❗️Important Note❗️
There will in fact be a part three! While I was writing part two, it ended up becoming so long that I just decided to split it up. That’s why this chapter leaves off on a cliffhanger (and that’s also why it took me so long to post this one). But I thank you all for your patience. If anyone else wants to be tagged for part three then let me know in the comments! :)))

“Can I please ask where exactly we’re going?” Reiner questioned, his voice lacing with a hint of annoyance as Falco gripped his arm, anxiously pulling him towards the city’s back alleys.
“I told you it’s a surprise! A friend of yours wants to say hi before the show starts!” Falco explained, glancing backward at his superior with a cheerful smile as he continued to pull him in the opposite direction.
“Is that right?” Reiner spoke sarcastically, scoffing quietly to himself as he took in the boy’s words.
What was Falco really up to?
Surely the whole “a friend wants to say hi” explanation was made up; because Reiner Braun wasn’t exactly a man you would think of as having friends.
Sure, he was surrounded by people a lot of the time, and he even had allies with whom he got along pretty well with. But even so, Reiner knew he was nothing more than a comrade to them; nothing more than a vessel to wield the armored titan.
But that was okay, because they were nothing more than comrades to him.
With being born Eldian as well as being a warrior for Marley’s military force, Reiner Braun didn’t exactly have the time, luxury, or frankly, the mental strength to seek out any social interactions beyond strictly work-related ones.
Well, at least, not anymore.
He made that mistake once, and in doing so, it cost him the demolition of a poor woman’s heart; as well as his own.
In fear that opening up to another person again might cause that beating vessel in his chest to truly see itself past repair, Reiner Braun had decided to close himself off from others, refusing to repeat those tragic events of his past.
So, with that in mind, who exactly was this “person” that Falco was happily dragging him by the arm to see?
It couldn’t have been anyone he was genuinely close with; there wasn’t anyone like that for him, not anymore at least. Any authentic connections he once had with people were now severed, collapsed by the calamity he caused back on that forsaken island.
So who on earth was he being forced to see?
“It’s just in here!” Falco said excitedly, his finger pointing toward a wooden door as they rounded the corner; one that lead to a basement stationed under an older apartment complex.
From the outside, the place looked dim and run down, its location secluded to a quiet and unfrequented street.
The very sight had Reiner scratching his head in confusion. Of all places, why here? Why pick such an isolated area to meet with him? Not only that, but why would this person send a naive little boy to escort him to this place instead of just contacting Reiner directly?
Was this a trap he was walking into?
Should he leave?
Like a flame set to brush, panic began spreading through Reiner’s veins. His free hand was gripped into a strained fist and his eyes darted in all directions, watching out for any surprise attacks.
If this really was a trap, if someone was anticipating charging at him, then he’d be ready for it.
Suddenly, the wooden door opened. Loud groans from the beat-down hinges filled the air, followed by the sound of footsteps; footsteps that belonged to a dark, hooded figure.
Reiner’s eyes widened at the scene before him, an eerie feeling twisting in his stomach as he watched the mysterious person walk out the door; heading in his direction.
Whoever it was, he thought about fighting them off, even going as far as raising both his hands in the air to assume a defensive stance.
However, that’s when he caught a glimpse of Falco next to him. The little boy had started to head towards the figure, almost as if he was acquainted with the human; if it even was human.
“Falco wait!” Reiner quickly followed in the boy’s footsteps, gripping his arm before he could walk any closer to the person. “We should leave.” He suggested, anxiously tugging on the boy’s limb in hopes to urge him back in the opposite direction.
“It’s okay Mr. Braun,” Falco smiled, quick to reassure his superior. “This is where he said to meet him.”
Who’s he? Was it that person lurking around with the cloak draped across their face? Or was there someone inside as well?
Reiner didn’t have any answers, nor did he have a definite resolve on how to react in this situation. Should he trust Falco’s judgment and allow this “meetup” to happen? Or should he grab the boy and run while he still had the chance?
The latter seemed like the best option, especially considering the fact that Falco was just a child, and therefore could’ve easily been manipulated into something dangerous.
He wanted to trust Falco’s words, but it was too risky. If something happened, the boy’s blood would be on Reiner’s hands; and he couldn’t bear the weight of any more sorrow, or any more guilt.
“We’re leaving, Falco!” Reiner insisted, readjusting his grip on the boy’s arm to forcefully pull him away from the situation.
Although, just as he’d turned around to take those first few steps, he heard something that made his body freeze, and his heart clench.
“If you’re done arguing you can go on ahead. He’s waiting for you inside.”
That voice. Reiner knew that voice.
It was the same one he used to hear nagging at him to wake up in the early mornings. The same voice that used to comfort him whenever he was feeling disheartened.
It was… the same voice he never thought he’d have the pleasure of hearing ever again…
All he received was one simple sentence, but that was all the verification he needed. There was no doubt in his mind, the voice he heard: belonged to you.
“Y/n?!” His body immediately turned around to face the hooded figure. His eyes then squinted, trying to see more than just the gentle silhouette of a pair of lips and a jawline that was exposed by the moonlight’s glow.
The figure froze at his words, saying nothing in response; almost as if they didn’t anticipate being recognized.
“Y/n, is that you?” Reiner asked again, hoping to earn a response this time.
However, there was none; at least, not a verbal one.
All he gained was a sudden flinch that occurred once he spoke that name a second time, followed by the subtle shaking of fingertips that poked out from the sleeves of the cloak.
You must’ve been scared, embarrassed; perhaps even both.
And who would blame you for it? The last time you saw him he had slaughtered more than half of your comrades. Who knows what he’s capable of now after four years have passed?
“Falco?” Reiner finally broke the silence, glancing down at the boy he was still holding on to. “Why don’t you go on inside, I’ll be with you in a minute.”
However, before the boy could open his mouth to speak, he was quickly interrupted. “There’s no reason for him to leave! I’m not staying to chat.” A stern voice echoed past the cloak covering your face, but that didn’t phase Reiner.
He knew it was you from the moment that first syllable left your lips, even more so now that you’d spoken a second time.
Your tone was serious, added with a hint of aggression in order to scare him off, but he wouldn’t be turned away by that. Not when this was the chance he’d been silently praying for ever since he left that island four years ago. The chance to finally see you once again, even for just a moment.
Now that this chance was finally here, standing in front of him, there was no way he’d let it slip away; regardless of the tone you used with him.
“Just a few minutes?!” He insisted, taking a few steps forward in case you were preparing to run away. “Please?” He asked in a much quieter tone, his eyes practically begging for you to give in, to grant him even the smallest portion of your time.
Even after all these years he still knew how to persuade you, didn’t he? He must’ve, otherwise, your mouth would’ve never opened to let out a frustrated “Five minutes and that’s it!”
Reiner’s shoulders quickly relaxed at your words. His head then turned towards Falco subsequently, giving him a quick nod of his head: which apparently was his signal to “get going.”
Falco’s gaze switched between Reiner and the person he was apparently dying to speak to. The boy was unsure of what was going on, or who that unidentified person even was, but nevertheless, Falco knew better than to argue with his superior; so he’d comply with the orders given to him.
“S-sure…I’ll just, be inside then…” Falco spoke hesitantly, slowly backing away to walk toward the wooden door. He stopped momentarily after placing his fingers on the handle, almost as if he was waiting for Reiner to change his mind. But after receiving no signs of a change of heart, Falco reluctantly opened the door and stepped inside; closing it behind him.
The moment that wooden door shut, an unpleasant silence filled the air. Instead of partaking in the “conversation” you were supposed to have, the two of you just stood in silence.
You didn’t dare speak up. Reiner was the one who made you stay after all, if anyone should be the first to start this conversation it was him.
Your eyes were fixated on him with a calloused glare, your lips refusing to part even the slightest bit.
Reiner on the other hand, wore an expression more timid and anxious than yours.
He shifted uncomfortably on his feet, fingers fidgeting with each other as he contemplated the best way to start this conversation.
“I uh…” He tried to speak, but the words fumbled in his mouth, leaving just as quickly as they came.
It’s ironic, just a moment ago he was begging for you to stay so that he could have the chance to talk to you, but now that his chance had finally arrived, he couldn’t think of anything to say.
As he stood there, overanalyzing a potential response, he noticed the way you scoffed, clearly annoyed at his delay in response.
You were growing impatient with him, and if he didn’t take the opportunity to speak with you now, you’d most likely never allow him another chance to waste your time again.
So, after what had seemed like hours of silence, when in reality was more like 1 minute, Reiner finally spoke up.
“Can you take off the hood?”
Your eyes quickly narrowed in confusion at his odd request. Out of everything he could’ve asked, everything he could’ve apologized for, this is the first thing he says?
“Why?” You questioned, still unsure of his intentions on the matter.
“I just…” He began, but his words quickly started to fade out, almost as if he felt unworthy to be asking in the first place.
Nevertheless, you were persistent.
“You just what?!” You snapped, frustrated at his apparent dedication to withhold information from you; a recurring dedication at that.
“I just…” he inhaled shakily before speaking, “I want to see your face.”
You paused at his words, taking a moment to process what he’d just said. After expecting something pitiful, or perhaps even bitter coming from him, it was quite a shock to receive this: a fairly tender request.
He wanted to see your face? Why? What difference would that make?
It’d be the same one he saw four years ago, nothing’s changed; at least, not to you.
Despite asking for something which would require him to look upwards, Reiner kept his eyes glued to the ground, as if he felt undeserving to see you again. It wasn’t until he heard the heavy sigh that jerked past your lips, along with the quiet “fine” you gave in response to his request that made him finally look up.
As his gaze lifted, watching you pull that gloomy hood off your head, Reiner was met with a flashback of memories.
It all reappeared in an instant: the sound of your adorable laugh, the way your hair looked when the sun glistened across it, even the small little habits he’d discovered about you as time went by; they were all coming back, recollecting in his mind clearer than if it all happened a day ago.
Reminding him, painfully, of a time when things were simpler, when he was happier, and, most regretfully, a time when he had you.
Pulling off that hood allowed him to finally lay eyes upon a face he hadn’t seen in ages. A face he used to watch soundly sleeping next to him at night, placing gentle kisses all over when no one was around.
It was the same face he used to stare at in fascination; taken back by the beautiful way your lips would curve upwards into a smile, or even the way your eyes radiated the most alluring shade of color when the sun shone across your skin.
That face was one he had desperately longed to observe once more for the entirety of four long years, and coincidentally, it was the same face that now stared him down with an irritated glare.
Absent was the sparkle your eyes once held for the man standing before you, and gone was the loving countenance you were never hesitant to grant him.
Now your face lay still, your features refusing to move even the smallest bit in case it were to form some sort of pleasant expression towards him accidentally.
Who was this woman?
If not for the fact that he had easily identified her face, Reiner wouldn’t have recognized her.
Where was the kind and loving woman he fell in love with? Was she not the one standing before him now?
No, this woman was different. This one seemed to hold an inkling of abhorrence towards him, easily provoked by just his presence alone.
Was this… the product of his own making?
Was this… what he’d turned you into?
As if he wasn’t tormented enough by his decision, now he was witnessing the consequences of his actions unfold before his very eyes.
“How.. how are you here?” Reiner stuttered, still in shock over the fact that you were actually standing there; that for whatever reason, his prayers to see you again had finally been answered.
“I’m only here in service of a friend; nothing else.”
Your response was so vague, so cold; nothing like the endearing way you used to speak to him.
“Which friend?”
“It doesn’t matter,” You replied forbiddingly. Your tone sounded so distant, so unfriendly towards him.
To think, the last time he heard your voice, it had told him “Goodnight, I love you.” But now that voice was harsh as it spoke, probably regretful of saying those very words after waking up to find out he’d abandoned you that next morning.
The difference in your tone was beginning to eat away at Reiner, straining that beating vessel in his chest more and more with each look of your indignant expression. As if you’d just picked up a shovel and started digging, deepening his guilt further than it already was; if that was even possible.
“Your minutes are up by the way, and I have to leave.” You suddenly spoke, hoping your statement was bleak enough to end the conversation, meaning you could finally leave; finally be free of him.
“Wait!” Just before you could escape, Reiner quickly reached forward and grabbed your wrist, clinging to it as if his life was hinging on it. “Wait please, don’t leave…”
“That’s rich coming from you.”
He deserved that. Honestly, he deserved more than that.
Call him whatever names you could think of, and he would let you, he’d allow every single one of them, no matter how excruciating, because he knew they were true; because deep down he knew he deserved them.
“I’m not interested in what you have to say, Reiner.” Your words were like knives to his heart, causing the already aching organ to shudder yet again. “Whatever it is you should’ve said it four years ago.”
Was that true?
If he really did explain it to you before he left, would things be different now? Would you have understood his situation? Understood why he had to do it?
Why he had to leave?
“Please,” he implored, desperately maintaining that grip on your wrist. “Please, just let me explain it to you.”
It was pathetic, how he was begging like this, pleading for you to stay and hear him out as if he wasn’t the one that left you in the first place.
“Nothing you say will change what happened.”
He knew that was true, but in spite of that, he still refused to let you go again without telling you, without apologizing at the very least.
“I know,” he admitted, a glossy haze shimmering in his eyes as he looked at you. “But please, I want you to know the truth.”
A part of you wanted to leave, to deny him any further chances to cause you more pain with an explanation. However, another part of you wanted an apology. You wanted to hear his side of the story; to hear whatever excuse he had for abandoning you. No matter how twisted, or pitiful, his reasoning was, you couldn’t deny you had questions you wanted him to answer.
“Fine then. Tell me.” You quickly adjusted your posture, staring at him with your eyebrows raised; a gesture he remembered you only used when you were serious about something.
“Why did you betray us?”
Here it was, the moment he had been waiting for since this conflict arose: his chance to finally be understood, to be seen as more than just the traitor he was made out to be.
“I was given orders,” he started, retracting his hand from your wrist now that you’d clearly abandoned the option to run. “I had no choice but to follow them.”
“And what were your orders?” Your voice sounded heavy, almost as if it was hurting to bring all this back up again; like a wound that was still fresh, still desperately trying to heal itself.
Reiner’s mouth remained shut, his head lowering as he closed his eyes, not wanting to answer your question. He knew he’d be made to look like the villain no matter what he said, no matter which way he worded it.
Did that mean he really was the villain?
In your eyes, maybe.
Perhaps you’d never accept his side of the story, never be able to see past the wretched sins he’d carried out. But regardless, even if he never got the forgiveness he so desperately wanted from you, he couldn’t hide from the truth any longer. It was time to embrace it, all of it.
“They told us to sneak in and make allies first, that way we had the people’s trust and no one would suspect us.” He sighed, his eyes refusing to look up at you in fear of the face you’d make upon hearing his confession. “Once the time came, we were ordered to steal the founding titan by whatever means necessary. And if anyone tried to stop us, we had permission to silence them, using whatever tactics we deemed fit.”
Reiner’s heart felt tight as he let those words out, his shame growing stronger now that he was remembering it all, remembering what he’d done.
How did things end up like this?
He was just trying to do what he was trained to do: save the world from ruin; that’s all. But here he was now, that mission an embarrassing failure as he reminisced on his actions; the same actions that caused such sorrow for so many people, including himself.
And as if things weren’t bad enough, as if Reiner wasn’t feeling guilty already, he heard a sudden change in your breathing that could only mean one thing: you were beginning to cry.
“No, wait!” His head quickly lifted to look at you, instantly regretting it as your distressed face came into view. “Please, don’t cry.” He begged, using his thumb to wipe away the liquid collecting on your skin; which you surprisingly allowed him to do without putting up a fight.
“Don’t cry, okay? Not for me.” He demanded, despite his own eyes welling up with tears as well.
He just couldn’t bear it, knowing he was hurting you yet again.
It was almost as if nothing had changed, even after all those years. As if he was reliving those horrors of his past once more, reliving that anguish he saw imprinted across your visage when you found out he was the armored titan; the same armored titan that had killed so many of your friends.
You didn’t understand it, even now.
Was the man who used to dote on you really the same person as the one who carried out such violence and hatred against your people?
