Fandom things I'm looking forward to:
Kingdom Hearts IV and Missing Link
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth
Final Fantasy IX Remake
Final Fantasy Tactics Remaster or Remake (whichever it is. I've heard both things)
The fourth Madoka Magica movie, whenever that comes out (seriously. Where is it? First it was announced as the Concept movie. Then it was re-announced years later with a new name, and it's still missing)
The Percy Jackson TV show
The Infernal Devices TV show
Maybe the Twilight TV show. Maybe.
The animated Smallville continuation that Tom Welling and Michael Rosenbaum are working on, whenever it comes out
I was going to put Baron and Toluca on this list (that's, like, a spiritual successor to the OG "Roswell" TV show. Majandra Delfino who played Maria in the show wrote the script, and she and Brendan Fehr who played Michael star in it. They're also planning for more Roswell cameos in later episodes), but it came out and I didn't even know it? But I have no idea how to watch it, though, as I guess it only came out in theaters in Albuquerque. Here's hoping it comes out on DVD or something...
The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes
The alleged Firefly reboot
The new Daredevil show
The Batman Part II
The next part in Tom Holland's Spider-Man movies
The DCU, starting with Superman Legacy in 2025
The Five Nights at Freddy's movie and Help Wanted 2
The Iron Lung movie
The TV show that it sounds like Markiplier will be working on after he's done with the Iron Lung movie
The next Bendy and the Ink Machine thing being worked on
MAYBE the Hello Neighbor sequel. I know. I KNOW! (It's really only because the second game had to end on a cliffhanger.)
Five Nights at Candy's 4
Frozen III
Disney's "Wish"
The next and final season of the Clear Card arc of Cardcaptor Sakura
The new Avatar series (the one about the third Avatar in the cycle: the Earth bender)
The live-action Avatar: The Last Airbender series, perhaps
The Chosen season 4
#As for things that haven't been announced#Ffxvi when that of course happens#The ffx remake if that rumor is true#I'm still hoping we'll get one more season of full metal panic to finish off the show. Please don't end things on a cliffhanger!#And no matter what I'll forever and always be pulling for a twewy3. Please give it to us Square. Pretty Please? With sugar on top?#I also still (mostly? Kind of?) wish we had a new Buffy show to look forward to. but alas. maybe someday#also after khiv nomura's all but confirmed that next is a verum Rex. And I'm. Like. Already pre-excited for that if that makes sense. Lol#And I don't know how to feel about the new death note movie adaptation I want to have faith in the Russo brothers but mostly I'm afraid#And I just- I LOVE death note. You all KNOW I love death note. But I just don't know what can be done with the story that hasn't already#been done#Unless you just completely change it and then piss off all of us fans. Again#I said it once and I'll say it again: i wish they were making a code grass movie instead (which has the beats they're looking to adapt in#death note. but other stuff too. and has never gotten a live-action adaptation so at least if nothing else it would be original)#there's also a part of me that wants to get caught up on winx club and see if this new season (that's maybe a soft reboot? but don't quote#me on that) will be better than some of the last ones and start getting the series in the direction in needs to be going again. hopefully#and isn't there some new pokémon season coming out where brock and misty reunite with ash (i read an article about it) which confuses me#because i thought the show ended?#unless the article was just talking about an english dub of the season that already aired in japan or something like that#i also should really get caught up on all of the sailor moon crystal stuff. shame on me for not being so!#somewhat. kind of. the next garten of banban game. God help me#kindergarten 3 if there ever is one#slayers: a buffyverse story would have been on here if they hadn't announced it after i made this list and if i'd remembered to come back#and add it. but i listened to it and loved it:)

