WITNESS (II/VIII)
cw: horror, violence, abuse. Read from the beginning here.
Out of sight, she threw the cloak back, revealing her kit. She had scoured black marketeers throughout the settlement for suitable attire to cross the Void, but it was a makeshift affair. A worn charcoal jacket hung over daintily patterned streetclothes through a broken zipper. A messenger bag with rushed seamwork to keep the strap from snapping under its hefty contents. Odds and ends from every corner of the Asterism; Floodlander mud boots; a Bloodstar military belt buckle, three-star insignia and all; an unlit oil lamp dangled from her hip, its reservoir shimmering with a deep crimson fuel. Gardening gloves stuffed with warm cotton. A covering of ornate white silk over her face. Everything felt foreign and pre-owned, like it wasn’t hers. Except the sword. The sword was hers.
Now.
No time to waste. Moving in hastened silence, the ground seemed to crumble beneath her boots, like thin snow with no footprints. In and out of cover, low to the ground, running along blindspots. Between outcrops, pausing, trying to guess where in the movement schedule the sentries were. Every time she passed back into the open, her heart leapt. Had she forgotten a step in their patrol? Already, she was a quarter mile from the walls, at least. The flats around the Commune grew heaved and jagged. More and more to block sight from the men on the wall. Doubtful their roughened muskets could strike her from this distance at all.
Now, a larger cliff stood before her, eclipsing the Moon. Lightless maws carved into its surface with uneven shapes and edges. She readied the lamp, lighting the reservoir. Keeper’s Blood, painstakingly imported from the Floodlands, and decidedly brighter than marginal Commune fuel. Its burn began with a flash, blinding her for a moment, and she stepped forward in disorientation. The cavern was painted with a warm glow of sunset, but it clung to its pitch shadows wherever it could. Far behind her, a musket shot snapped the crisp silence, hitting nothing. The flash had been noticed, but they would not follow. As commotion spread across the walls, she ventured inwards.
The echoes in the still air stopped at the cave mouth. It was a long, meandering passageway, with smooth weathered walls but no water to shape them, morphing almost organically as they cut through the landscape above. Sometimes, an enclosed cavern lit only by the lantern’s flickerless, unnaturally constant flame, casting strange amber reflections on the polished surfaces. Sometimes, the roof opened into a ravine, just barely touched by moonlight. Sometimes, the floor opened, through to the underside of the plane. To an abyss with no stars, and no echoes but from the walls. Just careful footsteps, deep breathing, and silence inbetween.
Silence was different here. The woman had sat in a hundred of the Commune’s quiet foyers, lounges and smoking rooms. Lined with stucco, carpeted with carpets. They sucked the sound out of you – a dampened, echoless silence broken only by ticking clocks and soft footsteps from behind walls. Whisperers spent most of their time indoors, shutting out any skulking echoes or shafts of moonlight that snuck by the outer walls. Every peer she spoke to gushed about the calm, and the quiet, and the respite from the alien world around them. She had always hated it. It was oppressive, suffocating. Your every move was crushed into a barely noticeable hush. Places like this lightless cave were what she had scrambled to escape to since childhood. Exploring every street and alley of the Commune, cataloguing every tiny adventure. Hiding journals and drawings from father’s scrutiny. Now, it was time to graduate into true, trailblazing ambition. This was a different silence – ready to be broken. Her covered face smiled, and she laid a hand on the sword’s hilt.

One plug post and then I'll shut up
Thought I'd take a break from throwing literature onto a project blog and actually use Tumblr like a normal person.
I am posting the link to this blog exactly once and then not plugging it again (though I will probably rant about it). It's called Tales from the Asterism and mostly consists of me forwarding correspondence from a smuggler dude living in a multiple-realm celestial fantasy world, but I adapted one of his writings into a short horror story called WITNESS and will probably make more, fun times you should read it ok shutting up

for aster, 7. for bors ff, 15. for marrok, 19. for naoise!
|| Weirdly specific muse questions ; accepting!
|| 1. What's the lie your character says most often?
Tumblr media
For Aster it's usually... "I'm fine". Any time he says that he's lying, and it can be about anything. He was the youngest out of his siblings and developed the habit to keep from having any kind of harsh criticism aimed his way. And now as a street performer... Well, he tends to get hurt a lot practicing new stunts. Or when someone objects to being made a part of his shows for whatever reason. Best to not let anyone worry too much about him, though!
|| 7. What would you (mun) yell in the middle of a crowd to find them? What would their best friend and/or romantic partner yell?
Tumblr media
Me personally? I'd yell that I need a doctor. Bors (FF) may be an utter bastard with the face of an angel but he still cares about people enough to come running if someone is hurt. Such is the way of being a healer. As for what Gwalchmei would have to yell... Honestly if he yelled at all Bors would rush to his side regardless of the crowd.
|| 15. What’s the most obvious difference between their behavior at home, at work, at school, with friends, and when they’re alone?
Tumblr media
When he's around his fellow KotR and any version of King Arthur? Marrok is the perfect knight (or dog depending on his form at the moment). Well-behaved, polite, honest... All the things he isn't when he gets to be on his own or around people that aren't his KotR. That's when he shows that he may be fae royalty... But he's royalty of fae beasts.
|| 19. What would they do if stuck in a room with the person they’ve been avoiding?
Tumblr media
Depends on which of the people he's been avoiding but inevitably it'd be a fight. A nasty fight. Naoise has specifically only been avoiding other Heroic Spirits from Ulster because the Madness Enhancement that comes with being an Avenger makes him hate all of Ulster.

How is the cult from Midsommer white supremacist? Because they are swedish and borrow from paganism? The nazis appropriated Norse culture, they even misused different runes and symbols, and Scandinavia is one of the most tolerant regions in Europe.
There's Nazi imagery throughout the film, & the fact that all the poc die first is no mistake. Ari Aster himself has said that the Harga are White Supremacists:
Defying an outdated horror trope, Aster does not kill off Josh (William Jackson Harper) — the only black character for miles — first. As Aster points out, though, the Hårga are racist, a callback to “a part of Swedish history and European history,” and all of the “outsiders” or “new blood” recruited for mating are purposely white.
“He’s thrown away in a way that the other members of the main cast are not," Aster notes. “And that is because these people have no further use for him.”
The Harga, when not inbreeding with each other, go out and groom new members to either 1. Be sacrified or 2. Introduce new genes by manipulating people into the cult or drugging & raping them (what they did to Dani & Christian), & they ONLY pick white people for this. There are no nonwhite Harga & that's not an accident.
The script also makes it crystal clear that the nonwhite couple were specifically chosen (bc they are not white) & brought there to be sacrificed & were never going to live. The member that brought the nonwhite couple displays hatred & malice towards them when they're not looking, but doesn't do this with the other white outsiders
Tumblr media
(Ingemar is the Harga that brought Connie & Simon, the nonwhite couple). Connie & Simon didn't do anything wrong, they didn't do anything outright to insult the Harga. The only thing they did was be shocked about seeing the ritual suicide & express desire to leave (and they weren't the only ones who did this, Dani also did). And yet they were some of the first to die.
Even the visuals-- the Harga wear all White, it's always in blinding daylight. Whiteness is a GLARING theme. There's also foreshadowing early on in the film, where a book titled "The secret Nazi language of the Uthark" featured in Christian's room just before they go to Sweden.
There's also other Nazi ideology present within the Harga, such as the strict gender roles (the women all wear dresses & cook & clean & care for the children together but the men butcher the bear together), eugenics & ableism (the elderly are killed off at a certain age because they see disability & needing to be cared for as an elder "shameful", which is what one Harga states at the ritual suicide scene, & of course killing off the nonwhite characters), the "return to tradition" ideology (there are NO modern technology in the community, & it's in the countryside).
You see a cult full of ONLY White people, using Norse paganism (something VERY popular with Nazis) in an isolated area, who routinely murder poc, don't intermix with poc, kill off their elderly, Dani (the blonde, light eyed white girl) is praised for her beauty & made their May queen by the Harga, with strict gender roles, & this film was made by a JEWISH MAN to show the Harga as the bad guys, & you don't have a hunch that the Harga are maybe supposed to be white supremacists/nazis? That doesn't raise any red flags for you?
& let's not forget how Scandanavia committed genocide against the Saami, the Indigenous population who were there for hundreds of years before anyone else. That's a little off topic, but as a First Nations Canadian I aint gunna let that just go unacknowledged. Scandanavia has a white supremacy problem too, & Ari Aster is right for pointing it out

Okay I have had this theory for months but I never actually laid it out before now. However it's well past time I actually do that considering episode 115 all but confirmed its truth (theres still wiggle room for me to be wrong, but honestly not much)
THE FERIN FAMILY ARE AASIMAR, AND HERES WHY:
The thing that originally made me go Hey Wait A Damn Minute was the visions of the original prophecy and its history that gillion got from that tree: "Another flash, and you see these red-haired olympian looking humans and elves and all kinds of different races that are flying with their own wings". And I heard that and thought about how much that sounds like aasimar, and then the weird dreams jay had and then captain widow insisting she has powerful blood and then star saying she sensed divinity on jay and then the whole ferin family's affinity for fire magic and everything just clicked into place.
Then in episode 114 we got the recording of Faye Ferin saying "hail the solar mother" and i was like no fucking way- BUT i set it aside because it felt like I could be reaching with that evidence. It could just be a religious phrasing, not necessarily something literal.
Then episode 115 happened and I got confirmation of my theory.
Grizzly doesn’t outright say "yes the ferin are aasimars”, but he gives us all the last few pieces of the puzzle.
Here's a link to the episode that should start where the confirmation is - the two tablets: https://youtu.be/M9ig9XCUrvU?si=oYdisYFxTqx6ogbb&t=868
Transcript of the tablets: Tablet One: Shards of the divine, these words are for you and you alone. We are descendants of the sun. Thus, we are the light - the beacon that will eradicate the dark. We are the flame to which all will yield. We are the shining justice that will always prevail. Our steps illuminate the way forward and our hands spark the tales of history. Tablet Two: Shards of the divine, these words are for you and you alone. Know your kin, recognized by the manes of flickering flame, wings that rival dragons, the golden suns in our eyes. Unity is the key to prosperity. Our elders will raise generations that burn with vigorous radiance.
NOW ON TO MY EXPLANATION!!
The thing that confirmed it outright for me is literally the line "We are descendants of the sun", because there are no ifs ands or buts about it - aasimar are descended from celestials. The aasimar entry for Monsters of the Multiverse states "Whether descended from a celestial being or infused with heavenly power, aasimar are mortals who carry a spark of the Upper Planes within their souls." the tablet Jay stole from her grandmother is written in celestial, and says they are descended from the sun(aster), ergo, descended from a celestial.
Next up is the whole "Thus we are the light - the beacon that will eradicate the dark. We are the flame to which all will yield. We are the shining justice that will always prevail." bit. The entry for Protector Aasimar (the subrace i believe Jay fits best) in Volos Guide to Monsters reads "Protector aasimar are charged by the powers of good to guard the weak, to strike at evil wherever it arises, and to stand vigilant against the darkness."
Then there's "Our steps illuminate the way forward and our hands spark the tales of history." Which then in the MotM entry it says "aasimar are mortals who carry a spark of the Upper Planes within their souls. They can fan that spark to bring light, ease wounds, and unleash the fury of the heavens."
THEN THERES THE REAL FUCKING GIVEAWAY!!! THIS LINE: "Know your kin, recognized by the manes of flickering flame, wings that rival dragons, the golden suns in our eyes."
MotM says "They resemble their parents, but … often have features that hint at their celestial heritage." and VGtM says "They are a people of otherworldly visages, with luminous features that reveal their celestial heritage."
OF THE CELESTIAL FEATURES OPTIONS OFFERED BY MOTM, ENTRY 2 IS "METALLIC, LUMINOUS, OR DARK EYES" AND ENTRY 3 IS "STARKLY COLORED HAIR". THE FERINS ARE WELL KNOWN FOR HAVING BOTH.
The tablets are, of course, not my only evidence.
the ferins arent born with The Ferin Eye as revealed by Jay having to earn hers and Drey talking about when he got his. "now icarus," i hear you say "wouldnt that mean they dont actually fit the celestial features requirement?" and to that i answer "NO! IT IN FACT FITS IT BETTER!"
In discussing aasimar celestial features, MotM says "These [features] often begin subtle and become more obvious when the aasimar gains the ability to reveal their full celestial nature." Jay didn’t have the Ferin eye until she earned it and its subsequent abilities. And we all remember how she earned it, right?
A weird ass fucking dream.
