Dick: Guys like Joker, Two-Face--who have a thing for dead Robins--or even someone like Scarecrow...who'd want to give us real-life nightmares...are all put away.
Tim: Oh, now you've narrowed it down to only them who want Robin dead. What about the League of Assassins? Ra's al Ghul? His daughter Talia...
Dick: Okay. Point taken. It's a big hit list. Keep checking those articles about the missing kids. Maybe there's something there.
Tim: Like what? “Want ads” for dead sidekicks?
Dick: Y’know, and here I thought the moody partner had gone out for the night.
Tim: These are not bedtime stories.

Batfam/Batboys with a Yandere S/O
Tumblr media
[This is something I wanted to write personally and decided to share with all of ya'll. Please remember this is fiction, since it has come to my attention that it needs to be stated. I do not condone this behavior, I just enjoy writing it. Thank you, enjoy.]
-
Batman/Bruce Wayne:
Yan S/O is devoted to him, would literally kill anyone just to make him happy.
Even if Bruce knows that your love for him isn't healthy, he doesn't let you go. He honestly finds comfort in your love, it's tight like collar on the both of you. Yet, he can't help himself but let your chains keep him together.
You love him to the point of no return. Willing to forsake the world, morals, everything. Even Talia can't do that. You want to hold him and keep him safe in your sickingly-sweet embrace.
Bruce has a case of savior complex with you, thinking he can change you. Where your desires to coat Gotham in red aren't necessary for him to love you.
But to you, it matters that you try to kill anyone in your way to Bruce's heart, or maybe just managing to keep them at arms-length.
Those finky, so-called, "villians" are apart of your anger. They CRAVE Batmans attention, which should only be for YOU.
Bruce and Batman do their best to keep you from killing villians. Most times failing and trying to cover it up for your sake and his reputation.
I could see Yan S/O just straight up telling Bruce that they are gonna raise his childern..
Which is kinda true, since they managed to get Alfred's approval. 《No clue how...》
Anyway, Yan S/O is around for all of the Batfam. Being the kindest and sweetest parental figure ever. Often threatening and hurting villians when they try to get in the way of family outings or straight up killing them under the guise of "self-defense."
You teach your way of "love" to Dick and then so on and so fourth. Causing a horrible cycle and generation of yandere Batfam. It's kinda funny.
"Just what exactly are you teaching him (Y/N)?" Bruce asked you, his tone accusing as he watched you clean up blood off the floor of the parlor room.
Jason sat on a small armchair, a notepad in hand as he re-reads over his notes.
Dick strolls up beside the older Wayne, watching the scene.
"Oh! I remember when you taught me that trick, gotta remember this little-wing!"
Richard [Dick] Grayson:
This man has been emotionally starved, having been raised by Bruce.
Dick has been in many romantic relationships, but they mostly fall flat and him and his romantic partners become just friends. Which is fine, but he still yearns for a romantic connection.
Or honestly a positive connection that has someone caring for him instead. Yes he's a good brother and son, but Bruce and his brothers mostly depend on him as the "happy-go-luck Dick Grayson".
Not the moody and depressed part of him.
Yet he meets Yan S/O, who is pretty much his personal everything. Cheerleader, bestie, (beside Wally), cuddle buddy, ect.
In your eyes, he could do no nothing wrong. You hold no high standard as how he should be seen.
He doesn't need to be the "Nightwing of Bludhaven" nor the "sweet and handsome Grayson".
He is YOURS, and you are his.
"Hey~ Welcome back," you whisper kindly. Aiding him inside the apartment. More-so dragging him in with strength he didn't know you possess.
Dick smiles at you, his eyes tired and body woozy from working late hours.
-
Jason Todd:
Jason never really grew up in a loving home, when he did however, it was taken away from him very early on.
So when any once of love he gets from Yan S/O, he tries to push it away. Thinking he'll loose it, somehow.
Yet if Yan S/O proves their devotion, Jason will accept their advances.
He doesn't see you as a total threat to himself, to other's though, that's a different story..
You listen to him, wanting to know every bits and fucked-up pieces of him.
You don't see him as some type of puzzle to finish, you just want to know him. To love him.
Holding his hands in your own, you place them on your forehead. Breathing out a content sigh, tracing his fingers gently. As if he was made out of porcelain and not a monster he saw himself as.
Tim Drake [Wayne]:
Tim is concerned about Yan S/O affections, finding them perfect. Too perfect.
He's afraid to love them, because Yan S/O is all he could imagine as a perfect lover for him.
Kind, attentive, uncaring of his coffee addiction.
Someone who'll listen to him need out about ANYTHING.
It could be the stupid-est thing ever, yet you'll stare him like a love stricken idiot.
Even when he talks about someone he likes, you'll still smile. With clear hurt in your eyes, yet never sabotage his dates or try to change his mind. Just listen with a open heart, hoping for the privilege to let you love him.
He honestly doesn't want to push it, knowing you'd have to have a limit.
But you never crack..
It drives him mad.
To the point where he surrenders himself to you.
There was no one who could be as "perfect" as you.
"Hey! Hey!" You squeak, feeling Tim's cold hands touch your cheeks. Squeezing them together to make a fish-face, leaning in to give you a small peck.
-
Damien Al Ghul/Wayne:
Straight up opposite of Tim.
Damien pushes your button's, wanting to see if you had the guts to kill for him.
Not believing that you were worthy enough for him.
He is a Al Ghul.
A Wayne.
Yan S/O thinks saying a heartful declaration of love will sway his heart. Not even a little.
You have to be persistent for Damiens attention, clingy but not to the point of becoming a annoyance and a bother.
Hell, maybe even uncaring. Giving up on the chase, which pisses Damien off.
Weren't you the one that wanted to be with him!?
Yan S/O acts like loving him was a phase. Which upsets him even more, he acts like it's not bothering him.
He starts missing your presence, whether if you were happy or timid around him.
