I think my speciality is going to be adding small parts from Chinese poems/Chinese phrases I like before beginning the fic.. maybe I should start adding some English translations or at least some Chinese explanations for them lol

fun fact! for my recent lilia fic the phrase “看风流慷慨，谈笑过残年” is from a poem about a very powerful Chinese general that instead of choosing to fight in the war, decided to retreat to the mountains to live peacefully and gracefully for the rest of his life

So I keep wondering why exactly Mike thinks he and El can't be just friends after they breakup and that she'd leave him behind then I realized that's what happened in season three.

We know El broke up with him because he lied. We also know that El doesn't want to talk to him and that she's kinda pushing him away. She's still upset with him and she's not ready to speak to him.

Throughout the season though we see them get close again not in a way explicitly romantic or not, but in a way that could be platonic as well. They don't get back together, but they're comfortable enough with each other that Mike goes to help her pack.

Here's were things get sticky. El kisses him indicating that she wants to get back together. This would point to their closeness being romantic and not platonic so we have Mike thinking he can't be close to El unless it's romantic.

I... I only just now realized the rat folk (from FFIX) are shown to have four digits. Even actual rats only have four digits (they technically have four fingers and a little nub for a thumb, but still.) 🐀 Silly little me, I decided to give Branson the lute to play, of all things!

In the same breath, I suppose you could say it supports his backstory a bit, given how he struggled his way into music more than the other two. Between coming from a family that didn't support his musicality and likely learning how to play differently to compensate for having four digits vs. five (plus claws and monster hands) the struggle could seem even more understandable...

And like, I know. There are a bunch of other wild and crazy entities that probably learned how to do the music thing with random sets of digits, so what? It's a fantasy world! Anyone can play the lute if they put their heart into it, right? No big deal.

However, I am personally still recovering from this realization! I'll get over it eventually... 🤔

i thought my laptop was on its last leg because it was running at six billion degrees and using 100% disk space* at all times and then i turned off shadows and some other windows effects and it was immediately cured. i just did the same to my roommate's computer and its performance issues were also immediately cured. okay. i guess.

so i guess if you have creaky freezy windows 10/11 try searching "advanced system settings", go to performance settings, and uncheck "show shadows under windows" and anything else you don't want. hope that helps someone else.

*yes sorry i mean usage i posted this before bed :( i do not mean the hard drive is full aaaaghhhh

there's a cherry blossom tree in DC that keeps blooming every year even though it shouldn't and the park service keeps thinking it's dead and then it keeps blooming! well they're removing a lot of trees to rehabilitate the area and they've said it's finally time for stumpy to go and they're going to mulch it and use the mulch to enrich all the other trees so it can help everything else keep going. and they're also going to plant spliced little pieces of it all over so that stumpy can live forever and this is genuinely sending me into a spiral

the funniest meltdown ive ever had was in college when i got so overstimulated that i could Not speak, including over text. one of my friends was trying to talk me through it but i was solely using emojis because they were easier than trying to come up with words so he started using primarily emojis as well just to make things feel balanced. this was not the Most effective strategy... until. he tried to ask me "you okay?" but the way he chose to do that was by sending "👉🏼👌🏼❓" and i was so shocked by suddenly being asked if i was dtf that i was like WHAT????
