Trouble with object permanence when it comes to symptoms is such a weird thing to experience.

When you have disorders that evolve in 'episodes' or 'phases', it's sometimes hard to remember what's it like to experience these episodes and phases.

I think my memory issues play a key role in that too. (My memory's fucked mostly bc of traumas)

So I end up stopping believing I have such or such condition. Until the symptoms come back and I'm like "Oh."

When I'm not "up", I think "oh this is just depression". Until one day I start blowing up into arguments over the most little things and sleeping two hours without feeling tired because there is so much to create, it can't stop I can't stop just a little more and oh it's 8am already where the night went?

Thankfully I have enough rational brain still to realise what's going on and that I need to warn my boyfriend before I start making rash decisions about important stuff.

And it's the same with my other conditions. I'm not in pain? Well it was probably nothing and I don't need to ask a mobility aid to my doctor, or need to ask for another meds prescription. Until i suddenly can't walk down the corridor to the kitchen because all my joints hurt like hell. (And yeah I curse past-me in those moments when I don't even have pain meds at hand and I can't physically walk to the pharmacy)

I can't even remember my symptoms when they're not bothering me bc I'm not in a situation where they impact me directly. Which makes explaining my problems to doctors really cumbersome. How many times have I been brushed off just because I could not articulate what was wrong with me?

That is something that people needs to be more aware of, I think. That not anyone can recall and explain everything that's going on in them and in their lives. That it's not them lying about their problems.

It's just that brains are tricky things.

Carte de visite of a young cadet, c. 1860s. On the back, there is a very intriguing handwritten poem:

Cher Paul, objet de mon amour, Objet que j'aimerai toujours, Daigne accorder à l'avenir A ton ami qui t'en supplie, Dans ton coeur, dans ton souvenir L'heureuse place qu'il envie.

Which Google Translate turns to:

Dear Paul, object of my love, Object that I will always love, Deign to grant in the future To your friend who begs you, In your heart, in your memory, The happy place he desires.

Followed by a signature which might read "Ed Charruau" but I have difficulty making out the handwriting from here on. For that matter I am a little unsure whether that's really a "Paul" or a "Saul" or some secret third thing.

And below that, there is a note in a different, much messier hand that is largely illegible to me apart from a few tantalizing words—"amour" (underscored!), "admissible," "nécessités de la" (...what??), "toujours," "après"—dated 1884.

I can say with some confidence based on the style of the photography, the uniform, the photographer's backstamp and the card itself that this cdv dates no later than 1870, which means it is twenty-some years after this love(?) poem that someone writes this addition and I am absolutely dying for even a guess at what it reads! What happened? Did things work out for Ed and Paul(/Saul/?aul)??

Or... is this possibly actually all much less romantically charged in French actually (oh the irony), just guys being guys composing bro poems of platonic duditude to each other, as they do? Or less gay—could Paul/Saul/?aul somehow be a girl's name/nickname?

IRL Sixsona Designs Pt. 2: Makeup Edition

Hey y'all! This is second in a series of a few extra sixsona posts that @lightleckrereins and I are doing this week. The first post is here, showing the real-life vinyl inspirations we used!

This time around, I'm doing yet another hypothetical: what makeup would be used for each sixsona design!! My list of makeup recommendations for Six cosplayers is probably the post I'm second-most proud of (after sixsonas ofc). When I was initially working on that I kept seeing makeup that would be perfect for some of our sixsona designs, so because I have absolutely zero chill of course I had to figure out the full makeup plots for each.

The basic rules were - one glitter - one eyeshadow palette - and two additional products to fill in any gaps, as needed (this included fun stuff like an extra glitter or liquid liner, but also practical things like additional eyeshadow shades when needed or a liquid base for more sheer colors)

About Comfort Zone and why is wrong used - Long Rant

Lately I been seeing a ton of people talking about the Comfort Zone, about how we can only grow if we step out it and all that, but mostly everyone forget to mention a little detail: The majority of the people have no Comfort Zone.

Let's back to the roots and copy and paste what wikipedia say about it: A comfort zone is a familiar psychological state where people are at ease and (perceive they are) in control of their environment, experiencing low levels of anxiety and stress. Bardwick defines the term as "a behavioral state where a person operates in an anxiety-neutral position." Brené Brown describes it as "Where our uncertainty, scarcity and vulnerability are minimized—where we believe we'll have access to enough love, food, talent, time, admiration. Where we feel we have some control.