How could that be true? How could he have done such a thing, committed such betrayal against the woman he loved?
What changed? Was it something you did?
Or perhaps a more gut-wrenching explanation: he never loved you to begin with. Maybe that’s why it was so easy for him to give you up, maybe, this was his plan all along.
“What else?” You asked, your voice trembling in the process.
Reiner’s face quickly scrunched in confusion, unsure of what you were getting at. “What do you mean?”
“Were those your only orders?” Tears quickly began trickling down your face faster than Reiner could stop, your gaze looking more despondent than ever. “Was there really not anything else?” Your lips parted to let out a stinging sob, one that seemed like it’d been held in for too long.
It was obvious you were waiting for some sort of answer from him, and every second he delayed with a response was only tormenting you further.
But, even so, it didn’t change the fact that Reiner didn’t understand what you were asking of him; or what you wanted to hear so badly.
Your eyes stared at him in sorrow, more tears absorbing into your skin before you asked your question one last time; phrasing it differently now.
“Was falling in love with me a part of your mission too? Was I just another means to accomplish your end goal?”
Reiner’s heart convulsed at your words, his mouth agape to let out a pained gasp.
Did he just hear that right?
A tool?! Is that really what you thought? Is that really all you assumed you were worth to him?
As if you could ever be such a thing.
Granted, he understood how you may have assumed that, given the matter of his betrayal and all. But, despite that, he never expected such an absurd accusation.
There was a wide range of names you could’ve called him: a traitor, a liar, a monster; anything, and he would’ve accepted it; He would’ve owned up to it.
But this: questioning whether or not his affection towards you was genuine; that was one accusation he’d never admit to.
You were never a tool, you weren’t even a part of his plan to begin with. Falling in love with a woman of Paradis wasn’t exactly one of the orders he received when he was assigned to that mission. In fact, getting involved with you went against the sole purpose of him being there; the sole purpose of his assignment.
He was sent there to exterminate the Eldian race, to wipe out every last one of those despicable beings so that the world could finally be safe.
Falling in love wasn’t an order laid out in his job description at all, much less with a woman of Paradis. And yet, he did.
Reiner was a strategic man, he wasn’t one to easily abandon orders, no matter how difficult they may be. That in itself should’ve been enough to prove his affection toward you; because he never would’ve done such a thing had he not felt it was worth it, had he not felt you were worth it.
Nevertheless, here you were, teeth gritted in frustration as you impatiently awaited his answer.
Your face spoke only of torment, and it pained Reiner to have to witness it. The way your eyes were slanting together in an unsuccessful attempt to subdue your tears, your fingers curling into fists to help better contain your irritation, all of it was a clear sign of the repercussions his decision to abandon the woman he loved had caused.
It was just like the last time, you were falling to pieces over him once more, and Reiner couldn’t stand the sight of it.
Your gentle cries may not have been as loud and mournful as they were four years ago, but it didn’t matter; the fact that you were even crying in the first place was enough to make that twisting sensation return to his stomach; possibly becoming permanent at this rate.
Reiner stretched his arm out to grasp your hand, hoping to console you, however, you quickly backed away, refusing to let him touch you.
“I don’t want your pity!” you spat, your fragile body trembling from both the anger and suffering fueling inside. “I just want the truth! Did you ever love me?”
Was that even a question?
Yes, he was fully aware that it would’ve been hard to believe the authenticity of someone who’d abandoned you; someone who so easily decided to turn against you, as if doing so didn’t phase them in the slightest.
But regardless, ignoring the heinous crimes he’d committed, did you still believe he never loved you?
Were his actions before this messy conflict never enough to convince you of his sentiments?
What about all the times he’d hold you in his arms, whispering to you about how happy you made him feel? Did you really not believe any of that? Was he pouring out his heart’s inner-most secrets for nothing?
Or what about the times he’d surprise you with food, despite rations being low? He almost got caught stealing food for you so many times; which was unwise of him considering the fact that it could’ve possibly had him kicked out of the survey corps: meaning his whole plan to infiltrate the military would’ve gone up in flames.
Or, perhaps how he’d always try to keep an eye on you during missions, making sure you never encountered something too dangerous for you to handle. You always complained that he was being too paranoid, but it was only because, unlike you, he was aware of the kind of power titans held; the kind of pain they could’ve, he could’ve, inflicted upon a tiny human being.
All he ever wanted was to protect you, to do what was best for you. Did you really never realize that?
Even after he made Annie and Bertholdt promise not to lay a hand on you during their countless fights with the survey corps, even after all the times he put your saftey before his own mission, was it still never enough?
Even when he left you behind, did you really never consider the fact that he could’ve been doing it because he thought it’s what’s best for you?
You would’ve never been safe with someone like him, so he spared you from that danger by leaving.
Even though he caused you much pain by doing so, did you still never put that together?
“I understand if you don’t believe me when I say this,” Reiner began, “But I never stopped loving you.”
Even before any words left your lips, the doubtful look stringing along your face was enough to tell Reiner that you didn’t believe him; or were highly skeptical at the very least.
“If that’s true, then why wasn’t that enough for you to stay?”
He’d asked himself the same question so many times before. Why didn’t he just give up on his mission and stay with you? It’s not like he wouldn’t have preferred that option in comparison to the one he chose.
Why didn’t he just let the Marleyans presume him dead, forgetting his life in Marley and starting a new one with you on Paradis?
He wanted to, he considered it even. But there was one factor he was forgetting that made all the difference; one tiny reminder that convinced him to abandon that option in the end: you deserved better.
If he stayed behind like you would’ve wanted him to, like he would’ve wanted to, then he would’ve been living a lie; deception would’ve been rooted at the heart of your relationship.
He would’ve never been able to fully open up to you because doing so would mean he told you the truth about his past, about where he’s from and why he came here in the first place. He’d have to fabricate every detail about his life up until this point; tricking you into believing he was born inside the walls just like you. He’d need to have an excuse for everything: why his parents weren’t around, where he was born, what his home life was like, everything.
Nothing about his life would be real anymore, from the moment he’d wake up, to the second he drifted off to sleep at night, he’d be living a lie.
Every time he’d look at your innocent expression he’d be reminded of the secrets he was keeping from you, the lies he was tricking you with; and he couldn’t live like that. He refused to live like that.
“Staying would’ve only put you in danger, so I left, taking the danger with me.”
“I see.” Your voice was strained, as if you were having trouble processing everything. The shock from seeing him again so unexpectedly still hadn’t exactly worn off yet, and with the addition of all this new information piled on top, you didn’t necessarily know what to say; or how to react.
So, instead, you remained silent, hoping some ideas might materialize inside your head as you waited.
However, you weren’t kept waiting for long because Reiner quickly took an initiative to speak once again, asking something that left you stunned,
“Is it okay if I kiss you?”
Your head quickly flung upwards to look at him, contemplating whether or not you heard him right.
“What??” You asked, aghastly, desperately hoping you misheard his question.
“Is it okay if I kiss you?” He repeated, unfortunately proving that your ears were working just fine, and that you did in fact hear him correctly the first time.
He only meant it as a farewell, nothing more.
He knew this might very well be the last time he ever saw you again, so, with that in mind, he wanted to leave you with something pleasant to remember him by.
He had every intention of letting you go, he’d walk away and you’d never have to see him again afterward.
Just one last memory with you, that’s all he wanted. One last moment to reminisce on the merriment of his past before he let you go for good.
That’s what he wanted at least, but, when you finally uttered a response, he realized it might’ve been too much to ask for.
“I’m with someone else now, Reiner.”

Armin Arlert x Reader
Synopsis: you’ve been in Marley for a couple months now , you’re finally seeing Armin again
Tropes: long hug, eye contact, pre-existing relationships, yes the lowercase is intentional, first person pronouns because it’s you
i’ve been in marley for a couple of months now. i’ve only risked contact with eren once. he made me promise to not ruin this mission, he said he had everything in place to make it work. still, i didn’t love the idea that he was bringing everyone here to, very suddenly, bring ruination upon this town.
i’ve seen children running around. families, friends, relationships. the eldians have formed a community, everyone on the eldian side of the gate knows one another. they’re a family. to think that eren intends to destroy this town of eldians—not even the marleyans—even if they will be there these are still eldian homes he will destroy. it makes me nauseous to think about it.
reiner is here. he has a cousin who he treats more like a sister. she has a band of friends. they all want nothing more than to prove they’re good eldians and kill everyone back on paradis which, i’ll admit, makes me more than a little violent when i think about it for too long. but i always remind myself that this is all they’ve been taught, it’s all they know. i remember my boyfriend is back on paradis and the feelings of violence come back but then i see this girl and her own personal blonde and i have to remind myself once again. it’s an endless cycle.
i haven’t been able to come into contact with eren again—it’s too much of a risk, as he continuously reminds me. but i’ve been watching, very closely, from the sides. he’s been talking to that little blonde reiner’s cousin/sister is going to be stuck to for the rest of her life—assuming they both survive this. it makes me nervous seeing eren with him but i don’t think he’d go out of his way to hurt the boy so i’ve yet to intervene.
on the day i know eren intends to ruin these people’s lives—worse than they have already been ruined—i’m anxious beyond repair, i’ll just have to sit with it. even if this goes perfectly we’re still sure to lose some of our own and kill entire families on this mission. i’m nauseous again.
eren convinces the boy—falco to bring reiner to him. i sit just out of range of the explosion eren will surely set off when he transforms. i can’t hear them but i know what’s being said. eren’s revealing himself, reiner is scared out of his mind, and falco is shocked. i just hope that when he does transform that falco will be okay. he’s a good kid.
some long haired blonde man who’s very clearly important to all of these people is giving some speech about killing the island devils on paradis when eren finally transforms, decimates half of the people gathered together, and then eats said man. this, of course, causes the actual war hammer titan to make herself known. there is something of a fight between them but really eren just gets his ass handed to him by being skewered a few times. but that doesn’t stop reinforcements from coming.
i can hear the odm gear zipping by. i know my friends are here. it makes me smile but then it makes me nervous. i would prefer they all be out of harm's way—eren hasn’t allowed that. so we’re all fighting for our lives in unknown territory. the goal is to spare as many of our own lives as possible, capture zeke, and get eren out of here alive.
honestly, we look like we’re going to lose. they have the war hammer titan, the jaw titan, the beast titan, and the cart titan. if zeke were actually against us we’d surely be dead. but still, it looks mildly bleak. but i know what our power play is. i know what eren will have forced them to do. forced him to do. even though knows he hates it. even though he knows it goes against everything he believes in.
i see it in the distance. i hear it everywhere. i can almost feel it in the air. the explosion. i know what it is. i know who it is.
without thinking, i take off running towards the blast. i’m zipping around on my odm gear, reaching maximum speeds. i’m weaving through and around all the buildings and straight to the port.
by the time i get there, everything is decimated. things still shine with the light of a burned-out fire. these people were scorched and all of the land in a five-mile radius is crushed. there will be no survivors. no one will live through this if they’re not dead already. no one but the boy who caused it.
he’s just ripped himself from the nape of his titan's neck when my feet hit the ground. i stand before his titan, the size of a small bug from where he sits atop it. i look up at him, overcome with emotion and frozen in place.
when he looks down and spots me i can feel his eyes. i can feel his gaze upon me. it warms me everywhere his eyes travel. he’s slowly registering it’s me, he doesn’t believe it yet. he doesn’t want to get his hopes up if it’s not me and instead someone who’s about to shoot at him.
i smile despite myself, feeling my eyes pool with tears. i don’t try to blink them back like i usually would. he knows me then.
he inhales sharply and in the next moment he’s zipping down from his titans body and towards me. “y/n!”
i laugh helplessly and dart towards him. we’re running at each other with all we have, really. i’ve never run faster. this is the new record. i thought i was fast getting here. this beats that by a long shot. i can see him. he’s 100 feet away from me. 80 feet. 50. he’s so close, how could i not run as fast as i possibly can? 20 feet. then 10.
as soon as i can see every cut and bruise on his face, his titan marks, the blue of his eyes—it’s like as soon as i see him it’s like i leave battle mode. it doesn’t matter that we’ve both been fighting for our lives out here. we’ve nearly won now. we’re going to leave with only a few casualties of our own, eren, & the war hammer titan. it will be successful as long as we continue as we have been. my resolve dies and we’re just so close now. i’m jumping over charred corpses & rubble from the destroyed town. i’m running as fast i can to my favorite blonde. “armin!” i choke out, suddenly so close to sobbing i can feel the tears falling.
i’m sure it’s jarring to see me like this. usually so stoic and unmoved in the fast of terror or tragedy, reduced to a puddle of tears at the sight of a boy i’ve loved all my life.
his breath hitches again and when we embrace it’s with such equal force we stand completely still, absorbing each other's energy. we’re panting and holding each other like the contact is the only thing that allows us to breathe. one of my arms is wrapped around his neck, hooking it in the bend of my elbow while my other hand is pushed into the hair at the back of his head. he’s holding me so tightly around the waist that he’s nearly lifting me off the ground—i’m on my tiptoes.
i squeeze my eyes shut and take shaky breaths to stop myself from crying. i’m surely shaking in his arms, not to say that he’s not shaking too—because he is. i just can’t stop.
“armin, armin, armin,” i whisper it again and again like a chant and a promise.
i can feel his heart beat against my own chest. our hearts are working to match the other's pace. our breathing synchronizes, our hearts beat as one, it’s like we’re one being.
he pulls back just enough to look me in the eyes before wiping away my tears. his own eyes are filled with so much emotion it almost brings my tears back. he closes his eyes and leans our foreheads together.
i reach up and cup his face in my hands. he opens his eyes and does the same to me. when our eyes meet and hold contact i can’t help but let out a weak, wet laugh. my thumbs gently trace over his titan marks with a feather-like touch. the only sound is of our breath & the ocean behind us at the port. “hi,” i say without thinking.
he laughs quietly, “hi.”
for a long moment, we stay like that. wrapped up in each other and the moment. i’ve gone soft around the edges, i’m no longer alert and sharp. i don’t know exactly where the sound comes from when i hear it—and that makes me nervous.
it’s a voice that calls for us. it makes me pull armin to me, holding him tightly, shielding him. i look around to pinpoint where this voice is coming from. it makes me uneasy to be on a battlefield but feel so at home just because i’m in his presence. it makes me nervous to not be so sharp, so prepared, so ready.
finally, i spot jean. he’s off in the distance. we can’t quite hear him but it’s easy to make out the waving arm that tells us to get to him quickly. he’s not very calm about it.
i relax a little, happy it’s a friend who requires an answer to their call versus someone with a gun. my hold on armin doesn’t loosen much. he sighs against my neck, he’s relieved too.
“i think it’s about time to catch our ride home,” armin says softly.
i nod against his shoulder where i rest my forehead. i smile a little. “i’ve been missing home… missing you.”
he slides his hand up from its place on my back to the back of my neck. “you won’t have to miss me again. we won’t be apart again.”
“that’s wishful thinking,” i joke sadly.
he doesn’t say anything because he knows i’m right. he just pulls away and takes my hand. when he starts to lead us over to jean i quickly use our joined hands to pull him back to me. i put my hand on the back of his neck—mostly to steady myself and then lean on my tiptoes to kiss him. it’s long and emotional but really that’s all it is—emotional. there’s no deeper meaning behind it, no lust. it’s just something that says, “i’m so happy to have you back. never leave me again. i love you more than anything. let me keep loving you.”
when i pull away i simply take the lead in walking and pull him along behind me—he’s still a little dazed for the time being but he snaps out of it quickly enough. we walk together to jean. i’m sure we’re supposed to be in a hurry, i know this airship will leave without us, but we can’t seem to make ourselves run.
when we get to our friend he shoots armin a look i don’t quite understand but he says nothing of our joined hands, which i appreciate. he doesn’t hesitate to remind us that if we don’t make it to the rooftop rendezvous spot we will not be going home. on that very blunt note, the three of us book it to the roof.
armin’s hand is soft and warm in mine. he’s like home for me. he’s safety and happiness personified. he’s always been there. he’s been the love of my life since the moment i laid eyes on him and i don’t ever intend to take my eyes off of him now. not again. he and i are in it for the long haul… assuming we all survive this.

