The thing with the Madrigals is not that they wouldn't listen to each other, but that they wouldn't say the things that needed to be listened to in the first place. If Isabela had said "Mariano is nice and everything, but I don't want to marry him, but I think Dolores does want to marry him, so can she switch with me," the family would have accepted that. If Luisa had said, "I'm feeling very overwhelmed by all the things I have to do, so can I maybe take a break once in a while," the family would have accepted that. If Mirabel had said, "I know I don't have a gift, but I think I've outgrown the nursery, and I really want my own room," the family would have found a room for her. The issue is that none of them felt they could say those things, which is a different issue altogether.

The second wip of the Reincarnation AU series; Isabela’s death.
Featuring another sketch at the end.
Time skip of fourteen years. What happened between Mirabel and Isabela’s deaths? You’ll never know.
Comments are always appreciated.
Warning, sensitive topics below: murder and character death.
~~~~~~
So Much Hides Behind My Smile
“Knock, knock? Mi flor? Are you in there?” Someone asks, opening the door.
Isabela is sat at her vanity, carefully taking out the flowers she’d woven into her hair that morning. From the mirror’s reflection, she can see Milagro stood in the doorway, her family going about minding their own business just behind.
It had been a busy day, of course. Her perfect, albeit long awaited, wedding.
“Of course, mi vida. Did you need something?”
“I just came to see you,” he answered, shutting the door behind him. He laughed, walking over to her, just about to set a hand on her shoulder. “Well, it’s been a long day but we’ve finally made it to the wedding night—”
“Get the fuck out of my room.” Isabela snarls.
Milagro blanks for a minute. “Um… where else am I meant to sleep?”
“I don’t care. It’s not my problem.” She seethes, turning back to the mirror.
“In case the rest of the day didn’t clue you in, mi flor, we are unfortunately husband and wife now. It very much is your problem. And from what I understand, the sooner you have a baby, the happier your Abuela will be. Which you’ll have a hard time achieving if you don’t want me here.”
“If you so much as touch my shoulder, I will rip your penis off and feed it to my carnivorous plants.”
Neither says anything more.
But it takes exactly two seconds for them to act.
Milagro goes to charge his entire body into hers but is yanked onto the floor by throned vines, as Isabela throws herself straight onto him.
“How dare you treat me like this!?”
“How dare you!? This is my room and don’t you forget it!”
“Just because you’re a Madrigal doesn’t mean you can get away with everything, princesa!”
They scratch and hiss and hit like wild jaguars, fighting over the last scrap of meat.
It just keeps going.
Not only does he deserve it and worse, she can let out all the steam that’s been building inside her.
~~~~~~
“A perfect match,” Alma hummed, as Bruno poured them all another round of wine. “Isabela deserves the best and that is what she has. They will both bring so much good to the Encanto.”
“I can’t believe it. Where has the time gone?” Bruno added.
Pepa nodded, still drying her hair. “It feels like just yesterday Isabela was born and now she’s married and going to have babies of her own.”
“That will be our Lolita soon,” Félix smiled.
“I’m too young to have grandchildren! We’re too young to have grandchildren! No offence, Mama.”
Alma was in too good a mood to even remotely care.
“Is it really Dolores’ wedding next?” Bruno asked, teasing. “Because I had a little peek into the future and I saw—”
“NO! DON’T YOU DARE RUIN IT! I DON’T WANT TO KNOW!” Pepa shrieked.
Bruno held his hands up in surrender as his sister began a play fight with him, Félix laughed riotously.
“Hey, I was only kidding!”
“Well, I don’t believe you!”
Alma chuckled too, before getting up. “I am going to check on Julieta and Agustín.”
“You do that,” Félix said. “I’ll keep an eye on these two.”
The rest of the grandkids, all of whom were drunk, were out in the courtyard, hyper as anything.
Camilo, Antonio and a variety of animals were dancing while Dolores played some lively tune on her bandola; Luisa singing a completely different song over the top.
Honestly, you wouldn’t know they were adults.
On any other day, she would probably have scolded them and sent them to bed. For now though, she is happy enough to just leave them. They aren’t hurting anyone or causing any trouble, to be fair.
Agustín and Julieta were sat quietly in another room, without the wine. Julieta has been in an odd state for the past few years with seemingly new cure, and Agustín has always preferred to keep some distance from his mother-in-law when he can help it.
But they should be together right now. This is Isabela’s day and they have all been her biggest supporters.
“They certainly make the happy couple,” Alma said, taking a seat beside them.
“Indeed.” Agustín agrees. “I had my doubts about this match, but I’m glad that I’ve been proved wrong.”
“So long as my girls are happy, then I’m happy.” Julieta declares.
“Well, mija, I can attest that Luisa is definitely happy.” She paused, trying to get the pair to hear the carryon happening outside. “And trying to make herself a soprano, apparently.”
After some wonky, forced long note from Luisa, they broke into laughter.
“It’s nice to see the kids are still enjoying life and spending time together,” Agustín remarked, smiling fondly.
Julieta’s smile drops.
“Not all of them.”
~~~~~~
Long after Milagro is gone and her temper has cooled, Isabela heads downstairs.
It’s late now.
The rest of the family is in bed. Or at least in their rooms.
She doesn’t know where Milagro went after she kicked him out, probably the guest bedroom, but she doesn’t care enough to check. He can sleep outside for all she cares.
She heard some footsteps on the way to the kitchen, but brushed them off.
One of Antonio’s animals, no doubt.
In the kitchen, she makes her way over to the coffee pot. It’s half full, just needs to be reheated - no doubt Luisa has beaten her to their usual midnight drinks.
Casita takes over, sliding her signature cup along to her.
“What do you think of all this, Casita?”
A few tiles clink.
“Mirabel? I’d be lectured for at least two hours about failed marriages in history or something if she was still alive.” Isabela glanced to the side. “Can’t imagine how she’d take this… knowing I just went back.”
More clinking.
“Well, what was I meant to do? I couldn’t say no.”
A cupboard smacks her shoulder, lightly.
She chuckled. Taking off the wedding ring.
“Haha, good point. You know, I always thought getting out of the Guzmán engagement would make me happy, and now I’m about two seconds away from committing murder.”
The beams squeak supportively.
“It’s nice to know someone’s got my back.”
The coffee pot, ready, is tilted over Isabela’s cup, filling it to the brim.
“Maybe I’ll let it happen. Let the family see he’s awful and then I’ll be free.”
It smells as good as usual, there’s an underlying hint of something that isn’t coffee though. She shrugs, and drinks it anyways.
Luisa’s been drunk since the ceremony ended, who knows what she’s put in here since. It’s probably alcohol - that she’s added in some spark of creativity. And Isabela isn’t too against the idea of alcohol in her coffee at all - it’s an idea she’ll try later, when she isn’t about to go to bed.
It doesn’t taste any different though.
She lets Casita dispose of the ring.
She returns to her room steadily, not paying much attention to the beautiful decorations that have been hanging since this morning.
It’s one of the odd times where she wasn’t the one to decorate Casita in her flora - it was her day. Abuela had made it very clear that she didn’t want Isabela to lift a finger.
She never really got a chance to admire them this morning either. She’s spent most of the day outside of Casita and when they have been home, she was in her room, getting ready with Dolores, her maid of honour.
Ah well.
They will still be there tomorrow.
All that matters now is that she’s alone, out of that hideous wedding dress and can sleep off her frustration with a drink.
She doesn’t bother switching on the light, just clambers into bed and setting the cup on her bedside table.
The café con leche is as inviting as always.
Tumblr media
[Note reads, not in Isabela’s handwriting:
Dear family,
This is not about you, this is about me. I can’t cope with the pressure of being the perfect Madrigal any longer. I was not made to be a wife and mother - my most sincere apologies to Milagro, mi vida. I tried. You should not blame yourselves. I hope whatever is is next is better than this.
— Isabela]
always the bridesmaid | rúben dias
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
💐synopsis: This is Elena’s 5th time being a bridesmaid. She considers herself a professional now, and knows all the important bridesmaid rules, like: throw a perfect bachelorette party, always have tissues and lipstick ready, never overshadow the bride, and last but not least: stay away from the groomsmen. warnings: mostly fluff, flirting and a tiny bit of smut. also alcohol consumption (W.C. 4k)
Always The Bridesmaid
At first, it was her older sister, Elisa, who got married in January, in a freezing cold winter wedding. Elena wore an elegant blue velvet dress. Then, in the spring, it was her cousin Luisa's turn to tie the knot. Elena wore yellow. Now, it’s Ines, her childhood best friend, who’s standing in front of her, as she tries on an olive green silk dress.
“It looks perfect on you!” Ines gleams, her big doe eyes focused on the fabric. They seem to be shining brighter everyday as the wedding day gets closer.
It’s Elena’s third wedding this year. Her fifth as a bridesmaid. She feels like a professional now, and you bet this is a hell of a job. Dress fittings, bridal shower, bachelorette party, rehearsal dinner… All of that while the protagonist of the show is probably freaking out. And it’s the bridesmaid job to make sure it all goes smoothly.
For Elena, a personal rule she created was to stay away from men during the event, especially the single groomsmen who acted like it was a big call of destiny the fact that they were both single at a wedding—and also the perfect chance to get laid. It wasn’t.