So, the basic "rules" of the Comfort Zone says:

A) People must at ease and in basic control of their environment.

B) People are experiencing low levels of anxiety and stress.

C) The uncertainty, scarcity and vulnerability are minimized.

D) With well access to the basic needs (food, water, shelter, health care, hygiene, money, love, education, clothes, sleep, security... Pretty much the 3 basic levels of the Maslow's hierarchy of needs)

So, if you "fail" in some of the 4 basic "rules" of the Comfort Zone, you pretty much didn't have Comfort Zone.

Let's breal up that thing a little...

If you are not at ease (disconfort, anger, pain, sadness, uneasy, worried, etc), you are lacking Comfort Zone.

If you are not control of your environment (toxic/ traumatic house, abusive relationship, under manipulation, migration, homeless, disabled, etc), you are lacking Comfort Zone.

If you are experiencing high levels of anxiety and stress (pathologically high, unhealthy levels of it, panic attacks, floating anxiety, depression, PTSD, mostly all the mental illnesses), you are lacking Comfort Zone.

If you are uncertain, in scarcity and vulnerability (be part of a minority, experience racism, bullying, LGTBQIA+phobia, fatphobia, etc) and lacking some of the basic human needs, you are lacking Comfort Zone.

And if you are experiencing ALL OF THAT, you have NO Comfort Zone.

Now, let's have in mind the kind of world we are living currently... Many of us didn't have not even the basic level of the damn Maslow's pyramid and we have a "bingo" of a lack of all the 4 basic rules.. and the huge majority at least lack one of them... Why keep pushing about the Comfort Zone?

As a start, the main objetive of the Comfort Zone is self growth, things that are over the two basic layers of the damn pyramid. You NEED to have you BASIC NEEDS satisfied to focus in self growth. I'm not saying that you CAN'T pursue self growth if you are lacking them, but trully, your energy and mind have more urgent things to attend...

Example, myself. I lack of money and health care, I struggle with afford food and basic bills, I'm disabled and VERY neurodivergent, I suffer of Chronic Clinical Depression and Chronic Pain (with no meds and treatment because lol money) and I have problems to sleep, besides another huge chunck of issues. Do I try to grow as a person? OF COURSE! But I will not put myself on risk, for it. I need to grow in a way that I will not collapse because I haven't my basic needs covered. I DON'T HAVE COMFORT ZONE, so my growth must adapt to the little I can afford myself to do. I can't step over my Comfort Zone because I DIDN'T HAVE ONE TO START.

I repeat, you can't leave your Comfort Zone if you don't have it.

So, for the love of Maslow, people, stop to suggest to everyone to "step out the Comfort Zone" when, except some lucky ones (eat the rich), mostly of the normal people is struggling with not become homeless.

It feels invasive, like pushing us, and make us think that we are not growing enough and getting mentally better because we don't go out our "Comfort Zone". Feels like if you are drowing and some say "haha now try to swim with a shark and touch it, you will grow with that experience"... I'M DROWNING, I CAN'T BREATHE, I CAN'T EVEN OPEN MY EYES UNDER WATER, HOW I WILL TOUCH A SHARK?

Next time, be gently, be empathic. Self growth is great, but do it in a safe gentle way, that there are enough suddenly events in real life that will kick you out of your Comfort Zone by force, or even break your Comfort Zone, sometimes to the point that you will not have anything left.

Stop pushing, stop to add struggles when you are struggling every second of your life. Prioritize. You will have until the last second of your life to grow as a person, focus in your safety. Focus in create your Comfort Zone, in making it bigger, stronger. I want to see you happy, healthy and safe. I love you.