Until I See You Again
| part 2 >>
recommended listening:
It had been a few months since the raid on Liberio. You remembered your reluctance to hop onto the airship and leave Paradis Island. You couldn’t remember what it was exactly that made you hesitate other than a daunting feeling that you couldn’t get rid of.
You remembered your mobility gear failing as you flew through the night sky, desperately trying to find your way back to the airship. You remembered getting caught in an explosion and getting bombarded with sharp pieces of shrapnel as you lost control of your body. You vaguely remembered Levi calling out your name, although you weren’t sure if you had just imagined that or not.
The next thing you remembered was waking up in a stranger’s bed. It seemed that one of the Eldian families that lived in a part of Liberio that wasn’t as affected by the raid had taken you in. Although your injuries were not fatal, they were severe enough that you were under their care until very recently. As a result, you found yourself woefully unaware of the details of the war that had recently begun.
It was agonizing for you to be forced to stay in bed and rest, being taken care of by complete strangers as the war raged on around you. Once you were finally up and moving, the end of the war had passed and Liberio was in absolute chaos.
You had desperately tried to find information on the state of Paradis and the Eldians that had once inhabited it—the ‘island devils’, as the Marleyans would call them—but there was so much misinformation floating around that you couldn’t be sure what to believe. Some said that the island had been abandoned after being flattened by the Rumbling. Some said the last few survivors perished during the final fight with the Founding Titan. Some said they fled and mingled into Marleyan society. People said a lot of things and you had no idea which ones were true. You had even considered trying to travel back to Paradis Island to figure out the fate of your people and more importantly, the fate of Levi Ackermann.
You waited. You spent weeks waiting, hoping to hear more solid news over what had happened. You continuously mingled around the public spaces, hoping to pick up information, or hang out at the port to see if you could find your other half amongst the refugees.
You waited for weeks, yet you found nothing. You desperately wanted to continue waiting on the off chance that you might run into him, but you knew that it was more realistic to assume that he had perished during the climax of the war. Every time you saw someone that looked even slightly like him, you wanted to run to him and embrace him. Every time you looked closer, you saw that that someone was never actually him.
You sighed as you held a small hand-sized water lantern with both your hands. You had purchased it around two weeks ago as you emotionally prepared yourself for this moment.
You slowly kneeled down to the ground with a heavy weighted feeling appearing in your chest. Everyone was gone. Levi was gone. You couldn’t imagine living your life without him, but you had to. If nothing else, you had to try—and in order for you to try, you had to let him go.
As you had that thought, you gently dropped the lantern into the water, having lit it up on your way over to the dock. You sat and watched as it floated off away from the coast and towards the ocean.
“Until I see you again,” you whispered underneath your breath, “Levi.”
~~~~~
It had been a few months since the raid on Liberio and a few weeks since the end of the Rumbling. Although things were relatively calm compared to the chaos that ensued when Eren Jaeger brought down the walls on Paradis Island, it didn’t bring Levi Ackermann any peace.
Things had happened much too quickly. One minute, he was looking off the bridge of the airship next to you, appreciating the sight of the ocean below you and the stars above you. You two had relished in the few minutes of peace that you’d be able to steal before the raid. He remembered the two of you chatting over what diner to eat at after you got back to the island or where in the Forest of Giant Trees that you wanted to visit to get away from the noise of the town around you.
He remembered watching you disappear into that sea of fire, having been just a second too late in grabbing you. He remembered being forced to flee, despite all of his instincts telling him to jump into the fire to save you. After believing that he had lost you, he channeled all of his emotional energy into the war that had begun with Marley.
However, now that the war was over, all he could think about was you. He would wake up in the morning, longing to feel your touch and hear your voice. He longed to see the way you’d lazily get out of bed with the grumpiest expression or how you would get subtly whiney whenever he had to drag you out of the house to work. He missed your embrace and it hurt like hell every day that he had to wake up without you.
It had been weeks since he had established his own place in Liberio. He found it next to impossible to integrate himself into Marleyan society. Even going outside was torture, with the only thought crossing his mind being that one fateful night in the very town he currently stayed in. The structures around him were all still the same. Every day he went outside was another day that he was forced to relive your death.
He had a meeting face-first with a thunder spear. He lost the use of one of his legs during the final battle of the war. He had suffered so many injuries, so quickly, yet he lived. Part of him wished he didn’t. The guilt of him being the one that survived tore at him with every passing minute. He couldn’t even begin to count the amount of people that have died around him. It was like being around him was a curse—one he couldn’t save you from.
Everyone that he had worked with was gone. He truly was alone. It was agonizing. There was no war to fight and no Titans that needed to be killed, putting him at wit’s end over how to distract himself from the grief that was pushing down on him. Every time he saw someone in Liberio that looked like you, he felt his heart clench as if it suddenly forgot how to function. Every time he looked closer and saw that it wasn’t, he felt like the heaviness in his chest grew. Everything around him only contributed to his grief.
When everyone had gotten killed by Zeke in Shiganshina, the only thing that allowed him to keep his resolve was you. Grieving everyone was at least a little easier as long as he had you by his side—but that fell apart the minute he saw you disappear into the flames.
He cursed to himself as he slowly walked across the dock, frowning at the prosthetic leg that he had gotten attached onto him a little while ago. He knew it was helpful and gave him some autonomy back in his life, but it was annoying for him to have to readjust his own pacing from having an artificial limb.
He looked back up and watched the sun that was slowly dipping beneath the horizon. He had come here so he could walk and ease into walking normally again, but also because the scenery brought him at least some sense of comfort. The two of you would commonly walk on top of the walls during sunset when stressed, simply chatting and enjoying each other’s presence, and walking on the dock seemed similar. While it felt like breathing got slightly easier as he recalled that memory, walking in that view without you by his side made him feel emptier than he had felt this morning.
The frown on his face grew as that heavy feeling within him continued to grow. He didn’t know what to do. If he went home, he’d be miserable. If he stayed here, he’d be miserable. If he went to hang out at a local cafe, he’d be miserable. There was nothing he could do.
He glanced towards the far end of the dock and let out a dejected exhale as he saw someone kneeling down on the dock that vaguely reminded him of you. He watched the way that their hair shuffled around as they stood back up. He watched the way they held themselves as they walked back onto the streets. He watched the way they hung their head down while taking unsteady, slow steps forward, similar to how you would when you were upset.
As he continued to watch, he felt his heart rate slightly increase.
It couldn’t possibly be you. He had played this game at least a dozen times already. He would see someone that looked like you. He would get near them to see if it was you—and it never was. He didn’t want to hold onto hope just to be disappointed. He watched you disappear into that explosion. There was no doubting that—but he couldn’t stop thinking about it.
What if it was you?
Like every other time, he couldn’t get that thought out of his mind. With the war being over, he also had no way of replacing that thought by keeping himself busy.
“Tch,” he clicked his tongue quietly, frustrated at his own inability to control himself as he began to make his way over towards this stranger, just so he could get his brain to shut up once he sees that it isn’t you.
~~~~~
You silently thanked the rain clouds that had quickly filled the sky as you felt the rain drops gently fall. It wasn’t a full drizzle, but the gentle rain was more than enough to hide the tears that were now flowing down your cheeks.
You weren’t ready to let go. You didn’t want to let go. As you made your way back home, you couldn’t take your eyes off the floor, as all of the memories of your life together with Levi began to emerge all at once. Every single time that he had provided you with a source of strength that no one else could would not be felt again. He would never be there to help you on your low days again. He would never silently hold you as you sobbed about the loss that you had to cope with ever again. You would never feel his embrace again. You would never feel him again.
At this point, nearly everyone had either gone home for the night or walked indoors due to the rain. You couldn’t be bothered with it. Returning home to an empty apartment that you had no energy to upkeep felt more agonizing than standing in the freezing rain. Every step forward felt like it took all of your energy and part of you just wanted to collapse onto the ground and never get up again.
You took one more dejected step forward and opened your eyes as you felt yourself bump into someone.
You were already emotionally exhausted, so bumping into this stranger when they had more than enough room on the sidewalk to pass you without entering your bubble was more than enough to irritate you.
A scowl appeared on your face, but quickly disappeared
You felt your irritation get replaced with grief again as you looked down towards the stranger’s shoes, having been walking the entire way home without looking in front of you, only staring at the floor. The way the person stood in front of you felt familiar. The way their body slightly shuffled as the rain dropped down on you felt familiar. The way the person was standing felt familiar. Even the way they subtly smelled seemed familiar.
You noticed your breathing halt as those foolishly hopeful thoughts entered your mind again.
It couldn’t be him.
You’ve played this game over and over again. It was never him.
You found yourself scared to raise your gaze. You wanted to cling onto this feeling of hope, but you knew it would dissipate the minute you saw that it wasn’t him. You weren’t sure how much of that you could bear.
Slowly, you lifted your head, fully preparing to mask any additional tears that were threatening to fall so that you didn’t end up sobbing in front of a complete stranger.
Your eyes made contact with blue-gray ones that looked right back at yours. They were familiar. They were tired and worn, as if they had seen too many horrors to imagine—but it was familiar.
It couldn’t be him.
You then noticed the way this stranger’s hair situated itself into an undercut. You noticed that he was barely taller than you—and you were already quite short yourself. You noticed the way he stood.
You felt yourself freeze up as you questioned the reality around you.
“Is this real?” you asked underneath your breath.
You felt a familiar grip on your waist as the person in front of you reached out. It was so familiar you wanted to collapse into him.
“Is it?” a familiar voice responded.
Hearing Levi’s voice for the first time in months finally ripped you out of your stupor.
He was here in front of you. It wasn’t a hallucination. You didn’t know how he was here or how long he had been in Liberio, but he was here.
It was like you could finally exhale after having held your breath ever since you woke up after the raid. As you felt his hands on you, saw him in front of you, and heard him speak to you, you felt your breathing destabilize as your efforts to mask your tears completely faded away.
You collapsed into Levi’s chest as his arms wrapped around you. You pulled him close as you sobbed, processing all of your grief at once. You hugged him tighter and tighter, wanting to ensure yourself that this was real—that he was real.
Levi took a deep breath as he somewhat buried his face into your hair, relishing in the feeling that he had missed for so long.
All of the pain you had felt throughout the past few months compounded together and ripped itself out of you all at once. It was absolute torture—but with every ounce of strength you had left, you would strive to feel this pain and be next to him, holding onto him, so that you would never lose him again.
~~~~~
You couldn’t take your gaze off of him.
The two of you had walked to his apartment since it was closer to the docks, compared to yours that was further inland. You currently rested on his couch with one of his jackets wrapped around you since you ended up being drenched in rainwater.
You curled up and pulled his jacket in closer as he gently set down a cup of tea in front of you. You shakily grabbed the cup and slowly brought it to your lips, with a fresh wave of grief rolling through you as the liquid made contact with your lips.
You gripped at the handle of the cup, shutting your eyes at the thought of just how much you had missed the way he made his tea. Over the past few months, you had tried to duplicate his brew in a vain effort to pretend he was still next to you, resulting in failure each time.
You listened intensely, continuing to sip at his tea to warm yourself up as he filled you in on the events after you had “died”. He spoke of Eren’s betrayal and how that led up to the climax of the war. He spoke of the insurrection within the walls. He spoke of the accident he had found himself trapped in. He spoke of all the events that you had missed out on.
He watched, trying to gauge your reaction to the information coming out of his mouth. He couldn’t ignore that intense feeling of guilt that was building up in his stomach.
You were alive this entire time. His instincts were right. He should have stayed to rescue you. At the very least, he should have come back for you after they escaped. Instead of channeling all of his rage into the war, he should have come to find you—but he didn’t.
As he spoke, your eyes ran up and down his body. You had first noticed his scars when you looked up at him. The right side of his face had two vertical scars, with one running down his cheek and the other running through his right eye. You glanced down and felt your heart drop once you saw the state of his right hand, which was missing his index and middle finger.
Now that you thought about it, when you were looking down at his shoes earlier, you had noticed that one of his legs had been replaced with a prosthetic one.
All this had occurred without you. All of these injuries that had permanently changed his life had happened without you. You couldn’t be there to support him or help him. He had to navigate it on his own, and that felt just as painful as losing him.
You reached out and gently grabbed at the sides of his face with both of your hands, running your left thumb across some of his scars.
“Are you in pain?” you whispered to him.
He grabbed at your hand, giving your palm a gentle kiss and he shot you a small, reassuring smile.
“Not anymore.”
You smiled back, but you weren’t reassured.
“I’m sorry I wasn’t there during the most important period of our lives,” you said as your pain became evident in your voice. “I just feel like I missed out on everything and that I wasn’t here to support you-”
Although you two were already close physically, he still pulled you in closer, planting a kiss onto your lips. The feeling of your lips on his sent a rush of euphoria through his body, a feeling he never thought he would feel again.
After a while, he pulled away, but only ever so slightly. He wasn’t ready to let you go yet. He wasn’t ready to no longer feel your skin on him, even if it was just for a few seconds. He wanted to relish in the fact that you were here.
“Well,” he said quietly as he whispered to you. “Now we have nothing but time.”
Suddenly, living in a post-war peaceful life didn’t seem so bad to him. He pulled you into another kiss, placing his hand at the nape of your neck to pull you in closer.
It had been a few months since the raid at Liberio. During that time, he had lost everyone that had ever mattered to him. He had been forced onto a journey alone, in which he had to explore and find his own place in a world that wasn’t filled with death and destruction. He had been forced to shed his title as Humanity’s Strongest Soldier with no direction as to how to move forward.
However, now that he had you in his embrace again and was able to feel you, hear you, and see you, that journey no longer seemed as agonizing or impossible, as long as he found himself by your side.
i love you too, my dear.
synopsis: reiner wakes up after the attack of eren yeager and paradis island on liberio and learns from his fellow warriors that you were badly injured. upon hearing this, reiner doesn’t know what to do with himself.
cw: small mention of blood, stitches and suicidal thoughts
Reiner didn’t remember much of what happened before the raid of Liberio. He only had small glimpses of a dark cave with only him and two other people… but who were they? He recalled their presence as well as the sounds of a man speaking above them, speaking of some devils and some sins, it reminded him of what he’d heard in his childhood.
As more of his memories came back, he remembered that one of the people he was with was an old friend. Or so did the young boy next to him said… but this old friend was the same one who raided his home and killed the Marleyan army. Surely the little boy was mistaken.
He was in a deep sleep, ready to finally die when the screams of his cousin forced him back awake and he found himself controlling the armored titan again, surrounded by nothing but the ruins of his home and the bodies of his people but as he was fighting the attack titan, only one question occupied his mind: Where were you?
Then he finally woke up, his head feeling heavy and his body hurting like he had just woken up from a 2 years long coma or the worst hungover of his life. He felt that the closer he was getting to the end of his term, the more he found himself in this position, it was as if the powers of the armored titan were getting too strong for him and could no longer be sealed in his body.
His friends, or rather fellow warriors, were all in the room, except for one of them. Seeing them made him regain some consciousness and finally he was able to recall everything that had happened and he started panicking, even more so when one pointed that this was not a dream.
He asked a thousands of question, panicked and worried. When he learned that his cousin had somehow ended up with the people of the island he almost dropped dead.
But what he definitely wasn’t ready to hear was that you had been badly injured during the attack and barely made it out alive thanks to a Marleyan soldier who saved you and helped you escape before you started losing blood but were thankfully taken to the hospital on time. However, your current state was unknown.
When he heard those words coming from Porco’s mouth, he felt as if the world had stopped spinning for a few seconds and everything around him ceased to exist, throwing him into an endless pit of loneliness and darkness. His first instinct was to think that finally his punishment for his sins had arrived and to punish him for the countless of people he had killed, his most precious person would be taken away from him.
But he didn’t want that to happen. So he got up and simply asked where you were, trying his damn best to sound as composed as possible even though he felt like he was about to collapse. Obviously being a simple civilian, you weren’t in the same department as the warriors. Reiner had to walk a few minutes before finally finding your room and he felt as if those minutes were never ending. Thoughts of losing you plagued his mind and tears wouldn’t stop threatening to fall from his eyes.
