Eddie gets invited to prom.
Eddie, the freak.
Gets invited by the captain of the basketball team, Jason.
And Eddie’s over the fucking moon, because he never thought he’d get a date to prom, let alone such a hot, popular one.
Sure, it’d taken a little convincing at first, because duh. Town pariah, cutest boy in school - it’s not an obvious match. But Jason seems sincere.
There’d been a time Eddie thought maybe he’d go to prom with Steve - back when they were in the same class last year - but of course Steve never asked, and Eddie didn’t have the stones to do it himself. Always had to go for the popular guy, the unattainable one, did Eddie.
Once Steve graduated, Eddie had been surprised to actually strike up a friendship with Steve on his trips to the local coffee-shop-vintage-vinyl-store hybrid where Steve now worked. He’d even asked Steve, only a couple days before Jason casually leant against Eddie’s locker and popped the question - his excitement and shock had made him blind to the group of jocks loitering with smirk-stained mouths just down the hall - if he’d consider accompanying him to prom just so he didn’t have to go alone. Just as friends though, obviously (except that Eddie would have combusted on the spot if it wasn’t just as friends).
Steve’s rejection of the invite had come swift, though not harshly, and not for any reason other than that he had tickets to see the Hoosiers play the Wolverines at the Assembly Hall that night. Eddie spluttered out reassurance that-
“I’ll be fine! Don’t worry about little old me! Hey, I’ll have Rob and Nance there, huh, even if they’re going together. I’ll crash their date.” But the enthusiasm fell out of his voice as he spoke.
Steve had been surprised, but supportive, when Eddie broke the news about Jason. he’d not said anything for a long moment, but then his face split into a smile that seemed too big for his face, and he offered Eddie a high five.
And so the afternoon of prom comes.
Jason’s going to pick Eddie up at 7, and for the whole day, Eddie’s been all jitters. He showers, shaves, fusses with his hair, his tux (borrowed from Wayne), his rings and chains, and at 6:45, Eddie sits down opposite Wayne at the dining table.
And he waits.
And waits.
7pm comes, and then 7:15. 7:30.
“He probably just got caught up,” Eddie justifies, if only to break the thick silence hanging over the kitchen.
“I’m sure, kid.” Wayne’s voice is sincere, but it does nothing to ease the swirling of Eddie’s stomach. 8 o’clock crawls nearer, and Eddie’s still sitting at his kitchen table, elbows itching where he’s had his arms folded on the table in front of him for so long. Wayne excuses himself, comes back a couple minutes later, and Eddie hasn’t moved.
Acceptance tastes bitter in Eddie’s mouth.
“He’s not coming, is he.” Eddie doesn’t need to phrase it as a question. Of course Jason’s not coming. Why would he? Eddie feels so fucking stupid. For a moment there, he really thought.
“No, son. I… I don’t think he is.”
“I’m gonna go change,” Eddie announces, failing to keep the wetness out of his voice. He stands, the chair legs scraping overloud against the kitchen floor, and stalks towards his bedroom. He’s tugging at his tie and blinking away stinging tears when four sharp knocks come from the front door. Eddie’s nearest, and his heartbeat rockets. he races over, yanks at the handle flinging it open to find-
Steve.
Steve Harrington is standing on his front porch, fidgeting with his tie. Because he’s wearing a tie. And a suit. His cheeks are flushed, his hair a little damp still, and he’s holding a single yellow dandelion between pinched fingers. He looks so fucking handsome Eddie could cry. Or kiss him. Or kiss him and then cry.
But Steve’s at the Hoosiers game. Or-
“Steve…? I don’t…”
“Wayne called me.” Steve dips his chin self-consciously, looking up through thick lashes.
“And you- But you’re- The game?” Eddie blinks furiously, blindsided by the sight of Steve Harrington in a tux offering him a flower for his goddamn buttonhole.
“There’ll be other games. I’m only gonna get one more chance to take you to prom.”
“One… more?”
“Yeah,” Steve sighs, “I missed it the first time. Almost missed it this time too.”