Now let’s look at that. According to VGtM “An aasimar, except for one who has turned to evil, has a link to an angelic being. That being … provides guidance to the aasimar, though this connection functions only in dreams. As such, the guidance is not a direct command or a simple spoken word. Instead, the aasimar receives visions, prophecies, and feelings.”
In Jay's first sun dream (Juice Roll With It // Episode #88), Grizzly describes the sun and says "You feel like its presence is trying to reach you. And as you notice, you feel almost like you want it to.”
And then the core of the dream itself:
Grizzly: “Do you think Jay can withstand this impossible heat of the sun as you get just barely one step closer?” Condi: “I’m gonna say no… but she would try anyways, if that is, like, what the feeling is kinda giving her, you know?” Grizzly: “This powerful presence, as hot as it is - you can’t help but think of your sister. You can’t help but think of your friends. But then, you think of your mother, and then you think of your father, and then you think of your grandmother” (makes condi roll con save with disadvantage, condi got an 11) “with an 11, you take that step forward, but this overwhelming pressure, anxiousness, fear, handcuffs your spirit, closes your mind, and you just feel the heat of the sun overcome you. And you are jolted awake back in the reality. … but you know that in this dream you lost. You lost to the heat.”
Then the second dream (Happy Wife Happy Life // Episode 102), where the sun is hotter and larger than before and excruciatingly painful:
Grizzly: “You just can’t help but stare at it with both eyes wide open. And behind you you feel another heat.” (Condi asks if Jay can see this heat or if Jay is too focused on the sun) “You know that this heat signifies that backing away and falling is not an option this time. But as you look at the sun, you once again think about your family: your mother, who said she was sick; your father, who called you naive; your grandmother, who threatens the safety of your friends. You think of your friends. So I ask again, this time: do you think Jay can withstand that heat? That pressure and that fire?” Condi: “I think as Jay is staring up at this sort of immense fireball that represents… obviously her pressure, and she feels that heat at her back… I don’t think she would look at the heat as, like, something preventing her from stepping back and falling anymore. But in this metaphorical sense - since a lot of this is a metaphor - she’d probably look at it as what she basically can’t turn her back on, what she can’t leave behind. Basically like her new hope. You know, what she wants to protect. So she’s in between this and this giant fireball. Um. And I think with that in mind she would take a step forward and, um. While maybe not fully confident in herself, she would jump into the fireball with all her might, doing her best. ... I think she can handle it. She thinks she can handle it.” Grizzly: “Fair enough. That’s all I asked. You jump in- go ahead and roll a con save with advantage.” (Condi got a 19) “You leap with almost like a raging fire of conviction even if you doubt yourself, jay. And the sun almost seems to open up to welcome you in. And at first, the searing pain of the fireball’s heat feels like it’s melting your skin. You scream until it feels like it’s melting away that doubt. And then, all of the pain subsides. There’s a calming sense that kind of overtakes, jay, in your subconscious. And it’s all white at this point - your whole vision.”
So the sun reached out to jay through a dream, as aasimar’s celestial links tend to do, and gave her a test of strength that she had to figure out for herself (“as such, the guidance is not a direct command or simple spoken word. Instead, the aasimar receives visions, prophecies, and feelings.” - VGtM). She only passed it by remembering she had people she needed to protect (“Protector aasimar are charged by the powers of good to guard the weak, to strike at evil wherever it arises, and to stand vigilant against the darkness.” - VGtM). And when she passed this test given to her in a dream: “speaking of your vision, you begin to feel a warmth behind one of your eyelids. And the next day comes as you’re the first to wake at the very crack of dawn. The sun rises, and you rise with it. And you blink a few times - you feel something different. … This time, you look into a mirror and, just like your dad, just like Drey, you see this bright orange glowing eye on one of the sides. And you feel whatever that was: you passed it.”
This, therefore, perfectly fits Jay into the aasimar’s celestial features description that “these [features] often begin subtle and become more obvious when the aasimar gains the ability to reveal their full celestial nature.” Jay had to prove herself to the goddess to earn another celestial trait.
And once more, “Icarus!” I hear you cry. “You keep saying Jay fits the Protector Aasimar subrace, but don’t Protector Aasimar have incorporeal wings that come from their celestial heritage? Jay’s wings are from a tattoo! That doesn’t work!” To which I say, “Are you sure?”
The Protector Aasimar’s subrace ability is called Radiant Soul and allows the aasimar to “unleash the divine energy within yourself, causing your eyes to glimmer and two luminous, incorporeal wings to sprout from your back.”
Jay’s wings come from enchanted tattoos with which she can cast Fly. These were a deliberate choice Jay made and are not celestial in origin. However, in the first sun dream, when Jay reaches out for the sun Grizzly says “You begin to feel the tattoo on your upper back sting.” When condi asks to clarify if it’s the Niklaus tattoo, Grizzly only says “Just the upper back.”
This, of course, leads me to believe that those dreams will or already have affected her wings in some way - perhaps leaving space for her to unlock more of her celestial heritage and power as she earns it. It’s something we’ll just have to watch and see for.
Either way the Ferins are aasimar, Jay's gonna be the first one in generations to earn their true celestial power from Aster, and i will Die On This Hill

RIPTIDE THEORY!!!!!!
SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS IN GENERAL
Have you ever wondered why Chip, Jay, and Gillion—a wannabe pirate, a soldier in training, and the champion of the Undersea, respectively—form such a fucking random assortment of people? The only thread connecting them seems to be their association with the Black Rose members.
Their meeting feels like destiny, doesn't it?
What if I told you it's not destiny at all, but rather the aftermath of Captain Rose's failed deal with Niklaus?
Join me on my yapping as I put together a theory that I wrote in my notes app at 4 in the morning!
Tumblr media
Firstly, let's look at everything in a grand scale of things.
I believe that the world of Mana, at its core, is fuelled by desire that got corrupted by the darkness that slithered its way from the abyss into this world. For millennia or centuries, these same desires have driven its cycles, repeating history in one way or another, compelling many generations to follow suit to ensure the safety of their world. Keeping the darkness at bay.
What if I told you that the prophecy isn't solely about Gillion? Instead, it’s about thousands of other chosen ones over centuries, all destined for the same purpose: to protect, to fight, and to avenge the darkness.
The descendants of Aster, children of the sun, were also born to always follow the same mission— to seal away the darkness.
Tumblr media
Regarding the descendants of elemental casters, it's VERY speculative since we don't know enough about them. However, I believe they were destined to control the darkness, to take hold of it.
And for as long as this entity, this darkness, had such an effect on Mana, they joined forces to seal it away and safeguard their world.
But what if those cycles of history get suddenly shattered? Perhaps due to an unfulfilled deal, or maybe a deal never meant to be fulfilled… What if one of the descendants of the sun, blessed by Aster, who was meant to seal the darkness away, inadvertently unleashed it? Causing a disturbance in the universe, so violent and so unpredictable that it changes everything?
Tumblr media
This disruption could make those united against the darkness to turn on each other, inadvertently allowing the darkness to thrive.
Rather than sealing the darkness, the descendants of the sun are harnessing it for destruction.
Instead of engaging in battle, the Tritons have retreated to the ocean's deepest depths, selecting a sacrificial lamb who would single-handedly play the role of a protector and bear the burden of this fight alone.
While the knowledge about the casters is limited, judging by this pattern, they likely grew weaker, most likely losing their ability to control the darkness altogether. It's probable that it became concealed.
(May explain why Chip's powers manifested very late—they were hidden away.)
Tumblr media
Now, consider this. Jay Ferin, a child of the sun and descendant of those olympians, blessed by Aster; Gillion Tidestrider, a descendant of the Tritons or the Leviathans, blessed by Lunadeyis' light; and Chip, likely a descendant of the elemental casters mentioned in the prophecy, capable of grasping the darkness…
They stand as the ideal heroes of the story, maybe one of the only ones with the original, uncorrupted desire still burning within them, the ones to single-handedly save the world.
It makes a good story, doesn't it?
The sun, the moon, the elements.
Descendants of the three main bloodlines.
The unborn kings?
Tumblr media
Now, let’s move to Niklaus for a moment.
Didn’t he say that he likes a good story?
But first, I'd like to believe that in the grand scheme of things, Niklaus is merely a vessel, born in the abyss, for this entity, this darkness that threatens the world. He is bound to be the one to further its corrupting influence. And maybe with all this power in his hands, many centuries ago, he even self-proclaimed himself as a prince.
Didn't Niklaus once describe himself as a storyteller? What if this storyteller is fated to witness a tale that endlessly repeats itself? Such repetition can grow tedious and mundane. So eventually, a simple desire emerges—to instigate change, to sow chaos, and perhaps to find an opportunity to break free from the chains binding him to this world.
A vessel for darkness, born in the abyss,
Bound to spread corruption,
A nameless prince:
Niklaus.
And then we have the guarding giant, still clinging to his original desire,
Holding the darkness at bay for as long as he can:
Arlin.
Does it make more sense now?
Now let’s take a look at things on a much smaller scale.
Have you ever wondered why Chip, Jay, and Gillion—a wannabe pirate, a soldier, and the champion of the Undersea, respectively—form such a fucking random assortment of people? The only thread connecting them seems to be their association with the Black Rose members. And their meeting feels like destiny, doesn't it? What if I told you it's not destiny at all, but rather the aftermath of Captain Rose's failed deal with Niklaus?
(Was the deal intentionally unfulfillable? Was it by accident? I dont fucking know!)
Tumblr media
We know that whatever deal Captain Rose struck with Niklaus aimed to leave behind a legacy that would change the world. However, Rose failed to uphold his end of the deal, leading to his corruption and transformation into a goopy yucky—essentially, his deal backfired.
You might wonder, in what way it backfired? What better way to leave a lasting legacy than to trigger an event so impactful that it halts the endless cycle of history, disrupting the very mechanism that powers this world? To plunge the world into chaos, only to mend it once more, by bringing together the remaining group of individuals to retrace the steps of their ancestors—different people bound by the same desires as those that came before them.
Yes, the same desires.
The last thing Arlin, Drey, and Finn heard after releasing the entity from the egg was,
"What do you desire?"
What did Arlin James desire most?
I'd have two guesses.
Firstly, while discussing their desires on the staircase, Arlin expresses his desire to find the rest of the crew. Later, after Drey kills Rose, Arlin's words are: "There's still others that need our help [...] Adventure's not over."
Secondly, Arlin clearly wanted the best for Chip. He wanted to be there for this scrawny kid with no family or home, offering him something solid to hold onto.
Why do I bring this up? Because Arlin's desires have been passed down to Chip.
Firstly, hasn't Chip been chasing this his entire life? To locate the members of the Black Rose Pirates, to reassemble the crew, and to relive the old days.
Secondly, the dynamic between Chip and Ollie mirrors this relationship. While Ollie might be more like a brother to Chip and vice versa, it's evident to me that Chip cared for Ollie much like Arlin would for him. Just as Arlin gave Chip a coin, Chip passed that same coin on to Ollie.
What did Drey Ferin desire the most?
I believe he yearned to prove himself—not just to be another Ferin, but to establish his independence, to carve out a name for himself. Maybe he harboured hopes of achieving something significant, something that would make his father proud upon his return home.
Why do I bring this up? Because Drey's desires influenced Jay.
Jay Ferin ventures out with a mission: to uncover her sister's killer and exact justice upon the pirates that are responsible. And in doing so, she hoped to earn her father's pride. Maybe she also sought a sense of freedom and independence, desiring not to be entirely under the navy's influence.
What did Finn Tidestrider desire the most?
GAY SEX /J
Finn yearned to leave the Undersea, to broaden his research, and to witness the wonders of the world above first-hand. He aimed to dispel the notion that the surface was as intimidating as the Undersea made it out to be.
Why do I bring this up? Because Finn's desires influenced Gillion.
Who wouldn't, after years of rigorous training to become a champion—enduring beatings, breaking under relentless training, and being moulded into someone you're not—wish for it to cease, to break free and see the world for oneself? Upon witnessing the Elders negotiating with a human, perhaps it was that sight that pushed him over the edge. Maybe it was an impulsive decision, or perhaps it was his destiny all along. And once on the surface, Gillion's curiosity becomes evident. He wants to learn, experience, and judge for himself. Perhaps he also wishes to someday show his people that the surface isn't as menacing as they've been led to believe.
Niklaus was aware of all of this; he knows far more than he ever lets on. That's why, even before arriving in the town on Loffinlot, he was already trailing Chip, Jay and Gillion—the supposed heroes destined to save the world, or maybe aid him in fulfilling his own desire for freedom.
Tumblr media
Closing thoughts?
This might be a load of bullshit!
I'm going to take a nap!

