There's something out of place in Wellwood forest, and a mismatched pair of someones chasing after it.

Bowman Leafwing wouldn't be the patrolsprite he is if he didn't investigate. It's hardly his fault that it leads to a much bigger adventure than he anticipated!

How could he plan ahead for travel through time and space?

Prompt #30 DP X DC

Danny, as ghost king, gets pulled into a summons with a group of different superheroes (can be all bats, justice league, young justice, titans, etc, whatever) as sacrifices to him. The summoning circle however is not big enough, and he ends up borrower sized and not very intimidating.

Or, alternatively it’s too big and he’s 75 feet tall and looks like the most intimidating mf ever.

He doesn’t have a choice to take the sacrifices, and they end up in his castle until he can get them back to where they’re supposed to be. Unfortunately, he stays at the size he was summoned in because of magic bullshit

Trying to transliterate Leara's name into Quenya, and it somehow becomes, uh,

Lëarra

Which basically means "You Sealion!"

And I'm just, "Oh yes, this is That Sealion Woman, and she can breathe fire, as all sealions do."

If Leara, for any reason at all, needed an actual Quenya or Sindarin name for any fun Elvish shenanigans, we'll just use Calairie/Calearil, which is "Light of the Sea" in Quenya and Sindarin, and what Leara actually means.

Okay mentioning some of this again as I’ve got some newer Vorkosigan fans around here, who are not familiar with the Lore (TM):

- LMB is a Fandom Old. If you’re ever squinting at something in the books and going “surely that’s not a reference to X?” Yes. Yes it is.

- Captain Simon Illyan is an acknowledged expy of Ilya Kuryakin from Man from UNCLE. The serial numbers are still pretty visible in the early days.

- “Let me help. Rhymes with I love you, right?” - yes this is a The City on the Edge of Forever ST:TOS reference, she’s very much a Trekkie.

- if you’re missing extra published Cordelia and Aral content and you’ve run through AO3, they can also be found as acknowledged expies in Jim Butcher’s Codex Alera. You’re looking for High Lord Placidus Sandos and High Lady Placida Aria, if you really want to see Aral and Cordelia as badass fire mages.

Borrower!Yuu

Hehe imagine what it'd be like for a Borrower!Yuu in all the different dorms,,,

Heartslabyul would be great for a borrower to stay hidden and pick up bits and pieces of forgotten materials and food! With so many students, it may be difficult to hide in the daytime, but Riddle's strict curfew and schedule means that there are set times where it's safe to explore and borrow! (Not to mention the small crumbs and pastries that keep being left out!)

Savanaclaw wouldn't be as great - the heightened senses of the beastmen who reside there makes it a more hazardous environment... However, there are empty rooms that are used as dumping grounds for stuff the students no longer want - which makes it perfect for borrowing materials! And a certain lazy housewarden might leave out enough food to borrow from now and then (just don't wake the sleeping lion!)

Octavinelle is risky. The merfolk could have heightened senses - and any borrower worth their salt knows not to borrow things that will be missed... That means that borrowing food would have to be kept in dorm rooms and student snack supplies with how much attention Azul pays to his business' food supplies. Luckily enough, there's a particularly messy room that tends to have opened packets of crisps and biscuits left paying around... (Just avoid the scary twins who live there...)

Scarabia is a difficult one... Chances are, the newer building and more open floor plan means that there'd be fewer places to hide and travel around the dorm safely without being spotted or ending up underfoot. If a borrower could find a way to traverse the area, they may be able to live well enough after leftover food and discarded, yet still perfectly usable, fabric from clothes that... Just seem to need a quick wash. How wasteful...

Pomefiore could provide plenty of hiding places with all of the decor and large pieces of furniture. There are likely one or two very detailed dollhouses somewhere in the dorm (of course a borrower could never take anything from one, but it's nice to walk through and have a taste of what it might be like to be as big as he humans...) And the kitchens are likely not as closely guarded as some others (although the lack of snack foods that are easy to pilfer could prove difficult... Not to mention the feeling of watching eyes when trying to borrow at night sometimes... Odd...)

Ignihyde is a goldmine if borrowing is timed right! No students running through the halls together or hanging out in the living space that could spot you, just a bunch of shut-ins keeping to themselves and with messy rooms where things are bound to get lost or forgotten. If a borrower is lucky enough, they'll be able to get their hands on some tech to play around with. With the quietness of the place and the easily accessed food storage for borrowing, a borrower could probably live decently enough in Ignihyde. (Just avoid that robot boy - who knows how he might react to a borrower...)