Elena had a job, she couldn’t afford distractions. She needed tissues and lipstick ready at all times. She had to make sure the bride was enjoying the party. She had to make sure guests wouldn't kill each other over a bouquet.
“Ivory or Pearl?” Ines is holding two pairs of Dior shoes, one on each side of her head.
Elena thinks they look identical, but it’s important to have an opinion. “Ivory!” She says, not knowing which one it is.
Ines seemed to be happy with her decision, now holding only one pair, gently nodding at the shoes.
“Alright, Ivory it is. This is it.” The blonde looks up to her friend. “These are the shoes I’m getting married with.” Ines has a big smile on her face, but Elena catches the glimpse of anxiety reaching her eyes.
“You’re going to look perfect, cutie.” Elena hugs her friend tightly. “You always looked like a princess, and now with the pregnancy glow you’re even prettier!”
“You think so? I’m so worried about it…”
“It’s not just me! Everybody I speak with is commenting, you’re the prettiest mom-to-be in the world. Relax, everything will be perfect, trust me.”
Elena manages to soothe the worries away for the time being. The next time she sees that look on her friend's face, they’re in Miami, after the bachelorette party.
They’re in a spacious and luxurious hotel room, most of their friends passed out around them. Some on the bed, some on the sofa, Mariana, the sister’s bride, is passed out in an armchair. Elena and Ines are the only ones still awake, the only ones that didn’t consume a drop of alcohol that night.
“Please,” Ines speaks softly, trying not to disturb the others, and Elena becomes worried for a second. “promise me you will have fun at my wedding.”
Elena giggles, not understanding the extent of Ines concerns.
“Of course, you don’t have to ask!”
They’re wearing almost identical pink bathrobes, with the only difference being the embroidery specifying who’s the bride.
“I’m serious, please. It doesn't make sense for me to have all this work throwing a perfect party if my friends are not enjoying themselves. You didn’t even drink today!”
“That’s because…” But Elena doesn't have an excuse that would satisfy her friend, she knows it, so she goes quiet, staring once again at the exhausted sleeping bodies of their girlfriends, some still with their makeup on. Glittery dresses and heels still by their sides.
“The entire point of the ceremony is to be a celebration of love. You need to celebrate with me, girl.”
Elena giggles again, this time shyly.
“Okay, I will. Promise.”
The big day arrived in the blink of an eye. A sunny Saturday. Elena stood at the edge of the sprawling vineyard estate, her eyes drinking in the sight of rows upon rows of lush grapevines that stretched as far as the eye could see. The warm Portuguese sun bathed the landscape in a golden glow, casting long shadows that danced playfully across the ground. She took a deep breath, the scent of earth and grapes mingling in the air, and smiled to herself. Ines had truly outdone herself with the venue choice.
She adjusted the thin strap of her previous mentioned olive green silk sundress, her fingers grazing the pendant at her neck as she glanced around. The pre-wedding festivities were in full swing, with guests mingling and laughter echoing through the air. Elena knew she should be socializing, but she found herself lost in her thoughts, the hum of excitement around her fading into the background.
A loud crash jolted her from her trance, and she turned toward the source of the commotion. A waiter stood beside a shattered tray of champagne flutes, his expression a mix of embarrassment and frustration. And there, amidst the wreckage, stood a man in a perfectly tailored suit, his hand outstretched toward the fallen glasses.
Rúben Dias.
Elena didn't know him in person yet, but she had seen enough photos to recognize Ines’ fiancé's coworker – and one of the groomsmen. He was tall, with a disheveled charm that contrasted sharply with his crisp attire. His hair was casually tousled, as if he had been running his fingers through it, and his mischievous grin suggested that he was well-acquainted with trouble.
She watched as he exchanged a few words with the flustered waiter, he looks shy but has an easy going demeanor that diffuses the tension in the air. As he crouched down to help gather the broken glass, his eyes met Elena's. There was a brief pause, as if time had frozen, and Elena felt a flutter in her chest that she couldn't quite explain.
Rúben straightened up, his gaze lingering on her for a moment longer before he turned back to the waiter. Elena looked away, her heart pounding inexplicably fast. What was that? She scolded herself inwardly, cussing her own tendency to overanalyze every fleeting interaction.
Just as she was about to move away and find a quieter corner to observe from, a voice behind her made her jump.
"Elena! There you are!"
She turned to find Mariana approaching, her eyes sparkling with excitement. Ines' sister enveloped her in a tight hug, her energy infectious.
"You're not hiding, are you?" Mariana teased, gesturing to the lively crowd.
Elena chuckled, her nerves momentarily forgotten. "No, just taking in the view. This place is incredible."
Mariana beamed. "I'm so glad you like it. And guess who's here?"
Before Elena could respond, Mariana's attention shifted to someone behind her. Elena turned, her heart doing a little flip as she found herself face to face with Rúben once again. He had approached without her noticing, his grin disarmingly charming.
"Elena, this is Rúben," Mariana said, her voice filled with second intentions. "Rúben, meet one of the bridesmaids, Elena."
Elena extended her hand, trying to appear composed despite the rapid pace of her heart. "Nice to meet you, Rúben."
Rúben's handshake was warm, his gaze holding hers just a fraction longer than necessary. "Nice to meet you too. Ines has been talking about you nonstop."
Mariana rolled her eyes playfully. "I'm sure you've got a lot to catch up on. I'll leave you two to chat."
As Mariana drifted away to greet other guests, Elena and Rúben were left standing together in an awkward silence. The breeze ruffled her hair, and she tucked a loose strand behind her ear, cursing the sudden self-consciousness that had taken over her.
This was part of her bridesmaid routine, the part she despised the most. Being introduced to the single groosman. This time the already awkward by nature situation was made worse by her own nerves. He was affecting her in a way nothing outside of her to-do-list should be allowed to.
Rúben cleared his throat, his eyes crinkling at the corners as he offered her a lopsided smile. "So, bridesmaid, huh? You must be the one keeping everything running smoothly."
Elena chuckled, relieved by him starting up the small talk. "Trying my best. Though I can't take credit for the broken glasses."
Rúben laughed, the sound genuine and infectious. "Ah, that was my little contribution to the festivities."
Lucky for her, something else grabs her attention. A ring on her phone and she finds the perfect excuse to run away from him.
“If you excuse me, I need to check on the bride.”
Ines looked beautiful, a princess, just like Elena had told her. One her face there was a whirlwind of excitement and nervous energy. The ceremony was about to start and the friends exchanged final looks as they walked together to the venue, where the groom was already standing, waiting.
The ceremony took place beneath a stunning pergola adorned with white flowers, with rows of rustic chairs facing the vineyard's picturesque backdrop. The guests were seated, and the bridal party lined up, each bridesmaid holding a posy bouquet of bright yellow sunflowers and burgundy blooms. Elena stood beside Ines, who looked positively radiant in her flowing Elie Saab gown and Ivory shoes.
Even surrounded by photographers, Elena still tried as hard as she could, to take a mental picture of how her friend looked. She wanted to remember that day forever.
She didn’t consider herself a hopelessly romantic, but she loved her friend dearly and as she adjusted her hair, she couldn't help but feel a mixture of joy and anticipation. Today was the day her best friend would marry the love of her life, and Elena was determined to make it perfect.
As the ceremony began, the atmosphere was filled with a sense of love and celebration. The sun bathed everything in a warm glow, and a light breeze rustled the leaves, creating a melodic backdrop to the vows being exchanged. Elena's heart swelled with happiness for her friend, and she couldn't help stealing glances at Rúben, who stood by the groom's side, looking handsome in his suit.
“Today, we are gathered here to celebrate the love between Ines and Bernardo.” The officiant led the couple through their vows and the two lovebirds exchanged rings.
Glasses were raised, and laughter filled the air. Dinner was served, a delectable spread of dishes that showcased the region's finest flavors.
Just like in a fairytale, magically, the afternoon turned into nighttime. The entire venue was lit in candlelight and twinkling fairy lights. The loud, rhythmic pop music blasting on the dance floor announced the final stage of the party.
At that point, Elena only had one thing in her mind: to keep her promise to the newlywed and have fun.
She finds herself walking up to Rúben, her pink bubbly cocktail raised in his direction.
"A toast! To shattered glass and unforgettable entrances!"
“Unforgettable?” He chuckles, toasting with her. “You shouldn’t feed my ego.”
“Or what?” Elena teases, trying to get him out of his cool and collected pose. He should be out of his suit jacket by now, Elena thinks to herself.
There’s a sparkle in his eyes when she says that, a mischievous glint and he changes his demeanor. Now that he knows she’s flirting, he looks more confident. The neon party lights cast playful shadows across his features, accentuating his sun-kissed skin. He sets his wine glass down and steps closer to her.
Elena’s heart skips a bit and she takes another sip of her cocktail to steady herself.
Rúben’s lips curl into a flirtatious grin, and he leans in slightly. "You know," He starts, his voice a low murmur that seems meant only for her ears, "I've always believed that unforgettable entrances deserve equally unforgettable follow-throughs."
Elena can feel the heat of the moment between them, the unspoken tension that hangs between their words and gazes. She can't help but notice how close they are now, the space between them filled with a magnetic pull that's hard to ignore. Her heart races as she locks eyes with him, her breath catching in her throat. The air between them feels charged, and she's aware of the way her pulse quickens under his gaze.