“But you didn’t.” Eddie takes a half step forward, allowing Steve to slip his fingers under the lapel of his jacket and push the stem of the dandelion through the little stitched opening. He inhales a little gasp at the heady scent of Steve’s cologne so close all of a sudden. Their eyes meet, and everything else softens around them, fading only to shades of violet and blue in the dark. Eddie can see the bob of Steve’s throat as he swallows, but he can’t tear his eyes away from the rich hazel of Steve’s own to focus on it.
Eddie knows he’s smiling like a fool.
“I’m glad you could make it, son.” Wayne’s voice pops the moment like a dishsoap bubble, soft in the way that fall leaves are. Steve looks up and over Eddie’s shoulder, nodding bashfully.
“I’m glad you called.”
“Me too, Wayne. Thank you. No, really. Though I’m not sure I entirely love the fact that my uncle can get me a date better than I can.” The three of them laugh, the sound rising smoky into the night.
“You two have fun - but not too much, y’know.” Wayne’s mouth is set firm but there’s a recognizable spark in his eyes that Eddie is so glad they share.
“I’ll have him home by midnight, sir.” Steve plays the ‘respectful, demure date’ role so well.
“Don’t I get a say in that?” Eddie exclaims, whipping his head to look between the two of them. “Alright, take me to the dance, Harrington.”
“It would be my pleasure.”
In the end, they don’t make it to prom. Instead Steve drives them out to the overlook at Lover’s Lake, just the two of them, and they talk until the twinkle of stars is replaced by the first peachy hints of day. And Eddie thinks maybe prom is overrated, after all.

hi, I’m not great at requesting things but if this makes sense could you write a high school au where Jason is a football player. I think it would be cute cause he’s definitely tall enough and strong enough but then add in him being kind and wow he would make the BEST high school football player boyfriend. Thank you
⛧° Jason Grace x Nerdy! Reader hcs °⛧
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
content: jason grace x reader, college au!
warnings: cursing, allusions to sexual stuff (not much tho), stupidtly fluffy and corny.
a/n: bby if i tell you i dreamt about this, would you believe me? like, i swear to all the gods, i dreamt with this and woke up thinking about writing it… well, here ya go. oh, and i also made her a brazilian, i hope you don’t mind? if you do, just ignore it, please 🫡
⛧° 。 ⋆ ⋆ ⋆ ⋆ ⋆ ⋆༺♱༻⋆ ⋆ ⋆ ⋆ ⋆ ⋆ 。°⛧
Of course, he’s a great football player.
Like, i know no shit about football, i’m a soccer girly, but he’s the best quarterback in the city. like, he’s really really good.
And obviously everyone believes he’s such an asshole and a womanizer.
But in reality he’s so so nice
Sure, he sleeps with some girls and all, but not as much as his teammates.
He’s also the only jock that sticks with a girlfriend. Not for long, but still more than the other guys ig
So when he was having trouble with maths, he needed a tutor, cause he had to have a back up plan of he didn’t went for the pros
Such a nice boy, fr.
And he went talk with the teacher to ask who could teach him.
And that’s when he found you.
You weren’t exactly a super nerd. You just liked to study.
But you had a lot of friends, since being the only exchange student did bring this sort of popularity around the university.
And when he first came to you, you were kinda bitchy.
You know, you had a bit of hatred towards football players. No idea why, it was just there.
Even with that, you were too kind-hearted to don’t tutor him.
And when you got to know each other… you kinda started liking him.
On your first study session, the library was too full, so you went to the outside
Which was really working out, till Jason found a little bird that probably fell from his nest
The guy was so worried that he almost took the bird home
He would’ve done it if you didn’t stop him
But he found the nest and put the little bird back there
And you just stood there, like “what the fuck? isn’t he supposed to be a douche?”
It happens that he’s not.
And you became pretty good friends with the frequent study sessions and all.
Not to mention he was pretty offended when you told him you didn’t like football.
And you were very offended when he asked if the spoke Spanish in Brazil.
He knew it didn’t, he just did it to piss you off.
He really wanted you to go to one of his games, but you never said you were really going.
So, one day, when his team was having a match against Briar University, he was more than surprised to see you at the stands, right in the front.
With his jersey. With his number and name on your back.
He honestly felt he was gonna cry right then and there.