"You already stuck around this long, might as well reward your efforts." Damien scowls, opening his hand out for you to take. A big smile breaks onto your face, which makes Damien freeze.
You won.

[Hope you enjoyed! Everythings appreciated!]

Shipper Tag Game
I was tagged by @ginoeh , thank you so much!
And also: I’m notoriously bad at doing these and still have many, many in my inbox I will eventually get round to answering (thanks to everyone still waiting), but I thought I can do this one since it will be a lot easier to write off the cuff because:
I don’t really ship; I don’t find it particularly interesting, sorry 🤣
Having said this, I’ll still try to answer the questions, so here goes…
What ship were you completely obsessed with as a teenager, but now you don’t care about anymore?
I don’t think I was ever obsessed with any ship, not even as a teenager, because I tend to like characters and their stories, but I don’t really ship them other than what’s already in canon. So very mildly, maybe Batman/Bruce Wayne and Catwoman/Selina Kyle because they never truly ended up with each other? But even that one was meh…
Which ship would you consider your first one?
Hm, again, too mildly too really care, but maybe Aragorn and Arwen from LOTR?
Your first fanfic was about which couple?
Written: Erm, despite having been a writer for aeons, I only wrote my first fanfic in 2022, and that was an OC x canon. So if we’re looking at canon x canon, it was Johanna Constantine x Rachel Moodie/Sandman.
Read: I’ve honestly no idea and can’t truly remember, but I’m fairly certain it must have been a Batman one.
Do you remember the first couple you saw fan art of?
Fairly certain it was Bruce and Selina.
Have you ever gotten into ship discourse?
When I was a teenager, people were fighting over whether Bruce/Selina or Bruce/Talia were the OTP, but we weren’t terminally online, so ship discourse in this disproportionate, unhinged way wasn’t really a thing. I stayed out of it back then and still stay out of it now because I think everyone is free to like whatever they like. I have opinions that I occasionally voice, but that’s rather about general fandom trends (misogyny drives me up the wall) than specific ships. So as long as no one tries to ram their ship down my throat, it’s all good.
Did you used to have a NOTP or have one currently?
No ship is generally NOTP, but the way some people ship can be annoying. I have to admit that Dreamling has started to get on my nerves a bit. Not because I have a general problem with the ship or people who like it (many of my mutuals do), but rather because it’s everywhere, it’s hard to filter, and certain people need to make every discussion—also the ones that have zilch to do with it—about it and literally claim every corner of the fandom.
I don’t mind if people ship them though, I just don’t constantly want to get bombarded with it. So I guess what I’m trying to say is: Have your fun with it, but leave other people who don’t like it out of it, and stop constantly encroaching on creators to make it “real”, and above all: Stop inboxing people hurtful crap. In short: Don’t be an entitled arse with OTP goggles about it.
Who were the last couple in the last fanfic you read?
Dream x Calliope/Sandman.
Currently, do you have any OTPs?
Yup, the one I’m writing, which is a canon x OC pairing, sorry. Other than that, I don’t. I usually can’t get over why pairings don’t work in canon, hence I write OCs. And if they work out in canon, they already have everything they need, so I don’t feel particularly tickled to write about them. It’s sadly how my brain works. The only ones that currently get remotely close are Dream x Calliope (because of second chances) and Dream x Johanna (because they’ll be a complete fuck-up, but in an interesting way). But I still wouldn’t consider them OTPs.
Is there any couple that, to this day, you are extremely mad about not getting into?
That question doesn’t make a lot of sense to me, but maybe I’m missing something? If I can’t get into it, it’s for a reason, and that’s not a loss or something to get mad over…
Is there any ship you used to dislike but now you think they’re kind of interesting?
Nope.
Do you have any ship that, in the past, would have been considered normal but now you would be cancelled over?
No because again: I don’t really ship. Unless it’s a =>
What is your favourite crack ship?
I am one of the main instigators of “Murphy and His Cool Hat”, so of course it has to be Dream x Helm.
What is the couple you read the most fanfics about?
None in particular. I either like the tone of something or I don’t. It’s probably easier for me to say what I don’t read/tend to avoid…
What do most of your ships have in common?
Byronic men who are shit communicators 🤣
What do you absolutely hate in a ship?
Nothing outright? I can get behind a lot of tropes if they’re crafted well, the plot is solid and the writing is good. If I had to pick one thing it’s power-over-dynamics. I abhor them in real life, and I don’t feel a massive desire to write them or read about them (as in: specifically seek for them or make them part of the plot myself). But even so, I have read fics with such dynamics and it didn’t massively bother me because the story and writing were good. Another thing I’m not massively keen on is enemies to lovers and/or lots of forced arguments just so people can angry-fuck. But hate is a strong word—again, if the story is well crafted and that’s not the only thing that’s going on, I wouldn’t drop a story just because of that.
I'm no-pressure tagging @rey-jake-therapist (shipping, friend, it’s about shipping 🤣), @marlowe-zara, @tickldpnk8 if you want to, or maybe just point me towards your post if you've done it already?

Dyou think the pheonix lore about being reborn from their own ashes applies to Arthur Parnassus? Dyou think at a ripe old age (probably having outlived Linus, given that he seems to be supernaturally youthful) he'll pass on from this life in a ripple of flames with Zoe standing vigil at his bedside, and she'll look down at the ashes to find a baby crying where her old friend was just lying? Dyou think she'll pick him up, bring him to see his kids -- the ones who are all grown visiting when they heard he was sick, the others still children all these years -- and they'll be sad, then confused, then happy because he gets to come back. And Sal will say it's their turn to look after him, now, and Talia -- still just a child by gnome standards, basically a moody teen -- will will take her turn holding the baby with utmost seriousness, because it's not every day you lose a dad and get him back as a baby brother but she won't let him down. Dyou think they'll wonder if they should even call him Arthur, maybe he'll be completely different this time around, but stick with it anyway -- if he wants to be someone different, they'll support him, but he should get to choose that for himself. Dyou think decades and decades after the first time, some other girl working her first summer job at the ice cream parlour will be scooping cherry flavour for a messy haired little boy with colourful socks once again.