"Oh really?" she replies, a mixture of curiosity and anticipation in her voice. Her mind races with the possibilities of what he might be hinting at.
Their conversation is abruptly interrupted by a well known voice in the microphone, announcing to the guests that the bride will be throwing the bouquet. It’s Mariana, who’s hushing all the single ladies to the middle of the dance floor.
“You’re not going?” Rúben questions when he notices her lingering behind.
“God no!” Elena waves her hand in front of her face, looking in disgust at her friend's excitement. “I’m done with weddings for a while.”
“Why is that?”
They’re both facing the scene, standing close enough to watch but away enough to be safe from the danger zone. They’re leaning against a table, with Rúben arm behind her. He’s as close to her as he thinks he’s allowed.
The suit jacket is gone now and so is his tie.
“This is my third wedding this year. My fifth being a bridesmaid.” Elena whispers in his ear, like it’s a secret.
“And you’re not interested in being the bride?” Rúben 's voice is playful.
Elena lets out a soft chuckle, her gaze lingering on the bouquet-tossing commotion.
“I hate being the center of attention. I prefer being a spectator.”
Rúben 's lips quirk into a half-smile. “Being the center of attention isn't so bad, you know.”
Elena turns her head to meet his gaze, her eyes sparkling with amusement. As they watch the bouquet fly through the air, Elena's heart flutters with a mix of emotions. The playful banter between her and Rúben feels like a secret language shared only between them. The atmosphere is charged with the electric tension of possibility, and in that moment, Elena wonders if this night will indeed end with an "unforgettable follow-through" that Rúben had hinted at earlier.
The bouquet is caught by a guest, and the cheers grow even louder. The music shifts and the lively beats of early 2000s pop hits return to fill the venue with an infectious energy. Rúben's gaze flickers from Elena to the dance floor and back again.
“Would you give me the honor?” His lips curl into a teasing grin, and he playfully extends his hand toward her while Britney Spears' voice fills the air, adding to the carefree ambiance.
Elena chuckles, her heart light as she matches his flirtatious demeanor. With a playful twirl of her fingers, she accepts his invitation, placing her hand in his.
Elena and Rúben share a dance that feels like a continuation of the banter and chemistry they've been building throughout the night. Each twirl, each step, brings them closer together.
Lost in the moment, she doesn't immediately register when the music changes to a slow romantic melody. Elena feels Rúben's hand on her back, the touch both gentle and reassuring. Instinctively, she places her hand on his shoulder, their bodies moving together in the timeless intimacy of a slow dance. The world around them seems to fade into the background.
She feels the rise and fall of his chest against her. His voice broke the tranquil silence that had settled over them. His words are a soft murmur against her ear.
“I wonder what the view of the vineyard is like at night.” he muses, his tone carrying a subtle implication.
Elena meets his gaze, the way he phrases his words is more than just casual curiosity; it's an invitation, a suggestion of something more private, more intimate. In that moment, she senses the desire that lingers just beneath the surface, a magnetic pull that draws them closer together.
Time seems to warp and twist, the boundaries between moments blurring as they suddenly find themselves standing in front of her hotel room. The electric tension that has been building between them since that first broken glass is palpable in front of her.
Elena wonders if she even said goodbye to the bride and groom, the world outside of their shared space feeling distant and unreal.
Rúben’s gaze is intense, his eyes holding a mixture of longing and tenderness. The quiet of the hotel corridor feels like a crossroads, a moment that holds the potential to change everything.
Elena meets his gaze, her heart pounding in her chest. She takes a small step closer, the space between them narrowing until it's almost nonexistent. Her voice is a soft murmur, the vulnerability she feels matching the intimacy of the moment.
"I don't even know if I said goodbye to Ines and Bernardo." she admits, a hint of a smile tugging at her lips.
Rúben's lips curl into a knowing smile, his fingers brushing against her hand in a gentle caress. "I think they'll understand."
His fingers gently intertwine with hers and they walk inside.
"You are so beautiful," Rúben breathes, his words a delicate confession that sends a shiver of warmth through her. His gaze is intense, his eyes tracing the contours of her face as though committing every detail to memory.
Before Elena can respond, his lips find the corner of her mouth in a tender kiss. It's a soft, fleeting touch that ignites a spark between them, a promise of more to come. The flutter of his kisses continues along the curve of her lips, each delicate press deepening the connection they share.
Her heart pounds in her chest as he finally parts her lips, and their mouths meld together in a passionate kiss. It's a collision of desire, a joining of two souls that have been drawn together throughout the night. The taste of him is electrifying, his warmth a contrast to the cool air of the room.
Rúben's hand moves to the back of her head, his fingers tangling in her hair as he pulls her gently. The sensation sends a thrill down her spine, and she gasps, the sound mingling with the sigh of pleasure that escapes her lips.
Their tongues meet in a dance that's as old as time, an exploration that's both tentative and hungry. It's a fusion of desire and yearning, a dance that sweeps them into a world of their own making. The sensation is dizzying, their connection intensifying with every passing second.
Elena's senses are overwhelmed – the taste of his kiss, the warmth of his touch, the intoxicating scent of him filling the air. The world narrows down to the two of them, lost in a moment that defies time and space. And as they finally break the kiss, their breaths mingling in the quiet space between them, she's left in awe, surprised there's any oxygen left in the room.
His fingers move from her hair to her back. As he traces the line of her spine, a shiver of pleasure courses through her, and she arches her back in response, a silent invitation for more.
Rúben's touch is both tender and confident, his fingers moving in a slow and deliberate rhythm against her skin. The sensation sends ripples of pleasure through her, her body responding instinctively to his touch. She can feel the weight of his gaze on her, a mixture of desire and concern that adds to the intensity of the moment.
"Is this okay?" he asks, his voice a low murmur that resonates with care and consideration.
Elena nods eagerly, her eyes locked with his in a silent affirmation. The desire that simmers between them is undeniable, a magnetic pull that draws them closer with every passing second.
Encouraged by her response, Rúben's touch continues, his fingers wrapping around her waist in a possessive yet gentle hold.
As they stand there, locked in a moment that's both electric and intimate, Elena can't help feeling thankful for Ines and her kind words, ‘promise me you will have fun’.
Rúben kneels on the floor, kissing her ankle as he takes her heels off. Her dress is lost somewhere in the room, and with him being so far away from her, Elena feels self conscious. She wraps her hands around herself.
“Let me see you.” Rúben begs, still kneeling.
She drops her hands beside her body and lets him stare at her. He looks hungry. Standing up, Rúben is so much taller than her. His body reminds her of Ancient Greek sculptures of Apollo. It’s her turn to stare.
Laying in bed, Elena is on top of him, their eyes glued to each other as Rúben has a finger inside of her. Going in and out, temptingly slow.
“I’m feeling romantic,” She warned him, before. “Maybe it’s the wedding. But I want you to do me nicely,  lovingly. Like you like me.”
“I do like you.” He assured her.
But Rúben understood what she meant, he felt the same way. They wanted to make love to each other that night.
“Cum for me.” He whispers and the sound of his voice is enough to drive her over the edge. “Good girl…” Rúben caresses her head and kisses her temple. “You’ve been so good to me.”
Elena will never forget the way he looks at her, with devotion and adoration. Rúben has his own promise to keep and he fucks her lovingly, like he likes her.
“I want you so much.” She cries and Rúben kisses her passionately, trying to soothe her.
“I’m right here.” He’s completely inside of her when he says that, one of her legs on his shoulder. Rúben holds her body down while he tries to find the perfect rhythms for his hips. “You’re perfect…” He loses himself in his pleasure.
“You feel so good…” Elena moans when he gives her another orgasm.
She stirs in the soft embrace of sleep, her senses gradually awakening to the unfamiliar warmth and weight against her body. Rúben’s sweaty form pressed against her own when she woke up, thirsty, in the middle of the night. The memories of the night before flood back.
Elena carefully extricates herself from the tangle of sheets and bodies, careful not to disturb Rúben's peaceful rest. Her bare feet touch the cool floor, sending a shiver up her spine as she stands up, wincing slightly as her legs protest the sudden movement.
She pads softly across the room, her steps nearly silent on the carpet. The air feels cool against her skin, a gentle contrast to the warmth she's left behind in the bed.
Finding her way to the bathroom, Elena flips on the light, blinking against the sudden brightness. She closes the door behind her and takes a moment to catch her breath, her heart still racing from the unexpected movement. The events of the night feel like a dream – a beautiful, intense dream that she's not quite ready to wake up from.
One her phone there’s a text from Mariana, from hours before:
‘you just disappeared, girl, are you okay?’
Elena sends a thumbs up and fills a glass with water, taking slow sips, the cool liquid soothing her parched throat. She gazes at her reflection in the mirror, the memory of Rúben's touch still lingering on her skin. The marks of their connection are invisible yet undeniable.
After a few moments, she sets the glass down and turns off the bathroom light, allowing the room to return to its dim, moonlit state. As she walks back to the bed, the soft sound of Rúben's breathing guides her steps.