Surprises \\ alessia russo x catley!reader
Tumblr media
2017
August 2017. You have just moved from Melbourne, Australia to North Carolina, USA. You wheeled your suitcases down the slightly dirty hallway, counting the numbered doors on the way. You finally find your door, number 347. You walk in and see a blonde-haired girl on the phone, you look around and see a spare bed near the window. You wheel your suitcases in and move them to the other bed. The unknown girl finishes on the phone before turning around and noticing you.
"Hi, sorry, my mum wouldn't stop talking. I'm Alessia Russo" Oh god, that accent will kill me, you thought.
"Oh sorry, I'm Y/N Catley" You say with your strong Australian accent.
"Wait, is your sister Steph Catley?" You nod and you both talk, get to know each other while unpacking and you have more in common than you thought.
Fast forward to later in the year, and Alessia went to have a shower, so you decided to FaceTime your sister Steph. You talk about your upcoming games and classes, same with Steph, until she asks you a question you never thought she'd ask.
"'When are you going to admit your feelings to Less?" Steph asked, readjusting herself on her couch.
"I don't know what you're talking about"
"So, it was Lotte who tripped over her own feet in the warmup and looks at her like she personally hung all the stars in the sky?" Steph asks with a slight smirk on her face.
"What's the point Stephy, she would never like, let alone love someone like me back" You say to your sister, trying not to cry. What you also don't realise is Alessia had come back to the room and heard everything. After hearing that confession, Alessia knew she needed to act on her feelings.
Later on, you and Alessia are chilling out watching some reality show when your phone rings. You look and it's an unknown number. You usually don't answer calls from unknown numbers, but something is telling you to. You answer and it's the head coach for the Matildas. After a few minutes of talking, the call ends and you sit there in shock. Alessia shakes you out of your daydream and you look at her with tears in your eyes.
"I'm guessing you got good news?"
"I got picked for camp in two weeks Less. Coach promised a debut for me too. He's been seeing some of my games and is really impressed" Alessia squeals and hugs you tightly.
"I'm so proud of you y/n/n" Alessia says as she pulls away. Her face millimetres from yours and your eyes flicker from her plump, pink lips to her ocean blue eyes and back down. You hear your phone ring from your lap but choose to ignore whoever it is as you are focussed on something a bit more important. You lean in and Alessia kisses you first, in which you respond only a few seconds later but more passionate. You both pull away and rest your foreheads together while catching your breath. You both can't stop smiling and lie back down, cuddling into each other. You look at your phone to see 'Missed Call: Stephy 👯‍♀️'
Stephy 👯‍♀️: hey bug! i just saw the squad announcement for next camp and i'm so proud of you! :) call me when you can, i love you and we're all so proud of you darling xoxo 😊
You keep staring at the text and you don't realise you're crying until Alessia tightens her arms around you. She reads the text and kisses you softly on the forehead. All you've ever wanted was to be on the same team as your sister, let alone the national team.
"I just miss them so much Less"
Alessia pulls the blanket up and switches the tv off before turning on the dim fairy lights that are hung around the room. She comforts you and reminds you that you can talk to her about it as she's going through the same thing. From that moment on, you've never been more grateful.
Two weeks later, you find yourself back in beautiful, sunny Australia for some friendlies against your Asian counterparts Japan and China PR.
347 💘: Good luck out there baby! You'll do great :) I found a website I can watch the game on (yay!)
347 💘: I love you xo
*attached photo of Alessia in your Matildas jersey*
The text and photo are the first thing at half time since you don't look at your phone before a match. You sister nudges your shoulder, since her cubby is next to yours, and she nods over to coach who's starting to speak.
It's the first game out of 4 and your coach is ready to sub you in, 75 minutes into the game.
"And here comes number 25 for the Matildas... debuting at 19 is Y/N Catley!" The crowd cheers and you get a high five from Gorry, who you're replacing.
You look towards at your sister in left back who's gives you a wink and a slight nod, and you know you'll be okay. You end up assisting Sam to equalise the game then scored a header off Steph's corner kick. You immediately run up to her and she gives you the tightest hug and a kiss on your forehead.
"Keep going bug! You're doing amazing"
A few more of your teammates congratulated you before the game restarts. It finished a few minutes later and you can't believe you've won the game for your team. After shaking hands with China and doing the team huddle, you walk over to the side with Steph to see your parents.
"I have a surprise for you bug" You see the blue-eyed girl you've fallen for stand up from behind your parents and your mouth goes wide. You jump over the barrier and give Alessia the tightest hug you could, with her doing exact the same.
"I'm so proud of you amore mio" You blush slightly as you both pull away and she kisses your temple.
You and Steph talk to your parents, brother and Alessia for a while before you both see Sam waving you over. You say goodbye and you told Alessia you'd meet up with her later.
2022
June 2022. Alessia is now in the Euros finals. You and her are still going strong, both now graduated and playing in the WSL. You told her you had some Matildas things to do in Sydney, therefore, you couldn't make it. Little does she know, you're watching her with your sister and her Arsenal teammates, who you've grown to love. Steph next to you, you look at her with worry in your eyes as the score is drawn at 1-1 and the game is about to go into extra time. Thankfully, due to Alessia's corner and Chloe's quick thinking, England score the winning goal. You were the first one out of your chair and one of the last to sit back down. England manage to hold the score down and the ref blew the whistle. Your girlfriend is the European Champion.
You and the others cheered for their friends but no one, except Steph, know you were cheering for your person. You watched as Alessia and Ella came closer to your section, so you decided now is the best time to surprise Alessia. You make your way down to the front and Alessia waves at all the fans, then your eyes meet. She smiles and wipes away stray tears that have fallen down her now red cheeks. Alessia climbs under and through the wire barrier to become face to face with you. You give her a tight hug and whisper how proud you are in her ear. You both pull away and Alessia looks down at your lips and you give her a slight nod and within seconds, she smashes her lips onto yours.
The fans around you cheer and take many photos and videos but the loudest cheer was from behind Alessia, Ella. Alessia gets pulled away and you tell her to go have fun and not to drink too much.
2023 August 2023. The summer, well winter in Australia's circumstance, everyone was waiting for. Australia had made it to the final and the team was allowed to spend time with family 2 days before the final, before going into focus mode. You and Steph decided to invite everyone to a family lunch before you and Alessia and Steph and Dean had some time separately. Since you're rooming with yourself, Alessia stays the night and you wouldn't have it any other way. Not seeing each other for most of the tournament sucked. You just wanted to support her, but you'd always be in another city or on a flight.
"I'm so proud of you amore. You've come so far in a short amount of time. I love you" You turn to Alessia and kiss her softly as a 'thank you' for the compliment.
"I'm proud of you too bubs. I'm so excited to play in Barcelona with you"
You both talk about moving in together, finally, and how Lucy and Keira offered to give you both a tour of Barcelona. In the middle of your conversation, your phone pings with a message from Tony, in a group chat,
Hi, congratulations! You've been selected in the starting lineup against the USA. Kind regards, Tony.
You sit up so quickly, Alessia thinks there's something wrong. You look at the rest of the people in the group chat and you have the usual Sam, Caitlin, Alanna but you notice your sister is there too. You feel a soft hand on your back and you look at Alessia with tears in your eyes.
"What happened baby?" She takes the phone from you and reads the message.
"I'm so incredibly proud of you. Don't you ever forget it"
20 August 2023. United States of America versus Australia. The day you've been waiting for your entire life. You read Alessia's last text over once more before tying the last know on your boot. You stand up and see the small box poking out of your kit bag. Do it for her, you replay in your mind. You feel a hand on your back and you turn to see Steph. You give her a tight hug as you wouldn't be here without her.
"Go rock it superstar"
And with that, the starting lineup walks towards the tunnel, ready to be the best in the world. You stand behind Sam and she turns to hold out her hand and you two do your handshake. You two have gotten close over the years due to Sam taking you under her wing. Both teams walk out and line up for their respective national anthems. You look up in the boxes and see Alessia with her family and yours all wearing your or Steph's number. You make eye contact with Alessia, and she give you a smile and a slight nod. You calm down instantly and start to sing your anthem. After the other formalities, game finally starts.
No goals in the first half but in the second half is where things change. A goal kick from Macca gives Hayley the ball so you weave in between Kelley and Becky to free yourself. Hayley passes you the ball and you sidestep both of them to have a 1v1 with Alyssa. You figured she would have studied where your shooting points are, so you decide in the moment to shoot elsewhere. You bring your foot back to shoot the ball to the top left of the goal, instead of the bottom right. Alyssa is completely caught off guard and you hear the swoosh of the net. You run over to where Alessia is and make an 'A' with your fingers before a love heart. Your teammates all jump on you, causing a dog pile of yellow jerseys. When you all stand up, Steph hugs you tightly before the game restarts. The final whistle blows, and you've done it.
You've won the World Cup. More importantly, you've won the World Cup on home soil.
After all the celebrations and shaking the USA players hands, it was time to lift the trophy. Sam comes up to you and says she wants you next to her when she lifts it. We all get on the stage and Sam is handed the trophy. We all bend down and jump up next when it's lifted. Afterwards, you get your medal and golden boot award, along with Alex Morgan for silver. You take your award and medal and move away from it all to sit in a pile confetti. While you take it all in, your families are invited on the pitch and after congratulating Steph, Alessia looks around for you. Alessia spots you taking in a moment of solitude, until you lock eyes. She makes her way over and sits beside you. Alessia congratulates you and repeatedly tells you she's proud of you. You turn your head towards Alessia, and you whisper 3 words you weren't going to say for a few weeks yet.
"Marry me Lessi?" Alessia sits up on her elbows and you follow.
"Y/N"
"I know that this isn't your dream proposal, but I couldn't wait until we went on vacation" You get on one knee and hold her hands in yours, not realising you have 70,000+ fans, the entire USA and Matildas plus your families watching.
"Hey bug, I think this would help" You look behind you and Steph give you a box. You smile and open the box towards Alessia.
"Will you Alessia Mia Teresa Russo do me the honour in becoming your wife? Will you marry me baby?"
"Of course, I will Y/N/N" You slide the ring on before leaning forward and kissing her passionately.
"I can't wait to be yours forever"
"Me too. Looks like today is full of surprises"

