Dark Blood Chapter 29: Fragmented Light

Trigger Warning! This Chapter contains depictions of rude humor, blood, gore, mutilation, decapitation, cannibalism, death, grotesque horror, and body horror. Reader's discretion is highly advised.

Everyone immediately got to preparing the mansion for defense against the incoming attack. Cane started growing hundreds of trees to make a wall all around the field and Mansion. Kyle used his blood to make indestructible spikes on the mansion and the mansion's walls to keep the Arkum's from ambushing them again. Isabell had her leather armor on and had her maids make more for everyone else. Cane made more large trees, but these ones would be easy to climb and therefore could be used as watch towers. Sarah and Sound then used their powers to destroy the road in front of the mansion so that Cane could expand his walls surrounding the field and the mansion could connect. Oliver and Olivia escorted the younger kids inside the mansion, left them with food and water, locked their doors so they wouldn't try to escape and barricaded them from the outside to keep intruders out.

Of course, Mike wanted to fight, which lead to a debate of whether he should or not. On one hand he had an ability that was guaranteed to hurt and maybe even kill Insaro but on the other hand he was still a kid and couldn't use his powers for long. the vote was eventually cast to no, as such Mike was left with food and locked in a room like everyone else, thought Kyle also left Grizz in his care. Mary and Ella then passed out the leather armor they made for everyone, and Kyle gave them a coating of his indestructible blood for extra protection, he did the same for Isabell's not that she needed it.

Everyone and everything was ready for the battle, now there was nothing left to do but wait. The kids on the watch trees were looking in all directions, keeping a look out for falling trees which might indicate Insaro and his army. At first, they just saw random Arkum's and Fallen wandering and sneaking around the woods but then they appeared less and less until the forest was quiet once again. After an hour or so everyone started to relax a little and sometime after that they started to get bored wondering how long it would take Insaro to show up. Then one of the kids on watch heard a faint sound of a tree falling but couldn't see anything.

"Hey everyone! Heads up! I think their coming!" Everyone then got up and got their swords out. The final battle was coming, everything led to this. This battle would set the first step to taking back their home from the darkness.

"Done! I'm finally done!" Everyone then focused their attention on Carl who was trying to crawl out of a hole on the side of Cane's wall.

"Carl?"

"The hell are you doing man?"

"I did it! I made a trap for the freaks!" Carl was trying but failing to get out of his hole so two Elkins kids went over to him to help him out.

"You made a trap for the Arkum's?"

"What trap? I don't see a trap."

"it's right here!" Carl then pointed at the hole he was trying to get out of.

"a hole?"

"Not just any hole, a trap hole! Insaro is strong so he's gonna try to break through this wall and when he does, he will be too busy laughing about how awesome he thinks he is that he won't notice the hole he's about to fall in! Its genius!" Everyone started at the hole but then focused back onto Carl with looks of disappointment.

"I tried being nice at first but now I just don't care anymore, Carl you're an idiot."

"Guys trust me this will work, I just need some leaves to cover the hole."

"Carl, don't you think that if he falls in the hole he can just jump back out."

"... Kyle I'm also gonna need your blood for pit spikes." Just like everyone else, Kyle thought this was stupid but still, he did entertain the idea of it coming in handy, so he used his blood to make indestructible spikes at the bottom of the hole. Cane then made a flat bush grow over the hole to help it blend with the ground.

"Ok good whatever, now get a sword and some armor already before you get killed!" Carl, feeling enthusiastic, did as Jackson asked and got ready to fight just like everyone else, feeling sure his trap would work.

"Hey guys! how close is Insaro now?!"

"He's in sight now! It might only take a few minutes for him to get-" then a projectile looking like a black spear hit the watch kid and all the others from all directions. They all fell to the ground hard but thanks to their armor they were all fine as they landed on the ground. some kids tried to run over to them and help but that was when the sounds of trees falling getting louder and louder. Since they weren't badly hurt the other kids quickly got up and ran to the group and got ready their swords and weapons ready to fight.

Instantly, the tree wall was blasted open, leaving a large hole in it for an army to come through. Some were pushed and fell down because of the explosion but overall, thankfully everyone was ok and got up quick enough to see the large hole in the wall that remained. As the smoke cleared Insaro walked through with a little girl who had white skin, pink hair, a pink shirt with the word princess in sparkling text, green pants and a pink skirt however it took a second look to tell since her clothes were soaked with both red and black blood. Her skin was corpse pale and her eyes her death black like Virdis. Kyle knew Insaro had more Fallen but what really frightened him was that she was holding Insaro's hand like he was her guardian. She let his hand go and he slowly walked toward Kyle and the others calmly with that large smile on his mask like face.

