I was going over to reddit and saw some dude over at the gamergate sub that said that if Monica Rial was ever in a thing, they'd switch over to JP cause screw her and I think to myself if that's not how many SJWs think as well? Just on the opposite side. Not much upvotes to that one but oh well.

After looking through the entire KickVic debacle my conclusion is that...I care less about it than other things.

Hey, it's sad that a man's legacy got torn down and sad that shit is still brewing but with that said, why should I be concerned here? I live halfway across the world, the only dubs from Funimation I like is Fairy Tail which has Monica Rial AND Vic Mignogna although Rial has the more major role, Mignogna just has the villain for that one arc role but still!

And that dub was finished way before the shitstorm even started. I'm just kinda figuring things out myself.

Monica Rial is a piece of shit person? So what?

Marzgurl ruined Vic's life? I enjoy reading the long post she made ngl but again so what?

I'm passionate about Fairy Tail but the VAs were never really my go. Todd, Vic, Monica, Colleen and Cherami are the only VAs I really did a deep delve on and most of them I know from Fairy Tail and I intend to enjoy Fairy Tail the dub via pirating because I cannot afford a subscription. I read the manga though and am just at the Everlue arc in the anime. So yeah, there's that.

I guess I just really felt like that one dude from KiA. I felt like when someone points out that the Fairy Tail dub has Monica Rial as a major character in the show, they'd ask my opinion on this whole saga but now I know that it was all in my head.

Damn.

Is Danganronpa 2 sexist

A response to @serahne

A few years ago serahne made a post on why the girls in sdr2 are written in a sexist manner and I’m here to go over

Now first off this was made years ago so it’s debatable if she still holds these opinions however that doesn’t exempt this from proper criticism

And another thing while I do disagree with her points about this that doesn’t mean she doesn’t make good points and the points I do agree with will not be present in this response

Let’s begin

This is ignoring a few things regarding the characters Akane for instance did take action on her own accord during the series

For instance she tries to fight monokuma after the second trial

Or strangling nagito during the fifth chapter

This also ignores chiaki’s goal to stop the killing along with hajime granted it’s a pretty simple one but it’s still a motive regardless

It also ignores the contributions characters like Sonia have in the narrative such as her knowledge of military weapons coming into play when she’s the first one to realize nagito’s bomb plot was a bluff

Another thing she doesn’t bring up is that while Mikan did kill for love the person she killed for was female shouldn’t this go against the sexist narrative if the person in question is female

Again I’m not saying their writing is perfect it isn’t but you shouldn’t gloss over things like this when making your point or criticizing something because it weakens the point and makes you look like a fool who doesn’t know what they’re talking about

Now I’m pretty neutral about whether hiyoko should’ve died or not because while I do have issues with her dying these mostly stem from execution which I’m not going to get into because it has nothing to do with the main point here but blaming it on sexism feels unwarranted and presumptuous here

Another thing here is that she makes a few mistakes

First off nagito doesn’t actually develop in the context of the game the fact that he still goes with the murder plot should be proof enough that he hasn’t changed within the context of the game while characters like kazuichi did develop as he went from not trusting anyone to finally trusting in other its not the strongest arc in the series but it’s still an arc regardless

Another thing is that when writing this serahne at the time really disliked nanami claiming her writing was sexist for pretty bad reasons that ignored details I made a response on my blog you can check it out if you want

But again she’s ignoring nanami actually giving herself up and resisting her programming so the others can survive

Akane became less rash and more patient

Sonia became more determined to push forward and stop the game

So (say it with me)

Don’t ignore things like this it’s going to ruin you’re credibility

If I had to describe this it’s a massive generalization of all female characters in the game and it’s really does more against her point

So apparently because most of the girls in the series are good people that automatically makes them waifu bait only made to please the men

First off “All the characters were created to be potential waifu”

Danganronpa is part dating sim of course they’re all going to be potential waifu’s even the ones you praised before

Secondly “they are all nice polite caring are all following the fetishized innocence”

Okay first off how is writing a character to be nice and polite and caring automatically fetishizing innocence (screw you gamergate)

Secondly not of the characters are these sexually submissive dolls you’re making them out to be when most of them have a few quirks that would turn other away

Akane is about as conventionally feminine as mondo meaning she doesn’t act like waifu bait especially not with that gluttonous behavior of hers

Sonia loves serial killers and dark magic

Ibuki is constantly portrayed as very eccentric to the point where is got her kicked from her former band

Mikan is very unstable and possessive to violent degrees

Mahiru can be very demanding and abrasive sometimes

And Chiaki the gamer girl you constantly call waifu bait enjoys games like this

So yeah real waifu bait there

And you end with a circular argument that bases itself on a faulty premise

Oh boy this is rich

Miu and Angie both have the most sexualized designs in any mainline Danganronpa game

