Jaune really showed in this volume 8 much of his improvement, his leadership, combat abilities and especially in the use use of his semblance for support, amplifying his friends aura and semblances.
But with the happenings of the final episode. I think it hints that Jaune will start to work to improve both supportive and offensive/defensive amplification of his Semblance.
Supportive: for being unable to protect Penny and so needing to finish her off. I think he need to work on channeling his aura to multiple people at the same time and probably at distance.
Tumblr media
In “Sparks”, Vine Zeki asked Jaune if he ever considered extending his Aura. Since Jaune couldn't do it himself yet, this would have led into the introduction of the Disc Grenades as a substitute.
Tumblr media
But this also hints on Jaune being able to crave his sword into the ground and release a aura circle that reaches his friends and allies and boost their aura without close proximity.
Offensive/defensive: By having Crocea Mors sword broken by Cinder. Showing that it’s more than about time to him to work on the amplification on himslef, of his own aura shield, and not only through his body but also his weapons.
And he actually showed this ability once, JUST ONCE IN VOLUME 1, he first accidentally used it in “Forever Fall, part 2”when Cardin Winchester attempts to punch Jaune in the face. There is a bright flash of light, and Jaune appears to have taken no damage, his Aura shield is intensified to the point of Cardin hurting his hand after punching him, Miles (Jaune's VA) called this "a super-strong Aura block to Cardin", having amplified it. If he starts working on that and using it more often and with control, he can be almost indestructible, and i'm talking about personal defense, imagine offense. Imagine if he learns to do aura arcs with his sword and then use his semblance to amplify it. Total getsuga tensho.
Tumblr media
comment on reddit: Jaune is a Paladin. He is a Tank, has Healing Hands, and Bless. Now he needs to learn to use them, and most importantly, learn to use Smite (maybe channeling his aura into his sword?)It just goes to show why he needed to be so nerfed by having 0 training, imagine if he was trained and competent and had unlocked his Semblance by Initiation? Sure, wouldn't be as good with DPS as others, but with him as a hybrid DPS/Healer/Tank, team JNPR would be broken.Imagine Jaune amping Pyrrha and her going Magneto on people. Him amping Nora and using Lightning Dust and she going "Bring me Thanos!" or amping Ren and cloaking them from Grimm detection. And then him amping Team RWBY, making Ruby zip around cutting people, Yang punching even harder, Blake uses Shadow Clone Jutsu and him and Weiss being one of the most broken Tank/DPS pairs in the show. You know what? That sounds like a good premise for a fic where things don't go to hell in handbasket like in canon.
maybe jaunes ability to  support will grow in that he can protect himself and his friends from semblances meant to indirectly attack/hinder/debuff them like the ability to control emotions, semblance negation, yatsuhashis semblance, emeralds hallucinations,  and pyrrhas semblance ( making it so she couldnt manipulate the metal on someones body that acts as a conduit for their aura.
or glyndas semblance