Today’s Musings…
TOPIC: Dieter & Talia’s Trauma Response
Tumblr media
Today’s song playing on repeat while I write is Don’t Speak by No Doubt.
Today I finished Chapter 13 of Destiny & Deliverance and started Chapter 14. I think I’m about to write a whole ass novel y’all and I’m not even joking. It is, however, moving along quickly. I don’t have a Beta, so hopefully it hasn’t been and won’t be too big of a mess.
The start of Chapter 14 has got me laughing to myself as I write it. We get to see a snarky and protective side of Dieter. He claps back at another character (who we shall not name right now to avoid spoilers) in such an epic way. I’m loving it! This will happen a couple more times throughout the story. It’s possible that he may be picking up on Talia’s tendency to not have a filter.
So far we have seen the sweet and caring side of him, which is who he is at his core. He’s like a big golden retriever, honestly. As we continue to peel back his layers, we will learn about his trauma and how it is truly affecting him. He’s going to be moody. Even erratic and manic under certain circumstances. Through these situations we are going to delve into some heavy mental health topics and follow his journey to finding his way back from the darkness through Talia’s PoV.
We have had a decent overview of Talia’s trauma response so far. Hers manifests in the form of anxiety, insomnia, flashbacks, and self blame. She started off using alcohol as a coping mechanism, but she has had time to grow and move past things. She may not realize it yet, but her healthy habits are having a positive impact on Dieter too. These two are at their best when they are together.
Dieter’s trauma response is going to be on the more severe end of the spectrum and he is going to struggle with it, badly. This will become more apparent as we move along and reach the climax of the story. It’s going to be heartbreaking, but it will make the ending so much sweeter.
With that said, if you are someone who is struggling from trauma and are experiencing trauma responses, please don’t be afraid to ask for help. Feel free to reach out to me for resources or just to chat. ❤️

OK, S2E1 deep dive.
Going under a cut for anyone who hasn’t blocked the “halo spoilers” tag.
At first I was huffy that we aren’t going to get anything about John and Cortana, but my drama gut says the show will revisit this in the second half of the season after Reach. Bigger problems right now. Still going to write my version of their untangling. Cause this is really the Chief & Cortana show for me.
Is it me or does John look oddly pale and skinny in that scene?
Vannak the animal lover has me 😍 He is exactly who I wanted his post-pellet self to be. I want all the Spartans to be big goofy nerds. John has the grapple shot I loved from Infinite.
I am probably the only person who noticed this. But the phraseology in the opening scene is much crisper than last season. It feels a little more professional to have Chief and friends calling each other “Silver [number]” in the field instead of using first names like they’re playing tag in the schoolyard.
The planet named Sanctuary. “Find your faith, Spartan. I have seen your death. It comes soon.” ????? HOW SOON IS SOON, SHAMAN-LADY? That’s not really the point, though. The point is, I reserve the right to use this to fuel my “What would happen if four Spartans walked into a church?” curiosity.
I did not miss the St. Christopher medal and Corporal “I’m a Baptist” either.
John’s visible-through-the-helmet exasperation with the communications team is so endearing 😂 I love him asking Talia’s name before they start fighting. It feels very true to his game self, somehow. The cloaked elite fight is downright chilling.
Admiral Keyes, still sporting only four stripes, seems remarkably hamstrung and dissatisfied with the state of things, validating my headcanon that he avoided promotion because he didn’t want to deal with political BS. The Spartans’ BDUs or whatever they’re supposed to be are way better than last year’s, which looked like they were made of slinkies and styrofoam.
Ackerson is creepy and slimy as heck. His interactions with John? CREEPY. SLIMY. What even IS Ackerson anyway? Everyone calls him “Mr.” except Cortana (more on her in a bit) who addresses him as Colonel Ackerson. Is he still military? Reserve, maybe? Why is he calling ONI “the O-N-I”? Does anyone do that? Is the show ever going to tell us what ONI is? And why a colonel is in charge of it now? WHAT IS GOING ON HERE.
Oh yeah and Ackerson is “taking over for Dr. Halsey”? Um, where is Miranda?
Because Halo is The Chief & Cortana Show, I will take this opportunity to point out John’s “they took her out—it” line. He is NOT over Cortana by a long shot. Ackerson knows that, and he’s going to wield it like a broadsword.
Ackerson does seem to be the only person around here who has the guts to call John on his insubordination, though.
Madrigal is glassed. So…that portal is a non-thing, I guess? Mr assures me the portal could survive if Madrigal was a shield world, but it feels a little like a cop-out. “People didn’t like Madrigal? Oh, it’s glassed. Nothing to see here, move along.”
All is not well on The Rubble. Some shifty-looking guy claims to have seen Halsey. Soren is not listening to his wife, which rarely ends well. Laera’s attitude is a pretty big shift from last season. Soren my friend, this should clue you in that something is up and your wife is your early warning system. Kessler is going through a moody teenage phase about five years early. And Kwan is there, hunkered in a cave. How? Why? Does Soren know about this? I’m confused. I still love Soren and Laera, though.
All your “are there other Spartan teams” questions answered! There is at least one other: Cobalt Team. COBALT TEAM. COME ON, PEOPLE. Riz and Karim were a thing once upon a time, maybe? John and Val obviously have some rapport. Kai and the other blond look like they’re trying not to laugh at each other. I can’t help noticing, for all their talk about pellets, Cobalt doesn’t seem as robotic as Silver did early on. I can’t ever imagine the Silver Team we met in the very first episode bantering like this. Anyway, I want Cobalt to take out their pellets so we can have emotion-fueled chaos. After Reach gets slagged, of course.
