the webtoon may have left out a lot of things but they did yassify the orcs which is the funniest thing to me right now
*sigh* they did yassify the orcs <3
now i want to see what they'll do with the sirens and whether i should be excited or worried lmao
#hey i got an ask#Anonymous#the greatest estate developer#tged#also. can we talk about the elephant on the room.#listen i may be totally be wrong about this and i would love to hear you guys' thoughts about this but.#doesn't it feel a little. weird. this thing the webtoon has about making muscular women look overly scary or rough?#like i feel it's gone under the radar because most of us just went 'oh hell yeah muscular women that shit rules let's go!'#but..... i think that wasn't... actually what the artists had in mind when they did. that.#like for example mellica. she's great i love her top tier character design. but look at her. and tell me the way they presented her#doesn't look like a set up for the audience to go 'oh super muscular woman is scary ha ha'. be honest.#now to be fair! all the elves look buff! like they actually look like people who train and fight and do archery constantly! they look great#so i can pass it off as a maybe a little clumsy attempt to give us more buff female characters it's fine whatever#but then we get to the lady ella bit. and uh. well.#how do say this.. it feels. mean-spirited? sorta?? a little mean??#not even because i was really looking forward to this arc i'm a big girl i can swallow my disappointments like an adult and all that#but it feels like the joke there was 'ha ha man in a dress looks weird isn't that funny? ha ha men are attracted to him that's hilarious'#especially because they went out of their way to make javier look overly burly and buff while wearing the dress#i joked about it but doesn't it feel weird?? we know javier is a pretty guy he's muscular but he's also lean and almost... delicate looking#when wearing his normal clothes#he's a pretty guy! in the novel he could easily pass as girl with no issues!#and instead the webtoon decided to make him look so big and buff he was almost ripping the dress because of how burly he is?#like clearly the joke was 'this guy can't pass for a woman and it's funny that no one seems realize it and even think he's beautiful'#and they even went with the 'i respect your fetishes' joke which. oh boi.#so i'm worried about what kind of jokes they'll make when we get to the mermaids which are described as really big and muscular#even in the novel. in which there are some illustrations that i still haven't decided how much i like tbh#and maybe i'm exaggerating! maybe i'm being paranoid! maybe i'm making a big deal out of nothing and seeing mean jokes#out of a simple gag with no ill intentions behind it!#but i just. think it's weird. and not really all that funny. and i wanted to acknowledge it cause i felt uncomfortable not saying anything#so i'd like to know what you guys think. i think i need more perspectives on this before i say something dumb(er) lol

okay so my thoughts on the Off and Monster Seasons thing
it's interesting that they're announcing these together as one block, even going so far as sharing a title. it makes me curious how it's going to be adapted, because there's definitely enough material in Off Season for a two cour adaptation, and even more in Monster Season. the PV they released is focused entirely on the Off Season cast, so it's probably just going to be multiple seasons, but i wouldn't be surprised if there was something weird going on. still think it would be funny if they went for the Danganronpa 3 chaos option
the announcement video on youtube was going through all of Monogatari's anime, but interestingly, it had Hana in the novel order, but later kept Koyomi in the anime order
re-use of the old soundtrack. not sure if that's because they got Satoru Kosaki back (he would've been around to be working on the new soundtrack for Kizu, so it's possible) or if it was just because it was recognizable. i think Kosaki coming back is more likely than Kei Haneoka, since he's been busy ever since Monogatari ended
now let's talk about the poster
Tumblr media
once again, i find it remarkable that the name is "Off and Monster Season". no other season was formatted like this, which really makes me curious why
2024! we don't have to wait long for this. if i had to guess, since i'm not seeing a more specific date, it'll air in the fall
the text on the side of the poster reads "Monogatari series restart". they're making a point of the hiatus the series has had since 2018/2019
the actual poster: in order, we see Nadeko, Tsukihi, Mayoi, Suruga, and Yotsugi
Nadeko makes sense. promising tease for Nademonogatari, but the notebook also ties a bit into Tsukihi Undo. the new short hair design is great and i'm really excited to see more of it
next to her we have Tsukihi, and again, Tsukihi Undo. i really like her new design! i always liked her school uniform, but this new hairstyle really compliments it. looking forward to her becoming a magical girl
Mayoi doesn't actually have an arc of her own in Off Season, but she does appear in, once again, Tsukihi Undo. her appearance is the oddest here, but i'll get to that
Suruga! still in her school uniform, since she's now only a senior, but oddly, she still has her arm in the bandages. her Off Season arc, Suruga Bonehead, takes place solidly after Hana, and the key art she had for the arc in the novel had her with both arms uncovered, so i'm not sure what's up with that. it might just be that since this is going for "Monogatari's big return" they went for her most recognizable design
and then Yotsugi all the way at the top, the secret protagonist of Tsukihi Undo
so the conclusion i reach is that this is mostly focused on Tsukihi Undo, with three of the five characters being on here to represent that. Nadeko also makes an appearance in the arc, so Suruga is the odd one out, but Suruga is here for her own arc. this poster is very Wazamonogatari-heavy, but if that's where they were going for, then leaving Sodachi off feels very intentional. her arc has her disconnected from the rest of the cast, for the most part, so it could be intentional, or it could be because they have a big design shift for her in mind that they want to save for closer to when the anime airs properly. either way, this really only gives us some basic insight. Nadeko and Tsukihi are the two characters with new designs, and the rest are more of a "here's the other characters you also know". it's possible they didn't want to overload audiences with a bunch of redesigns all at once
Tumblr media
on the website for Off and Monster Season, we have a credits list:
Shaft are credited as animation work, naturally
Akio Watanabe is returning for character designs, as is quite apparent from the visual
Fuyashi Tou is credited for Series Composition, along with Akiyuki Shinbo. Fuyashi Tou is a pseudonym used at Shaft, and has been credited on a wide variety of their works, including every installment of Monogatari. Shinbo is slightly more of a real person, so this seems to be about the same as the original series was!
the real interesting thing to me: the director. this was something i was very excited to see, and i wasn't disappointed. it's not Oishi, and it's not Itamura. Monogatari is getting its third series director, Midori Yoshizawa. Yoshizawa is a bit of a new name to Shaft, overall, having started working as an animator around the days of Hana, but she quickly rose through the ranks and was credited as an episode director during Owarimonogatari, specifically for the second episode (you know, the Sodachi one, with all the colors and the stabbing and the hate? very promising for where Sodachi Fiasco is going). she steadily did more and more at the studio, to the point of being the assistant director for the second and third seasons of the MagiReco anime. but! this is her first time as series director! so it's a debuting director taking the lead. looking over her credits, i'm definitely confident in her ability to handle this series
oh and Shinbo is also credited as director. lol
there's some weird stuff here, like Suruga being in her old design, or the lack of Sodachi, or the name, but overall, i'm quite excited for where this is all going. more Monogatari is good no matter what, but even better for it to be promising. i look forward to what Yoshizawa can bring to the series, and i look forward to seeing Off and Monster Seasons adapted!!!

