I WAS NOTTTTTT PLEASED WITH HOW THE DRIVING PLOT OF THIS SEASON WAS 2 STRAIGHT ROMANCES???? NEITHER OF WHICH WAS GOOD????? bro how did we go from 2 gay romances last season that drove character development to LUTHER MEETS AND FUCKS RANDOM GIRL IMMEDIATELY and DIEGO AND LILA ARE BACK ON THEIR BULLSHIT AND ALSO BAD FOR EITHER OTHER …….. anyway.

everyone this season was kind of a stupid asshole? EXCEPT klaus viktor and five of course. god they are such good characters and i love them so much. i was wondering for so long how theyd ~bend reality~ to fit viktor being a dude into the new timeline but he was just like “im…viktor now” and all his siblings were like “k cool whatever” LMAOAOJDLAJSLS it was SOOO funny…. loved that. very real sibling interaction.

also i love klaus soooo much im glad we got to see more of him and his backstory and even some character development… and his powers!!! MY BOY. i also love five and tho aiden gallager is super annoying in real life my GOD does he play that character well. i LOVE five. old man in body of 13yo just never gets old hes sooo good i just wish we got SO MUCH MORE about his plot????? like it was wayyy more interesting than anything else going on??

honestly tho the whole last seasons driving plot being about the Commission and the intricacies and laws of time travel and how it intersects with the umbrella academys stories was SOOO GOOD…. and then this seasons main plot points were. luther wants to bone and then marry the enemy family girl. diegos still doing his weird toxic ass thing with lila who lies to him about having his child???? and allison goes full evil because she thinks her daughter not existing is like the most trauma anyones ever faced :| girl shut the HELL up. i felt rly let down by the plot in this it sucked honestly. and how did we go from 2 amazing moving queer relationships to ZERO while i had to sit through tropey straight bullshit. ugh. did yall forget to run this script by gerard or what lmao

i did generally like the ben plotline tho, like i rly didnt see it coming that he was gonna be a huge asshole??? i kinda wanted more of OUR ben who i loved tho :( but they rly made it work in the latter half of his plotline i think. like i didnt buy his whole deal but they finally gave him motives and emotions by the end and that was GOOD. really liked how that rounded out. the other sparrows were literally nothing tho like bye rip i guess????

overall i did enjoy watching this season and felt pulled in but got the plot was SOOOO lackluster compared to seasons 1 and 2. bleh. viktor klaus and five are my SPECIAL LITTLE BOYSSSS and i love them tho

out of curiosity, what do you think the duffers could have done to help mitigate the homophobic fandom? do you just mean making byler canon earlier, or dropping heavier-handed hints/clues/foreshadowing that are harder to dismiss in the show? or are you thinking something they themselves could’ve done in real life, like actively going out of their way to support pride month or something like that?

i’m also thinking abt how the show presents itself, on several occasions, to be very anti-bullying and how it prides itself on celebrating those who might be considered losers, weirdos, and outcasts. but because this idea is never really explicitly stated or emphasized in the show, casual viewers tend to gloss over it, or miss it entirely. is this the duffer bro’s fault? is this an indication that they could have done more? done better? and do they have a moral responsibility to educate those who are intent on missing the point?

maybe! i don’t rly know how i feel. i love the show, i love byler, and i do agree that there are certain moves the duffers have made that i’m not 100% happy with. also the idea of a gay plot twist is kind of…. you know, fun, but not the best. however, i also try to keep in mind that these are two (presumably) cis straight men and so, i cut them some slack and i immensely appreciate what they’re trying to do (assuming ofc they are moving in a canon byler direction).

for them to establish two canon queer relationships in a mainstream show that i love that isn’t centered around queerness??? i could cry tears of joy just thinking abt it, and so i feel i’m more compelled to dismiss some of the mistakes the duffers make along the way.

anyway, sorry that the ask is ridiculously long (feel free to ignore it, or only address a small part of it if it’s too overwhelming!). i hope it makes sense, though it might just come off as incoherent rambling - whoops. i’m honestly just speaking recreationally lol, but i’d love to hear some more thoughts frm you on the subject if you’re willing!

To touch on the first/main question - what could the Duffers have done to mitigate the homophobia?

There's a lot they could have done.

