So. In light of recent chapters, I've seen a lot of people saying that Izuku is going to permanently lose OFA. While this is a deliciously angsty concept, I disagree with them on it being canon. So here's my evidence for "bkdk are going to be dual holders you idiots".
First, the obvious - Heroes: Rising. With the movie now confirmed to be canon, this means that Izuku has not only canonically transferred OFA and gotten it back, he has done so with Katsuki specifically.
Now, the reason Izuku keeps OFA in that instance is, according to All Might, that Katsuki passed out before the transfer could be complete. However, this answer has always bugged me - why in the world would it work like that? How long does a transfer take, anyway? How long do you have to stay awake? Here's my proposal - All Might was wrong. But I'm going to put a pin in that for now, and return to it later with more evidence.
Next, these two illustrations for the Fantasy AU.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The image on the left depicts All Might wielding a large sword - a representation of One For All. In the image on the right, the sword has changed hands. And who has it, now?
Izuku, yes, but not just Izuku. The sword has been split. And it's none other than Katsuki Bakugou who holds the other half. This is a motif shown more than once in official art and manga panels - something representing One For All being split or shared between Izuku and Katsuki. I'll touch on that more in a moment.
Dual wielders.
Our third piece of evidence is the whole "win to save, save to win" motif.
Tumblr media
Not only are Izuku and Katsuki fundamentally a pair, they are the thing that completes each other and pushes the other to be their best. Win to save and save to win, two halves of a true hero. Without each other, they cannot become the "ultimate heroes". They do their best work together.
For our fourth piece of evidence, I bring you this set of panels from Katsuki's revival chapter.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Note the bottom panel in the first image, specifically - Toshinori standing in the background, holding a glowing ball, and little Izuku and Katsuki holding matching glowing balls in the front. The next panel reveals the All Might trading cards they both received, but it's clear that this is not a literal image. This is another example of Horikoshi representing One For All with something else - in this case, the balls of light and the cards. Why else would Toshinori be holding his own glowing orb?
Additionally, in the second image, both Izuku and Katsuki take up roughly the same amount of space on the page. This gives them equal visual weight, and once again gives the impression of equality and balance. Pairing this imagery with the "beginning" part of the "end of an era and the beginning of a new one" bit shows that they will be a duo, continuing on All Might's legacy together.
Our final piece of evidence (for now) is Kuudo's words to Banjo and Yoichi.
Tumblr media
Let me call back to my first point. The explanation that Katsuki didn't get OFA because he passed out during the transfer never sat right with me. I don't think that's what happened.
I think One For All chose to stay with Izuku, and this set of panels backs me up. The other holders - some of them, at least - are staying with Izuku, despite him giving One For All to Katsuki. They have enough agency to do that.
One For All is not leaving Izuku.
Kuudo has asked Banjo to stay with Izuku, and Yoichi to watch over him. The quirk isn't leaving Izuku - it's expanding. Kuudo will likely still be within the vestige world himself, but like Banjo staying at Izuku's side to help him, Kuudo will be with Katsuki.
In conclusion (for now);
One For All is and will always be Izuku's quirk. It's just Katsuki's quirk, too, now.

panel from when All Might was explaining the quirk-
Looking back now it looks suspiciously like Yoichi’s sleeve
It sure could be! Chapter 257 gives us some good views of AFO “crushing the strong”, and I know there were a few theories that the panel of him standing atop rubble was depicting him having killed Yoichi, Kudou, and Third at the same time. That theory doesn’t hold true after 406-07, when it’s made clear Yoichi died before Kudou. And, assuming the force choke scene is in fact where AFO kills Kudou, then Third already has OFA and is offscreen somewhere, so the three are not dying at the exact same time. But it’s still possible this scene is showing Yoichi dying and Kudou being injured before AFO catches Kudou and finishes the job, and AFO will chase Third shortly after.
Tumblr media
That said, I’m not convinced the clothing presentation is always identical, or that a light colored long sleeve means it MUST be Yoichi. On the next page of Ch.257, we see Shinomori passing OFA to Banjo (note the shoulder guard that Banjo has and Third does not), then Banjo to En’s hand, and finally En to Nana’s (gloved?) hand. Banjo’s sleeve is completely ripped up by the time he’s reaching out for En.
Tumblr media
Shinomori’s clothing looks a little different on the left side vs the right. It’s almost like the right arm of his cropped jacket was torn off but his Under Armour stayed snugly in place. It’s hard to tell if that’s by his design or after a fight or what.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
As for Kudou and Third, Kudou typically has long, dark sleeves and Third wears short sleeves but has light colored wraps from wrist to elbow (which could look like a sleeve if torn up).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Anyway, if you’ve read this far, the point is that we haven’t yet seen on-screen what, exactly, happened with Yoichi, Kudou, and Third after they un-vaulted (de-vaulted?) Yoichi. We know AFO was nearby or was somehow watching Yoichi escape, so he was able to give chase pretty quickly. But the sequence of events that led to the deaths of the first three wielders — basically the entire time until Shinomori disappeared into the forest with OFA for 18 years — is still quite mysterious. That excites me because it means there’s more to come!!!