He got so happy he made a touchdown. They won.
And you were there, cheering for him and pretending like you understand anything that was going on there.
When the game ended, he came rushing towards you.
“Congrats, Gra-“ Before you could even finish your sentence, he kissed you.
Oh, and it was heaven.
After this, you started dating and it was the best thing you ever experienced.
He was such a gentleman.
Doors? Don’t even touch that. Dates? He’s paying, duh. You’re tired? He’ll carry you, bridal style.
You get the point.
You started liking football because of him. And he started liking soccer because of you.
a/n: i don’t know what to feel about this lol. idk what you’ll think of the brazilian thing, but if you don’t like it, i’ll remake it, promise!

twenty three (finale)
warning; 🥰 1.3k words. masterlist. a/n; happy birthday to our youngest baby who is growing up way too fast before our eyes 😭💖 can’t believe my baby is already 18 😭😭😭
“can you hurry up, you’re gonna miss the start! don’t you want to see your boyfriend play? it’s the finals!”
“and tell me why you’re more excited to see him play than me?” your brows raise at your friend who had been a little too eager the entire day, “or perhaps you’re just excited to see player number 6?”
she throws you a dirty glance but doesn’t stop pulling your arm towards the back oval where the crowd was already going wild. from a distance, you could spot your school’s team doing a huddle and in the middle of it all stood the reason why you even came tonight.
niki nishimura.
as if he could sense your presence, the boy looks up just as you reach the bleachers, your gazes immediately on each other. the view of him jogging over, all done up in his captain jersey and gear had you unknowingly holding your breath, the scene identical to ones from cliched high school flicks. and you were the main lead!
“why are you late!”
“would you prefer it if i didn’t come at all?!”
the captain throws you a dirty gaze, similar to the one your best friend had given you earlier, making you giggle.
“you are so lucky i like you,” the boy rolls his eyes before taking a step closer towards you, “now hurry up and give me my good luck kiss.”
you don’t have to look around to know that most of the audience were now focused on you and niki. hell, you could feel it! but what can you do when the tall boy is also looking down at you, his eyes hopeful, waiting for a kiss from his girlfriend.
so you get on your tippy toes and kiss his cheek, a move that immediately has the boy in a giggling fit.
your heart really might explode at this point because just look how cute he is!
“so are we playing orrrrr?” a familiar deep voice is heard from behind you, one you recognised as belonging to the sarcastic transfer student.
the rest of the team bursts into laughter at haruto’s words, making their bad tempered captain blush and almost pop a neck vein at the same time. poor kid.
“alright lets go!” niki screams, pointing to the field. he waits for the players to all disperse before leaning back down to kiss you back, a smile back on his lips, just like the one that’s already on yours. “i’ll be back in a sec. don’t go anywhere!”
“i’ll be right here nishimura.”
ruffling your hair, the boy then runs off towards his team who are already in position. the crowd roars to life as the game kicks off into full gear.
although you’re trying to pay attention to the game, your mind would wander off every two seconds. perhaps it’s because your mind is always too occupied with niki in his uniform to care about anything else.
just like right now.
“goooo taki!” your best friend suddenly screams from your side, surprising you, “what... i’m just cheering!”
“rightttt. for taki only?”
talk about being sus.
the girl nudges your shoulders before focusing back on the game, her cheeks evidently a shade darker from the mention of player number 6’s name. also known as taki.
before you knew it, the game was down to the last ten seconds. it had been a pretty tough match from what you could see, niki looking much more stressed out than usual. but as expected already, your boyfriend’s team came out as the winners in the end, the cheers that followed instantly after was almost deafening.
you watch as niki and the team huddle up, cheering and celebrating their victory. it makes you want to cry, knowing how hard he had been training all year for this. it has surely paid off.
you were too busy jumping up and down with eunji to notice niki running towards you, until it was too late. cheers turn into squeals when he lifts you up by the waist, holding you high up above the ground in excitement.
“ni- niki!! you’re so sweaty!” you try to push against his chest but this is niki nishimura you’re talking about, the annoying-est person you know, so of course he doesn’t stop.
instead, the boy pushes forward, smooshing his cheeks against yours, allowing his buckets worth of sweat to drench you too.