Within the show, if they're intending to make Byler canon, which I do believe they are, I think that season 4 should have officially broken up Mileven and also have had an undeniably, overtly romantic moment for Byler that the GA can't miss. Even if the final cabin scene had a hand touch rather than the shoulder touch, that would have been enough for me. Because yes, to me, and you, and 250k other Bylers, it has been obvious; but for the GA and Milevens, they have purposefully left enough wiggle room to keep them on the hook. Again, I respect the straight-bait, but if they're prioritizing straight-baiting over protecting their queer fans, that's not a great look.

But to me, much more important is what they could do outside the show. While there are occasional posts about Byler on various Stranger Things social media, I feel like there is so much more that could be done to show support to the ship and its queer fans, especially if it is endgame.

They could have explicitly and overtly addressed Will's sexuality on all channels after the release of season 4 instead of leaving it to Noah Schnapp.

They could have explicitly stated in an interview that Will is an equally viable love interest for Mike as Eleven is going into season 5 instead of prioritizing shock value and spoiler avoidance over the wellbeing of their queer fans.

Most vitally, they could have acknowledged/addressed the presence of homophobic fans and bullying in the fandom and explicitly condemned hateful folks as misunderstanding the show's core values. Take for example how Rick Riordan responded to racist fans criticizing the casting for Annabeth & Grover:

"The negative comments she has received online are out of line. They need to stop. Now. Anyone can be a hero. If you don’t get that, if you’re still upset about the casting of this marvelous trio, then it doesn’t matter how many times you have read the books. You didn’t learn anything from them."

After season 4's confirmation that Will is gay, they should have made an outright statement along these lines, that hate is unacceptable and that those who are hateful are fundamentally opposed to the values of the show. Instead they (or at least, Netflix) is more preoccupied with maintaining the general audience for as long as possible, even at the expense of the often-more-dedicated queer fans.

Really though, I'm more happy about a queer relationship being canon in such a mainstream show than I am upset about the lack of support for queer fans, because ultimately, this queer relationship and representation is offering support in a lot of ways. But they're doing this while also spending years allowing some of their biggest fans to be gaslit into thinking they're "delusional" for interpreting what the show is saying.

I guess ultimately I just feel like, if they're going to engage with queer stories and queer characters, they also have to have some responsibility for mitigating the negative impact they can have on real queer fans and queer spaces.

16. Dark secrets/‘skeletons in the closet’

I have 4 things I think of in here so I’ll expand them >:) Some zrs2 and zr5k spoilers!

1. Sam gets attached to Runner Five because of his ties to the old Runner Five, Alice Dempsey. I feel like it starts like that at least. But the seasons and missions in it stretch out for months, so by the time the middle of s2 swings around I feel like Sam has worked that out (specially before the Little Lies mission in the s2 finale—his anger feels different there because it somehow really feels like it’s reserved for love and protectiveness of OUR Runner Five, and not just their number.) Don’t get me wrong though, he’s not the type to take rebounds and other people as replacement for his loss, and in zr5k i know he takes the time to heal and grieve (it’s heavily implied in there lol)—but Sam is a really emotionally driven character and I feel like him feeling affection for our runner five will be overshadowed by him losing Alice.

He’s also the type to not notice this until someone points it out. After that, he’ll think about it a lot. He won’t tell ANYBODY though. Not even whoever points it out for him (I’m thinking Maxine). He won’t elaborate and he’d rather fix it on his own instead of asking someone else and sounding like a fucking asshole since there’s really no nice way to say Hey, I think I’m starting to like this person but I keep seeing my ex in them bc of their designation so what do i do?

2. Feelings. Really deep feelings. I guess it’s not really dark but I think Sam would also hold off on telling Runner Five what he feels as long as he thinks he’s only infatuated because of Alice. Even after that—he takes a long time to show the mere tip of its iceberg. In my personal headcanon of events, Sam gets an inkling of “oh shit maybe I do like Runner Five and this isn’t just a silly infatuation anymore” when they get kidnapped in the Tightrope mission in s2. The Athena mission was honestly a shit end of that little arc bc the tone is ODD and Sam threw a fit in A Voice in the Dark but he’s knitting all chill and cool after they got tortured by Van Ark?? LMAO?? Also I was told the knitting is a reference to Odysseus’s wife waiting for him to come home and I’m just here like Hahaha s2s are you Saying he is the malewife YOU AINT SLICK

Anyway. That. And then he gets the scare of his life in the s2 finale when Sara is revealed to be the traitor—like, you can HEAR him sound so angry but also so so worried. He’d been friends with Eight longer than he knew Runner Five so Sam is well-versed with what Sara is capable of. He’d also seen it in the moments prior to this event. I personally think that when Sara cut him off of comms, his brain just went wild with worst case scenarios (haha here’s a song that makes me think of this) and it’s when he gets this dawning realization that he DOES have feelings. It’s real and oh so horrifying because it’s not that Sam doesn’t want to lose them, it’s that he can’t. He can’t afford to. Because god knows he’s hanging on a thin thread and if he loses another person he loves, he doesn’t know if he can keep going.