Not to mention miu becomes totally submissive when someone pushes back at her

Plus celes is wearing a gothic Lolita outfit

And you had to cite mostly antagonistic characters to make your point which is pretty indicative

And Sakura doesn’t actually argue or try to fight the male player and she’s one of the more polite and kind hearted members of the first class so by your own logic she should be considered waifu bait regardless of how her character is meant to break down gender stereotypes

Conclusion

Yeah this is not a good meta

It ignores details and makes dumb reasons for why a character is waifu bait that don’t make any sense

Now I’m not going to go after the part about fanservice because I actually agree with that one however this for the most part is very poorly construed ignores details makes dumb reasons for why this is waifu bait and is pretty terrible

Found in a vanity search, a 2020 post;

Apparently I’m a “reactionary centrist” now because I say “actions are more important than words”.

It’s ironic that EE2 is saying this, when he’s consistently wrong about the beliefs of people he’s talking to or about. Including Gamergate.

EG: He claims "the manosphere” [IE MRAs] is a”corner stone for reactionary far right internet thought“. When MRAs lean left, and regularly criticize traditionalism and governments for screwing over men. They also discuss the issues of minority men all the time.

He doesn’t “intellectually engage” with the opposition, he’s an NPC who slaps labels on them and blindly believes blatantly partisan left-wing propaganda and often fails to read or “intellectually engage” with his own evidence.

PS, last time I checked, the main anti-GG narrative claimed GG was harassing "women in gaming", up to and including being physical threats. The alleged misogyny was the reason, but not the prime cause for concern.

EE2 ignores that, because like many ideologues, he doesn't have the cognitive capability to keeping Crimethinkers in separate categories. It's much easier to lump them together, no matter how little sense that makes.

hello, hello tell me what you want right now

I don’t know if I actually want to be on BTSARMY tumblr, I haven’t spent enough time on here to see what it’s like these days. 

The last time was when I started to get into the BTS rabbit hole five years ago. There’s the translation accounts (we are all screwed if BTS-trans/Bangtan subs goes dark), the one tumblr who was a one-stop everything with the links and reuploaded gifs. A lot of Reader/BTS drabbles and fics. Fan thoughts, analysis.

I’m more used to Twitter. I’ve always liked Twitter - where else could you have access to people all around the world freely sharing their expertise or shitpost thoughts and you could join in if you wanted to. While my friends were on Facebook, I was mainlining all the tweets. I got news and memes faster, why would I go anywhere else?

And hashtags! I came to Tumblr near the tail end of Livejournal. On LJ, you tagged your posts based on content and feelings but on Tumblr hashtags felt  more as commentary than organization. There was also a greater emphasis on media than text. The lack of threaded comments seemed to encourage more reblogs, more sharing than commentary. Twitter hashtags felt way more relevant to the subject being discussed.

I also have more jumbly thoughts about how growing up as the internet developed (USENET! IRC! All the blogs and blogrings and RSS readers! forums! diaryland! xanga! friendster! livejournal!) made me eager for the next shiny thing. How could the internet develop? How could we communicate together? Sometimes you lose people, sometimes you find them again.

And then it all consolidated between Facebook, Twitter, and Tumblr (and the chans but let’s not go there). I didn’t mind my real life friends on Facebook although yeah, you learn a lot more than you wanted to. But the user interface and privacy concerns were both terrible. I had a hard time wrapping my brain around Tumblr and communicating mostly through sharing but not quite talking?

Or maybe I was lazy and I just wanted to drink all the thoughts and pictures in at the same time and Twtitter was best for it. Also due to the graphic-heavy stuff, the mobile app always seemed slow. Even now trying to find a gif to add to this post took a loooooooong time to load.

I don’t know, maybe between Trump, Gamergate, the rise of the fascists, the introduction of making money off the Internet By Using Some Part Of Your Life As Content So Now You Are A Brand On YouTube/IG/Twitch/Tiktok - I got tired. The more you need ad money, the more you try to get eyeballs on your place, the more you act to provoke reaction, the more the algorithm rewards that - it doesn’t seem great to both the creator or to the audience. 

Maybe Twitter was best for me because I could just short grump a thought into the void. Long grumping into the void here was not the first part of the plan here. 

I still don’t know where I’ll end up. I think people are fascinating, I like reading and mostly lurking. I still don’t know how to balance This Is Important This Part Of The World Is On Fire and I think this tree looks pretty. I don’t know how long I’ll be here. But if you’d like to try out this internet corner, it’d be nice to see you.

In case you haven't heard, there was recently a far right wing political candidate from the UK messing with the first amendment rights of an American somehow. Alt-right sentiments run deep, especially in the country responsible for brining the first colonizers here. The system has been rotten since the start.