John goes to what looks like the Coruscant lower levels and visits…an AI/VR brothel???? “Welcome back, customer” He’s been here before?! ANYWAY he thinks he wants to talk to Makee, but his “visual parameters” look very much like Cortana. John’s “there’s a part of me that’s missing, and maybe it’s part of you that embedded itself in me” line. Yes, that’s Makee, BUT IT IS ALSO CORTANA. She took part of him when their connection got severed. John is just in denial about how much he misses his holographic waifu. I will die on this hill.
Kwan talks about “the monster” in her ending epilogue. What monster is “older than your god” and can take away anything you love? The Flood? IS KWAN TALKING ABOUT THE FLOOD I NEED ANSWERS EVERYONE.
E2 tomorrow, hopefully!

It was a brilliantly sunny day when Aaron was born, which was not normal for February in New York City. Maybe it was a sign of things to come. The Lower East Side was his playground, and Aaron grew up living a happy life. His parents had been high school sweethearts growing up in Philadelphia, and they instilled in him, at a very young age, that love was indeed all you needed. Though they didn’t live in excess, his mother was a middle school choir teacher, and his father was a high school librarian; they had all that they needed. When he was five, they gave Aaron a baby sister, Talia, his best friend in the world.
It was many years of bliss—years filled with dirt-cheap movies, Hanukkah celebrations, record stores, and homemade matzoh ball soup. Years of discovering Shakespeare and pop music and discovering that maybe Aaron liked boys as much as he liked girls. Years of music, laughter, and joy filled the Levy household. Aaron wanted for nothing back then. He thinks back on this time in his life with bittersweet fondness, knowing he was lucky to grow up in a place that felt so warm.
When he was 18, he moved a few blocks north and attended NYU for his BFA in Theatre. He had found theatre in high school without much pushback from his parents. Yes, of course, it was a risky career path. But he had a spark, this big burning flare of talent and passion, and his parents didn’t want to snuff it out. Aaron had to work two jobs, alternating between working at a cinema and a bar, to afford anything, but he was happy, and that was enough.
It wasn’t until his senior year of college when his father got sick. Cancer caught him quickly and gave him little time. Aaron was devastated, trying to be home as much as he could. It was setting up for his Senior Showcase, but he didn’t have it in him to push through the pain and try as hard as he might have under better circumstances. He needed to be there for his mother and Talia. He spent much of the time that he was supposed to be in rehearsals, visiting his father in the hospital. It all went so fast, and suddenly, the wonderful Levys were now a family of three.
He managed to graduate, thankfully. Aaron was despondent, but he had maintained his grades and relatively good standing with the university, so he got out on time. He didn’t do particularly well in his Showcase, however, so he was not matched with an agent and manager like most of his classmates. It took him three years of hustling and grinding to make his way up on his own. Skimping on meals and working until he was numb and delirious. But it was also distracting, and carrying the grief he still held; he was grateful for any distractions.
And then, one fine day, right after his 25th birthday, Aaron was unbelievably lucky. Or at least, that’s what he says. He was in the elevator with the right casting agent, just making small talk, and landed an audition for Shakespeare in the Park’s summer production of A Winter’s Tale. He landed the part of Florizel, and from there, the parts just kept on coming. Over the next few years, he became a bona fide Broadway mainstay, hopping between contemporary and classical works effortlessly. He even had a brief stint as Fiyero in Wicked, which… scarred him for life. He would never do a musical again. He had bit roles in long-running New York City TV shows, like Law & Order SVU, and he felt calm. Like the hard work paid off, and he was making his dad proud.
It was early into these years that he met Travis Walker, a Broadway investor. Travis was older, not by a huge amount, but by enough. Over the years, Aaron had his fair share of flings; men and women were constant but fleeting, and he didn’t place too much stock into forming long-lasting relationships. He was married to his work, and though he was taught that love was so important, he found love in other things: his friends, and his plays and his drive to create art that mattered. But he met Travis on the opening night of one of his plays, and things moved quickly.
He fell, and he fell hard. Aaron was besotted. This was what he had been waiting for, at least he thought. It was perfect: every time he looked at Travis, he could swear he heard choirs singing like angels were in his ears. This was the love his parents had gone on and on about… it had to be. He felt infatuated and believed that he was adored in return. Travis would buy him trinkets and take him on lavish dates and make space for him in his penthouse on Fifth Avenue… this was the dream.
But soon, that dream was five years long. And Aaron was at the peak of his career, having just given a star turn as Hamlet. He thought he felt the proposal coming on… it had been years, and he had been so patient and attentive, even when Travis had his moods. Even when Travis started to travel much more. Even when things felt lonely. He was supposed to be at the theatre one night for a post-show celebration, but he decided to head out early for the evening, wanting to spend the evening with his partner. When he got home, he discovered a waking nightmare: Travis and a chorus boy. He methodically packed up, absolutely crushed by Travis’ cold and cruel nonchalance at what had transpired. He didn’t even care that it was ending… and then it was done.
Aaron needed to leave the city… he needed to get out. He moved most of his things, which weren’t too much, into a storage unit, grabbed a large backpack, and left. Took a flight to Europe and backpacked. Spent some time roaming around Asia. Came back to the States and got off and on Greyhound buses until he was fully wiped. It was almost two years of this. He needed to shake it out of his system and get the grief and the loss out of him. It was then, at age 32, that he decided he would go back and get his Masters.
Getting into Brown’s program was easy. He was a celebrated actor and though the shock of him being in class with his cohort was a bit much, at first, he settled in nicely. He fell in love with Rhode Island, and 3 years on the coast did him well. He learned so much about himself and what he wanted to do, and what he needed in his life, and he wouldn’t have traded that time for the whole world. When he got out, he was still disillusioned with New York, so he looked for jobs elsewhere.
That’s how he landed on Starlight Oaks. He’d had a friend in his cohort who had spent some time in the area, and when he saw an open job at the University, his friend recommended it. It was another coastal city, welcoming and waiting for him. He couldn’t wait to see what was in store.

