ATTENTION STAR VS THE FORCES OF EVIL FANS!
I need YOUR help!
Tumblr media
(Yes yours! I found a funny screenshot to get your attention and everything, see?!)
I'm putting together something about a certain character from the show while I work on the rewrite (with my good buddy @full-moon-phoenix who I'm sorry to tag-n-drag into this), and I need your help getting to the bottom of a mystery that might just help us all make sense of why the last season of the show was... you know... like that.
According to this bullet point from SVTFOE's What Could Have Been page on TV Tropes, the Season 3 finale was originally planned by Daron Nefcy and the team to be the series finale before the finale season was even green lit!
Tumblr media
However--as you may notice when checking the page yourself--unlike some of the other details on the page, this one had no citation or link to trace back to the original interview for evidence. (Typical TV Tropes.)
I'm going to try and find the interview myself but with all the things I have to juggle, and search engines being as crappy as they are now, there's no guarantee I'll actually find the damn thing.
THAT'S WHERE YOU COME IN!
It's nothing really. Basically I just need you guys to let me know in the comments or in a reblog if you know where this interview is from or if you can find it.
If not, feel free to signal boost.
OK NOW LET'S SEE IF THIS WORKS BYEEEEEEE!

I just finished Svtfoe. Season 4 episode 21, Cleaved.
I know plenty of people hate this season finale. This SHOWS finale but I don’t know how I feel about it. This entire season felt rushed and I know if they had just one more season I think the bad parts of s4 would’ve been made better because there’s good ideas there.
Like I don’t hate the Queen Moon betrayal. I think that if it had been properly set up it could have been good. Queen Moon hasn’t been for or against the changes Eclipsa. She’s just been amblivant to what’s been going on outside her yurt. I wish we had gotten to see her not be moved by helicopter hair, but rather had been swept up in her cause because she wouldn’t do anything. There’s plenty of people like that who get swept up, who don’t realize that doing nothing is a choice to. I definitely think that her actively making more super soldiers and playing an active roll was the wrong choice. It just came out of nowhere.
I also like the choice to get rid of magic. Magic in this universe is something that only the privileged really get. It’s seen as a status and as a tool that separates. I think putting people on the same pedestal was a good choice because even when both Moon and Star are normal people after having their royalty stripped of them people still see them as above them, it is in part because of that status brought to them by magic. I think this is especially obvious with Moon being constantly called Queen Moon. It’s not a cure all- it’s not meant to be- but it’s a way of taking away a platform for hate. To stop hurt from continuing to happen.
I also think the stakes for magic disappearing is appropriate for it. It’s the finale. Of course there has to be a downside from this and quite frankly I’m disappointed they didn’t go through with this. Instead going with the “all dimensions are fused now” thing. There’s a few reasons I think they should have ended it with that separation. 1) from the start of the season we knew Marco had to go home by the end. Heck at the start of the series we knew they would be separated. It feels like cheating that it kind of didn’t happen. 2) Star has grown a lot since the start of the show, I think the separation would show some character growth.

So I see this storyboard panel going about a lot lately as supposed proof Marco Diaz was meant to be trans. Which look, yes, this was the official storyboard panel but it is from the Season 4 episode of SVTFOE entitled “Ransomgram”. The crew of SVTFOE addressed the trans Marco theory at a CalArts panel during Season 3 where they expressed that;
1. Marco was intended to be a cis male character with feminine interests.
2. They were happy trans people could see themselves in Marco.
3. They would try not to disprove the theory.
The chances are, at most this storyboard panel was the crew just throwing the trans Marco side of the fandom a little bit of evidence for their theory but given what we know, it remains doubtful the plan was to make it canon. This particular episode was directed by Sabrina Cotugno who is trans masc themself (although they came out after the show) and would on occasion interact with the trans Marco tag on Tumblr.
Something I’m not sure of, is whether this colouring was intended for the final episode. It definitely didn’t make the final cut and I have asked Sabrina about this but haven’t received a response. I am remembering something about Sabrina though.
So back during Gravity Falls, there was an episode that featured Cupid which Sabrina Cotugno was a storyboard artist on. The pendant for the necklace, which Sabrina drew was the trans symbol. Disney changed this so it was an overlapping male and female symbol.
The above panel would serve as a pretty glaring confirmation of Marco being trans, especially with the already existent theory. While trans Marco wasn’t intended to be canon, I think it is pretty safe to assume that Disney may have censored the above storyboard based on past behaviour and what this colour choice would insinuate.
@marcodiazisatransgirl, thoughts?

