PUPPY HAT!!!!!!! Okay so. This was for Halloween, but hopefully you can see where the inspiration came from? (Hint hint, first picture?) Puppy has been in my life since my first birthday, and we have been through /everything/ together. When mom said she was doing 101 Dalmatians as her Trunk-or-Treat theme this year, I had a plan to make my own costume by dyeing black spots onto white clothes. We found everything but white pants, so we bought this onsie from the Halloween store. I didn't care that it had a hood and my original plan didn't go as I thought, I still wanted to make my Puppy hat. I crocheted a white hat, used the wings from Mr. Birb's pattern to make one white and one black ear, attached them to the hat, put on two safety eyes (which I never use, it's always buttons) crocheted a bunch of black spots, and sewed them on after sewing/embroidering a nose and smile. I made sure the black ear was on the same side as Puppy's, and I almost made a black square to go around the eye like hers, but decided to just put on spots. This was so fun to make, and I literally wear it every day! When I shake my head, the ears flop 😄

He didn't know you made things? Like he knew you were creative, don't get him wrong and he'd seen you around with lots of knitted items. But he didn't know you made them.

One day, Sigewinne came in and she had the cutest little hat on her head. He had to ask. So she was all like "oh! (y/n) made it for me!" He was a little shocked.

He asked you, you explained, and he was just so interested! Since then, he likes to watch you work. You even made him a little tea cup and a tea bag book mark and he loves them so much.

He makes sure his desk is always dust free, they look super clean and brand new.

You've made him things like gloves, even went out of your way to make him a whole ass jacket. The man could wear everything you made him so proudly. Please never stop.

He will happily fund the supplies needed. You just tell him what you need and just be a teeny bit patient, like a couple days, and you'll have it. He tells everyone too.

If you should crochet a cardigan or bucket hat for your cat? Little to no responses. Lavender latte or milk tea for Drink of the Day? Lavender latte wins, but Chat immediately goes back to your hidden boyfriend.

This is what you get for forgetting to mute your mic. You had a whole phone call about dinner before realizing your mistake, and now everyone knows that wholesome, cozy Twitch streamer lightberry swears like a sailor when discussing pork katsu and calls a special someone “baby.” It’s been clipped already, you just know. At least you didn’t put him on speaker.

“‘100 subs if you tell us his name?’” you read. You'll indulge them because indulging Chat makes for good content. “I’ll tell you literally anything else.”

If you told them his name, you would end up trending on Twitter.

“‘Is he also a gamer?’ Yeah. Mostly League, Genshin, Apex. He’s been trying to get into Valorant. Now, 100 subs, please.”

Felix, otherwise known as LixInABox, is a gamer and streaming personality who has nearly a million subs on Twitch. He has a partner, an elusive figure exclusively referred to as “My Partner.” There are rumors that My Partner (MP) doesn’t actually exist and that they’re a cover for his singleness.

“‘20 subs if you tell us his rank?’ Sure. He's pretty high in everything. I can’t ever duo with him, except in Genshin.”

When he started streaming, he was primarily known for his League of Legends skills. Low Masters on a good day, Diamond 3 on the bad ones.

“‘Show us a picture.’ You know what, I’ll do that for free.”

Chat is not happy when you pull up a photo of Marshal from Animal Crossing. To be fair, he does resemble Felix a little.

While they continue to pester you about his identity, you continue terraforming your butterfly-shaped lake. When Marshal walks by with a sandwich, you make sure to point him out.

“There’s my boyfriend,” you say as you glance at the chat, which is scrolling by so quickly, your eyes can barely keep up.

“I forgot to mute during our call,” you admit. “And I also gave them hints in exchange for subs, but I didn’t think they were anything obvious.”

He looks at his chat and laughs. “You basically told them what I’m famous for. And a picture of Marshal? No wonder.”

Chat explodes. You and Felix will never live this down, but it feels better than you thought. And you really don’t want to admit it, but lixberry is really, really cute.

"why are we doing this again?" draco muttered as he watched enzo open the box he had helped you bring into the common room.

"it makes her happy" pansy was sitting next to him, her arms crossed.

"well, it makes me miserable" blaise let himself fall into the cushion and almost onto draco, who dove to the side just a second before.

"look where you plant your arse, you idiot!" he shrieked annoyed.