When he finally got into your room, you were sitting in your bed, eating hospital rations from one hand and holding a book in your other hand. Upon hearing the door, you shot a side eye to the other corner of the room, expecting a doctor for yet another check up, but you were instead met with your dear friend’s panicked and watery eyes.
“Oh, Reiner?” Was all you said.
Upon hearing your sweet voice, the tears that had threatened to fall from Reiner’s eyes for the last 10 minutes finally fell and rolled down his cheeks. He closed the door and ran to your bed where he got on his knees and grabbed your hand, squeezing it tightly inside of his own.
You looked at him quite dumbfounded, not being used to such a sight from him in particular but you let him cry nonetheless, thinking that maybe he was finally ready to open up to you. You gave him a little smile and closed the book you were holding with your other hand to come and wipe his tears.
“C’mon pretty boy, I didn’t think you liked me this much.”
“I was so worried...” He sighed as more tears fell from his eyes. “Porco made it sound like you were on the verge of dying.”
“Yesterday? I was. But they took care of me all night and well… I still feel tired but it’s better.” You grabbed his cheek to make him look up to you. “I’m more worried about you, Reiner.”
He looked at you like you were the brightest star in the lonely constellation of his life, and in a sense, you were. You were but a mere civilian with no particular asset to protect you from Paradis' attack which you almost died from. Reiner was the armored titan, Marley's shield. He was far stronger, far more prepared for anything and despite all that, you were still worried about him.
Such an angel that he didn't deserve but somehow still had in his life. He forced a smile as he rubbed circles on the back of your hand. Thruthfully, he was feeling like actual trash both physicially and mentally, but he couldn't afford to tell you the truth. He needed to be strong for you, because you trusted him and he acted as your shield. If he couldn't hold on for you then who would?
"I'm fine." He spoke in a rather low voice.
He got up from his knees before pulling a chair to sit next to your bed. You observed him as he did this. You observed his tired face and weakened body. You weren't here to see it, but you guessed that he had probably taken some hard blows from Yeager. But for some reasons, he hid it from you.
"How are you recovering?" He finally asked as he sat down, the sadness he previously bore on his face now replaced with the same blank expression.
"Well..." With your free hand, you lifted your shirt to expose your main wound.
Reiner's eyes looked at the big bandage covering your waist, a bloody spot could be seen through the fabric. You then shot a quick glance at Reiner who looked once again completely devastated. You chuckled at his expression and squeezed the hand he was holding yours with.
"It hurts like a bitch." You said. "I need to limit movements so the stitches don't break".
"How did it happen?"
"One of them did this to me with their blades. Judging from their expression I don't think it was on purpose..." You shrugged.
Reiner's shoulders dropped at this and he looked at the ground, feeling in despair again. His stomach twisted in pain and a knot formed in his throat, not daring to believe or trying to grasp the fact that someone from the island, with the possibility of them being one of his former friends, had hurt you and almost killed you.
Once again he felt like the weight of the whole world rested on his shoulders. He felt that this could've been avoided if he didn't insist on carrying with the mission after Marcel died, or if he actually managed to get the founding titan. If he didn't fuck up the mission and made the existence of a world beyond the walls known by the peope of said walls, could everything have been avoided?
Could your pain have been avoided? Or was it simply karma getting back to him? Because his constant emotional despair and the suicidal thoughts that ate his brain weren't enough, he needed to suffer more? He needed to see his loved ones suffer, just like the people of the walls saw their loved ones suffer when they breached wall Maria, 9 years ago?
Before he knew it, tears started falling from his eyes again as his heart beat faster and faster. His breathing became messier as well and he soon found it hard to keep breathing steadily. You noticed his change of attitude and clear panic, so you squeezed his hand again, hoping to bring him back to reality.
Feeling your presence, he looked up at you, eyes as watery as ever and tears falling all over his cheeks again. There was truly a lot of guilt and pain that he wasn't talking about, that he refused to mention with you. You wanted to be a good friend and help him through this but how could you if he kept everything to himself ?
"Reiner... are you o-"
"I'm so sorry... It's all my fault, I..."
"Wow slow down Rei. Last time I checked you're not the one who told Yeager to raid Liberio."
Reiner expected this kind of response from you. Obviously you wouldn't understand where he came from and what he meant, how could you understand when he didn't say anything and you didn't even know a quarter of what he had seen and done back there?
He never wanted you to know these things. Perhaps because some of his actions stemed from his own weaknesses that he always wanted to keep away from you because someone's shield shouldn't have any weakness.
It was weird to him how he managed to smile fondly at you while his eyes were still crying but even in his darkest moments, your sole presence managed to ease his pain. You were his light, a small glimpse of light in the infinite darkness that surrounded him, a small glimpse of light that he held onto, that kept him alive.
You were his everything, and he always knew that. But almost losing you only made him even more aware. He realized it now that the feeling he kept hidden were far stronger than what he'd imagned.
You were beautiful, so beautifil. And he loved you, so badly. Such love couldn't be contained, not anymore. Not now that he was aware of how badly he actually loved you.
"Fuck I love you so much, if I were to lose you I would go insane."
The words came out of his mouth naturally. You raised your eyebrows at the sudden confession before smiling at the man. Saying you were happy was an understatement, for sure. But you were kind of disappointed that you needed to almost die, to hear this man finally confess to you.
"Aren't you a little bit fucked up already, though?" You asked in your usual sarcastic tone, which surprisingly made the man chuckle.
"That's not the point..." He pinched the bridge of his nose, making you laugh.
You brought his hand to your lips before pressing a gentle kiss on his skin. He looked at you with a light in his eyes you hadn't seen in a while. A light that reminded you of the optimistic and enthusiatic young boy he was before the mission on Paradis island.
You pressed another few kisses on his hand, enough to make him feel better and more relaxed before looking straight into his beautiful amber eyes with a gentle smile.
"I love you too, my dear." You said, calmly.
You marked a pause as Reiner opened his mouth to speak, but he wasn't able to emit a single sound. A light blush spread across his cheeks which brought a smile to your lips.
"And I want you to stop worrying about me and start taking care of yourself."
"I..."
"Shush."
You leaned over him and gently pressed your lips against his cheek still humid from the tears he hadn't wiped yet. You kept your face close to his as you looked at his expression go from relaxed to slightly panicked as he realized just how close you were to him.
Then your lips curled into a wide smile as you closed the distance again to press a quick chaste kiss on his lips. A short yet affectionate kiss that he didn't really get time to return because you were already back into your former position before he could even realize what had just happened.
Reiner tried to gather his thoughts but he was unable to think normally. He just looked at you, with your clueless expression, acting like nothing happened, a small and subtle smirk on your face. It's like you enjoyed messing with him and Reiner wasnt sure if he enjoyed it right now.
"You're so cute, Rei, I could eat you." You said, giggling.
Reiner chuckled. He probably enjoyed it.
God was he lucky to have you. Despite everything he had done and everyone he had lost, he still had you. You, the best thing that has ever happened to him and the only one he had not lost yet.
He didn't deserve to feel this lighthearted, but he wanted to be selfish for just 5 minutes and relish in the warm and fuzzy feeling he felt in his stomach and the ounce of normalcy he currently had because he knew that it would not last and he would soon have to act as Marley's shield again.
But for now, he didn't want to be a shield. He just wanted to be Reiner Braun and relish in the little appiness he had been granted by whoever above had pitied him enough.
Porco Galliard - Taken from him
Tumblr media
Warning : death, throwing up, death again
Genre : Angst
Synopsis : "How do you think porco would react when finding his beloved dead on the ground after a battle they faced?" - @4ever3
Reader : gender neutral (you/yours)
Tumblr media
He found it weird how he couldn't spot you no matter where he was. He ran to every side of the battlefield Revelio became, but there was no sign of you fighting anywhere.
When he finally spots you, lying on the ground, his first reaction is to get out of his titan. He grabs you and looks around for any sign of enemies. Quickly bringing you to safety.
He pants hard as he holds you close, squeezing you against him, leaning against a wall inside a half destroyed house. He keeps looking around in case he gets attacked. Clutching you against his chest.
No one comes and he finally calms down. That's when he notices you're not moving. At all. Your chest, you're not breathing.
He checks your wrists for a pulse then your throat and your chest. Still no pulse. He panics and begins to yell at you, shaking your body.
That's when he notices the bullet hole in your head, between your eyes.
He gently cups your face, shaking your head a little as he calls your name softly. Your blood gets on his hands. His breathing gets faster as slowly the thought of you dead creeps in his mind.
It cannot be.
He calls your name again. Yelling it in your face. He's angry. His hands are still shaking you as you rest on the ground. You give him nothing.
Your eyes are open but they're dull, the spark, the shine in them is gone. They're empty. In that moment he finds the horror of seeing a dead body.
He begins to tremble as finally your death settles in. He keeps calling you, his stomach is churning and he feels like throwing up.
He does throw up, almost choking on his own puke as images of the bullet in your head flashes in his mind.
He can vividly see you get shot and fall flat to the ground without missing a beat. Your body full of life suddenly lacking it. He throws up again. Coughing. Tears threatening to spill.
He looks at your lifeless body and finally, tears begin to fall.
He crawls to you again, shaking your body and yelling your name as his tears fall on your face. He's begging. Begging you to move. Breathe. To blink. Anything. But please do not stay dead.
After a few minutes his eyes are burning, red, he's sniffling as his voice breaks as he calls for you again. One last time.
He's forgotten everything you told him. To be careful, to not rest on his titan’s strength alone, to not be blinded. It's too late. He's full of rage. He promises to you, your dead body, that he's going to avenge you.
He hates them. These damned eldians from Paradis Island. These fucking devils. He wants to kill them all. Especially the one that shot you. That's what they deserve for killing his only light.
Except it doesn't go as planned as he transforms back into a titan, his jaw is used by Eren to break the crystal protecting Lara Tybur.
In that instant, with you dead, he feels like he's lost his purpose.
When he wakes up later and hears Reiner saved him, the first thing he does is ask for you. He quickly remembers what happened, feeling nauseous and gets up despite the nurse's warnings to find your body still where he left it.
He cries once again when he sees you, exactly at the place he left you. You haven't moved an inch. Really. How could you ?
He caresses your face fondly, ignoring the dried blood. But he almost throws up again at the sight of the hole in your forehead. He delicately puts you on his back, to put you with the other dead soldiers to have a proper burial.
-
"I saw Marcel's memories. He tricked the army into making a loser like you into a Warrior... all to protect me. Now you have to admit it... That... to the end... I've always been better than you." He says to Reiner.
He has tears in his remaining eye as he feels he cannot regenerate anymore. But he's not mad. He feels at peace knowing the truth.
He's happy. Because he knows he's gonna find you again, and this time, nothing will take you away from him.
Previous | Next | Achilles Masterlist
“You’re nothing,” the words were spat in your face while you just sat on your knees and took it. It wasn’t like there was much you could do even if you wanted to, but you learned it was best to just say nothing and show no emotion -- even if it meant they called you a braindead moron. “You’re just another useless Eldian-- No, you’re worse than an Eldian. You’re more braindead than a normal one. You’re completely useless.”
You continued to stare blankly at the Marleyan who had you by the hair. His grip hurt you, but you didn’t show any indication of it. You always thought that if they knew they were hurting you, they’d just want to do it more.
Back when you first had the idea to not react -- you were a young child and noticed that the Eldian kids who cried and pleaded for the Marleyans to stop just seemed to egg them on -- they would try harder to get a reaction. Sometimes, some of them still did because they wanted to be the one to ‘break the braindead Eldian’. But mostly, they’d throw you into the dirt, spit on you, and walk away.
But there were still guys like this Marleyan, who wanted so badly to be the one to get a reaction from you. That, or maybe he just wanted something to take his anger out on. Maybe his kids didn’t love him. Maybe his wife left him. You weren’t sure.
He shoved your head down into a bucket of freezing water. You tried not to react to it, your eyes squeezing shut as your breath was forced out of your lungs from how cold it was. But he kept holding you there, waiting for you to start thrashing.
But you’d sooner pass out than do that.
“_____!”
You were staring out at the ocean, the moon being mirrored off the surface. You blinked a couple times before turning your head to look at Soonyoung, who sat on the beach a couple feet away from you. He offered a soft smile.
“You okay?” he asked. “I said your name like, 3 times.”
You nodded, “Yeah. Just...thinking.”
“‘Bout what?” he wondered.
“Home.”
He furrowed his eyebrows, “You can’t actually miss that place, right?”
You shook your head, “They weren’t homesick thoughts.”
His face softened, and he looked down at the sand the two of you sat on. His legs were apart with his knees up, his arms resting on them. You were sitting with your legs outstretched in front of you, looking down the beach at the water. The two of you were supposed to be on lookout in case anyone invaded. You were working in shifts, but Wonwoo was supposed to be showing up to take over for Soonyoung any minute now.
“So...what was Marley like?” Soonyoung wondered.
You shrugged, “It was a nice place visually. It was the people who lived there who ruined it.”
“Is it like here?”
“No, it was more... I don’t know. Fancier, I guess? For lack of a better word. It’s kind of like the interior, but nicer.”
“Whoa...”
While Soonyoung mulled over that thought, you studied him. You wondered what you would’ve been like if you’d grown up on Paradis like he did. Even though the people who lived on the island were looked at as devils and were constantly fighting for their lives, Soonyoung somehow always seemed so happy and carefree. But you? You hardly spoke a word in your life up until being sent off to the island.
Honestly, you were happier ever since coming to Paradis. Yeah, maybe Wonwoo gave you a hard time, but even he was mostly just amusing to make grumpy.
Speak of the devil... you thought, as you heard footsteps begin to get louder behind you.
“Alright, get lost,” his familiar voice suddenly said behind the two of you.
Soonyoung jumped before he whipped his head around, looking up at the captain, “A warning might be nice, you freak.”
“Just go,” Wonwoo told him in a bored tone, ignoring the insult. “You need all the rest you can get.”
Soonyoung pushed himself to stand up, saying goodnight to you and swearing under his breath at Wonwoo before leaving the beach. Wonwoo took Soonyoung’s spot a couple feet away from you, and even sat in the same position he had.
“So Marley’s nicer than the interior, huh?” Wonwoo questioned.
You let out a sigh, “Do you always eavesdrop on conversations?”
“And what if I only do it to you?” he smirked.
You rolled your eyes, “You also seem to only be this annoying toward me. What, you got a crush on me or something?”
He scoffed, looking back toward the ocean, “You wish.”
“I’d rather get crunched by Chan, but whatever helps you sleep at night.”
A silence fell between the two of you, but it didn’t feel awkward or uncomfortable. It felt...nothing. It was like you were sitting on the beach alone.
After just sitting there listening to the waves, you finally spoke up, “Can I ask you something?”
“Even if I say no, you’ll run your big mouth anyway,” he sighed, staring across the ocean.
You chose to ignore him, instead asking what you'd been wondering ever since you saw Wonwoo interact with his comrades.
"Why haven't you hit me yet?"
His head snapped toward you suddenly, eyes watching you from behind round glasses. You continued to stare out at the ocean, but Wonwoo just sat silently, waiting for you to elaborate on your question.
When you didn't he asked, "You want me to hit you?"
You shrugged, finally looking back at him, "You do it to Soonyoung all the time. And Mingyu. And Jun. And literally everyone else who gets on your nerves. You've physically threatened the others, but you've never done that to me. So why not?"
It was like a staring contest. He stared at you, his expression unreadable. So you stared back, waiting for a response.
Finally, after what felt like an eternity but was realistically maybe no more than 4 or 5 seconds, Wonwoo scoffed and turned back to the view, "You ask too many questions."
"And you don't give enough answers," you replied, mimicking his actions.
There was another silence that was neither comfortable nor uncomfortable. It continued to feel like you were just sitting on your own, staring at the moonlight reflecting off the water. You weren't sure how long you sat like that, but neither of you broke it for at least a few minutes.
"So what happened to you?"