Currently getting back into my Rhombulus Rewrite a bit, and oh god has it spread beyond just rewriting Rhombulus. Yes, I did make an ending to his story that fits with canon, but I also wanted to make a version of the finale that brings a legitimately satisfying end to his story. Part of the point of the rewrite was making him a more fleshed out character and even a major one, but without replacing Star as the protagonist. And it's hard to write an interesting ending to the character when the rest of canon is still shit.
Then I thought of an interesting idea that would result in tying Mina and Rhombulus together in a way, as well as connecting to one of the major themes of the show (and the rewrite). This caused me to add some changes to Mina during my rewrite.
Then things got a bit out of hand and it lowkey became the Rhombulus (and Mina) Rewrite. Then I realized that I couldn't rewrite Mina without rewriting some of the main plot for Season 4. Then I finally decided "fuck it, let's just rewrite the majority of the finale and much of the plot of Season 4. We'll keep some of the stuff we already changed and the episodes we still kept, but the whole Mina subplot will need to be completely reconstructed from the ground up."
Next thing I know, I'm writing out multiple scenes that have nothing to do with Rhombulus and I'm crying over Mina's new death scene.
God I am so excited to release my next proper Rhombulus Rewrite post.

which way, Western Cartoonist?
The second batch of my takes on modern animation based on the “which way, Western Cartoonist?” tweet!
Included in this 2nd volume are...
Steven Universe can can-can better than Grizz! Oh wait; he wasn’t even trying ( SU fan art by @mikepelensky )
Bro Brawl props that’re like the storyboard artists tried imitating the Gangreen Gang and Johnny Bravo in the contemporary woke beanmouth/rubberhose anime style.... *cringe*
A lesson in construction and appeal when it comes to LGBTQIA+ characters in the woke beanmouth cartoons that’re grown popular since the days of Gravity Falls...
Clearly the people running Star vs. the Forces of Evil after Season 1 lost interest in being as cartoony and expressive as David Wasson & Mercury Filmworks made them. Marco’s swallowing poses look way more horrific than Eclipsa’s!
Uh... you know how Cartoon Network used to play that Crazy Frog “Axel F” music video during Tickle U?

What is Mina scheming?😟😟😟 btw little reminder: all these pages where Moon is having a meeting with Mina and the MHC happened the day before Tom breaks up with Star, that's why portals are still working in my comic "Sad Teen Hotline": because Moon (after seeing Star and Tom's photos) asked for one more day to make a decision :')

Hey!!! UWU i enjoy your art and theories. May I ask how you got into svtfoe??
Hewwo! :3 Thank you, I really appreciate it! and thanks for the ask! I've been a huge fan of svtfoe since it came out, it's a really fun show and I relate a lot to Star's hyperactivity, but I wasn't as obsessed about it then as I am now. That happened after watching season 4 in 2019 and found out about the real life book of spells, then I was absolutely hooked by the lore. I started writing theories the same year, but not really sharing them until next year on my facebook page, then years later I made this blog. Sorry, I started rambling a little, here, have this sketch of Festivia and her daughters

thanks for visiting this blog UWU ❤

Cartoon scale from "we must kill all magic" SVTFOE to "bring back magic and spread it" SPOP
It's very strange that Star Vs wanted to kill all the magic, it was an edgy outcome and the exact opposite of the episode where Star came back to life. The killing magic logic doesn't even work in itself, because apparently magic creates inequality, but honey, so many things create inequality. The mewmans aren't going to leave monsters alone forever. I get they spent a good season and a half villainizing the magical council for some reason but come on, seriously no solution other than killing all magical beings and magical portals???? Especially since it seems Mewnie itself got portal merged with Earth in a horrifying way.
Like, the show's politics by that stage seemed so angry about something. A lot of spite happening. There's plenty of real life analogies to compare it to that would induce spite, but I don't think any of them are fitting here. Authority....? Is it worth "killing the magic" to give a middle finger to monarchy? Can't you, instead, give magic to everyone? That would be cool!!! EVERYONE getting powers. Therefore people like Mina have no power over anyone else. That's more of what Spop went for, magic as a symbol of freedom of expression and freedom from control.
Something else is, a whole bunch of disgruntled mewmans went to Moon for help, then she superbuffed them with magic for. Some stupid reason. What a horrible character butchering. She endangered her own daughter and for what?
All of this overshadows some of the sweeter moments of Star, such as the aforementioned death and revival at the start of season 3. That entire arc was Star at its peak. And the mother-daughter relationship with all its complexities.
A petty issue I have with Star is she is very ADHD at the start and by the end of the show she's completely "grown out" of it (aka it was crushed out of her). As if it was mere childishness and she has to become a normal boring adult now.
I was very happy when in Owl House, they directly addressed this part of Luz... the crushing of her neurodivergent spirit... and her mother tells her it's all okay to be weird and wonderful and then in the final battle she uses her super self insert furry goth OC powers to annihilate Belos.
THAT shit would make Adora proud too. In season 5, theres a few eps where Adora basically does what the hell what she wants, and Entrapta is also doing what the hell she wants, and it's so liberating for me.
Amphibia exists in a weird spot where, they kill the magic but not in as horrible a way as Star Vs, more so the characters go back to their normal lives. The kicker here was that they fell out and stopped hanging for 10 years for,... some reason? In this day and age? I've known one of my friends since I was 4 years old, and we are still very closet today at the age of 27!!! The rest of our friends we've been with for over 10 years!!!