"Well look what we have here! A bunch of brats armed and ready to die for their pathetic light! However, I'm willing to make you all an- WAAAH!" Insaro had fallen into the hole Carl had made. Suddenly there was silence on both sides, no one knew how to respond but then Carl started cheering.

"Ha! I told you it would work! in your face you black blood freaks!" A second later Insaro jumped out of the hole covered in scratches and dirt with a large frown across his face and his eyes glowing in anger.

" You! you will have the worst death!" Carl was filled with fear and completely confused on how his trap didn't work.

"grrr... I mean come on! Who even makes pit traps anymore! Ok you know what, its fine! It's fine. It's fine. IT'S FINE! I'm not here to kill senselessly... well, not yet at least. I want to make you, yes you, Kyle and the rest of the Zerku, a deal!" Kyle looked back to the others while some looked at him it was clear that everyone was wondering what Insaro could possibly offer them.

"What do you want and what's in it for us?"

"Simple, I want you to join the order! And in return you will live purposeful lives under order of the dark goddess! As well as the blessings of Lord Grim." This sounded like nothing better than willing slavery and Kyle was not having it and neither was anyone else.

"Why the hell would we ever want to join your shitty group?!"

"Oh Jackson, I know you and I had our differences with you wanting to save humanity while I wanted to destroy it. And also, that other thing where I killed Tyler but, hey! I'm making you an offer that won't let you die a pointless and pathetic death like him!" Jackson and the other surfers were immediately enraged by what Insaro said. Kyle didn't want things to get out of control so he changed the subject before anyone would start to fight.

"and what's the guarantee that your vision of a world without humans is better than one with them?"

"Imagine the world given back the life that was taken by the humans! Imagine Mother Nature and all of her beloved creatures restored and living in a peaceful and orderly eco system instead of having to kill one another for survival! With the black blood its possible! They can live peacefully side by side, predators and prey alike! And you can live with them with no need or desire for money or technology! Everything will be perfect!" Dolo and Occisor then looked at each other in concern.

"Oh yeah? I saw you and your monsters cutting down and killing all life that was in your way."

"All success takes sacrifice. You of all people should know that. Now I don't care whether you believe me or not I just want to know who of the Zerku will join or die?" Nobody thought anyone would actually surrender and join Insaro, but they were proven wrong when Cane, Simon, and two others stepped forward to take the offer.

"I had hoped more of you were smart, but it seems only about four of you actually have any brains... I mean that metaphorically, obviously." Everyone was shocked and outraged that these four have betrayed them, especially the farmers who were shocked because of Cane's betrayal.

"Cane! What the fuck are you doing?"

"Guys I love nature. This is an opportunity I never had until now to grow back the forests that have been cut, torn, and burnt down."

"but that was our dream too! We were supposed to help you!"

"Sorry guys, he said only Zerku and you guys are humans, Sorry but that's just the way it is."

"you bastard." Cane then looked at Kyle who was deeply enraged.

"This is how you're going to end it all? By throwing everything away! By letting those who trusted you die! By letting the Arkums make this world rot!"

"Rot is a good mulch for plants."

"You piece of shit!"

"You were our friends! We trusted you!" Now everyone was voicing their hatred for the four who decided to side with the darkness.

"Guys I'm sorry but this is how things are now. You just have to get over it and accept it."

"you're a fool if you think this will work out in your favor!"

"you're a fool for not doing the same thing I'm doing."

"Why would we join an asshole like Insaro?"

"Because the humans are just holding you back. Zerku are so much better than humans. We've always been the superior race. If you disagree with me then you're wrong because that's just how it works." Now a farmer girl who used to work on the gardens with Cane was crying. Kyle noticed her crying and it only filled him with rage, and he knew exactly where to direct that rage towards.

"YOU COWARD! DIE!" Kyle had only ever been this angry towards his own parents, as such when he unleashed his wings, he charged at Cane with full intent to kill. Cane, however, didn't move, instead he just stared back at Kyle with sad yet soulless eyes. Kyle threw a punch so strong it knocked Cane's head off and sent it flying. Or at least that would have happened if Insaro didn't stand right between them and took the punch to the face. Kyle had no idea how or why Insaro got in between them. Kyle was shocked at how fast Insaro was, but the confusion quickly turned into agony when Kyle saw his fist was broken and bleeding. It was the first time in a long time that he had felt pain to such a degree, and it did not at all feel good.