“ni- nishimura!”
the captain finally puts you down to your feet but his arms are still protectively around your waist, keeping you close. he’s full of smiles, eyes almost in half moon shapes, the sight has you instantly mirroring as well.
“you’re so annoying!” you punch his chest, “you’re lucky i like you.”
to your surprise, niki pulls you forward, hugging you tightly but instead of complaining anymore, you just let him. you couldn’t care less about the sweat, hell you wanted to hug him forever.
“congratulations niki, i knew you’d win.”
“well duh,” he says with a smug grin but before you could even say anything back, you feel a soft kiss on the top of your head, “but... thanks for being here tonight. i was happy seeing you in the crowd, baby.”
it’s as if you were hit square in the face, knocking you unconscious cause that’s literally what you’re feeling right now. the boy has called you a bunch of names throughout the time you’ve known him but this specific one topped it all.
your eyes, your hands... even your heart doesn’t know how to respond to it. to the simple word, baby.
“ahh you like that word, do you?” he asks with his brows raised, voice so taunting and playful, “baby baby baby baby baby baby!”
“stoppp...” you dig your face into his chest, hoping to hide away how flushed your cheeks were from his teasing. it causes the boy to laugh out loudly, as if making you blush was the most hilarious thing.
“my baby.”
your poor heart swoons to how softly he says those very two words. usually, you would’ve found something like this cringe but not right now, not with how naturally he made it sound.
“ah ah testing testing,” a familiar voice interrupts you both over the speakers, only for you to realise it’s none other than taki with a microphone, “hi. can our captain please stop smooching his girlfriend and come join us for one sec? please. just one second and you can have him to yourself after!”
and now you wanted to not only hide but run away forever as well, run away from the entire crowd that’s currently staring at you. some with envy, some with laughter and some with pure jealousy. but lets be real, your boyfriend is the niki nishimura after all.
the niki nishimura you used to do anything to stay away from, the same one you literally labelled as your sworn enemy. yet here he was, the boy who you would now do anything to spend time with, the same one you were now lucky enough to call your boyfriend.
“i’m going to kill him. i’m going to kill all of them,” niki narrows his eyes at his waiting group of team mates on the field before looking back down at you, “i’ll be right back. wait for me yeah?”
“i’ll be here niki, always.”
the ends of his lips pull into yet another grin as he hears that one specific word, always. he kisses you again without hesitation, the two of you laughing as you hear his team mates pretending to gag not too far away. but you don’t mind it, not when everything just so perfect.
“always.”
end.
a/n; annnnd that's the end of my bad boy fic! omg it took like 4 decades but we're here 😭 definitely gonna miss my tsundere team captain so maybeee i'll start a new one for him sometime. thank you to everyone who supported my fic! i appreciate every comment, like, feedback, everything! so thank you for sticking with me til the very end 🤗💖💖💖

All Too Well - Tooru Oikawa x Reader | Haikyuu
Is this inspired by All Too Well by Taylor Swift? Yes. Yes it is. That's my current favorite song.
Tumblr media
In middle school, Tooru Oikawa realized his dream of being the best at volleyball. He refused to believe that anyone could be better than him. In high school, he wasted no time in joining the team and worked harder than anyone. Come his second year, he started feeling comfortable with his position.
That was the year he met you.
Something about Oikawa is that when he falls for someone, he falls hard. The first year of your relationship was filled with romantic dates, constant sleepovers, and lots of PDA. He'd make sure you would always have a front row seat to every one of his games, dedicating all of his serves to you. He treated you like royalty.
The start of his third year started off the same, except now Tooru was getting recognized by professionals since he was close to graduating. He had a promising future ahead of him and he had wanted to spend it with you. However, Karasuno, a rival school, had gotten stronger since Aoba Johsai last played them. Oikawa fell into a routine of ignoring your texts, opting to train until every muscle in his body was sore and Iwaizumi had to threaten him to go home. In lieu of sleep, he would analyze Karasuno's video tapes to see their usual strategies.