A bitter sense of victory
Tumblr media
Years after the battle, those who have survived still have to live with the trauma.

Warnings: mentions of death, blood, dark vibes here
Her focus never wavered as she stared her enemies in the face, the hoard of Death Eaters far grander than the number of opponents left outside to face. Talia knew that the first line almost always perished. Like lambs to the slaughter, but she was no lamb.
She was a wild beast, charging into battle with a blade in one hand and fire in another, eyes of fury staring them down as they approached. Her body knew what needed to be done, her mind not once wavering.
She could drown the sounds, not be distracted by a friend falling next to her. The constant sounds died slowly one by one as she concentrate on her breathing, ducking to avoid a direct attack. A blast next to her made her squint her eyes slightly and then all was silence and nothingness.
She was alone, left between hundreds of corpses piled up in the main courtyard. Looking down at her hands, blood painted her skin in thick coats. Wiping at her skin, it helped little as the crimson liquid made sickening sloshing sound, molding between her trembling fingertips.
Staring around, she called out, however upon opening her mouth, her voice refused to leave her throat.
She could not move when she tried to take a step, her eyes casting downwards to see several hands constricted against her legs, those she could not help hanging on to her with rigid limbs, eyes wide open in horror.
Reaching for her blade, she cut and cut, the sound of skin splitting apart scratching against her ears, a sound like no other.
“Talia.” A voice called out to her, however as she looked around, she was still alone, senses invaded by different smells followed by the sounds of a battle no longer being fought before her “Talia.”
Again a voice called, this time Talia sitting in front of a Death Eater she had hunted down, his wand at the ready, spell leaving the tip, hitting her directing in the stomach, sending her flying back.
She was alone, in pain, tears streaming down the sides of her face as she stared at the dark sky, hands reaching out to press against her stomach, fright making her completion pale. The baby, anything but her baby.
A scream erupted from her throat, warmth invading her as her healing powers travelled through her veins.
Being jolted awake, she squinted her eyes at the bright light in the room, Talbott running a hand across her sweaty face “It’s alright, just a nightmare.”
Feeling the baby kick, she closed her eyes, placing her hand over her belly, a sigh of relief breaking through the panic of her hectic heart.
“More like night terror. I don’t know what’s up with me, but ever since the eight month, it’s been worse.”
Leaving the bed, Talbott ventured to the kitchen, bringing her a glass of water. Sitting next to her on the bed, he offered her a reassuring smile “The battle again?”
“That and more.” She sighed placing a glass aside after drinking a few sips.
“It’s almost May, probably why.”
Scoffing, she adjusted her position “I don’t even know what day it is since going on maternity leave. I can’t sleep in any position, I’m moody, my back hurts. I just want this to end and rest.”
Chuckling, he placed a hand on her stomach as well, knowing fully well there wouldn’t be much sleep with a new born “To be fair I’m so happy I managed to convince you to take leave at seven months. I honestly thought you would be fighting bad guys until giving birth.”
She smiled, however her eyes appeared to darken “I would have. There are so many bad people out there Talbott and I am but one. We won the war, but there will always be something, someone.”
Cupping her cheeks, he placed a small kiss against her forehead “You can’t fight everyone, even though you wish to. It’s not on you.”
She bit down on her lip, refusing to say anything more. He was right, but not fully. Because she would still live to see other wars break out and she would be there to fight them.
For all eternity.

So... I'm having thoughts about a previous post of mine, regarding a Gotham Zoo au. (Gotham Zoo AU)
I see this going two ways; Zoo au happens despite of Batman. (aka, Batman's origins still happen, but doesn't go through with becoming Batman.) or Zoo au happens instead of Batman. (Aka, Bruce never considered being Batman, Zoo happens, no superheroes in this universe kinda thing.)
Let's go with Despite Batman first of all. (Be warned, this is along. So friggin' long. As in 3k +)
Bruce finds out about Damian before Dick's parents fall. There's this small child he's created with Talia, who struggles even more than his father in connecting with people. (perhaps Talia handed him over because Damian is on the spectrum?) He's broody, moody, resentful of being treated like a child, and a bit entitled. and he's not even double digits yet. Bruce, in short, has not one clue what to do with his son.
(Alfred help.)
Bruce finds out Damian likes animals when his grumpy little shadow abandons his side for the first time during a gala, because one of the heiresses brought her new, expensive, pure-bred cat.
It's perhaps the only time Bruce has seen his young son show childish interest in anything. Because cat fluffy.
He brings home a tuxedo cat the next day, freshly adopted from the shelter. This prompts a 'teaching moment, master Bruce' from Alfred, where Bruce tries to explain to Damian why adopting is better than buying from a breeder. In the end, he loads a tablet with a bunch of documentaries and docuseries about animals, habitats, endangered species- what that means, and consequently why and what causes these species to be dispearing- and why 'adopt don't shop' is a good thing. There is also a sorta kinda age-appropriate explanation for inbreeding of dogs and cats, and why Damian's new mixed breed, unknown origin cat might have better health, and live longer.
(The first time Bruce sees Damian cry, it's because of a Sarah Mclachlan commercial. Bruce full-on panics. This is how they adopt Titus from the shelter.)
Bruce is making an effort to Bond with His Child. Volunteering at the shelter sees a surefire way to end up with more adopted animals in his house. Alfred would not forgive him for turning the place into a zoo. Hence they go to the actual zoo.
Gotham Zoo... isn't great. There's a tiger who paces around an island of grass surrounded by cement, a few monkeys in artificial trees behind barred glass, some tropical birds, hyenas, a few tarantulae, some stick bugs, and a large pond of koi as a centerpiece to the zoo. It's small, run-down, the animals are healthy, but clearly not happy.
Damian is dismayed. Bruce is... tired and sad and wondering when the little things like the zoo he remembered so much better with rosy childhood memories became so run down.