While I am well aware the series is complete on Ao3, what’s your take on if the parent summoning quirk in Forgiveness is the attribute of the strong got confused and- instead of just summoning Hisashi and Yoichi, also summoned all of the other OfA wielders, as they were when they first got the quirk?
For the sake of not sinking my duo/trioholders ship, Yoichi gets summoned when he first got the stockpiling quirk too, as an adult. Hisashi is the only child because it turns out he stole stockpiling when he was only five years old.
Going by his canon backstory, Hisashi is extremely feral. The other vestiges realize pretty quickly who he is and freak out. Yoichi begs them not to tell anyone because he's scared of what the HPSC might do to his child brother. They agree reluctantly, but they will at least tell All Might. That will have consequences.
Adult Yoichi is very protective of his brother in this AU, partly because he got summoned before he completely lost hope in his brother and partly because everyone else's hostility makes him feel defensive. Yoichi doesn't remember Second and Third, since he got his quirk before he met him. But they remember and love him so there's a lot of awkward pining.
Little Hisashi does not recognize adult Yoichi and freaks out about his brother being gone. Yoichi manages to convince him by talking in twin language. However Hisashi is not thrilled that his little brother got bigger than him. He keeps looking for a power to shrink Yoichi back down.
Nana does not remember Toshinori. Again, she got summoned when she first accepted One for All. Mentally she is younger than him. However the two of them still instantly hit it off and become friends.
Banjo and En decide they want to become heroes again. They team up. Hikage just leaves to go back to the forest. No one can find him. Banjo is the first to warm up to little Hisashi, he thinks the kid is funny. Hisashi keeps climbing all over Banjo to steal his quirk, but all past OFA holders have access to OFA's power and are immune. Banjo mistakes all this grabbing for affection.
Adult AFO still wants Yoichi more than anything else in the world. As a secondary priority, he'd love to kill Second again. That said, with nine One for All holders alive, he has to move a lot more cautiously.
The monopoly games are legendary. One such game results in Might Tower being burned down.

The original Destro was active at the same time as the third OFA wielder, so what if Destro became the third wielder instead. Fa Jin doesn't really add anything anyway
Destro was all for total freedom of Quirk Use and then made eye contact with All For One and said "on second thought." He ends up joining Team Kill All For One alongside Second and the Fa Jin User. (Neither of them have canon names yet btw)
We're going to give Destro a Quirk based on Re-Destro's Stress but not quite. Ebullience is basically just the Stress Output Burden move. You stockpile emotional energy and pool it all into a blast move.
Destro and Second were incredibly effective as a duo because Second could use Gearshift to make Ebullience more dangerous. As such, it was Destro who was sent on the Kill Yoichi Mission that ended up a Rescue Yoichi Mission.
Sadly, Ebullience is not enough to save Destro from AFO when he ends up the third holder.
The MLA does not exist in the modern day, or at least not in the same way as canon thanks to Destro being busy trying to murder a chuuni

BNHA Rewrite: One For All
The Quirk Itself
Possesses a nebulous sentience of its own beyond even the Vestiges.
Can drain the lifespan of its wielders, but only if they had an incompatible/insufficient Quirk Factor (Which I HC as the ‘hard drive’ that allows the proper processing of quirks).
Is remodeling Izuku’s Quirk Factor as it acclimates to him.
Facets of its past users passively manifest in the current users, such as All Might’s muscle form being an evolution of Stasis Field, his smoke being a manifestation of Scattersmoke, and his weather changing punches being a weird combo of Float & Scattersmoke’s TK properties.
‘Determination is anger given a direction and purpose.’ Attracted to anger, and subconsciously pushes its users to single-mindedly pursue their goals (eg. ‘Be the #1 hero’, ‘Hide’,) with ‘Defeat AFO’ being a constant.
Signs of the power taking root were increased versatility of Quirks & glowing eyes.
Torchbearers
1st-Yoichi Shigaraki
Bearer for 4 years
Quirk: OFA
Trans man, has beef w/ AFO over it.
Anger over his circumstances, over AFO for mishandling it while ALSO trying to take over the world.
2nd-TBD-Gearshift
Bearer for 7 years.
Quirk: Gearshift-Inertia alteration via a series of series of ‘Gears’. Could halt, double or alter the direction of kinetic energy acting upon an object, with a brief ‘overdrive’ that enhanced physical abilities.
Ex-JSDF sniper, wore a gas mask. Used Gearshift to perform trick shots
Saved Yoichi and Third during a raid on AFO’s compound, an endeavour only he survived.
3rd-N/A-Adamant
Bearer for 14 years
Quirk: Stasis Field-Manipulation of the body’s bioelectric field to maintain body in a certain state, used as a shield and healing factor.
Psuedo hero. Wore a hooded mini cape, monk clothing/armour, and wielded a bo staff.
She led the rebellion following 2nd’s death, oversaw AFO’s first defeat and the first generation of heroes.
4th-Hikage Shinomori-The Beast of Miyajima
Bearer for 25 years
Quirk: Danger Sense-Can pinpoint danger and harm towards the user, can be expanded to see all possible harm into a certain area.
‘Costume’ was a mix of rags, animal skins and military surplus body armour.
Technically a villain, fought government agents and even Crimson Riot.
5th-Daigoro Banjo-Lariat
Bearer for 4 years
Quirk: Backwhip-Same as canon.
Dresses more like a cowboy, including tassles on his jacket and a stetson.
Worked alongside Crimson Riot, and was part the generation of heroes that began to resemble modern Hero Society.
6th-Enma Rokuya-Smokebomb
Bearer for 6 years
Quirk: Scattersmoke-Generation and limited control of smoke who could scatter the attention and dull the senses of anyone who inhales.
Heteromorphic mouth similar to a vent. Black, high collared jacket.
Vigilante who fought against Yakuza. Favoured a katana in a fight and was willing to kill.
7th-Nana Shimura-Skywalker
Bearer for 15 years
Quirk: Float-Could essentially ‘repel’ gravity and control it’s effects on her. Usually used it to fly, but could essentially invert gravity to repel blows and extend her blows into ranged attacks.
Glasgow smile from a fight, nicknamed ‘Smiley’ by Torino, leaned into it.
Costume had red detailing instead of yellow.
8th-Toshinori Yagi-All Might
Bearer for 40 years.
I’ll detail him in a separate post
9th-Izuku Midoriya-Deku/Dekiru
His own interpretation of the powers is basically a series of dials (inspired by a talk with Mirio) tied to an immense, but still limited, power source.
This involves strength, speed, cushioning his bodies against blows, a healing factor. and the other Torchbearer’s Quirks.
For example, he could toggle OFA to put all his power in Float and Blackwhip, but he’d lose his superhuman strength.
The problem is that a) His body still needs time training and using the quirk to adapt to its full power, and the fact that B) he has to learn how to properly toggle it.
Unfortunately, he’s initially operating on all or nothing mindset that has him constantly putting all his power into every blow.
He ends up unlocking the other Quirks in reverse order.
There’s more to say, but I’ll detail them in a later post.
Influence on Izuku’s final costume.
Red gauntlets/greaves with grooves to allow Blackwhip, armour on shoulder & hips, derived from Nana & All Might.
X glow from OFA derived from two.
Goggles from 5th.
Vented rebreather to release Scattersmoke from 6th.
Marie Antoinette streak in hair like Yoichi.
Mouth scar in the shape of Fourth’s Danger Sense.
Yellow mini cape from Nana & Third.