If you watched the team during practice, Oikawa rarely ever smiled. His voice remained as warm as ever, but his jovial expression was replaced with a terrifying glare. The Tooru you had fallen in love with seemed to have disappeared.
After practice, the two of you would walk home together. What once was a way for Oikawa to cheerfully ramble to you alone had become him speeding past you with a quiet scowl.
You jogged to catch up with him, "Tooru."
"Yeah?" He refused to look at you or slow down.
"What's wrong? You're not as cheery as you usually are."
He sighed, "Nothing's wrong. Just stressed."
"I'm worried about you though. You've been doing nothing but practicing for days on end. You should take a break."
Oikawa finally slowed down before replying, "I can't! This is our final time to go to nationals in high school. If I let Karasuno beat us..."
"It'll be okay if you don't go to nationals! I know it'll hurt but it wouldn't be the end of the world. You're gonna go pro. You're an amazing player even if you lose."
"It wouldn't be the same! This is the last time us third years will be on the same team together!"
"They're your friends, Tooru! I'm sure they'd be fine knowing everyone gave their all in the end. Karasuno's third years probably feel the same way as you! Losing does not mean you're weak."
"Yes it does! In middle school, I was overshadowed by a kid that's now a first year on Karasuno's team. He's younger and dumber but he still stole everything from me!"
"He's a kid, Tooru! He probably looks up to you-" Before you could finish, Oikawa rolled his eyes and walked up to his house, slamming the front door closed. You tore your defeated gaze away from his house to make your way into yours.
Oikawa refused to talk to you after that day. He continued his toxic routine up until the day of the match against Karasuno. He didn't notice that you were in the audience, in the front row along with other peers cheering the team on. You tried not to stare at Tooru the whole time but found yourself constantly drifting back to him.
You witnessed the team's demeanor deflate at Karasuno's win. You gripped the rails in the stands as you saw the boys begin to tear up one by one.
As Oikawa gathered his things from the locker room, Iwaizumi pat him on the back, saying that their loss wasn't the end of the world despite how much it stung in the moment. That's exactly what you had said too. After his friend walked away, Tooru's fist weakly pounded the locker he slumped in front of.
You were right, he had realized. You were right and he had blown you off like you weren't important to him. You cared about him and he ignored you, blinded by the thought of proving his talent.
"I'm sorry." He whispered before breaking down into sobs, no one left in the room to hear him.

Summary: Your relationship with Nagi continues developing as your first match of the tryouts rolls out, leading you into figuring out how to tell Chigiri about your secret and hoping he doesn't hate you. As the tryouts finish, you're ready to find out if you're playing against the U-20 or not
Part 9 - Part 10 - Part 11 -> Masterlist
After meeting Karasu, who again proves to be similar to the captain of the volleyball team in your school by how his personality is, you two decided to do a small meeting to know how powerful each other is while watching the VR videos of each other; he was an amazing playmaker that knew how to take advantage of the weakest point of the other team, so you two were very compatible on the field; besides, he was a very fun and nice guy, so you two clicked off really easily.
You were waiting to see who was gonna be in your team, a mix of excitement and nervousness. Since the 6 of you have been in the VIP area since yesterday, you had no idea the plans of the rest, which makes it even more nerve-wracking
"Relax, we just need to play" Nagi says flicking your forehead slightly "it doesn't really matter who we get anyways"
"How are you so unaffected by everything, huh? You're not even slightly worried" you hit his arm
"I do get affected…just not too often" he defends himself while looking down at your chest, making you hit him against slightly harder this time while the broadcast starts on the other room
"Yes" you whisper excitedly when you saw the faces, Chigiri right there along with Raichi and Barou
"Excited to be with the princess?" Nagi says while looking at his team
"Well, yeah. It's comforting to be with him after all this time, plus I want to tell him as soon as possible.. aren't you excited to be with Reo?" You ask him
"Well, yeah, but i think it will be awkward for now" he shrugs
You noticed that the second match will be against Team A and Team B, soon selecting the players that will rotate, appearing Isagi on Team A and Chigiri on yours, along with dudes that you didn't know.
You were warming up in the field alongside Karasu when they entered
"Hello" you say to them, smirking at Chigiri "you'll be playing on defense today, okay?"