Hmmm, thoughts on Rasticore?
Canon:
Edgy man who really should've been more interesting than he was. I don't actually like him that much for reasons that are entirely not his fault. I just resent him because he is one of the few prominent monster characters, and yet he's... pathetic, evil, and most well-known for regenerating badly. He's yet another monster character who is thoroughly uninterested in his own oppression, and yet another septarian who is evil because septarians are just So Evil, Guys, Just Look At Them.
I headcanon he's still friends with Toffee, though it's become more distant, as Toffee never really forgave him for running away after Moon's spell.
Why does he have a robotic arm and more importantly why did they arbitrarily get rid of it in season 4. What the heck.
Fanon (my AU specifically):
I did the exact opposite of what the svtfoe writers did with him. He's cool, competent, and deeply invested in freeing the monsters of Cítalaoléy. He is everything Toffee is fighting for, and in fact the reason Toffee fights at all: he brought Toffee out of a fifty-year slump after the Great Monster Massacre by teaching them guerilla warfare.
He's more bloodthirsty than Toffee; while Toffee is all about coercing Mewmans into doing exactly what they want, Rasticore will just kill the Mewmans and do it himself.
He is very competent and dangerous in a battle, though he never was any good at magic. He's as clever as Toffee, it isn't a clear Brains vs Brawn dynamic, but he's also not formally educated and had to learn Septarian on his own. Toffee is a better fighter than him, but he is more creative. It's a very "smart kid who doesn't understand how they're not winning against me as fast as expected/me who's been eating the pieces while they're not looking" dynamic. Now, given that it's Toffee we're talking about, that is very much a testament to Rasticore's creativity than it is Toffee's inability to think outside the box.
That being said, Toffee is very much a loner, so even though Rasticore could be really helpful in their schemes, they don't include him in things anywhere near as often as they really should.
Rasticore's one weakness is a tendency to forego practicality for stuff that looks cool. His cape, his dimensional chainsaw, a robotic arm that sacrifices some functionality for the ability to grow spikes, etc. Toffee teases him mercilessly for all of this, especially the cape, but also works to keep him safe despite this, such as making his dimensional chainsaw actually start the first time the cord is pulled. Rasticore still keeps and occasionally takes the counterfeit versions with him as disposable in a pinch.
Rasticore and Toffee have been together for centuries, but there's always something getting in the way of them just talking about if they want to get married or have some kind of concrete future. Of course, by the time they'll be able to talk about that, there won't be much of a future ahead of them. Rasticore tries not to be resentful of that fact.
Rasticore knows it's not fair, and it's the opposite of what she'd want, but he does kind of blame Mewmans for Cíaxoch's death. If it wasn't for...

Season Pitches and Greenlighting - What Occurs First?
Eight and a half years have passed since Disney decided to cancel Wander Over Yonder, one week before the premiere of The Greater Hater. As most of us know, the WOY crew had a third and final season planned out before Disney turned it down (for reasons that might have to do with favoritism). Lately, I’ve been wondering if other shows had their own season pitches before those seasons were granted. Take Star vs. the Forces of Evil for example. By exceeding two seasons while still being almost entirely exclusive on Disney XD, that show defied all odds. Did the crew have Seasons 3 and 4 planned out before Disney let them get made, though? If it was the other way around, that would explain why SvtFoE fans didn’t like 3 and 4 as much as they liked 1 and 2.
Also, I know The Owl House got cut short due to it “not fitting the Disney brand,” yet it still got a third (and certainly final) season with just 3 40-minute episodes. The fact that WOY didn’t get that kind of privilege tells me that the executives felt WOY didn’t fit the brand as well as TOH, Fish Hooks, SvtFoE, Big City Greens, or Amphibia did. They could not be more wrong, and I don’t think the crews for those shows ever had to try their hardest to convince Disney to let the shows have a third season (and beyond).
Any thoughts on the subject?