Carefully slipping under the covers, Elena finds her place next to him once again, his warmth enveloping her as she settles in. She's aware of the curve of his body against hers, the way their forms seem to fit together like pieces of a puzzle.
Elena allows her eyes to close. The moonlight filters through the curtains, casting a silvery glow over their intertwined forms, a reminder of the connection they share. And as she drifts back into sleep, she's filled with a sense of anticipation for what the dawn might bring, and the continuation of the story that has only just begun.
opening random encanto yt videos’ comments section is like staring at the waking storm you’re about to plunge into and knowing it’s not gonna be pretty and you’re probably not getting out of it unscathed (aka calm/happy fine—also sorry pepa oof—)
god the amount of misinterpretations people have with the movie, with so many scenes is insane, i’m about to go even more insane myself than usual
it’s so frustrating and i want to throw my phone every time AAAAAAA
but anyway yes, i wrote this ask in the first place to ask about your thoughts on different details and plot points and just general stuff of the movie that you noticed and really love, with any/all of this helping you appreciate the movie more? just anything, really, your choice on whatever you wanna ramble :3 (also to make up for how my last question had stopped you from rambling AHAHAH)
because i know you have so many good ideas and thoughts, so i’d love to hear it hehe :>
hope i made sense with the question, just a bit sleep deprived rn haha, but yes, ty!! <33
I totally relate to this feeling😭 except instead of YouTube comments it’s like almost every platform💀 and thank you for the ask!!
I could rant forever about all the details in this movie honestly!!!
The foreshadowing is SO good in this movie!! waiting on a miracle and the family madrigal being obvious ones but did you guys know the order mirabel sees the doors flicker when she sees the cracks is the order they lose their powers in? Isa + Luisa first because that’s who’s powers act up first dolores + camilo + antonio at the dinner scene and alma last because she was the last one willing to admit the problems!!
I love the character design!! I’ve rambled about it many times but it’s just !!!
I love how despite mirabel being our protagonist they show when she’s wrong and other characters call her out! She’s not a perfect protagonist she’s a flawed teenage girl and that just makes her more endearing
I love that they didn’t make Mariano a mean character just because isabela didn’t want to marry him. The problem isn’t Mariano it’s isabela feeling trapped!! Mariano is also shown to be considerate!
I love that most of the focus is on the female characters (if only the fandom would do that) I love seeing a multigenerational cast of women all flashed out with their own unique traits
about the misinterpretations i completely agree. I feel like this fandom has a “fanon” problem. especially with the most developed characters! surprisingly the ones with the most screen are the most common mischaracterised. I really dislike how encanto as a movie went to such an effort to give every character such a variety of traits and nuance only for the fandom to continuously reduce them down to one singular trait. It almost feels like reinforcing those stereotypes the movie was so set on breaking. As well as this continuously ignoring some of the best canon traits each character has. They feel so far from the original you might as well consider them ocs at that point.
I love the animation on Bruno’s vision shards (they look edible), I love the little details in mirabels room like her outfit sketches being hung up on the walls! THE BUTTERFLIES!! this movie has so many hidden butterflies it’s so fun to spot them!!
the soundtrack obviously but also the score!! only recently discovered that “the house knows” is a reprise of “the cracks emerge” it blew my mind!!!
One thing I really love about encanto is the expressions! they can convey so much with so little and the little subtleties it adds to each character is just incredible to me!!
SKIRT ANIMATION. it’s like hypnotizing to see how the skirts flow in this movie I am glued to the screen every time.
the dos oruguitas scene is gorgeous and so incredibly important to the core message of this story! As well as this scene the fall of casita is another incredible one!!
the songs feel like full blown fantasy musical numbers and I don’t know why people consider that a criticism of the movie is about MAGIC I want to feel that magic in the visuals of the song. So each musical number was like the most incredible experience!!
I love how waiting on a miracle starts off as a reprise of the family madrigal before changing to 3/4 time to show how mirabels out of place
the line “how far do these roots go down” hits so hard and I cant explain why
Felix and pepas love is so real and pure
julieta and agustín are incredible parents
dolores entire design
the fact luisa wasn’t reduced to a stereotype and was allowed to be flawed
mirabels voice!! it’s so unique and recognizable like I love it sm
the way felix sings “no clouds allowed in the skyyy”
I love that the characters actually look their age!
almas room being a replica of her old home showing how metaphorically and physically she’s stuck in the past
“I was thinking of my daughter!!”
I love that with isas transformation it’s not her hating femininity but changing what her femininity means to her
I love how mirabels worst enemy is her own mind. the madrigals aren’t aware of how she feels because she never opens up and it’s just slowly eating her up inside. in the end mirabel needed to acknowledge herself in order to grow (I say acknowledge because I refuse to believe it’s acceptance and I think she would still struggle with her self perception post movie)
I love how the Madrigals use their gifts to help their community and not for self gain. It’s such an interesting twist on the classic superpowers story
I love that the Madrigals are just normal people who randomly got a miracle, nothing of status just normal people in a normal town who got gifted.
the way pepa kisses antonio and hugs him after he gets his gift !!!
the way isabela is the one to initiate the hug but mirabel is the one who snuggles into it
julietas smile
the entire animation is so gorgeous!!
antonio. just antonio if u hate antonio I hate u
I love how realistically written alma is and how her story is treated with respect and nuance.
how all the madrigals problems aren’t solved instantly but it’s shown in a montage that happens over large period of time
Encanto God au
I got another Alma and Mirabel bonding au!
Ok so, what if the Madrigals were gods? Like:
The story/au goes that Alma fell in love with a human man, Pedro. Her parents, friends, and even strangers told her that it won’t end well but Alma, being the young goddess she was, didn’t listen. The way they met was at the candle festival, Alma loved festivals, so she wasn’t going to pass up a fun time.
So, she disguised herself as a human and went to the festival. Soon meeting the love of her life.  They dated, got married, and had three demigod children. Everyone on earth and above the clouds were of course happy for them. But her parents and friends couldn’t fight the feeling of something going wrong.
On the night of the triplets' birth, Alma was in a deep coma like sleep, as any mother would be. While asleep with her three babies next to her, Pedro was outside talking to a “friend”. This “friend” got word of Pedro marrying a goddess and having children with her. His jealousy got the best of him and when Pedro was in his calmest and happiest state…he killed him.
Not long after Alma woke up in a cold sweat and went outside to look for her husband. At the moment, a raid was going on. Houses and stores are up in flames, men with machetes on horses left and right and Pedro…After what seemed like days of weeping and sobbing, she found the man who killed her husband and…dealt with him properly, let's say.
After that incident, the only humans allowed to come near her were Pedro’s parents, high up on Monte Encanto (Mount Encanto, Like Mount Olympus ). Humans can only go to Mount Olympus when they are invited, no other way. On the plus side, it’s incredibly too high for any human to climb.
Alma was quite upset and hates herself for not being vigilant enough to protect her husband, therefore she’s going to protect her children and never let them near humans. In her mind, falling in love with them is the worst thing you can do, on both sides.
Where does Mirabel come in? Give me a sec
Remember how I mentioned Pedro’s parents? Yeah, they wanted his grave to be on earth. They wanted it on earth because they didn’t want to constantly have to have Alma’s permission for them to see their own son’s grave on mount Encanto. So, out of respect of his parents, she lets the grave be on earth and every so often she visits it when she needs time alone or is too stressed out.
Her children sometimes tag along with her on his birthday and leave some flowers or gifts for him to take into the afterlife. You know how the skeletons in Coco would take a magical version of the gift sat on their grave?
Yeah, they believe that’s how he takes the gifts. On one of his birthdays, the triplets and Alma visited his grave with gifts to give him. While doing so, they heard a faint cry. A baby's cry, they looked around to see if there was any baby in the distance. They didn’t see anything. The cry was far but close enough to hear, which is strange, who would leave a baby at a graveyard of all places?
After looking around a bit more, they found a little baby girl in a basket near a tree. She was small, very small, and she looked…new. Like not even a day new, like she was born mere hours ago.
Julieta, being the caring mother she is, picked the baby up and held her close. The little infant was cold, very cold, and from the vibe she was giving Julieta, more than likely sick.
“She’s just a baby, who would do such a thing?!”
Alma stared at the little one and she knew right then and there, she had to care for this child. Unlike her granddaughters, who had been born within the safety of alabaster stone pylons, and in the presence of trained nursemaids draped in maroon and gold silks, this little baby had no such luxury.
Unlike Isabela, whose head was christened in rosewater the minute she was birthed, or Luisa who was immediately coddled in the finest of linens to warm, or Dolores who was put in the finest cradle made of gold and calming scented clouds to lay her head on. Mirabel was in nothing but a withered old basket and wearing…nothing. There was a simple small blanket covering her, nothing more.
And to top it all off, she was born on her late husband's birthday, March 6th. This little girl was a miracle. She would’ve called her a gift from the gods but she just went with a gift from her Pedro.
So, from then on, little Mirabel (or sometimes Miracle) was welcomed into the family as a Madrigal. A mere human yes, but still an amazing little gift that Alma welcomed with open arms.
She was going to teach her everything from literature, mathematics, combat, science, just anything in the little girl's early years to make sure that she was going to be strong, independent, and smart just like her.