"Yep, no talking back" Karasu adds
The match starts, after a few passes and some crosses from your team, Shindou is able to score the first goal. Just how you and Karasu had planned, let them play first so you could create a counter attack. You restart the match, Karasu taking it and dribbling away and doing feints in between Isagi and Shindou, making a goal and tying the game.
They restart one more time, this time Karasu luring three of the other team in as you start running towards the goal; you are able to pass the cyan hair boy easily, going behind Rin who fails to notice you as Karasu sends you the ball, letting you score freely.
"You were a second late, idiot" Karasu says to you, high fiving you
"Shut it, this is my first time playing with you"
They restart the game, Rin completely ignoring Isagi as he and the cyan hair boy do some one-two passes, allowing Rin to get to the front of the penalty area. You intercept him just on time, however Shindou appears alongside Chigiri who tries to stop him, using Shindou's movements as a cover to make a goal without the goalie being able to read it.
"Oi, don't face the N°1 face on" Karasu tells you
"And why should I listen to you?" You answer back
"Because otherwise i won't pass to you"
"You know you need me" you retort childishly
"Shut up. Don't you want to include your friend too?" He asks, looking at Chigiri
"If he wants to play, he has to make himself useful, not the other way around"
"Intense, but i agree, let's see what happens"
You walk towards the circle, noticing Chigiri looking at you determined, you smirk at him, challenging him hoping he would do something to prove his worth. You start running with Karasu, going towards the penalty area when you see Chigiri running at full speed from the right, surpassing Isagi quickly. Karasu notices this as well, sending it to Chigiri, who is able to catch it and move for a few seconds before Rin intercepts him. You keep running, passing behind the cyan boy and arriving to the best possibly position you could get in, almost forcibly making Chigiri pass it to you and letting you score another goal.
"Well done, Chigiri" you say to him, helping him stand up
"Thanks"
"You're useful" adds Karasu
The game restarts again, the cyan boy sending a perfect pass to Rin, so could have scored if Shindou hasn't tried to come for the ball too, causing to send it outside of the penalty area; Chigiri takes it before it goes out, passing it to you as you send it to Karasu, who is able to freely score a goal, you were winning 4 - 2
They restart the game once again, Karasu keeping his hold on Isagi as the cyan boy tries to pass around to Rin, but you keep intercepting him and not letting the eyelashes boy alone, that's when a boy with a white bandana starts running alongside Isagi, allowing him to escape Karasu for a few seconds and doing a pass between those two. Isagi wants to pass to Rin, but since you were in his tail he ends up passing to Shindou instead, who makes a goal. Once you restart the game Karasu and Rin seem to match up, the raven boy trying to pass Rin as you wait for him, when suddenly Isagi appears and steals the ball from both of them.
He starts a counter attack right away, but you're able to intersect him almost right away, but the cyan boy and the bandana one help him out by doing quick passes between them. Chigiri is able to cut them off, but Isagi is able to find a spot making the cyan boy pass to him, however, Isagi was just a step short the ball, allowing you to kick it away, making it a free ball with Rin and Karasu trying to have it, Rin winning it and making a goal.
You restart the game for the last goal, Karasu quickly surrounded by both Rin and Isagi, so he sends the ball towards Chigiri, but out of nowhere Shindou appears, hitting the ball away from him. The ball goes to Isagi as you keep guarding Rin, so he passes to the cyan boy, who's cut by Chigiri quickly. You suddenly feel a chill down your spine, Isagi's aura suddenly change, and while you wanted to go block him, you couldn't just left Rin alone; the cyan boy sends a pass in the perfect position, making both Rin access Shindou goal for the ball but instead of any of them getting, Isagi appears in the middle taking it and scoring the last goal of the match.