But he can’t say that for a million reasons; he can’t let Five know he depends on them that much, can’t let anyone know he originally started feeling this way because of their number, can’t let anyone know he’s not as optimistic and strong as he likes to seem. Apart from his affection for Runner Five, Sam keeps most of his emotions hidden under wraps because there’s rly no time to feel things in the apocalypse. I think he’d lie about it even if his actions and words betray him all the time. He doesn’t want to be seen as soft either and has somehow fooled himself into thinking that not outwardly showing his feelings equates to bravery or strength.

3. He feels alive as a Radio Operator and feels useless otherwise. I know he mentions this in AVITD but I wanted to expand on it! Sam forces himself to operate in the comms shack even when he was sick (this was a side mission in s2) and I think it’s because he sees this as his only purpose. Y’know how people say Everyone in Abel pulls their weight? And how some runners probably resent radio operators because of how they’re guiding them in safety while runners are out endanger their lives in the field? Yyyyeah. This guy probably overworks just to prove he’s pulling his own weight.

Basically; that thing that Sara said about feeling the most alive when running away from zombies, and that’s probably horrible or something? I think Sam is like that too, as a Radio Operator. He feels pride and confidence when his runners get home safely. He feels euphoric when he manages to help them evade a horde or an obstacle. And when he fucks up, he takes it twice as hard because it proves that he sucks at his job and isn’t doing enough. But he’s also afraid that if anyone knew that he feels this—like he said to Runner Five, that he loves what he does—everyone would think he’s a psychopath playing video game dolls with real people’s lives whatsoever and likes it.

4. Lastly, he would kill if it meant he could keep his loved ones safe. Sam is generally a kind-hearted person but he goes ruthless and CRUEL when it comes to people who betray his own. Y’all remember Ephraim? Yeah? He told Eight and Five to dump his ass to die since he betrayed them before. He was especially fucking cruel to Nadia for trying to kill Five. Yeah. I deadass think this guy would stab someone a billion times if it means his friends would make it. And catch this; the someone also includes himself.

i get what you mean about reading being one of the biggest inspirations for writing. whenever i'm in a writing slump, i just pull out a fanfic or a book and i'll suddenly feel the urge to write again XD

and our planning process is surprisingly rather similar? i still like planning bc i like to be specific for foreshadowing and symbolism, but i agree that the story is sometimes... a thing of its own. i'll plan for things to be this way and while writing it just gets snatched out of my hands to become it's own things. it's struggle for me i suppose there's a lot of back and forth: i like my plans, but i can't deny that the story just wants to go elsewhere.

i also normally always start at the start of the story! just like you, i have the words play out in my head word for word, but i normally don't pen down these thoughts because i feel they're not refined. i will repeat them though, and when i sit down i use them as reference or a guide on the angle of my story. it's really nice to compare and see similarities in writing processes! i guess the charm of your work is the story's flow, and that is from how you write unrestrained by a plan. i like that style! >:3c

and the wedding that we went to attend was beautiful -- there was drama (bc isn't there always) but it was nothing compared to all the good things that happened :). i was just so fucking tired after i got back LOL i needed vacay from my vacay ukno????

next year, i promised myself that i would travel more for myself, bc this year, i ended up traveling for a bunch of different weddings and engagements, and not !!! that i don't love that and am super happy for my friends!!! but like. it's different traveling for JUST urself vs traveling for someone else's wedding/engagement, ykno? so yeah u__u i think im gonna plan a trip to italy w/ my bf, and maybe one to japan with my mom :D we'll see!!!!

I have a huge crush on Daniel McGuffey, a video game producer/lead singer of a band, who participated in MasterChef Season 5 nine years ago

It's been a crazy month. I've always known the show MasterChef but never had the interest to watch it until I saw some short clips of MC S4 on Chinese Tiktok (Douyin) in June or July this year. Genuinely, it was just really enjoyable seeing the short clips during my uni break, and I felt I could also improve my English by watching MC. So I decided to watch the actual show starting with S5. Lol that's how I started to binge watch the show! 🤣🤣

In the first episode, that's when I noticed this hot looking guy in a striped t-shirt, with lots of tattoos on his arms, and a pair of glasses. Yeah, it's Daniel McGuffey, lol, but I didn't pay much attention to him at the beginning (coz he barely had any screen time, I mean...). I was more into the show because of Leslie and Ahran, hahahah.

