Day sixteen of my Birthday Month Art Prompt Challenge! Today’s prompt was: Poppy.

Poppy flowers are symbols of remembrance, death and lost love. It’s a fandom headcannon that while jewels hold symbolic meaning to Dwarrow, flowers do the same for Hobbits. With this in mind, I decided maybe Bilbo left a Poppy flower, as a kind of offering to honor his King. If his other Dwarrow found this odd, they did not comment on it, nor did they allow any of Dain’s folk to remove the blossom, on pain of serious injury. I’m sure the more clever and/or more sensitive members of the Company, such as Balin or Bofur, figured it out on their own.