Chapter 14
-----
Jaune really wanted to close his eyes. They feel so heavy, like someone had tied anvils to his eyelids. He couldn't take a nap though, not where he could be watched. Uncle-, Big Bear would hear about it.
He had to be a representative of the Xiongs.
He looked down at his test. Jaune hadn't even wrote his name down. What class period was he even in, had he had lunch yet? No. So, it had to be before lunch...
Maybe, he should look at the questions? ... Still no clue. He got up, getting attention from across the room. "Mr. Arc?"
"Just stretching."
"Can it wait until after the test?"
"No."
The teacher gave a frail smile. "Well, I'd much appreciate it if-"
Jaune leaned back, a series of bullet-loud pops echoing across the room. Several students flinched, looking up from the test for the source of the test, others covering they're ears at the sudden noise, and a couple nodded they're head finding the sound oddly pleasing.
"Nevermind." The teacher sat down, and so did Jaune. He started to remember what class he was in. Something something science. Usually he slept through it.
He looked at the questions again. It was asking about chemical change, was he is chemistry?
It was dumbly worded though, bland enough he wish had some salt to put on it.
Still, he knew the answer to this one strangely enough, he had done a lot of experimenting in his early days of monster-fighting, so he knew a bit about chemical change.
It was asking for a example, and he wrote gunpowder, explaining how when a spark hit it, it created a chemical reaction that made a small explosion and smoke.
Jaune nodded to himself.
Reading the rest of the questions, he realize that all of them he sorta of knew the answer too, especially since they all related, to one degree or another, to his experiments.
Once figured out, Jaune handed over his test to the teacher, who took it, reading over it.
Exiting out into the hallway, Jaune made his way down the hallway to find a secluded place to close his eyes for a bit. Turning around the corner, he took a step to the side, as a faunus girl almost walked into him.
She paused mid-step to look at him, eye's going wide. "Wait-"
"Yes?" Jaune paused.
"Um..." She stuttered. "Thank you."
"For what?" Jaune couldn't remember ever-, oh. "Oh the purse. Get everything back? Nothing missing?"
"Yes!" She nodded, her rabbit ears bobbing slightly, Jaune found himself unable to look away from them. "Thanks to you." She noticed his gaze and blushed. "Sorry, I don't want to bother you."
The Xiong heir-to-be shrugged. "It's fine, I was just going to nap. Nothing major."
"Oh!" She brightened up. "Then, you wouldn't mind if I treated you to a drink? My treat?" Her rabbit ears twitched forward, the ends drooping slightly.
He couldn't look away, Jaune realized. So, just slowly nodded.
"Great!" She gave a chirp. Then looked nervously at him. "Oh! I haven't introduced myself. I'm Velvet, Velvet Scarlatina."
"Jaune, Jaune Xiong Arc."
----
"So, do you girls believe in ghosts?" Nora asked the table.
"No. That has no scientific backing." Weiss said firmly.
Her fellow comrades stared her down ruthlessly, with a expression of 'really?'.
"Well, I do." Nora said proudly. "In fact, I've met one or two, right Ren?"
"They weren't ghosts," Ren said flatly. "She found my parents in a ... intimate moment, and they ran hiding under some white sheets."
"Same thing!"
Ren sighed. "No, because my parents are very alive, this happened yesterday."
"OH." Nora hit her palm with her hand. "That's right. Sorry." She looked around the table. "By the way, Jaune. Renny's parents want to know when you're coming by, they miss you!"
There was no Jaune at the table.
"Oh." Nora drooped sadly. "My boy has grown up." Then perked back up. "We'll, I'll just have to find and tell him myself!" Then disappeared in a blur of manic energy.
"Shouldn't you mind that?" Blake asked Ren, who shrugged.
"Jaune can handle that."
Blake nodded. "Do your parents actually miss him?"
Ren smiled. "Yes."
Ruby poked Weiss in the ribs. "So, don't believe in ghosts?" Yang joined in poking her other set of ribs. "Yeah? Don't believe in ghosts?"
Weiss squirmed being poked repeatedly. "Stop that! The idea of ghosts is just so illogical to me."
Pyrrha cocked her head at Weiss. "And? You don't have an opened mind to it, with your own circumstances, it seems even more illogical not to consider it."
"Ok. Point taken. But, that doesn't mean I believe in them."
Ruby laughed. "Gosh, Weiss, if I didn't know better, I'd think you were afraid of them with how much you don't want to be real!"
Weiss looked away, saying nothing.
Yang brightened up. "Oh. This is golden."
Blake peered at Weiss. "So, ghosts?"
"My childhood home was drafty that's all. It pushed doors open, perfectly logical explanation, I'm sure. The cold spots were just because of poor construction. The moans were just echos." Weiss fired off trying to explain it, mostly to herself.
"Geez," Yang chuckled, backing off. "Alright, it's fine. Not like ghosts are going to hurt anyone."
Ruby put a arm around Weiss. "Don't worry, we'll kick any ghost butts that try to haunt you!"
Weiss sighed. "Thank you, Ruby."
Blake looked at Ren. "You didn't say what you think about Ghosts?"
"Neither did you girls."
"I think we're pretty open minded. " Blake said, with all but Weiss nodding.
"Hmm. That's good." Ren sipped his tea. "I'd just say, they're not the strangest things to exist."
------
The door opened, revealing a dark room, Velvet flipped a switch, and Jaune went bug-eyed at the sight. 'There's no way this is real.' He looked around the room, trying to make sense of what he was looking at. 'But, it's here.' He looked at Velvet with a bit of fear.
It was a room entirely of him. As the Shadow Knight, not normal him, thank his ancestors it wasn't. But, all across the room was pictures of his alter ego, boards full of text, rare-video of him being played, and what he could only know as a half-way decent reconstruction of his first costume.
Jaune fought the urge to burn the room to cinders, he looked around, wishing very strongly to have brought a lighter to school. He'd know better from this day forward. Flint and steel, too.
"Excuse the mess," Velvet said meekly, then gestured to a chair. "Take a seat, while I brew some tea." Jaune sat down, staring at he wood, desperate to not see all his pictures, this was embarrassing to a level he didn't know existed.
"Oh, I didn't realize you were that tired." He heard Velvet say, causing him to snap back up. "I don't mind if you drift off for a bit. It'll take a moment to make the tea, anyway."
He was very tempted to do so. However, he decided to not do so. Embarrassing or not, he needed to figure out what the hell this all was. So for the moment, Jaune watched Velvet move around getting the tea leaves and setting the water to boil.
Velvet then took a seat parallel from him, looking shy. "Do you like black tea?"
He wasn't a big tea drinker, but he'd try anything once, foodwise at least. "Yeah, that sounds fine."
"Great." Silence mostly filled the room, other than sound of the water slowly boiling.
"What is all this?" Jaune decided to bite the bullet, gesturing around the room at ... all of that. "It's ... through."
She blushed. "It's not that great, it's just a bit of hobby."
Then he'd hate to see what really caught her interest. He looked at the replica of his old suit on a mannequin. "Yeah, a hobby. We all need one." Jaune watched a video of him decking a someone with Ferrum Vis, his old pipe, he missed it already. The video then showed him running away from the police, that had been a couple weeks ago, wasn't it?
Velvet nodded energetically. "Yep! Well, it's more than a hobby now, but it started out as such." Her ears wobbled. "I have a hard time talking to people. Now's not much better, though. I only really have Coco."
Jaune could understand that. "Yeah, people are strange creatures." Velvet looked down. "Not that you are, just in general." Jaune backpedaled.
"Thanks. But, I know this is weird, but ... I feel so drawn to him. It's like he's more than a man. It's just big thing to solve to me, a puzzle with so many moving parts! It's makes it all the more fun to try and figure it out." Velvet's voice grew in energy as she talked. "Like why does he do it? Who is he? When did he starts? It's all so many questions without answers."
"Maybe, that's for the detectives to figure out." Jaune added neutrally.
Velvet sighed. "I asked them, but they don't care. They have more pressing matters, other than some, and I quote, 'Crack-head bum getting into pissing matches with gang-bangers,'." Velvet frowned, and Jaune fought the urge to pet her. "How rude. But, I guess that's the best I could ask for, at least they didn't turn me away like some would."
That was actually a relief to Jaune. Knowing that police didn't think much of him, which he hoped to keep that way. Though, it did beg the question how much they knew? Maybe, he should take some time to find out?
Big Bear had hardly had any information on the shadow monsters, other than what his family passed down, and what he already knew.
Jaune thought about that book he found, it had mentioned The Moon Lady summoning darkness monsters? This went back several hundred years minimum, and he hadn't managed to cross-reference the story yet, so it's impossible to tell how old it was. It could have very well been written by somebody in the know, or just some guy.
Jaune sighed.
Velvet then misinterpreted this. "I know, right? The lack of interest in the topic is staggering, we have a actual modern day hero going around fighting for us, and no one cares, or hardly knows."
Jaune would fight her on that, given how many people had called to him as the Shadow Knight.
She then looked at Jaune hopefully. "What do you think about it all, Jaune?"
The blonde young man swallowed. "I think ... he's doing his best. Not perfect, but I think this 'Knight' is trying to make the world better, as much as one man can... Even if it kills him."
Velvet's ear's slowly stood up, her eyes widened, and she gave him a wide-happy smile. "I knew it! A good guy like you would surely get it!"
The kettle whistled.
"Let me get that." Velvet said happily, then sat a cup of steaming tea in front of him. Jaune took a whiff of it, it was very floral. Then brought out his lunch-box. It's weight making the table groan as he sat it down.
Velvet looked in shock at what must be a body-builder sized meal. "Wow." Then she looked at the clock. "Oh. I guess it is about lunch-time." Then went and retrieved her own lunch from the back of the room.
------
Yellow flew over the harbor, bored out of her mind. She had to control her power output while she flew, to keep anything sensitive from noticing her. It put her in a bad mood, as her control was by far her weakest trait.
Still, she had promised the rest that she would do her part and parole for a couple hours. It sucked that people were getting killed over here, but it's like all the people at the harbor were upstanding citizens to begin with. She honestly thought, that they're energy was best used going after Grimm Swarms, even if individually they were more than enough to handle that.
Still, flying in circles trying to sense something that might not be there anymore was driving her nuts, she really just wanted to pound some Grimm heads into oblivion.
She looked at the dark sky, realizing it was probably close to midnight now. They usually got done around 1, but sometimes as late as 3. Thankfully, for her beauty-sleep, was one of the perks for being a magical girl, along with Aura, was a reduced need for sleep. Otherwise they'd be useless by daylight.
Though, she still did miss sleeping in.
In the distance she spotted a crimson-glow making its way towards her.
"Hello, Yellow." Crimson greeted her politely.
"Hey, Crimson. Am I done, yet?"
"Indeed you are, feel free to go-" Crimson wasn't even halfway done, before Yellow took off.
"Great!"
Crimson shook her head, and got to patrolling. As a cargo-ship was coming in from the darkness, a heavy and thick fog following in behind it. Orange sparks appearing inside the dark mass only to then disappear.
----
Jaune looked at the rapidly dissolving mass of shadows, then at his ax. It was ridiculously sharp. It had cut through the head of a small shadow-wolf with next to no effort on his part.
It was a big step up from using Spite, the knife had been getting dull, and wasn't very high quality to begin with.
This was going to make combat going forward at lot more efficient.
Taking a breath, he organized his thoughts and controlled his breathing, time to find another one.
He tapped his helmet. "Hey, girls. Anything on your end?" The twins were sitting back at the van keeping a eye out, ready to take pot-shots at anything that got too close.
'Nope.' Miltiades answered.
'Nothing of interest.' Her sister also responded.
"Alright, then."
Jaune went on a stroll, trying to see if he sense any more of them out tonight. But, so far, other than a few stragglers, it had been unusally quiet tonight.
Which would be fine with him, if not for the feeling of dread collecting in his stomach.
He stopped moving, feeling a chill down his back, and looked behind him.
There was a girl with pink and brown hair staring at him from the other end of the alley, she had a parasol over her shoulder, and looked amused.
Jaune stared back. She smiled, and then gave a 'follow me,' motion before running off. He had a bad feeling about her.
He followed anyway.
She was fast, hardly able to keep up, as she practically danced in the air in front of him. It was unnerving. But, he kept pace, running for what must have been ten minutes, with her not even straining.
Then she stopped abruptly, as they rounded in front of a store that had been broken into. A dense heavy fog was surrounding the store, as from within two large, lumbering shadow-wolves scooped up in they're clumsy arms whatever valuables they could, before venturing back into the fog.
Jaune stopped, looking in utter confusion at the sight, trying and failing to figure out what the hell was going on. Analyzing the beasts, before noticing a single glowing sigil on they're heads.
That of a Fox.
He looked back at the girl, then sighed, as she was gone. He looked at the store, and the retreating shadow-wolves disappearing into hardly-visible shapes in the fog.
"Well, well, well." A cocky voice came from above him. "Look who we have here?" Jaune looked up to see the vague-shape of girl glowing yellow, and felt his heart start beating rapidly. "What brings you round these parts, mister Shadow-Knight?"
"Wait-" He didn't get a chance to finish.
"'Cause, it looks like to me that you're robbing the place! Well, whatever, I've been itching for round two for a week now!"