Then in ep12 or 13, when Daniel teamed up with Jaimee, he finally got some screen time, and I thought they looked really cute together, and kinda shipped them 🫢😳😳 This is when I started to pay much more attention to Daniel. However, ironically he soon got eliminated because of the stupid egg soufflé (only when I JUST started to like him A LOT).

Ok, so after I finished S5, I started searching for the contestants' social media to see how they are doing today, and of course, I went straight to Daniel, but guess what? His Instagram account is private. So I requested so many times, but he wouldn't accept my request🙁 So I went to Twitter, but it seems like his old account DanielKaiju was deleted. So I then switched to Facebook, and finally this time I found his account! I got to see recent photos & videos of him, yay!

From Facebook, I got to know that Daniel is now part of a band called The Pride, which I actually started listening to, lol. Their music is even available on the Chinese app QQ music!!!

I like Daniel so so much, so I wanted to find a place where I can share my thoughts. So I downloaded Reddit, an app I've never used before. Sadly, not many people talk about Daniel there. So I then searched for Daniel on Tieba (a Chinese platform similar to Reddit). Luckily, I found a number of posts that expressed their feelings for Daniel which also complimented Daniel's looks lol. Of course, these posts were from like 9 years ago, but I randomly felt the need to reply to some of the posts, and wow, a person actually soon replied to my comment! Lol, we started chatting about the show and how we both like Daniel. 🥰🥰

From this person (who has liked Daniel since 2014, unlike me who only started liking him in 2023🥲), I got to know much more about Daniel's personal life. For example, how he was part of the IWSNT music video, worked for WB, had a fiancée during MC era, got married after the show, but it seemed like they got divorced later though…

At this point, I kinda became a stalker, stalking the girl’s Instagram, and also Daniel’s friends’ insta…(I feel so creepy, I'm truly sorry for the stalking in past week, I just wanna know more about you😒😞😞)

Put that aside, it was rly surprising to know that Daniel filmed lots of music videos or just fun videos back then. Wow, what a talented man who can create video games, draw, act, sing, and cook! (And look so good at the same time😍

I seriously have a huge crush on you Daniel🥹🥹. I know you had lots of fangirls back then during your IWSNT era and when MC was aired. I saw your tweet and I’m sorry you’re getting hate. I don’t ship enchantricks, just Sylki but I do follow you and I agree that people should stop posting about her being or becoming enchantress. I think it’s rude to hijack and honestly I don’t want her to be enchantress, I love her as her own unique character. She isn’t similar to Amora at all either. Sophia and the writers even said Sylvie is her own woman and won’t be any characters we’ve seen before. I’m not sure why people want her to be. All Sophia said is that she’s AN enchantress in terms of she can enchant, the same way Loki can or Wanda or Strange. But she’s isn’t THE enchantress as the character. Similar to a Loki but not Loki. Part of me wishes she wasn’t even a Loki at all.

I like sylvie, she isn’t my all time fave, that’s a small tier tbh, but I do like her. It made me kinda sad the whole “superior Loki” thing but that’s the writers being messy tbh, her character shouldn’t suffer for that. I rly liked her scene in the field and at the Ren fairs. (I still want to know what happened when she used all the grenades things in the roxxmart) Most of her Stan’s are cool cats.

Only thing that makes me a little iffy are when amora and sylvie are pitted against each other by both sides of the fandom. I don’t like the “I’m better than you” trope in anything. Esp amongst women who that’s a reoccurring and demeaning theme. Which I understand a bit more why amora stans might feel that way. I think it’s a nervous possessive thing bc the comic fandom is so small and having amora be a partial inspo for sylvie feels like we might lose her, if the writers have her take Amoras name. That doesn’t excuse it and I personally don’t think they will take her mantle next season either. I think Sophia seems to have input and knows her character and her motives. I also don’t think we will ever see amora in the MCU, but I don’t think that’s necessarily sylvies fault. They are v different so it’d be possible still, and amora doesn’t need to be Lokis love interest if she was introduced. I think if she was going to appear it wouldve be in LOVE and thunder. Or ragnarok bc she was scourges partner for long.