Kyle forced himself to ignore the pain as he made his blood from his hand back into a fist and coat it in indestructible blood armor. Kyle reinforced his bloody fist with spikes and threw the strongest punch he could while aiming right for Insaro's core. However, to Kyle's dismay, the blood spikes and armor shattered like glass on impact not leaving a single scratch on Insaro. Insaro's smile grew wider as Kyle's face and everyone else was filled with fear.

"You seem confused. Don't tell me you already forgot. I already told you, destroy me all you want I'll always come back better than ever! That's another one of the many gifts of Lord Grim and his black blood. The more damage we receive the stronger we get once we're done regenerating and since you used your blood on me in our last encounter, it won't do shit to me!" Insaro's walked closer to Kyle until he was quite close to him, Insaro was now staring down on Kyle like a bully intimidating their victim. Kyle's heart was beating extremely fast, he was very scared not just for himself but for everyone else. He had given their leather armor a layer of indestructible blood thinking it would be enough, but it turned out to be just as useful as adding a layer of paper.

"Shit? Papa, what's that?" Insaro's expression then turned from smiling to surprised, he then looked at Kira.

"Kira you can't say that."

"Why not?"

"it's an uh... adult word..."

"but aren't I technically six years older than you?"

"Kira, just don't say the word, ok?" Kira then pouted in annoyance while Insaro's expression turned from shock to disappointment. Insaro then faced Kyle again who was looking that both in confusion. Kyle couldn't believe that Insaro the demon was having a seemingly normal conversation with that little girl.

"Ahem! and since you so kindly did the same to my allies, Malum and Quae-Suun are immune to your blood too as well as your wings! this really should be common knowledge Zerku, if you wanna kill an Arkum you gotta do it quickly... Oooh! I can feel your delicious fear growing and the same goes for them." Insaro's face split open like a flower, only it was actually a giant monster mouth. Monstrous tongues came out and thrashed in the air like disgusting snakes. His face then returned to normal, letting him talk again.

"it's like meat serving itself! Making sure to only be served with the best sauces and spices! Hahahahaha!" Kira was seemingly drooling as well, soon all the other Arkums, freaks, and Fallen started laughing and grinning at the sight of the kids being scared. However, before the army could advance Insaro raised his hand and immediately they all halted; Kira halted as well but also crossed her arms and huffed in annoyance.

"But before we kill you all I would like to get to some things out of the way. Kira dear if you'd please." Kira looked surprised but instantly smiled for she knew what Insaro was referring to. Kira then closed her eyes, then her pentagram formed, as her bloody arms sprouted out, they reached for the wrists of Cane and the two others but not Simon.

"Hey what gives? I want to join too-" Suddenly Simon's head disappeared, and his body collapsed on the floor. In the following second Insaro raised his hands up and showed that he was holding Simon's head. Surprisingly, Simon was still alive but couldn't think or function properly.

"I- I w- wan- w- wanna- ... wa- what just ha- happen- ed."

"Oh god that's fucked up." Jackson and the other kids were both horrified and disgusted at the sight.

"I think I'm gonna be sick."

"I could smell your greed the moment you stepped forward. Greed makes you no better than a rodent." Insaro's face split and he ate Simon's head, Cane and the other two looked horrified but that was when Kira pricked their hands and the symbol of the order formed as the black blood started to spread.

"Mmm, delicious! Well now for you new recruits I want you to think about something that makes you depressed, sad, angry, and stressed." Cane and the two others closed their eyes and did as Insaro asked. After a few seconds they started crying blood and the pentagrams formed on their back and tentacles sprouted from them. Canes were green and thin like jungle vines, the first of the other two had tentacles that resemble earthworms, the second of the other two had black tentacles with purple spikes on them.

"Aaah! Fine additions to your army my dear! Now on to that other thing I wanted to do was to challenge Kyle to one final duel." Kyle had no idea of how to respond to this, but he looked around and saw everyone so scared and drained of hope. He didn't like that they all had to experience such terror, but he did like the idea of only him and Insaro having to fight. Kyle figured that if he won this fight, he could convince the other Arkums and Fallen to surrender or leave.

"Fine, I accept your challenge."

"Hehehe, this is going to be fun."