bsfs older brother sukuna asks!
Tumblr media
(these are old asks so ik this is about the last chapter)
BUT EEK THANK YOU SO MUCH THIS IS SO SO SWEET. like legit all the characters are all my friends in real life but also they are all me and i LOVE that they feel real bc lowkey I put my own feelings into it 90% of the time so.
THANK U THANK U THANK U I LOVE U SM
Tumblr media
will gladly take you up on the offer 💌 but on the real, THANK U SO SO MUCHHHHH
so real of you though bc he gives me hyperfixation too. chapters lately have only been so long or thought out because I think about him 24/7.
I am cooking some INSANE stuff like I need to chill out in the brain. it's giving method acting level "that was so unnecessary you did not need to write that" but here we are.
today I looked at the masterlist and realized the content tag said "light angst".....so I definitely need to go change that LMFAO.
Tumblr media
this is also old. BUT APOLOGIES! do hope you loved the sammy arc bc as a girl with a big sister I LIVE FOR THE SAMMY ARC!
Tumblr media
correct. they also do that one where you paint each other but y/n paints him really good and he just paints her as the babadook.
Tumblr media
oh. my. goodness. YOU ARE AMAZING!!!
first of all, appreciate so bad that you don't comment about chapter updates. i gets lots of asks (both polite but also some that are kind of demanding) about when i post chapters but i appreciate that you just pop out and read when i'm ready to write.
i saw a post today about how people treat fic writers on this app like influencers, how there's an expectation to always be producing that comes with that short attention span content type relationship and i can't stop thinking about it. i do really think that my best work comes out of me being able to sit on it, think about it until i am ready to put it out (and I hope that it shows in the quality of the work that i'm trying to put my best foot forward instead of uploading all the time)
i am also just a girl™️ college is stressful, life is stressful, sometimes there's a lot going on and i disappear for a few weeks so i appreciate you always coming back when i'm ready!
and UGH thank you so much about the comments about the past and overcoming it. i've said this before but a lot of sukuna's past but also y/n's is from stuff that is quite literally me pulling the crazy thoughts out of my brain and putting it out there. even though what's happening in the fic isn't really happening to me, it does somehow make those types of things so much better for me when people send me sweet stuff like this and tell me that it makes them feel seen, or they feel things, because it makes me feel warm that I was somehow able to make all that pain worth it for someone else, even if it is in a silly little fanfiction. IDK im getting emotional tomorrow is the one year anniversary of me starting my silly little blog so im thinking lots of thoughts.
Tumblr media
AND I LOVE YOU!
(I ignored all the asks about posting another chapter bc I already posted the new chapter LOL)