Bruce buys the zoo.
Alfred is exasperated.
Damian is delighted. He spends more time with Bruce than ever, childhood joy and excitement and energy at the forefront as he shows Bruce all the bits and pieces he's picked up from documentaries, shows, and reading- all too happy to share his special interest with his father, knowing his ideas would be considered if not used.
That's how it starts.
Animal Welfare, and the zoo, become synonymous with the Wayne name by the time Haly's Cirus rolls into town. Bruce takes Damian to see the circus animals, the way they're trained, and the relationship with their caretakers and trainers. As well as assure Damian they're treated okay, and if they aren't, they'll do something.
(The moment he hears the snap of the rope, he's tucking Damian half under his curled body, covering his ears, desperately wishing he could be doing the same to the boy who seemed larger than life when he was flying through the air just moments ago. now he seems so very small.)
When Bruce adopts Dick, he buys Zitka the elephant from Haly's Circus. It means shipping an elephant across multiple states by the time he tracks down the circus, as well as having a proper habitat built in the slowly improving zoo, and hunting down some good and proper caretakers.
(Damian tries to bond with Dick by showing him his ever-growing collection of animal-related media on his tablet, but the older, grieving boy wants nothing to do with them.)
The first time Bruce takes Dick to the zoo, he's withdrawn the whole time, a little resentful over the 'bonding activity. then Bruce takes him to see the new elephant exhibit.
Dick cries when he sees Zitka, hugging her trunk.
They don't leave for hours.
(Dick hugs Damian when they do return to the manor. He asks about elephant documentaries. Damian is very pleased (smug) to say he has multiple he's willing to share.)
Going to the zoo is an everyday thing after that. Dick teaches the keepers there everything he knows about his beloved elephant, from favorite treats (she loves apples) to tricks he knows how to perform with her. Damian likes watching Dick play with Zitka like Damian plays with Titus.
Bruce ends up taking on more management items from the zoo purely because he's there so often. It's when he's staying late, glaring at the paperwork trying to strongarm him into giving up his tiger despite the old cat no longer being in his prime for breeding, that someone breaks in.
(It's Jason.)
Dick is sleeping in a hammock on the 'safe' (trainers) side of Zitka's enclosure, and he's pretty sure Damian is still religiously taking notes about the dusk activities of their python. Yet... there is a child. A child wearing a too-big red hoodie with tiger ears on the top. It's a hoodie sold in the gift shop downstairs, but this one is worn, old stains and frayed cuffs.
(It was his mothers. She took him to the zoo during one of her better moments, when she was sober, when the Waynes showed their completely redone tiger exhibit. it was no longer grass and cement and a feeding ball. It's trees and rocks and shaded areas of viewing glass, a modest sides piece of a tiger's natural habitat for their boy. He's been so much more lively, happier with space and enrichment and good care, drawing the eye of annoying management wanting to breed a tiger passed his prime because he acts like a kitten now.)
Jason broke in because he remembers there being a display of food by the cashier, and he's more likely to get away with stealing food from a closed zoo than any proper store.
Bruce gives him a packaged sandwich, and a bottle of milk, from the little fridge by the cash register. Then find a tiger-themed backpack among the dusty boxes of merchandise in the back rooms, fills it with water bottles, beef jerky, applesauce squeeze pouches, and 'granola bars' that are more like slightly healthier candy bars. He sneaks a board book called 'The Very Brave Little Lion' and a stuffed tiger in the bottom, despite the kid being older than Damian who 'was well passed the age for such simple things, father'.
It lasts Jason a few days on the streets, but he comes back every day for free kids admission to the zoo. It's safer than wandering the streets, and no one looks twice at the kid reading a library book on the bench. (If it's a board book sometimes, well. That's Jason's business.)
He falls asleep, tucked up against the viewing glass of the tiger enclosure, to be woken by Bruce making the nighttime rounds to see the animals before taking Damian home to go to bed. He takes three sons back to the manor that night.
(Bruce calls Jason his little tiger unironically. Jason allows this with token protests. Tigers led him to his new family, after all. Privately, he thinks it might've been his mom looking down on him. making sure he knew where to go when she was gone.)
Barbara comes to the Waynes by way of a protest. She's protesting zoos; animals shouldn't be entertainment, they should be in their natural habitat, outrage at the treatment of animals, at humanity abusing them for their own gain.
Bruce takes her around the zoo. Shows her the enrichment, the detailed meal plans for each and every animal. The habitats meant to be a piece of natural habitat in the city. The safety measures for both animals and humans. Their conservation efforts, their efforts to raise awareness of habitat loss, climate change, poaching, and more. The way their elephant herd may only be three large, but it's because there's a mother-daughter pair living with Zitka, and elephants grow their herds via family; when the mother or Zitka has babies, the herd will grow. Ideally, they'll have eight or more elephants, but they don't want to cause any upheaval with the current matriarch- no need to stress her or cause fighting with another, mature female wanting to lead the herd- or try to merge more families. If an orphaned elephant needs a home, but can't live in one of the sanctuaries meant to raise, then release orphaned elephants back in the wild, Gotham zoo will gladly take them, assuming the existing herd of three takes to them. Their other animals are solitary by nature. Other than the elephants, they haven't taken in any animals- from the wild, from confiscation with illegal pet trade, from other zoos- instead focusing on making the animals already there has the best life they could. Be it better food, habitats, enrichment, etc. these animals can't be released, so they do the best they can for them.
Then, Bruce takes Barbara to the office. He offers her a job. 'Be our moral compass, you can change the zoo from the inside. Do what's best for the animals. If that means a zoo is the only way that animal will survive, can you handle that?'
She can. She takes the job. She runs that office like she was born to. She likes digging dirt on any animal-related person she comes across. How do other zoos treat their animals? sanctuaries? Is conservation happening or is it breeding for public entertainment? Who's doing what's best for animals, and who needs the full force of animal welfare brought down on them? Turns out having the Gotham Zoo backing you makes animal activism more easily heard.
