When I saw this ask I was watching a movie with my mom and thought I'd answer it later, but I was tired and just went to sleep. In the morning I realized I forgot to do my lab report and by the time I was done with the lab for that day and returning home I had forgotten about it... and that's how I find myself here, 5? days later answering it. Idk how I remembered it honestly.

Apart from some short stories I usually write in my notebooks when I get bored in class, I have two wips I'm working on. One is an orginal fantasy story that I've been slowly writing for a while now and the other is a fanfic that I'm writing for the audience of exactly 4 enthusiastic readers. Honestly it's easy to pick between them, it's my original wip. And now I'm going to rant about both because I'm in a good mood.

Some sort of a summary for my fantasy wip would be: Sixth year of reign of high empress over the newly conquered empires begins with her murder and a heart of the former crown prince of the enemy empire missing from the shrine. What follows is the return of her exiled younger brother to take up his position as the new high emperor, and a violent rebellion fueld by old uncommon illegal forms of powers and lead by a group of batshit insane individuals whose leader is the dead crown prince with a personal vendetta against the new emperor on top of wanting revenge for his empire getting decimated. My personal fave characters to write are the faithless priestess whose entire family is a casulty of war so she got sent to the altars to serve gods as all orphans do except she started dabbling in uncommon powers for fun because they keep a lot of top government secrets at the altars (politics and religion are closely intertwined) and the more she was listening about gods the less she believed in them. That eventually lead to the main goddess becoming interested in her and assigning her as a babysitter to the main character/villain who decided he will simply not follow the normal life cycle and you know.. just not die even though he had his heart ripped out until he gets his revenge (it's a bit more complicated than that). She becomes his most trusted advisor and general and spy and weapon all in one. I also LOVE writing his sister so much, she went from being a little well sheltered princess in the times of war to being gifted to this pirate who helped empress in her war efforts to slaughtering that pirate and becoming the most feared Imperial Storm Mistress. Love the extremely fucked up sibling dynamics she and her brother have going on. Also the emperor! He is so incompetent in running a country but he is trying his best. He is a cringefail, he should have died when he was seven at most (that's the max life expectancy for kids born with his condition - if I'm giving people magical powers but relating that to the physiology then I must give them magic related illnesses), he is super smart, he's been in love with the enemy crown prince since he was like 15-16, he killed the enemy crown prince personally, he is the reason his sister won that war, he does nothing but laze around all day but he will commit mass murder if needs must, believes he's a better person than his sister but is actually much much worse. I'm not even going to get into the main villain/character because that idiot is severely fucked up. Honestly the actual chapters of the story come together with pages long documents on politics and history accounts and explanations of school and law systems, religion, the customs and etc. You know you're in too deep when you send your friends a report on agriculture in a fantasy setting you've made up in your mind. Oh and the magic system is a government scam. There's necromancy and human sacrifices, and weird immortality principles in a society that seems to be perfectly functioning but is actually severely messed up up. The main character is obviously doomed by the narrative, but he's fine with that.

The fanfic I'm writing for my friends is a Bungou Stray Dogs fic I've started in 2020 after a series of funny circumstances and I finished it but one friend who only started watching it this winter because the rest of us wouldn't shut up about season 4 and after she finished watching it, she was sent the famous word documents and she was like wait that's it? Because it ends around the point in plot where season 4 starts (she hasn't read the manga), and she kept spreading the gospel of how messy things could get if I continued it and what am I but indulgent. So I recently continued working on it, except I'm an extra slow writer. It's a story that starts as a canon divergence, then follows canon for a bit but makes things more unhinged, and then diverges from the canon again. Friends have also been bothering me to put it up on ao3 because who wouldn't want to read about "a character doomed and haunted by the narrative is actually the one narrating the narrative but it's unclear whether the objective is to fix or destroy the narrative". I don't think I will upload it tho, so that's it about that.

hi lana 🥰 i usually take my tea hot and with a spoonful of honey (if my grandmother isn't in the room judging me for my sugar intake...if she is i'm skipping the honey :/ jesus weeps) i like my coffee hot as well, i love iced coffee but my family are bitches about sugar so i rarely get to indulge myself with a chai iced coffee or frap but usually in the mornings i just pair my coffee with oat milk and some vanilla or caramel macchiato creamer.

my favorite film is probably the spectacular now, it just reminds me a lot of myself from hs and that film has always put my life in perspective for me kinda? it's one of those whatevs movies that people rate like 3 stars, it's not something out of this world but to me it's just one of those perfect movies that means a lot to me, you could ask me this same question in a week and i'll prob give a different answer bc films are so good but rn i really do love that one and it makes me so fucking happy that taylor swift let miles teller be in one of her music videos aaaaa

my preferred time to go to bed is at 10:30, i'm like a little elderly person tbh i love my bed <3 but sadly i don't live in a world in which i can ever get myself to bed that early lol. my preferred time to wake up is 8 AM i love 8 AM sm i love being awake early even though i'm not one of those morning persons, i do love mornings however just as long as i am not disturbed by the existence of other people then i can be a morning person 🥰 i love the little cheep cheep of the birds gotta be one of my favorite things 🥹

oh god this is my fic "I'm Sick of Your Shit, Zuzu" that i wrote for zk week 2022 lol. it was very much rushed and not up to my standards, which are perhaps a little high. i love my idea but i was struggling and just ended up writing to finish the week off bc i was absolutely determined.

