YouTube keeps algorithmically suggesting movies with Ray Harryhausen stop motion effects to me. I've heard most of these titles since I was a child interested in special effects. I never expected to be able to watch most of these movies, much less so conveniently and in such quality. It's cool when life drops some small nice thing directly into your lap.

#these movies are 'free with ads' on YouTube #and if you have an adblocker these movies are free on YouTube #if you've ever been interested in that shit you can watch the jason and the argonauts skeleton battle frame-by-frame in HD #you can see the film grain #hugely influential effects work you can just go look at whenever #cant really speak to how well these movies have aged i havent gotten too deep into it #there looks to be a substantial and consistent amount of brownface going on in these movies #its 2/2 so far that's not great #you know what it might not be HD #but it was not something i even noticed you can see everything so clearly #i don't know at least for me some of the jank in executing these fantasy visuals was part of the charm #feels like a theatre production or a magic show or whatever #being able to feel the hand of the artist so to speak gives it more charm to me #i guess it helps that the fantastical stories sort of already are asking a lot of you suspension-of-disbelief-wise #in the same way that the inherent abstraction of theatre does for live performance #its making me wonder if i wouldnt have more fun trying to do stop motion than i would trying to learn new 3D animation tools