Jaune's 11th Hour: His Time cannot move forward | RWBY Volume 9
youtube comments
The clock gears and Jaune having an affinity with rabbits does give vibes of the White Rabbit. How time progresses in Ever After will be interesting if Jaune was the first to arrive. Will he age like the other inhabitants or be eternally youthful, yet his hair is able to grow still. Im just begging for a bearded Jaune at this point. "And now it's time for one last bow, like all your other selves. Eleven's hour is over now. The clock is striking twelve's." Clara Oswald The Time Of The Doctor13
What if similiar to Samurai Jacks case, Jaune time stopped for him, even he didn’t age.  He might have been in Everafter way longer even before Team Rwby, possibly to the time when even alyx started her journey through ever after.  Due to feeling guilt, remorseful and blaming himself for not only pyrah and Penny, time just stopped for him.  If Ruby and her team want to save him and get him to leave with them, they have to get him out of whatever stump he has been stuck in
I do love your thought process for this, especially the point of how him having been so convinced and confident means he had that much further to fall, which means he'd be that much more damned when he breaks.
Maybe the '2' signifies he is of two minds right now?
My biggest running theory right now is that because he is so broken, fractured so to speak, that his body and mind/soul have separated. His body is following a routine, the path he was already trying so desperately to prove he could - that of the savoir, the Knight. So his body is the Rusted Knight.
But his mind and soul, being torn and consumed over what he had to do no longer let's him feel like he's the hero, but now makes him feel like he's a Monster. Thus this gives shape to his soul becoming the Jabberwalker... who is searching for something... something it needs to fix.
I mean. . .
Not such a stretch when you think that particular heinous, intelligent Grimm was once a person too.
When Blake mention the events of "The Girl who Fell Through the World" she mentioned the 'Rusted Knight'. I'm certain that it's going to be Jaune, which means he was in the Ever After when Alyx came through, she met him and he helped her get out, most likely staying behind to wait for Team RWBY. He could have been here for decades, not aging, frozen in time, he got his wish, to become a warrior in one of the stories he was read as as child, but realising he's no hero.
I wonder if Jaune will heal the red prince with his semblance fixing up the scar. Since the white rabbit in Alice in wonderland served the queen of hearts! Ruby controls the weather Neo controls reality Jaune controls time
He cant move forward because of fixation with midnight, cinder is his midnight, he cant process his need for vengeance and grow because she isnt there.
Jaune was the last to fall, after ruby, after Blake and finally after Weiss. It's possible that Jaune will either fall and land somewhere near neo or he lands directly at the tree and has to confront himself much like ruby will eventually. It's also possible that jaunes time is running out and there is no 11th hour to save him.
I’m hoping that Jaune will return to Remnant with the rest of Team RWBY (Jaune deserves to survive the story as much as the titular team)
Yea he’s definitely going to represent the White Rabbit, so excited to see how! I’m also very curious how he will meet the large hare we see him riding!
Wow I love the new poster framed of team SRPH!! Would love a detailed up close vid on that ❤😊
I'm currently taking a course on medieval knights and pilgrims and something that comes to mind for me is "stopping one's motion" - a major part of medieval culture was going from actuality (your current being) to potentiality (your ideal self). This involved going out into the unknown, looking for signs of the divine, and facing trials that would allow you to grow as a person, like Yvain reaching his potentiality by questing to regain his honor after breaking an important promise to his lady.
A decently common thread in stories at that time is stopping one's motion and their movement from actuality to potentiality, essentially casting aside their role as a knight to fulfill their personal desires, like how Sir Lanval leaves the Court of King Arthur to live in Avalon with the fairy queen or how Guigemar and his lady stay on a magic boat within stopped time for around a year (I think, it's been a while since I've read Guigemar) before leaving to continue their motion towards potentiality.
While probably not exactly the same, Jaune's knight theme and connection to Joan of Arc, a person from medieval times, means that this might play a part in it. I think Jaune might stop his own motion and give up his role as a knight - to learn, grow, and ultimately become someone who can protect - in favor of something like short-term gratification, where he takes on the role of the Nameless Knight, giving up personal glory for the chance to feel like he's actually saving someone on a personal level.
(Also kind of interesting how Jaune might be the Nameless Knight and is connected to medieval knights when Sir Lancelot began his story not even knowing his own name, so that might be another link to knight culture)

if this is true it would be fitting reference to what happened with jin kisaragi /hakumen fallinto into the cauldron and then going back many years into the past and getting put into a suit of armor . and having stories made of him etc
of course in blazblue there was also the topic of parallel universes where the timeline we play in has noel exist while in hakumens timeline noel didnt exist and tsubaki ended up being his secretary
and hakumen of course ends up surviving for all that time and ends up coming to the verse with noel  starting from the first blazblue game

It's pretty interesting that the Blacksmith has records of Hunters from Remnant despite being in the Ever After, so I think they might be Alyx reincarnated.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Both Alyx and the Blacksmith are designed with Afro-centric features in mind (for me the hair locs in the Blacksmith were the main giveaway).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Alyx's waistband looks similar to the colours of the locs.
And we can't forget the quote from the latest episode, "Alyx wanted to fix everything she broke in the Ever After." And guess what blacksmiths do.