Golden Kamuy was insane.
The protagonist is a Russo-Japanese War vet who regularly performed near-suicidal attacks in battle and survived multiple near-fatal injuries, earning him the moniker "Immortal" which he regularly shouts out during fight scenes. His best friend is a 12 year old Ainu girl who hunts bears and has a pet wolf. The main bad guy is another war vet who's missing his forehead so he wears a ceramic plate over his exposed brain and despite being an irredeemably evil Bond Villain type antagonist, all his inferior officers simp for him to ridiculous levels. The minor adversaries include (but are not limited to) a giant undefeatable escaped prisoner with a pornstache and square-shaped lump on his forehead, a cannibalistic transgender woman who runs a death trap hotel, a serial killer who gets boners when thinking about someone else killing him, Japanese twink Ed Gein, a pervert with a stupid hairdo who dies while fucking a bear and a blind old man who dresses like an owl. Toshizou Hijikata, who was a real guy from real life who existed at one point, is a supporting character. The Ainu girl's father assassinated Tsar Aleksandr II. There's gratuitous cooking scenes between the action and death. The manga is at least partially responsible for kickstarting a Renaissance of Ainu culture in Japan. The author cannot stop talking about his characters' dicks in interviews.
This is one of the most popular manga and anime series of the past 10 years.

Random movie ideas:
1) A comedy-historical movie about the real life event during the Russo-Japanese War in which the inept Russian Baltic Fleet embarked on a disastrous voyage to Japan, only to get slaughtered completely. David Harbour (using his Russian accent from “Black Widow”) plays Admiral Zinovy Rozhestvensky, who spends the entire movie pissed off that his crew are basically the Three Stooges. (If you want to know more about this event, watch Bluejay’s “The Dumbest Russian Voyage Nobody Talks About” on YouTube)
2) A dramedy about two college dropouts (played by Taz Skylar and Joe Keery) who attempt to make it big as indie game developers. Troy Baker cameos as himself during a scene in which he’s asked to be part of a game that the developers are creating.
3) A mystery/crime movie centered on a NYPD detective (played by Oscar Isaac), a FBI agent (played by Pedro Pascal), and a private investigator (played by Amy Adams) in three different investigations. As the movie goes on, the three stories eventually connect when the protagonists realize that even though they’re investigating different crimes, they’re tracking down the same killer (played by Tom Holland).
4) Metallica biopic, starring Chris Hemsworth as James Hetfield, Giovanni Ribisi as Lars Ulrich, and Jake Cuenca as Kirk Hammett. (I don’t have a fancast for the other band members right now)
5) A thriller/semi-horror in which six individuals (played by Jon Bernthal, Samuel L. Jackson, Simu Liu, Florence Pugh, Stephanie Beatriz, and Jenna Ortega) all wake up in a barricaded room where the door is set to a timer. They receive a message that the door will open after 3 days and that all the group has to do is get along with each other. That seems easy on paper, but the thriller part comes in when the group realizes that they were specifically chosen because their captors knew they would tear each other apart.
As a hypothetical: Bernthal’s character is a racist xenophobe who brags about killing illegal immigrants and somehow getting away with it. Ortega’s character reveals that her father was killed by a “crazy white man”, which turns out to be Bernthal.
Another hypothetical: Jackson’s character says he’s going through an intense divorce since his wife admitted to having an affair. Liu’s character is the mystery man who was engaged in an affair with Jackson’s wife.
One last hypothetical: Pugh’s character is a Christian fascist while Beatriz’s character is an atheist anarchist.