C'est une aventure particulière de toucher l'autre, cela suppose de trouver le juste milieu entre la spontanéité et l'autorisation, cela impose d'être pleinement attentif à celui qu'on touche, d'avoir la délicatesse de la demande. L'autre jour, je lisais ceci : "toucher, c'est investir le seuil de l'autre et lui signifier sa présence". C'est parler sans dire, c'est raconter. C'est faire de cette communication muette une fusion, une absolue concentration, qui ne demande qu'à se poursuivre, qu'à s'étirer vers ce qu'il nous reste d'infini. Toucher, n'est pas posséder. Toucher, c'est aussi être touché. C'est faire de cette réciprocité le plus grand des enjeux relationnels, la double expérience simultanée d'un être objet et sujet. Car l'acte de toucher n'est pas neutre, il implique la personne dans sa globalité physique, dans ses capacités sensorielles et perceptives et dans sa présence humaine. Ainsi, l'expérience de toucher est une expérience de l'humain ; le toucher est un toucher de l'autre, la rencontre avec une personne, mais aussi la rencontre avec l'humain, l'humain de soi et l'humain de l'autre. Le toucher renvoie à l'haptique, qui désigne la dimension tactile du monde, mais qui contrairement à l'optique ou l'acoustique, ce mot n'est presque jamais utilisé. Claire Richard, dans un livre, ivre de sensibilité, écrit ces mots : "on se touche de moins en moins dans la civilisation des écrans. Au point qu'au Japon, des bars à caresses ont ouvert où l'on peut commander un câlin en même temps qu'un moka".

Shadow of the Moon

summary: you’re a young woman living alone on the outskirts of the village of hawkins, who just so happens to be a witch and perhaps the only hope eddie munson has w/c: 1,130 warnings: prejudice, mentions of blood and injury a/n: so this whole thing kinda just grabbed me by the 🐱 if i’m honest, it’s just the idea of those swoopy white shirts with the big sleeves and the tightest trousers known to mankind, if you like this please reblog it so others can find it as well! so many thanks to @pillow-titties for helping me plot this out

For as long as you could remember you'd never lived in one place for any great length of time. Always having to leave suddenly in the middle of the night, or hearing that you had till sundown to gather your things and leave, that was the life of someone like you. Someone with powers. A witch they called you, they were right.

You'd come to Hawkins a year ago. It was one of the larger villages in the area, loomed over by the great Gothic Castle of King Robert Harrington who had lost his wife the winter before you had arrived, to hear the villagers speak the King had never been a warm man but he had never been cruel but the death of his wife had shut something off inside the King.

His son, Price Steven was seen less and less outside of the castle walls those first few months. Everyone assumed that he would be grieving the death of his Mother but rumours from those who worked in the palace suggested otherwise. People said that the King expected too much from his son, that according to the King the Prince ought to be just like his father but Prince Steven favoured his mother more.

You had come to know all this and more from a young man named Dustin and his friends who had offered you their services after witnessing how you were treated in the village your first few months. How scared people became when they found out who or rather what you were. The immediate change in behaviour of a shopkeeper who only moments ago had been more than welcoming and helpful to now asking you to leave his business.

Dustin and his friends offered to get anything you needed from the village so you wouldn’t have to go in yourself and be treated the way you were. They had promised never to tell a soul what they were purchasing the items you requested for or indeed for whom,

“We’re really good at keeping secrets” Dustin had told you

You were want to believe him if the way their little group huddled around one of their member. A girl called Jane who seemed to sense things more deeply than her peers, you knew exactly what the world would do to a girl like that and it warmed your heart to see how protected she was.

You mainly kept to yourself, with Dustin and his friends got you anything you needed from the village and sometimes came to watch you work but most days it would just be you and your books.

Girls came from the village, the way they always do, asking for love charms. They wanted the objet of their affections to notice them, wanted true love as so many often did. You also produced a large number of charms to catch the eye of the Prince himself, he was a handsome young man and you could certainly see why the village girls and even those who worked in the palace itself would want to catch his eye.

Although local gossip had it that the Prince had already taken a lover, a girl who worked in the palace named Robin. They were reportedly never apart and this of course led many to believe that the two were involved somehow.

The children laughed when anyone mentioned it. They were all apparently quite close with the Prince, much to the outrage of his father, and they called the rumours stupid and baseless. There was nothing more than friendship between Prince Steven and Robin,

“Platonic with a capital P they call it” Maxine had told you, “Steve’s a good guy but because he’s important or whatever people all think his business is theirs too”

“How very wise of you Maxine” you’d laughed, “do you not wish for your prince’s attention too!”