“I give you my word neita, you will be outstanding”
Mirabel/Miracle was given to Julieta and Agustin to care for but…it’s more like Alma adopted her herself. She read her stories, gave her gifts, fed her, clothed in the best clothes, etc. To make sure absolutely nothing happened to her little Miracle, Alma made a potion for Mirabel to take everyday to make sure she’s immortal.
The potion was supposed to give her other magical properties but it only gave her immortality, no god magic like her sisters or primos. No super strength, healing, no ability to control weather, ability to make plants, shapeshifting, or hear from far places, nothing.
No matter how many potions Alma made, no magic from her family would stick besides immortality. No matter, she was still special, and will forever be special in Alma’s eyes.
At school (for the god kids, but Mirabel was easily accepted in) Alma made sure she only had the best teachers, if she couldn’t always be the one teaching her then Alma was going to make sure gods who were well qualified were going to.
Mirabel isn’t bullied per say but she isn’t well liked either. To gods, humans aren’t anything but an annoyance or something to play with. So seeing something you were taught to not see as anything but a speck is doing better in class than you…does get annoying. And most of them think she doesn’t deserve to be there
All of the god kids avoid her unless they are paired up with her for an assignment. Other than that, they don’t pay much attention to her, and it’s easier for them because they are much taller in comparison to her. They don’t even have to look down in her direction.
God children ages 1-5 are about half her height at fifteen. So in this au, Antonio is at her shoulders, Camilo is four feet above her, Luisa is two feet above him, Isabela/Dolores are three feet over her, and the adults are a few inches above the two oldest girls.
Alma keeps her height small in case she has to talk to Mirabel, who she knows can’t stand her smallness. Did I mention that Mirabel needs to nearly climb everything in her castle to get to it? If no one in the family is around she really has to climb her way to the kitchen counter just to make a snack.
Oh, and Alma doesn’t look old is this au. From what I’ve read in Greek mythology and seen in Greek statues, none of the gods look or seem to be older than 30 so Alma looks 26 but she’s about the same age she is in canon. Same goes for the triplets, no gray hair or that much wrinkles.
Mirabel does have her own room in this au and all that jazz. I’m not so sure what to do for dynamics but I think I’ll keep things the same? Idk,
I was thinking that maybe Mirabel, Camilo, and Dolores are ok with each other, but leave them in a room alone and it’s just gonna be…awkward and silent. They don’t talk much seeing as they just have stuff to do but they're alright with each other. Antonio and Mira still have that cute little brother and older sister relationship though.
Luisa and Mirabel are cool, Luisa is a little overprotective of her, but it’s not to the point of where it’s annoying. I’m not sure about Isabela and Mirabel’s relationship though. I feel like Isabela is slightly Jealous that Mirabel gets more attention from Alma in regards to gifts, excellent teachers, and knowledge about anything and everything she gives her.
Don’t get me wrong, she loves her and would rip the entire fabric of the universe for her, but Isa just isn’t quite sure what to do with her. Julieta and Agustin are still loving parents and shower her with love and care when they can.
Felix and Pepa love her too and speak to her when they have the time. Bruno does the same and cracks some jokes if she’s ever upset.
The idea that I had is that Mirabel is like Ariel but different. She wants to go to the human world just to feel normal. Her thinking is that she's a person just like the rest of the people in the village she sees.
Nobody is up on some high horse of superiority; the people are just people. No one treats or looks at her like she's some omen you're not supposed to talk to.
On the plus side, they don't ignore her as if she isn't there and it's a rarity for anyone to be above 6'4, she's amazed by the simple fact that her height is average among girls and some boys.
The only problem is that she knows damn well she isn't supposed to be down there. Alma expects everyone, Including Mirabel, that no one is supposed to talk to humans.
"It'll be the worst thing you could do, for both ends"
But Mirabel isn't a goddess, just a human with immortality, so nothing can go wrong right?
That’s all I’ve got for now, if you have any ideas, let me know! Oh, and here's everyone's majors
Alma - Goddess of strength, independence, fertility, and festivity
Julieta - Goddess of peace, healing and fertility
Agustin - God of loyalty, crafting, and perseverance
Isabela - Goddess of flowers, elegance, and beauty
Luisa - Goddess of strength, independence, and loyalty
Pepa - Goddess of war, emotions, and storms
Felix - God of light, happiness, and love
Dolores - Goddess of silence, peace, and hope
Camilo - God of trickery, comedy, and festivity
Antonio - God of animals, happiness, and imagination
Bruno - God of Prophecy, wisdom, and laughter/comedy
THEY'RE SO SILLY
The baker and the chameleon...sobbing...
Nah, but I've been meaning to write this for a while. I haven't done much for the spouses of the mama Isa au. Actually, if y'all have any ideas for the spouses (or parents) let me know because I really need to do more for them and do more info on them
ANYWAYYYYYY YEAH <3333 Camilo finally built up enough courage and planned for weeks for this day lmao. They're so ψ(`∇´)ψ
LES GET IT
-----
Camilo fiddled with the small box in his pocket. He did his best to prevent himself from transforming into anyone else. Though, he knew Cereza would recognize him anyway. She always saw through his Gift, and always recognized him. No matter who he was. He didn't know how, maybe by some magic, but she always saw just...him.
He looked around. Waiting. Searching for her. He knew his family was somewhere nearby, watching him, waiting to watch him pop the question to her. Of course he didn't mind, it put him at ease that they were there for him, to support him. He loved his family more than anything, and he wanted Cereza to be apart of that.
Camilo reached in his pocket, opening up the small black box. He opened it carefully, looking inside of at the ring. His sister-- Luisa's husband, Oriano, had made it. Camilo asked after seeing the rings he made for Isabela and her husband and later Luisa and himself. Camilo was so excited when Oriano accepted, and he was even more happy when he had gotten the ring a couple weeks prior to this day.
His fingers traced the small etchings on the gold ring. It was the first letter of Cereza's name and Camilo's, 2 C's intertwined, along with the day they met. Camilo had a second ring on standby, in the hopes that she said yes. It had taken him weeks to get her ring measurement, because Cereza didn't wear much jewelry, especially on her hands. Mostly due to the fact that she was a baker, of course. Another thing he loved about her.
He fiddled with the box. He was half tempted to go inside Casita and ask his tía Lola when Cereza was coming. Of course, he knew she would come, she always did. But that didn't make him any less nervous.
He was terrified, actually.
He and Cereza had actually talked about getting married. And he genuinely wanted to spend the rest of his life with her. But he couldn't help but go through the hundreds of different scenarios. Scenarios of the best and worst case scenario. He wanted the best case scenario. For her to say yes, and they happily get married and she join the Madrigal family officially. He already had his mamá, Isabela's blessing, and the blessing of Cereza's father.
"Camilo?" Camilo jumped, shoving the box into his pocket and turning around. He was so distracted he didn't even notice Cereza had walked up behind him.
"Cereza!" He said, a awkward smile on his face. "You're here!"
"Yeah, sorry I'm late. We had a really big work order and it took forever for us to clean up," Cereza explained, shrugging. "So what's up? How come you called me here? Not that I mind."
Camilo glanced towards Casita, where he knew the family was waiting. His hands felt sweaty, is this what Mirabel's hands were like? He pulled on the fringes of his poncho, taking a deep breath.
"There is...something I wanna talk about," Camilo said, his face growing serious. Cereza faltered, her eyebrows furrowing. Camilo rarely pulled a serious face, so it was clearly something important.
"W-Well what is it?" She asked, her chest tightening. She couldn't helo but feel scared. She hoped Camilo wasn't going to say what she thought he was. Not after all this time. They had something special.
Camilo closed his eyes, taking another deep breath before grabbing Cereza's hands.
"Cereza, you know I love you," Camilo said.
Cereza laughed nervously. "O-Of course. I love you too."
Camilo looked down before meeting her eyes again. "No, Cereza, I really do love you. A lot. Ever since I met you and you agreed to go on the date with me. And...you've stuck around for the past 2 years. A-And I really do appreciate it and I love you for it," Camilo felt tears well up in his eyes but he continued. "You are one of most kind and caring people I know. And you know I care about my family more than anything."
Camilo pulled away, albiet reluctantly, and reached into his pocket. Cereza's eyes widened as it slowly dawned on her what was happening. It also explained why her mother was so adamant on her cleaning up before going to see Camilo and why her papá let her leave earlier.
"Camilo...?" Cereza felt tears well up in her eyes, and her nose burned, but she was anything but sad. She couldn't be more happy. "What are you doing?" She asked, half laughing in disbelief and joy.
"Cereza. You are one of the most important people in my life. You are one of, if not the best thing to happen to me since we moved here and I met you," Camilo said gently. His hands were trembling as he got on his knee, opening the box and revealing the ring, which shined in the setting sun. "Cereza Castro, will you marry me?"
Cereza had tears pouring out if her eyes. She didn't say anything, couldn't, her breath caught in her throat. She stared at Camilo, who furrowed his eyebrows. Cereza, not wanting him to get the wrong idea, threw himself into her arms. She basically tackled him to the ground, finally finding her voice.
"Yes, yes!" Cereza exclaimed, smotheeing Camilo in kisses. "I will marry you Camilo Madrigal!"