I was waiting for the official translation but, I am still pissed that the Second and Third former OFA wielders felt the need to keep their quirks from Izuku for so long when theirs could have very easily just passed off as the stockpiled power of OFA and could have been used whileIzuku was learning to control the percentages of OFA. But, I am glad that the Bakugo/Kirishima time travel plot was abandoned because I am sure that Izuku would have just got their quirks and put them in the OFA vault.
I am very curious as to why Izuku couldn't use Second's quirk before arriving. Very curious.
But in any case, Second and Third refusing to give Izuku their quirks during Jakku mean that they bear a part of responsibility in Shigaraki being able to flee to fight another day.

Permanently grumpled that they more or less retconned themselves at the end of the third movie.
How amazing would it be for One For All to grow as a quirk the way every other quirk does??? Like the base quirk itself not every other quirk contained in it.
I think it actually would have made more sense to keep that. Like...in times of great danger, the wielder of OFA can temporarily share their power with others around them. Its not as overwhelmingly powerful as the original quirk, and the temporary wielders don't get added to OFA's soul roster, but for however long it lasts, they all *feel* connected and are able to work as a unit in a way they never have before. OFA enhances their base quirk while also granting enhanced strength and speed. Like the equivalent of Full Cowling at 5%. The effect lessens the more its shared, but it can be shared with up to like... 25 people before it starts to weaken noticeably. The temporary users would still need to be careful as OFA could still easily have them hurting themselves, but given to experienced people, it would be a tool that turned the tides of a battle.
I dunno I just think that would be a cool way to keep the power of friendship angle present in this series, while also making maximum usage of naming a quirk fucking One For All. Plus, can you imagine Class A all linked together through OFA taking AFO apart like they were fucking born for it??? Imagine these kids moving like a tidal wave toward that old man, how powerful of a pannel it would be to see every single one of them glowing bright with their own colors brought out by OFA, perfectly in sync with each other with Deku and Bakugou leading the charge??? Imagine the sheer *fear* in AFO's heart at the sight. Do you think he'd see his brother instead??
Anyway I just thought that would be neat.