Despite winning you could see the tension between the team, soon Rin and Shindou starting to fight physically, so you sit in the floor watching them entertained
"I can't believe we lost to them, so can childish" Karsu says sighing
"Kinda fun really" you add
«ANY FURTHER ACTS OF VIOLENCE DURING THE SELECTION WILL RESULT IN DISQUALIFICATION. BREAK UP IMMEDIATELY AND PASSIONATE FOR THE NEXT MATCH»
You start walking towards the locker room, the rest of the team quickly going to the showers so they can watch the match between Team A and Team C. You close your eyes to relax a little while waiting for them to leave the showers, getting scared once someone taps your shoulder after a few minutes, a wet red hair in front of you with just a towel on
"Hey, still with that complex of yours? You haven't changed drastically since now you're in the top 6, right?" He teases you, a smirk on as he ruffles your hair
"Yeah, that complex won't leave until i do" you joke to
"Well then, i was the last one there, it should be empty now" he starts drying himself, soon moving his hands towards the towel that was covering him. Sure, he thought he was with a dude, and you could probably let it happen freely, but guilt started to appear, making you stand up towards the door
"Hey" he hums at your call "i need to tell you something, let's talk after I shower?"
"Sure, no problem, I'll wait for you in the monitor room"
You shower quickly, your heart beating like crazy as the anxiety builds in, what if he hated you? What if he doesn't want to keep being your friend anymore? You couldn't blame him, your whole friendship was built out of a lie, so it would make sense if he doesn't want to anymore; sure, Nagi didn't mind at all, if anything he seemed to like the fact you were a girl a lot better, but Nagi wasn't Chigiri. Your hands started to sweat the moment they found the knob of the door, Chigiri waiting for you while watching the match.
"Hey, I'm here" You call him, making him pause the video
"You were quick, did you really shower?" He jokes, nudging you when you sit down. You forced a chuckle out, his eyes worried "okay, spit it out, what is it?"
"Chigiri…i… i have been…i am…" you mumble a couple of words, unable to bring it up right away. You look at him, a confused yet supporting look in his eyes as he waits for you to finish. You cover your eyes with your hands, ready to just say it once and for all "I'm a girl"
"I know" he says, it took you a few seconds to process it, making you look through your fingers confused and him laugh "the signs were quite obvious, really, everyone else is pretty dumb to realize"
"You…you knew? Since when?" You are dumbfounded
"I first thought about it in the match against those twins, when we fought, Ego yelled at me when I tried to open your binder to let more air in. Then things just made sense, you never shower with us, change with us, you're often comfortable with skin ship, you blush when you see us naked or without clothes. It kinda make sense"
"You…knew for that long? Why didn't you say something to me?"
"I'm sure you have your reasons, besides, it doesn't really change much, you're still my friend and i still resp-ugh" he gets cut off when you suddenly went to hug him, basically throwing yourself in his arms. He is shocked at first, but he chuckles after a few seconds and hugs you back, petting your head softly "were you worried?"
"I thought you wouldn't want to be my friend anymore" you whisper, your eyes getting wet as you hug him tighter
"Idiot" he pinch your side playfully "i bet this was hard to deal with, I can't imagine how many emotions you have bottle up, sorry for not being here for you sooner"
“Its alright” you say, tears starting to roll down unconsciously
“Don´t cry, you idiot” he hits your head softly “does Ego-san knows? Or anybody, really?”
“Ego knows, he told me to join so i can help you guys up…and Nagi is the only one that knows”
“So you told Nagi before me? How dare you?” he says playfully, moving you away to clean your tears from your face
“He untied my binder in the third match of the second selection, he almost saw me naked” you hit his arm “He has known since then, it has been really relieving”
“I see…so that's why he was so touchy with you, huh? He's a slick man, I must say” he chuckles, shaking his head “so what are you planning to do now? Are you gonna keep going until you're eliminated?”
“I guess…i haven't thought much about it yet, for now i need to focus on this selection first” you say, laying your head on his shoulders “you don't mind this right?”
“Nah, i have an older sister so i'm kinda used to this” he says petting your hair once again "it's a shame that we lost, but i did felt like i got noticed…you could have help me a little though"
"Nah, you had to figure it out yourself, i can't let you outshine me after all" you cuddle a little closer into him
"I'll surpass you, little one" he says "look, the second match is about to start. Your boy better kick that antenna boy ass"
"M-my boy?! Nagi?!" You ask, feeling your face getting redder as the match starts, Chigiri just laughs at your embarrassment
"Well, yeah, what? You thought that I didn't hear you say that he was cute when you first saw him play?" He pokes your side again "hope Reo doesn't get jealous"
"Shut up and watch the match" you say, getting even more red than before while properly sitting next to Chigiri, both of you focusing on the match
Team C ended up losing 3 - 5, but despite how well they played, both Nagi and Reo interactions seemed to be quite tense, especially at the end when Nagi leaves Reo behind while he was sitting on the floor.