The Kingdom of Wishes- A “Wish” Rewrite
Chapter 14- I Will Protect You
Chapter 13
"I WHAT?!" Aster exclaims, almost falling backwards from the log he was sitting on. His animation becomes more sketchy and unfinished looking.
"Umm "In love", come on, don't tell me this is one of the things you don't know yet" Hal says with a smile and one eyebrow raised.
"I- I know what it means but- Where did THAT come from? hah ha" The star asks nervously, genuinely not understanding what she's talking about.
"I mean... It's pretty obvious" Dahlia comes in and starts listing all the evidence "From the way you two talk to each other, to how you blush whenever she holds your hand, and how she laughs about pretty much everything you say, I could go on all day, point is that the signs are all there." She explains casually.
Aster's eyes widen "THAT'S what being in love is??? No- no way! I can't be in love, that's... A HUMAN THING. Wishing stars don't fall in love... Do we?"Aster asks now looking up to the sky... No answer, the stars are dead silent, but not because they didn't listen, they just don't want to get involved for now.
Hal smiles with confusion in her eyes, seeing the boy just stare to the sky all of the sudden sure feels quite weird, but she just continues saying "We may not know anything about wishing stars, buuut we know our girl Asha, and it's pretty obvious at least she loves you." She says booping Aster's nose cheerfully.
Aster's turn to look at her slowly "... You think Asha loves me?" The star is stunned, as his mind starts racing, realizing what this means "... Oh... Oh this is-"
Bazeema has both hands on her cheeks as she says in a dreamy sigh "The most romantic thing in the wor-"
Aster has both hands on his head as he says in a panicked voice "Terrible!"
Tumblr media
(This image doesn’t really have anything to do with this scene other than it taking place in a forest, but I had to include it in this rewrite cause OH MY GOSH DO YOU SEE HOW PRETTY THIS CONCEPT ART IS?!? AAAAAAH)
"Huh?? How's that terrible?!" Hal asks, now almost looking angry at the star.
Aster starts floating in the air, "Walking" back and forth "If Asha is in love with me an-and I'm in love with her then... She's gonna be heartbroken!" The star looks absolutely horrified with this discovery.
Gabo throws his head back and laughs at that before saying "WOOOW look at you, cape! Already dreading the eventual break up before even asking her out?" Gabo sounds almost proud "Maybe my pessimism is finally rubbing off on him" He whispers to Dario.
"NO nonono! The problem is... I can't STAY here!" They explain, sounding more and more distressed "Once we defeat Magnifico and save Rosas, Asha's wish will come true! And then I'll HAVE to go!"
"Well, here's a thought then: Fight the system." Gabo says with a mischievous look, like he's trying to influence the pure star to go to the "dark side" "Rules are made to be broken. What's the worse that could happen if you don't go back to the sky, hum?"
"I would cease to exist." Aster mutters quietly, still pacing around while flying.
"... Oh..." Gabo says in a deadpan manner "So we have a Romeo and Juliet scenario on our hands" The teen says with a hand on his chin.
"Indeed, it's a tale of forbidden love." Bazeema chimes in, both hands in her heart as she sighs like a hopeless romantic.
Gabo looks at her with a bored expression and says "I meant how they both die in the en-"
Dahlia interrupts him "Okay okay let me see if I understand" She pulls Aster down by his cape for him to sit next to her "After her wish is granted you'll have to leave, and you can't come back? Ever?"
"Yup!" The star blurts out, as he begins to speak quickly "So it's best to just deny these feelings and never let Asha find out, so her heart isn't crushed into a million pieces later, right?" He asks them with a forced smile, hoping they all agree.
"... Wrong" Hal says with her arms crossed "Aster, I get where you're coming from, but do you realize that if you don't tell her, and just leave... You two might spend your whole lives regretting not saying anything?" She asks the star with sadness in her eyes, but then she shakes off the feeling and add one last comment with a sassy smile "And I'm guessing the lifetime of a star is preeetty long, ain't it?"
"... You have no idea." Aster says while looking at nothing with a distant expression... For the first time realizing he's gonna outlive Asha by billions of years. The star looks at all the teens worriedly and asks "But if I tell her, then... Won't she feel even more hurt when I have to leave?"
"Most likely, yes." Bazeema confirms quietly, looking at Aster with a kind smile "But I think, if you two won't see each other ever again, then you should enjoy every moment together like it's your last." The star's eyes widen, not because the quiet girl is speaking more than usual but because those words hit him deeply with a realization, Bazeema continues with her quiet voice full of passion "Then maybe, it won't hurt as much when you go back to the sky and she stays down here, because at least you'll both know you had love... And that love will continue, even at a distance..."
Gabo moves slightly away from Bazeema like he's scared of her "Aight' who are you and where's Bazeema? She never spoken more than two lines in her life."
Bazeema realizes for how long she has been talking and that everyone is staring at her, she blushes and covers her cheeks in embarrassment "O-oh goodness, I didn't realize I was rambling, I'm so sorry."
"No, you're right." Aster says while getting up from the log he was sitting on "I'm gonna tell her." The star is back to his cheerful and confident self, as he starts making his way to where Asha went "I may not be able to spend my life with her, but I'll love her in our last few hours together just as much as I'd love her in a life time!"
Most of the teens cheer him on as he leaves, except for Simon who has just been staring this all play out while eating his soup, with a face of someone who regrets all his life choices... Oh and also Gabo stops cheering to give one last comment:
"Sure thing lover boy, but umm remember we can't have you two kissing and saving the kingdom at the same time, and we're gonna start the plan in a few minutes so-"
Aster is already marching through the forest as he shouts back to Gabo with an ever so slightly irritated tone "I'll love her in these next few MINUTES just as much as I'd love her in a life time!"
Gabo looks pleased because he has been trying to mess with the star's seemingly infinite patience the whole day, just for fun.
All the teens now are staring at each other in awkward silence, Dahlia notices and closes her eyes with a sigh
"... *sigh*... Do you guys wanna go and wa-" She hear the sound of footsteps and when she opens her eyes again, all of her friends are gone "Watch?... Heh heh Asha, you really can't get a moment of peace, can you?" She says while getting up with her crutch, to follow them, and watch how this will play out.
We cut to Asha sitting by the river, trying to draw herself while looking at her reflection. By her side there's a black and white, hand drawn candle lantern that actually emits light. There's also some fireflies flying around the proximity of the river.
Aster comes from behind a tree and takes a deep breath (even though he doesn't breathe) and starts flying to where she is.
Asha has her back turned to him, but she can see Aster's light approaching her, so she turns to look over her shoulder with a smile.
"Hey Aster! Great timing, I was just gonna ask you to come here" Asha taps on the floor next to her to signal that she wants Aster to sit with her
"Really? Well uh... Here I am hehe" Aster does so, they float down and sit next to Asha with his legs crossed "Do you need help with anything?"
"I could use some extra light. This lantern I made is great but your hair is waaay better" She says while placing her sketchbook on Aster's leg, so she can better see her drawings thanks to the light coming from his hair. She was gonna start drawing more but instead she gets distracted and talks with Aster excitedly "Also, I gotta say, it's amazing that my pencil can actually create FIRE! This is gonna be so useful when we're breaking in the castle. If any door is locked I can just burn them, or maybe I could create a giant hammer, or or... You know?! Anything!" She smiles widely at the star, not able to contain her joy, thinking about all the possibilities.
Aster looks at her with that same dreamy look he had at the campfire, admiring how she's just so full of life and hope.
"Yeah, I know, I'm glad you liked it" He says with a smile, Aster is now looking at the water, trying to think on what to say... Should he just say "I love you" out of the blue?... That doesn't feel right. So instead he just expresses how he wishes he could be there to... Protect her "I really wish I could go in there with you all, make sure you're safe"
Asha gives him a bittersweet smile as she explains "I know, but we've talked about this: you gotta distract Magnifico here in the forest and break his staff, while we'll get in the castle, fight the queen, and free all the wishes, so you can un-curse them and give them back to everyone."
(That's it, that's their plan! Will it work? whOoOoOOo KoOoWsSs? Oh wait, I know, hehehehe)
Aster looks at her worriedly "Are you suuuure you guys can handle Amaya on your own though?"
Asha chuckles with the question "It'll be eight teens vs one lady with no powers, if anything you should feel sorry for her haha" She laughs a bit, but then her face turns just as worried as Aster's was, as she thinks for a moment and says "But, you'll be on your own... Are you SURE you can fight Magnifico this time?" She asks him looking at him in the eyes.
Now Aster is the one who holds his laughter "Pfft you mean on my own + all the plants and wild life as my army? I'll manage." Aster says confidently, but then he notices the concern in Asha's expression, so he tells her more reassuringly "Hey, I'll be careful. He won't catch me this time, I promise."
Asha smiles as she holds his hand tightly "I know, I trust you."
Aster's freckles start sparkling and his hair shines brighter with that, they hold her hand back.
Asha also seems to be blushing as she holds his hand
The 7 teens are in the background watching everything with an expecting look, just waiting for Aster to make his move.
Aster notices them staring from the corner of his eye, Asha doesn't though.
The two of them break eye contact as Asha looks back to her sketchbook, while Aster looks at the impatient teens with an angry expression that screams "IM GETTING TO IT! LEAVE ME ALONE!"
The two teens take a deep breath and... They speak the same thing at the same time:
"... I wanted to tell you something-"
The two look surprised. Asha giggles a little as she says:
"Heh heh- okay you first-"
"No! no no no please, you go first!" Aster says, because he's honestly not ready to say it yet.
Asha takes a deep breath as she flips the pages of her sketchbook "Okay... This is gonna sound really out of nowhere but umm..." She stops in a page and takes out of the book... A sword "Wanna practice sword fighting with me?" She asks with an awkward smile.
... That's not what Aster nor the teens watching this behind the bushes expected at all...
Aster looks at the hand drawn sword and then back to Asha with a confused smile "... Eh?"
Asha lowers the sword "I know, I know, kinda last minute. But I just had the best idea!" She get's up and starts to explain while walking around with the sword in her hand "Your magic can't hurt me, and my magic can't hurt you, soooo we are perfect dueling partners to practice, don't you think?"
Aster understands now, she wants to be ready to fight the guards in case they are spotted by any... or even the royals.
"I don't remember sword fighting being part of the plan." Aster notes with a cheeky smile.
"It's not, it's just my own idea, call it a plan C" She says while looking at the sword she drew proudly.
"Sooo are you "planning" to make extra plans from A to Z? heheh" Aster jokes, still sitting down next to the river, looking up to her.
"You know, I actually might. Better be safe than sorry." She says, her smile falters a little, with her eyes revealing that she still has some doubts "I just... I gotta be ready for anything they might throw at us. I want to make sure I can protect my friends... Protect you." She tells Aster like she's letting out something that has eating her up inside.
Aster eyes sparkle with those last two words, since that's the same thing he wanted to say.
"... Well then..." Aster begins to talk with his eyes closed, reaching for something behind his back- "En garde!" He quickly creates a sword made of star dust while she wasn't looking.
The sword hits Asha, and just like how it went when Aster tried to use this trick against Magnifico during their fight in the storm, Asha starts laughing, feeling a sense of joy overtake her.
"Hhahahaahha" She laughs, hugging her sides as Aster get's up, standing in a fighting position holding his own sword "Hey! I wasn't ready!"
"Expect the unexpected, now come on! And don't you dare go easy on me!" He says spinning his sword with a confident look.
"Funny, I was gonna say the same thing!" Asha exclaims with a daring smile.
The two of them duel together around the clearing near the river, snickering the whole way through. Asha lands some hits on Aster, slicing his body made of star dust, but he immediately gets back together with every attack.
When Aster's sword hits Asha, all it does is make her chuckle a little, but she's landing a lot more hits than the star.
The 7 teens are watching all of this in the background, both surprised and endeared by the sight, that's definitely not where none of them expected this would go... But it is kinda romantic in a weird way.
"You're actually pretty good at this!" Aster comments as they're now both looking at each other in the eyes, with their swords pressed against one another
"Thanks! you too... But could be better tho." Asha says with a confident smirk "Good thing I'll be the one actually sword fighting hehe" She teases him
The star makes mocking shocked face "*Gaaaasp* Ooooh you did not! Alright, you asked for it!"
Aster summons a bunch of swords around Asha and makes all of them hit her at the same time, creating a huge cloud of star dust around them
Asha can only laugh as she falls on the grass
"Hhahaaahahah hey no fair!" Asha exclaims while laying on the grass
Aster is now floating with his face close to her's "Thought you said I shouldn't go easy on youuu" They smile playfully
Asha pulls him down by the cape and the two roll around the grass like two kids playing fighting, not even realizing that they're hugging. They both laugh the whole way through.
After calming down, they both lay next to each other and look up at the stars.