Chapter Thoughts: 369 – A Chain of Events, Across the Ages
O  We open with the scene soon after Yoichi’s murder, one assumes?  AFO’s stone-still face with the tears running down it is a good image, but I think what’s even more interesting is the reversal of what’s typically shaded: usually in the flashbacks, it’s his eyes that are masked, while his gabbing mouth is perfectly visible.  Here, it’s the reverse, with his eyes clear, but the lower half of his face wrapped in shadow.  Nothing to say in that moment of all moments, eh, AFO?
O  Extremely consistent outfits on the (presumably) dead at AFO’s feet, I notice.  Wrapped forearms, a number of do-rags, tac vests, cargo pants—all very paramilitary vibes, as one might expect from a group of people preparing to go up against a guy none of them have strong enough individual powers to take on.  So I assume these were comrades of Second and Third, who dress much the same—I wonder how they split up for this?  That is, did any of them go with Third to get OFA away, or did they all stay with Second to buy time and get slaughtered for it?  (I hope the latter, but mostly because I like an edgy hardened Third.)
O  That flash to the embers of OFA amidst the snow is DAMN GOOD.  Lord, that all fights with AFO could be half as good as the Kamino fight.
O  VFO being so insistently confused as to why he's able to see the OFA vestiges is a little odd? Like, later on, Yoichi will tell Deku that AFO and OFA are resonating, which I would think would be a perfectly apt explanation, though I suppose it is a change to the usual vestige realm AFO is perhaps more accustomed to. Still, he could "hear" his brother's voice from miles and miles away all the way back during Joint Training, before he ever even met Deku in person, so you wouldn't think this would be so incredibly bizarre to him. Maybe he's just distracted by all the pummeling?
O  Christ, I really just do not buy this whole schpiel about how it isn’t the quirks within OFA that AFO should have been wary of.  Not after all the build-up and razzmatazz about it every time Deku unlocks a new one, and definitely not after three laborious pages of Deku combining all of them into Unlimited Whoopass Works.
You know what really gets to me about this?  Okay, so Second here says that it’s not the meta-abilities themselves AFO should have been wary of, but rather the intent of their wielders, that the intent of a power determining its effectiveness is why those powers are called kosei, quirks, “personality.”  Any quirk carries the vestige of its original wielder, a literal will that lingers within the power and can be aligned for or against a new bearer.  I can see the shape of what Horikoshi’s getting at here, especially since the text is clearly framing all this as being in large part about Izuku’s intent.
But it all falls so flat when Izuku’s internal monologue just runs off the powers he’s combining by the name of the power, rather than identifying the will, the individual, whose power he’s calling on.  How can I be expected to believe that it isn’t the quirk that counts, but rather the individual behind it when the narrative reduces those individuals to numbers in a line?  When the story cares more about us knowing the names of all Deku’s sick reality-warping magic powers than it does about him knowing the names of the people he got them from?
Please bring back the BNHA that we had when Class 1-A teamed up to lovingly hand Deku his ass, ASAP.  That’s a scene that would have earned this intent-over-power sentiment.
O  AND ALSO.  As a self-designated MLA Propagandist, I’m afraid I cannot let this rampant historical revisionism slide.  In point of fact, people “call them quirks” because, generations ago, a bunch of government officials pulled a nice-sounding line from the mouth of a dead woman to justify passing a bunch of restrictive laws that were precisely the opposite of what said dead woman—and her very much alive and pissed-off orphan son—had been advocating for.
O  Anyway, it sure is a good thing that Izuku can precisely calibrate the level of force with which he can savage this person he nominally wants to save such that the damage will merely frustrate VFO rather than killing Shigaraki via the time-honored manga method of punching a gaping hole in his chest.  Accidentally killing him because he used 120% of OFA when Ujiko only modified Shigaraki to be able to handle 118% would certainly be awkward! (I continue to hate Deku beating up Shigaraki as any kind of preface to "saving" him, yes.)
O  SPINNER.  Spinner, I am begging you, we need a hard reset on aaaaall this nonsense.  It’s up to you.  I believe in you.  Please come through and let your voice actor enjoy the schadenfreude of a scene the anime absolutely cannot deprive him of. But also, please be okay.  Please retrieve Kurogiri and then immediately report to the person who can fix this.
Let me tell you guys, I’m both pumped and terrified at the thought of Spinaraki Week running right when All This is due to be going down.
O  I spent some time being concerned about how springing Kurogiri would even help, given that—even setting aside Kurogiri's willingness and capability to help—Warp Gate is coordinate-based and Kurogiri has no way of knowing where Shigaraki and the rest are. Aaaaaand then I remembered that Team Villain has a genius hacker on their side who we already know is both worming his way into the U.A. command center's system and in contact with PLF folk, many of whom are accompanying Spinner! Truly, Skeptic's presence here has every right to make getting coordinates for Kurogiri a breeze!
Also, while I much doubt this is the intended read—and if it is, it's much weakened by the possession plot and the shabby way the narrative has treated the MLA—it would be incredibly thematically satisfying for Shigaraki Tomura, whose rise to villainy was marked by him taking on an aspect of all the other villains he encountered, to be rescued by the combined efforts of people from every stage of that development: a childhood caretaker, a member of the League of Villains, and one of the new allies whose lives he spared at Deika.
...Okay, I really need this now.

@heterochromatica || reply to (xx)
(HEAVY MANGA SPOILERS IN THIS so proceed with caution if anyone wants to read this and is Anime Only ... but hey, Bri’s rambling again xDD)
Okay but funnily enough I've seen a lot of people that say that Yoichi is also more similar to Shoto character design and Story wise which I find also very interesting because it seems to be a repeating thing that Deku is surrounded and has key points of his live orchestrated with these two types of people? I hope you know what I mean... XD
I haven’t heard / seen people make that comparison but it does make sense. Especially given that Izuku reached out to help Shouto, and encouraged him to use his fire, during a point in his life where he wanted nothing to do with the part of his Quirk that was related to Enji.
And that being a parallel to the Second reaching out to allow Yoichi.
also like @redriotkiri said:
@/heterochromatica tbh Yoichi being more similar to Shouto also makes sense if you look at him and AFO as a parallel to Shouto and Dabi 👀
There is a parallel that can be seen between Yoichi & AFO and Shouto & Dabi.
....But like Hawks said following Uraraka’s speech when 1-A brought Izuku back from his Vigilante solo mission....
“One For All... is a network of power that links people’s hearts.”
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I don’t think OFA was ever meant to be a sole person’s Quirk in a sense.. like yes, one person wields it, but
As it came about when the Second reached out to Yoichi ... but than pretty much every user after the Third? self isolated themself from either their loved ones or society as a whole.
And it’s only now, with Izuku, coming back around to the wielder willing to work with and trust others in a similar way that Yoichi and the Second had with each other.
Like there’s a heavy theme with Izuku NEEDING to “control his heart”.
But what if that phrase is more meant he “needs to control his emotions” as a whole. Because we know how much Izuku’s emotions drive him, and his actions. And we’ve seen what happens when he completely locks his emotions away (i.e. Dark Deku).
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I feel like that’s the reason why Mirio, BY HIMSELF, was able to calm Izuku down long enough for him to get a grasp on his Quirk in Chapter 367.
As opposed to Ochako, when Blackwhip initially unlocked, who WASN’T able to do it herself and required Shinso’s help. Despite her being the “Love Interest” and that is a common trope for the love interest of the main character.