Okay, so it seems like Ruby was sent to the Tree at the end of this episode.
And we still haven’t gotten our second meeting with the Mysterious Blacksmith where we get her ‘What if you could leave Ruby Rose behind...?’ line from the trailer.
Tumblr media
Yeah, I’m calling it now that the Blacksmith and her forge have been inside the tree this whole time.
And of course, she’s who Ruby is going to be meeting next episode XD

Team RWBY returning to Beacon near the climax of the series. Them walking among the ruins of their old school, lamenting over how it feels so long ago, while reflecting on how much they've grown since.
Give me the nostalgic pain RT.

Blake: *going through team RWBY inventory* I think we need to restock on dust or we’ll run out in the middle of the mission.
Weiss: But my father cut me off and there aren’t any dust stores around here!
Emerald: I think I know a guy…
Emerald: …if you don’t ask too many questions…!
Ruby: Who is he?
Weiss: How do you know him?
Blake: Where did he get the dust?
Yang: How many questions is too many?
Emerald: …
Emerald: …maybe we should find someone else to ask.
Yang: It’s four. The limit is four questions.

*Jaune walks up to the door of his apartment looking all disheveled*
Yang, opens her door and sees Jaune in his current state: Good morning, slut!
Jaune: …What?
Yang: Oh please, I recognize the walk of shame when I see it. All you're missing is a little smeared mascara and a purse with panties wadded up in it.
Nora, opens the door: What's going on?
Jaune, quickly walks past Nora: Nothing's going on, excuse me.
Nora: Are you just getting home?
Jaune: Yeah.
Nora, turns to Yang: That's a good sign, right?
Yang, smirking: Oh yeah!
Nora, turns back to Jaune with the biggest grin on his face: I'm so proud of you! You sold yourself like a common streetwalker!
Jaune: I didn't do it for the grade!
Nora: Professor Goodwitch stiffed you?!
Yang: I believe that's what he did to her.
Jaune: No, she bumped our grades up first.
Nora: Smart, get it bumped up front! you know, I think you have a real knack for gigolo work, Jaune!
Jaune: … I’m gonna go lie down.
*Jaune walks off to his room*
Nora, calling out after him: Good idea, Get your rest! There’s a lot more rich older women out there! And momma needs a new maple syrup dispenser!
Nora, turning to Yang with a smirk: And I thought he didn’t learn anything from his relationship with you.
Yang, indignant: Hey!

Weiss: *puts on a pair of glasses*
Ruby: Ohhh my God, you look so smart and hot.
Weiss: I know right? Watch this. *tilts her head forward and slides her glasses to the bridge of her nose*
Ruby: *shivers*
Weiss: Molecules.
Ruby: Okay, come with me. *grabs Weiss' hand and starts dragging her*
Weiss: Where to?
Ruby: My bedroom. So I can take everything off except those glasses. And maybe the boots.

jaune will end up successfully protecting a maiden from cinder/a villain
you know the parallels between atlas and beacon arc jaune was supposed to keep watch when pyrrha was getting the maiden powers  with ozpin making sure the aura transfer takes place and jaune was unable to keep cinder from getting the fall maiden powers or keep pyrrha alive in v8  jaune is able to keep cinder from getting the maiden powers  but is unable to keep penny alive  and is the one to make sure the aura transfer happens in ozpins place at the cost of a life jaune resented ozpins role but was put in his place at the end of v8. I think that
we will get a third  situation where jaune is able to keep cinder/the villain from getting the maiden powers and keep  the maiden alive