"So... Feeling more prepared?" Aster asks while still looking up
"Yeah, I think I can take 'em." She says, feeling reassured "*sigh* I just can't wait for all of this to be over." Her voice is full of hope.
Aster's smile slowly dissolves into a frown as he remembers he'll have to leave once it IS all over.
"... Um-hum, me too... Can't wait." They say, trying to hide their inner turmoil
Asha turns to the star with a curious smile "Ok, now's your turn."
Aster looks at her confused "Huh?"
"You said you had something to tell me, didn't you?" Asha asks, laying down on the grass next to the star
"O-Oh right! heh hehe... Umm" Aster quickly realizes he has no idea how to tell her. The star just begins blabbering nonsense without even realizing " Sooo uh I wanted to tell you- I mean- I actually didn't wanna tell you at first- Bu-but I have to t-tell you while we still have time that I... UUUH... I... I think I am- Ya know?"
Aster.exe stops working while Asha just stares at him in amusement, she never seen him acting like this before.
From the bushes where the seven teens are hiding comes Hal's voice shouting:
"Oh come on! JUST KISS THE GIRL ALREADY!"
(Shout out to @wings-of-sapphire who asked for a Kiss The Girl reference)
Aster discretely uses his magic to make several trees instantly grow in front of where the teens are hiding, creating a wall of trees, Asha doesn't notice as she sits up from the ground and looks back.
"What was that?" She looks around confused, but all she sees behind her are trees
"T-the wind, probably! heheh" Aster stammers out nervously.
Asha get's up and starts walking away from Aster "The other's may be calling us, I think we sho-"
"Asha wait!" Aster quickly gets up and grabs her hand, she looks back at him confused, but wanting to listen. Aster can only sigh as he explains frustrated " I just... I just have SO MUCH to tell you, and I don't know how to put it into words"
Asha holds his hand closely as she says "That's... Pretty unlike you. You've always been good at explaining what's on your mind" It sounds like that's something she admires about him.
"Yeah, but this is coming from somewhere else though." Aster tells her while placing his hand on his chest...
Asha's eyes light up in surprise, like she finally starts to realize what Aster is trying to tell her.
Aster ponders looking at her hand, how can he tell her all these new feelings that she showed him? Feelings that he can't even understand himself? How can he tell her what she's to him... Maybe the same way that he explained to her who she was... When they first met.
"Maybe... I can try beginning to explain this to you... In the best way I know how" Aster repeats the words that he said before they started singing "I'm a Star" on the night that Asha wished upon him.
And so... FINALLY... We get the song:
At All Cost
(Aster holds both of Asha's hands as the music begins, and we see fireflies flying around them. Asha looks at Aster expectantly, already suspecting what he'll say but still not quite believing this is really happening... That he actually feels the same way as her... And Aster confirms her suspicions as he begins to sing)
If happiness was a tangible thing It would be you If you'd have told me the feeling you'd bring I'd think it untrue
(Asha's eyes widen as she hears him, as he tries his best to put everything he has been feeling for so long into words. The star is gazing at her with a shy smile, his cheeks sparkling with golden star dust)
And people search for a wonder like you All of their lives You still amaze me after all this time
(Aster caresses her face gently as they say the line "You still amaze me after all this time", referring to how after growing up and watching her all these years, she still found new ways to impress him. Asha is now smiling at the star with eyes full of passion, confirming to him that she feels the same way, and with that, Aster begins to sing with more energy)
You pull me in like some kind of wind Mesmerized by the hold I'm in Leave you here, I don't wanna I wanna
(Aster pulls her in and starts spinning with her around the clearing, more fireflies start flying around them. Asha holds him closely as he sings the second line. Aster is hugging her as he sings the third line with his eyes showing more sadness, for he knows that eventually he'll have to leave her... And on the last line he looks at her, preparing to actually say what he has been meaning to say all this time... And only then he begins flying with her)
Love you as one does I, I will protect you at all costs
Keep you safe here in my arms I, I will protect you at all costs At all costs
(He holds her in the way one would when dancing a waltz, and starts guiding her to dance while they fly together, Asha is at first caught off guard by the fact they suddenly started floating, but as she looks at Aster in the eyes she knows there's nothing to fear, and she follows his lead. They're now flying above the trees, and all Asha can say while looking at the star is:)
Wow What's pain? When I look at you? No way I could explain you, even if tried to I'll never dream like used to do
(Asha caresses Aster's cheek with one hand as she now begins to put into words what she has been feeling, how when he's around she feels no pain, only happiness, how he changed her whole world and now she'll never see things or dream the same way) If someone tried to hurt you, I don't See how that could happen I'd fight for you in ways you can't imagine
(As she sings while still dancing with Aster and the two keep going higher and higher up in the sky. We see in the background behind her two constellations resembling Magnifico and Amable, and as she sings "See how that could happen" Asha moves her hands in a way like she's waving away some flies and the constellations behind her disappear as if the thought of them also is dismissed. And as she says the last line she boops Aster nose playfully to say how she's confident she'll keep him safe no matter what (You may hear in the distance the writer crying because she hates herself)) Felt this, no, I haven't, I hope It would be all right to stay right here beside you
(She smiles at the star brightly as she expresses she never felt like this before, and hugs him tightly as she sings the second line.) And love you as one does I, I will protect you at all costs
(Aster throws Asha to the sky, making her fly even higher than him, they're approaching the clouds above them. Aster flies to her and they hold each other to once again dance their waltz) Keep you safe here in my arms I, I will protect you at all costs At all costs
(As they dance flying upwards, they pass through the clouds when they sing the line "At all costs") If you're ever feeling like you're lost I'll come find you
(Asha is now above the clouds, she looks around noticing Aster disappeared, but as they sing "I'll come find you" Aster shows up behind her and gives her a hug from her back) Man all fronts, there's no ocean I won't swim across To be right by you
(Aster flies to be in front of her and holds Asha up, twirling with her in his arms, like this)
Tumblr media
And not just once, here and now I swear on my response I'll remind you
(Aster let's her down and they gaze each other lovingly for a moment while singing those two lines with bright smiles on their faces) And love you as one does I, I will protect you at all costs Keep you safe here in my arms I, I will protect you at all costs
(They slow dance on the clouds, with the moon light and the stars shinning upon them. We get a shot like this from sleeping beauty)
Tumblr media
(And as the song slowly comes to an end, Asha starts closing the distance between them) At all costs
(Asha's face is getting closer and closer to Aster's, as she's going for a kiss, Aster is surprised at first but he slowly goes for it too... Until.)
He stops.
As the instrumentals from "At All Cost" are replaced by different instrumentals
Instrumentals we haven't heard since the end of chapter 7.
The sound of some very angry orchestra instruments starts playing on Aster's ears, only the star can hear them, and that's shown in his face as he looks very bothered with his eyebrows scrunching.
Asha is waiting for the kiss but it never came, when she's about to open her eyes Aster just pulls her for a hug instead.
They hug, both not quite sure where to go from here, but Asha smiles brightly, feeling Aster's warmth.
Asha breaks the silence as she says "This is better than all my dreams...You actually love me back." She says almost in disbelief, but in a good way, like it's hard to believe this is real.
"Your friends said it was pretty obvious heh heh" Aster says chuckling a bit, trying to tune out the stars yelling at him.
"It kinda was ha hah" She says while laughing, because looking back Aster was very much not subtle about it "But I assumed that was just how you acted with everyone..." She admits, showing a bit of how her own insecurities were actually stopping her from seeing the very obvious truth.
Aster let's go of the hug and holds her face gently to say "Nah... Only with you." They smile, looking at her lovingly.
Asha's eyes almost sparkle as she looks to the star. She takes a deep breath and says "Aster... We'll be separated for most of the plan... I won't be there to protect you, so I need you to promise me that when you find-"
"Magnifico." Aster says in a whisper, his eyes not focusing on Asha as he's looking at something behind her
"Yeah, him, I need you to promise me tha-"
"No! Look!" Aster turns her face to look what's going on bellow the clouds.
Asha looks down and sees it... There's an army of guards approaching the forest, and leading them is someone carrying a green light.
Asha gets her sketchbook and draws a spyglass, pulling it off the page, she lays down on the cloud and uses the spyglass to confirm if it is him
Like this scene in the live action Peter Pan movie
Tumblr media
And sure enough, it is. But she notices something else:
"Yeeesh! That lightning messed him up more than I thought... He got a huge scar on his face now." Asha comments.
"HA! Nice. I'm gonna drive him nuts when I make fun about that" The star says mischievously, already planning on how he's gonna break that staff.
"Hey, this is exactly what I was gonna talk about! I need you to be careful out there, don't get cocky, and don't fall for his tricks." Asha says sounding more serious, but with worry clear in her face.
"I'll be careful, I promise." Aster reassures her confidently. He pulls her up and holds her in his arms bridal style "Now let's go tell the others we can skip the "get his attention" part of the plan- WOOHUL!" Aster jumps off the clouds.
We cut a montage that consists of Asha and Aster narrating their parts of the plan while those steps happen in real time, we see Asha drawing something while her voice says in the background
"To get from here to the castle we could use Aster's magic, but that’s too risky since his star dust is shiny. I think it's safer if I create flying objects to get us there, it'll be dark, so hopefully if we're quick the guards won't see us."
We see Asha draw a carpet, and once she takes it out from her sketchbook it becomes a flying carpet like the one from Alladin.
Then, we cut to some guards, with one of them yawning in the forefront, guarding the castle’s entrance, while above them in the background we see some dark tiny silhouettes passing by.
We cut to Asha and Dahlia already getting off the magic carpet, now they're at the center of the royal garden.
We also see Safi and Simon flying down on a witches broom, Hal wearing shoes with wings like Hermes, Dario flying on a donkey with wings, as a reference to the short "The Flying Gauchito" from The Three Caballeros (HA! I DID IT! I REFERENCED THE THREE CABALLEROS! THIS IS SUCH A WIN FOR ME AS A BRAZILIAN!!!)
"You sure got pretty creative with these "flying objects" huh Asha?" Dahlia mentions as the others start gathering around
"Heheh thanks, I decided to just let my imagination run wild" Asha says enthusiastically.
"I could tell" Gabo mentions as he lands down on the garden, and we see him riding a happy baby elephant with big ears... So yeah we straight up have a Dumbo cameo "Couldn't you just give all of us flying brooms?"
"And where's the fun in that? Brooms are way too simple to draw." Asha shrugs "Also come on, don't tell me you don't think this one turned out pretty cute" She says cheerfully while petting the hand drawn Dumbo.
"I must say, he is quite adorable hihi" Bazeema comments quietly as she's landing on the garden with an umbrella... Like Mary Poppins.
Gabo just gets off the baby elephant as he tells Asha with a smile, as in, a genuine one this time "Hehe I really don't understand how your mind works, ya know?"
"Neither do I” Asha admits casually, while magically bringing all the living drawings back inside her sketchbook “Alright, Bazeema, where's the secret entrance you told us about?" Asha asks her bashful friend.
We see Bazeema guiding them to the middle of a rose garden. They prickle themselves through the thorny flowers, with Safi sneezing a few times, until they reach a hatchway made of metal with the symbol of Rosas engraved on it.
"Such wondrous things an introvert can find hihihi" Bazeema says quietly and proudly while pointing at the entrance.
We then cut to King Magnifico riding on his horse, leading his soldiers to the forest with an wicked smile, and we hear Aster's narration of his part of the plan:
"Meanwhile, I'll deal with king Magnifico. I just have to annoy him enough to the point where he'll let his guard down and I can take that staff off his hands, and once I do, it's over."
Magnifico prepares to throw a fire spell over the woods while saying "Let's see how long they'll keep cowering in there after THI-"
Something small and round hits behind his head. Distracting him from performing the spell. The king turns and looks angrily at his guards.
"Who threw that?!"
The guards all look at him confused, not even knowing what he's talking about.
"I did!" the voice of Alan Tudyk comes from the ground
(Yeah he doesn't get to voice Valentino, but he get's to voice most of the talking animals, since he's the lucky charm of Disney and all that)
The king looks down and sees a red squirrel (That is native of the Iberian Peninsula, look it up) holding a nut, ready to throw another one at him.
Magnifico stares at the little critter for a second before he starts laughing, turning to look at the forest as he shouts "HA! What's the matter boy?! Too scared to face me yourself?! Come on out, I know you're hiding in there!"
Then they hear Aster's voice echo from the forest, it's a voice full of glee and mischief:
"Hehehe I ain't scared of you, Alan was just eager to get started! I'm just getting warmed up!"
Some of the guards look scared by the echoing voice, while the king still smiles confidently "Oh but you should be scared, or have you forgotten what I taught you last time? That you are NO MATCH for me!"