Years of Quirks and Beyond
THIS IS A CRAZY POST about the origins of quirks in My Hero Academia. I am not entirely familiar with the show or manga, and am not sorry. The science is wrong; Think of this as a soap opera, serials, novelas, etc. you know what I mean. This world follows a very similar timeline as ours until ScIeNcE takes a turn.
There is post I saw that theorizes quirks appearing before the space race. Their theory, quirks appeared before or during the space race between USSR and USA. Around 1955 - 1965. The glowing baby was the first recorded case. But who knows, there might have been quirks before, but written off as disabilities or deformities. I’ll make a post on that.
NOTES:  If I say there are ‘records’, there isn’t. Im just pulling out of my ass. There’s not much info on the early history of quirks, but just roll with this idea. This entire post can be scrapped when there is more background added. But for now, suck it up :)
Dawn of Quirk Society: 1955 - 1999
“Quirks” were classified as inhuman. Users were ostracized from society.
By, 1979, 11% of the population had a “quirk”
For forty years, there was extreme backlash from the public. This result in some countries using inhumane measures to ‘dispose’ of those with abilities
Born with a quirk resulted in many hardships for the wielder. Segregation and subhumanization at the top of the list. Their power made them a target to organizations and used as a tool for their own agenda. This includes governments, cults, even family members. Often, they were hunted and killed for sport
Maybe OfA and AfO were from the 2nd generation?
*NOTE* Generation = 20 years
1st Wave of Vigilantes 1970 - 1999, The second and third generations of quirk users hid their abilities, blending into society. Physical mutations were not so lucky, but managed. Thieving or saving, using their quirks and donning a mask, the quirk community felt glimmers of hope.
In the height of the chaos, two brothers roamed the dingy city. One for All and All for One. They rise among the turbulent society. Before entering the period of peace, One for All was passed on.
Before 1999, let's pretend a major event happened that changed the public’s view on quirks.
Insert Whatever You Have In Mind Here:
1999 - 2020 Peace and early Hero Agencies
Quirks were trained at a young age. Children apprenticed under professional quirk users, some taking multiple students. These professionals mostly worked for a government organization; or at times a rogue organization.
Rise of Hero Culture: 2015 - 2035: by 2019, %44 of the population possessed a quirk. Because of social media and other media outlets, the world embraced quirks. This led to KPOP levels of followings to these heroic quirks users. The rising hero culture was suddenly very aware of what the internet could do when “cancel culture” became a thing. These heroes were under constant watch by society and began to put up fronts for their personas.
2020, Its a shit year for us, lets pretend its a shit year for them. +A flu like virus spread quickly. The virus took a chunk from the quirkless population and those with quirks had some immunity.
This puts an end to the period of peace as tension rose world wide.
After the shitshow that was 2020, major nations entered a Cold War. Entering the hero world in this period was extremely demoralizing*, as their fronts were used as propaganda and further imprinting the classic hero image into society.
*Demoralizing the hero but to the public, brought them the sense of hope and safety.
2019 - 2034: 2nd wave of the vigilantes
In this period, there were extremely unique and rare quirks that have not appeared since.
These vigilantes opposed the propaganda hero. They faced heavy accusations as spies or the rise of an anti-hero rebellion. When in reality, these vigilantes wanted freedom from their own governments.
2041: Start of the Quirk Wars
Akira level devastations happened around the world. One in a major city, 5 recorded in non major but densely populated cities. For whatever reason, natural disaster was marked off the list as there were nearly one hundred recorded. It was believed to be caused by a quirk(s). Millions of lives were lost.
This caused fear to sky rocket and what people at the time felt “snap”. This caused WW3, cause why not? Instead of nuclear missiles, governments released their arsenal of cultivated heavy hitter quirks. Thousands of lives were lost in the first year. It was not until 2090 that it was discovered it was a natural phenomenon caused by ancient tectonic plates resurfacing, rapidly creating new land mass.
2043 - 2048: The battle is in full swing. At this point, technology accommodating quirks began evolving for the use in battle.
WW1, was a modern war, where technology rapidly advanced for warfare in a few years. The technology was monstrous for their time. So consider this: Quirks in society are still at arm’s length. The public love them, but also fear them. This will be the first world war where quirks are weaponized in the thousands. And like weapons in our modern society, quirks were tools.
Later in the war, the public adjusted to quirk society and hero culture thrived.
However you imagine WW3 with quirks. Insert that HERE :)
2055 - 2070: Hero Schools were established and a baby boom. It was estimated that the quirk population jumped from 51% to 63% in the past decade.
This boom brought forth a rise in transformation quirks
2069 Gran Torino is born. +Entered a Hero School in 2084. By 2095, he was an established pro hero.
2100: Turn of the century, 71% of population posses a quirk. Veterans from the Quirk Wars were dead or in nursing homes. The effects from the war took a toll on their bodies.
2140s: Midoriya Izuku is born. Idk what year yet.
=====
I ran out of steam, but i think you get the idea.

Out of all the bnha theories I can think of, the one I dislike the most is the one where the second and third wielders of One for All are Kirishima and Bakugou.
And it's not that I mind the idea of kirishima being a holder (bakugou being one is a whole other story) but it's just I really don't want some convoluted explination on how these two went to the past, got the quirk from the first user, lived long enough in the past to cultivate it, find a successor, and pass it on. And since all the users have been confirmed to be murdered by All for One, then Bakugou and Kirishima would be dead.
Now I won't deny that one if the users looks a lot like Bakugou so I can see where the theory came from, but I'm hoping in the end that it's not actually them. I'd be perfectly fine with them being ancestors of the two of them though.

