"I wish I could've realised sooner that I loved you"
pairing: Sebastian X GN!Reader (no gendered terms used x)
summary: Just sebastian reflecting on his experience with the farmer and realising a little too late about his feelings for them
warnings: a little angsty but not really
A/N: first fic uploaded here! I saw the prompt on Pinterest "I wish I could've realised sooner that I loved you" and just wanted to write this so pls be nice or I'll bite x
He remembers the buzz that spread through Pelican Town about a new farmer coming to town. The excitement didn't grip him like it did the others. Instead, he just thought, 'Why the hell would anyone move to this shithole?'. But then came the day when you first crossed paths with him—or rather, when you sought him out, you sought everyone out, eager to make friends. You approached him with a bright look in your eye he couldn't reciprocate at the time. You asked questions, so many questions, though he didn't always bother with full answers. Yet, you didn't seem to mind, simply smiling in response.
In fact, you seemed to seek him out persistently, showing up wherever he happened to be. He couldn't help but wonder, 'Who the hell would want to hang out with me so much?' And hang around you did—always, it seemed. He had to give you credit for your persistence. It never occurred to him that you sought him out specifically, remembering every little detail he let slip during your conversations. Heck, he couldn't even recall half the things he shared with you. Conversation had never been his strong suit, especially not with someone new. It was just another trivial aspect of this mundane town.
And then, there were the gifts. Those moments when you'd approach him with that smile, hands hidden behind your back as you presented a small trinket, like a frozen tear he offhandedly mentioned he thought looked cool—a token of your affection. He didn't usually receive gifts, except from his mom or Sam on his birthday and Christmas. He never really cared for them either. It was a gesture that caught him off guard, and yet here you were, offering him one on a random day for no apparent reason. Little did he realize then how commonplace such acts would become, or how often you thought of him, or how much thought and care you put into each token you gave him, but he did always make sure to be careful when handling your gifts. And he had to admit, a small smile would tuck at the corners of his lips every time he looked at them, not knowing how much he would begin to treasure them. He had to admit, it was nice, you were nice.
You were an awfully good listener, and even better at making him talk, which was irritating. Given that you always talked to him, he supposed you rubbed off on him, it just seemed easier to talk about things with you. He wished he'd listened to those details more in the beginning, perhaps even given you gifts of the things you said you liked. It turned out he didn't mind listening to you; he actually enjoyed it. He remembers a lot of it, like how you wished you played the keyboard as well as him, and how he offered to teach you, light-heartedly but never did. He wished he did now.
He remembers how he got annoyed whenever you initially tried to talk to him, thinking you were just dragging on the conversation for the sake of it. That turned to confusion when you didn't let up, even after settling into town. He never thought those would turn out to be the favourite parts of the day, or that he would be the one seeking you out. He can't believe he used to be annoyed by it. Even worse, he can't believe how much he would miss it when you two would talk alone, at night, where he knew only you heard the things he told you. When he knew how much you heard him and saw him. How you always smiled and never laughed at him or judged him for wanting to leave this town or be alone.
Nobody saw him the way you did.
He noticed you smiled a lot. Who wouldn't, he thinks, with a smile like that? He doesn't know how he didn't realize it sooner, but seeing your smile so often left the image permanently scored in his brain. The corners of your eyes would crease, and you would tilt your head slightly. Such a stark contrast to him. Oh, he rarely smiled, not because he was sad, he just didn't find many things worth smiling for, which you often rolled your eyes at. He remembers how you called his smile nice and that he should do it more, but he didn't think he would. Oh no, he was not like you.
You smiled at everything, the little things and the big things and the things he found annoying. So much so, he even began to notice how you had so many different smiles. The one where you were happy, when you were excited, sarcastic, the big ones, the small ones, the forced ones, even when you were actually mad or sad or nervous. Even if it was just through your eyes, each subtly different, but he learned to notice. He had never noticed back then how the smile you showed him was different from the ones you gave everyone else. Until they weren't.
And he never thought the day would come when he wished you'd only smile for him
He never imagined you actually liked him. Yes you were nice, you were lovely, in fact, but you were like that with everyone. He never really paid much mind to the way you blushed when asking him to dance with you at the flower dance. That stupid dance Mayor Lewis insisted on having that bored him to tears. He remembers at the time thinking he would've wanted to dance with Abigail if he had to, but now he can't believe he said no to you. How could he have said no to you? He thinks he would mind if you asked again, to dance with you.