🦅 Do you outline fics or fly by the seat of your pants?

i do both actually. a lot of the time when i am like inspired i just go for it, but sometimes i feel more lost with direction of things, so i outline. my outlines are sometimes just the place and idea of each chapter and sometimes very specific details. for example, i have a top secret multi-chapter planned for after How (Not) to Care for Katara is finished that has an outline with specific lines i want and the very minute details of my plans, but the outline for How (Not) to Care for Katara has changed several times and the current one is irrelevant bc i low-key changed the entire trajectory of the plot randomly. it's more so on a chapter by chapter basis, with some not even having any lol.

i do! i cannot bear silence so there's always something playing whether it be an old livestream, podcast, or music. i'm a bit of a swifite so most of what i listen to rn is her newest album, midnights! anti-hero is my favorite bc it was 100% written for me. i'm kinda quirky and am fully nocturnal. i sleep all day and wake up for the whole night, but i work at a hospital on nights so i have a really good excuse now, but the song has the lines "midnights become my afternoons / when my depression works the graveyard shift / all of the people i've ghosted stand there in the room" and those are very applicable to me! i do have depression and it can only work the graveyard shift if i am only up at those hours hehe and midnights are literally my afternoons. i also really like would've, could've, should've and it just HITS and is very painful. i still listen on loop tho lol. i also listened to sweet nothing a lot bc i have a fic planned for it hehe. i recommend midnights tho it's definitely in my top taylor swift albums hehe <3

when i was younger i really wanted to be a writer, but it's so much more fun as a hobby. i took classes on writing and it just isn't enjoyable when i can't let my creativity flow freely. i also need something a little crazier, so nursing is going to suit me just fine!

Because like. If I wanna do research. It seems that going to mcfucking grad school is the best way to go. Either that or working in a lab as a research assistant with super inconsistent hours, with like 12 hours a week when I AM needed, in a position that's apparently typically intended for students. And like. I need to support myself lol so. No thanks! Wish someone told me this earlier but eh, no one tells us shit these days except how to apply to retail

And since connecting the dots that like. They need someone to do receptionist duties at mental health centers and stuff. Like that's what I wanna do. That feels like an impact I can be happy with. I'm not selling someone their organic kale or some shit. I'm not busting my ass for some corporation that doesn't care about me or the customers they're serving. I'm helping someone get the help that they need. Someone struggling in ways that I really sympathize, and in some cases, empathize with, and I really care about helping them, regardless of if it's an issue I have personal experience with or not

I can't be a counsellor or a therapist or w/e. I just can't. I can't do that without compromising my own mental health and stability. I'd take on my clients' problems too much, I wouldn't know what to do when they're having a particularly emotional moment. All sorts of issues. I've made my peace with that now. But mental health professionals need a receptionist, too. So I can help connect the clients with their counsellors/therapists/whatever

Look, I need work that I feel fulfilled with in some regard. I look at my dad and see how resentful he's gotten with regards to work, he doesn't give a shit about it, it causes him so much stress, and that bleeds into his personal life, his relationships, his mental health. Every year he gets closer to retirement, the more he and my mom talk about how he can't wait to free himself from his work. I've seen this for as long as I can remember. And I've long since told myself that I'm not gonna put myself in that position if I can help it. If I can't avoid it, I'll go down fighting like hell to. I'm going to fight tooth and nail to get myself doing something I at least give a shit about, that I won't grow resentful toward

I thought that research was my way to getting that. Fuck, isn't it just such an incredible thought? To contribute to research, the expansion of human knowledge, especially in ways that can be used to help people, maybe even inform public policies? Inform people how to help the next generations live a happy life, what helps us an harms us, guide people to living in harmony and recognition of each other? Maybe help the next generations avoid the pain you've felt yourself?

But it turns out that's a hefty goal, one that takes years and years and YEARS of work, incredible effort, not for the faint of heart, with incredible complexity and high expectations. And honestly? This may just be the escapism of cottagecore fantasies talking here, but I just want to live a peaceful life. I just want to be able to support myself and those I love, while being able to indulge here and there. That feels like it shouldn't be such an impossible goal, but in our current hellscape, it sure sounds like idealism, doesn't it?

And with every day my parents get closer to retirement, I need to prepare to support myself. I need to save my money for the impossible dream of having enough for a down payment. I need consistent income. And I need it soon. So grad school? Not only would it mentally break me, but it would take way too long to get me to a place I need to be

And I haven't even mentioned the fact that it seems that working in research also necessitates teaching, which is something else I've long since decided I can't do! I can hardly do public speaking when I'm a student presenting a project, and I can hardly explain complex topics on the spot, and I'd need to be able to adapt presenting information in ways I wouldn't be able to. Not to mention the fact that I'm terrible at evaluating schoolwork— whenever I've had to review peer work, I struggle providing feedback because I don't want to hurt their feelings, but I need to be fair and objective and just... I can't do it lol

So like. I've been doing a bunch of thinking lately. And I need to pursue a different career path. But I'm practically done this degree, and I've been taking classes required for honors, so I think this is my one chance to live out that dream I've had of doing something worthwhile, research that can inform people. And I want to do a project on eating disorders, because they're so, so misunderstood, even among the psychology community. Whenever they teach them in classes talking about abnormal psych, they always focus on the surface level topics, never the ones that, quite frankly, people struggling with eating disorders need help with, need to talk through and work through and have someone understand. It's so much more than an insecurity about your appearance. It's so much more than a focus on weight. And I need people to understand that. So I intend to help them learn. So I might as well do an honors thesis on this topic, then move onto a life that I can be satisfied with