Do you have an opinion or analysis on why Akasaka made Kana so dependent on Aqua? even though she was initially introduced to her independent figure. But after meeting Aqua, Kana's figure became very dependent. Even in hier work and everyday life to be bad. Fans and those around her can clearly see that Kana is not well. And it was all because of Aqua. Actually I don't like the independent character of Kana to be dependent on men. I like Kana and it makes me a little disappointed with her character. I know they call it "honest" and "not hiding her feelings" but it bothers me especially when I know that Akane's character is very mature and doesn't depend on Aqua. But I was confused why they said it was Akane who depended on Aqua. Do they read other manga? i'm Kana fan but for this story i really want she can stand up for herself and live her life without Aqua and just be a good friend. For me Kana and Aqua is more toxic because Kana can depend on Aqua but Aqua cannot depend on Kana. For me they are opposites and I realized that Kana is too concerned about her own feelings than Aqua. That's the bad side that Kana has. I realized that Kana always blamed Aqua and never tried to understand Aqua. That's why I prefer them to be good friends. I feel bad for Kana and Aqua but I feel even worse for Akane. She is the only good girl, almost have no flaws here, but her character is often misunderstood. These three should be happy because they deserve it. I don't like love wars and they are tiring to deal with. I prefer Kana to be independent and aware of her potential. Back as confident as Akane had ever seen. I hope Kana and Akane can be good friends. Kana and Aqua personallity can't even match as well as a couple. I like your analysis about Kana's character and it help me to catching up with the manga well^^ thanks to you!
Thank you for your message, anon! You've listed a lot of my own feelings about this, specially when you say that it's like people are reading a different manga with the way they describe the girls' and their relationships with Aqua lol You have also mentioned a lot of the reasons why Aqua and Kana don't work as a ship for me.
As for why Aka made Kana so dependant on Aqua, my best guess is that he did it to expose the contradiction in her character. She seems independent, but that's because she forces herself to be that way. Deep down, she is desperately looking for someone to depend on. I'd even say that her biggest weakness is being overtly dependent on external approval. If you praise her, Kana melts and lets her guard down. We see this with Aqua, with Pieyon (Aqua) and we see this with the director, too.
By turning Aqua into Kana's crutch and then taking him away, Aka forces Kana to face this weakness of hers and what it turns her to. She doesn't like it one bit and makes up her mind to become a big panda no matter what. To me, this means that Kana is finally ready to grow into someone who looks inwards instead of outwards when it comes to validation. And thus, into someone who is truly emotionally independent instead of just acting the part.
Tumblr media
But of course, this is just my personal interpretation. Don't hesitate to let me know if it makes sense to you as a Kana fan!
Tumblr media
No worries anon, you explained yourself perfectly! You raise a very good question, here's what I replied to a fellow anon who raised a similar point. It does seem to me that unlike Kana and Ruby, who have character arcs unrelated to Aqua (Kana's aspiration to become a big panda, Ruby's ties to her mother figures/her past as Sarina/wanting to play at the dome/etc), Akane's is completely tied to Aqua's. This could be an issue in another manga where the love-interest is passive and removed from the plot, but since Akane is allowed to directly interact with the plot and to move the story forward, it luckily evens out (for me, at least). Though I'd love to have more Akane slice-of life lol

top 10 magical girls design-wise?
Shoot, this is hard! There are a number of designs I like, but here are 10 of my faves (in no real order):
10. Kirari Hikaru:
Tumblr media
She's got a unique, recognizable silhouette, and the "toy soldier" aesthetic fits perfectly with how she sees herself as an extension of Yuna's will. It's always nice to see more magical girls wearing pants, too! The fur-trim jacket that she's got draped over her shoulders looks cozy; I'd love to see her wearing it properly one day.
I remember seeing fanart of Hikaru way back in early 2020, shortly after I first got into magireco, and being so excited for the game to get to Arc 2 so I could learn more about her. :') I've got a soft spot for her because of that, haha.
9. Yukino Kanae:
Tumblr media
Kanae's design is just so cool! It's got a very pleasing colour palette, and her outfit does a good job of balancing punk with some typical lacy magical girl flair. The shoulder tattoo-style soul gem is awesome, as are her oversized gloves and rusty pipe weapon. Masc characters are a rarity in magical girl series (perhaps understandably), which makes it that much more of a delight to me when we do get them. :>
8. Yukari Miyuri:
Tumblr media
I want to cup her little face like some kind of small baby animal; she's so cute!! Even her colour scheme is endearing, especially with the little flowers on her dress and helmet. :') The white scarf is one of my favorite parts of her design. It's a nice accessory, and the way she fiddles with it in-game when she's nervous is adorable.
The bike shorts under her dress are a nice touch-- not only are they practical, they tie in well with her dark brown gloves and tights to help bring the outfit together. Points for having an unconventional weapon, too; those are always fun to see.
7. Izumi Kanagi:
Tumblr media
The second I saw Kanagi while playing through A1C7 for the first time, I was like "ah... i'm gonna be in this fandom for the long haul, huh". im a sucker for fur and leather; sue me The black-and-white contrast makes for a sharp look, further improved by the shiny gold accents. Between the navy/military officer-style uniform (complete with some very flashy epaulettes), the fancy monocle soul gem (a cool concept in its own right), and the black neck ruff that resembles a lion's mane, she's got a distinct image of authority and power. Real "Sir, yes sir!" vibes.
6. Satori Kagome (Hyakki Yagyou ver.):
Tumblr media
she's so fuckign CUTE AHHHHHHHH and the youkai Aru-chans are sweet as well!! I can't say no to those faces. ;_; Kagome's regular magical girl outfit is nice too, but this outfit takes the cake for me. The ocean wave geta are a clever idea-- she's got a "drowned ghost" aesthetic (the translucent flames, hanging seaweed, flowing white robes, and seashell staff), so it's kinda like she's coming out of the water.
The red and gold accents on her design break up the white/teal/blue palette in a way that catches the eye, adding a little more visual interest to really make it a solid design.
5. Kasane Ao:
Tumblr media
Ao's design is another one that had me really looking forward to Arc 2 back in the day! Look at that smile; she's precious. ;; She has a more muted, limited colour palette, but it utilizes accents and small accessories well to keep it from feeling boring. Her boots are one of my favorite parts of her design-- they're super cool, plus they have a sort of "badass video game character" vibe that works great with the image she's trying to project. I dig the unique scarf/hair tie thing she's got going on; it kinda reminds me of a cobra's crest. :0
Funny enough, despite how revealing her outfit is, it doesn't feel that fanservicey to me? Maybe because I keep thinking of her skirt as more of a skort, so there's no risk of panty shots. The long sleeves help too, I think-- and her ruffled top is cute in general, especially with the bow in the middle. 10/10 my beautiful baby girl
4. Ooba Juri:
Tumblr media
You can't go wrong with black, red, and gold! I've always been big into dragons, so I'm not surprised I latched onto Juri the way I did. I love her big ol' dragon backpack with its tiny wings and heavy-duty chain straps, and the fact that it's the fuel tank for her flamethrower. It's the perfect mix of cool and fun, which suits her personality really well. I'm digging the gradient in her hair, too-- the black fading to reddish-orange tips is a sweet look, plus it ties in with her title of "the Flame of Ryuugasaki".
Her >:) face is very charming, haha. She looks like the kind of kid who gets in trouble a lot... and she does, but something about her crooked smile makes her feel more like a delinquent with a heart of gold rather than an actual villain. It's a small thing, but it makes for some good, subtle characterization.
3. Chizu Ranka:
Tumblr media
Massive props to GAOU for managing to make a "retro gaming"-themed magical girl design that gets the aesthetic across without being tacky. It's mostly in the fun little soul gem "game pad" on her dress and the black/grey/red palette, which call to mind old consoles like the NES. On that note, I never did outgrow my junior high goth phase; black and red is still one of my favorite colour combos ever. :') i suppose some would call ranka's design pink but it's more like a pink-tinged red to me. like ruby or cerise.
For some specific things I like, the black/silver contrast of her dress (/jacket... thing) is really sleek! I also love the cute ruffles and ribbons on her outfit, particularly the bow in her hair and the ones around her ankles. Honestly she's just super cute to me in general; I love her face and how she looks both fairly dainty and also like she'd shove someone into a locker. Her hair is very pretty as well-- the bluish lowlights look fantastic with the black.
2. Kureha Yuna:
Tumblr media
It's great when a design conveys exactly which sort of impression the character is supposed to give. In Yuna's case, she's got a distinct traditional Japanese + oni aesthetic with her outfit, horn, and weapon, further helped by the gold/black/white palette being reminiscent of a tiger-- something that's both fitting for her as an oni and as the leader of Torayamachi. She looks somewhere between exhausted and like she's been crying, but she's also carrying a kanabo that's almost the same size as her body, implying that she's more brutal than her frail, tired appearance lets on.
It's also just a solid design in general! The colours are nice, the style is cohesive, and nothing feels unfinished or too open. I love how silky her hair looks, and the soul gem hanging from her horn is very eye-catching.
1. Izumi Kanagi (Eternal Darkness ver.):
Tumblr media
This design looks like it came straight out of Monster Hunter or a Soulsborne game. It's so cool!! The crownlike hairpiece, the way her eye blazes behind her iron visor (unfairly awesome), the tattered jabbot, the chipped pauldrons, the fur cape, the ragged tailcoat, the scarring on her gauntlets and boots-- from head to toe, it absolutely nails the "disgraced king/knight" vibe. A symbol of destruction; the lord of something long forgotten... man. Immaculate. Her weapon- a torn pennon heralding nothing- ties in with this perfectly as well.
The whole aesthetic suits Kanagi to a T, and I love that they kept the fur trim present in her standard magical girl outfit. Also, pants! A rarity!! And her soul gem becoming the clasp on her cape/pauldrons is an excellent design choice; it definitely helps sell the regal feeling. 10/10 ough my in-game gems didn't stand a chance