Barbara wants what's best for animals, no matter what. Sometimes that means human care. Sometimes that means release into the wild. She refuses to give up her values; in the ideal world, all animals would be wild, there would be no more zoos, no more captivity, except for the animals who wouldn't survive in the wild, and even then, it'd be more of a national park/haven situation for animals. That's the ideal- they aren't there yet, but Barbara will do what she can to make this zoo one less problem. One step closer to the idea.
Tim comes on a school field trip and just... never stops. He takes pictures of the animals, of their habitats, of every little detail he could get. The increased security for animal safety- no public getting into enclosures, little chance of someone 'dropping' something in. The plants found all around the world, and the different terrane carefully mimicked to make an animal's space as close to natural habitat as possible. Animals playing, sleeping, exploring, interacting. All of it.
(Poison Ivy keeps growing plans in their zoo, and Bruce has to pay for a lot of corporate clean-up before he gets a meeting with her to ensure she only grows safe plants for their animals, and only ones found in their natural habitats, please. she agrees, but only because the zoo if taking good care of the animal habitat plants, and has a whole program related to turning animal waste into fertilizer, which then goes back into green spaces in Gotham, including the plants at the zoo. They try to grow food for their animals, after all, instead of buying it where they can.)
Tim inadvertently gets photos of Harley Quinn stealing the hyena pair and takes them immediately to Bruce. Bruce gets the hyenas back. The Drakes do not get their son back. The little photographer is theirs, and his photos of the zoo if their number one advertisement strategy. Especially for the Scarlet Macaw flock- two paired birds and their eight collective offspring- which are Tim's favorite animals in the zoo. He loves the bright red of the bird's feathers.
He loves even more when the head keeper of the birds starts training him to train the birds. Dick, by now a full-grown elephant handler/keeper/trainer, is delighted by this kid who starts training brightly colored birds to do tricks for enrichment. Babs is less than pleased. Macaws, despite being kept as pets, are not domesticated animals. However, Tim approaches it more like falconry- these 'tricks' he's teaching aren't meant to be 'cool', they're meant to engage natural, wild behavior, in a safe, regulated way. Babs allows it, but keeps a close eye.
Cas is brought to the Waynes by the Justice League. Bruce has been lowkey funding them since they busted some black market animal trade going on, and arrested a bunch of poachers and people with 'exotic pets'. In turn, sometimes the league calls upon Bruce to find them various animal/habitat/climate experts to help them with something they've encountered. In this case, they encounter an alarming amount of various venomous snakes, being cared for by a mute, terrifyingly lethal girl. Cas gets to fly Air Superman to the zoo, because the league doesn't know what to do with all these snakes other than taking them to the only zoo they know well, and silently instructs reptile keepers on all the snakes. at least until they're put into zoos better equipped for them, or dubbed releasable into the wild by experts.
Cas never leaves, unlike most the snakes. She stays with the Waynes. So does a blind Black Mamba.
Cas is worryingly close to the snake. this never changes, but she reluctantly shifts to protective contact to ensure it's less likely she- or anyone else- will be bit by one of the most venomous snakes in the world.
(Steph walks into the Waynes life one day and never leaves. No one's really sure where she came from, but she's there, and they love her, so they don't care. She works more on the domestic animal side of things, which gets the whole family into ensuring Gotham's animal shelters are up to par with their standard for animal care. She's the Barbara of cats, dogs, ferrets, and other domestic pets. except more likely to bully people into better treatment rather than Babs shaming, throwing the law into their faces to get them shut down, to steadily ruining them in any number of ways.)
Duke comes on as a Veterinarian, intending to work with domestics, but there's an internship at the zoo and he takes it because how could he not? He works with the emperor tamarin monkeys there, and the funky mustache-wearing monkeys convince him to stay with the zoo even after he finished his degree.
Duke is also the one to convince Bruce to expand the zoo. He asks if they can look into expanding their primates via rescues; just keep an eye out to take any in, as the zoo hasn't taken in any animals except the elephants since Bruce bought it.
Bruce says he'll think about it. No chimps, though. Chimps are vicious, Bruce doesn't like them. Too violent, too triggering for him.
Bruce presents him with a family unit of golden lion tamarin rescued from a fire, deemed unreleasable due to various injuries and disabilities. Dick loves the bright golden orange monkeys.
Dick stays with his elephants, but he also gets to start working with rhinos. He loves a rhino named Exxy, who was rescued after poachers almost killed her for her horn. She lived, barely, but her snout is mutilated where her horn used to be. Dick thinks she's beautiful.
His favorite animal will forever be Zitka, however, closely followed by Zitka's baby with an elephant Superman brought to the zoo. Rescued from inhumane treatment in the south, in a privately owned theme park. He's a good bull, a gentle soul to Zitka's brightness, and their baby is precious. Dick stayed in the keeper's side of the elephant habitat most of Zitka's pregnancy and was the first to meet the baby after having been there when they were born. Dick loves them dearly.
(Dick names the baby 'Nightwing')
Jason prepares to beg for Bruce to take in a lion from New York. The male can't stay with the current pride there, having grown to the point he's competing with the pride leader for unrelated females in the pride, and they don't currently have the resources to keep him. Not when it means a new exhibit, plus finding him his own females to form a pride. Jason's tiger was passed his prime before Jason started getting his degree in animal sciences, and eventually, he had to be put down from age-related issues. He's been working with various animals in the park, but he misses working with big cats.
Bruce redoes the whole habitat previously housing Jason's beloved tiger, and soon Gotham Zoo is home to a lion named Rizu. (it means brave. Jason reads him the board book he's kept all this time on the ride from New York to Gotham.)
Tim slowly moves on from only training only red macaws, into raptors, then vultures. He still takes pictures, which are plastered all over the zoo, their advertisements, and sometimes travels to other approved zoos to take photos for them too. He likes his bird, however. They challenge him to challenge them. sometimes they're too smart for their own good. (Yes, he means the crows he's started training to pick up litter in exchange for treats. Don't tell Babs or Steph. They'll murder him.)