“Ew, gross”

You’d laughed, thanked the children for their help for the day and gone about your business. It would seem that despite how the village at large felt about a witch living in such close proximity to them it didn’t bother the children or their parents. Will had told you that his Mother and Father thought it was a good thing, to help someone the way he and Jane were helping you.

You’d heard the same thing from Lucas that his parents tended to agree with Will and Jane’s parents. Apparently they’d all grown up together and so then had their children. The only one who seemed surly about the entire affair was Michael and after being pulled aside by Dustin it was revealed that Michael’s father was one of the most outspoken voices in regards to your living situation and his Mother was simply distant, he had an elder sister but she had since left the home and gone on to live a new life.

You found yourself growing more and more fond of this strange group of children and you hoped they were as fond of you. It was nice to have friends, even if they were so much younger than you.

It was one of the darkest nights since you’d moved to Hawkins. You’d known the storm was coming and made all the necessary preparations, there would be things that needed to be done for your craft when the storm had passed and you were spending the time reading while you waited for the storm to pass.

If anything the storm didn’t seem to want to pass by Hawkins at all, it was rattling your windows and the wind howled down your chimney. It sounded for all the world like the world was ending outside, you hadn’t experienced a storm like it since you were a child.

The sound of banging alerted you to someone at the door to your cottage. They were pounding the door as heavily as they could and yelling something that was being silenced by the sound of thunder rumbling overhead. Was this it? Was this the mob come to chase you from their village in the dead of night?

There was no light outside that you could see so perhaps not? Or perhaps their torches had simply been extinguished in the pouring rain. Something told you though, that you should open the door, that this was important.

So open it you did.

What you had not expected to find that evening was the Crown Prince standing in your doorway covered in blood with a frantic concerned look on his face, Dustin at his other side equally covered in blood and frantic and held up between them a young man with a mess of dark curly hair bleeding profusely and hardly breathing,

“Please, you have to help us” Steve spoke, “help him, please”

Bernhard Roetzel

Le luxe s'achète, le goût s'acquiert, l'élégance est innée. Bernhard Roetzel est l'auteur de manuels d'éducation du goût portant sur les détails de la culture occidentale. Ses livres illustrés Der Gentleman (1999) et Traditional Style (2000) sont des reportages photographiques de chaque aspect concret de la Culture européenne: le vêtement, l'ameublement, les arts de la table, l'éducation des enfants, l'ordonnancement urbain, la classification des loisirs, jusqu'à l’entretien d’une pelouse, au cirage des chaussures ou à la préparation du pique-nique champêtre. Ce sont là des choses connues? Pourtant nous redécouvrons à neuf chacune d'entre elles, ressuscitées, à la lumière de photos et de commentaires dont l'efficacité sont sans concurrence dans ce domaine. M. Roetzel est un réenchanteur de tout ce que nous aimons dans le monde.

Il y avait davantage de sagesse dans le concret des gestes quotidiens de nos grands-parents que dans la pseudo-philosophie du 20ème siècle. Vivre ainsi aujourd'hui, en Français traditionnel, est une voie ouverte à qui veut la prendre: la Culture Européenne détaillée par Roetzel est intemporelle ; la forme de cette Culture touche à une perfection qui ne souffre ni ajout ni retranchement.

Nous vivons au milieu des pièces d'un fabuleux héritage et y sommes accoutumés au point de ne plus même le voir. Ce faisant nous perdons l'usage de ce legs, oublions d'où nous venons, qui nous sommes et ce que nous faisons.

Un homme annonce-t-il vouloir diriger une ferme, un village, une ville ou une région? Pour évaluer la confiance à lui accorder vous étiez jusqu'ici habitués à écouter ses discours. Vous examinerez désormais la manière dont cet homme a dirigé son propre domaine: son jardin, sa maison, son studio de 20 mètres carrés, sa toilette du jour. L'homme fidèle en peu de choses est capable de grandes choses dit l’Evangile.

Notre monde du tertiaire, du débat, de l'abstrait, est rempli de directeurs de cabinet mais vide de chef de protocole. Aux "valeurs" il est bon de joindre les actes. C'est la stature, l'incarnation, l'exemple vivant qui nous donnera sans recours aux mots les clés de la vraie Culture. "Je n'ai point besoin de sermon mais de délivrance légère" disait Céline.