Okay, this post was sitting in my drafts for a while and at first, I wanted to wait til the arc (and season) is over so I could talk about it properly, along with some other things. But I guess now is the perfect timing. Well, what's the topic?
It's the way the (eng) fandom sees Yuhi. Because damn, this guy seems like the most hated character of the show rn when I look around the internet.
I remember during season 1, people would be meh about him because he wasn't as cool/strong/smart as Yuamu and Yudias. He was the "weak one" of the trio, "too childish/silly compared to his twin sister" with a lame looking deck aka uninteresting and people waited for the writers "to do something with him" so he would be up with the other two.
Then season 2 comes and Yuhi gets more focus. He's a bit smarter, his dueling improved too. People who were meh about him at first suddenly started to like him better. But with this change, other people would come to hate him.
The major reason I see people hating on Yuhi now is for him "taking away" screentime/focus/relevance of Yuamu and sometimes Yudias too. And I wonder: Why do you hate the character and not the writers for that? Ngl, I like Yuhi a lot but I totally understand people wishing that Yuamu got the same treatment as him or was at least a bit more involved. I mean it does suck to see how barely she matters when even other girls like Asaka and Yuna do more/get more focused episodes than the freaking main girl. Doesn't help either how Yuamu is just absent on the season 3 poster. Some assume she could be the next big bad but if not.. where is she? Would the writers really just "write her out" for a while? If that was the case, it would just mean that more people would get pissed at Yuhi. Because then, there is just one Ohdo twin so he will get more attention than before.
There's now the arc final duel against Yuga and yeah, it's Yuhi dueling him and not Yudias. I can understand being annoyed or disappointed about this decision but again, instead of just hating Yuhi for this, why not be pissed how the writers don't let Yudias duel Yuga? Like what is stopping them to let Yudias face him? Tbh, I still think there's this little chance of when Monster Reborn gets activated in ep 101, something happens with Yuhi so Yudias has to take over for him. Similar to how Luke took over for Yuga once. It's maybe not much but better than having him not involved at all?
Ngl, while I'm curious how season 2 will end and season 3 will play out with the new antags, I'm not looking forward to see one of my favorite characters keep getting hated for things he's not responsible for because the writers can't manage to give other characters some attention and relevance too. Like I really want to see more people questioning the writers (because they didn't just screw up when it comes to Yuamu just existing or Yudias getting barely proper protagonist time, there are more problems and Idk how some people can't admit that but still say the writing is great) than just go "I hate Yuhi so much" and act like he's the sole source of evil when he's not.

A review of The Roundabout Way of Fate by @itsmyartfam
Overall, I'd probably rate this an 8/10
Take a shot every time the word "greenette" is used and you've got yourself a one-way ticket to alcoholism lol
I liked the lore about Healers in the MHA world, how healing Quirks were almost like their own category of Quirk classification (Emitters, Transformation-type and Mutation-type), and how Healers are prime kidnapping targets for villains because of course they are. It all made sense and it was an interesting bit of interpretation I wasn't expecting to get.
One of the things I always look forward to whenever I read canon rewrite fics is seeing how exactly the author will rework certain parts of the original story, and this one? Not bad. Like the fact that Izuku and Bakugou are actually friends, and that Izuku is the one that gets kidnapped by the League.
I have some thoughts about the application of Izu's Quirk. In the fic, he has a healing Quirk that allows him to heal both new and old injuries. This includes scars and physical disabilities, and I just... I don't know. I feel like people should just be allowed to have scars and physical disabilities without treating it as a problem to be fixed. Like, in the fic, Izu heals Tensei so that he can walk again, and I really don't know how to feel about it. Because, on the one hand, I feel like it almost cheapens Tenya's whole arc about taking his brother's hero name, but also, like, some physical disabilities do make it harder for people to do certain activities, and can even be an inconvenience at times, but at the same time, it's still a part of them, and for most people, it's likely a part of themselves that they wouldn't want to get rid of even if they could. But I also don't know as much about this as others, especially considering that I don't have a physical disabiliy. I'm technically disabled (I have diagnosed ADHD, autism and PTSD, all of which apparently count as disabilities) but none of those are physical so it affects me differently, therefore, I don't know if I can appropriately weigh in on this topic.
One of the good things about this fic is the fact that it's constantly asserting over and over again that despite not being a villain-fighting hero like the others, Izuku is not a pushover or a delicate teen mom healer-type that needs to be protected and coveted. Izuku has agency and is incredibly capable and is still very much a hero in his own right. Yes, he needs help sometimes, but the author doesn't make him a damsel in distress like a lot of healer!Izuku fics and content I've skimmed over. Because Izuku isn't a dainty, helpless nurse; he's the hero equivalent of a combat medic with actual skill who's well-versed in and knowledgeable about his craft, who learns and adapts and develops over the course of the fic and can hold his own in a fight when he needs to, which is so refreshing to see in a healer character.
This fic also does a great job of prioritizing and expanding on Izuku's relationship with other characters that aren't Bakugou and Todoroki. Like the Big 3, Recovery Girl, Shinsou, Iida, and even Kendou and Monoma from Class B. It's so good, you guys.
Also, long-haired Izuku is to die for.
Dialogue is good and natural and flows pretty well.
The technical medical information is, I assume accurate, and even if it's not, it's delivered so well and convincingly. So, even if it isn't accurate (I have almost no way of knowing), it still sells it with confidence, which is good when getting your audience invested.
Even though Izuku has a near infallible healing quirk, the story and characters (read: Recovery Girl) make it clear that he has to actually know stuff, too, and he can't just go around using his Quirk to fix everything, because there's always the possibility that he could fuck stuff up and make it worse on accident if he doesn't know what he's doing. Love it when characters have to actually know stuff.
There's a particular scene with Izuku and Kendou that had me on the edge of my fucking seat. It was so well-written and nail-bitingly tense that I almost passed out in relief when it was over. I won't spoil it here, but mind the tags if you decide to check it out. Suffice it to say, it's really good.