Cas gets some snakes back. Black Mama (her blind black mamba) is still her favorite, but she's loving the little group of pancake tortoises Bruce got her. (Green Arrow brought the Gotham zoo a chimp one of his 'not villains' had. Bruce refused to keep the chimp. He reached out to everyone on the approved list to find another place for the chimp- any place- and the only one that would take it would only do so if they took a group of pancake tortoises seized from illegal ownership. Bruce snapped the deal up quickly. No Chimps.)
In other news, completely unrelated, Green Arrow is not allowed in Gotham Zoo.
On the other hand, Black Canary and Wonder Woman are absolutely allowed at the zoo. Why? Because they brought Cass' Rosie to the zoo. Who's Rosie? A 132-pound (60kg) freshwater crocodile.
Rosie is Cas' baby.
Steph deals with all their acquisitions, ensuring their rescues, and works with Babs to get animals released. She still works mostly with domestic animals to ensure they're treated well, but she really likes busting black market, illegal pet trade/animal poaching, and making sure the animals find safe, healthy homes.
She finds Tim a toucan.
Tim loves his toucan. His name is Reed. He don't take no shit from crows and seems to be coordinating their efforts to keep the zoo litter free. (to the alarm of everyone else.)
As for Damian? For now, he's bouncing around working with any animal who needs him that day. He's looking into starting up a petting zoo with Steph, especially wanting to show alpacas and their story of domestication and treatment for wool. While waiting for everything to fall in place, he's working on the education part of the zoo. He's the driving force behind the department; from signage, to field trips, to fundraisers, to research. He wants everyone to know about animals, how they're threatened and could do their part to save them.
(He butts heads with Babs about zoos. He believes zoos, when done right, are great for animals. Babs is of the opinion all wild animals should be wild, no zoos, only sanctuaries when needed. Damian thinks that's unrealistic. They argue this many, many times. They never come to an agreement, nor budge their opinions, just go in circles until they're distracted from fighting.)
Eventually, he'll take over the zoo. Until then, he likes educating people.
...Where's Alfred, you ask? Exasperated his family spends more time in a zoo than at home. When he said the manor was turning into a zoo, he did not mean, go buy a zoo to spend more time in than at home. However, he loves his family, he loves what they're trying to achieve to better animal lives, and better the planet for animal habitats. He's proud of them. (And look, Master Bruce, all the children went to College. and finished. look at that.)
(He dearly loves the little group of penguins Bruce shyly got because they reminded him of Alfred.)

Hello, im new to dc and i was reading some Robin backstory but there's something i want to ask if you don't mind. I don't understand why Jason and Damian are hated as Robin? From what i read people can't accept Jason as Robin due to him being different than Dick but what's wrong with Damian? I see Tim being accepted despite fans anger over Jason before and he's the second most popular Robin next to Dick. I thought they'll do the same with Damian but it seems not? I understand that it's probably due to racism but is there other reason for that?
ok so. theres honestly not a simple answer to this but here we go
the thing about comics is that in the 90s there was a whole push for people wanting comics to be a little more mature and not just for kids so that adults could still read and enjoy them. and so all these kids/teenagers in the 90s were able to continue reading their favs as they grew up which is nice BUT it meant that they got very attached to tim as robin since he was robin for like. their whole childhood
so tim had a solo with 100+ issues and people loved it. and he was in things like young justice and teen titans that people also liked. and ofc he showed up in a lot of the iconic batman stories in the 90s. so then once damian comes along and is robin instead people in 2006 get upset because tim was their robin for years and they loved tim and now from their perspective tim is "forced" out of a robin role to make way for damian, leading them to hate damian (which is kind of the same thing that happened to jason, since dick had been the only robin so people loved dick for 50+ years then jason comes along and people are mad that hes not dick)
and damian was written like a moody 10 year old, and people hate when kids show emotions, so it led to people not liking damian since he was more emotional than tim and isnt a cut and clean robin
anyways damian also had some of the issues that people had to a lesser degree with jason, because damian way murderous when he first appeared. and jason (thanks to starlin) was okay with people dying. so basically they were a lil too okay with murder, again making them not a cut and clean robin and led to people not liking them
and THEN of course. we get into the racism. everyone always talks about how tim is the "relatable robin" because hes an upper-middle class white man which. um. sure. idc i wont get into that. but damian despite being drawn very white was not. not to mention the mischaracterization of talia leading to people being like "ooo damian is evil and terrible!" and people wanting their straight (lol) white boy robin back.
but thats a lot of what happened in the mid 2000s to make people not like him SO why dont people like him today!! (spoiler: the reasons are terrible)
basically a lot of people that havent actually read the comics today will love tim a lot and see that damian was mean to tim (tried to kill him. lol!) and say "grrr damian tried to hurt my sweet little tim 😡" without actually knowing or caring about damian.
then theres also the shit that still happens in the comics with damian in canon constantly being pit against batman and still wanting to kill ? like in teen titans 2016 he ran a private prison or something. idk i havent even read it because the idea sounds so stupid and i cant stand it. then in robin 2021 he was still willing to kill and all and was like "omg i dont have to hold back anymore 😍" because dc uses the same character arcs over and over and over and will never let damian get past wanting to kill 15 years ago
and of course. still the racism of people wanting damian to be a stereotype then getting mad at the stereotype that THEY shoved him into. and the same stuff from before
also a writer made damian say some homophobic stuff in like 2009 so to this day people are still like "wow.... hes homophobic.... hes going to kill jon for being bi...." despite damian not even being a little homophobic recently (except for what devin grayson did but shes going to hell for that anyways)
in summary. people all have their little beefs with damian for various reasons. its all petty shit and some racist shit and him not being the Golden Robin so people dont like him