Idk I’m neutral on sylvie being a Loki, I don’t see the point of her being the only woman Loki tho, since Loki is gender-fluid and all. And also ur telling me of so many universes there only one woman, and that’s “scary” I felt a little like that’s misogyny disguised as being progressive girl boss. Again that’s on the writers not on sylvie, she’s done nothing wrong lol. I feel like the romance would’ve made me less uncomfortable without her being a Loki but I also don’t see the chemistry. Ok ok Ik so many ppl r gonna disagree but I don’t see it in lokius or dashingfrost either personally. Which is just my opinion doesn’t mean it’s right or wrong. Lastly Idk why ppl want her as the mcu’s enchantress, maybe they’re expecting her to be? I tend to fixate on what’s canon explicitly in canon so idk but I don’t see anything suggesting her to be so. I also like her as her own character, there isn’t rly a set of rules sylvie has to follow i think Sophia has it under control

This question may be a bit late, but were you disappointed by how the BBC Merlin series ended? I'm asking because the fanfics you wrote (which I love and find incredibly painful) feature a lot of Arthur finding out about Merlin's magic, and Merlin questioning his role in Camelot. (I find the whole destiny thing a bit pointless because Arthur never does accept magic in Camelot, does he? Also, did he unite Albion?)

hi! honestly, yes, i am VERY disappointed and frustrated by the entirety of season 5 of merlin. ik it's supposed to depict how unquestioningly following destiny is a Very Bad Thing, and i think it did do that nicely not only with arthur's death, but also with merlin turning his back on every other magical entity (like mordred) by focusing only on arthur. but to better convey the theme, imo, the writers should have had merlin "disobey" destiny and confide in arthur abt his magic. we've already had 4 seasons of merlin hiding his magic, it's bad and toxic for everyone involved, we get it.

i don't rly find the destiny thing pointless, i just think merlin didn't follow it properly, especially since the prophecy or whatever never actually said shit abt keeping magic a secret. though i dont rly blame him; he's been living in fear his entire life and he was HEAVILY manipulated by both kilgharrah and gaius into keeping it under wraps. in fact, considering arthur and merlin are two sides of the same coin, it sounds like the prophecy WANTED merlin to confide in arthur.

but in the end, the real obstacle of the prophecy is arthur's bad characterization. he was opening up towards magic as early as episode 4, but it kept getting retconned in the next episode. i think if he had some actually decent continuity in his characterization he would have accepted magic and united albion with merlin at his side.

omg so glad you thought the same about twv!! I just finished and so many different parts of the last episode made me so mad, idk if they're trying for a season 6 (even after saying this is the finale) but I'm not going to listen anymore. if you have recs for similar podcasts i would rly love them

I’m so sorry you had to sit through that finale. And baiting a new show just. Doesn’t do anything for me. There are so many ways TWV fell short and didn’t follow through that there is absolutely no way that I believe another show by the same writers will do any better. So handshake through the screen, Anon; I am sharing and understanding your problem.

As for recommendations, I like horror podcasts, but I usually like cosmic horror and folk horror best—which is a slightly different flavor of horror usually? Also a lot of the horror that I like is in book form. But for podcast recs, You’ve probably heard all of the ones I like, but here are some ones that I did enjoy:

-The Silt Verses: folk horror. Only one season is currently out. You get a lot of religious trauma, evil capitalism, and mythology somewhere in between nielman and Old Gods of Appalachia. A lot of old gods and their religions have been banned by the government. Two disciples of one of these illegal gods, a river god, are traveling the river looking for evidence of their god’s miracles and existence. The god itself, like All of the gods in this world, is horrifying and requires human sacrifice, the two disciples are both serial killers; and the state-sanctioned gods and the police sent after these disciples are Even Worse.

-The Magnus Archives: Cosmic horror/horror tragedy. Everyone and their dog seems to have listened to this but yeah. I’ve listened to it at least 3 times through. Very very good at not answering every possible question but knowing what questions need answering and answering those. Favorite. Also, I enjoy that it is and was always intended to be a horror tragedy, but that one character became So Powerful in personality and beliefs that they changed the way the author wrote the end. And capitalism is evil.

-Old Gods of Appalachia: LOVE this one. Cosmic horror/folk horror anthology. Capitalism is Definitely Evil. Really, really good understanding of the people and culture it draws from—which makes it feel kind of like home. Lots of angry and powerful women, lots of nuance, fantastic environment, Yuri Lowenthal was there?