(no hate to the shippers) I think the biggest problem with the "female love interest" in bnha is that anything that went past the first chapters became one sided, empty and sometimes really impersonal.
One sided because the MC barely showed interest aside from pretty superficial things, and their development became very easily platonic very fast.
Empty because the mentions and moments where the "crush" is brought up don't go anywhere, and are acknowledge to bring her down and make her uncomfortable
Impersonal because some things weren't either exclusive to or about each other.
Like, just because she isn't a love interest, don't mean she will suddenly stop being important or that she won't be a close person to the MC anymore. They just aren't going to be romantic.
(no offense to izu/ochas, you keep shipping whatever you want, I will not judge, but keep your opinions on it to yourself off my posts please, if you have a problem, block me and/or just keep scrolling)
Oh absolutely! And even in the first chapters, they didn't know each other well enough to anything To Be mutual. It's always been either nothing or one sided, there's never been a moment where Deku had any feelings toward Ochako.
I honestly think that part of the reason she was even hinted at being a potential love interest is because Hori needed something to keep the people who could pull the series early from realizing what he was doing. He had the formulaic "he was a boy, she was a girl, can I make it anymore obvious" hetero romance starter. Izu/ocha basically became a beard for bkdk.
Now that mha is kind of "too big to fail", Hori can pretty much do what he wants, and the man is chaotic enough to not care if making his two main characters a couple get him blacklisted. He's got a pretty dedicated fan base on his own. He'll be fine.
I will say I wish he was better at writing the women in his story, and he has admitted to being bad at it. But if I'm being honest, he does way better than a lot of mangakas and authors in general with writing women and giving them the spotlight. Is he perfect? No. Does he give them the same attention as the main characters? Of course not, why would he?
Ochako has had some great moments, but that speech when they brought Deku back to UA? It could've been pretty much anyone. I liked that it was her, but Deku would've reacted the same regardless. Bakugou's moment in 322 couldn't have been done by anyone else. And their moments are consistently exactly that. Ochako speaks for everyone and could be replaced by anyone and get the same reaction. Bakugou's moments would not have the same howitzer-level impact (ha, see what I did there?) if someone else took his place.
I still believe that she's going to have some really great moments coming up, completely divorced of Deku at all, save for maybe some teasing from Toga that will be immediately shut down because it just won't be good ammo anymore. She's not the love interest and her character is better for it. She's a hero and is focusing on being a hero. If it were up to me, I'd still have her get together with someone in the future, I personally love IidaChako, and TogaChako is cute, although I'd want to see some development of how Toga shows her love.
Basically, if izu/ochas cared about Ochako's character beyond her being in the same old formulaic main characterxlove interest that typically makes female characters "important" in a story, they'd realize that for her to have an arc that is on par with Deku and Bakugou, she NEEDS to not be paired with Deku. She NEEDS to have her own thing. She NEEDS to not be shoehorned into importance through just being a romantic interest.
TL;DR Hori is doing a great job and I'm looking forward to the rest of the series, bkdk canon
Also Bakugou is going to survive, don't @ me.

okay so theory time. i think lou is really making it clear that episode 6 is the end of Tommy at the very least as Buck's love interest like the way he's speaking there's finality with that part of the story. Could Tommy come back in a different capacity as a friend for Buck maybe someone buck can confide in about the Eddie of it all sure absolutely. He's basically teasing it when he says I'm not gonna say why I know this is the end, because that would spoil the reason why Buck and Tommy break up and I think the reason why they break up connects to another Lou quote particularly when said if the fandom love Tommy now they'll love him even more by the end of episode 6. So by that I'm theorizing that the reason Buck and Tommy break up is because Tommy is going to realize that Buck and Eddie are in love with each other and he may pull the Buddie trigger to start moving them towards one another. Maybe he'll tell Buck that it was never his attention he was ultimately trying to get that it's always been about one person and he won't say the same but we know who he's talking about and he's like. You have feelings for someone else and you should figure what those feelings are.
Like I think this all connects to the finality Lou is speaking with when it comes to the end of Tommy at the end of episode 6. I think Tommy is the one that's gonna start the true push to Buddie going canon in some way. Very similar to Sam in New Girl when he basically told Jess in a mutual break up that it's always been about Nick it always will be.
The way Lou has spoken all about Buddie as well even when it wasn't asked by the interviewer is also loud, he's saying how he's rooting for them, he loves them together, how he thinks Tommy has clocked something more, how he always calls it a relationship. Like I think he knows this is all leading to Buddie romance imo.
He's just been very very loud with these two interviews.
We could be looking at a one two punch of Tommy leaving in 6 and Marisol leaving in 7, then we get the freaking combo of the guy that wrote episode 4 and JCC the infamous buddie writer for episode 8....like OH BOY.
Lou...as much as I love him, I don't think he really has any idea where they're planning to take his story. I think how long he stays would depend on 1.) fan reaction and 2.) does Tommy stick around push the story forward anymore? I personally think he could, so I'm not taking the speculation around episode 6 being his last as law.
I know it's super exciting right now because bisexual buck felt literally IMPOSSIBLE and then we got it, and then Eddie repression arc seemed impossible, but it looks like they're starting it, so we're all dreaming big, but as much as I am 100% percent certain Buddie is happening, I can't realistically expect it to happen in the next two or three episodes.
If it does, I'll eat my words, but for now, I'm keeping my episode-by-episode expectations realistic.

Mary from Twig
First Impression: "Oh, so the first major villain-of-the-week characters is a little girl? I guess that's appropriate given the main cast, but I wouldn't think they'd face off against something that thematically mirrors them like that for a few arcs. Cool idea, a shame that she's probably gonna be killed by the end of this." So yeah, I was not expecting Mary to be a reoccurring character. And once it became clear that she was joining the Lambs, I thought for sure she wouldn't stay for more than a few arcs before finding out how Sy manipulated her against Percy and turning against everyone. That was partially driven by me thinking she'd become a love interest for Sy and then we'd get to milk the drama of that relationship falling apart for a while. Was pleasantly surprised when that didn't happen, especially because it lead 1) to us seeing how Sy tries to contend with his nature as an incredibly manipulative person and trying to limit how much he hurts people close to him, and 2) led to the much more interesting "I'm fond of you but also I'd push you off a cliff if everyone else in the friendgroup didn't love you so much" relationship she has with Sy.
Impression Now: More interested in her for her relationship with other characters than I am in her as an individual personality. I kind of wish more had been done with her self-perception as a puppet/her desire to fulfill a perfect servitor role for whoever she's closest to. Don't get me wrong, it led to some interesting (in a fucked-up way) stuff with Lillian. But I kinda wish we got more from her interludes addressing how self-conscious she was of it, whether she tries to push against it or leans into it, how other people close to her react to it, etc. And I really wish I got more of a sense of how it meshed with her becoming a Noble. Besides the obvious change in power dynamics between her and Lillian, it feels like even accepting the change would have required some pretty intense changes in her self-conception, changes we never get to see. And yeah, it would probably weaken Twig as a whole to have a more extended ending exploring how all the Lambs felt about becoming Nobles. But still.
Favorite Moment: I really love the mock-fight she holds with Sy in front of the soldiers at Hackthorn. The skill of making it look like Sy is holding his own while also constantly signalling to him privately how many times she could have ended him....it feels like a pretty good encapsulation of their whole relationship. More than any other Lamb, I think Sy was thinking of Mary when he was setting up the looney toons-esque "you'll chase me from town to town and I'll stay just out of reach while casually checking in and giving you things to take credit for" plan in Corinth. With her more than anyone else, the idea of "lets play at fighting to the death while wearing the points we could have scored against each other as personal badges of honor" seems like an actually feasible way to spend a lifetime.
Idea for a Story: Like I said, I'd love more exploration of Lady Margaret, especially focusing on how she and Lillian handled it going forwards. Aside from that, I would probably want to see someone actually try to map out how her ill-fated mission with Duncan went.
Unpopular Opinion: I don't know if Twig has enough of a fandom for there to be enough big fandom opinions on Mary for me to disagree with.... her offscreen relationship with Gordon doesn't interest me? Was anyone invested in that?
Favorite Relationship: Her and Lillian. Its the most unhealthy mess I've ever seen. I love it. A super unsure-of-herself doctor and her best friend/patient/kissing buddy who acts incredibly confident and self-assured while having no idea who she is or what she wants. Stellar stuff. Could have been so much more.
Favorite Headcanon: I like the idea of her eventually meeting and hanging out with the rouge Ghost who Dog and Catcher partnered up with in Tynewear. Feel like they'd have a lot to talk about. Actually scratch what I said above, this is the story idea I'd be most interested in.