I’m lowkey confused with this chapter 🤔
#idk if I forgot about it or something but what exactly is the 2nd users quirk..#I’m pretty sure we don’t know Bc him and the third user don’t fully fuck with deku yet so they haven’t told him their quirks#so I’m just gonna assume he might have some type of telepathy or transmission#Bc why else would they show tht panel of him when bakugou showed up#it’s clearly being implied tht he did something along with possibly the 1st & 3rd to contact bakugou in a way or make dekus location known#to his classmates if they were all actively looking for him#I think they might’ve since todoroki was just blowing up endeavors phone last chapter#and I can’t even say it’s more likely tht endeavor let todoroki know where deku was Bc he’d know tht him and his classmates would go#running to get deku back#so I’m thinking it’s actually the 2nd user and honestly if this is true lmao horikoshi is like yep y’all were right about bakugou and the#2nd user#they basically look like twins#I’m curious about what’s gonna happen now#I wonder if dekus gonna be stubborn or accept the help since he’s literally like dead on his feet#also when the 2nd user was talking about this is his duty as the wielder of OFA like…? he’s still a fucking child and he didn’t ask for all#this responsibility? and they literally know what AFO said to him about trying to burn him out before the final battle so whytf was he#basically like ‘who cares he still has to do all this on his own Bc he has OFA’#I’m glad he changed his mind in the end but tht part was so?????#anyway I’m excited for the next chapter#bnha 318#MHA 318

What’s the deal with OFA and All Might’s vestige?
Here’s a super quick illustration:
Tumblr media
Here’s what we know:
OFA is a merger/mutation of a stockpiling quirk and a self-transfer quirk. OFA itself is hollow; it’s a “sleeper car” to bring consciousness from the past forward in time. Once it hit the singularity, it started bringing Izuku “back in time” so he could speak with past wielders.
Tumblr media
OFA sucked in the physical quirk factors of the holders that had their own quirks (Second through Nana). Yoichi isn’t in OFA because Yoichi’s DNA is OFA — that is, Yoichi’s DNA is the hollow sleeper car. Remember, quirk factors are NOT magical; they’re DNA, blood, cells, etc., and they have limits.
Tumblr media
Here’s the magic: OFA contains more than just quirk factors. It contains a piece of All Might’s consciousness (or spirit, or soul, or kokoro). This “vestige” All Might, aka Aura Might, is not tied to any physical limiter. It’s not a normal “vestige”of the past comprised of predecessor DNA, blood, or cells. After all, being a hero is more than just blood ties. This is why Aura Might is the heroes’ secret weapon (And always has been.) Aura Might can behave like a quirk factor, but can move in the vestige world without any physical limitations.
Tumblr media
In fact, Aura Might can already communicate outside Izuku’s body when Toshinori is near or touching Izuku. It’s not much, but it’s without any OFA or other quirk enhancement. It seems that the link COULD get stronger given the AFO/TomurAFO “mind meld”. Or….what if Aura Might could communicate with more than just Izuku and Toshinori? OFA has always been a link between those “crying out to be saved and those with brave and true hearts.”
Tumblr media
Also…AFO has one very significant physical limitation to overcome: He can’t dispose of quirks. He has to touch someone to transfer it. Even if AFO has found a way around it via cannibalizing the cannibal, he can’t “get rid” of a vestige that’s not a quirk. If he takes in a vestige that’s not compatible with him, or that rages against him, he has to take action. He won’t let a “transplanted” quirk change his personality.
Tumblr media
We don’t know:
Is there more than one Aura Might? Could there be one inside every person All Might inspired? Is that why TomurAFO saw the “specter of All Might” in Star & Stripe, a vision of Prime All Might, and screamed about All Might after he lost New Order?
Tumblr media
To add to the idea that there are multiple Aura Mights floating around….Bakugo’s quirk vestige sees Aura Might as he’s dying, but the background is completely white. We don’t know if this is Bakugo’s quirk vestige or his true consciousness, fully separated from his physical body. We don’t know where Bakugo and All Might are meeting either. Did OFA pull in Bakugo somehow? Did a latent Aura Might light up in Bakugo upon his truly heroic action? Or are these two spirits in a neutral, third place? Moreover, when AFO was fighting a wounded Endeavor, he saw Prime All Might…and when TomurAFO was fighting Bakugo, he saw a distorted Second. In both cases, the AFOs were stunned that a non-OFA wielder could possess such power on par with All Might. Multiple Aura Mights fits well with Star’s prediction that someone will inherit the “will of heroism” (not inherit “OFA”), just with the twist that it’s MULTIPLE someones doing the inheriting.
Tumblr media
What else could OFA contain?
Nana told Toshinori there’s “all kinds of stuff” in OFA, especially feelings. What the prior users wanted; their hopes, dreams, and memories. Maybe their spirits are in there too, not just quirk factors. Maybe there could be more “aura” warriors! Nana and Yoichi (the blood relatives of Shigaraki and AFO) were the only vestiges who fought in the war, hmmm….
Tumblr media
There’s also OFA’s connection to AFO.
It’s possible AFO is hiding in OFA. AFO might be adding his own DNA to any quirk he grants, effectively giving him a window into any quirk recipient (potentially for generations if the DNA is passed forward). Just because he only gained the ability to make Nagant explode remotely in his more recent years doesn’t mean AFO wasn’t planting seeds in quirk recipients much, much earlier. After all, his goal is to live forever, leaving a legacy of himself that passes from one body to the next.

I, normal brain: Unknowing OFA Wielder Toshinori. You, galaxy brain: ALL OFA wielders had no idea!
I'm thinking about this again, actually, and I'm thinking... In the original post I said the former OfA holders wouldn't know about OfA until they were dead, but it occurs to me that there still wouldn't be any reason for them to find out. After all, none of them have been dead before. Maybe this is just what death is like. It isn't like they're haunting strangers. They all have a perfectly normal reason to be there. First is haunting Second and Third, Second is also haunting Third, Third is haunting Shinomori, Shinomori is haunting Banjo, Banjo is haunting, En, En is haunting Shimura, Shimura is haunting Yagi. And they were all killed by the same guy! It is a bit weird that they're now haunting this green kid, before Yagi's kicked it, but death is just like that sometimes.
Maybe it's because he's related to Banjo. Blackwhip is pretty distinctive.