"Hmmm It's a blur, all I remember is that now you look just as ugly on the outside as you are on the inside! HAH HAHA!" The star lets out an impish laugh, it echos through the woods.
(Aster's Peter Pan side is showing)
Magnifico's scarred face goes from a confident smile to a furious scowl. He rides his horse to go deeper inside the forest, with the guards following along "WHEN I FIND YOU I SWEAR I WILL WIPE THAT SMILE CLEAN OFF YOUR FACE!" He shouts, enraged by the star daring to insult his looks.
"Good luck with that! Cause' ya know, back at that storm I didn't really have anything to work with...But now..."
Magnifico hears screams from the soldiers behind him. He turns around and sees some of them are tangled up in vines, while others are running away from wild critters, and others are trapped inside giant flowers, it's a vision of pure chaos as now the king is on his own.
Magnifico looks at all of that in shock, unaware that Aster is now floating right behind him with a relaxed and confident smile. The star let's his presence be known as he whispers:
"Now I'm in my element." The star says that like a threat.
Magnifico get's startled but doesn't let it show, as he tries to turn around but-
He's stopped by something holding his staff.
As he looks down and sees vines trying to pull it off his hands. Magnifico tries to pull it away from them with all his strength, while making his horse walk backwards, and with that Aster starts talking casually to the horse
"Hey pal, did you know the guy sitting on you tried to kill me yesterday?" The white horse gives him a surprised glance as Aster continues "Yeah, he’s NUTS, I think you're better off without him" Aster tells him warningly.
The horse glares at Magnifico, and stands up on his back legs, making Magnifico lose his balance and fall on the ground.
Tumblr media
The horse runs away, but the king is still holding tightly to his staff, the vines are still pulling it. He let's out a furious scream:
"UUUUGHA! You really think it's gonna be THAT easy?!" Magnifico uses a fire spell and burns the vines, once he's free he turns to where Aster was... But the star is no where to be seen.
"Yoooohooo!" Aster's voice sounds distant.
Magnifico turns to where it came from, he sees a trail, and by the end of it up a small hill, there he is, Aster is waving at him, basically inviting the king to follow the trail "Well?! What you waiting for?! Thought you wanted a proper hunt! HAHAH" And Aster flies off so fast it's almost he's just a shinny blur.
The king is catching his breath seemingly already exhausted even though the fight just begun.
His expression at first shows frustration... But it slowly changes to a wicked smirk as he talks to himself sinisterly "Indeed, I was looking forward for a hunt... And your little friends just so happen to be inside our trap."
Tumblr media
(Pretend there’s a lightning looking scar on his left eye please, not like Harry Potter, I mean like actual lightning, thanks.)
Magnifico runs to where Aster went.
So we cut back to Asha and the others, as they make their way through a tunnel that leads to the dungeons.
"You're sureee these tunnels will lead us to the dungeons, Bazeema?" Asha asks, she's leading the group while holding a hand drawn torch
"That's what my father told me" Bazeema says quietly.
(Also I guess I should mention her dad also tends to the royal garden.)
Asha nods as she looks ahead attentively "Well I hope he's right, cause' I really don't want any surpri-"
"Maaa"
They hear the familiar bleating coming from behind them, everyone turns around and it came from... Dario, as he tries hiding something inside his shirt.
"... ooooh no no no NO NO NO" Asha says, very distressed while running to Dario, already knowing exactly who's inside his shirt "Dario! We were supposed to leave Valentino with Aster's animal friends! Why would you bring him with you???"
Dario has a face full of guilt and regret as he pulls the happy baby goat out of his large loose green shirt, he lets go of Valentino and begins to explain in sign language "He gave me big sad puppy eyes! I couldn't resist it! Plus, what's the issue? The little guy might be able to help us" Dario signs that last part with a hopeful smile that his friend will agree
Asha doesn't agree at all though, as she takes Valentino in her arms
Asha scolds her tall friend while holding Velentino close to her "I promised myself I would never let him in this castle again, last time he almost got eaten by a lynx and- and what if he gets lost??"
"Asha, calm down." Simon comes in from behind her, placing a hand on her shoulder "We just gotta stick to the plan and stay together, we'll be safe."
Asha notices that he sounds... Very certain about that, which is odd coming from him. But Asha thinks it's a nice change for Simon.
"*Sigh*... Yeah you're right, we just have to stay together" She turns around and smiles at Simon "I'm glad you're not so scared anymore, you seemed pretty insecure about the plan earlier today" She says calmly as she makes he way back to the front of the line.
Dario follows Asha, now walking in front of Simon. The light coming from Asha's torch is distant so Simon is more in the darkness as he says
"I just needed some time to put my thoughts in order" His voice is emotionless.
And we see his eyes glow green for a second.
But immediately after that, he winces quietly in pain, placing a hand in his forehead as if he's feeling a strong headache. None of the other's notice though, as his eyes are back to normal when he opens them again.
We cut to them now inside the dungeons, it's a dark, large and humid corridor with walls made of dark bricks, with jail cells all along the way. Safi keeps sneezing because of the humidity.
Tumblr media
(I got this image from a deleted scene from Wish, I swear I had this plot point of them getting in the dungeons for MONTHS and I just watched the deleted scene a week ago, it’s insane how much stuff I came up with seems to be in sink with the movie’s original ideas)
"I hate this place- ACHOOOO!" The boy looks scared as he holds on to his scarf "Are we close to the exit yet, Gabo?"
"We sure are buddy, just a few jail cells ahead and we reach the exit" Gabo says confidently, he knows his way through the dungeon since, as he told his friends earlier, when he was a kid he went to explore it.
(I forgot to mention in the previous chapter but his dad is a guard, that's why he had keys to the dungeons that Gabo stole from him)
"Good, this place gives me the creeps" Dahlia says, while looking around scared
"Look on the bright side, guys" Hal chimes in trying to bring some optimism "At least there aren't any creepy inmates, it's just us and our friendly faces" the girl smiles brightly, hugging Safi and Dahlia by the shoulders.
"And also this poor fella" Gabo says, pointing at a skeleton laying down out of a jail cell, trying to reach for an empty jar of water
Like this one from Snow White.
Tumblr media
"... HMMM oooookayy let's pick up the pace, shall we?" Hal says with a clearly forced smile this time, her eyes wide as she starts to walk faster, still hugging Safi and Dahlia so they go with her.
Dario, Bazeema and Simon also start walking faster after the others, while Asha stays still for a moment
She looks down at the skeleton and ponders out loud "... I wonder what kind of people Magnus and Amaya would keep down here... Maybe people who found out about the secret like I did." Her voice is heavy and full of concern.
"I don't like how that implies this could happen to you." Gabo says for once not sounding condescending nor sarcastic, but genuinely worried, he's also the only one that didn't walk away from the skeleton and stayed to talk to Asha "Let's, just this once, assume anything in Rosas is normal and this guy just robbed the crown's jewels or something, now come on" He says, rushing Asha to keep going.
This is probably the closest Gabo ever got to being "Optimistic"... In his own way. Asha smiles at that as she starts walking after him. Then they hear Dahlia's voice coming a few meters in front of them:
"GABO! Is this the way out?!"
Asha and Gabo run to where they are, and all six of them are standing in front of a big wooden door
"YUP! This is it" Gabo says with a huge smile
"Great! Hold this" She hands her hand drawn torch to Safi, as she gets her sketchbook and pencil to draw a key, she then pulls it out of her sketchbook
"How do you know it's gonna fit though?" Safi asks her curious
"I drew it thinking of it as the key to this door, and so-" She fits the key inside the keyhole and the door makes the clicking sound of it being opened "It is" Asha smiles victoriously
All the teens look excited, the plan is going smoothly so far.
Asha gives them one last ted talk before she opens the door
"Alright guys, after we're in the castle we'll have to be VERY careful, yes, it's just queen Amaya in there, and a crazy lynx, but still, she's unpredictable." Her voice is of a true leader.
"Oh nooo! Is she gonna throw hot tea at us or something? Hahah" Gabo laughs at his own joke
Asha begins to open the door while looking down at Gabo. "You have no idea what she's capable of. So when we're in, we just run through the-"
"KITCHEN?!" Dahlia exclaims looking shocked at what's behind the door, all the other teens except Asha are also looking at it, just as shocked as her.
Asha looks at her friend confused "What? No, we're not going even close to the kitchen, we-" Asha turns to look where the door leads to and sure enough...
She sees the royal kitchen.
"... Huh?!"
All of them go through the door. Now they're inside the dark kitchen.
A place Dahlia is really familiar with... So she knows very well this is all wrong.
"Okay... This is freaky" Dahlia says looking around the place "That door was supposed to lead to the pantry, NOT the dungeon" she says scared, pointing at the door they came through.
Asha looks around the dark room, her face becomes more and more worried "This makes no sense..."
"Maybe your magic key messed with the door?" Gabo asks Asha
"No it didn't, this isn't my magic's doing, it's-" Asha looks at the door and realizes... There's something written on it. She gets a closer look, and sees symbols written all over the door, with some words in latin too... "This is the king's sorcery... He made a trap for us..." Asha sounds terrified.
"T-that's impossible, how could he know we were coming?" Hal asks, sounding just as distressed as her friend
"H-he couldn't, I-" Asha takes a deep breath and closes the door they came through "Check the other door!"
Dario runs to the door that leads to outside of the kitchen. It also has symbols written on it, but he tries opening it anyway...
It leads to the dungeons they just got out off too.
Dario looks back at them scared.
"... There's no way out" Asha whispers, sounding more and more distressed by the second. She takes Valentino from the floor and holds him in her arms.
"What about that door?" Simon asks, pointing at another door, but this one has no symbols written on it... And he sounds surprisingly calm for the situation.
"That's just the closet we keep the pans, pots and utensils. That's not an exit…" Dahlia explains, trying her best not to panic.
"Who knows? Maybe it'll lead somewhere, only one way to find out." Simon walks towards it.
He opens it, they look inside, it's so dark in there they can't even see the kitchen stuff that Dahlia mentioned.
Asha starts walking to the door, not sure if there'll be anything at all that can help them escape, but it's worth a shot, after all they apparently have nowhere else to go.
(I just realized there's probably a window in this kitchen and these kids are just being really dramatic)
Asha turns to her friends as she walks to the door "It's gonna be okay, Aster will come here after breaking Magnifico's staff any moment now... I know he will... All we gotta do is wait and stay toge-THEEEEEERRR"
And she falls in a dark pit inside the room.
"ASHA!" All 7 teens scream in unison, and I mean all 7, Simon included, as he genuinely didn't expect this.
(Actually, Dario wouldn't scream but uuh you get the idea)
However, he is the only one that stays outside the room, while all the other six run in, but unlike Asha, they don't fall anywhere, they're simply inside a normal room with pans and pots.
"Where did she go?!" "WAS THAT A TRAP?!" "What is going on???"
All of them speak at the same time, desperate for answers, but in the sea of shouts and questions they hear one quiet question
"Simon?" Bazeema's quiet high pitched voice makes the others go silent as they all turn around and see Simon standing in the entrance.
He looks at them with genuine sadness for what he's about to do.
"I'm sorry." He closes the door with a BLAM and locks it.
...
"... W H A T " Gabo's voice comes out filled with rage. "DO YOU THINK YOU'RE DOING?!"
"I'm keeping you guys safe, like I've been trying to do this whole time but none of you EVER listen to me!" The oldest of the group says from the other side of the door.
"Si-simon, what's going on, why are you doing this?" Dahlia asks desperately.
Simon takes a deep breath and tries to explain "... Look, I'm going to be straight with you all, I talked with king Magnifico-"
(Hahah that’s a direct quote from Wreck It Ralph, when he betrays Vaneloppe)
"MAGNIFICO?!" Gabo shouts with indignation "YOU DIRTY TRAITOR! YOU SOLD US OUT!"
"No! No it's not like that!... At least, it wasn't supposed to happen, I-I didn't mean to do it-" Simon knows they won't forgive him but he tries to at least explain he did it for their own good "I just wanted to make a deal with him, to give him the star's location in exchange of all of us not getting hurt-"
"OH SO YOU WANTED SELL ASTER OUT!?" Gabo for the first time calls the star by his name
"LISTEN! I was desperate, okay?! I knew that if we just went with this plan things could go horribly wrong, and I knew none of you would listen to me if I tried to stop you, so... I contacted him through a mirror he gave to my dad" Simon is sitting with his back on the door as he explains, sounding more and more scared "And- I- I even realized I was making a mistake... I really did! I tried to break the mirror or throw it away but- I couldn't do it- he just kept talking and talking and- UGH" Simon winces in pain and holds his forehead as his eyes once again glow green, he takes some deep breaths as he ever so slightly calms down "The point is... We made a deal. He promised that if I keep you all in here then you'll be safe. It's the only way I can protect you." Simon's face looks tired as he says those words monotonously, like he's just repeating what he has heard before.