You know, I find it to be truly fun to think about connections of various writers and wonder how those might play out in the story, however then I remember that Asagiri himself isn't particularly interested in doing this, aside from some exceptions. For better or for worse, which is a matter of preference, he truly creates an entirely new story with some references to the real people, despite using their names and alluding to their works. Usually I'm rather cool with that, "Let the man go wild, he's awesome! 🥰", however sometimes I can't help, but feel like it results in some missed opportunities for the story. If you name characters after real people, might as well play with the allusions to them a little more. Here are just some examples of the connections between the real writers, that I am aware of, yet they played no role in the BSD at all:
Akutagawa Ryunosuke was the student of Natsume Soseki and loved his teacher dearly - zero interactions between the two during the story
Q/Yumeno Kyusaku was quite a huge fan of Edogawa Ranpo and Edogawa later became the benefactor of the writer - zero interactions between the two during the story
Tayama Katai and Mori Ogai became acquaintances during the Russo-Japanese war and spent lots of time talking with one another while at it - zero interactions between the two during the story
Edogawa Ranpo was the first person to translate and introduce Lovecraft's writings in Japan - zero interactions between the two during the story
Akutagawa Ryunosuke loved Poe's works and translated them into Japanese - zero interactions between the two during the story
Nathaniel Hawthorne and Herman Melville were great friends and Melville adored Hawthorne so much, that it influenced the creation of "Moby-Dick" a lot and from what I have seen many people say he was actually in love (maybe the writer was indeed in love with him, but I am afraid, I'm not qualified enough to talk about this. Feel more than free to add info to the post) - zero interactions between the two during the story
H. P. Lovecraft was quite a fan of Edgar Allan Poe and his works were heavily influenced by him - zero interactions between the two during the story
Nikolai Gogol and Alexander Pushkin were great friends and influenced each other a lot - zero interactions between the two during the story
Fyodor Dostoevsky was one hell of a fanboy of Alexander Pushkin and even had the honor to give an official speech at the anniversary of the latter's death - zero interactions between the two during the story
And etc.
I mean, don't you guys think it would have been interesting to see Mori and Katai interact, given Katai's heavy dislike for the mafia? Hell, Mori might have even been made the main reason behind Katai's strong emotions! And then there's the situation with Akutagawa and Natsume. I find it to be truly surprising that Mori and Fukuzawa were made Natsume's students in the BSD, yet the person who was actually Natsume's student in real life hasn't even talked to him so far. Nathaniel and Melville are actually part of the same organization, yet there's nothing about it, though to be fair, the Guild members suffer from the lack of screentime in general. But just imagine if there was a tragic love story between the two instead of the one we got with Margaret arffufgbh. However, like I said in the beginning, it's a matter of preference. The story still works on its own and Asagiri still gives us from time to time such interesting references so in general I am very content and happy X3 I'm just saying here my thoughts on how fun it would have been, if he had gone even further

Ok so a couple thoughts on the USA and just other big teams that got knocked out.
Definitely not what we expected from the US but why did we expect that? Think about it, this a young team where most of the starters and subs were all at there first World Cup. I think this needed to happen to the US. they needed to not be the best anymore and for the next couple years just completely start over. The old generation is starting to leave so it's time to get a clean slate with these new young players. Basically, restart the program. Morgan, Rapinoe, Ertz, and O'hara are among those who are probably done. There were some amazing younger players that shined this tournament (Naomi Girma, Emily Fox, even Sophia Smith though not as well as expected). Its good for the US to just restart with a new team and a new coach *cough cough fire Vlatko. This team needs to spend more time on the field together. Remember Japan won in 2011 and the US came back with 2 world cup wins in a row, so I'm guessing in 4 years when these players are a little more experienced and have played with each other more they will be a really good team.
Now, my point that they need a fresh start with young players and a new manager is exactly what some teams have already done or need to do as well. Take England. They brought in Sarina a new manager and she just completely did the team over. Leah williamson as the new captain, Beth Mead on the squad, younger players like Russo, Toone and LJ getting minutes and shining. And then they won the Euros. See I think the US certainly have the talent they just need to build off of it.
Ok so Canada. I think same thing. Sinclair and Schmidt and Chapman are all probably on the way out. Now we got younger players, Huitema, Olivia Smith, Riviere, Grosso. I like Bev priestmann a lot, but I think if we want to see a new Canada team that utilizes the young and up and coming players we might need a new coach. Definitely a disappointment of a world cup from canada.
Germany and Brazil are pretty much the same. Brazil is losing one of the best players of all time, someone who has been the centre of that team for like 2 decades. They have such amazing players, Geyse being the young player that comes to my mind. Piano Sundhage I'm thinking is gone. and now it's just about again, getting the younger players time to shine alongside each other. And Germany. Oh Germany. Again, they have such amazing young players, Obi (who is arguably the best young player in the world rn), Brand, and Sydney Lohmann. I don't want to say Popp will retire because let's be honest that woman could play forever. But, the old generation is on it's way out and the new generation has to be shown the same kind of love. When you have such amazing young talent you have to take the future seriously and not just try to hold onto the past. I think that goes for all the team aforementioned.
Anyways that's it from me. Hope you enjoyed my Ted talk