"this is the worst thing ever" mattheo was rolling himself a cigarette as he watched you across the room.

you were laughing at something theo said, while enzo was still busy opening the package your grandma had send. the two were the only ones who you got to help you with all of this. the rest of the boys and pansy didn't really know why they were here in the first place, but they all knew you were so happy about it, so not one of them dared to leave.

you let out a happy sound when the lid finally flew open. what you picked out next was making the rest of your friends look away in dread.

"i'm not wearing that" draco stated almost immediately.

"neither am i" blaise added

"oh come on" you were now holding the sweater in their direction "you would all look so handsome in them"

"did your grandma knit one for each of us?" theo asked as he took a look into the box.

"of course!" you smiled "she loves christmas just as much as me! and she likes all of you so much since you spend the summer, so she insisted on doing that"

"that was probably so much work" enzo took another sweater out and traced the pattern with his finger "half double crochet huh?"

all of you send him confused looks.

"my grandma used to do crochet" he mumbled, before he quickly folded the sweater and put it back into the box

blaise stood up from the couch and took a closer look on the sweater still in your hand. "grandma chrissie really did that?" he asked, while tearing up a bit "for us?"

"oh calm down, you moron" draco rolled his eyes.

"would you please put them on? for me?" you pleaded and did that look with your eyes your friends hated. it made the part of you stand out, that had also fitted into hufflepuff, before the sorting hat had ulitmately put you in slytherin.

"y/n" mattheo sighed

pansy shrugged and stood up from the couch. "i guess it's kind of cute" she simply said, before she took her sweater out of the box.

as if to not raise much awareness, blaise softly took his sweater out of your hands. theo and enzo searched for theirs silently and mattheo and draco looked at each other, silently fighting who was breaking first.

"sure" draco said bitterly and mattheo laughed in triumph.

each of your friends put their sweater on and you did the same. "now sit down!" you instructed "we're going to take a picture"

"do we have to?" blaise whined.

"for grandma chrissie?" enzo asked and you nodded, which made your friends hesitantly agree.

you set up the camera and directed your friends to sit on or stand behind the couch. then you sat down in the free spot in the middle, smiling brightly. "i hope you are all smiling" you mumbled and your friends did as instructed, to your surprise, without a single word of protest.

the camera signaled with a click that the photo had been taken and you laughed, clapping your hands. before you hugged theo tightly (he was the closest to you) "thank you guys"

without them really wanting it, mattheo, draco, pansy, blaise and theo had to smile at your enthusiasm and the childlike happiness that bubbled out of you. enzo smiled too, but he wanted it.

the picture was printed and send to grandma chrissie, where it found a permanent place on her fridge.

First, I adore you and your brain. Second, I have a silly little ankle tattoo of a doodle (it’s a lemon man) my sister made and fully love poorly drawn lil things so Eddie’s octopus is my favorite. Third! I picked up crochet during the pandemic (the first bit lmao where I got laid off and super depressed) and it’s so therapeutic when i need to just shut down and focus on one thing because I’m stressed or overwhelmed. I’m working on coasters right now, and god they’re so much easier than the first coaster pattern I tried (that one put me off for a while). I just had a funny thought though, of when Steve gets fully into it and does what a lot of us crafters do and stocks up on yarn for future projects.

I bought a big ass show organizer for all of mine and have to restrict myself to just what fits in there

(Also I’m picturing Eddie in a wonky hat like the one I just tried to make for my sister’s cat but he’s still wearing it super proud)

At the start of the pandemic, I got a new job where I was working half in the office and half from home. I also moved out of my parents’ house so I suddenly alone all the time and to kinda cope with that, I picked up knitting. I originally tried crochet but I just couldn’t get my hands to work right, but I’ve gotten it down (at least enough to do the second row), and I agree with you. It is very therapeutic and I’m happy that it was able to help you through a rough time.

And lol, but all of us crafters are the same because I have a whole shelf dedicated to yarn I bought for future knitting (and now crochet) projects.

It’s not Steve’s intention.

He is just trying this hobby out so he can tell his physical therapist that he gave it a go and it didn’t work. Steve is not crafty or creative like Eddie, so he doesn’t need to buy all this stuff.

But he did need to buy melting chocolate, so he agreed to go when Robin asked if he wanted to go to Michael’s with her. And yeah, maybe he did pick up a new crochet hook but that’s because there’s clearly something wrong with his. What other explanation is there for why he keeps skipping stitches?

And maybe he did get a new skein of yarn, but he’s just being practical. If he’s going to make Eddie a hat than he is going to need a color that compliments Eddie’s complexion, right? He might as well get this blue too. It’s a pretty color and there’s only like, five skeins left. It could disappear forever.