Silver Talks AniManga (08/10/23)
big catch up this week that had been a long time coming AND a buncha new anime doesn't even feel like it's me doing this, tho still not watching nearly as much as back in the day this is a good season tho, and there's even a buncha other good shows I'm not watching for a variety of reasons but anyway
green - new series/new to me pink - catching up
Tumblr media
Anime
Undead Unluck Ep1
WOW that was soo good??? what the hell. I mean it already looked good from the previews but still crazy to see it in action. I was a bit worried after how disappointing the mashle anime was, but UU is in much better hands god bless. really looking forward to see everything in motion, tho curious where it'll end since it's confirmed 2 cour. we'll have to get some more episodes to see at what speed they're going to have a better idea. but anyway, UU is very good and even if you don't read the manga the anime is really good so check it, just be warned the start is a bit crude with a bunch lewd stuff going on (like andy being naked most of the time) but it gets better and it's a really fun series, give it a shot
Tumblr media
Adult Precure Ep1
hey that was pretty good. I didn't know what to expect but it was nice. you can tell it was made for older audiences like that had said it'd be with them talking about some more mature topics and even saying stuff like the 2nd pic. anyway, no action or anything, it was just setting up (mostly) nozomi and rin a bit and hten meeting the rest of the cast. from the preview it doesn't seem like they'll transform on the next episode? so it'll prob be on ep 3. I just hope they have new cure forms as adults instead of transforming into their younger selves.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Imas Million Live Ep1
while this would've been a billion times better with traditional animation I gotta admit the cg models weren't as bad I expected, at least for the characters, there was some rougher looking ones for other stuff. however, I Am Not Immune To Idols and they got my ass, regardless of cg or not, so I can't complain much. I'll be very much looking forward to seeing my girls animated and this makes my expectations for the shinymas anime a lot better
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Frieren Ep5
good ep, had more action than I expect (which was 0 so not hard but yknow), buncha funny moments tho
Tumblr media
Manga
Jujutsu Kaisen Ch1 - 238
where do I even start huh. I hadn't read jujutsu cause it started at the time where I wasn't really reading anything but I've always had a general idea of what's going on cause of other people talking about it. my goal is to be reading everything on jump so I was gonna get to it sooner or later but because it seems it's getting close to the end that turned out to be sooner, but anyway. from the first few chaps I could see why it became so popular, the art's really good and the interaction between the characters was fun, but I didn't think it was THAT good to warrant it's popularity. that is, until I got to shibuya. up until here the series had felt kinda weird to me, like it was aimless or there was a lack of stakes but the shibuya really put things in motion and it was well structured. ofc the main point of the arc was to get rid of gojo since akutami wrote himself into a corner with how op he made him but yknow (I'm a gojo supporter btw). after that came the culling game, which was my favourite part of the series, you could really tell akutami was in his element and having fun just writing creative fights, however I could see why people would be getting tired of it cause it went on for a WHILE, and by the time it moved on it felt like it was more of the editor making akutami do it then it moving on naturally but oh well. if akutami ever does a series after this I hope it'll just be like the culling game with him being able to spread his creative wings and go wild with strange power fights. now the culling game is over and we're in what feels like the final arc. gojo got unsealed and fought sukuna, in a very cool fight, and despite being a big gojo fan I was content with the result. before catching up it just felt like he got unsealed and then immediately was gone again but the fight went on for quite a while so it wasn't actually that bad. idk how our cast is gonna get out this pickle now, but I doubt they'd let the bad guys win in a jump series so they'll make it somehow. anyway, I gave it a provisory 8/10, but it might go up or down depending on how things go from here. OH also I forgot to say but.. yuji is not a very good protagonist, he grew on me over the series but he's still p weak compared to most other jump protags OH ALSO ALSO, my favourite character is maki, I always love the "character with no powers that's strong enough to go toe to toe with the super powered people" trope, like rock lee or kenpachi, and she is that and I really liked her path until she got where she is
Tumblr media
Kill Blue Ch24
haven't talked about this in a while but we're just coming off a short arc where a lot happened, including ogami turning back into an adult somehow, tenma learning he's an assassin and noren getting hyptonized into thinking she loves ogami for real. that's what this chap was about, ogami going to school and trying to avoid her for that reason hoping the hypnosis would wear off. it was a good chap, especially that little action sequence at the end, good luck next week ogami you'll need it
Tumblr media
Blue Box Ch 120
a new school year has started and with that we get new cast members to shake things up a bit, tho I don't really like the idea of the new girl butting into taiki's and natsu's relationship when we just got done with the love triangle plot with hina but we'll see

⚠️DC vs Vampires #12 Spoilers⚠️Random ending feeling talking
So let's talk about the ending. Straight to the point, I didn't really get the purpose of the end. Barbara takes the throne and becomes the new lead, then leave humanity to what… hope? You mean Kara? Ok now it looks like you suppose to write an 800 words essay but you notice the topic after you have done 750 words already, and the topic is "Dawn of DC".
Tumblr media
Honestly, I don't know why DC wants to make every elseworlds connected or slightly stick to the prime world. It's not officially said that DvV is connected to the main story, but the ending title "Dawn" gave me the first thought of it. And have a look at the neighbor issue <Dark Knight of Steel>, it is labeled as Earth-118 in <Dark Crisis Big Bang>. Who knows what's next on the menu?
Tumblr media
Back to the #12 story itself. As a DickBabs fan, I can not say I didn't enjoy the bittersweet content between my two sweet potatoes. Dick Grayson looks stunning in his dramatic leather coat that we have seen several times and I still wanna thank whoever designed this for him, you did a gods job.😇 Babs on the other hand very predictable, she tricks Dick with a soft point and makes her "feed Grayson anything he never looks what he eats anyway" plans work. To me, it's quite disappointing that the story ends in a lover's way but the family's way. As I said earlier, this story begins with Batfamily. The tragedy caused by Dick's family, it will be perfect if it ends with the family (Damian). That will be the lesson you learn to go with your brain but your kidney.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
We have two characters who got their one-shot issues, Harley and Damian. Harley played her character as the poison blood, very important very badass. But what does Damian do? He fights Grayson once and in the end he just… waits downstairs? Damian should be a more useful character in the final battle.
If anyone remembers there are a few interesting foreshadowing such as bringing back Bruce with Lazarus Pit and magicians trying to reverse the vampirism. I was kinda looking forward to those contents but they just snapped.🥲 (You don't even give Bruce a proper burial?? Look at his half and broken body.🥲)
Tumblr media
Another unbearable fact, don't wanna be rude but what's wrong with all the guys in this story? Half of them were torn apart with one take, good guys are keep sacrificed for protecting the big guns. Even Superman can't stand till last. (Where the hell did you get the Kryptonite sword? Batcave? And I was hoping Supes will stand by Dick's side or something? That will be cool.)
Tumblr media
Let's see the big guns. We got:
Tumblr media
Barbara, Kara, Starfire, Harley Quinn, Mary, and Jayna. All girl's power, I'm not blaming anything, but Grayson are you keeping all the badass manpower to yourself but your family and… Green Arrow? What's on your mind?🤔
Tumblr media
Let's just say, I will give 6.5/10 for the whole DC vs Vampires arc. The story is twisty, the storyline is brave, and has some not-so-good character personality writing. Mainly because it brings out too many characters at once and can't focus on the group of its skeleton. We got a very handsome (but not so smart) Dick Grayson as Vampire King and let him be taken down by his lover. Old clich but suited for the dramatic. I still kinda want Dick to win the battle. Anyway, it's a good year for Nightwing fans and DickBabs fans already. Thanks for listening to my Ted Talk.

What’s your stance on Jex looking like they are able to say I love you to each other before Sprina. I’m conflicted tbh, because even though Sprina is getting the slow burn/old school, long term writing for their relationship, it does rub me the wrong way that they seem to be blatantly playing in Sprina fans faces. They have given Jex literally everything we wanted in the same of their months long relationship from the first kiss, the first time, the constant sex, and now the I love yous. Meanwhile, It took Sprina two years to get to the first kiss, and they know we are are waiting on the ILYs/first time. I get if the writers have a favorite couple, but can they chill on being so blatant about it because it’s not helping people like Jex more. It actually could be doing the opposite.
When it comes to pretty much all things Joss and Dex, this is my stance:
Tumblr media
I continue to think Joss and Dex are not well-executed writing wise. And as far as Dex professing his love to Joss, I will let Ewan Roy speak for me:
Tumblr media
I still don't really know who Dex is at his core or what drives him, so why would I care that he apparently loves the flighty college girl he's sleeping with?
I guess that's why I'm fine with Trina and Spencer doing things at their own pace because I feel like I know them better. To me, Trina and Spencer saying "ILY" is an exciting formality. To make the unspoken but understood, clear. Trina and Spencer have basically been saying they love each other for the past two years with their actions. So I'm looking forward to those declarations as big character moments for them since they both have struggled with being honest about their feelings.
I'm really focused on these milestones from the perspective of what it means for Trina and Spencer's character arcs, that's it. I don't really care too much about what they're attempting to do with Joss and Dex until they are shoved in Trina and Spencer's orbit and start screwing up their writing. As long as they contain them in their surface-level writing corner, they can do whatever the hell they want with those two.
Trina and Spencer are fundamentally different characters than those two, so I don't expect them to have a similar timetable to them on anything, and I'm fine with that.