When FMA 2003 was airing this was a question as many including within Japan saw parallels with the Iraq War and Aikawa's actual influence the Russo-Japanese war. Much of this discussion and introspection has been lost once FMA:B/the manga took over as it's focus shifted the systemic issues onto Father so it became a non-existent thought to the point that the tribunals Mustang wanted weren't talked about again nor done. 1/2
Arakawa has Ainu blood but grew up with no cultural ties to them so IMO her handling of Ishval came from being of the Yamato majority, aware of its imperialism but not knowing what reconciliation/restorative justice looks like from the side of the oppressed thus Ishvalans having no say in what Roy/Marcoh do. As a Black American thats a common pitfall of allies where (subconsciously) absolving their complicity feels like the goal vs being oppressed people's megaphone 2/2
FMA 03 has come up a few times in discussion around this post and I do think I'd appreciate its handling of Ishval and the military; unfortunately some of the other stuff I've heard about it is enough of a turnoff that I can't bring myself to invest time into watching it. Re: the tribunals, one could argue that Roy is waiting until he becomes the country's leader so he can force them to happen, but the longer he waits the more it seems like stalling. While I get the desire to not end your children's adventure manga with war crime trials, it is a glaring absence after hearing so much about his and Riza's motivation.
Regarding Arakawa's Ainu heritage, I've wondered if Hohenheim is an attempt to grapple with that. You're from a group of people whose deaths aided the creation of the nation you now live in. You've been cut off from your culture but also benefit in this new society directly from their suffering. He shares blood with the victims and perpetrators of Xerxes' destruction. Of course there's the additional layer of him having been enslaved and accidentally being complicit in Xerxes' undoing, both of which complicate that parallel.
Finally, I'm a white American, so while I find these 'are we the baddies?' stories interesting as something I have to grapple with as a privileged settler, I 100% get that they can come across very differently to people with different positionalities. I enjoy FMA/FMAB (mangahood I've seen it called?). I also think it has flaws and elements I wish it would have delved deeper into, and I can see why it could be offputting or frustrating to others.

A couple of weeks ago a friend finally convinced me to give Golden Kamuy a shot. Now, I had been curious about the show for a while, given that I knew one of the main characters was Ainu. But the fact that it was shonen (or rather seinen) kinda stopped me, because I do not have the highest opinion of Shonen/Seinen stuff.
But... I got hooked rather quickly on this show. Because... It is actually pretty cool.
To break it down very simply: The series is kinda about getting back Ainu gold to the Ainu, to allow them to retain some sort of independence in a changing Japan of the early 20th century.
Or, to put it differently: The series is about two things. About indigenous rights and veteran support. Because out of all the characters they are either indigenous - or they are veterans. The main character, Sugimoto, is a veteran. The other main character, Asirpa, is an Ainu girl of a mixed indigenous background.
One of the central issues underlying most of the characters are veterans of the Russo-Japanese war. And most of them are traumatized and do not receive enough benefits to actually make it. Which not only spurs a lot of them to look for that gold - but also to associate with some shady people.
It is kinda hard to talk about antagonists in the series, because the sides switch a lot. But the closest thing to a main antagonist is a veteran himself - who has manipulated other veterans (specifically marginalized veterans) to serve his own goals.
I have seen a lot of talk about this series in terms of the characters being "psychos" or "crazy". But really, for the most part that is not it. For the most part everyone is just traumatized af and due to this not acting... well, quite rationally.
The series even talks about this. How they have not "really" returned from the war.
Now, don't get me wrong. The series is often very silly. In a way that at times very much crushes with the themes. Like, there is a ton of fecal humor going on there. Like, A TON OF IT.
And also a weird amount of Ainu cooking. At times it feels like watching a cooking show. But then again: I am all here for cooking. And I am all here for the stuff about Indigenous knowledge.
So, yeah. Just give it a shot. It is a pretty awesome show.

