Hello my lovelies. It's been...a while! I haven't been writing a lot, but I have been doing a lot of fandom-y things. Thanks so much to @cutestkilla, @wellbelesbian and @forabeatofadrum for tagging me today!!!

I haven't been writing much this week. My Holsom timeloop is in a time out awaiting a re-read and some edits, and Simon's Two Mums has been languishing while I sated the Holsom timeloop brainworms. I'm going to put some smutty timeloop words below the cut. Because, uh, I like them.

I have, however, signed up to podfic a number of fics as part of @caught-on-tape-fest, and I just set up my new mic so that I'm ready to record! I'm excited! I'm nervous! I've chosen 4 fics in a series to record so that I have a chance to work on getting better as I go.

I've also signed up to write two fics for @carryon-reverse-bang, so you'll be seeing more of that soon. Very excited!

Just out of WIP status is a short fic I wrote for @petedavidsonscock in the In Other Lands fandom called Visible at Sea, it's a slightly silly, slightly smutty Sunbrat fic. Anyone who has read IOL is probably familiar with the fact that Elliot's voice is amazingly specific and therefore very hard to write. I feel like I did a pretty good job. Anyway, if you haven't read In Other Lands, wtf are you doing with your life, please go read it. If you have read In Other Lands, go read my fic. :-P

It’s never overstated to me when people are like “work out bc it makes you feel better” bc it literally does. I think what I used to get hung up on is making the perfect schedule / wanting to know what I was doing right away. But it’s also okay to flounder at first and experiment w things and figure out what works for you and your body. The important thing is you’re starting out bc your body really will thank you for it later down the line. You cannot keep pushing it off it will add up

I think Stede is actually wrong about them both being “whim-prone,” and I think that set him up for Ed leaving. “Whim” is Mary’s (angry, uncomprehending) word for why he did what he did. But he’d never told Mary much of anything. He didn’t run away to sea the first time on a whim. He ran after forty-some years of deadly loneliness, on a last desperate bid to stay alive, to feel something, be something, when being everything he was asked to be had failed. And he did it after meticulously planning every inch of his ship, including space for her and the children. When she wouldn’t come, he wrote them a letter and planned his escape. That wasn’t a whim.

And he didn’t return back home on a whim; he went back after learning he’d gotten the actual pirate Blackbeard to fall in love with him, quite by accident — after having two men die in front of him, because of him — which drove home that he is in fact not a ghost or a stain but a real person, really affecting people’s lives; and that him leaving might have hurt his family badly. (And he was terrified to stay and see what more effect he would have on Ed. He couldn’t imagine it being anything good.)

And he didn’t go back to find Ed on a whim. He went because home wasn’t home any more. Home was where Ed was. He went because he found he wasn’t the same old Stede after all. He went after he’d made peace with his wife and children, and was sure they would be loved well, and had gotten their blessing to chase joy.

So for him to return and tell Ed, in the same minute that he tries to tell him he loves him — to tell him then that he left because he’s whim-prone? And that Ed fell for him instead of killing him on a similar whim? That just wasn’t true. It was Stede making light of himself and his pain and his longing, still, and the things he knows; and still not really understanding that Ed had fallen devastatingly in love with him too. Not on a whim, not without knowing who he was falling for, but because of who Stede is. Even when Ed tries to tell him, twice, I was all in, Stede doesn’t really get it. He can see Ed’s glad to have him back. He knows that’s shared. He thinks that’s enough.

So I think Ed goes on thinking this love is not so devastating for Stede as it is for him. He thinks, He loves me, but not like I love him. He thinks, I don’t even know who I am now, so how can I trust how I love him? He thinks, I was meant to teach him to be a pirate, and now he’s a pirate. What else do I even have to give him?

So Ed decides to leave and find out what else; and he thinks Stede will let him go and be fine while he’s gone, because he thinks all of this has been a whim of Stede’s. He thinks Stede has gotten what he wants most of all, the thing he asked Ed for — he’s become a proper pirate. Ed doesn’t think his softer self is essential to Stede. He has no idea what Stede went through to get back to him — Stede hasn’t told him. The first thing he consciously saw Stede do was kick him off the ship. He never even saw him cry.