Wonwoo's voice probably should've made you jump since it was sudden, breaking through the soft sounds of the waves. But somehow, it didn't startle you.
Neither of you broke your gaze away from the water, but you were kind of happy his scrutinizing eyes weren't on you. You felt like he was always judging you or studying you whenever he looked at you, and while you knew why, you still didn't like it. You felt like a science experiment.
Then again, it was better than being looked at with disgust.
"You know what happened to me," you replied with a breath.
"But I want to know the details," he pressed.
You were the first to look away now, "Why?"
He met your eyes, explaining, "You're still an unknown to us. You could turn on us at any point still, actually. So I require more knowledge on you in case you do decide to become a traitor -- if you're not secretly one already."
It was your turn to scoff now, rolling your eyes, "Yeah right. If you knew everything I went through, you'd feel like an idiot even thinking I'd help them."
"So then prove me wrong."
"Okay," you nodded, but you paused, "only if you tell me about you first."
He chuckled, but more because he found your request silly rather than amusing, "Why?"
You shrugged, "To me, you're the unknown. I know your name is Wonwoo and you're the captain. You're Seungcheol's best friend and right-hand man. And I heard before that you 'owe him' for some reason, and I wanna know what and why."
For a second, Wonwoo seemed surprised that you knew about him and Seungcheol, but then he softly chuckled and nodded while he looked down at the sand, "Yeah, I should've expected word would travel to you. But to be fair, nobody knows the whole story."
"Well I want the whole story. Then I'll talk."
He seemed to consider your deal for a moment, continuing to stare at the sand before he took a deep breath and looked back out to where the sky met the ocean. He let out his breath in a soft hum, and then was silent for another beat.
"There's an underground city where a lot of less fortunate people live," he began. "It's full of...grime and poverty... Once you're down there, it's almost impossible to come up to the surface. And the air down there is awful. A lot of people have medical issues because there's no fresh air or sunlight.
"Well, my dad passed away before I was born because of those medical issues. My mom died during childbirth, so I was left all alone as soon as I was born. They had no choice but to let me up to the surface to be placed into a children's home because there aren't any down below, and there was nobody to take me in. Even as a baby, I was treated differently, and the fact I was born in the underground followed me as I grew up. Kids were brutal, and they got even worse as we got older. I got spit on and beat up at first, but it started turning into being held down in the river or getting threatened with knives and whatever kids and teenagers could use as weapons. I fought back at first, and I got good at fighting. But suddenly, everyone around me was hitting growth spurts or putting on weight, and I was...unfortunately, pretty small compared to everyone else. So instead, I learned not to react because that made them want to hurt me more. It made them realize they got a rise out of me and they liked that."
Yeah, that sounds familiar, you thought, but you kept your comments to yourself, letting Wonwoo talk.
"I decided it was best to sneak back to the underground, so that's what I did. I stayed there for a couple years, until I was older and taller and bigger. Nobody down there treated me differently, but there were still some troubled kids who picked fights, and I would just fight because I wanted to stay tough so I could eventually go back to the surface and give those stupid kids a taste of their own medicine.
"In between all that, though, I had realized that because I found a way to sneak in, I could sneak back out. So I started stealing things from the surface to give to people underground. Some people would give me some spare change in return, and at first, I didn't want it. I had nothing, but that didn't mean I wanted what little other people had, y'know? But then I saw some guy selling ODM gear on the black market and I wanted it. I knew it would help me, so I started accepting anything people gave me so I could save up for it. And when I got it, I spent forever teaching myself how to use it and how to be good with it.
"I started spending more time on the surface, and I eventually ran into some of the kids who really abused me when we were younger. I was at least a head taller than them now, and I had gotten really strong from all the fights I'd get into and from training myself with the ODM gear, so I won most of the fights against guys my age. But there was one time... I don't even remember the kid, but I beat him up pretty bad. I honestly probably would've gotten arrested again but nobody from the Garrison was around, and I guess the kid went straight to his dad instead."
He was lost in thought, staring out at the ocean but his eyes weren't really fixed on it. He was somewhere else completely.
"I noticed these big guys following me, so I went down some alley hoping maybe I was just paranoid for whatever reason. Like I said, I was angry a lot. I felt like everyone was out to get me because people just...were. But they followed me down there. They managed to catch up to me, and it was the kid's dad and some of his friends. It was hard to fight off men who were at least 2 decades older than me, and they probably would've beaten me to death if they could.
"But Seungcheol was there. He showed up out of nowhere. He had only recently become Commander, and nobody really knew what to think of him just yet. But he scared off the guys and got me on his horse and took me to get patched up and healed. I guess he'd seen me once getting away from the market on the ODM gear. I had stolen some fruit and the merchant was after me, but the Garrison couldn't care less about helping them. He asked around and heard more about me from the Garrison Regiment since I had gotten arrested a couple times -- thankfully, never with my ODM gear so they could never confiscate it. He had been scoping me out for a little while after that. He said he wanted me on the Scouts. I had nothing and nobody, so I figured why not. Now I have people and something to live for."
You weren't sure why, after all of that, the first thing you asked was, "So you do care about the Scouts?"
But that was what you asked.
Wonwoo chuckled, dropping his head down to his knees that were bent, his arms resting on them. Then he looked at you, still smiling, "Yeah, I care about my friends in the Scouts. They're pains in my ass, but I'd do anything for them. Especially Seungcheol. He gave me a purpose.
"Now it's your turn," he reminded you with a smirk. "Talk, Marleyan."
You let out a sigh, not nearly putting in as much thought or heart into your story as Wonwoo had with his.
"I was born to an Eldian and a Marleyan, but if you're even partly Eldian, you're not seen as Marleyan at all. You get treated as an Eldian. My mom was Marleyan and had fallen in love with my dad, but when it was found out that she had me with an Eldian, she suddenly turned the narrative around and claimed he had come onto her. That got him executed, so I was put into an Eldian children's home."
You barely heard Wonwoo chuckle softly, but that was all.
"I found out my mom committed suicide not too long after, so I was alone -- not that she would've wanted to take me in anyway. The children's home for Eldian's was basically a lawless land. There were bugs and rats everywhere, all our clothes and bedding were dirty, and there was hardly enough food to feed all of us.
"Anyway, not much happened there. Marleyans would say mean things to us sometimes they'd push us around and beat us up if they saw us, but that was it. I got kicked out of the home when I was of age. I worked some small, shitty jobs until I eventually went into the military because I needed something to do and I needed somewhere to live because I could never get enough money for housing. Word traveled pretty quickly about me. Because I stopped responding to the abuse, I was known as the braindead Eldian, so a lot of soldiers were disgusted I was there, but they figured they could use me for simple jobs like cleaning or cooking. Then, when they came up with their big plan to kidnap Jiwoo, they decided to use me since I was expendable.
"And," you finished with a deep sigh. still looking out at the water and how the moon and stars reflected on it, "now here we are."
Wonwoo's response was, surprisingly, to chuckle. You glanced at him, giving him a look that was partly offended and partly confused, but he was still looking out at the water.
"I give you my detailed life story and you just skip out on everything?" he asked, shaking his head. "That's pretty unfair."
"Because it was all the same shit. Nothing interesting happened. Kinda sounded like your story, anyway."
He let some air out through his nose as he nodded slowly, "Yeah, guess so."
There was a moment of silence. You still looked at Wonwoo expectantly, but he was looking out at the ocean. You knew he could feel your stare on him, but you could tell he was choosing to ignore it.
"So?" you finally pressed.
He looked at you, "So what?"
"Do you still think I'm gonna turn on you or whatever?"
He shrugged, "Maybe. The chance is always there."
You huffed and looked back at the ocean. This seemed to amuse him because he let out a quiet laugh.
"What's the issue, princess?"
You rolled your eyes at the nickname but said nothing about it, replying, "I don't understand you."
"Which part?"
"Why would you bother trusting me with all of that if you think I could be a traitor? Seems pretty counterintuitive to me."
You didn't think Wonwoo was going to answer because your question was followed by silence. You continued to look at the water for a few seconds of silence. At least 10 must've passed.
Those whole 10 seconds, though, Wonwoo was looking at you. He was studying your profile in the moonlight, eyes softening as an almost sad smile tugged at his lips that you didn't see. And then he slowly turned back to the view.
"I dunno," he mumbled. "Guess you just...remind me of someone."
Chapter I
A New Beginning
Next Chapter
It was that midday. On that midday—chilled and under substance of weariness came to light when you stepped out of the cramped space with an extension of your hand stretching towards the driver’s hand to escorted you down from the carriage, staring at the glorious—rather gloomy—weather with 100,000 people compacted at every street corner, people waving each other farewell, others have an under inspection of clean hygiene. Then the departed ones kissed and hugged their loved ones and embarked on the grandiose ship.
Goliath.
Goliath is a ship that stretches 1000 ft. 10 inches—all crisp and sharp colors of red, black and gold protruded over a sullen day.
It was that day.
That day you’re going off to a different country to be wedded off to the great Zeke Yeager, the man who belonged into a clan of Eldians. Eldians are anything but elite people who holds more jewels, crown, gold and diamonds than any Marleyans and the poor could ever afford. They owned several mines and tobaccos across the peaceful land. Since the success battle between Eldians and Marleyans has been the greatest rivals since the dawn of time, things have escalated when the usurper, Eren Yeager, destroyed the Marleyans with an undercover invasion. Paradis, an island of Devils, overtook the headlines and marked into the history within the Marleyan lands.
It wasn’t all what Eren Yeager did. Secrecy is just as deep and thick as one’s blood that Eren isn’t willing to share on what he did to gain riches and status. And how Zeke Yeager got the title as a king to Eldians baffled you. In your heart, you knew, even your family and servants knew, Zeke Yeager is born as an Eldian—a commoner, but in the once rich land of Marleyans, served under Commander Magath, as the Eldian Warrior.
Warriors. Nothing but grueling, war-hungry freaks, thinking what they do is best for everyone when they have forsaken at their most vulnerable moments in mankind. You hated war, no matter what kind. It’s always the same thing. In the history of time and space, all people ever do is hate one another, it’s what they’re always good at—no hearts to spare, not even a shred of kindness. People are afraid to understand beyond their comprehensions and decided to take it by force.
More so, eternal power and fortune, to remain as untouchable. Humans craved it as a source of validation—their pleasure and a wanting of an endless gift.
It baffled you to the idea where lies are just a gain of source for the Yeager brothers to achieve their goals in one fell swoop.
The Yeager brothers are clever. So clever it froze you into thinking of a never-ending “what-ifs” and scenarios in your stable life.
You were fine with the idea of being spinster, until your dearest mother proposed the idea of you to be shipped off to see Zeke Yeager and wed him before the Goliath arrives at the new Eldian land that the Yeager brothers established after the Rumbling they called on years ago.
You weren’t just some old horse to be put down and casted off when humans so desire. You have a heart with feelings and distinguished ideals. A bird is a bird that meant to be freed off themselves from the nest and gain gift and glory to the best of their lives with a spread of their wings, no matter what kind. That’s the hope that you’ve longed for. But your mother has the extreme case of putting your ambitions and wishes, down and dead, by calling you “a silly little girl who knows nothing about the real world,” with a haughty laugh.
Despite your mother’s guttural, uppity laugh, your ears deafened at the sound of Titans’s feet crushing upon ruins and fire. You were scared before; cherishing one’s life after being born is the greatest gift to ever exist, but to be stripped off underneath the Rumbling’s stampede was another. You could hear your dead friends running and their bones crushed with their last teardrops stained into your memory. It wasn’t supposed to be this way, yet somehow, you survived. With life moving forward, you found yourself floating and idle instead.
Titans no longer exist. But you’d rather be eaten and tear apart and stomped on than to be at the mercy of the Yeager brothers as a hollow self.
As an aristocratic Marleyan, you are born to be crowned with a blessing and a curse, filled with purpose and luxury. But to think your blessings will be outnumbered soon as soon as you stepped your feet into the ship of Goliath.
As soon as you enter the ship, your mother halted to your side and whispered, “There’s someone I would like for you to meet. Come this way; you shouldn’t make our honored guest feel uncomfortable.”
~~~
Levi Ackerman, a man with his youngish looks is tired of constant battles between soldier to soldier, enemies to enemies. soldier and titans. But this time, his battling with his last luck.
Beyond the crowd, Levi leaned his shoulder against the lamplight post with a cigarette in his mouth, the smoke smeared alongside the Goliath’s upon the bustling chimneys. Goliath’s a sight to behold. A commoner like him could never get onto the gigantic ship. He has no money to spare, not after the war he carried on as the last surviving member of his people—a lone man last standing amongst the pack of crowd, who have forgotten about the war that Levi faced and sacrificed alongside the people Levi knew.
Under his weary lids, upon the bluish-grey gaze of his narrow eyes, he examined the loved ones separating with tears streaming down their faces with their smiles quivered.
This is what they wanted to see.
If only they’re here…
In his heart, maybe, but the physicality on being here with him, watching the crowd, alive and happy, was something extraordinary and rare to behold.
If only Titans didn’t exist…
But if Titans didn’t exist, he would serve no purpose but to live his days in the underground—no air and sunlight, just people in the dark and make decisions that are undesirable and irritable—more so, irrelevant. Being a thief was challenging for him.
His love of cleaning is still there; he tidied himself through and through—effortlessly polished. Luckily, he didn’t need assistance; none of his eyes are damaged, neither his fingers chopped off. The only thing his body has damage is his left leg—though not severed or broken. He dislocated it from his last battle in his threshold with walls.
His cigarette burnt out quickly, thus nearly burned the skin on his fingers. His tongue clicked with annoyance, flicking the used cigarette off the ground and stomped on it.
Until now, his mind insistingly conjured up to the Rumbling. He didn’t want to look at the burnt cigarette, so his eyes focused elsewhere while his shoe deepened against his used smoke.
His eyes watched two lovers striding with giddy, who are also watching the folks climb onboard into the Goliath ship. Out of the blue, the young man got down on his one knee and pulled out the velvet box that contains a small diamond ring. The young woman caught on this and cried with happiness with her hands over her mouth, eyes glistening and knees shaking but kept herself with composure, but soon hopped with joy. Levi knew that the young woman would eventually say “yes”, and watched further as the young man spun his soon-to-be wife around as the crowd looked over and congratulated them.
Adjusting his cravat, as he was about embark his journey, a large colorful lollipop displayed before his eyes. Then a large shadow looming over him. A stink of breath drew closer to his ear, but not too close.
“Hey, little kid, you want a candy? Don’t worry, it’s free of charge,” a grating, raspy voice said behind Levi, laughing. Levi knew who it was. How did the clown survive from the Rumbling?
With his cane, his feet ambled briskly. He didn’t look who’s behind him, but he trudged into the crowd to lose the sight of a clown as the clown shouted in a slur that Levi doesn’t wish to understand or give his time for.
As he strode before the Goliath upon the thick spectators with ease, there were four men nearby shouting at each other about their gambling aftermath. Two of the men—Marleyans—wanted their tickets to the Goliath back, but unfortunately, the other two, who Levi assumes, are the Eldians—not born from Paradis—are shouting with their justifications. The golden tickets are on the table, to where the four men gambled. In a pure instinct, he grabbed the golden ticket with him and trudged his way to the bridge that was about to close soon within 7 minutes.
The inspector stopped Levi. “Do you have any diseases or bugs on you, sir?”
Levi looked at the crew member with a discern, nerving look in his eyes.
Realizing who Levi is, the crew member swallowed his fears, and in a low voice, his neck inclined forward and said, “It’s good to see you again, Captain Levi.”
Levi Ackerman adjusted his fedora hat. “I’m not the Captain anymore. I’m nothing more than just a passenger of the ship.” Then climbed onboard. As he traveled his way to the ship’s deck, he didn’t give so much of a wave, he lit his new cigar and watch the anchor and the rope lifted, ready to take off.
He wasn’t much of a person with goodbyes, but the sight of peace has taken its way to his heart with pride and glory, after a long road of betrayal, sacrifice and courage that solidifies and shaped on what he became as then and now.
Saving the land and the people is worth it.