-Alice Isn’t Dead: Surreal horror/cosmic horror. Creepy Americana. A woman thinks her wife is dead and then starts to see her in the background on the news, and then becomes a truck driver for the company the wife worked for in order to search for her. A complete story with a beginning, middle, and end. Good at knowing which questions to answer. Capitalism is evil. Human beings are hard.

-Hello From the Hallowoods: This show is so /comforting/ despite the horrible things that happen in it that it’s almost strange to call it horror. But it still is. It’s just a very kind horror podcast. This is fantasy horror and cosmic horror. The world changed and began to end when a cosmic horror-type god (an Indescribable) who was then killed, introduced a black rain and black water that killed a lot of life and has altered the rest. The dead rarely stay dead; but they come back changed. There are Monsters in the poisoned world. And a lot of the monsters are just people. A lot of the human people are monsters in disguise. The generation that saw the black rain start is in late middle-age and the children were born into this world. There’s a Huge cast, pretty much every character is queer, pretty much every character is nuanced, and there’s So Much Religious Trauma. Also, capitalism is evil; most of North America (at LEAST) was run by a company whose goal is to have all humans become their ‘customers’ whose bodies are protected while their minds exist in a sort of shared-dream world that was heavily marketed even before the world ended. There’s a huge rotating cast (including undead romance, undead robots, demons trying to defect from Hell, a girl trying to rescue her disappeared girlfriend and her kidnapped-by-capitalism mom, an invisible man, a forest-based commune under attack by evolving frogs, and a sentient car). Everything is narrated by an Extremely Invested and extremely comforting Indescribable whose domain is Watching Everything.

-Welcome to Nightvale. Guys, the show has run longer than it should have. It ran into problems when it started to try to answer some of its many long-running questions that shouldn’t have been answered; and the answers were so much less compelling than the questions. It sort of ossified eventually. BUT. The first several years of this show? Were amazing. This is the Foundation of modern narrative podcasts, and the father of queer podcasts. It’s the reason this medium is so much more diverse than others. This is surreal horror/horror comedy. And the first several years give you an Incredible Environment, occasional real fear, and /The/ Narrator (you don’t GET Jon Sims or Nikigkik or even Doug Eiffel without Cecil Palmer! You just Don’t). I think everyone should listen to this show, at least all of the way through the Strex Corp arc. Capitalism is evil, community is everything.

Honorable Mentions go to:

-I am In Eskew: surreal horror/cosmic horror. Sometimes a person just ends up in this incredibly fucked-up city. This isn’t my favorite kind of horror. But. It was well-written, is a complete story, and it was interesting. It raised some questions that I thought were left too open-ended. But the main character’s arc was told so thoroughly and completely, that I’ll forgive it. The confusing and unfinished vibes are confused and unfinished and bigger-than-the-story like Neverwhere*. If Neverwhere was surreal horror about an environment/city/genius locus that wants to just completely break your mind. Capitalism is still evil.

-Wolf 359: Sci-fi horror/thriller. Starts off as an episodic sci-fi comedy with off notes. Becomes a horror-thriller. Not my favorite brand of horror; some of the plot gets a little convoluted for me; but I did really like the character work. Capitalism is still evil.

*Neverwhere is one of my favorite books ever though. So the vibe isn’t what I didn’t love. It’s just the genre

my sister was talking about wizard ghost book with me, and was like ‘I know there’s like 7 gay tragedies, but the most canon ones, the nice ones, (she was meaning wangxian and songxiao) both have the surviving person in the couple become the caretaker for the other one’s kid. And I really like that’

And she’s right. It’s a parallel I hadn’t noticed. You can’t not pay attention to LWJ raising WWX’s child while he’s dead. But Song Lan doesn’t just take the shattered fragments of his partner’s soul. He’s given (as if it’s the most natural thing to do) the shattered fragments of his partner’s kid’s soul too. And his stated goal is to safeguard both of them, take care of both of them, figure out a way to repair both of them get both of them back. He doesn’t have any promise he’s getting either of them; but he takes them both. He knew A-Qing for like 4 minutes before death, but that’s his kid now too.