Depending on how little DNA is required for a transfer, sneezing could cause OFA to change hands. All it takes is thinking “It would be great if this person had my strength.”
Maybe Second figured out that Yoichi somehow gave him the stockpile quirk, but he died before telling Third about it, and from there accidental transfers occurred without the OFA wielder having any clue.
All Might genuinely thinks he was just a late bloomer, so when Midoriya asks if he can be a hero without a quirk, Toshinori’s response is just “Not with those scrawny little arms, you won’t. Better get started!” Because it’s a good way to spend his spare time when he’s off the clock.
God imagine how mad AFO is every time All Might brings up his late Quirk status in interviews

some follow-up thoughts on BnHA 306
mostly Deku angst, but also a little Baku angst (and some TodoBaku angst) mixed in for good measure. because there’s plenty of angst to go around.
1. “if I’d only been stronger...”
I’ll talk more about Deku later in this post as well, because there’s definitely plenty to talk about; this is the most character development he’s gotten in almost 200 chapters. but for starters, I want to discuss the possible parallels between Deku’s current character arc, and what is arguably the most iconic moment of angst/character development in the series.
Tumblr media
remember how this kid, who up until this point had rarely seemed to give two fucks about the world around him, suddenly revealed that he blamed himself for being the downfall of All Might? remember how it came almost out of nowhere? how he’d been hiding it, and trying to suppress it? “but even if I try to forget... sometimes it all just comes rushing back.”
yeah. so anyway, I got to thinking -- if being the cause of one hero’s downfall could affect someone this badly, what about being responsible for the downfall of all heroes?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
what if a boy who wanted nothing more than to keep people safe suddenly found himself at the epicenter of a disaster that killed hundreds, possibly even thousands of people?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
now obviously, this is not the sole thing that’s troubling Deku right now; this kid has a whole array of traumas as of the War arc. like, you know it’s bad when Society As We Know It Coming To An End Partially Because Of You is the least of your problems. but still, I think this is worth bringing up, because the hero kids blaming themselves for things that aren’t their fault is hardly anything new. and yet, what with everything else that’s been going on -- all of the Todoroki drama, and Vestige revelations, and hospital antics, and political strife -- I feel like it’s easy to forget or overlook this little detail.
the fact is that AFO put this entire plan into motion solely in the hopes of finally obtaining OFA. every single thing that happened at Jakku -- Tomura powering up; Machia waking up and going on his rampage (after being ordered to do so by Tomura); and even Dabi/Touya choosing this moment to finally strike (because he knew this was when the reveal would do the maximum damage -- when people’s faith in heroes was already wavering) -- every last bit of it can ultimately be traced back to AFO’s desire to steal OFA. which, obviously, makes it AFO’s fault, not Deku’s. but then, Kamino wasn’t actually Katsuki’s fault either. it wasn’t his fault the villains went after him (but he blamed himself anyway), and it wasn’t his fault that people got hurt in the ensuing battle to save him (but he blamed himself anyway).
just. I think we’re underestimating just how strong of an impact all of this likely had on Deku. we haven’t really had the chance to see him process it yet. he’s been too busy, and there have been too many other things going on. but I’m telling you guys, that empty look in his eyes in the final page of the chapter? I can all but guarantee you that at least some of that emotional weight is coming from this.
sure would be nice if he had a friend who knew exactly what that was like, and could help him process the guilt and all of the other associated emotions, just like Deku once helped him. unfortunately I’m not so sure things will be that easy this time around. anyways though let’s move on to a couple of other thoughts and speculations.
2. “...and I bullied him.”
one of my least-favorite BnHA fanfic tropes is the one where the rest of class 1-A somehow finds out about Katsuki and Deku’s history -- i.e. that Katsuki bullied Deku throughout most of their childhood. mind you, it’s not the concept itself that I dislike; it’s mostly how it’s used. a lot of times it’s just an excuse to have all of the other kids turn on Katsuki and ostracize him; either because the author thinks that’s what he deserves, or else so that Deku can eventually come to his rescue and defend him and shame the rest of the class for not seeing how much he’s changed. either way, it’s usually pretty awkward to read, and more often than not the characters are pretty OOC (especially Ochako and Todoroki).
however! there’s a big difference between fanfic and canon, and just because I’m not a fan of this trope in the former doesn’t mean it couldn’t be executed well in the latter. and lately I’ve been thinking about this a lot. mainly for three reasons:
the recent (can we still call it recent?? well whatever) scene where Katsuki confessed to All Might that he used to bully Deku is now one of my favorite scenes in the entire series, and proof that this can be executed well.
both Todoroki and Deku have finally had their respective big secrets revealed to the rest of the class. so like, idk. feels like it just might be secret-revealing season now, you know?
and lastly, as a result of Deku’s secret about OFA finally being revealed, the rest of 1-A now either knows, or can extrapolate, that he used to be quirkless.
and from there, I feel like it’s not all that hard to put two and two together with how terrible Kacchan and Deku’s relationship was when they first started at UA. that’s not a terribly difficult puzzle to solve. so I feel like it might come out anyway, and if so, I’d prefer Bakugou telling them himself, and taking responsibility as part of his atonement process. because we know that he regrets it. we know their relationship has changed. we know that he has changed. and so I think I might like to see this.
alternately, if confessing to the entire class is too much, at the very least I could see him confessing to Shouto, because I’ve always felt like this was one of the big things that made Katsuki so resistant to letting Todoroki call him a friend. because I feel like there’s a part of Katsuki that saw the parallels between Endeavor’s abuse of Shouto and his own bullying of Deku, and thought, he wouldn’t be so quick to call me his friend if he actually knew the truth. and so there’s actually been this roadblock wedged between them this whole time that Shouto doesn’t even know about. because Shouto hates Endeavor. and so it’s not such a leap to assume he’d hate Katsuki too if he knew just how terrible he’d been to Deku when they were younger.