The Assassin - Pt 2
Previous
For the rest of the day, he couldn't get Keiko Luciano out of his mind. He ended up going for a run to distract himself. He just returned to his loft when he gets a call from an Unknown number, "Russo."
Tumblr media
"It's Keiko." Speak of the Devil. "You sound out of breath. Were you in the middle of getting to know your hand better?" Billy can hear a smile in her voice.
"I just got back from a run. I'm about to take a shower."
"Perfect, let's video chat!"
"Maybe another time," she makes him smile. "How'd you get my number?"
"Bill Russo. You paid with a company card at my club. Your people at ANVIL forwarded my call. It's not rocket science."
"Why are you calling? To change plans? Or are you canceling?" Bill's voice turn low and velvety, "Darlin' you know my heart can't handle that." There's silence from Keiko's end. Quietly, "Wait…are you canceling?"
"I need to change the location & time. Saka Mai at 7? Lower East side, on Ludlow."
"I thought you didn't want to do dinner? Something about it being too much of a committment." Bill laughs, "Our relationship seems to be progressing fast. Should I propose? Should I get a ring?"
She practically purrs, "You're free to gift me diamonds. I won't stop you." She clears her throat, "Look, are you available tomorrow night or not?"
"I'd meet you at 5 in the morning if you asked me to."
Sighs, "Men are always willing to jump through hoops for sex. If you think i'm going to spread my legs because you're paying for a plate of food, then you're mistaken."
"Who said I was paying?" He hears her laugh. "Look, Keiko, I'm not trying to have sex with you. Its just dinner. I promise."
"Fine. See you at seven. And Bill…"
"I know. I won't be late."
*****
Bill gets to the restaurant 5 minutes to 7p. It's a nice place. It's the first time he's been here. Looking around there are a lot of men in black suits, tattoos...missing fingertips. He did a background check on Keiko. She's the child of two very prominent crime families. Her grandfather was a 2nd Lieutenant "shateigashira" with Inagawa-Kai. The first Yakuza family to move their business outside of Japan. Her father is a Capo with the Genovese, the largest Family in the Italian Mafia. Now, she brought him into a sushi bar filled with gangsters.
He sees her talking to a man across the room, her hand resting on his arm. She's in a deep maroon dress and matching heels. Her dark hair pulled up into a tight bun, showcasing her elegant neck that Bill's already thinking about kissing.
He makes his way towards her, "You're on time. This is my friend, Tanner, he owns the restaurant."
"Nice to meet you, Mr. Russo," escorting them to their table. Catching the attention of a waiter, "You look like a whiskey man. Timothy, bring this table a bottle of Yamazaki 18. Compliments of the house. A friend of Keiko's is a friend of mine. Now if you excuse me. I'm going to greet some acquaintances of mine. I hope you two enjoy dinner."
Bill hold her seat out for her, "You look beautiful tonight."
"Thank you, I'm happy to please," smiling up at him.
"That makes the 2 of us," winking. "See, we already have one thing in common. You seem to have a lot of connections."
"It's all about connections. You should know…being a business man and all." Tanner walks by with his aquaintences who nod at Keiko, which she in turn, gives them a sweet smile.
"Who are those 2 men?" Bill eyeing them up.
"Why? Jealous?" She arches an eyebrow at him and picks up her menu.
"Maybe," cringing at the surliness he hears in his voice.
Putting her menu down & leaning forward, "They are Hector & Marco Ramirez. They're brothers. They belong to the Yamauchi-gumi. Yakuza loves this place."
Three heavy-set men walk into the restaurant & sit at the bar. Your senses go on alert &. Billy's too damn observant, "Don't tell me you know them too."
"No," focusing on Billy.
"What exactly is it that you do for a living? I know you own the 11:11 Club. I have a feeling you're involved in other endeavors."
The waiter came back with the Whiskey. "Thank you, Timothy." A look passes between Keiko and the waiter, or is Bill just reading into things because he's actually kind of jealous. She proceeds to pour a tumbler for Billy. "Have you tried Japanese Whiskey? It's very good...so I'm told," placing the glass in front of him. "Do you think I'm a Yakuza princess? I'm a business woman."
"What kind of business?" taking a sip of whiskey.
"I own 11:11, a cafe & a funeral home."
Chokes on his whiskey, "A funeral home. Interesting choice."
Keiko smiles, "Are you ok??" Sighs, "Everyone dies. Why not profit from it? Besides, there's something fascinating about death. We spend our life rotting away until one day our bodies cease to function. Unless the person is murdered."
"That's an interesting take on things. You talk about murder like its nothing." Billy's interest is definitely piqued even more so now.
"We kill animals all the time. If people slaughter one another at the same rate we slaughter animals, we'd be extinct in 17 days. Human's are natural killers. Why is taking a human life different from taking an animals."
"You cant be serious."
Tilts her head to look at him, "Would you walk out the door if I was?"
"No, I'd stay."
"Why?" She tilts her head the way a panther would right before they ripped out your throat.
"Because I'm pretty damn hungry." Calls the waiter over to order.
"All right, let's eat," giving Billy a bright smile.
*****
Dinner is easy & enjoyable. Billy Russo is so much more entertaining than she thought he'd be which was a very bad thing. Her head needed to stay in the game. She's here to do a job and needed an alibi.
"Why did you choose this restaurant?" he asked, taking a bite of the wagyu steak.
"What do you mean?" Enjoying her vegetable tempura.
"Most entrees have beef, pork or chicken. I thought you were giving up meat. You said it was unsatisfying."
Brushing her leg against his, "I like to tempt myself."
Lust surfaces in his eyes, "Are we talking about food or something else?
"I'm here with you, aren't I? She traces the inseam of his pants with her foot, halting at his crotch. The sole of her shoe pressed firmly against him. She feels him harden immediately. Carnal desire surges through her. He's resisting the urge to rub himself against her foot.
His hand grasps her ankle and move it away from him. Gritting his teeth, "I'm 3 seconds away from bending you over this table." It looks like he's forcing himself to continue eating. "But I want more."
"More?" arching an eyebrow. "I had no idea you were so kinky. We have another thing in common. What's your favorite kink? Mine is when people watch." Tracing the line of her cleavage, "Do you like to watch, Billy?"
He inhales a sharp breath & tries to get himself under control. She's killing him here. He licks his lips, "I do have a kink," giving Keiko a slow sexy grin, that she can't help but mirror. "Let me get inside that pretty little head of yours."
Slouching back in her chair with a pout, "I'd rather you bend me over." Billy laughs.