So, we can all agree that when Oscar eventually gets his semblance, it's going to have something to do with Ruby, right? And I'm not even saying this from a shippy lens. Kid has an immortal wizard move into his brain at 14 that he can't kick out, immediately becomes a child soldier, lives through a train crash, countless grimm fights, crash lands a plane, gets shot in the chest, falls for - quite possibly - a few kilometres after blowing up a hole in the bottom of a military compound, gets beaten up and abducted by a goopy grimm super monster, magic blasted by his headmate's ex-wife, tortured and beaten up by a man six times his size, fights off Salem again to save his friends, and not ONE of those instances has been stressful enough to awaken it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
But both times he's talked about his semblance manifesting, it's been with Ruby. The first is in v5 after they spar and Ruby cheers him (and Jaune) on about getting there one day, while Ren makes a comment saying:
"One common philosophy is that a warrior's semblance is a part of who they are".
The second time is in v7 when Ruby does something new with her own semblance and Oscar asks if she's always been able to do that. Eventually leading to him lamenting again about how he's not unlocked his yet while everyone else's are evolving. And it's Ruby that responds with:
"Well, I'm sure we'll all be jealous when you do (figure it out)".
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And then, from both Ruby and Oscar's perspectives, we are shown their attachment to each other. Ruby throughout V9 with Neo's illusions, and Oscar with - many instances - but especially in the recently released epilogue where he speaks at her grave. And in this speech we're reminded of that attachment as well as his struggles with identity. Specifically how those two things are intrinsically linked together:
"You always believed in the best. Saw people for who they really were. Some of us... don't know anymore. "
Oscar can't grasp his own personal super power that's "a part of himself" when he doesn't know who he is. He's losing himself to the merge, the boundaries of where he ends and Oz begins are blurring by the day, and he's only 15 and still growing into the person he could become. And the one person that was always certain of who he was, always made him feel like he was his own person... isn't around anymore. So he feels even more detached from his identity and the parts that comprise it than ever before.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
But she returns in Vacuo before their final fight, and his semblance has been teased too many times to never appear. So my current guesses are either:
he's going to unlock it under stress to save Ruby from certain danger, because he "lost her once and won't risk it a second time"; or
he's going to unlock it in a different, maybe even quieter moment, where - once again, thanks to Ruby's certainty - he starts feeling like himself again.
Only one way to find out.

Neo's New Abilities in the Ever After (It's NOT a Semblance Evolution) | RWBY Volume 9 Discussion youtube comment
This kind of reinforces your theory that what Neo really needs is essentially to let go. I have a feeling that will involve realizing just how much she was used. (Disclaimer: I'm not suggesting that Roman was one of the people who used her. I still think he's actually the one who didn't.) When I first saw the scene I wondered if because her semblance is focused around illusions and they're in a world of make believe, then maybe when she uses her semblance in that world it makes them real. If she's able to conjure up fake people in a fantasy world then maybe the world itself interprets it as a real person

Jaune may have been sleep deprived
After rewatching The Perils of Paper Houses, I realized something, I don't think Jaune haven't been sleeping.
The first was what he said after running out the hut to Juniper.
Jaune: I overslept… I never oversleep
The second was him explaining team RWBY what he been doing while waiting for them.
Jaune: between protecting the village, searching for you guys, searching for an exit.
Witch leaves the question, when did he have time to do all that, especially after saying he can't leave the pleasers to die?
The answer is on the last item on jaune's list Get Paper Pleasers to bed, meaning he waits for them to sleep before exploring the other acres.
Witch explains why in Confessions Within Cumulonimbus Clouds, he was in a hurry to get back to the village before they wake up and as the end of chapter 3 shows that each acres has a different time zone.
Tumblr media
So while doing all that when does Jaune have time sleep he doesn't, he been keeping himself awake wich also explained why he ask team RWBY if they were real, people who are sleep deprived tend to hallucinate, so the reason he overslept because It was probably the first night he slept in a long time.
What do you guys think.

Ok but Neo is definitely returning at some point, and on the side of the heroes. The portal takes you to when you’re needed most so, most likely, a time will come where they need Neo’s semblance, or backup in a fight, and she’ll appear.
Because part of what she’ll learn in the Tree is what Alyx did in her story - that she needs to try and fix what she’s broken. And that means helping the people she went out of her way to hurt.

Okay, CRAZY thought:
Everyone in the story is ASSUMING that Alyx wrote the story of The Girl Who Fell Through the World, because she was the only character from that story who they KNEW was from Remnant.
But what if Alyx DIDN’T actually write the story?
Because Alyx actually ended up being left in the Ever After while LEWIS was the one who made it back to Remnant. And HE wrote the story.
After all, his name is LEWIS.
As in, Lewis Carroll