In fact, he doesn't think he'd mind a lot of things now that you were here. He stopped feeling so sick of Pelican Town, for one. He thinks he could stay, maybe on your farm. And he visited much more than he ever thought he would.
But now he notices how the smile you give him now is different than before. A subtle difference, but he could never forget it now. Now you gave him the smile you gave everyone else, just now noting they were different - warmer.
He wanted to go back.
Now he notices how you don't actively track him down the way you used to, thinking he’d hear you knock on his door the way you always did, at the time you alwasy did, and he finds himself wanting to do the same to you.
He doesn't know if he's being dramatic at first, but when you don't ask him to dance with you at the flower dance, his heart sinks a little. He thought to ask you, perhaps, since you were friends now. Yes, you were friends now, one of his closest friends.
Oh, but then you asked Sam next to him, and you laughed, saying 'it would be fun.' And then his heart doesn't only sink but full on plummets to his stomach.
You're right, it would be fun, Sebastian thinks. But the feeling of watching you dance with somebody else made him want to throw up, and he didn't know why…
Until he did. He didn't want to admit it to himself, but he did. How embarrassing, he thinks - he wished he realised he had fallen for you sooner, before you fell out of love with him.

Can anyone who posts about stardew
Stop tagging their hate for a spouse in the spouse's main tag????
Literally it's so annoying trying to enjoy the npc I like and it's just getting spammed by people who hate the character.
It's literally called a salt tag or hate tag for a reason. Learn about it and stop filling up the main tag with your distaste for the character cause other people don't feel the same way.
We get it. Not every npc is going to be your taste. Just move on and stop spamming.

Y’know what. Screw it, random Harvey headcannon time:
This man is my personal little skrimblo, my grunkle if you will, so I have decided to compile my personal headcannons for him here for you folks!
His personal comfort show is Over the Garden Wall, I can imagine him listening to the soundtrack while he builds :]
He struggles with C-PTSD and RSD, which is possibly canon? Hinted at HEAVILY in his higher friendship/marriage dialogues. I just need him to know it’s gonna be okay ;-;
He enjoys antiquing and thrifting! I feel like he would heavily enjoy the pre-loved items, however making sure to properly cleaning them before he puts them away!
There is absolutely no evidence to prove this, but I feel like he would, or has collected coins. Really not sure why, I just feel like this fits him quite well.
Mentioned this in my last Harvey appreciation post, but I feel like he would be asexual or possibly demisexual! This might also be your local ace wanting more rep, but I get a strong vibe from this man.
He has a fear of getting tattoos. Both the commitment of having something on his body for so long, the risk of infection, and the fear of the actual process worry him, however he hopes to get one to represent Farmer soon :3
Harvey loves bugs. Another one I don’t have any evidence for, but I can just imagine him sitting on a bench outside with a little guy on his hand while he reads, or flipping over stones to make sure the pill bugs are doing well. (Also, he seems like the kind of person who had a bug hyperfixation, coming from someone with one)
He doesn’t know any instruments fluently per say, but he finds the mandolin to be a fun, and good instrument to play around with, especially learning songs for farmer!
He has a complex understanding of the International Phonetic Alphabet, and will go on happy rambles about etymology if farmer inquires! He is a doctor after all, and lots of medical terminology is based in latin, which has a deep connection with the IPA so this would make sense!
He is terrified of dogs, specifically small dogs. They just seem too evil and ill-intended, he cannot understand why these little goblins must be so aggressive, which is honestly valid
Anyways, that’s all i’ve got for now, but more coming soon possibly?? If folks want, I can do my headcannons for other characters as well!! Enjoy my friends :3

Changes With the Seasons| Stardew Valley| Sebastian x Reader
♡♡♡♡♡♡
Chapter Three: Fishing in the Mountain Lake
Masterlist
♡♡♡♡♡♡
Chapter Summary:
After realizing Robin had gone to an aerobics class and shut down her shop, rendering you unable to purchase her house upgrade, you decided to spend some time fishing in the Mountain Lake.
You didn’t know that that was where Sebastian came to smoke. Really, you didn’t. And it was a ‘very unwelcome surprise’ when you found out that he did.
♡♡♡♡♡♡
You’d finally managed to save up for one of Robin’s house extensions, the one that added a kitchen to your house- something you desperately needed. You were standing around at her counter, noticing her absence. You looked around helplessly, wondering where she could be or whether she was even in.