Japan was a developing country in the early C 20. Rapidly expanding population, running out of food. Trying to industrialize. Needed markets to sell manufactured goods so she could pay for food and raw materials.
We (and the Europeans, too, but mostly us) slapped tariffs on Japanese goods because we didn't want the competition.
We prohibited Japanese emigration to California and Hawaii… not because the Japanese were troublesome or difficult immigrants; they weren't. It was racism, pure and simple. California anti-Asian racism in this period was as virulent as anything the Deep South ever produced. And if you look closely at it, btw, California whites hated and feared Japanese because they worked harder and so seemed more threatening (no, I'm not making this up… look at the literature of the period. Mexicans weren't considered a threat because they were "lazy".)
Having grabbed large chunks of the best Pacific real estate for ourselves (California/Oregon, Hawaii, Samoa, the Philippines…) we screamed blue murder when Japan sought to expand. Again, I'm talking about 1910-30 here… after the Russo-Japanese war, before Manchuria. We did everything we could to diddle Japan out of her gains from WWI, including going back on our sworn word (the Lansing-Ishii agreement) When we found that wasn't going to work, we built the world's biggest naval drydock in Pearl Harbor in 1919.
At Versailles we vetoed a racial equality clause that Japan wanted to have included in the charter of the League of Nations. We made it quite clear that this was because we didn't want to treat the Japanese as equals.
In '22, having botched the intervention against the Bolsheviks, we pulled out and left Japan holding the bag. Japan, poorest and weakest of the Allied powers, was told that she alone was supposed to carry on the fight against the Red Terror. When the Japanese refused to be the fall guys, and pulled out of Siberia, we blamed them for the failure. Don't take my word for it… read the contemperaneous commentary.
When Japan tried to expand peacefully in China -- economic expansion, not invasion or settlement -- we screamed blue murder, and sent gunboats in to help Chinese warlords "resist". Shockingly enough, these interventions tended to take place most often in areas where US companies had investments, and where Japanese competition (peaceful, economic competition) seemed most "threatening". We've conveniently forgotten about this period of our history, but the US repeatedly sent gonboats and small military units into China to "protect" US interests. Often what we were protecting them from was Japanese competition (N.B., for an excellent fictional treatment of this period, check out Richard McKenna's wonderful novel The Sand Pebbles).
The Japanese attack on the Panay in '37 was inexcusable but not inexplicable. Gunboats just like it had been pushing the Japanese around in China for a long, long time. We euphemistically called this "dollar diplomacy". Actually it was old-fashioned gunboat diplomacy… pushing around the natives, just like the British in Africa or the French in Indochina. Except that the Japanese were not inclined to be treated like natives forever.
I could go on -- there's lots more -- but I think you get the point. With no outlet for peaceful economic expansion, no chance of draining of surplus population through emigration, US and western "competitors" backed by guns and gunboats at every turn locking up the markets that Japan desperately needed to survive… is it any wonder that militarism and conquest started to look like attractive options? Keep in mind that at this point it was less than a century since we had conquered northern Mexico and just twenty years since we'd snitched the Philippines. French and British conquests in Asia were still fresh in living memory. So why (the Japanese asked themselves in the 1920s) was Japan not allowed to expand?
Look… I'm NOT apologizing for the excesses of Imperial Japan. They killed millions in China; they attacked without warning at Pearl. They were evil, and the world is well rid of that regime.
But, again, the Japanese didn't "choose" militarism in a vacuum. We gave them a good, hard shove in that direction.
Had we allowed some Japanese immigration… not fought them at every turn diplomatically… not zapped their exports again and again with tariffs… and agreed to let them expand peacefully through investment in China and East Asia… well, it's very questionable whether they would have gone for militarism. They could have supported themselves through trade instead of conquest… they did just that after 1950, and they're doing it right now today.
We would, by the by, have missed out on the Pacific half of WWII. Oh, and goodness knows what China would look like, but it certainly wouldn't be Communist.
Basically we would have gotten a 30 to 40 year head start on the Pacific Rim economy of the late 20th cen.
Well, it didn't happen. But let's just remember that we made some god-awful dumb mistakes, okay? Nobody seems to be aware of the long history of US stupidity in Asia… this chapter has just fallen out of the history books… but it did happen and there are lessons to be learned from it.
Long, deeply heavy sigh.
To quote George Takei, Oh My. 😔
Thank you for all of this.
Folks, this is extremely important. There are lessons to be learned, and we must be aware of the darkness in order to recognize it.

(Also, any time someone qualifies what they are saying with, “Look...I’m not apologizing for [insert atrocity/awful person]”, they are usually totally apologizing for it.)

- Parte I, Parte II ⚔️

⚠️ MAO NING URGES NATO SUMMIT TO REALLY FOCUS ON PEACE, INSTEAD OF PROMOTING ANTI-CHINESE ADVENTURISM ⚠️
From 11/07 to 12/07, the NATO summit will be held in Vilnius, a dangerous alliance of imperialist military aggression led by the US paper tigers 😡
⭐️ Comrade Mao Ning - Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the PRC - responded to a request for comment on the planned meeting between NATO members and the leaders of Japan, South Korea, Australia and New Zealand, all countries linked to the anti-Chinese adventurism in the Asia-Pacific Region 😡
🔺 AUKUS, "NATO Plus", and US preparation for the conflict with China ❗️
🔺 South China Sea, theatre of military confrontation between China and the USA? - Part I, Part II ⚔️
🤡 At the summit, the US and its lackeys will not only discuss the "fate" of Ukraine, but are also likely to extol the bogus and ridiculous "Chinese Threat Theory", promoting more warmongering and adventurism in the South China Sea, the East China sea and - more precisely - in the Taiwan Strait 😡
💬 "China's position on the South China Sea, East China Sea, and other issues is clear and consistent. China is committed to defending its sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as defending its legitimate interests and rights," said Mao Ning 🚩
🤧 Whether a War for Chinese Reunification can turn into a world war is not down to China, but to the actions of the US and NATO and their regional lackeys, from Japan to South Korea 👍
🔺 China Daily: "NATO is a relict of the Cold War and the Russo-Ukrainian conflict is NATO's fault" 🔥
🔺 Li Zhanshu: China and Russia will jointly fight NATO expansion ⚔️