you guys over here completely sold me on watching the complete Sing Again 2nd season, and I have to say, it seems like quite a unique show from where I'm standing? Not just the format of it but the production, stage design and even the edits seem very high quality, like a whole lot of work has been put into them equally for everyone and this is not all that common for survival type/judging shows I don't think. Which also brings me to, I wonder how the judges for this were chosen. I can't quite tell if Sing Again is popular in SK, I understand quite a bit of it from my limited Hangul, but dear me! It is such a lovely lovely atmosphere, and I was SO pleasantly surprised by this panel of judges actually having chemistry and working. I know Yoo Heeyeol from Sketchbook and Kim Eana of course - I feel like both almost always have the more poignant/seasoned remarks to make, but somehow the chemistry in the junior panel manages to keep up. I won't lie, I'm incredibly surprised by the inclusion of Mino and Sunmi over other potential candidates, from what I know neither of them are exactly considered creme de la creme in their respective fields, but I get the feeling at least for what I know of Sunmi that she is quite loved in variety/producer circles and that may go a long way. Still curious as to how exactly they were chosen though - was it popularity, skill or connections? I can see the skill aspect for Lee Haeri (whom I adore) not to of course diminish the rest of the junior panel, just wondering why them over say, Taeyeon. Either way I found that they all fell into a soothing pattern of judging/commenting that makes the show fun and easy yet impactful to watch. By the end of it I knew which judges would comment almost poetically, which ones would sit there in wonder, which ones were most likely to get emotional or scream UNNIE SARANG HAE lol. It really really works. And of course, the contestants. Wow. I feel so blessed to have known so many new artists. And so many genres too!!! Jazz included which I very rarely hear about in the k-music context. Anyways I'm sorry to have soliloquized in your inbox about the show. Just wanted to share and ask for some thoughts and thank you for introducing me to it. It has quickly shot to my favourites, I wonder if it will have a third season?

hello!! glad u enjoyed the show i rly like the atmosphere it's v comforting and heartwarming! singagain is extremely popular in skorea, esp in the first season the top 3 esp were completely household names like so much popularity they got a spin off variety show with a big budget and the top 10 r all booked for osts all the time. s2 was a hit too, i'm p sure s3 is already in the works but can't be sure until it's announced lol.

idk what u mean about mino and sunmi tho they're both like the top of their fields in the niche of like respected and seasoned multi entertainer. i don't like mino that much but he's extremely popular in sk and in demand for variety. sunmi is literally representative icon of second gen, equal with taeyeon that's why sunmi and tiffany were the 2 judges for girls planet 999. u need big names to balance out the legends on the panel like lee sunhee yoon dohyun yoon sang and yoo huiyeol. taeyeon is just busy as hell lmao and used to not rly do variety for a few years until amazing saturday and now queendom.

on s4 of my legend of korra rewatch and im still not rockin with asami im sorry

imo she is SO boring and somehow is a perfect combination of wasted potential mixed with being borderline completely unnecessary

and also in regards to her relationship with korra i think it is so flat. and it doesnt even have to be!!! they could have been SO interesting! but no they are so bleh to me

btw i havent read the comics and ive heard really great things about her and korra’s relationship so i’ll just take everyones word for it and i understand a lot of her and korra’s lack of chemistry in the show has to be chalked up to the writers not being able to do much bc its nickelodeon and i get that!

i just feel like 90% of the time when shes a point of focus (which is hardly ever btw. circling back to that “unnecessary” part) i just wanna YAWN. in s4 she has an interesting arc w her father but up until that point she just felt like such a filler person that i did not give a fuck about this suddenly interesting storyline! the show did not make me care ab asami so no im not gonna all of a sudden care after 3 seasons of blah!

i know im being a hating ass bitch but i just feel really strongly ab this.

i will say, in general i think the legend of korra struggles with keeping up w their characters and giving them relevant storylines while also keeping their relationships in tact so it would make sense that they all are still friends. like idk there were lots of times where i was like “ok mako and bolin being here/doing this is a stretch”. and i just feel this way the strongest w asami.

i think if atla didnt do this SO perfectly then it wouldnt seem as bad in tlok. but in atla i cannot think of a single time where any characters’ storylines or interactions w one another felt forced. it all felt so natural.

not even gonna tag the legend of korra bc i feel like ppl rly love asami and i dont wanna necessarily go out of my way to piss ppl off lol

11/13/2022 - Update

hiiiiii

i havent been on here in a min so i decided to do a little check in / update on where i’m at 

currently, i’m vaguely sick because i’ve been going out this entire week which was really fun but ultimately comes at a cost, i went to Rhein haus for the first time and it was cool i guess. i drank a rainier per usual

i was out with new friends again yesterday and it was fun, i love the imagery of house parties, and even just being a young adult in seattle, it’s always been something i’ve been inspired by since i was a little kid. i feel like when i first got there i really wanted to leave but i had a few shots and it was fun... i’m still unpacking what that means LOL never want to be too hypothetical/deep but my relation with my vices is interesting and wavering and i’m constantly learning about it each time i go out loll especially since my best friend has been sober for over like 100 days or something?

