[yoongi x jimin]
silent running by Sharleena (1/1 | 41,668 | E)
Taehyung nods with a small smile, squeezing Jimin’s hand back. “You too. If you do runs again with Min Yoongi, be careful. Heard they’re upping patrols in the inner rings too.” Jimin scoffs. “Don’t worry, I’m never running with that guy again. He’s fucking crazy.” He clicks his tongue. “Doesn’t even use his glasses. He memorizes distances.” “God,” Taehyung groans. “He’s so hot.” “Oh, shut up.”
or, the inherent homoerotism of delivering encrypted info in a dystopian society by jumping from roof to roof.

This video had a HUGE inspiration (no pun intended) for me to draw this. I’m obsessed as fuck with it. I’m really not in the mood to do my damn schoolwork… I’d rather do this…

Some fascinating new books blur the lines between utopia and dystopia right now. I reviewed five of them for the @washingtonpost!
If you're wondering why we have so many dystopias and so few utopias, this is for you. Paywall-free link: wapo.st/3OEXuxF
I reviewed books by Kiersten White, @temioh, Nick Fuller Googins, SL Huang and @tkingfisher. I really wanted to include the pun, "people ask why there aren't more utopias," but apparently they thought nobody would get that joke!

Summary for Utopia/Dystopia: The Trollhunter—an ill-fitting changeling—, now trapped in the Darklands, snared and brought before Gunmar The Vicious, is accursed to the same rock cage, the same stone quarry, the same endless bloodbath, the same scorching glare, the same sun-less verdict, the same viceral nature as he had once been forged in all those centuries ago. ...Well...almost the same.
STRICKLAKE MONTH IS FINALLY HERE BOIS OH YES YES YES GIVE ME MORE OF MY DORKS IN LOVE
I've been waiting around for August since the first time I saw stricklake month was a thing last year (which was coincidentally very recent into my re-obsession with the show and Strickler and Barbara in particular) so to say I'm excited to participate this year is an understatement.
I may be going overboard in a lot of places. But it's fineeeee
I'm going to try to do all four prompts (I'm undecided if I'll do both art AND writing for each but be sure I'll at least do one of the two for any given week it's the curse of being both a writer and artist, I must bear it) so here's week 1's prompt in writing form! Utopia/Dystopia! Because I didn't realize you needed to pick one! And not both! But I technically did more Utopia so!

Roman emperor Vic au
Gained recognition on the battlefield for sneaky and underhanded and brutal tactics and eventually took the throne
It actually kind of fits. It's not like that era or region shyed away from .. uh, vics preferred style of establishing dominance over an apprentice.
-🕯
oh yeah that fits him. In most royal-type AUs Vic would prefer to be an advisor or general and stay out of the spotlight, but being someone in political power in an ancient rome-type world just suits him
Sahota as his champion fighter who never really leaves his side

I read up on Years and Years by Russell T. Davies, and now I want to die.
Not because of the series necessarily, it was really good, but god, there is no hope. Populism is rising, seas are rising, fascism is rising. No way out.

Hi, and happy WBW to you! (as usual I am @writeblr-of-my-own). How is society organised in your world? Who is in a high place socially and why? How differently are treated people in a lower position?
Happy Worldbuilding... Sunday? Yeeeah that checks out.
(I forgot my inbox existed for like a week)
Obviously, I will answer about the dystopia WIP, because it's like this ask was made for it!!
There's a few countries in this world but only two have social hierarchies that are really relevant to the plot. The others are just "place where character is from", mostly.
Also, I finally named the countries!!!! After centuries of being undecided on names!! (not that these will be 100% permanent but at least they exist)
Ok, so first up is Bertenaut (the country based on Louis XIV-era France). It's a totalitarian dictatorship that looks a lot like a monarchy, having a ruling figure that's kind of undefined and non-human. The upper class is made up of people with more social power (like famous people or people whose power comes from birthright). The lower classes are of course, anyone who does not fit into this category.
The upper and lower classes kinda exist in separate "bubbles" and there's little interaction aside from looking at each other from a distance. Keeping them both in the dark about each other keeps them in line. Bertenaut is all about the control of information.
To be honest, Bertenaut is still a work in progress and I feel like it's gonna be a "figure it out as you go along" kind of thing because it's only really central to one bit of the story.
Now, onto the country where the main story is set.
Kolya (based on 19th century Portugal and Imperial Russia - a weird mix, I know) is something like a corporocracy, which basically means that corporations = the government.
The upper class in Kolya is basically just the rich. There's not really any more to it. You can ascend the social order by becoming rich and do the opposite by becoming poor. Both of these things happen to two characters at different points in the story. There kinda is an element of birthright, but that's because children inherit their parents' companies and not because of some percieved god-given merit.
So the thing about Kolya is that everything costs money. Public services provided by the government don't exist: all schools are private, the army is for-profit, there are parts of cities you need to pay to leave and enter, etc. So, this often ends up with poor people not being able to get these things. Out of all the 6 lower-class Kolyan characters in the story, only 2 can read, and only one was able to afford schooling.
Debtor's prison is very much a thing, especially in healthcare debt because it's such a necessary thing for, you know, being alive and all. Basically, when you go into really big debt, you can choose to "sell yourself" to the company you owe money to (you can also do this voluntarily and it is, in fact, how the military works in this story). You can work off your debt, but you basically become the company's slave while you're doing that. And if you don't pay your debt you can end up in jail.
There are ways to get healthcare (and other stuff) without going to these companies - for example, the Smoke Market district, which got its name from being covered in factory chimney smoke all the time, is home to a lot of these unofficial, back-alley ways, which are sometimes the best option. Veo and her brother Viktor make the more mechanic counterfeit stuff, like prosthetics, and Veo mentioned that one of her ex-girlfriends was an unlicensed pharmacist.
(I'm focusing a lot on healthcare because the main character's "older brother", Nester Kalenev, owns the main healthcare company, so it shows up a lot)
I was gonna nerd out about the 19th-century Portugal part here, relating to urbanism, but I realuzed this is interesting to me only and that it doesn't matter to the questions in the ask, so I might make a separate post one day. I'll also make another post explaining all the countries one day, because I want to yeet that information out into writeblr bc I love it.