Daki's Other Flower Motif?
This is going to be a little roundabout, grab an umbrella and come with me. I need to start by saying that my biggest grievance with Ufotable's adaptation of the Entertainment District Arc is that they gave it such a late autumn aesthetic. It was beautiful details, yes, yes, of course!! But those are details that should had been saved for the Swordsmith Village Arc, when matsutake mushrooms would still barely be in season, and Mitsuri was looking forward to those mushrooms so much that I will be heartbroken on her behalf if she doesn't make it to the village in time for them. But, in order to do that, they'd have to make Tanjiro skip out on his big nap. What a problem!
But also, I really, really liked that it made sense for the Entertainment District Arc to take place in the muggy rainy season. A big piece of evidence for this is in the background art of the manga, ajisai/hydrangea are in full bloom.
Tumblr media
Taking place in the rainy season means: 1. These are some of the shortest nights of the year. Put all together without slowing anything down for Tanjiro to think, the actual events of the fight with Upper Moon Six were very fast-paced. It goes to show dramatically a fight with demons can change everything so suddenly. 2. I know it would be her name all year round, but it makes the "natsu" in "Koinatsu" more on-point (though there's is a difference between tsuyu/rainy season and natsu/summer). 3, my biggest reason: The boys in makeup and kimono would had been doubly miserable in muggy summer, and that's funny.
I'm reminded of this now that it is rainy season and mentally shaking my fist at Ufotable all over again. So with that fresh on the brain, earlier today I was drawing a pink ajisai for unrelated reasons and thought, doesn't this look familiar?
Tumblr media
There are a lot of ways to draw ajisai, and the petals can be shaped in a variety of ways, so this perhaps doesn't immediately strike anyone as being an ajisai motif. Even staring at it now and wanting to find meaning in it I only find it vaguely ajisai-like, especially since they're associated more with four-point petals. That said, they can come in a variety of petal arrangements and shapes, but they are noted most for how their vibrant colors will change depending on the pH of the soil. While Daki is more associated with vibrant pink, there are touches of bold blue throughout her design as well.
Tumblr media
I was sort of willing to toss this motif idea out because the shape is vague and because she's blatantly associated with plum blossoms, with Ume having been her previous name. She's not named in honor of the flowers (bitterly named instead for her mother's disease instead), though she was indeed associated with them, being nicknamed for white plum blossoms (Shiraume-chan) by the locals when she was child, and by the samurai giving her a red plum blossom hair piece. If we take the plum blossom motif at face value in Flower Language (Hanakotoba), it doesn't make reference to an awful disease, but is instead regarded for meanings like "elegance" and "sophistication," "patience" which are kinda... hmm. Well, if we stretch for it's "beguiling, bewitchingly beautiful," "a strict sort of beauty," and "faithful/loyal," that starts to fit her better.
But you know why I came back to the ajisai idea? Because Gyutaro only sees her given name as cruel and unfortunate. He describes his sister as "easily dyed."
Which, you know, is like the #1 attribute most people associate with ajisai, aside from the fact that you see them in the rainy season. In fact, it's due to their striking color changes that they have Hanakotoba like "fickle," "a cheater," "betrayal," like how she was a two-faced Oiran, and especially when an ajisai is blue, it can also stand for meanings like "arrogance" and "you're beautiful but heartless."
However, it can also have positive meanings, like pink ones can allude to an energetic girl, or when it's a sort of white-ish green it can symbolize "a strong, enduring love."
Thanks for coming to my TaD* Talk. *Tsuyu and Daki

You're absolutely right. It felt like there was this great story happening, and then it just stopped. I wouldn't say stopped, I guess, but it is treading water, moving to a trickle, probably because of the draft and Roman being on vacation again, and it's really hurt the stories momentum. It's also unfair yo the Usos, Solo, etc, that are there at every show putting in the work, and doing the best they can with what they have, but you can only do so much when you have major pieces missing. I do think it's going to happen because they are still bringing it up in the narrative and hinting at it, but my concern it's not going to be as satisfying and as great as it could be because there's other people now that just walked in with a contract guarantee of a title shot they have to cater to when the story is right there simmering and burning for years with the Usos vs Roman. Look how people were up to Wrestlemania. People want it. They are hungry for that Jey Uso face turn. People pop like crazy when it's hinted at. The Usos get crazy pops when they come now, and they aren't even being played as tweeners anymore, and people still want it. They talk about finishing the story. THIS is the story. To waste it on either shipping the Usos to another brand, and that's how they solve the problem, no emotional pay off or even what the IWC and have the Usos help Cody beat which is even worse. THAT'S the big emotional payoff? WWE has this amazing story in arms reach and civil war in the bloodline. It's been building for 3 years, and the Sami story leading into the Jey story has people remembering, and it's hot. They want to see it. We are emotionally invested in these characters and their story, and going in any direction would be a HUGE mistake because THIS story brought a lot of people back. They want to see THIS story. We are waiting, especially after the last few weeks have been less then steller but there's that promise from before WM with the amazing work everyone did, the hints now no matter how small that that amazing story is brewing and they can pull off something real special or not. Sorry, I'm venting in your ask box, but there's that fear because it does feel like something shifted, but I don't know what that means. I like good storytelling, and it's there. I live you're mind for the story
no, you're totally right, bestie. that's the problem. it's sort of been placed on the backburner which, you know, is totally fine, if we saw the story just ticking over in the background. but the biggest issue is that we're not really seeing the story ticking over in the background, because roman isn't there. cody is an issue because he's obviously getting those titles, i have no doubt about that. i don't see the usos helping him, though. that's just wishful thinking, imo. the problem i have with iwc is that they have the most outlandish takes ever, and they don't actually watch what's going on. it's very much "i want this, i want this now, this is how it should happen" without thinking of the stories themselves, because the amount of people online that i've seen say jey doesn't even deserve to be the one who takes roman down... girl... in what fucking world is there anyone else on that roster who deserves to take roman down more than jey. be real.
but yeah, the biggest fear i have is that there's going to be no real pay-off, or something's changed and they've decided not to go forward with the usos (primarily jey, because i really don't think that jimmy turning would have anywhere near the same amount of impact) turning face, and that we're all just kind of deluding ourselves into thinking it's a work when in fact they're just genuinely doubling down as heel so that when the bloodline falls, they all fall. that it won't just be roman who goes down, but the usos, too, instead of giving them that redemption/freedom arc they so desperately deserve.
having said *that* however, i'm still somewhat hopeful. mostly thanks to smackdown when jey fought sami and saved him from the samoan spike because the reaction was still there. the desire to see jey save sami and side with sami is still very much there, and the desire to see jey turn face is still there. but, yeah. i think they do only have a very small amount of time to do it in now. either do it between now and backlash, or don't do it at all, because if we go beyond backlash and there has been zero repercussion for the usos losing the titles (and then probably losing them again if sami and kevin retain!!) and roman just doesn't show up, the whole thing is lost. having roman be absent so much is really damaging the storyline, because for a while, in the lead up to the rumble and stuff, we were seeing so much. we were getting story and progression and things were changing and it was exciting. but now we're just being told things. we're being told roman's upset. we're being told he's running out of patience. we're being told he's manipulating solo. we haven't actually seen a damn of it yet. and it is so frustrating.