Then he bought a bowl to hold his yarn but it was cute! It was shaped like a sloth. And yeah, he got the yarn winder thing. That’s just practical. And okay, well. Joann’s has magazines with patterns in them so Steve’s going to need that.

And it all kinda just snowballs until, “Babe, what the hell did you buy for a hundred and fifty dollars at Michael’s?”

Steve, surrounded by yarn in each color, “Nothing.”

Also, Eddie absolutely wears anything that Steve makes him. A fan took a picture of him buying cigarettes in a lopsided hat. Another fan took a picture of him at show where his guitar strap has a single crochet chain wrapped around it. There’s a Tiktok where Eddie is pulling his hair up with a crocheted scrunchie.

Delicate. That’s the word.

Crocheting is a delicate hobby. Emerald eyes follow the tenderness of your fingers as you weave and you curl and you go in and out with that small needle and that one piece of yarn, and eventually, those eyes watch you begin to weave something resembling a... scarf.

The concept is endearing, but Malleus still feels out of place with something so delicate.

“Child of Man,” he pauses to start on another row, albeit slowly, “is this right?”

You look over, keeping your fingers in the same places within the tangle of yarn you plan to turn into a scarf, and purse your lips just slightly. He frowns when your eyebrows furrow, and assumes bad news.

“Not… quite.” And he watches again as you reach that tender, gentle finger out and point to a previous row that he messed up on, one he hadn't noticed prior, your needle bumping against his knuckles. “See that?”

The housewarden huffs, and you chuckle out loud as an angered puff of smoke breezes through his nostrils along with it. Now both determined and frustrated, Malleus sets his mind once again on completing the beanie he promised to make you mere hours ago. You had been so patient, guiding his hands, showing him where to hold the needle, where to thread, where to start new rows and different stitches (the magic circle in itself was a struggle), so he had to see it through.

Lilia had always complained about his ears going cold when the snowfall started. Silver had mentioned that having a new pair of gloves would be nice, and Sebek... well, unbeknownst to him, Sebek would appreciate a singular piece of yarn, had it come from Malleus's hands, but even still, he wanted to do something kind. And for you, he'd planned to make a hat. He remembered you had let it slip that you needed more winter clothes for the approaching holiday, too. You'd done enough and more for him: the least Tsunotaro could do was crochet a few garments.

"You'll get it, Mal, don't get pouty," you assured him, those same delicate fingers he so loved running up and down his back in soothing waves. "You've gotten better, y'know?" you offered. "Remember what you were like the first time you tried to do this? We had so much scrap yarn!" With that, came a sweet laugh.

It was true. The young prince had improved, but he didn't do it himself.

"Look. Are you having trouble with the shape?" Even as you spoke, your fingers never stopped working that yarn through the needle. Leaning over to support yourself on his broad shoulder, your squished cheek against his upper arm, you told him, "Keep your stitches loose, Mally, you don't need to be so tense."

He looked down at you just as you were telling him not to be so hard on himself. From an onlooker's perspective, anyone would be able to tell he loved everything about the predicament he was in, even from a single glance.

"You are a very good teacher."

Pausing, your head raises to meet his eyes. They flicker down every so often as you finish up your final stitches (goodness, you really had been working all that time?), finally giving your fingers (and poor needle) a break. A grin breaks across your pretty lips, stretching into your cheeks in that way your lover so adores. You hoist the muffler up just above his shoulders, wrapping it around Malleus's bare neck until only his plush top lip peeks out.

He takes in the green and black pattern of the new gift, careful not to tear the yarn with his nails. He had to be delicate with it, because now it was precious.

You open your mouth to answer, cheeks pressed against his shoulder once more.

"And you are a very good learner."

So I decided to learn to knit! I've never before found a way to ethically and cheaply get yarn. I found a little ball of yarn outside at some point, as one does, and saved it, but beyond that I didn't have any other tools. Then I saw a video showing how you can take a thrifted machine-knit sweater, and undo it back into yarn, and then just knit with that. Incredible, since I have a full box of old sweaters, I just need to figure out which ones are easily undone.

So I grabbed my little ball of found yarn, and then I needed some needles. I looked up what I could use instead, and found there's plenty of alternatives; pencils, chopsticks, wooden sticks for barbecue. Looking around my room I realized I had some very long paintbrushes; I tried to use them, and immediately realized they need to have a pointy end. I grabbed a pencil sharpener and sharpened them; only this made them very rough and splintered. I needed to sand them down, but I had no sandpaper, and then I remembered that recently someone gave me a flat tool that removes dry skin from feet. I sanded them down with that, and it actually worked, they worked perfectly like knitting needles. They're even the same size.

