Easy on Me

I heard Adele's new song Easy on Me today. And the chorus specifically really stuck out to me, if you haven't heard it the lines are " Go easy on my baby I was still a child Didn't get a chance to Feel the world around me Had no time to choose what I chose to do So go easy on me"

I was a teen mom. I say was because I am 25 now. I remember the day that I found out I was pregnant, I was sitting in the school bathroom. I was a freshman at the end of my first year of high school and I was terrified. I had only slept with one person ever. I felt like I was letting everyone I knew and loved down. I wouldn't learn or realize that this wasn't solely my fault until years later.

I wish I could go back to her, to that 15 year old girl and let her know that we will be okay. That even though she is scared and hoping that for some reason she loses the baby, that we don't. We have a little girl 2 months before we turn 16. No he doesn't show up to the hospital, he doesn't want anything to do with our daughter for the first few years of her life, but you know what? We make it. Even in our darkest moments when we thought it would be better to end things we get through it. And we don't listen to the people who told us someone else should raise our girl. She is almost 10 now and as I type this she is in the Livingroom listening to our favorite music. Top of her class and beautiful both inside and out.

We have traveled to places a younger me never thought we would be able to see and we are doing so good. There is still struggle and like the lyrics above, ti doesn't feel like I have felt much of the world around me. I am finding myself though.

Here's to growing and becoming the woman 15 year old me dreamed of being before I thought my life was over.