Camilo looked shocked, but quickly laughed, hugging her back. He carefully put the ring on her finger and kissed her. The two stood, and it didn't take long for the rest of the family to come out, congratulating them. Cereza was surprised to see her family there too. She had found it strange how only her parents were at the bakery and left almost immediately after she did, but seeing her siblings so happy for her made her so happy.
Camilo and Cereza were brought inside, where a party had been set up. It was a surprise to Cereza and Camilo, because initially, Camilo thought it was a small gathering and Cereza didn't even know. But they didn't care.
Cereza was immediately pulled into a hug by her parents, and her siblings bombarded her with questions about the now upcoming wedding. Camilo watched her with a soft smile.
"You just got engaged and your already oogling her," Mirabel said, holding her infant daughter in her arms. Camilo stuck his tongue out at her. But his younger sister was right.
"Yeah ok. Like you didn't do the same with Vasco," Camilo said teasingly, shifting into her husband before he quickly shifted back, and she rolled her eyes playfully.
Both Luisa and Mirabel and their respective husband, and even Antonio, were teasing Camilo, but the four were quickly shooed away by Pepa and Félix. Pepa had tears in her eyes and Félix looked proud.
"Ay, mi nieto," Pepa said, pressing a kiss onto Camilo's forehead.
"Abuela," Camilo whined, and Félix shooed away her cloud.
"We're proud of you Camilo," Félix smiled amd Camilo returned it, he felt proud too. He had been so excited but so scared. But he knew that Cereza was the one for him, and he couldn't be more happy that they were going to be married.
Pepa and Félix walked off, joining the rest of the party and Cereza joined him again, leaning in his arm. Camilo kissed her head, holding her hand tightly. He could feel tge ring on her finger and he looked down at her. It felt so surreal. He had proposed to his now fiancee, and they were going ti be married. It was like a dream. A dream he never wanted to wake up from.
Camilo's gaze was pulled away when he saw his mamá, Isabela, and her husband, his papá, Canelo, walking over. Isabela handed Isabela a bouquet of flowers, and hugged the woman tightly.
"I can't wait for you to be my daughter," Isabela said and Cereza smiled up at Isabela. Isabela fawned and fussed over Cereza while Canelo congratulated Camilo and praised him. The matriarch finally turned to Camilo, with tears in her eyes.
"You have to promise to take care of her, ok?" Isabela said, and Camilo nodded. "And take care of my grandbabies if you have any."
"I will. Just like you mamá," Camilo whispered, and Isavela felt tears fall. Small flowers sprouted in her braid, and she peppered Camilo's face with kisses before she reluctantly pulled away, being led away by Canelo back to the party.
Camilo held Cereza close, holding her hand in his. As the two joined the rest of the families in party, Camilo hoped that this dream would never end.
I liked this idea so much I had to draw it. Partially because I think it would be very in character for Mirabel to end up with somebody that most people overlook. Mostly because its funny. Ramblings under the cut, image description in the alt text.
I got a rough draft of how Mirabel ends up with Juan, but it doesn't currently have any plot and is just a series of scenes to help me get an idea of who Juan would be. I have determined that he is really into math, otherwise kinda oblivious, and learned the hard way that people won't be impressed if you brag about how smart you are. Easiest way to describe him is that his best friend is the village's quiet, autistic girl, but he is not her best friend. If it continues to interest me I'm going to make it about early twenties Mirabel grappling with the pedestal her family is on, now that she is also on that pedestal. If I do, I'll have to remember to come back here and link it.
About the picture itself, the red character in the bottom panel is Mariano (without facial hair because I forgor), I figure by this time he would be married to Dolores, and thus included in the Madrigal section. Orange is Camilo with a little mustache, because he's in his mid-twenties and will probs end up growing a goatee like all the other men in his family but right now he's got this one (1) bald patch that's holding him back. Finally, I googled 60's fashion for Isabela's outfit, I think she would be the most eager to throw off tradition and Mirabel would be all for Isabel showing up to the wedding in a more modern outfit. Originally, her and Luisa were going to be brides maids, but I googled traditional Colombian weddings, and that's not something Mirabel would be guaranteed to have. I also looked at vintage wedding photos from Colombia to try and figure out what Mirabel would look like. The same. She would look the same. Boring.
Round 1B: Encanto (2021) vs. Beauty and the Beast (1991)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Propaganda:
Encanto:
“Theres like a lot behind the characters, but i feel like the fandom would agree camilo is the most”
“As a lesbian I very much relate to Isabella and Luisa. Isabella being forced to marry a man and Luisa is just a masc icon”
“Isabela gives me very queer vibes. Like not only does her song What Else Can I Do have all this bisexual lighting in the movie, the messaging of the song, letting down your front and just letting yourself be…idk kinda sounds like a closeted queer anthem. Especially since in the context of the movie she’s singing the song right after she tells Mirabel that she never wanted to marry that one guy, who canonically is like the most eligible bachelor in town or something”
“IMO, it's easy to see it as an allegory for being ace in a world where almost everyone else is allo and overcoming acephobia, Mirabel being a stand in for an ace person (having no powers in the movie) and the rest of her family for allos (they have powers).”
“Mirabel is SO bi, Bruno is even more aroace and Isabella is such a lesbian.”
Beauty and the Beast:
“Cogsworth and Lumière are the definition of old married couple”
“Howard Ashman”
“Lumiere and Cogsworth kinda had that weird rivals to lovers thing going on. You could also make an argument for Gaston and LeFou (he’s canonically gay in the live action).”
“First first gay Disney character”
Mod note: as you may be able to tell, I’m a big fan of BatB and it was what inspired this tournament in the first place after I played Cogsworth in a production of it last year. Through that I also found out that both the actor that played him in the original movie and the live action remake are gay so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ but yeah this is gonna be the only time make my own propaganda for the tournament just cuz it’s the inspiration
Random driving into work thought: If you rewrite them a little, in Encanto the songs of the sisters would work better if you switch them
Because Surface Pressure is about being this emotional anchor for the family who takes on all of this burden and responsibility while pretending it’s easy and not slowly wearing them down, and What Else Can I Do is about having who you are be diluted down to a singular trait that others assign you and don’t want you to deviate from so they never see you as a full person and you never get to see yourself as a full person
Now to me, Isabella’s thing is that while technically her gift is growing flowers, her family role is The Perfect One, and as such she has to conform to what other people decide is perfect. And given how Abuela kinda runs that place with an iron fist, perfect would be whatever she wants. That if Isabella is perfect then she only thinks what she’s told she thinks and she only does what she’s told to do and she seems to be this community symbol for why the Madrigal family is great so she has to forever be this symbol and not a person, including marrying someone she’s told to marry even if she doesn’t want to because saying no would be going against what’s best for the family, which would make her not perfect, and everyone else in the family has to work hard and all anyone ever asks of her is to sit around and be perfect so if she suddenly is “selfish” and not perfect, then what is her purpose?
So I feel like for her, it works having a song about how she’s existing only for everyone else and never has any time or space for anything that doesn’t exist to serve other people and she feels like she’s being slowly crushed by the pressure of being everything that everyone else wants of her all the time because there is this amorphous terrible consequence for the family if she stops doing all of this for them
And Luisa seems to exist only to the family and community as Strong, she is Strong and nothing else, all they do is tell her to go do tasks for them that involve being strong because that is her single point of value and there’s no point listening to her or getting to know her beyond that because she’s just The Strong One
So a song about being tired of being defined by one single trait and instead wanting to explore everything else she can do outside of being strong seems like it would work because no one, including her, knows who she is or what she can do beyond lifting things
Idk I just remember I heard the songs before seeing the movie and thought it was weird that the song about carrying the burdens of the family was given to the person who really just exists to do physical tasks while the song about being defined by one trait was given to the one who from childhood has been forced to exist only in a way that serves the image and needs of the family
Isabela: Papa, did you have to fight Bruno to allow Abuelo to marry mom?
Isabela: Just how Mariano is going to fight Luisa for me.
Agustin: Oh, yes. What a wonderful times...
Isabela: How did you manage not to fall on your own sword?
Agustin: Honestly, I have no idea
I heard you were looking for Bruno x male reader ideas 🤤
Ooo what about a Bruno x male reader where the reader is like a vagabond that comes to Encanto every year to hang out with the Madrigals? Kind of like a Snufkin and Moomin thing. Like they're kind of together/pining for each other?
One year that M!Reader returns he finds that Bruno isn't waiting for him because he's 'disappeared' so he travels even further in order to look for him, he still comes back every year to see if he's returned. After the events of the movie reader is reunited with Bruno and obviously he's super pissed but he's also so relieved that his favourite boy is back and alive.
Mayyybeeee they get married? uwu'
sorry you had to wait so long for this, hope you like it!
Bruno Madrigal x Male reader
Tumblr media
With your backpack heavy on your shoulders, you finally arrived yet again at la casa Madrigal. All year you would travel, you slept in a tent, and made your money by playing the guitar. You made great friends along the way and got to tell all your amazing stories to anyone who would listen. Every year you hung out with the family for a few days sometimes even weeks. You had never been one to settle down but with the family Madrigal, you wouldn't mind staying in the same place forever. When you sprained an ankle or had back pain Jullietta patched you right up with her cooking. Delores would keep everyone updated on your whereabouts and well-being and when you were close to the village Luisa would meet you halfway to help carry your baggage and gifts with pleasure. The Madrigals were basically your family.