sometimes when im at work i really hate my job and know that i should and could be doing so much more.. but honestly i feel like everything beyond my life would feel very... baseless? and a waste if i don’t go through this slow season right now. i go to work a lot and get glimpses of what i know my life is going to be and how my art will be received one day and i genuinely get really happy i start tearing up.  i’ve spent a lot of years dimming my own light and feeling like i never deserved to even create a platform for means of celebration for myself... knowing how much i deserve this now it makes me 10x more hungry to keep hustling and keep refining my craft, and expanding on that

i met this girl who i’ll name Kayla who’s probably never gonna read this, but if you do im sorry lol (but not really bc you were lowkey mean when i first met you) but i remember walking into this guys apartment with her (i met her 10 mins before at my other friends apartment) and I feel like i already didn’t really connect with her because we had the dreaded conversation of being two people in their early twenties in proximity to the University of Washington-- are you at UW, what’s your major, etc etc. i have no problem telling people i actually dropped out of college to fully pursue my music career, but i never really go out of my way to say it and in fact i usually try to defer from even having that conversation to begin with. but anyway, after some prying i told her about my artist project and she seemed really dismissive and didn’t care.. and i brushed it off because i expect that from people that aren’t versed in this world-- i understand that not everyone cares about it so it’s whatever. so after this i’m like still trying to make conversation because we’re all just waiting for our friend to finish making our cocktails. and she goes, “oh, you’re trying to have a conversation! i’m really really good at small talk, like i do this for work all the time”

it’s funny because i feel like i’m somehow used to people diminishing me or making me feel small, but i feel like it says way more about Kayla than me as to the basis or assumption she made of my character just because i didn’t work some job in consulting/accounting as her like most of the people at that party (they were all rly nice tho) 

but the thing that gets me the most is that i know i’m super intuitive/emotionally intelligent and i express that through my art, and when we started drinking more, and Kayla was feeling more chatty, she started talking to me about her parents and her feelings towards that, and i feel like she appreciated me for listening

i empathize because i do not have the best relationship with my parents but this was just an example of how funny it is to me how small scale non creative people make art seem, when in reality you consume art all the time and you dont even know it... not trying to label a conversation or a trusting moment as art but.. it is and is relative to the way people see the world and why they make art to begin with

felt like she slapped me, then cried, then said thank you 

i dont take it too personally though just because ive been dealing with this for so long.. but to anyone out there who is in the beginning stages of their artist project like me... people are gonna misinterpret you on purpose, they’re not gonna fully see your own vision... but your whole life is never gonna be about trying to make them believe in you. i always felt like thats what it would be like and i honestly think that's why it took me so long to fully dive into my artist project. but now that i’ve let all that shit go, i’m honestly just really dedicated to showcasing my thoughts and emotions the most coherent and honest way i can. i feel like, i was born into a world without a choice, and am “forced” to live this life, so i really just want to be able to document it fully. i’ll leave you with one of my favorite mantras:

Thank you!! And it was the former, one of the backgrounds leads who was handling hiring for the studio found my work via portfolio day on twitter and e-mailed me cold LOL this tweet specifically.

They offered me a bg paint test, testing process took abt a week and then there was an interview and then I was hired..! Though out of the crop of new hires I was brought on with many of them were more proactive, getting in touch w staff via linkedin or alumni connections, asking around for apps and openings etc. Honestly I feel pretty lucky that they found my work because the studio wasn’t rly on my radar. For me, it was like a year out of recovery from a pretty bad health thing and i was feeling down about my art and tired of dead end job apps, preparing to move back to my parents house LOL... it rly came at the right time.

Thank you!! This is a hard question... I love every season and all the characters for different reasons. I guess.... Lake? Is my favorite character overall?? I just think she’s such a break-out star like if you had to have a infinity train character represent the series in super smash brothers it’d be her LOL. I think a lot of the characters of infinity train are products by their story but in the case of book 2 the story is a product of lake. but ALSO if you could mash Min-Gi and Ryan to count as a single character they might win out for my fave spot whos to say. their character push and pull is so subtle but endlessly fascinating and also i have asian diaspora feeling about them that cannot be discounted LOL. And I think overall my favorite season is actually book 3.... though 2 comes super close (And is maybe more better constructed from a technical perspective... imo)!! And I love 1 and 4 for their unique aspects as well like they’re all excellent stories in their own rights imo. It’s hard to compare.