"Then WHERE is Asha?! Or was she not included in the deal?!" Now it's Dahlia's turn to yell at him through the door.
Simon's face instantly turns worried once more as if he's snapping out trance "I- I don't know... He never said this would happen" Simon thinks for a moment "Though... I don't remember much of what he said at all..."
"Ooooooh GREAT! Magnus gave you amnesia, such a trust worthy guy HUMM SIMON?!" Gabo says sarcastically, but his voice is not trying to be funny, he is furious.
"I- I'm sure wherever she is she'll be fine!" Simon tells them... More so trying to tell this to himself.
...
We cut to Asha falling from a dark portal that opened in the ceiling of a room.
She screams while hugging Valentino tightly.
"THEEEER- OOOF" She hits the floor "Ouch... Uuugh... you ok Valentino?" She asks her goat while groaning in pain.
"MaAAaaA" Valentino doesn't sound his best, but overall he's alright.
Asha get's up and looks around to see where she is... The king's study... Right next to the wishes room...
This is actually exactly where she and her friend's planned to go, they wanted to free all the wishes by opening the tower's ceiling, so Aster could use his magic and un-curse them all, then give them back to the people of Rosas...
But her friends aren't here... She's alone.
"How did things go so wrong?" Asha asks to herself while looking around the room, she notices some broken mirrors on the walls, as she sees he own reflection "... Come on Val, I'll send the signal to Aster. Regardless if he broke Magnifico's staff or not, he gotta come here and help me." Asha walks to the wishes room, while flipping through the pages of her sketchbook, until she finds the drawing she was looking for, a firework.
She's about to reach for the firework to take it out off the page... But then she sees the light of the wishes floating above her.
She stops and looks up to them, some of them are still blue, but the majority are green.
She looks up with a bittersweet smile, and says quietly with her voice full of hope "Hang in there just a little bit longer, okay? I promise I'll save all of you."
Tumblr media
"It's unwise to make promises you cannot keep, mi rosa."
Asha feels a chill run down her spine. As she turns around quickly with an expression of horror already painted on her face.
Queen Amable is standing a few feet away from her, she's in the study while Asha is in the middle of the wishes room.
The queen smiles at Asha sadistically, with her pet lynx right by her side.
Chapter 15
Final Thoughts
OOOOOOOOH BOY so much happened huh?!
I am going crazy, wacky even, I waited so long for us to get to this part of the story! Not just the "At All Cost" stuff, I mean like THE CLIMAX THAT IS APPROACHING AND IM JUST BUILDING UP TO IT NOW AAAAAAH.
But YEAH let's talk about the At All Cost stuff, cause like... WOOOOAH BOY I love that song, and not just because it's pretty, but because while listening to it I felt like the song perfectly encapsulates teenage love, what do I mean? Because it's all so pure and like the two voices are saying the first things that come to their minds, it feels like a passionate train of thought forming in real time, and that's what I wanted to be like for Aster and Asha, as Aster is trying to figure out these feelings he didn't even know they could have, and Asha is caught off guard but so happy to finally show what she has been feeling too. It's beautiful.
I feel like most Disney couples don't feel like... Teenage love, mostly because the guys are ALWAYS older than the girl, and like, not that there's anything wrong with that... Except in some cases *glares at Snow White and Florian's age gap* but I think it's quite refreshing to see young love being depicted like this, with the two acting awkward and even oblivious because they don't know what love really feels like... And also they're raising a rebellion so that kinda keeps them distracted.
But speaking of the rebellion... It really takes just ONE person not believing in the cause for everything to go down the drain, huh? Yeah, Simon has his own ways of protecting his friends, while Asha chooses to fight, Simon chooses to comply. And really, I feel sorry for him, you guys maybe don't, like, everyone now might be a Simon hater, and I get it, but like, Magnifico played him like a fiddle.
Simon just hoped that if the king got Aster he'd leave Asha alone, but as they were talking Simon realized that Magnifico really wanted BOTH of them, so he realized he made a mistake and even tried to break the mirror... But before he could, welp, Magnifico pulled a Kaa move, and hypnosis happens to be way more effective on people who are feeling sleepy, so really Simon had no chance.
And can I just toot my own horn here and say that I'm so proud that even when Magnifico and Amaya aren't in the scene they'tr still threatening? Because that scene at the kitchen when they realize they're trapped, meaning that Magnifico knows their plan, GIVES ME CHILLS, probably because I hate the idea of being confined in a room with nowhere to leave.
And like... Magnifico is doing this just for the lols really, the guy could've just made Simon tell him where they were and captured them in the forest, but he was like "Ooooh they wanna get in the castle to harm my wife? Well, we can't have that now can we? Here's what I want you to do-" And then proceeds to make Simon betray his friends in such a way they'll never forgive him, oh, and if Simon doesn't do it then the king implies they WILL get hurt, how fuuuun.
It's funny how Aster is just having fun in the forest, messing with Magnifico, going through his Peter Pan arc, completely unaware Asha and the others are going through a living nightmare. Oh but don't worry, he'll join the nightmare too :)
You guys might start to think I'm on the villains side or something because they always get the upper hand, but this is all part of the metaphor of them representing the struggles Asha faces in her life, and let me tell ya folks, life is hard, sometimes just as hard as defeating two villains, but no matter what they do, Asha will keep fighting, and that's what makes a hero, the lower a hero get's, the more satisfying it is when they rise... And the higher a villain rises, the harder they fall :)
See ya'll next time!
Thank You For Reading!

The River of Lights
I am a busy man, you understand. You must be wedded to your work in my realm-hopping profession, and I am happy to bear that responsibility. It is not that I neglect my growing need for rest and recuperation in the latter part of my life, but merely maintaining my body does not nourish my mind. My travels are my breaks, and I take comfort from the sights and locales I pass through on my way to clients. But I am always on the hunt for the Asterism's most valuable spots: those that can heal both the flesh and the soul.
I have a favourite.
It is a grassy plain on the outskirts of the Mirror Capital, nearing the edge of the concave landmass upon which the city rests. Though a few buildings tower below the rising arms of the Lucid Weave's sky-islands, it is mostly smaller abodes, gravel paths, and narrow footbridges over the River of Lights. While often dim, like twilight, the area is always crisscrossed with deep and contrasting colour - not only does the river's luminescent water paint its banks in sapphire, but the sunny filaments of the Skyloom cruise overhead from the focal point of the Capital, up into the Weave, before returning amongst the star-ocean to these borders of our world's core. Both the water and the sky rise and set and cycle across the spectrums of blue and gold, creating an unequaled technicolour serenity.
My spot is off the path, a few metres from the river banks, where the stones and grass mix. There is a circle of gravel upon the foliage that I put a parasol over, keeping it dry and comfortable to sit on as rainfall frequents the surroundings. For the spectacle of neon colours nearby, it is always still and quiet. There is only the slow flowing of water, raindrops on canvas, swaying grass, and the gentle shimmering of the Starweaver's celestial radiance overhead.
I come here to reflect upon my life. And this place teaches me it is a life well lived.

The lights go out (Diluc)
The moment Diluc appeared in your life did not portend anything bad. A respectable gentleman with a rich history and a business of creating high-quality wine. As a man, he was quite gallant. It seemed that the red hair could flare up like his eyes. Always neat clothes, even in the role of a bartender, looked gorgeous, hugging a muscular body. His calm character gave his appearance a bit of mystery. In general, any lady will lose her head for such an enviable bachelor.
What else can I say about someone who treats your drunken nonsense with understanding and calmness. Which made you feel ashamed afterwards. As an apology, you could only cook some kind of dish. With your modest budget, you won't be able to keep up with gifts. Especially for a man who has everything. There was still some way to survive until the next paycheck. Diluc politely refused, but your persistence did not give him a chance. The guy was embarrassed, but also grateful. It was not uncommon for him to skip lunch because of his busy schedule.
Over time, a good friend of the bartender turned into a good friend. Your conversations have become more open. Sometimes you were invited for a little walk. Which is surprising, considering his busy schedule, but how can you refuse your friend? Recently, parcels without the sender's name began to be delivered to your doorstep. They contained small gifts. Your neighbor, when she saw another box in your hands, sighed languidly. "It looks like our t/i has a secret admirer. How romantic!"
You were awkwardly scratching your head, knowing who the sender might be. Your friend only apologized for not giving his name to this suspicion, since he has many enemies. And that could be a problem. He didn't hear you at all awkwardly mention that it was too much and too expensive to give something in return.
You liked Diluc, I don't look at his slight detachment. It seemed that the man was carrying more weight on his shoulders than could be seen from the outside. It didn't interfere with your friendship in any way. All people have secrets. There is no person who would not hide skeletons in the closet.
It seemed like your relationship was more like a couple in love than friendship. But the thoughts in your head kept nagging at you, because you didn't match his status in any way. An ordinary person with ordinary problems….Jean could be suitable for this role. She not only occupies a high position, but is also strong, intelligent, and also perfectly beautiful. It is rumored that she and Diluc often played together as children. An ideal candidate for the role of his wife…
Such thoughts could drive you crazy, but reality is completely different from fairy tales. Every relationship can end before it even starts. And feeling that my heart involuntarily begins to flutter at the sight of a red-haired man. You decided to stop it before the feelings tore your heart into small pieces.
Lately, Diluc has stopped observing your presence. It seemed like forever since you greeted him with a bright smile after working days. The man wondered if he had done something wrong the last time you met. You were just acting weird. No, rather detached. He decided to find out about it face to face. His concern for you has become almost the norm in everyday life.
Unfortunately, the weather foreshadowed a thunderstorm. Huge black clouds covered the sky like a blanket. Diluc already wanted to go home until he met the little owner of a small flower shop. You were just working for her. What was his surprise when Flora told him that you went in search of wind asters in the direction of the Valley of the Winds. Your absence meant that you hadn't returned yet.
I hope she will come back soon or she can hide somewhere. It's going to rain heavily. No matter how it gets to the storm. Even the flowers have closed their buds.
The girl left Diluc in a hurry, completely not noticing his dumbfounded face. The body did not move arbitrarily in the right direction. There was only one thought in my head: "You're in danger." He wanted to scream, knock down the first tree he saw, or hit someone. He couldn't stop. Fear has already clearly painted every case of your death. Now his visions could become reality.
Damn it. The first drops were felt on the skin. There were more of them with every step. A few minutes later, a clap of thunder hit my ears. It's bad. You're afraid of a thunderstorm. It was only by a miracle that through the haze he could see the overturned basket on the ground. Asters are scattered around. After walking a little further, he found a small depression between the stones. Your body was huddled there. Like a squirrel in a hollow tree. At that moment, a sigh of relief escaped from Diluc. You're alive.
You couldn't figure out how you got home. I remembered how Flora had talked about the lack of asters. You decided to go in search of them in order to somehow distract yourself from thoughts of Diluc. A thunderstorm came by the way, and it seems that you even found a place to hide and maybe fell asleep. But there are no memories left in my head of how you came home. Although it doesn't look like your house.
Are you finally awake?
That voice made you jump. The man you were trying to avoid was sitting on a chair next to the bed. Fatigue and lack of sleep were clearly visible on his face.
Diluc…
The guy sighed heavily, hiding his eyes in his palm. "I almost lost my mind while I was looking for you. Plus you were down with a fever for four days and I panicked even more when I couldn't wake you up. Why did you even go to the devil knows where before the storm?"
It's just that Flora needed flowers to sell, so I decided…
What the hell kind of flowers?!
It was not a scream, but the roar of a desperate beast. He literally made your body freeze. Diluc has never been so scary before. He was scared of his own voice when he noticed the fear in your eyes.
I'm sorry. I didn't mean to yell at you…. but the fact remains. You put yourself in danger. Is it worth risking your life for such pennies? How can I leave you if you can't even take care of yourself?
He scolded you like a strict parent for a little, wayward daughter. But he wasn't your parent. This is a person you may love, which makes you blush even more on an already red face.
I'm sorry…- that's all you could say.
It seemed like an eternity had passed when the heavy wooden chair creaked. Diluc stood up, heading for the door. You couldn't leave it like that again. Maybe this will be the only chance to confess to him.
Diluc….
From today on, thisplace is your new home. He said it without even turning around, causing your body to freeze on the spot. Diluc went out, letting the light from the corridor into the room. You managed to make out his serious face and completely extinguished eyes. "I'm sorry, but it's for your own good..