Return of ex-NXT Fighter - WWE Wrestling
Return of ex-NXT Fighter - WWE Wrestling: During the WWE NXT Halloween Havoc 2022 event. So an interesting segment was shown of a masked wearer getting rid of his mask, throwing it into the flames. So Quickly, the fans compared the figure of the individual with T-Bar / Dominik Dijakovic. Remember to follow the rest of WWE news.
Return of ex-NXT Fighter - WWE Wrestling:
So speaking in the NXT Halloween Havoc post-show media call Shawn Michaels was asked about the promo and the possible return of Dominik Dijakovic out of character within the defunct Retribution. "It's not like we don't see what's going on in the world of social media and fist-wrapping at different things that were done with different characters over the years and we do what we can here creatively to support. I'd love to be able to take credit for that, but I've got a pretty good head writer here who puts up some pretty fancy stuff in Johnny Russo. There were rapid changes, we lost a lot of people over time. I'm not sure how they're going to end the story they're in. Whenever they are willing to let us have a chance to get them back, we look at it, not in a bad way, we find it to be a fun new toy. Being able to take guys with such talent. One of the things that we certainly try to do is not insult the fans and not pretend someone wasn't who they were a short time ago, just connect the dots and make you think and joke and make yourself feel like what's going to happen and then , later on, we surprise you, and you think it's cool and it works. Hetalia: Axis Powers Episode #13 Transcript
This episode has Britain summoning Russia with black magic.
Germany: Count off!
Italy: Just me!
Germany: It’s time to start our training. We’ll begin with the proper way to treat your subordinates.
Italy: Sieg heil!
(Sieg heil!: Hail victory! → German)
Italy: I mean, yes, sir!
Germany: Sehr gut.
(Sehr gut: Very good → German)
Germany: First, remember that other people are humans. You have to treat them with both kindness and respect.
Italy: With kindness. Right, Pookie?
Germany: But sometimes with discipline!
Italy: Discipline, got it. Naughty Pookie, naughty, naughty, naughty Pookie, Pookie, sweetie, naughty, naughty! Aah, that really hurts! Help me, Germany! He’s attacking me! Make it stop! Oh, it hurts so bad!
Germany: WHAT IS YOUR PROBLEM, ITALY?!
(Italy: Why are you doing this to me? What did I do to you?)
{Caption: A cat’s tongue feels rough!}
Italy: Remember the catnip I gave you? Why are you hurting me with your little tonguey?
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Italy: Hahahahahaha! That was great, Germany! Hahahahaha!
Britain: Damn them both! If I wasn’t bested by that (beep) German blitzkrieg again! Hehe. I let them beat me without much of a fight this time, but next time won’t be so easy. They don’t know it, but…I still have a top-secret weapon left. More powerful than conventional bombs, even. Gentlemen, it is time to attack with black magic!
Men: Ooooooooooooohhhhhhh!
Britain: Hehehehehe! Germany will learn the power of the dark side which fears no man---AUGH!
America: Britain! What’re you doin’?
Britain: I say, haven’t you ever heard of knocking?
British man: Where did you put the eye of newt?
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Britain: Hetalia!
{Caption: Hetalia}
Britain: Dammit! Since I was interrupted before, I’ll do it at my place this time. Our family’s magic is number one in the world. You’re no match for me, stupid America! Euhm…santa, rita, mita, meada. Ringo, Jonah, Tito, Marlon. Jack, La Toya, Janet, Michael, Dumbledora the Explorer. Santa, rita, mita, meada. Ringo, Jonah, Tito, Marlon. Jack, La Toya, Janet, Michael, Dumbledora the Explorer. I’ve summoned you from the depths of hell. SHOW YOURSELF!
Russia: You called?
Britain: Nnh…nnnh…I wasn’t calling you!
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Russia: Hetalia!
{Caption: Hetalia}
Britain: Why must you insist upon interrupting me all the time? Do you have some kind of grudge against me?
Russia: No. Ahhhhhhhhhh, wait a second. Yes, I do.
Britain: Well, my grudge is more important than your grudge! I won’t let you revengus interruptus. Now, the British curse of food! And bad tea!
Russia: Ha! Ahhhhhh!
Britain: No! Stop! I’m cursing!
Russia: Ahhhhhhh!
Japan: Nom!
Russia: Ahhhhhhhh!
Japan: Nnhn…my belly…
Russia: Ha! All right, ready to begin!
Britain: Hahaha! That’s some really spooky stuff there, chap!
{Caption: Russia’s Curse}
{Caption: During the Russo-Japanese War, Russia, together with the Orthodox Churches throughout the country, continuously cursed Japan. However, Russia was easily defeated. 18 years later, the Great Kanto earthquake struck Japan. Each time Russia cursed, Japan got put under that curse 18 years later. So in Russia, it was said that God was 18 light years away. By the way, they say that ads saying “I will execute your curse” even now openly appear in Russian newspapers...}
Britain: That’s freaky.

France: Hey, Russia.
Russia: Hm?
France: I thought you might be mad with the way the meeting turned out.
Russia: No, not at all. I’m just happy to watch all of you talk stuff over. It’s very nice that everyone let me feel like one of the gang. Besides, I hide dark secret no one will guess because of my sweet face!
France: Ahah. You were such a cute country when you were born and now you are all grown up.
Russia: An evil secret.
France: Ahuh?
Russia: When I look into all of your stupid faces, I think of how much fun it will be to pound them into dust.
France: I knew it! Mmhf!

Italy: 🎵Germany, Germany, Germany is a really, really nice place. Even though I’m your prisoner, you give me food, and it doesn’t suck like English food! Sausages with cheeses always taste so good! It’d be heaven for a dog; yeah, that’s Germany! Tell me, how is it you Germans are so robust? You’re crushing me with your intimidation. My fragility causes me to openly weep out of fear. Your women terrify me. Is it the norm to drink a barrel of beer and then bust it on somebody’s heaaad? Please don’t come to my place in large mobs; German tourists are scary! Even the girls that are from Germany are more rugged than I am! Yahoo!🎵
Chibitalia: By any chance do you serve pasta he---
Austria: No, we don’t.