Der Gentleman est à la fois une encyclopédie du vêtement masculin, jalonnée d'encadrés, de bonnes astuces, et une notice d'utilisation, un vrai mode d'emploi de la vie pratique. Si Der Gentleman constitue le catalogue de l'Européen habillé, Traditional Style explore le cadre de vie de ce même homme. Ces deux titres complémentaires ont pour objet ce que les peuples occidentaux ont produit de plus beau, de plus intelligent, de plus pratique, bref d'objectif, au point d'y convertir le monde entier: porter un pantalon, manger avec des couverts dans une assiette, s'asseoir sur une chaise, dormir dans un lit. La fenêtre, le savon, la salle de bains et mille autres objets spécifiquement occidentaux sont eux aussi devenus objets universels. Roetzel a expliqué, illustré chacun de ces éléments considérés dans leur finition la mieux aboutie.

Est-ce en raison du fameux "esprit de système" germanique qu'il fallait que Bernhard Roetzel, allemand, fût le pédagogue le plus complet sur la culture anglaise, par exemple? L'Angleterre, l'Italie et la France sont des revendicateurs bruyants d'un certain art de vivre. Il existe en Allemagne une classe d'esthètes ignorée du reste du monde et peu soucieuse de s'en faire connaître. La bourgeoisie patrimoniale et industrieuse de Cologne, Munich, Hanovre, Brême, Hambourg, aux bourgeoisies très Heimat, connaît bien ses codes culturels : habitat, vêtement, sport, éducation, voiture, art et artisanat. Une bourgeoisie probablement plus raffinée, plus enracinée que la parisienne, que la londonienne, plus sérieuse, plus discrète.

M. Roetzel est un sujet qui s'efface pour ne montrer que l'objet, la chose en soi. En cela il rend davantage service à la cause qu'il sert que les "sartorialistes" montreurs de costume issus du youtubage. Seule doit demeurer la Culture, dont le vêtement et l'ameublement sont des catégories "superficielles par profondeur", parmi d'autres.

La production d’une Culture est la preuve de la Conscience de Soi d’un peuple. Les primitifs ne produisent pas de culture. Plus un peuple a de Conscience de Soi et plus la Culture qu’il produit est codifiée. L'exaltation de l'intelligence individuelle est une marque de basse époque, source de divisions hélas durables. La Culture, elle, est une intelligence collective, un pacifique ensemble d'habitudes forgées par l'expérience concrète de la vie, un tissu de réticences du Je en faveur du Nous, une science de la sous-expression (understatement), un code de reconnaissance communautaire à usage interne pour l'exercice du Bien Commun. La Culture était très understatement jusqu'à la fin des années 1990, avant les années Eden Park, avant la vague tapageuse du faux preppy, du genre gala d'école de commerce, lorsque l'argent était encore une chose un peu honteuse et que les classes sociales d'avant internet vivaient dans un relatif cloisonnement. Charme discret de la petite bourgeoisie locale, où êtes-vous ?

M. Roetzel écrit non en conseiller en mode mais en technicien de la culture attentif aux faits, aux actes et aux objets qui équipent celle-ci, il rédige un rapport d'enquête renseigné, neutre, qui démontre chaque argument par la photographie appropriée.

Le vrai style ne peut être sujet qu'à un ou deux changements mineurs par génération. Contrairement à la mode le style est stable, sa supériorité n'est pas dans le renouvellement cyclique de nouveautés mais dans le perfectionnement d'une Forme qui vise la plus pure exactitude fonctionnelle. L'ergonomie du vêtement bien pensé, l'importance de connaissances en anatomie pour former de bons modélistes, vastes sujets qui sont la voie royale du bel habillement.

Deux principales tendances accaparent les hommes: ils sont plutôt exhibitionnistes ou bien plutôt voyeurs c'est ainsi. Les exhibitionnistes sont la majorité de ce monde qui gît au pouvoir du mauvais goût, individus à haute estime de soi et basse conscience de soi. Monsieur Roetzel appartient au tempérament exactement opposé, celui du voyeur, celui des hommes en retrait qui aiment voir et n'être pas vus, qui ont tout compris et que personne n'écoute, c'est pourquoi ils écrivent.