And the door closed, taking away the last bits of light. At that moment, my heart sank…

My random comic Recs #1
I've been reading more comics lately, so I wanted to share my love for them in the hopes that someone might give this medium a chance!
Note: I am not a fan of superhero comics, because I simply don't like that genre, so don't expect superheroes below. Gonna make these posts every now and then and they will always include 4 recs. 1.) The Many Deaths of Laila Starr
Tumblr media
Death got demoted and sent to earth as a mortal! Some boy is going to figure out how to cheat death in the future, and our girl Death really doesn't appreciate that. The entire graphic novel is only 5 issues long, so it's VERY digestible and easy to get through. There is something so light and playful about the art style, and the vibrant colors really sell it.
For people that are completely new to comics as a medium, I imagine that this is actually an A+ book to start with for the reasons I just mentioned. The way paneling and the flow of time is done in here, is a great example as to why comics are so unique as a medium and why they should be looked at as its own art from, separate from movies or books.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
2) Mécanique Céleste (Or "Mechanica Calaestium" in the German translation, or "Aster Of Pan" in the English translation)
Tumblr media
An absolutely breathtaking French comic. Aster lives in Pan, a post-apocalyptic France where she scavenges for wreckage with her friend Wallis. After their people come under a threat by the Federation of Fortuna, they are given a choice —submit to Fortuna’s rule or beat them in a weird Hunger Games-esque version of Dodge, called “Celestial Mechanics”.
The detailed art pieces in each panel, the careful line work, the lively way the characters move and the stunning watercolors captivated me from the first page. This graphic novel (now 2 volumes) is one of a kind and truly unique!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
3) Something Is Killing the Children
Note: Comic contains a lot of gore and violence!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Children are starting to disappear in Archer's Peak. The ones that come back tell impossible stories that no one seems to believe. Only one stranger trusts these tales - a mysterious girl named Erica Slaughter who seems to be able to see these creatures too. And she's here for business.
I loooove Something is Killing the Children. I haven't finished reading the ongoing volumes yet, but I am super fascinated at how well the pacing goes in this story. The rough art style with Erica's freaky large eyes is SO fun, and you start appreciating it even more the longer you read.
4) Mon Ami Pierrot ("Mein Freund Pierrot" in German, "My friend Pierrot" in English)
Tumblr media
Another fabulous French comic! Cléa is to marry soon - a young man name of Berthier. Right before the wedding she meets the fascinating magician Pierrot though, who completely changes the course of her life. Entranced by his whimsical nature that makes her feel "free" for the first time in her life, she follows him and leaves her previous life behind. During her stay with Pierrot, questions arise, though. Who is he really? All the while her betrothed sets out to find her again.
The Ghibli influence both art- and storywise is easy to make out, and I personally really enjoyed that. I particularly love the colors and the facial expressions the characters are drawn with. Everything feels very whimsical and playful and I had a good time going through this chonker of a graphic novel!
No spoilers, but I expected toothrottingly-sweet wholesome stuff, and ended up surprised on several occasions. I think the colours and art style really help give those moments wham, because you don't expect it.

FROM ME TO YOU.
Tumblr media
Because good things take time and it’s not too late for happy birthdays.
ft. Albedo x gn! reader.
cw/genre: fluff, birthday special, reader is an amateur painter.
this is just something spontaneous that I came up with… I just… kinda gave free reign to whatever flashed through my mind once I was before the blank document, parting from a very vague idea I had haha.
if you enjoy this, reblogs and comments help more than likes !
Tumblr media
Autumn’s cold always arrived early in Dragonspine.
The faraway rays of a molten copper halo fuse with the peaks outlined on the horizon.
Magic is the word you’d use to describe such scenery; seconds that seemed to both be suspended in the helpless passage of time, and slip between your fingers; like golden sand inside an hourglass too small to savor every snapshot brought by the incandescence of crepuscular skies.
On instances like this, you wished your painting skills were better; if only to capture the glow of early dreams threaded through the asters of twilight.
For now, however, this will have to do.
Why did you wait until so late for this, you are unsure.
True, wishing a happy birthday to someone as the clock strikes twelve is not an uncommon occurrence.
And you’re kind of doing just that, more or less.
Except…
Well, it’s usually when the special day starts that calls are made, starlit whispers are uttered between lovers, and secret kisses are exchanged.
So you can’t help but wonder… is it too late?
For this? Or to back out now?
A sigh escapes your chapped lips, into the dimness of dusk, the stillness of frozen peaks, the stars.
Stars.
Your gaze is drawn to the easel you’ve set before you, fingertips delicately trailing over the four-point asteroids decorating a heaven made of brushstrokes.
Gold pinpricks, almost aglow beneath the darkening penombre of sundown, over a backdrop of ultramarines and indigoes, akin to sunlight over the depth of a frozen sea; a mirror image of the sky now hovering over snowy plains.
Looking up, you find a firmament of constellations. Stories, sketched in the silver flames of light years away suns, above an infinity of obscurity.
Those tales, however, had a tendency for lighting up paths that fell victim to the constant fluttering snowflakes.
“Hello, dearest.” A voice, smooth, liquid dawnlight over dewed cecilia petals, greets. “Am I late?”
The sound of crunching snow fills the fire-lit silence, the torches from his camp casting him in tepid hues.
“Albedo!” You call him, turning around.
And when you do, you swear he alone outshines every galaxy you could ever dream of rendering on canvas.
Tendrils of midnight sun and honeycomb seem to meld together in the blonde locks framing the alchemist’s porcelain-like face. Spotless, argent light from distant stars kisses his skin, fading into flecks of sparkling acacia blossoms to halo his gaze.
Summer skies.
That’s the image his eyes always evoked: clear skies, endlessly blue, over meadows to lie on, the low grass soft beneath your forms, as hands entwined and fingers pointed above, determining the shapes of the occasional cottony clouds.
What a paradox, how someone who spent his days surrounded by ice could make sparks ignite in your heart, cheeks heating up like the embers that remained after the coziness of a homey hearth.
“Is there anything you needed my help with, love?” He asks, gloved hand running its thumb over the back of yours.
Your gaze flits from your intertwined hands to his smiling lips, taking in his features in full.
“Not exactly your help.” You offer, your own lips a moon shaped brushstroke of vermillion. “I just… would like you to see something.” Your hand squeezes his, as you swing your linked hands between the both of you. “It’s your special day today, after all, isn’t it?”
Your rhetoric is met by the alchemist’s windened gaze, followed by one of his subtle smiles.
Tugging him along, you guide him to the candle lit spot where your easel is propped up.
Why are you feeling nervous all of a sudden? You internally chide yourself, biting the inside of your cheek.
Relaxing your shoulders, you turn to face your lover, gaze averted when you mumble:
“It’s not much but…” You scuff one of your boots on the dirtied snow. “I just… I remembered your painting, ‘You and I’ and… well… you know… I…” Your lids close, your nose scrunched up in that way he always found utterly endearing. “I wanted to make a painting for you too!” You finally sputter, stepping aside so he can see your masterpiece.
From that moment on, Albedo would forever believe no starry night could ever come close to capture the sheer magic of your art.
Gilded speckles abound in your make-believe heavens, each of them a shade slightly different than the previous one. They rest against a backdrop of cyans, accentuated in baby blue around your handmade constellations, the piece’s finale, a violet horizon. Outlined against it, two figures seem to dance, their happy ending created by them, rather than foretold by the celestial bodies staring in envy at a proximity that doesn’t burn, but warms and completes.
“I know it’s not the best but-“
“It’s perfect.” Is the kreideprinz’s awestruck answer, as his svelte hands hover over the frame. “You’re perfect, [Y/n].” He blurts, still staring at your work.
Then, he meets your eyes again. Your face is in his tender hold, a fleeting frosted kiss landing on your lips.
“I love it.” He assures. ‘I love you.’ His dilated pupils confess.
“‘From me to you’. Its title.” Your hand reaches up, resting on top of his. “You know… I hope you didn’t think I had forgotten about today… I just… kinda wanted this to be your last memory of your day.”
With that, both your gazes fuse in a watercolor of each other’s lips, of the anticipation of feeling them against your own.
“Happy birthday, Bedo.” You utter, before leaning in.
And then, the night, the snow, the starshine, all fade away, in a myriad of rose colored frenzied blazes. Your hands lost in the ash blonde strands at his nape; his, pulling you closer by the waist. Your kiss is a nebula of pulsating light, undimmed by even the most ruthless blizzards, lighting up the ebony of the pines obscuring the moonlight. Frozen air is exhausted in your lungs, but you don’t care right now, not when you’re kissing your prince charming under the lights of an aurora that’s still hours away.
A few moments pass, with the stars orbiting marking the approach of midnight.
A snow-kissed breeze caresses both your faces when you part, causing a shiver to rake through your body.
Your prince’s arms wrap around you.
When you look at him, matching chuckles fill the night air.
Moments like this were worth waiting all day for.

There was a habit you had that Wednesday was starting to pick up on, and she was not fond of it by any means. Somehow, by some cruel trick played by whatever spirits were watching over her that day, you always, always came by her dorm while she was busy. She was playing the cello? You miraculously dropped from the sky and started talking before she could even set her bow down. She was writing? You burst into the room with whatever stupid question was on your mind for the night.
More than once you had even appeared while she was in the shower, knocking to let her know you were there and then yelling through the door. It was times like that she almost wished you would get struck by lightening on your next flight.
Tonight, however, you had crawled in through the window because Wednesday had finally gotten the bright idea to lock the door. She should have known better.
“You seriously need to lock your window,” you huffed as you pushed yourself back up to your feet. There was a nice tint to your cheeks from the cold. Wednesday stared for too long, thankful for the fact that you were too busy brushing the dirt from your knees. “What if someone came in?”
“Oh yes,” Wednesday sighed, “what if.”
“Anyway, with that safety lesson out of the way, here’s...” You dug around your satchel until you pulled out a book that Wednesday… didn’t remember loaning you. “Your book!” You handed it over with an obnoxious smile. A Tale of Two Cities.
“You stole this,” Wednesday said simply, though she still reached for it without hesitation. Her fingers grazed yours as she took it from you; your fingers were cold. Would you mind so terribly if she wished to warm them?
“It’s not stealing,” you huffed before throwing yourself face-first onto her bed. “It was borrowed without permission.”
Wednesday didn’t dare dignify your nonsensical excuse with a reply, instead just placing the book on her desk and flipping through it to find where you had left your mark. It came in the form of a single downy feather stuck near the last third of the book. She exhaled slowly and put it in her drawer; you weren’t even looking.
“The Rave’N is coming up soon,” you mused as Wednesday started writing. It gave her a welcome distraction from… well, from you. “You thinking of going?”
The clack of the typewriter stuttered for just a moment.
“I could not fathom a greater form of punishment.”
“Oh,” you said before covering it with a cough. “Yeah, that’s what I was thinking too.”
Wednesday felt a twinge of disappointment. Her words had been no lie; there was truly nothing more miserable than going to a stupid high school dance. But if you had intended on asking her, then maybe, just maybe, she would have considered it. After all, it wasn’t like you would be going with anyone else anyway. Right?
She said nothing, just continued typing away at her novel. Out of the corner of her eye, you shuffled and moved around, grabbing her pillow and resting it under your chin. Your eyes bore holes into the side of her head; god, did you ever blink? Didn’t you have anything better to do than lay there and stare at her?
“Thing, you smell absolutely divine,” you said in the most Enid-esque sing-songy voice after a few agonizing moments of staring.
With the slightest turn of her head, Wednesday watched Thing crawl onto the bed and start showing off. A pose to the left, a pose to the right, showing off his good side. You would “ooh” and “ahh” as he turned and would make ridiculous faces at him. It was beneath you, yet Wednesday couldn’t stop from watching with a morbid curiosity as you egged him on.
“You simply must tell me your secret,” you said as Thing finally crawled up onto your shoulder. “Tell me, is it the bergamot?”
“Can you two take this elsewhere?” Wednesday interrupted Thing mid-gesture. You pouted; it was enticing. “This isn’t beauty hour.”
“You, Wednesday Addams, are a killjoy.” You pushed yourself up to your knees - you were getting your shoes on her bed - and stepped onto the floor, Thing holding tight to your shoulder. “We’ll continue this in my room.”
The blatant stomping as you made your way to the door was enough to get Wednesday’s teeth grinding. Your ability to set her on edge just by being a brat was impressive, she wouldn’t deny it. Yet it still made her want to reach out and strangle you, no matter how far she had to go to reach your neck. She watched you leave only for a moment, more than ready to turn back to her novel but-
“-Stop.”
You froze with your hand only inches from the doorknob. Your right wing twitched, drawing Wednesday’s attention to the feathers that were still growing back from your flight in the woods all those weeks ago. She stood up from her desk and walked over to you with slow, purposeful steps until you turned around and were face to face with her.
