If you can gather from the QOTD, I am sick...again. I kind of knew I was going to get sick earlier last week because I had a student come in super sick and would touch their nose and touch other things even when we kept trying to tell the student to blow their nose, wash their hands, or even use handsanitizer. I legit told my boss early last week that if I get sick you know why. Well, guess what?! About mid-day Wednesday, I started to get a runny nose and was like crap. Then, on Thursday I woke up with a sore, dry throat and was really fatigued. If I moved around just a little I would break out in a sweat and get cold chills. I got dizzy too so I went home early from work and even tested for COVID and was negative. I stayed home yesterday and today I just feel blah. I'm tired, my nose is driving me nuts with it being runny and congested, and now I am starting to get a bad cough...yay...

I forgot to mention I learned I lost my sense of taste and smell when I went to go eat breakfast-so I'll be retesting later today. I felt pretty good this morning though aside from that and decided well let's go get some photos taken just in case I get sicker and I had some photos I absolutely had to take. I went to grab somethings and then started to take pictures and that is when the annoying cough happened and the fatigue. So, I will be going to take a nap very soon. Riot has been sticking to me like glue and will not leave my side. I mean he is usually clingy but he's clingier than normal right now.

Anywho, I was going to make this the first thing after the QOTD but I did not so without furtherado:

My non-spoilery review of the Ever King.

4⭐️

Started strong but fizzled out a bit towards the middle and end for me.

I actually did like the characters and some of their relationships but I felt the plot could have been more front and center. At times I wasn’t sure exactly where it was going.

I also feel like the story itself lacked the depth I would have liked to see more of whether that was the relationships or the high stakes involved. I never really felt myself being lost to the story or the love between characters because I wasn’t really feeling the emotions, I was being told of them.

This is a true enemies to lovers story, which is surprisingly rare considering how popular the trope is. I will likely continue the series but I don’t have a strong pull towards finishing it either way.

Edit: Thought about this a bit more and changing rating to a 3.75

The Ever King was a fresh take on Fae that I highly enjoyed. Plus, there were pirates and unique capabilities for the sea fae.

The Ever King starts off with a bang with a semi- slow burn between Erik and Livia. Their relationship was well done and ended up hot but at the same time on the sweater side. The thing I mostly loved about their relationship is how Erik sees Livia as an equal instead of being superior to her. Both of them would seek out the goodness in one another as well as make each other better.

The last half of the book had me on the edge of my seat because so much crap was going on to the point that I needed to know what would happen next and how everything would

be handled.

I am seriously looking forward to the sequel because the Ever King leaves off with a serious, cliffhanger.

Pick up the Ever King if you enjoy Sarah J. Maas, Jennifer L. Armentrout, and the Gilded Prisoner series.