Hey lovely Alyssa ✨
I hope you're doing well!
The Leviana fanarts you post are always amazing & I wondered if you could tell us more about your OC Ilyana? I'm really curious about this cutie!
Smooches 😘
Val, hi! 💕 how’re you doing?
Thank you so much for your question about Ilyana. It makes my heart so happy when people show an interest in her.
I have a little story I’ve been working on for a while for her & Levi. It’s just never seen the light of day because I don’t have a lot of confidence in my writing/storytelling. So it’s been more of a project just for me. :’)
I’ll insert a few paragraphs of it here though just to give a little more insight about her (her background, her personality, etc) <3
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Year 843:
That day had finally come; the day that Ilyana Hoover dreaded every single day since her adopted brother, Bertolt, had told her that he wanted to become a warrior. Today was the day she watched him inherit the Colossal Titan.  She couldn't believe it, she didn't want to. Thirteen years. Thirteen years is all she had left with him. For years she had tried to talk him out of it. But here she is now. Watching him train for his upcoming mission in Paradis with the now Armored Titan and Female Titan. She's going with them on their mission. She had already decided that long ago; she told herself no matter what the outcome was today that she would be there for him. She knows her brother. He's emotional, sometimes weak, and anxious. No matter what role they decide to give her in the mission, she would do it, she would go. If only to protect him.
"I really don't think you should come along, Ilyana. It's going to be dangerous. We don't know what these island devils are capable of. Stay here and look after mom. She needs you." He pleads with her that evening.
"You're really lecturing me over it being dangerous? Bert, you're scared of your own shadow most of the time" She sighs. "If I don't go with you and something happens to you, I wouldn't be able to live with that. I already made up my mind. I don't trust Reiner to protect you, either. You and I both know how hot headed and emotional he can be at times. Mom will be just fine. She's got dad here to watch over her. You know he'd never let her roam the streets alone."
He shakes his head and pinches the bridge of his nose. She's right. He knows she is; and he knows there's no convincing her otherwise. His sister has always been stubborn. A bit hot headed herself at times. He knows she just wants the best for him. She's always been protective of him. But he can't help but wish she'd believe in him, just this one time. He knows he can handle himself. He's been through the training, he knows what to expect; what he's getting himself into.
Ilyana always knew she was different from the others of her kind. Born a Marleyan but adopted at a young age by an Eldian family; the Hoover family. They’d found her alone on the street one evening and decided to take her in; a few years later came Bertolt. She never knew her real parents, nor what had happened to them. Every Marleyan here was disgusted by the Eldians. She had watched her family be talked down to, pushed around and spit at walking down the streets. But growing up and living in an Eldian family made her feel much differently towards them. She had read the history books, heard all of the rumors; But she refused to believe they were all as bad as the people of Marley had made them out to be. She loved the Hoovers. They had always treated her like their own. The least she could do in return for everything they'd done for her is watch after their son, her brother; blood relation or not. She would protect him with her life.
————————
TLDR: Ilyana Hoover is a Marleyan; she was adopted by the Hoovers at a young age. She’s extremely protective over her brother, Bertolt. She finds herself feeling super sympathetic towards all Eldians; including the ones on the island. Shes confident, not afraid to hold her own ground/speak up for herself; but can also be extremely hot headed & rash. (Which causes for some bickering with Levi later on in the story) she travels to the island with the Warriors as a spy.
(Also all artwork of them is done by the lovely @/catyypss)

For reijeanweek day 5, I'd like to offer something for the prompt soulmates - something that can be barely classified as headcanons, just a very rough draft of something that might have taken place if aot world had soulmates.
My go-to soulmate subtrope for this outline is the soulmate's name appearing on the hand.
While Reiner and Jean do have each other's names written on their hands, therefore making them soulmates, but the problem is that Marley and Paradis are using different alphabets so they are unable to read each other's names since it looks like gibberish to them.
That is, until Reiner is sent to the Paradis and as a preparation for the invasion, he is taught Paradisian alphabet and can finally read the name. The revelation throws Reiner through a loop — since he realizes that his true love is actually one of the "Island Devils" that he is supposed to hate — but ultimately sows the future seeds of his disenchantment with the Marleyan propaganda.
Two years must pass after the Fall of Shiganshina before Reiner could finally meet Jean who, admittedly, doesn't make a great first impression but due to soulmate magic Reiner is head over heels for him nonetheless. Revealing the soulmate's name written is not very common (especially amongst the teenage boys who seem to be allergic to being vulnerable) and the fact that Reiner's name is not written in Paradisian alphabet would definitely raise some suspicions for Jean so Reiner decides not to reveal their soulmate bond to him, instead opting for pining for him by spending time during trainings and missions together.
Meanwhile, Jean has zero knowledge of the existence of the other alphabets so he is doomed to forever assume that the supposed name of his soulmate is nothing but gibberish. Ultimately Jean concludes that the one true love for him doesn't exists and becomes disenchanted with the concept of soulmates. That is, until Jean meets Reiner in the Cadet Corps. Unaware that one of his closest companions is, in fact, his soulmate, Jean begins to develop feelings for someone he believes is not destined for him. This leads him to contemplate the concept of serendipity, pondering the idea that he is free to love anyone of his choosing, rather than someone preordained by fate.
That belief is quick to change, though, once Reiner reveals his true allegiance and subsequently betrays Jean's feelings for him. After two battles against the Warriors — first within the interior of Wall Maria and second in Shiganshina — Jean finds himself completely heartbroken. In an attempt to cope, he comforts himself with the notion that love is ultimately not for him. Over the four years that follow, as Jean attempts to forget his feelings for Reiner and channel his sense of betrayal into hatred, he is utterly failing in both (in actuality it's just the soulmate bond the two of them have established over the year doing its magic).
Until the time comes for the Survey Corps to venture out onto the Continent where much later they start preparing for a raid on Liberio. Seeing as Jean was chosen to be one of the Paradis spies, he has to blend in with the Marleyan society which, of course, includes him learning the alphabet. And only then, seven years after their first encounter and living in ignorance, Jean realizes that Reiner was his soulmate all along. Many thoughts race through Jean's head at the onset of this revelation. Some of them are relief that he is in fact entitled to love in his life. Some of them are justified frustration with Reiner that never told him about this despite presumably finding out about that years in ahead. Yet, the most persistent thought lingering in his mind is the anticipation of their impending encounter in Liberio — an encounter that won't resemble the reunion of lovers in the slightest.
(But Jean will find him and make it work, at least one of them has to be decisive, after finally getting their chance to experience love again)
And that's essentially where it concludes, since I find myself at a loss for a fitting ending to this narrative. Consider this my collection of musings. It will await the insight of someone wiser who may craft a more logical ending for all of this.

I’d like to ask why do you think Eren allowed himself to be killed at the end? Is it because he was suicidal because of the guilt of his own actions and allowed Mikasa to kill him to just put him out of his misery?
or is it because he saw the future knowing his friends would fight him and put and end to the titan curse which caused to Eren change his goals from wanting to kill all the world to make his friends into heroes to free them from his actions?
or is it because allowing himself to be killed ultimately made him evade responsibility of his own actions? Because I read an analysis from someone saying that Eren wanted to do the rumbling because he wanted complete agency of his actions but didn’t want to accept any sort of responsibility or consequences. By having god like powers like the founding titan, you can essentially do want you want but most people would not accept responsibility or consequences because you are a god. It’s easier to become a devil or a god but not a human being accepting responsibility. Eren would rather make the situation worse for his own benefit rather than facing the fact he is the problem. Which is why dragged his friends into trauma and chaos.
what do you think?
I think it was that Eren knew what he had done was unforgivable and that it put him beyond redemption. There wasn't any coming back from it, and he knew it. He knew he had to die. Eren's guilt was very real, and it consumed him. Remember how he was in Marley, when the Survey Corps visited there? He was deeply despondent and detached from everything, and when he confessed his true motivation to Ramzi, he began to sob and expressed genuine remorse. Eren knew what he was in that moment. He couldn't deny it to himself any longer. But I think up to that point, he'd tried very hard to do so. Back on Paradis, he makes the attempt by telling his friends that he wants to protect them, but what this really is is an attempt to convince himself. He knows the future. He sees what he does. He's trying to convince himself before they leave for Marley that it's to protect his friends, to ensure they have a long and happy life. It's a way for him to cope with the ugly reality staring him in the face, which is that he wants to destroy the world. He makes another stab at convincing himself of this in the scene with Hange, too, once he's brought back to the island and imprisoned. When he grabs Hange through the bars and screams at her about her supposed failure to find any, other way to solve the conflict. He's completely full of shit. He knows there were other options and other routes they could have taken. It was his own doing, his own actions that set into motion the imminent attack facing Paradis. His own actions which brought the world's forces down on the island. People don't get this about Eren. Everything he says about wanting to protect his friends, everything he says about erasing the Titan curse, or safeguarding the island, it's all a lie. Lies he tells both himself and others as a means to cope with his intense guilt.
The issue for Eren comes when they get to Marley, and he's looking around and he realizes that all of the people he sees are just regular people. They aren't evil, and they aren't his enemy. But he knows he's going to kill them, anyway. He realizes he wants to kill them, even as he knows there's no, justifiable reason to do so. I think a large part of the remorse he shows with Ramzi comes from the realization that he is, indisputably, a bad person. He begins to cry because he can't deny it to himself. In that moment, he has to fully face the reality of who he is, and that's someone who wants to wipe out all of humanity in order to shape the world into the image he saw in Armin's book. In order to achieve his idea of personal freedom. A world devoid of humanity. That's Eren's dream, and he doesn't care who he has to hurt or kill in order to accomplish it, including the very friends he claimed only to want to protect.
That's demonstrated by Sasha's death. That's demonstrated by Hange's death. That's demonstrated by Levi's body being destroyed. That's demonstrated by the fact he pulls all of them into a war they didn't ask for or want. That's demonstrated by him forcing them to fight against him, a person they loved and cared about. Even forcing Mikasa to kill him was incredibly selfish. He caused her untold trauma and heartbreak by putting her in that position. What Eren did never had anything to do with him wanting to better the world, or his friend's circumstances, or wanting to end the Titan curse. It only ever had to do with the fulfillment of a selfish desire. Eren acts like a child because he is a child. He has the selfishness of a child, the compulsiveness, the stupidity and the pettiness. He has a child's inability to accept reality. People try to say Eren's character was "retconned" when he put his friends in danger, but no, Eren's character never changed. He was always putting his friends in danger, always running ahead and leaving them behind, not caring how it affected them or impacted their lives. We see it early on, with him wanting to join the Survey Corps, and not caring that by doing so, Mikasa will surely follow, thus putting herself in harms way for his sake. We see it with him continually getting into fights with other children, not caring that it's Mikasa who always has to bail him out, or that it negatively impacts his mother. He says it's to protect Armin, but it never was about that. It was because Eren was bored and wanted something to happen. Remember, when he's sitting and staring up at the sky, and he says "I wish something would happen"? That's all he's ever cared about. He always wanted chaos because he wanted to relieve his own disappointment with the way the world was. He always felt shackled by the mundane nature of reality. He felt like he was being oppressed by it, which is where this whole concept of freedom formed in his head. It was always rooted in boredom. He believed he could accomplish some sort of self-satisfaction through the creation of chaos and violence. It's why he attacks Mikasa's kidnappers, too. It wasn't to save Mikasa, it was to alleviate his own boredom. He goes directly against his father's instructions when he does that, without ever thinking how it would affect Grisha if he were to be killed. And we see it all throughout the story, with Eren constantly needing to be rescued because he acted recklessly, and every time he needed to be rescued because of his own stupidity and selfishness, people died as a result.
People don't understand Eren's character at all. He was never a good person. He was always a horribly selfish and petty child, one that never grew up or matured because he was simply incapable of it. He says it to Zeke himself. Nothing made him that way. He was just born like that.
Anyone trying to fit Eren's actions into some heroic or selfless sacrifice on his part, or to frame his actions as such, are deluding themselves. Nothing he ever did was selfless or heroic. He was always acting for his own satisfaction, and that's it. If people would just accept that simple fact about his character, AoT in general would make a lot more sense to them.

“It’s what’s best for her.” Reiner mumbled to himself as he pulled open the small dresser, reaching inside to grab a few of his shirts still left there.
“It’s… what’s best for both of us.” His words tumbled about in his mouth, almost as if they contained a bitter taste that he was reluctant to swallow. “Yeah… that’s right…it’s what’s best.” He repeated, hesitation filling his tone; almost as if he was struggling to convince himself of the very words slipping past his own lips.
As he stood up, reaching for another one of his belongings on the desk nearby, he heard commotion suddenly rumble behind him. His eyes quickly glanced over his shoulder at the sound, witnessing the way you moved around in your sleep to resettle your body upon the mattress.
His anxious expression began alleviating at the mere sight of you, a hidden smile threatening to tug at his lips the longer he gazed at your sleeping figure.
Oh, how beautiful you looked as you rested there. How painfully angelic was your sleeping face as the moonlight shone upon it; almost as if the soft rays of light were intentionally mocking him by illuminating that innocent face of yours, attempting to get him to change his mind about his plans to leave you behind.
But he couldn’t change his mind, could he? Not when he knew staying would only cause you more grief; that being with someone like him was impossible with the kind of world he lived in.
Reiner knew you wouldn’t have let him go through with his plans had you been privy to them, so that’s why he was here: gathering his belongings in the dead of night so he wouldn’t have to face you; so he wouldn’t have to see that painful expression etch across your face once you found out he was abandoning you.
He couldn’t do that to you, nor to himself. It was better to just let you find out after he was already gone. Otherwise, if he tried to explain it to you face to face then he might end up changing his mind, giving in to your distressed pleas and deciding to stay even though he knew he couldn’t.
It was a cowardly thing to do, to sneak off like a thief in the night without even saying goodbye, or giving a proper explanation at the very least, but Reiner wasn’t strong enough to tell you the truth without breaking.
So there he was, shakily reaching for each of his possessions in the dark expanse of your barracks as you slept unknowingly across the room.
What a mess this all turned into…
If only Reiner had just kept to himself in the first place like he was supposed to then none of this would be happening right now. If only he wouldn’t have gotten involved with one of the devils from this cursed island when he knew he shouldn’t.
Maybe then he wouldn’t be here, clenching his lips together in hopes to conceal the sobs stinging at the back of his throat; shakily packing up his things to meet up with Bertholdt afterward.
If Reiner would’ve just focused solely on his mission from the start, then maybe he wouldn’t have to glance behind his shoulder every time he heard movement, checking that you hadn’t woken up yet to see him leaving.
If he would’ve simply followed his orders, then he wouldn’t have that undeniable sense of guilt tugging at his heart as he continued to place his possessions in that bag, hoping to already be gone by the time you awakened for breakfast.
“Don’t forget why we came here, Reiner. She’s just a devil anyways.” Bertholdt’s words replayed through Reiner’s mind as he grasped another item in between his fingers.
A devil, that’s right, that’s all you were, wasn’t it?
At least, that’s what he assumed when he first came to the island…
Your people were supposed to be vicious demons, descendants of a vile creature that terrorized the world thousands of years ago. Whatever cruel actions he planned to commit would all be justified because the people on this island deserved it.
That’s what he was told, but as he glanced back at you yet again, he just couldn’t find any truth in it anymore.
If you really were just a devil, then why did he find it so hard to leave you behind? Why did his body seem to freeze when he heard the gentle call of his name that unconsciously slipped past your lips as you turned over in that bed once more?
Why were his knees buckling where he stood, barely able to keep him upright with the overwhelming sense of remorse weighing him down.
If you were really nothing more than a disgusting demon, then why was he trying so hard to restrain himself from crawling into that bed and pulling you into his arms?
A real devil wouldn’t have shown the kind of love and patience he received from you. A real devil wouldn’t have stayed up late every night to comfort him after he had woken up from another nightmare. A real devil would have never been as precious and beautiful as you were.
If you really were the things he was told as a child, then how on earth were you able to make him feel the way you did, like his life actually mattered more than just his job as a soldier?