Sargon took part in a lot of internet campaigns that are inherently hateful like GamerGate, a group of harassers that subscribe to Sargon to this day that went out of their way to shame a woman game dev for cheating on her boyfriend after he made their breakup public like an emotionally manipulative chud. Aside from that he's railed against women's rights advocates and praised Trump during the 2016 elections. And this man has recently attempted to join UK politics. Let that sink in.

Her tweets explain it better than I can but I'm still going to go off. Women, especially women of color, tend to get the short end of the stick in legal proceedings. If a movie was chopped down to each major plot point with only some dialogue and scenes cut out, that movie would still get taken down as copyright infringement from the copyright holder on YouTube and even sue the hell out of the poster and win, so why can't another user have that same right? The answer is money and racism, and a little bit of sexism in the side.

Tl;dr

A white man's privilege reached over an entire ocean from another country to screw over a black woman in America.

Anon, I have no idea how far back you must have gone to find me talking about that (unless it came up recently and I forgot).

The interesting thing about censorship in general is that it can bring together people who are otherwise enemies. Just as TERFs team up with evangelicals to screw over the trans community, sometimes sex-negative folks on the left join forces with prudish folks on the right to oppose something. Sometimes, there can be well-meaning debate and disagreement over whether a piece of sexual content is empowering or not, or simply whether it is dehumanizing.

However, sometimes what’s easy to see as “sex-negative killjoys” are making a good point about sexism. I mean, we all know that the boobs-to-dong ratio on television, in movies, in video games is way, way unbalanced (Euphoria is an outlier adn should not have been counted). And we should always point out when we see women displayed as sex objects in a piece of media where men are not.

Where well-meaning critics go too far, I think, is when they say “this is problematic for X reason, so it shouldn’t be allowed.” The solution to most problematic material is to be conscious of what they did poorly and what needs to be improved. If you want to play it, have fun and keep that in mind. If you don’t want to play it, don’t play it.

With obvious but rare exceptions, you decide what’s a dealbreaker for you, but not for anyone else. Some well-meaning people go way too far when reacting to a piece of media.

Movements like Gamergate (barely distinguishable from red pill/MRA/incel etc; the venn diagram would look like a flower with astonishingly short petals) often rely upon distorting how someone responds to things. If a bad thing can be framed as a conspiracy, it’s so easy to get people to latch onto them -- even good people get caught up in the mix. The difference is that good people also step away. (These movements also prey, though not exclusively, on vulnerable people who’s inability to pick up on real-world social cues has made them feel ostracized and like the whole world is out to get them)

(Also, Anon, I am so sorry for how late this is. I think that I received this, unless I’m misremembering, between my Grandmother’s passing and her funeral and my brain has been Not So Great in the ensuing weeks. Not an excuse, just an explanation. I have no love for any of the content creators of Channel Awesome. I find the more popular ones to be self-aggrandizing, holier-than-thou, and untalented - and I particularly dislike the fact that Lindsay Ellis managed to make a reference to GamerGate targeted harassment, in 2018 - but the overall point that CA's management doesn't care about the content creators and refuses to support them still stands.

None of my opinions about the video producers as people, change the fact that nobody deserves to be treated this way, in pursuit of what should have - could have -been their dream jobs.

The really interesting thing is that, by the time the complainant has delivered their opening sentence, you can pretty much tell who the complaint is going to be about (Doug, Rob, or Mike Michaud) because each problem seems to have been tailor-made to get screwed up by the person the most well-positioned, but least willing, to actually address the problem.

(P.S. I knew that To Boldly Flee was garbage, but I had no idea how much it was garbage - I just thought it was self-indulgent nonsense that was more about How Great I Am than delivering quality content to the audience. That it was a pain to make doesn't surprise me but that it was so badly organized from the start definitely does. I also knew killing off the Nostalgia Critic character was a stupid move that would horribly backfire, and on that score I was completely 100% correct.)

I gotta say that Lauren Zuke is awesome and I’m sorry she’s being repeatedly bullied off social media by a bunch of entitled fake adults who don’t like that a cartoon didn’t do exactly what they want.

It’s been surreal watching the Steven Universe fandom produce its own Gamergate because you shitheads are so desperate to punish someone for changes you don’t like. When you’re harassing a woman for her opinions and disguising it as rational criticism you know you’ve turned into Sargon of Akkad.

Seriously, just replace complaining about ‘the SJWs’ with ‘the stans’ and you’ve got a match.

Shipping relationships aren’t real and when you’re hurting real people because your fake romantic scenarios for fake people aren’t canonically fake, you’re a living, breathing argument against people having personal autonomy.

I’m not sure how people can internally justify arguing they have a right to message a person directly with empty, derisive messages and then screw up their faces in anguish when they mock them back, but then again I’m not sure why people hate gay people so much. Or why gay people hate bisexual people for that matter.