They loved to listen to your tales, especially Bruno who hung at your lips every time you spoke. Even when most people wouldn't really talk to Bruno you saw him as the highlight of your visit. After years of your annual visits to the Madrigals you realized your feelings for the dark haired man. You had a while to think about them on your travels. You were certain he would be the one to make you stay and settle down.
You arrived with Luisa at casita, Camillo and Mirabel ran in your arms. You entered casita with the little girl on your back and a copy of yourself. The other family members came to greet you one by one. Julietta welcomed you with a plate of arepas and Isabella gave you a beautiful flower crown as a welcoming gift. Felix welcomed you with open arms "Here comes my favorite visitante!" The weather was perfect and a big smile was plastered on your face as you chatted with Felix and Agustin.
You tried to keep calm but your eyes couldn't stop wandering over to the door of Bruno's room. Agustin noticed the way you looked around, waiting for that one special person. You turned back to him "Where's Bruno?" Suddenly the room went quiet and the faces around you grimaced. Abuela straightened her back and spoke "We don't talk about Bruno" you were so confused and everything felt wrong. Julietta's hand landed on your shoulder and lead you to the kitchen where she let you sit at the table. While making you a drink she told you how Bruno had disappeared without a note.
The following days felt wrong without his presence, you tried to find him but when you realized he really was gone you stayed alone in his room. Your heart ached as you thought about the last time you had seen him.
The dark eyes look at you with admiration as you sing about the things you had seen on your travels and then a goodbye song. Your song ends and you smile at Bruno "Will you write a song about me by the time you return?"  he asks. "Look in the future and find out." You wink. Bruno opens his mouth"I don't want to" You give him a confused look. He takes your hands in his "I don't want to ruin our future with a stupid prophecy." You give him an understanding look and hold his hands tighter. "I'll be back."
Years passed as you looked for Bruno, asking every person you meet if they had seen the small dark-haired Madrigal.
You didn't find him.
Still, you returned to the Madrigals every single year. The smaller Madrigals had now grown into teenagers and the town had been growing too. Even though it was a delight seeing the colorful family your mind kept turning back to Bruno.
It was your annual visit and you arrived at the spot where Luisa would usually wait. Instead, you were met with Bruno. Your Bruno. Maybe a bit older and with more grey strands of hair. But still yours.
You dropped all your stuff and ran over to him. Grabbing his shoulders to make sure he was real. "How the fuck could you do this to me? I was so worried! I- I didn't know what had happened to you..." Bruno kept apologizing while you teared up. You threw yourself into his arms and you hit the ground together. You hugged the air out of his lungs. "I'm just happy you're back" you told him. His hands cradled your face and wiped your tears. "Te amo" he whispered before passionately kissing you, this time it was him making you breathless. You melted into the kiss. "I still want to hear that song"
A few months later you held the most beautiful wedding the town had ever seen, Pepa didn't ruin it (only because Bruno was marrying you). The whole family worked together to make sure you had the best day. Isabella took care of the flowers, and Julietta cooked a heavenly buffet with delicious desserts... You couldn't stop smiling and every time you met his eyes your heart could beat out of your chest. You finally found your reason to stay.
Encanto Headcannons because this movie has a chokehold on me
- Antonio has one-sided beef with Isabella. Since her flowers attract annoying bugs, she would grow Venus fly traps, pitcher plants, sundew, etc. I don’t think I need to explain why Antonio doesn’t like this. He uproots any that he finds
- Isabella is aroace imo, in the movie we see her grow hydrangeas before Markiplier Mariano comes for dinner. Columbia has a superstition that if you have hydrangeas in a house with single women, they will never marry. 👀 (of course this is just me projecting a bit, I’m aware that it was actually just cuz she didn’t want to marry Mariano, pls don’t take this too seriously)
- Dolores’s room is not sound proof like other people say. Since her superhuman hearing ability is used to protect the Encanto, I wouldn’t be surprised if she was the only one without a soundproof room. Poor girl 😔.
- Antonio, Dolores, and Bruno gossip with each other, they have so much dirt on EVERYONE
- If you shake Bruno’s head, his eyes respond like a magic 8-ball /hj
- Dolores is normally fine with all the noises she hears all day, but the second dinner time is over, she’s done, straight to her room, don’t talk to her.
- Abuela is NOT-I repeat-NOT homophobic, IDC if it doesn’t make sense for their time period, I will forever stand by my opinion that she truly couldn’t care less if anyone in the family was lgbt+
- Bruno tugs on his rauna when stressed and that’s part of the reason why it has some rips in the fabric
- Bruno is the flavor of autism where he doesn’t know when his eye contact is too much “❇️_❇️”
- Luisa, Dolores, and Pepa love romance novels, they have a book club together
- Mirabel and Alma like to paint with each other, I’d also like to think that Alma made the family tree in the kitchen
- Alma taught Mirabel how to sew when she was younger, so she had something to do when everyone else is busy
- Camilo mimicks people’s mannerisms without realizing, but it’s often mistaken for mocking
Feel free to include your own!!
(Part 2)
Luisa: Tío Bruno, I got a question and I can only ask you as someone who sees the future. Will I remain the tallest of my generation?
Bruno: Yes.
Isabela: Wait, so I’m not going to be taller than Luisa?
Dolores: You haven’t grown since you were at least fifteen, Isa.
Luisa: You’re just going to be shorter than your little sister forever! *rests her arm on Isabela*
Isabela: Take your hand off me before I bite it off
Mirabel: What about me? Will I get taller?
Bruno: *laughing hysterically*
Bruno: Oh, you’re being serious? This is it for you. Not making it out of the kid’s sizes didn’t clue you in?
Mirabel: Well, no…
Isabela: Thank fuck, I’ll be taller than at least one of my baby sisters! What about Dolores? She’ll be screwed when Antonio and Camilo get older, right?
Dolores: Yes, but our Papa is very short. Chances are likely in my favour—
Bruno: Yeah, she’s gonna be the shortest of her siblings.
Isabela, Camilo and Antonio: YES!
Dolores, at the same time: NO!
Camilo: This is amazing! Will my muscles grow in before or after that point?
Bruno: What muscles? You’re gonna take after your mother, sobrino
Camilo:
Camilo: Fuck! *scribbles over drawing of his future self getting married* Ruins all my plans! Marco better not like muscular men
“But all the magic I have known I've had to make myself.” ― Shel Silverstein, Where the Sidewalk Ends
Tumblr media
It’s finally October, every melancholic girl's favorite time of the year. After a breakup and a much-needed Hot Girl Summer, what Sofie needed was a Sad Girl Autumn, and she’s been taking advantage of the season.
She started doing yoga and has been reading a lot more; you can confirm that by checking her Insta feed – she’s been filling it with intellectual aesthetic pics.
Strolls through the park, loud sighs, pumpkin spice drinks—anything that makes her look like the protagonist of a pretentious European indie film.
Tonight, though, is a special night. Tonight Sofie is a sexy Barbie Cowgirl, and she’s accompanied by Black Swan, Sleeping Beauty, and Carrie. Or, Chiara, Luisa and Becca, as they are known the rest of the year.
It’s Luisa’s annual Halloween party. It’s been a hit since the first edition and the first time Sofie will be attending it as a single lady.
If the last few months have taught her anything, it is how to be casual, or at least how to appear casual. Sofie was focused on having fun, holding her phone in one hand and a gin tonic drink in another. She scrolled through social media while taking another sip. She wasn't trying to arrive already drunk at the party, only to loosen up a bit.
She and her friends have already posted their outfits; half of them were already at the party. Sofie took a deep breath, put away her phone and walked out of the door.
When Sofie walks into the party, she gasps with excitement. The decor was straight out of a Halloween movie. A fog machine was filling the room with mist, cobwebs were hanging all over the place. Jack-o'-lanterns grinned from every nook and cranny, their flickering faces casting playful shadows, giving the whole scene a spooky, dimly lit charm.
It was clear Luisa had gone all in to make this party amazing.
And the guests really brought their A-game in the costume department. Among the crowd, there was a wickedly realistic zombie, a time-traveling Doctor Who, a whimsical unicorn with a shimmering horn and even a comically oversized banana. The variety was as entertaining as it was impressive.
Music was thumping from the speakers, mixing old-school Halloween hits with some current jams, setting the mood for the night.
Sofie's eyes locked onto a familiar face in the sea of costumes – it was Pedri, dressed like a pirate and laughing at something Rebecca said. He looked a bit different since she last saw him, sporting a cool beard that suited him perfectly.
Sofie wasn’t surprised to see the two chatting; Becca and Pedri have been in a complicated long-distance situationship since they met in Ibiza, in the summer. But seeing the football player at the party gave Sofie goosebumps, as she tried to forget her own antics in the Spanish island.
She goes on to greet the couple.
“Cool beard, you really committed to the theme, didn't you?” Sofie jokes about his costume and Pedri laughs. “What are you doing in town, anyway?”
They were in Lisbon, far away from Barcelona, where he should be. Sofie half asks because she worries about her friend ending up heartbroken, but she’s mostly scared that his answer might get herself in trouble.
“We had a game here last night. Figured we could stay for the party.” Pedri winks.