“It’s closed today. She’s gone for aerobics.”
You spun around, eyes narrowing when they landed on Sebastian. “How long have you been standing there?”
“Long enough to know how stupid you look.” He was wearing a black t-shirt and grey sweatpants. You could see his toned arms. You were star- wait, n-no you weren’t! You turned away to face the counter, to show you were blocking him out.
It didn’t work. He walked towards you, getting dangerously close until you were backed up against the counter. You’d never noticed how much taller he was than you. You gulped, steadying yourself with your palms on the wood.
“Well, I didn’t-“ you began to retort before he began to reach behind you, onto the counter. You could feel his breath on your lips, making your face heat up. He pulled back his arm and shoved a piece of paper at your chest. You snatched it up, glaring.
Gone for aerobics class. So the shop’s closed today.
“What did you even need from her anyway?”
“A kitchen extension,” you muttered. “Not that it’s any of your business.”
He tilted his head to the side, amusement glittering in his eyes, “You don’t have a kitchen?”
You huffed, pushing it back into his hands and ducking out from beneath him before beelining for the door. “No,” you snapped. “Piss off.”
You could feel his eyes boring into you as you left.
-
Fishing in the Mountain Lake was one of your favourite spots for fishing.
The sky had darkened, pale light rippling across the waters of the lake. You were just about to cast your rod out again when you heard the sound of grass shifting and leaves crunching. Footsteps.
“Yoba, can I never catch a break from you?” You complained. Sebastian smirked dryly, his eyes betraying contempt as he lit a cigarette.
“Not my fault you’re always hanging around where I live.” You rolled your eyes.
You both fell silent, the only sound being the water. He lowered his hands, the cigarette in between his lips, the end of it glowing orange in the dim light. He blew out some smoke. You watched it swirl off into the air, before flicking your eyes back to his face, trying to be as subtle as possible. Despite the cold air, you burned.
You convinced yourself you were just irritated and focused on your fishing. Occasionally your eyes drifted, though.
“Take a picture. It’ll last longer.”
“I’m not staring,” you replied, a little too quickly. You knew he was smirking.
“Sure.”
You stayed silent for a while more. Then you spoke up.
“You- you know, you shouldn’t really smoke.” Giving up on the fishing, you dropped your rod and made yourself comfortable on the grass. “It’s bad for you.”
He glanced at you without turning his head. “You sound like my mom.”
You tossed a stone into the water. “You should listen to her, then.”
He stared at you for a second longer, before dropping the cigarette and crushing it under his heel. He blew out the remaining smoke. “Fine, whatever.”
You skipped a stone across the water. It hopped three times before sinking.
“You know, people are like skipping stones,” he muttered. You looked up. He joined you on the grass.
“Huh?”
“People are like skipping stones,” he said, more clearly. “They all sink eventually.”
You stared at him. “Ok, emo.”
His brow creased as you grinned out across the water. “So what?” You continued. “The ocean bed can be beautiful, you know.”
“It’s mostly dark, but whatever,” he mumbled. But he glanced at you sideways again, something different in his expression. He ran his hand through his soft black hair. You stared at it. You wanted to reach out and touch it for some reason, but refrained from doing so and knotted your fingers together in your lap to stop yourself. You gulped, then cleared your throat.
“Stop making everything all dark and gloomy for once,” you huffed. He tilted his head to look at you. He didn’t say anything, just stared, intensely. “W-what?” Your voice sounded weak to your own ears, and quiet, drowned out by the blood pounding in your head.
The stars were more bright here than in Zuzu City, you noticed. So was the moon. It shone on Sebastian’s face like some sort of divine light, sparkling in his eyes like shards of diamond.
Sebastian stood up. “It’s getting dark. You should go home.”
You scrambled up, trying to ignore the incessant thudding in your chest as you picked up your fishing rod. “Fine, whatever. Bye.”
He turned around, already leaving. “Good night, Y/N.”
The way he said your name felt strange, for some reason.
“Good night.”
You trudged up the hill, towards your farm, passing by Linus’s tent on the way, His campfire crackled and glowed. There was no sign of the man himself.
You reached home. You sighed, and flopped down onto the bed.
And then that was it.
It was also the last thing you thought about that night before you fell asleep. Staring at the ceiling, until it all grew dark.