The kind words that always seemed to slip past your beautiful lips, almost like you knew exactly when he needed them, the soft embrace you’d pull him into when he needed reassurance, even the gentle smile that always adorned your lovely face: none of it could’ve ever been possible for you unless you really weren’t the type of “devil” he was made to believe.
He had tried to deny it for so long, because that would mean everything he was told was a lie. But even so, he still couldn’t deny the fact you were living proof of his false accusations; that in the end he really was wrong about the people on this island.
You were never a devil, you were an angel; the same one who saved him from his hollowness and showed him he was capable of being loved.
And coincidentally, the same angel he would leave broken in tears as he departed from this island for good…
Reiner hated himself for the pain he knew he’d be putting you through by leaving, even more so for involving you in a relationship with him when he knew he wouldn’t be able to stay. It was a selfish thing for him to do, to keep you in his life despite knowing he’d have to bring it all to an end sooner or later. He knew it was cruel to hang on like this, but he just couldn’t bring himself to let you go; not when you were the only person he felt valued with.
Oh, what he would give just to have you cuddled against him once more, or to hear that adorable laugh of yours even for just a minute. Tears started gathering in his eyes just thinking about the way he’d never receive that again, how he’d never see that gentle gaze in your eyes anymore, or even the feeling of your warm hand intertwined with his. The mere thought had his heart clenching in agony.
If only there was another way the two of you could be together, if only things weren’t bound to end like this…
You were just an innocent soul, one he fell hopelessly in love with, and one he wanted nothing more than to stay beside for as long as he could.
Maybe, in another life, he could’ve given you the love you deserved, or even that family he knew you always desired to have.
But nevertheless, that wasn’t the reality he lived in now, meaning he’d have to go through with his dreadful mission and leave you behind for good.
The very thought had his heart splitting into pieces, however, the thought of endangering you by staying was more powerful than that twisting in his chest.
You deserved so much better than him. You deserved to live a peaceful life with a husband who would stick by your side no matter what, but you’d never be able to have that if he stayed.
So, for your sake, he made his way over to that tiny mattress you were sleeping on, preparing to utter his goodbyes to your unconscious figure.
His hand reached to caress your cheek gently as you lay there, eyes looming over you with a loving gaze as he reminisced on the memories you’ve made together.
All the nights he’d spend holding you in his arms, all the meals you shared together while conversing in the dining hall, every moment spent with you was one he wished could last forever. But all good things had to come to an end eventually, which is why he’d lean down to place one last tender kiss on your forehead. His lips rested there for a moment, soaking in the feeling of your skin and inhaling your calming scent for the last time before he had to pull away.
“Goodbye, my angel.” A gentle whisper. That was the last thing he left you with before he gathered his belongings and walked out that door.
He had made his choice, and he couldn’t go back now, especially after the massacre his team ensued in the battle that wiped out more than half of the military corps, and especially after the way you froze when he turned into that monster they call the armored titan.
He’d never seen you look at him that way: eyes widening in betrayal, lips quivering in anguish. Your heart was already beginning the demolition he forsaught when he planned this long ago. Now he was watching it unfold firsthand, a front-row seat to the misery he could’ve easily spared you from had he not dragged you into a relationship in the first place.
Your eyes stung with tears, your knees lowering to the ground in agony, even your cries of confusion: they were all because of him, his wretched being and all the horrifying crimes he committed against you and your people.
Even if he tried to go back and fix things, he knew nothing would ever be the same again, not after the way you looked at him.
Nothing he could ever do would be enough to win you back now; all the more reason for him to just continue on and let you go. After all, he had a mission to complete, the same mission he should’ve never gotten sidetracked from in the first place.
So now he’d make sure to complete his mission, earning himself the title of a hero for “defeating” his enemies after returning home to Marley.
He was back to where he started, back to the place that told him all those lies he so stupidly believed years ago.
Marley was supposed to be his home, it was quite literally the place he was born, but nonetheless, nothing changed the fact that his real home was somewhere else now.
He’d hide behind a smile and play his part as a military hero to perfection, but, nothing could ever erase the longing he harbored towards the person he left behind, the same person he wanted nothing more than to escape back to.
However, he couldn’t, because no matter how much he wished otherwise, the world he lived in didn’t allow a devil such as himself to unite with an innocent human.
He had it wrong from the very beginning, his superiors were right about there being devils in this world, but not in the way he thought.
He just never realized it until now.
It was never you…
No, the real demon was always him.

I was totally thinking about doing a part two with this where y/n and Reiner reunite during Eren’s attack on Marley because the angst would be soooo good😭🙏🏻 Would anyone want that because I’m totally wanting to write it!

Someone To Love|Part 2|Reiner x Jealous Reader
Tumblr media
(A/N: It's kind of nice and out of my normal style to write a much more wholesome romance, but I can't say I dislike it. You gotta have the fluff with your angst. And since this is going with yandere Levi it's good to have a bit of a change of pace. Comment to be added to the taglist!)
WARNINGS: implied nsfw, depression, attempted suicide, violence, general angst, slowburn, lowkey love triangle with a happy ending, not a warning but Reiner calls you nicknames instead of y/n (because I personally can't stand it)
==============================================
It felt like the air had been knocked out of her lungs.
"An Island Devil?"
"I know, it's crazy, trust me I already know that. Especially after everything they did to Bertholdt and Annie. I don't know, I just feel...good about myself and safe around her."
She clears her throat, trying to keep the wad of emotion down in her chest so it doesn't spill out all at once. "And you say her name is Evelyn? I..uhm- tell me about her-"
Reiner leans back with a shy smile. "Well for starters she's short, really short, but she's also fun, and super sweet, an impressive fighter, and pretty on top of that. Like the ultimate package."
"How did you meet her?"
"When I was under cover she was one of the Scout officers, I didn't get to see a whole lot of her since she was part of Captain Levi's squad, but still. As far as Island Devils go she's one of the sweetest people I've ever met."
"Does she know who you are?"
Now Reiner frowns, apparently a sore spot for him. "Yes she does, when we fled I exposed who I was to her...and she said she hated me."
She tries to hide her relief with a deep breath, it wouldn't help anything to outwardly show how glad she was of that.
"So you'll never see her again."
"Until we return to Paradis to reclaim the Founder it seems unlikely." His mood changed, his tone becoming more and more depressed.
"That's too bad. She sounds wonderful."
"Yeah...she was." Reiner rests his elbow on the table, staring into the wooden pattern. "By now she's probably married off to Captain Levi, no screw that, why should I respect him with a title, to Levi."
"Who's Levi?" She didn't know who he was but if he was able to give Reiner closure with this unattainable crush she'd be thankful to him.
"Selfish bastard. Captain of the Survey Corps and man does he abuse that. Always unfairly punishing everyone and demanding respect." He shakes his head. "Creep watched Evelyn like some kind of sick stalker. There were many times I got punished for being anywhere near her. Asshole."
"Maybe you just didn't understand their dynamic?"
"Impossible, it was so obvious he was sick in the head. But no one saw it but me."
Bravely she reaches out to touch his hand. "It'll be okay Reiner, you can move on now. Forget about what happened their and live the rest of your life in peace."
"The rest of my life." He scoffs. "What short time I have left."
The thought made her wince, but he had a point. If she didn't try harder he'd be killed and they'd never have that life she dreamed of, even if it was for a short time.
"That's why you need to make the most of it."
Reiner nods, taking in her words. "You're right, sitting here sulking over what could have been won't get me anything but wasted time." A smile comes to his face. "Thanks kid, you always make me believe in myself."
She blushed a little at the nickname, even after all of this he still saw her as the same girl from their childhood. "No problem, you're my friend and I want to help you."
Reiner's face turns solemn again but before he can speak his mind a soldier comes up to their table.
"Reiner Braun, Commander Magath has sent for you."
"Right now? Is it urgent?"
"He said to come right away."
Reiner offers an apologetic glance before standing and hurrying to follow the young soldier, leaving her alone.
She couldn't put her finger on it, but she had a bad feeling about all of this.

Hajime Isayama is a genius. And here's why: a tangent
The fourth season of Attack On Titan (AOT/Shingeki No Kyojin) is the epitome of
The enemy of my enemy is my friend.
Keep that in mind as you, if anybody, reads this.
Eren's villain arc makes total sense. Don't get me wrong, the ending was fucked. But it made so much sense.
With the entirety of the series being about freedom and him having the Attack Titan's power to "see" the future, Eren—as dumb and idiotic as he can be—realised, I think, that in order for the world to stop seeing Paradis as their foe (for the world to stop seeing Eldian's in general as their foe) and for them to have the freedom he so desperately dreamed about from the day Armin showed him that book, they needed a common enemy. But there wasn't one: there was just hatred and violence towards others who were just a little different. So he realised that, in the end, he had to become that. He had the strength and power, and he knew that. He could be that for the people. He could be the reason that the people of Marley and Paradis unite and fight side by side instead of fighting each other. He honestly even told Armin as much.
ARMIN: It was all to push us away from you... and make us into heroes who save humanity from extinction by taking you down?
EREN: Yeah. You guys will become saviors to all that's left of humanity. You turned your backs on Paradis in spite of being "Island Devils," and sided with humanity to the end.
Eren became what no one else wanted to. What no one thought he'd become. For the sake of the people that meant the world to him: Armin, Mikasa, Connie, Sasha, and even Jean (side note: I loved their rivalry. It made things light and fun even in dark times). He says that in order for things to go the way they needed to, future him sent the titan towards his mother instead of Bertholdt. Eren had to do the hardest things of his life towards the end: one being becoming someone he's not for the sake of the greater good (poor babies. Honestly, he was convincing as the villain: he had all the justifications to be that person. But he wasn't, down to his core, mean and cruel as he so convincingly portrayed himself to be. He even had his best friends fooled. Up until Armin heard about the eradication plan. At that point, Armin called his bullshit—which is fair).
He showed his father memories, fake and real, of what's to come to make him convince Zeke, which was very clever. He controlled Yimr enough—with Zeke's help of course—to make her attack his friends with titans from the past to put on a good show, not knowing whether or not they'd make it out alive (he hoped and his hope and knowledge that his friends—no, family—were skilled enough to stay alive). He definitely knew his death was coming, and he knew he had to continue on, even if that meant causing his loved ones pain; the pain of his death moreso than anything.
Eren made Marley team up with Paradis. To fight an enemy they both had in common instead of each other. To make Marley and the rest of the world see sense (though as Historia said: "The fight will not end even after the Titans have vanished. Eren told me everything about the future he knows. Even if he can't see the future past that point, he was able to see this future vividly. I'm sure this outcome was not just the result of Eren's choices. This world is the result of the choices we all made. We must fight. So we won't have to fight anymore. Even if it means to live a living hell devoid of peace...")
Hense the reason I say that the fourth season is the epitome of "The enemy of my enemy is my friend." He knew that if they had a common enemy, they'd unite and fight together, not against each other. There was no need for senseless killing. He didn't want that.
Oh and don't even get me STARTED on the symbolism. My GOD that struck me like a fucking truck. Like, the shot of the scouts saluting Levi as he sat against that bolder only for the camera to pan to the Wings Of Freedom on Erwins back as he disappears along with them. UGH.
And then the biRD PULLING AT MIKASA'S SCARF ONLY TO FLY AWAY. LIKE, WHY WOULD YOU SHOW ME THAT??? Im CrYiNg!!!!!
Eren is finally free.

(Let me know if you want to be tagged)
————
There’s something familiar about the place below, about the smell of the wind that blows through the open hatch. There’s something more to this Reiner Braun who keeps staring at you like a wounded animal.
You asked the moment the airship began to fly over the island, and the marshal says it’s not familiarity but the sense of evil, of the devils that live below. He says it’s because there resides your mission. You’ve been told to trust them since the moment you can remember, so you do. You believe him.
“Ready to comply, Ackerman?”
You blink and slowly drag your gaze up and meet the cold gaze of the marshal. “Ready,” you deadpan.
“What’s your mission?” He asks.
You remain stiff and report, “kill Eren Jaeger and all the devils that help him.”
——
*A COUPLE WEEKS BACK*
“Subject 238 pulse steady…”
Bright lights blind your eyes.
“…no exterior injuries…”
Every muscle you have screams in anguish, and your head…fuck…that hurts, it’s like having dozen of sharp blades stab your head. Why?
“Subject 238 seems to be waking up.”
Cold hands wrap around your face and tilt your face up, revealing an old doctor with beady eyes and glasses. His face is unfamiliar though, shouldn’t you recognize him?
He flashes a light in your eyes, making you groan and look away.
“Pupils normal.” So it’s him that’s talking.
He lets your face go and steps back. “Ackerman.” He says.
Now that the lights aren’t flashing in your eyes you can finally see normally.
“Ackerman,” he repeats.
That’s you. You know that because….someone said it before to you. This same doctor. In a dream.
You blink and meet his gaze, however you don’t say anything.
“State your name, subject 238,” he demands.
You swallow thickly and relieve the dryness that scratched your throat. “Ackerman,” you answer hoarsely. That’s all there is.
“Count how many fingers I'm holding,” he says and lifts his hands and puts up three fingers.
“Three,” you point out.
The doctor turns back and slides something off the table. When he turns he holds up a red paper. “What color is this?”
“Red,” you mumble.
The doctor hums and then grabs some weird recorder from his pocket. “Coherent response seems to be good. Now we’ll see if the experiment worked.” He walks away, letting you finally take in the place you’re at, every little thing you can see.
You recognize this office, the desk, the bed you lay on, the chair that has wires, straps and a helmet. You remember the white walls. It all comes in flashes but you know it.
“Tell me Ackerman, who is this?” The doctor asks, pulling your gaze to the paper he holds.
It’s a drawing of a young man with narrowed green eyes , black hair that seems to be tied back, and a menacing scowl. You recognize him too from flashes and dreams. Albeit he enrages you, he sparks a need for blood. “Eren Jaeger. The Attack Titan,” you respond.
The doctor lowers the drawing and picks up another, this time it’s a group of them, a group of…devils.
“Those are the devils from Paradis,” you mutter with anger.
“Yes,” the doctor agrees. “Very well.” He stands up and talks to his recorder again. “Emotions detected is rage, lining up with what we told her. Seems to have no memory of any of them, just as planned. Project 238 is proving to be the first successful experiment. Which is no surprise she has Ackerman blood. Now we will bring in Vice Chief Braun.”
Hold no memories? What does he mean?
The door opens and footsteps approach your bed, you look over and see a tall muscular blond man who seems to have been wounded. His eyes are gleaming and his lips are turned to a frown. You recognize him too, just the same way you recognize everything else, between dreams and flashes. Albeit there’s something about his eyes, about his face that’s different from the drawings.
“Ackerman,” the doctor says and walks up behind Reiner Braun. “Who is this?”
Reiner Braun stops beside you and he looks even more hurt.
“Vice Chief Reiner Braun,” you state with conflicted emotions. You feel disgust, but also some form of trust. “Devil and ally. The Armored Titan.”
Reiner swallows thickly and parts his lips, but the doctor grabs his shoulder and interjects.
“Don’t say anything that might confuse her. She is as of now a Marleyan citizen and elite soldier. With one mission. State your mission Ackerman.”
Now you feel determination and anger, burning anger.
You clench your jaw and narrow your gaze on them both. “I will kill Eren Jaeger, and all the devils that help him.”
——
*NOW*
Why doesn’t the familiarity about this town go away? It’s like at the tip of your tongue, but no matter what you can’t figure out why the streets, why the buildings, and the very soldiers that try to fight back your Marleyan companions just have that sense of familiarity….
Nevertheless, there’s no time for that now, focus on the matter at hand. The battle that you watch from the shadows, the fight with the Armored Titan against the Attack Titan; they exchange blow after blow, but the Attack Titan fights with more rage; he never falters, he always has the upper hand. The Jaw Titan joins in and it’s the same thing, the Attack Titan doesn’t let them breathe. It’s sort of impressive in some aspects, but you’re not on his side.
So when the Cart Titan finally manages to shoot him through the head, you can’t help but feel pride.