We. There it was, what Sofie was scared of.
“We?” She asks, anyway, even though she knows the answer.
Pedri then tilts his head to the other side of the room, pointing at something. Or someone. When Sofie looks, she’s met with a figure standing by the door, somebody wearing a Ghostface costume. She rolls her eyes and looks back at Becca.
“I’m getting a drink, have fun you two!” Sofie says.
“Don’t get lost!” Becca yells and Sofie gives her a thumbs-up and a nod, but the moment she turns away, the music swallows her up. Luisa's mansion was like a maze. Sofie knew she was in for a tough time trying to do what Becca had asked.
The music was blaring, making it feel like she'd stepped into a nightclub. There were chill-out rooms with people sprawled on fancy couches, a glittering dance floor with a DJ dropping beats, and dimly-lit hallways that seemed to lead to who-knows-where.
Sofie's search for a drink brought her to a bustling room, where she was comforted by another known face, Chiara. She was dressed as Black Swan and deep into a lively, tipsy, philosophical convo with a small group of friends.
Sofie couldn't resist joining the shenanigans. "Hey, Chiara," she chimed in, with a wide grin, “what are you guys talking about?”
Chiara turned her swan-like gaze toward Sofie, her theatrical makeup adding extra drama to her expression. "Oh, you know, the meaning of life, the universe, and why we all wear costumes on Halloween," she replied, her words accompanied by giggles from her friends.
Sofie grabbed a chair and got cozy, all set to dive into the amusing and philosophical banter.
But the conversation didn’t last long; A muffled scream suddenly pierced through the party chatter, instantly grabbing their attention. Sofie and Chiara exchanged a concerned look.
"Did you hear that?" Sofie asked, her eyes darting around the room.
Chiara nodded, her curiosity piqued. "Yeah, that sounded pretty real. We should check it out."
They both rose from their seats, leaving their group of friends momentarily and headed in the direction of the mysterious scream.
Sofie and Chiara followed the sound down a dimly lit corridor. The place was spooky, and their nerves were on edge, so they just froze, waiting to see what would happen next.
They exchanged nervous glances, ears perked up, hoping to catch any hint of what had caused that scream. The whole scene felt like something out of a suspense movie, and they were bracing themselves for a sinister revelation.
“Hey,”
The girls screamed at the voice behind them, as they jumped in shock. With a hand on her chest, Sofie took a deep breath, looking back to the figure standing now in front of her. Ghostface.
He took off his mask in a hurry. It was Gavi, and he tried to show them there was no need to be scared.
“It’s just me…” Gavi says.
Sofie and Chiara breathed a collective sigh of relief. Sofie was particularly happy to see that it was Pablo, and for a moment, she considered giving him a hug. But that thought made her freeze in her tracks, and her mind drifted back to their time in Ibiza, and the nights they shared. They hadn't talked since then.
“Is everything okay?” Gavi asks, torn between wanting to laugh at their reaction and genuine concern.
“We just heard something weird,” Chiara begins to explain.
Then, out of nowhere, loud banging noises erupted from the same place they'd heard the scream. The sudden, unexpected noise sent a fresh wave of tension through the group.
Sofie, swallowing hard, spoke up. "So, we came here to check it out..."
Pablo, shaking his head with a sly grin, says, "I don't know, I'm not super into the idea of investigating 'bang' sounds." He shot Sofie a knowing look.
“Do you think that that's somebody having sex?” Sofie asks, almost relieved at the possibility, since she had not considered it.
Chiara doesn't buy the theory, it doesn't sound to her like somebody is having a good time. “But if it's something serious, we should at least make sure everyone's safe." She says.
Pablo relented with a sigh. "Alright, fine. Let's check it out. But stick close, and let's not turn this into a horror movie cliche, okay?" He jokes.
With cautious steps, they followed the sounds down the corridor until they reached a closed bedroom door. The weird rhythmic banging noises were definitely coming from inside, and a mix of curiosity and fear gripped them.
Gathering their courage, they exchanged one last glance before Gavi, the designated leader of the group, slowly turned the doorknob. The door creaked open, revealing the dark room on the other side.
When they pushed the door open, they were in for a surprise – a room filled with Roomba vacuum cleaners gone rogue. The little bots were spinning around, bumping into furniture, and beeping like they were part of some bizarre dance routine. It was like a small-scale robot rebellion.
Gavi burst into a loud laugh, "Seems like the robots have picked Halloween for their big uprising, huh?"
“That’s why I don't trust robots…” Sofie says, tip-toeing closer to Pablo, trying to avoid the bots.
“What about the scream?” Chiara couldn't help but bring up the initial reason for their investigation.
The group tenses up once again, remembering what brought them here in the first place.
"It was me," came a voice from the corner of the room. Luisa was sitting down, carefully wrapping a band-aid around her toes. "One of these things nearly took my toe out, and I don't even know how to turn them off."
With everything finally making sense, the group gathered their efforts to grab the rogue Roombas. After some trial and error, they successfully managed to turn off the little vacuum cleaners and carefully piled them up in a closet.
Pablo and Sofie stayed behind after hushing the girls back to the party. In the dimly lit bedroom, it was just the two of them. Pablo sat at the edge of the bed, and Sofie stood by the window. They both felt the urge to talk but weren't sure where to start or what to say. The unspoken tension loomed in the room.
Should they bring up Ibiza? Or should they pretend like nothing happened? They exchanged glances every now and then but mostly remained silent as they gathered their thoughts.
"It's pretty crowded out there..." Sofie says, her thoughts interrupted by the party noise.
Gavi cleared his throat, nodding in agreement. "Yeah, I know... This is better. I prefer being alone."
Sofie couldn't help but giggle,"Well, you're not entirely alone. I'm right here, you know."
Pablo met her gaze and said, "When I'm with you, it doesn't feel like there's anybody else in the room." Gavi's face flushed like a tomato, and his eyes nearly popped out of his head when he realized what he had just let slip. "Do you... um, understand what I'm saying?" he mumbled, his words stumbling out as he anxiously awaited Sofie's response.
“I feel the same way.” Sofie says, her words escaping before she could even fully process what she was saying.
A palpable tension hung in the air as they locked eyes. It felt like an unspoken challenge to see who would look away first. It was like a silent game of vulnerability chicken, and neither of them was ready to blink.
In an instant, Gavi was right in front of her, his hand gently resting on her hips. His eyes pleaded for permission. Sofie, taken aback by his bold move, simply nodded, her eyes fixed on his lips.
He kissed her hungrily and passionately. Their minds immediately turned into a total mess, as they both desperately tried to savor the moment while also trying to let each other know just how much they'd missed this.
Sofie instinctively placed one hand on his chest, while running her fingers through his soft hair with the other. Pablo deepened the kiss, taking his time exploring her mouth and playfully licking her bottom lip.
He carefully guided her to the bed, lowering himself onto her. Their lips finally parted, leaving them breathless and flushed.
They stared into each other’s eyes intently. They couldn’t wait anymore. The desire between them was so strong, neither of them could speak. They both just wanted each other, no more holding back.
Sofie grabbed him tightly by the neck, pulling him closer. After gasping for air, Gavi brought his lips to her again, his hands moving down her sides and gripping her waist firmly.
She took off her shirt and Pablo gently pulled off her lacy pink bra.
“I missed them so much.” Gavi jokes, looking at her breasts. Sofie gives a playful slap on his arm.
“I missed you too.” She whispers in his ears. She can feel the goosebumps all over his body as she says that.
“Are we really doing this?” He asks, tenderly kissing her neck. He can’t seem to keep his mouth away from her body for too long. He knows they don’t have much time together, he’s going back to Barcelona in the morning.
“I want you so, so much.” Sofie answers in between whimpers, she’s already too lost in pleasure to consider the consequences of what she’s doing.
“But we have to be quiet.” Pablo looks at her with a mischievous glint in his eyes. “If somebody hears us moaning, they might get worried for our safety.” He whispers. Sofie has to bite her lip to hold back a giggle.
“I can be quiet.” She promises.
Pablo enters her slowly, taking his time to enjoy every second of their reunion. They get lost in each other and it feels like their first time all over again.
She wraps her legs around him and digs her nails into his back, demanding more of him. His body starts rocking, slowly thrusting harder and faster until he loses control completely.
Their bodies move together easely. Sofie has to put a hand on her mouth to stop herself from crying his name out loud.
The sigh of her desperation is enough to drive him off the edge. He reaches down and starts massaging her clit, just like he knows she likes it. Pablo speeds up his pace, when he senses they’re both close to orgasm.
He collapses in her arms and Sofie holds him close as they reach their peak together.
They have their eyes closed and for a while the only thing on their mind is each other's heartbeat.
But then, Sofie feels her anxiety creeping in, and it is enough to break the magic surrounding them. "We should probably head back to the party," she whispers. To their ears, her words seemed louder than the music outside.
"Right," Pablo mumbles, eyes still closed, lingering in the moment for a little longer.
They quietly slipped out of the bedroom, making their way back to the party without exchanging another word.
Even without speaking, as they get out of the bedroom, they share a sly, knowing look, hinting at the possibility of meeting again, without the need for words.
Sofie, without Gavi noticing, sneakily slipped a piece of paper with her phone number into his pocket.