not that I think he actually would! actually I don’t think either of those things is actually true (because Shouto clearly doesn’t hate his father either, in spite of everything that’s happened). but the point isn’t what I think -- the point is what Katsuki thinks. and I really do think there’s a good chance he’s worried about Shouto hating him, and it’s one of the things that’s made him so reluctant to accept his friendship. anyway, so I’m really just rambling now, but you get my point. I don’t know if this is actually going to happen, but it’s a scene I would like to see if Horikoshi decides to indulge me.
3. “...so when you wake up, please give him my best.”
Tumblr media
and now, as promised, back to Deku.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
ngl guys, when I first saw this image, my immediate thought was that Gran must have died. because I mean, hello, leaving U.A.?? donning himself in his teacher’s old cape?? empty, exhausted look in his eyes?? what else were we supposed to think lol.
but maybe that was an overreaction. because when I think about it more, Gran’s death isn’t strictly necessary in order to push Deku over the edge. first of all, there’s already the whole “hero society is in ruins now because of you” thing I mentioned earlier. but also, there are just so many other things. like, let’s just list them here because omg. what a rough couple of days this kid had.
he was forced to battle TomurAFO and was terribly injured in the process (most of which was his own fault, but he wouldn’t have gone that far with OFA unless he felt like he had no choice)
and it wasn’t just him that was injured, either. in fact, even though he tried to act as bait to keep everyone else safe, he wasn’t able to stop three of the people closest to him from nearly being killed right before his eyes
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
and of course that last one was especially traumatic, because it was Kacchan, and because he had to watch Kacchan nearly die just to protect him. out of all the things that Deku witnessed in this arc, this might be the one that had the biggest impact on him
he was also basically helpless to do anything to protect Shouto and Endeavor when Dabi showed up. so again, we have this running theme of people he cares about being hurt and him not being able to save them
and he also got sucked into the OFA Interstellar Dream Vortex for a brief spell during the battle, during which he learned that AFO had possessed Tomura. more importantly, he learned that Tomura was Nana’s grandson, a fact which was only briefly touched on during that scene, but which I think wound up being the trigger to the whole avalanche that ended with Deku leaving UA. but more on that in a moment
anyway so just to wrap this all up, the battle eventually ended, Tomura got away despite all of their efforts, and then Deku wound up comatose in the hospital for two days. which brings us to the most recent chapters, during which
Deku learns that he will be the last wielder of OFA, whether he likes or not
Deku learns the identity of the last two mystery OFA users
and then at some point, he wakes up and presumably talks to Gran, and winds up with his cape
something happened during these last two scenes which helped to push Deku over the edge. I won’t delve into the matter of the Second or Third users for now, although most of you already know my suspicions regarding that, and I do think that would fit into the general pattern here (that is, the pattern of Deku feeling more and more strongly that he is putting the people around him in danger, and his fear of losing them becoming so overwhelming that it eventually pushes him to leave).
but that’s not what I want to talk about for now. what I want to talk about is Gran. specifically, what it is that Deku discussed with Gran. and this is where we come back to that reveal I mentioned earlier -- that Tomura is Nana’s grandchild.
Tumblr media
basically, what I think happened is that Deku mentioned seeing Nana in the OFA Zany Psychedelic Spirit Void, which led to the topic of Tomura, and the fun fact Deku recently learned about him being related to Nana. this, in turn leads to Gran divulging his various regrets about everything that happened with him and Nana and Kotarou. his intent is to apologize to Deku for placing the burden of their failures on him. unfortunately, the part that Deku actually gets fixated on instead is this:
All for One hunted down and killed Nana’s son (and probably her husband as well), and stole her grandchild and psychologically tortured him into becoming a mass murderer, for no other reason than that Nana had once held OFA
in other words, AFO can and will hurt and kill anyone Deku is close to, anyone who has any kind of connection to him at all, without mercy, and regardless of whether it actually gives him any kind of tactical advantage or not. he’ll do it simply to hurt him. no other reason necessary.
I don’t know about you, but for me that would be a terrifying realization. and for Deku, I think it just might have been the tipping point.
so, let’s recap.
Deku learns that AFO is after him
AFO/Tomura very nearly kills several of Deku’s most important people, including Kacchan
and then he learns that this is just the tip of the iceberg, and realizes that all of their lives are still in danger and will continue to be as long as Deku is AFO’s target
and then add to all of this the misplaced guilt about society already being shambles, and the heroes already having more than enough to worry about. they’re barely holding things together as it is. and we already know how Deku feels about being a burden to them:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
and so instead, he leaves. of course he does. in hindsight, I think this was inevitable.
the question is, did anyone else also put the pieces together in time to realize what Deku was planning before he actually left? specifically, did Katsuki, who understands Deku’s self-sacrificial nature better than anyone else, see the signs and put two and two together? like he did back at Jakku?
Tumblr media
and if he did, would Deku have been willing to accept his help again?
Tumblr media
somehow, I can’t help but think it might not be that easy this time.
anyway, so that was a lot of rambling, lol. sorry about that. I JUST HAVE A LOT OF FEELINGS about all of this angsty shit. tired nomad Deku needs hugs and comfort and someone to reassure him that he doesn’t have to face this alone, and that everything is going to be all right. HE IS JUST A LITTLE BOY. this is too much, and I cannot handle any of these feels, and oh my god, somebody please help him.