Well. For the most part.
Wednesday stared you down, reveling in the way your wings twitched and shook under her gaze. Their reaction always intrigued her, always activated her curiosity in ways very few things could. Her own fingers ached with the desire to reach out and brush against the smooth feathers.
Instead she just grabbed the sweater you were wearing. It was made of a rather particular pattern in some rather familiar shades. She hadn't seen it in a few weeks, but surely she hadn't misremembered it. There was only one real difference between then and now.
“This is my missing sweater.” Wednesday met your eyes and took note of the way they widened only for a second.
“Is not,” you said quickly. “Thing, is this Wednesday’s?” Wednesday shot Thing a glare, one that he knew the consequences of. Instead of answering, he just shrugged and scuttled around to your other shoulder. A true coward. “Told you.”
“My mistake,” Wednesday said before giving you one last look - you practically shrunk under her stare - and walking back to her desk. “Thing, be back by curfew.”
“See you later, Wednesday.”
Your voice echoed in Wednesday’s head long after you had closed the door behind you. It was impossible to count the amount of people that had said her name, and yet when you said it… it was different. Something about it struck a different chord in her cold heart.
Maybe it was the fact you were shamelessly wearing her sweater.
—---
Hummer’s meetings, though necessary, were becoming the bane of Wednesday’s existence. It wasn’t Eugene’s fault, he tried his best to make them fun, but your snoring from the other side of the hive was enough to drive anyone insane. What were you even doing there anyway? Hadn’t you officially given up on Eugene’s inability to make friends?
A loud slap reverberated off the walls, followed immediately by a "fuck!" and a disgruntled groan. Eugene halted in his speech as they both looked at you, now wide awake with glassy eyes and a bright red cheek. You gave Eugene an enthusiastic thumbs up and a grin that would make anyone swoon.
Eugene smiled right back at you and continued whatever it was he was going on about. But Wednesday noticed the way your smile dropped and you rubbed your cheek, looking around for the culprit. Thing snuck up Wednesday’s leg and hid on her shoulder, as far away from you as he could get. Smart hand, she thought behind a smirk.
The meeting continued, and even though Wednesday had never started paying attention to what Eugene was saying, now she was downright distracted. By the way you would hold your hand out for the bees to land on, to your absolutely pitiful sneeze when a bee landed on your nose, to the loose feathers you left on the floor. Why couldn’t you just pay attention so she could pay attention?
“Hey, I gotta head out.” You stood up. “I’m late for practice.”
“Okay,” Eugene said with a look that gave away his disappointment. “Wednesday can fill you in later.”
“Nah, I’ll hear it from you,” you said, shooting him a smile that had no doubt made many a woman swoon. “I’ll text you.”
“Sounds good,” Eugene answered, and you gave him a thumbs up.
“See you later Thing. Addams.” You winked at Wednesday before heading out of the hive.
The way her stomach dropped was downright embarrassing.
The meeting continued to drag on for another 35 agonizing minutes. Wednesday’s only saving grace was at least they were harvesting a few of the hives so it helped pass the time. Slowly. By the time everything was finished, Wednesday wanted nothing more than to escape and get back to her dorm. This much socialising was exhausting work.
“Hey Wednesday,” Eugene called out before she managed to escape. She stopped in her place and turned to look at him. “Is Y/N going to the Rave’N?”
“How should I know?” She asked, but what she really wanted to say was why do you want to know?
“Think she would go with me?” He asked; his eyes went wide at Wednesday’s sudden coldness. “As a friend!” He defended instantly. “Only as a friend.”
Wednesday’s shoulders relaxed slightly. Only as friends, she thought with the most miniscule nod to herself. That was acceptable. Not that she would have cared, obviously, if you would go as Eugene’s date. But surely he wasn’t your type- she stopped her thoughts right there. She was not going to proclaim to know what your type was or that she even cared in the first place.
“Just ask her,” Wednesday finally said before promptly turning around and walking out of the hive.
A mix of emotions tumbled around in her chest as she walked around campus. Why had she gotten such a visceral reaction to Eugene asking if you would go to the Rave’N with him? It was a dance that she cared absolutely nothing for. There was nothing enticing about a room full of sweaty teenagers drinking spiked punch.
What were you doing to her? What was it about you that was different? She had yet to care about anyone the way she did about you. Her protectiveness over Enid, Eugene, Pugsly, it couldn’t even hold a flame to how she felt about you. And she couldn’t even figure out what kind of feelings those were. How was she-
-the sound of a piano caught her attention and froze her in her spot.
The door to the opera hall was open just enough for music to spill out into the quad. It sounded like a jumbled mess, the keys being hammered and played in a way that was reminisce of a child. Thing pointed through the doors, and with a roll of her eyes, Wednesday walked in.
The pitiful excuse for music got louder as she walked further into the opera hall, her steps almost silent on the carpet. A twang from the piano staggered her steps and she tilted her head. The riff played twice, slowly, then picked up speed again. With a singular nod to herself she continued walking until finally she could look upon the stage.
You sat there on the bench, playing away as if you had not a single care in the world. Your posture was absolutely horrendous, Wednesday noted as she eyed your hunched shoulders and bent neck. It looked like you were too big for the instrument even though your hands flew effortlessly over the keys. Jazz, it finally clicked as she listened to you continue.
At least, it was jazz until it wasn’t. Maybe she wasn’t entirely sure what you were playing.
But she stood there and watched dutifully as you played, a smile seemingly etched onto your face. You looked completely entranced, your eyes falling shut as a laugh fell from your lips. You looked- no, Wednesday would never admit to that. She stood up straight and moved as if to leave until she noticed something.
There, on your right wrist, were three black hair ties. Her black hair ties.
Somehow, she didn’t mind.
—---
You were late.
You were late and Wednesday had already pushed back her writing time for you. Now, 37 minutes past when you were supposed to already be in the room for tutoring, you were still nowhere to be seen? Wednesday would’ve strangled you if given half the chance.
“She’s probably asleep,” Enid said after Wednesday had paced the room for the seventh time that night. “Just go wake her up.”
Still asleep? How? It was a late start, of course, but it was a Monday. What could you possibly still be sleeping for? That decided it, she was going to go find out for herself. She didn’t bother saying bye to Enid and Thing - who were having yet another manicure party - and walked out the door, making a beeline for your dorm.
How could you stand her up? Tutoring had been moved around a few times but you always showed up. Now, the week before the Rave’N, you were going to abandon her? To spend time with Enid? How very well dare you, you certainly knew better than that, did you not?
She knew your room by heart; not because she had ever been inside, but she had walked you back numerous times. So she could be forgiven for not stopping to knock on the door and instead just walking in, closing the door behind her.
“Where were-”
-her heart froze in her chest when she actually looked into your room. It wasn’t untidy by any means, but the amount of… things was rather impressive. Bookshelves were littered with pens, badges, coins, daggers - is that her dagger? - and whatever else the mind could imagine. In the far corner of the room was a pile of blankets and clothes, and you were resting face-down on top of it.
Your wings were outstretched across the pile - your little nest, she thought - and for probably the first time, Wednesday stared in awe at how large they truly were. Realistically she knew they had to be big enough to carry you around, but to see them up close just hammered the idea home. They were stunning.
There was a peaceful look upon your face, one that she rarely saw during the day. You were snoring lightly and holding onto a piece of cloth so tightly that Wednesday could see the individual tendons in your knuckles. If anyone else had seen you, they would’ve called you adorable.
But not Wednesday, of course.
Wake her up. But you looked so comfortable laying there, spread out for no one but her to see. How many people got to see you like this? Free, unbridled for everyone else’s convenience. We’re here for a reason. Does that reason matter when you look so at peace? This is pointless. It most surely is because she can’t bring herself to move or turn her head away from you.
A shift in your breathing pattern, and suddenly Wednesday was brought back to her current situation. Right. You were supposed to be tutoring right now. Your math test was in three days and you needed help, and she was doing nothing to ensure your ability to pass the test.
Wake her up. But she didn’t have to, because you shifted and suddenly Wednesday was met with your groggy, half-open eyes that struggled to stay open. In those first few moments of consciousness, what were you thinking of? Was your head filled with the remnants of a dream that would be long forgotten before you spoke your first word? Were you thinking of someone that brought such a stupid, childish grin to your face?
“Fancy seeing you here,” you mumbled with that same dopey smile. It was pathetic. Wednesday was pathetic for letting it affect her.
“You missed tutoring.” She sounded too harsh; good. There was no chance she was going to let you know what you did to her.
“I was out late,” you mumbled again, finally pushing yourself to your knees. Wednesday turned her head when your sleep pants fell low on your hips. “Give me a sec and we can get started.”
She couldn’t see you, but she heard you shuffle around until the bathroom door clicked shut, and finally she could breathe again. Everything about you was really starting to wear her patience thin. She had come here with a purpose and now she was busy trying to keep her breathing in check because of your sleep pants. You truly were a testament to her patience.
“Ready?” You walked out of the bathroom while still pulling a shirt down. Thankfully, Wednesday didn’t notice until you were finished and-
“-is that my shirt?”
You froze in your tracks. This was becoming a common occurrence, Wednesday realised. At the very least this was the third time she had noticed you wearing some article of clothing that had belonged to her. First the sweater on Parents’ Weekend, then the sweater when you brought the stolen book back, and now this? How had you even managed to get them?
It was while you were frozen and staring at her that Wednesday finally looked at the pile you had been sleeping on. And how she could pick out at least three things in it that she knew had come from her closet. A blanket, one of her secret pairs of fuzzy socks, a jacket. Her glare shot back to you, and the room was so quiet you could both hear you audibly gulp.
Were you going to lie to her and say it wasn’t hers? She would have loved for you to try and talk your way out of this one. Everyone else might buy your lies, but not Wednesday Addams. She could not be won over by honeyed words and convincing smiles, no matter who gave them to her. No, she wanted to hear what you were going to say.
“I have a perfectly reasonable explanation for this-”
“-is it?” Her gaze never left yours. Say something.
“Not anymore.” You straightened up and crossed your arms over your chest. You had nerve, Wednesday would give you that.
She liked it.
“It looks better on you than it does on me.” Your eyes widened at her words before a blush rapidly ran down your neck. “Grab your book,” Wednesday said. You rushed to follow orders and made a spot for the both of you on your pile.
It was actually quite comfortable.
Wednesday went over everything she could with you in the time you had left. There was no doubt in her mind, you were still utterly hopeless at math, but by the end of the morning she had a little bit of faith that you would pass. That would have to be enough unless you could squeeze one more tutoring session in before Thursday.
“Hey, Wednesday.”
She stopped packing her things. She didn’t say anything, only turned her head just enough to look at you out of the corner of her eye. You were playing with your fingers; they seemed more pale than usual. Every time she would meet your eyes, you would find something else to look at.
“Eugene asked if I wanted to hang out with him at the Rave’N,” you said far too softly. “If I had no one else to go with, that is.”
Of course. The Rave’N was that weekend. It was coming up and you still hadn’t asked anyone to go with you. Why hadn’t you asked Bianca, or Yoko? Surely they would have enjoyed you as their date. What could have possibly been holding you back where you would consider going with Eugene?
Why did she like that you would consider going with Eugene instead of Bianca or Yoko?
“Enjoy the dance with Eugene.” She didn’t think she liked that so much either. Your attention would be on him, or Enid, or anyone else at the dance. What if she didn’t want to share your attention? What if she wanted it all for herself, just for one night?
“Wednesday.” Your huff brought her attention back to the look you were giving her. What was that for? “This is the part where you ask me to the dance and I say yes.”
What?
“Why would I ask you to the dance?” Wednesday asked incredulously. And that was what brought a smile back to your face. An embarrassing smile that made Wednesday’s stomach twist into knots.
“Because Eugene and I have been trying to force you to ask all week,” you continued.
“What?”
“He thought asking you for permission would force you to ask me yourself.” Your smile faded into nothing, leaving only a gleam in your eyes. “He’s not even going to be here.”
To say she was astounded at your planning was an understatement, but she was also amazed at your lack of execution. She never got the hint, so clearly your plan had been foolhardy at best. Besides, why would she be jealous of Eugene? It was clear you two were barely even friends to begin with.
But you were still standing there and staring at her, and you looked like you were waiting for a response. Did you truly think she would ask you to the dance? You knew how she felt about it, surely you didn’t genuinely expect her to ask. Did you? Then again, maybe a small part of her wanted to ask…
“Go to the dance with me.” It wasn’t a question. You didn’t seem to care.
“I’d love to.” You grabbed your backpack and started leading her out of your room to finally head to class. “We can work on your romance skills next time.”