The knitters probably already know this, but if you start knitting for the first time, especially if it's winter and you're under a blanket, some ancient human instinct will activate and you will feel that you are doing exactly what you're supposed to be doing and everything is well and right with the world. Creating fabric is a powerful thing to do, in a society where everyone needs fabric to stay alive, and go outside, and I like having this power to myself.

I found out there are two basic types of stitches; knit stitch, and purl stitch. I liked the knit stitch better, on the basis that purl stitch had 'bad vibes'.

It knew before that most fabric will be woven, or knitted, or in some cases, crochet, so I got little curious, and studied each layer of clothing on me, and every single item of clothing was knit, and it was all a purl stitch. I got fascinated by this, wondering if this is true for most clothing, or if I just somehow prefer knit things on me because they're nice and stretchy. Looking into other fabrics, I could easily tell that all of the sheets, pillowcases and kitchen cloths were woven, and that they were much sturdier and less stretchy for it.

I looked at stuff in my closet, and found that I had a scarf, hat, and pants that were woven, but in very soft and warm fabric, and they were very sturdy and non-stretchy as well. I then wondered what was the logic behind it, and is there a traditional type of things that will be woven, that isn't just bedsheets and cloths?

I tried to find a video on youtube detailing that stuff, but no female-made video was found, so I'm now downloading several women-written audibooks on the topic of history of textiles. I think we should just take the power to make textiles back to us, because back when women were the maker of the cloth, it was just something we 'did out of the goodness of our hearts for our families' but it was also environmentally friendly, practical, sustainable and a beautiful, powerful craft. Now that m*n decided it's something to make money off, they created fast fashion, tons of waste and environmental damage, new types of slavery for workers, and the clothing isn't even practical anymore, it's made to fall apart.

So, back to my knitting, I have to say it's not happening very fast, I thought by the end of the day I would be done with that little ball of yarn and be able to tell how much fabric it can make, nope, did not happen, in fact I've been working on it two days and by this time I've barely made any progress. Apparently the 'purl stitch' is faster, well, I'm still refusing to do it. Boo purl stitch. The yarn I found outside is some of the worst quality yarn I've ever seen, not only it's different in thickness everywhere, but in some places there are 3-4 different threads distangled from each other, and it confused me so much while knitting that I kept adding stitches on the brush unnecessarily, until the entire thing could barely fit on one.

One thing that surprised me was how incredibly soft, stretchy and comfortable the fabric feels when made. I genuinely expected the fabric to be as horrifying as the yarn quality, nope, it's nice and comfy I absolutely love it.

There is a movement in online spaces for being mindful of environment when purchasing clothing, and making our own wardrobes, which is absolutely delightful; seeing people gain new respect and fascination for clothing, sewing and textile making, and then doing it themselves and becoming non-dependent on capitalism, it's the change the world needs. I didn't think I would try to join in, because I get so much discarded and unwanted clothing from others, I wouldn't need to buy any ever, but I did get fascinated by looms, natural fibers, and women doing all that work, that I can't resist trying it out.

I believe Emily is the type of person to give EVERYONE a valentine's day card/gift. When the new farmer arrives some of the local singles are quick to join in on this tradition.

Bachelorettes

Emily- Emily gives everyone a little something of valentine's day because everyone deserves to feel special! Emily also tries to make hand make each gift so everyone has their own personal little something. When working at the saloon paying attention to what little things people mention liking. Shane says it's getting colder when he walks to work? Knitted hat and scarf with little chickens on it. Leah keeps destroying her clothes with paint finner? Hand sewn apron with lots of pockets for tools. With the new farmer Emily would crochet a little guy. Maybe the farmers favourite animal maybe a magical creature from the area with a little hand written note wishing you a happy valentine's day.

Hailey- Hailey is not like Emily. You only get a gift of her if yous are very close and she likes you. But if she does you get the cutest little hamper basket. She spends a while online getting face masks and chocolates to match her gift aesthetic for you. Maybe even some matching pajamas for you both but unless yous are already dating she's adamant it's a pal-ntines gift honestly it's not like she like she has a crush on you or anything.