You wrap your hands around your weapons handle and shift your feet against the floor eagerly, but you have to wait. They said to wait until the second shot so he’s weaker, even if the other titans are losing you wait so as to not lose you.
However, both the Jaw and Armored Titan escape the spikes that kept them captive, so you continue to wait. As Jaw goes away, the Armored Titan charges at the Attack Titan with one of the spikes. That seems to fill the Attack Titan with rage though, he lets out a mighty roar and a yellow light flashes out from him before he makes more spikes implode out, causing the Armored Titan to get stabbed and pushed back by them.
Is it your turn now?
You bend your legs to jump off the bell tower, but Jaw returns, so you continue to wait. Nevertheless, the Attack Titan manages to swing his fist back and hurls Jaw back. So the fucker still has strength, great now you wait even longer.
The Armored Titan tackles him down and they continue to fight, or the Attack Titan keeps getting the upper hand, mustering a roar so loud you have to cover your ears. And just as you do, just before the Attack Titan can rip the Armored Titans jaw off, a rock suddenly hits from behind, causing him to be thrown back by the impact.
You drop your hands and look to where it comes from and see the traitor, the Beast Titan. Fuck. Fuck.
“Sorry I'm late,” his voice travels out loudly from the wall he’s perched on. “But I made it to your date. Good job holding out so far, Eren. Let your brother take it from here.”
Now it’s your turn. Finally.
You shoot the grapples to the ground and then hit the triggers to zoom towards the Attack Titan. He tries to walk to his brother, but you fly faster. The Armored Titan recuperates and tries to attack the Attack Titan, but the Beast hits him again. He doesn’t see you though, neither does the Attack Titan, you move too fast.
By the time the Attack Titan does notice you, it’s when you’re lifting your blade and slicing his nape, he tries to catch you with his hand, but you quickly swing back around and stab your hand through the flesh and yank him out with all your strength. The steam that blows out hurts, but you push yourself away and throw Eren back. You watch him fall, you meet his green eyes that widen in surprise at the sight of you, and smirk at him.
Eren proceeds to try and cut his hand wherever he can to transform, so you fly down faster and claw his face to slam it down against the stone ground.
Since he was close to the ground already it does no damage, he just doesn’t transform. “Tell me your name,” he spats out. “The name given to you when you were three.”
You blink in confusion and slowly lift your hand off his face.
“You don’t remember,” he tells you. “Because they took it from you. Dig deeper and tell me.”
There it is again the feeling like you remember between flashes and dreams.
Eren Jaeger…
He’s the enemy. Devil.
“Shut up!” You grimace and punch him again and again. He doesn’t hold back and manages to kick you back, hitting the long slashes on your torso already.
“Ugh,” you groan and fall back.
Eren stomps towards you with a sad frown. “I don’t want to fight you,” he mutters.
You curl your lip to a scowl and push yourself up to your feet and pull your blade. “Good,” you counter smugly. “It will make things easier. You’ll die faster and I’ll go home.”
Eren scoffs. “Where’s that?”
You try to recall, but nothing comes to mind. What is he doing? Why is playing with you like this?
Devil.
You let out an angry cry and swing down at him, but Eren throws his hand up. He wants to catch it, so instead you use your foot and kick him back. You then sheath your blade and run at him. Eren swerves you though, making you stumble forward. “Fucker,” you hiss and turn on your heels, he swings his fist, but you swerve his fist and quickly rebuttal by swinging your other fist and landing a left hook on his jaw.
Eren groans, and you proceed to use your advantage and kick his leg to knock him down to his knees. You then lunge forward and grab him by his throat. Eren slaps his hands on your shoulders to try and push you back, but you move your hands to his own shoulders and use your incredible strength to throw him over to the side with ease.
He rolls on the ground, so you roll your shoulders back and turn to return to him and finish the job. However, as you do you catch Jaw trying to charge at Eren as he’s in human form, but he fails and gets hit by the beast's rocks.
“Damn,” you pant.
But he’s the idiot for not staying put, so whatever. You now face Eren, but he’s not where you threw him. He’s not far either, he’s trying to run towards his brother who is now on the ground wounded by a bullet; because of your fighting you didn’t even notice when he got shot. It’d be good but Eren has more accessibility to him now, so if he wants to run so will you.
You charge at him at full speed, and quickly manage to tackle him to the ground. Eren counters by throwing his head back against you, making you yelp at the feeling of the pain on your nose. He uses your distraction and flips around, you ignore your pain and try to fight him, but he then stabs his fingers through your slashes and kicks you back harshly, making you cry out as he opens part of that wound again.
As to how you got them? You can’t remember, but they were still healing, and now he’s added more pain.
“Find Mikasa and the others,” you hear him through your pain.
“Fuck—” Before you can finish though, lightning strikes down and he suddenly transforms. The force of his transformation, throws you back. Before you can hit your head on the ground though, something catches you, something hot and fleshy. When you look back you see Jaw.
You don’t know him, you know he’s your ally and a devil. He…like the others triggers you to feel the same thing, only a sense of familiarity, but nothing else besides that.
Alas he lets you go and charges forward and bites Eren’s leg. You back away and take cover agaisnt the houses, and just watch as the Attack Titan slams his fist down on Jaw, multiple times.
They said not to intervene so you don’t, you can only watch as Jaw gets destroyed. However, not much longer a bullet whizzes by and hits the Attack Titan in the head, knocking him to the ground. Now it’s time to go again.
You ignore the pain that troubles you and shift into your stance, but just before you can hit the trigger to fly to the Attack Titan, the Armored Titan begins to fight the Attack Titan, so you once again have to wait for your opening hidden in the houses.
“It’s time to call the Titans.”
Beast. He’s still alive? Damn.
Guess killing him is your next mission for now.
You shoot your grapples towards the building across and fly. Just before you can land on the roof you make a sharp turn and raise your blades, but alas a voice you barely catch makes you pause when you land on another roof.
“Wait!” Colt, the next warrior for the Beast Titan exclaims. There’s a boy beside him as well, it must be the brother they were talking about on the airship….he seems oddly familiar in the same sense as everything else.
“It’s Falco. He drank your spinal fluid! Please stop, Zeke!”
If Beast betray Marley why would he let himself get killed over one boy?
“Don’t you remember?” Colt adds as he hits his chest with his hand. “I earned the right to inherit the Beast so my family wouldn’t get sent to paradise!”
“Colt, let go of me! Colt!” The brother named Falco, if you remember correctly, yells at his brother. But to no avail.
“Honestly,” Colt says. “I never knew what was going through your head even before you betrayed us! Ever! But you’re not the kind of person who could get an innocent child involved like it’s nothing! I’m not asking you to sit back and die! But please just wait until Falco gets out of your screams range! After that, you can murder everyone for all I care! Marleyans, Eldians, it doesn’t matter to me who you kill! But leave my brother out of it!”
Such an admirable attempt. Shame it won’t work.
Now would be the perfect opportunity to kill Beast, but this gives the Marshall time to reload the gun. Plus you’re curious too, a girl, the other Eldian runaway, comes running in on a horse. Albeit all she can do is just gawk too.
“Colt!” Beast drifts your attention back to his wounded Titan body. “Colt…I understand exactly how you feel about your brother.”
You glance at the Attack Titan still stuck under the Armored Titan and sigh.
“Which is why,” Zeke continues. “This is truly a shame.”
Without another moment of hesitation Beast opens its big jaws and lets out a deafening roar that blows a strong wind out and shakes the foundations of every house, and the ground itself like if it were an earthquake.
Nothing compares to the hundreds of explosions that follow though, the sound booms in your ears making you quickly cover them even if it doesn’t help. The ground shakes more fiercely, causing you to lose balance and tumble down the roof. Luckily you manage to get a hold of the edge of the roof before you hit the ground.
“Shit,” you hiss and throw your other hand on the roof to try and pull yourself up.
But as you do the wounds on your chest send out a sharp pain that makes your hand slip.
“Fuck, damn it!” You curse. You use all your upper body strength and ignore the sharp burning pain to get up.
When you do though, a large hand then swipes over the edge you just been on. You quickly snap your eyes over and see a mindless Titan in your midst. Its creepy wide eyes focus on you, and it suddenly swings, but you manage to use your gear to fly over the hands.
Even with the warning to fear these beasts, there’s a horror already set in you that reminds you of pain and grief, that sets off every possible alarm you have in your mind. It’s that same instinctive fear that lets you act quickly and confuse it by tying its hands with the cords connected to your gear, before you swing around it and cut its nape.
“Yes!” You celebrate to yourself. Now to kill the Beast or the Attack Titan.
When you turn to face the scene though, Beast Titan's body is decomposing and a Titan you assume is the boy Falco is eating a human—no not just any person, the Jaw Titan, Porco Galliard.
Hm. What was the purpose of that? Zeke is dead now, Eren can’t connect with him, it’s over. All that’s left to do is kill Eren Jaeger.
You drift your gaze and see the Armored Titan use his rage to turn around and punch him. Nevertheless, when his fist makes impact, the Attack Titan uses the War Hammers abilities and crystallizes his body and the Armored Titans hand. Which is smart, you have to give him props.
Not only that, but he uses this action to get out of his Titan body and run towards Beast? He’s still alive?
Well even if he is, their plan won’t work. Now you shoot your grapples out and hit the triggers to shoot forward, while you lift your blade to swing down and chop Eren’s head off.
Yet before you can reach him suddenly a body rams into you, knocking you off your path and slamming you into the ground. You proceed to then roll over one another until finally you come to a harsh stop under a young man. He has a long face, light brown eyes and that goes with his light brown hair styled in a…nice mullet. Yes, it’s very nice.
His face though, every inch of it, his eyes down to the deepest depth of his eyes is familiar, he’s like a deja vu, a much prettier dream than everything else.
“Y/N?” He asks with his eye filling with tears and his face expressing utter disbelief.
You blink and hold his gaze with confusion and hesitation before it hits you…he’s a devil. One of Eren's friends.
“No,” you spat back and then slam your head against his before you flip him around and wrap your hands around his throat.
However, before you can tighten your grip, a loud bullet goes off, stealing your attention. And when your eyes land on the scene you slide off the guy as you watch in bafflement how Eren’s head goes flying off his body.
The guy beside you quickly flips around and watches what’s happening in silence.
Is this it? You think to yourself.
You get up and watch as Eren’s hand lands right on Zeke Jaeger’s palms. You hold your breath and once again think, is this it, if this is what leads to the end? But then lightening strikes down on Eren and what was once a head now grows a long spine, a rib cage follows and it all begins to extend for miles.
Calamity doesn’t stop nevertheless, the walls that surround the city crumble, filling the air with debris and a cloud of dust. Through it you see large Titans, Titans just like the Colossal Titan, hundreds of them all emerging from within the wall.
To avoid being hit by debris the guy tries to pick you up, but you shove him away. “Unhand me devil,” your grimace and use your gear to fly to a safe distance. The moment you land though, the wave of the impact hits you and shoves you back, causing you to hit the back of your head on the roof.
Everything then goes black, the chaos happening around you silences, but a rampage begins to ensue in your mind. There’s a man, a tiny man, he’s a blurry image that you can barely depict, but you can hear his deep voice. A familiar and comforting thing.
“What’s your name?”
He asks, but the memory changes just as quick as lightning strikes and more and more memories of him and different people flash in your mind. Nothing is clear, nothing sticks, or changes your mind about what everyone in Paradise is.
In fact it’s all a trick they play, they somehow can do that, they mess with your mind so they can trick you. It won’t be that easy, they won’t get away with it, they’re all devils. And your goal is still clear since Eren escaped death.
Thus with that still in mind you wake up, and the first thing you see is Eren’s long faced friend from mere moments ago. His face is over yours and his hand is on your cheek.
“Y/N?” He asks again.
You narrow your gaze and play along. You slowly raise your hand and cup his cheek. You soften your face and he begins to smile.
“You’re—”
You cut him off before he can continue with more by punching his face. Since you caught him off guard he falls on his back. You quickly then move on top of him and wrap your hands around his throat.
He tries to remove your hands as gently as possible, but you just lift his head and slam it against the roof you’re on.
The guy begins to gasp for air, he begins to squirm and fight back, but you’re stronger and tighten your grip around his throat. However, before you can actually kill him, you’re hit with a superstition, a chill crawls on the back of your neck so you quickly let the guy go and pull out your blade. You then proceed to spin around swiftly and manage to slash someone on the side of the head since he tried to swerve.
When he falls on the ceiling you’re on you get up and stride towards him. That’s when you see a guy with a shaved head, another one of Eren's friends. And you managed to cut off the tip of his ear.
He’s bleeding a lot.
“Y/N?” He asks through the throbbing pain.
You scoff and flip your blade in your hand. “No. Ackerman.”
The guy with the shaved head doesn’t move, he watches you approach him with your blade, he just sits there covering half of his ear with disbelief.
“Cherry!”
At the sound of that name you instinctively freeze. You exhale and slowly turn around, spotting the man possessing the Colossal Titan. Why did you turn though? Why does that name sound familiar, like…like yours?
“This isn’t you,” he exclaims. “I see that now. It explains why you’re alive. Try to remember.”
Remember what?
It’s a trick.
“How about I call you…Cherry?”
No, no. It’s a trick. It’s a trick! They do this, they play tricks.
“Shut up,” you sneer and clench your hands around the blade handle before you charge at him.
However, before you can tackle him, you sense movement behind you so you turn around and kick back the guy with the long face. The man with the shaved head then tries to also attack you, but you swerve and miss his hit.
You snicker at the attempt, and turn around swiftly to catch the Colossal Titan’s attempt by catching his wrist, and then gripping onto the other one.
“I can’t kill you, but I can come close,” you snap back at him and then easily use your strength to turn him around and hurl him at the guy with the long face. They roll on the ceiling, leaving you the shaved hair guy.
“Look it won’t be fair, Cherry. It never has been,” he says as he backs up.
You crack your neck and smirk at him. “Then it’ll be easy. Better for me, baldie.”
“You know,” he points at you. “I hate when you call me that!”
He comes to the edge of the ceiling and shakes his head. “Don’t. You’ll regret it.”
You scoff. “I won’t regret a thing. No regrets.”
Nevertheless, something is approaching from your right side. You look over, but you only catch a quick flash before a body slams onto you. You try to fight off the attacker, but they pin your hands down, so you just look up and spot an Ackerman.
“Mikasa,” you know her name.
Said girl freezes and her hardened expressions falls and softens with hope.
“It’s not too late,” you tell her, plead almost.
Mikasa blinks in confusion.
“We can have a good life. Peace,” you continue. “Please.”
Mikasa swallows thickly and her grip on your wrist loosens. “Tell me,” she breaks her silence with such a graceful voice. “Tell me the name of the man you call dad. And I’ll consider it.”
You pause and look into her eyes for the answer. Dad? Dad?
You can’t remember.
“I,” you mouth and blink. “I don’t know.”
Mikasa exhales softly and her grip tightens again, this time though you don’t try to persuade her, you try to kick her back, but she meets you with a punch, she then knees your already bleeding stitches.
You yell out and you see her face falter at the sound, but she doesn’t let go, she raises her fist again. It shakes in the air, you meet her gaze through your pain and shake your head to try and stop what she wants to do.
Mikasa’s lips wobble, so you use her hesitation to sneak your hand towards the trigger of her Thunder spear.
“Please,” you feign to sound vulnerable. “Mikasa.”
Said girl leaves her fist in the air, and you grab the string and pull.
The Thunder Spear goes flying off, pulling Mikasa’s attention away, and letting you throw her off you. As the explosion hits the roof to the side, debris flies out everywhere and rains down where you are.
This time the pain of being hit in your stitches slows you down, so you have to use all fours to boost yourself up. And it’s when you stand up that the man with the long face lands in front of you. His eyes are glossy and he’s breathing hard.
“I’m sorry,” he whispers and swings his right hand. You end up catching his fist and squeeze it.
Albeit he uses that as a decoy and then swings his left arm to hit the side of your head with the end of his gun.
Everything begins to go black after that, but one voice whispers. “I’m Marco. Marco Bodt.”
“Marco,” you whisper one last time before you’re taken unconscious.