Diasomnia seems like it'd be quite cold - with old walls that may have had previous inhabitants who could've left behind all manner of ladders and pulley systems for future borrowers to use. There's often plenty of ingredients left out that Yuu could borrow scraps from after certain students - like the one with pink and black hair - leave them out after cooking. And despite the coolness of the environment, there are enough hidden and abandoned rooms where, if they brave the clouds of dust, a borrower can gain plenty of materials for bedding and whatnot.

It'd be really funny for the cool, calm and collected ones to be horrified by their chaotic and unpredictable variations lmao (with color palette changes based on the cover art to help tell them apart)

Parallel Play Week 2024

Day 1 - Fairytales

Woe, Parallel Play Week 2024 be upon ye! (For those uninitiated this is when I borrow the prompts of another ship week and play alongside them with my own blorbos because there's no one who will do a ship week with my obscure crossover ship and sometimes it's just nice to feel like a part of something. I will sit quietly in my corner and not disturb the ship week tags though.)

I searched for a bunch of different cultural fairytales that might have fit this prompt, but in the end I succumbed to my baser desires and made a Transistor AU, so it's more "Fiction" than "Fairytale."

I imagine the Akatsuki being the Camerata in this AU. Itachi is obviously Royce Bracket, Pain and Konan I think make a decent Grant and Asher Kendrell, and it would be really interesting for Sasori to be Sybil Reisz. You can insert any ship thoughts you would like in there, but I think he's the Akatsuki member most suited to being a flying multi-armed glitch monster.

So...remember these guys?

If you don't, I announced a good while back we don't have to talk about how long ago that this is from the first, and as yet only, collaborative AU of BTaS called Borrowed Magic!

This was actually my first shot at writing collaboratively, which I've done quite a bit of since then with my good friends. My cowriter for Borrowed Magic, @neonthewrite, lent me her sprite guy to throw at my borrower and Time Lord to see if they stuck. This was huge for me, since one of my formative internet g/t experiences was reading Bowman of Wellwood back when it was still posted on DA, before she got it properly published. Needless to say, being friends and writing buddies with her was and still is a huge honor!

Anyway, enough of my gushing! I'm here to officially say that this is finally going to start posting! The first story is titled Lost in Flight, and it'll go up on Archive of our Own and post on Thursdays at 5pm central time, starting next week on October 5th!

Fic summary:

When one family seems lost another comes back from the past. But does Buck want to return to the past or live in the present? And does his present lead to a future he wants? Only he can answer these questions but Steve at least will be there to support him.

Tags/warnings: kidnapped eddie, first draft, NavySeal!buck, alternative universe, timeline what timeline?, set vaguely season 3 911 and I’m not giving a time frame for H50 (because it wouldn’t make sense anyway). Written while sleep deprived.

Danny rubs his temples, fighting off a looming headache. He’s been staring at his own terrible cramped handwriting for hours. Steve’s fingers replace his, and he lets his eyes close with a groan as Steve rubs his neck and temples.

“You got another headache?” Steve’s voice is gentle and soft. He’s practically sitting on Danny’s desk as he hovers, but Danny doesn’t care. They’re alone in the office, and if Steve wants to touch him, Danny’s going to let him.

“Yeah.”

“I can get you some ibuprofen or Tylenol?”

“Took some with the Alka-Seltzer earlier.” Danny will pay for Steve to keep up the neck massage he’s giving. Steve’s fingers are digging into the knot that had been forming between Danny’s shoulders, and when it releases, he bites his tongue to stop from moaning.

“You didn’t eat.” There’s disapproval and worry in Steve’s tone.

“Wasn’t hungry.”

He wasn’t.

“This has been sitting out too long now. Do you want me to order something?”

“Let me rephrase. I am not hungry right now, nor was I.”

Steve chuckles, and his fingers find another knot, working into Danny’s left shoulder that he’d slept on last night on the sofa for a few hours. He’s ignoring Danny’s grumbling like usual.

“These headaches of yours worry me.”

Danny opens his eyes at this. Steve is close—closer than he’d thought. He’s wrapped himself around Danny, and they’re not touching other than where Steve’s hands are still rubbing his shoulders, but he can feel his body heat because Steve is that close.

Steve’s observing Danny, waiting for him to say something about the concern he’d voiced, and Danny is floundering with what to say. He stupidly lands on, “They’re just headaches.”

“You’ve been getting a lot of them.”

“I get them when I’m stressed.”

“You get them less when you sleep over.”

“That’s because I sleep better at your place,” slips out before he can take the words back.

“Why?”

It’s an innocuous question. Why? Why, indeed.

