir to House Escalante, she promptly made the boy her fiancé. Since noble men are all the same, she figured she might as well choose a pretty one. But Lord Cárcel isn't ready for this sort of commitment just yet, and he spends the next decade and a half avoiding the marriage at all costs! Luckily, that's no trouble for Inés, as this marriage failing is exactly what she wants. In fact, he has her blessing to sow his wild oats as long as he stays out of her business. Unfortunately, being a playboy isn't as fun when your fiancée gives you permission. And doesn't this mean she's cheating on him too? Now, Cárcel is determined to change Inés' mind about him and prove he can be the husband she's always wanted.