Abigail- I honestly believe Abigail, Sam and Sebastian would buy each other the most ridiculous gifts they can find and Abigail would be quick to rope you into it. But maybe with you she puts a little more thought into it a little card with some pun "your my boo" or "I think you are DEAD cute" and the gift would be heart felt but funny and personal to the two of you. Sebastian is the only one who notices her blushing as she gives you the gift.

Maru- doesn't understand the point of valentine's day. Especially after reading into the origins of the holiday. Besides the holiday is so commercialised it's lost all meaning. Even if dating or married maru would only celebrate the holiday of you wanted to. They really mean well and love you dearly but they show affection through actions not gifts.

Penny- penny LOVES valentines day she tries to give everyone a little card with a lovely message. Penny and Emily go around the village together giving gifts and cards for everyone. Even her lessons that day focus on self love and appreciating friends and family. Jaz and Vincent love it. After she has self care time. Self love. Now penny is really shy and it takes a lot of encouragement to to make your valentine's day card a little more special to express her feelings. I could see penny making a flower crown from wild flowers and giving it to you.

Leah- She's friends with Elliot so of course she feels the need to really express the type of love she feels for you. Platonic, romantic, aesthetic doesn't matter she'll embrace it and create a sculpture that expresses that. After her ex she is quite reluctant to express her feelings in a direct way especially when the holiday brings up so many bad memories. But letting go of her emotions through her craft feels good and since you inspired her it makes sense to give it to you. It's like her own secret confession.

Bachelors

Sam- Sam really likes the holiday especially finding the most ridiculous cringe gifts to give his friends! He is really excited when you join in the tradition and can't wait to give his friends their funny gifts. If he likes you romantically he actually really struggles choosing a gift for you. Nothing really feels right to give to you. Abigail and Sebastian were easy but you? He ends up asking his mum for advice Jodi realises he has a crush on you (wait till Caroline finds out her little boy has a crush). Jodi suggests he writes a song so it's more personal. He does this but when the day comes he gets a little embarrassed and puts the CD through your letter box. Sadly he didn't say who it was from let's hope you recognize him through his music!

Sebastian- Sebastian really enjoys the new addition to the group. It took him a while to feel comfortable around you but now he does he loves playing D&D with you he loves sneaking off to your farm to escape his family for a smoke. He really appreciates you so when valentine's day came around he was actually really excited to get you the most embarrassing gift he could think of. You want a big blanket with funny pictures of the four of you printed on it right?

Alex- Alex always gives his grandparents nice gifts to show he appreciates and loves them this year he has a person to buy for. You. When grandma Evelyn finds out she is over the moon and feels this is the perfect moment to pass on the family cookie recipe. The first batch come out edible but questionable and kinda heart shaped. If you squint. Alot. When George finds out he gives lots of dating advice. Doesn't matter if he likes you romantically or not he's getting THE TALK from George. Lucky Alex.

Elliot- oh lord. This man. If yous are just friends you get a beautiful poem expressing his appreciation of your friendship. He turns up at your door at sunrise so you can start your day knowing he cherishes your friendship and is so thankful you chose this farm to move to. It is really touching and the fresh coffee be brings is really appreciated too. If he is in love with you he would set up a candle lit picnic on the beach at sunset. Candles lit very fancy wine (or any beverage he knows you like) with lots of food to nibble on between chatting. When the sun starts to recite the poem expressing his deep love for you. His muse. His beloved.

Harvey- after maru pushing him to confess his feelings for you and Emily chatting about the valentine's day preparations he finally decides to express it. He doesn't go out of his way to find you he just bumps into you when on his daily walk and plucking up his courage gives you the card and tells you how he feels. How he appreciates you how he values you how he feels more confident when he's around you. If yous are dating or married he will prepare a healthy little breakfast hamper and take care of some things about the farm so you can take it easy and relax.

Shane- this guy. He has never celebrated valentine's day he says it's because he believes it's just for joja mart to sell lots of heart shaped crap. He knows this isn't true he just finds it easier to hate the holiday than to feel sad he doesn't have someone special to share it with. He spends valentine's day with jaz who paints his nails gets him to make lots of cards with her. He finds himself making one for you and when jaz sees you she gives you his card. He didn't realise jaz took that card he thought it went in the bin but now you have the card you were never ment to get. After than jaz drags both of you to pick flowers and make flower crowns. Sitting together amongst the flowers Shane realises jaz has left the two of you alone which leads to you giving Shane his card and starting a conversation Shane never knew he needed to have. Just ignore jaz peaking around a tree proud of her work.