All I want for Ed in the finale is for him to understand that Stede calling all this a whim was horseshit. (Perhaps by finding a love letter in a bottle? Or a few dozen?) That Stede was understating his heart terribly, as he does; and that Stede is all in, too. That Ed’s presence is essential to him. That Ed’s love is all he wants; that this is for life and till death parts them.

i think people have been very deeply misinterpreting mikes character and struggles in s4. his relationship problems with el aren’t about him “trying to be normal” and fearing abnormality, it’s about his codependency and his fears of being alone.

mike wants to be someone’s favorite person. he wants to be someone’s special person. he wants someone to need him, to rely on him, just as he can do the same to them. i see a lot of people say mike needs to learn it’s okay to not be needed because you can still be wanted without being needed, and sometimes that's enough, but i disagree. i don’t think there’s anything wrong with wanting to be needed, because that’s what literally all of us want deep down. it’s easy to be wanted by anybody. to be loved by anyone. to be liked by someone. but to have somebody love you so much that they need you in their life, that they need you around, and cannot live easy without the presence and love you give them — that’s a whole different thing. to need each other is a much more intense and raw form of love. when mike tells will so many times that he “keeps telling himself el still needs him,” but he “doesn’t believe it” that he thinks they really might not come back from this fight, will tries to reassure him and say, no, of course she needs you. how could she not? but will is misreading els feelings for mike, when the truth is, mike is right. she doesn’t need him anymore. not in the way she used to or the way he wants her to. and that’s a soul crushing thing for anyone; to realize the person that made you feel like you had a purpose, that looked at you like you were something so special, that made you feel larger than life — doesn’t feel that way anymore.

the thing about mike is he doesn’t know how to live for himself, he doesn’t want to. he lives and shines when he has someone to love with his whole being, and to lose something like that is worse than dying. mike is so codependent on el because he so desperately does not want to lose her, does not want to lose himself through the process of losing her, he is terrified of her not needing him anymore because if he isn’t needed then who is he? where is he supposed to go? so he projects onto el and desperately wants to believe that el needs him the way he needs her. but she doesn’t.

mike doesn’t realize will is that special person for him, he doesn’t realize will is the one that needs him the way he wants to be needed and desired. that will cannot live easily without mike in his life, just like how mike couldn’t live easily without will and el in his. and el and mikes relationship isn’t toxic, or fake, either. el loves mike, she always has. but she doesn’t really need him the way he does. and mike needs el, but does he love her the way she does?

i just think people have been missing the point. mikes feelings and actions make sense when you consider everything he’s bottling up and worrying about inside. it’s hard to read how he feels when he hides everything but what he wants more than anything else is to belong, to be loved and needed so unconditionally, to have that special relationship with someone. he’s deeply insecure of himself and always worrying he isn’t enough, he craves reassurance, he tries so hard to be enough and hide from his fears of being alone or rejected that he fucks everything up. mike doesn’t even have all his feelings and emotions figured out for himself — so of course it’d be hard for us to understand them too.

Some lil Fabulous Four Headcanons for the soul

The quickest way to put a smile on Kobra’s face is to give him anything shiny. It has to be VERY shiny.

Party fucking WORSHIPS Britney Spears.

Ghoul is the best at doing graphic eyeliner. He does the girl’s a’lot and they almost always match.

The crew steal each other’s EVERYTHING and it’s near impossible to find anything useful in the diner without asking everybody where it is. Sometimes nobody knows either.

Jet really loves bugs. Especially beetles. When he finds a cool bug he gets so excited he giggles like a little girl and just stares at it until someone has to pull him away.

Ghoul likes to steal Party’s socks simply out of spite just to annoy them. He purposefully only takes one of each pair too. Everyone can hear Party’s constant screaming about “mY mOtHErfUCKinG sOckS” throughout the diner.

Kobra likes collecting bottle caps. He has so many that he could make a suit of armor out of them.

Party has an oral fixation and bites things at random, this could be anything from pencils and collars to Ghoul. They bite Ghoul a’lot.

Ghoul once tried snorting popping candy, nobody wants to talk about what happened afterwards.

Party owns a shit ton of heels and constantly falls into shit and twists their ankles when strutting around, that’s not going to stop them from wearing heels though.

When it’s cold at night and they’re all at the diner, they huddle together and sleep in a pile. Ghoul is always in the middle.

Jet is the best hairstylist and does everyone’s hair if they ask. He can do a’lot of elaborate shit and everybody is fucking astounded with how good he is.

Kobra can breakdance. Nobody knows this except Party, but he can.

At times when Party is sad, he makes little origami paper stars out of any paper he can find. He’s made a shit ton of them. He gives them to Jet because he really likes them.

Jet has an affinity for collecting cool cups and mugs. He thinks they’re neat.

When they’re bored and both at the diner, Kobra and Ghoul like to play hide and seek. Kobra’s really good at it and often falls asleep in his hiding spot, when Ghoul can’t find him he makes a shit ton of noise to get Kobra to show himself because Ghoul knows damn well he feel asleep.

Ghoul and Jet once tried to go sand boarding (basically snowboarding but with the fucking sand), it didn’t end well and they were both washing sand out of their hair for weeks.

Party is a god at knitting and has knitted a shit ton of blankets and jumpers for everyone, they sometimes drive around and gives them to joy’s that need them for cheap.