He has his theories. Danny had slept better when he was still married and sharing a bed with Rachel, and he could roll over and cuddle with her, listening to her breathe. He slept worse when alone because he hated being alone. It’d never been a problem until he and Rachel had started having problems, and she’d kicked him to the couch most nights, denying him coldly.

Danny was like a dog that needed a companion or otherwise would tear things apart out of anxiety—he needed another heartbeat to listen to in the night. Sleeping at Steve’s and knowing he was just upstairs or hearing his footsteps when he got up at night to do his patrols around the house that Steve swore he didn’t do but Danny had watched him do every night he’d slept over unless Steve was drugged or concussed… there was a rhythm to those nights. They usually watched a movie after dinner or a game and sat too close on the couch because Danny was too tactile, and Steve seemed to crave touch as much as Danny needed to give it.

Confessing this to Steve, however, was probably not in Danny’s best interest. Knowing Steve, he’d have Danny moved in by the end of the week, and Danny needed just a little bit of space for when Steve would inevitably find either another woman or Cath would finally wander back his way.

Danny didn’t need a front-row seat to Steve choosing a leggy brunette or blonde over him. He was already going to be too close, and it would hurt when it finally happened. If Steve is talking to Cath, then… she will probably come back at some point. Danny hadn’t known they’d still been talking after she left him in Afghanistan a year ago to go chasing after missing villagers and hadn’t wanted Steve’s help.

But he has no idea of the scientist lurking in the shadows, who had been looking for a new test subject for a long time, and who has so many plans for the vampire who walked right into his trap.

🐹 Borrower Basil AU

Instead of a little talking mouse, Basil is a tiny, 4 inch tall borrower living in the walls home to a reclusive scientist. She gets caught, like all borrowers do, but instead of being put in a cage and experimented on like she thought, her and Anton actually become friends! Years later, Basil is working alongside Anton, as his little lab assistant helping with whatever strange and bizarre experiments he comes up with.

Dew and his best friend (and crush), Hayden, are walking alone one night and find themselves in the wrong place at the wrong time as they are beamed up into a curious alien’s spaceship. Anton (the alien) is fascinated by humanity and wants to learn as much as he can about his new test subjects in the only way he knows how: unethical experimentation! Hayden had always loved aliens, space, and the supernatural, and is adamant on somehow befriending the alien. Dew is scared out of his mind and wants nothing but to escape and go home to Earth, but can’t stand the idea of abandoning his best friend in the vast, infinite abyss of space.

🥼 Role Reversal AU

A role reversal AU created by @vidawhump where Dew is a scientist in an organization run by Sawyer and his goal, alongside his scientist friends, is to make all sorts of cool body modifications possible and safe. He needs a test subject for this of course, so he kidnaps Anton from his reclusive home in the middle of the woods and secretly tests out all of his unsafe body mods on him. Anton is extremely defiant and sassy here, wanting to get home to his animal friends, Basil and Sasha, while Dew has to keep all this a secret.

🌲 TLLR x UARAD crossover

A TLLR x UARAD crossover AU where Anton “rescues” Ruaridh after they were abandoned in the woods, and brought them to his lab to be a new test subject. Ruaridh and Dew become roommates, and they also become friends because they both are so incredibly lonely. Ru is also an unhinged creature who doesn’t have much of a memory. Hijinks ensue. (Ruaridh and Uilebheist A Rinn An Duine belong to @inkwell-and-dagger)

🦉 The Owl House AU

Basically a crack au that takes place in the universe and world of the owl house. Dew is basically Luz, and finds himself in the demon realm while wandering (or taken) through a strange portal door. Anton, basically Eda, is very fascinated with humans and decides to keep Dew and try to teach him magic until he can get the portal fixed. totally (he’s not letting him go). except everything gets a lot more complicated because Pierce is Belos and like, imagine something that makes absolutely 0 sense for a second: imagine if Hunter somehow escaped Belos and was on the run, and he figured out how to practice wild magic, and he was obsessed with humans and lived in the owl house (and Eda never existed). that’s basically Anton here. so he simultaneously plays the role of Hunter and Eda and im sure i sound absolutely insane right now but i don’t care. am i ever going to write anything with this? no

🌀 unnamed vampire!Anton au that has been rotating in my brain like a rotisserie chicken

An AU where Anton enthralls Dew. But he also enthralls Aspen! And me! And you! Might just write something for all four of those scenarios, I have no idea yet, but I desperately need a possessive gentle vampire Anton to hypnotize someone and suck their blood soooo bad. It would heal me. Putting it here to force me to write something eventually.