"They lost" you say
"Yeah, those two are insane, and so is Nagi and the dude with glasses.. you're one amazing player to be paired with them"
"Thanks for the vote of confidence" you hit him as you stand up, the TV's announcing that the next match will start in ten minutes "gotta go, I'm going to prep for the match"
You lost the next match against Team A and won against Team B, you were able to score a total of 4 goals between those two matches. By the end of the last one, Team A vs Team C, you were in the VIP room getting ready while watching it, noticing how both Rin and Shindou fight each other, Shindou kneeling him in the face and getting ready to basically knock him up if it wasn't because he got electrocuted. He was a good player, you couldn't deny that, but his violent attitude was a major red flag no matter how much of an egoist he was. Ego appears on the TV, giving the next announcements:
«The tryouts are over, six hours from now i will announced the regulars for the match against the U-20 team»
You were eating dinner alongside Nagi, Chigiri, and Yukimiya; in front of you a slice of pizza from Nagi, some chinese food from Yukimiya, fried chicken from Chigiri and your trusty old curry that was shared around too. The ambiece was a mixture of excitement and nervousness, everyone just wanting to receive the news of who will be part of the team.
You're now in the central room, just one more minute until the regular announcements; Nagi was by your side, and so was Chigiri. When the clock reaches zero a door opens up, Ego coming out with fog and lighting.
"Good work out there, you unpolished gems, I think this makes it the second time we're meeting directly..?" He says, making you roll your eyes as he starts explaining how he decided on the players. Deep down you wanted to be part of it, but you didn't know if Ego was going to let you be "first, the number one player, Itoshi Rin. This team will be centered around you, in an aggressive offense oriented formation"
He keeps explaining, quite expected to be honest, he was the one who made the most goals out of the whole tournament.
"The goalkeeper.." Ego continues "Gagamaru Gin…, next the two center backs, Aryu Jyubei and Niko Ikki. On either side of those two, we'll have two players that boost speed and technique; for the left side, Bachira Meguru, and for the right side, Chigiri Hyoma" Ego says. You look at Chigiri smiling, hitting his arm excitedly when his name was called out
"You did it! Well done" you whisper excitedly, he smirking at you
"The midfielder, Karasu Tabito…from on here on out i will announce the attackers, first, the ones who will tear down the enemy's wall, the wings will be Yukimiya Kenyu and…Yl Yn"
You hear your name being called, and soon enough you start feeling hands in your hair and hitting your back, both Nagi and Chigiri patting your head while Bachira and Karasu seem to be the ones overly excited.
"You got in, too!" You hear a loud whisper from Bachira
"Well, of course sh-he will, he's good, you know?" Nagi says nonchalantly, almost slipping oit in your secret but managing to quickly recover
"Okay, let me continue" Ego calls loudly, it's barely visible, specially if you don't know him, but you can see a tiny little smile when he noticed the support you had "and finally, at the heart of the offense will be the next two players…Nagi Seishiro, a brilliant outstanding talent"
"Well done, although expected" you nudge him, receiving a nod as his eyes light up ever so slightly
"...and finally, as the ideal partner to Itoshi Rin, the last piece is you…Isagi Yoichi. This are the top 11 who will face the U-20 Japan team"
He then proceeds to explain why Shindou wasn't playing, a question propped by Yukimiya, a simple reason really, not only he didn't spark any chemical reaction with Rin, but also he was too violent that it could cause him a red card. However, he was put as the joker in case there was a need to replace Rin…plan that was dismantled because Itoshi Sae wanted him on the team.
"...we have 15 days left, in this time, you'll go under training to become a team, there is no longer room for failure"
After the first training session, an exhausting one, with everyone else, you were in the Blue Lock meeting room, in which Ego was talking about the 'flow' and how you should try to enter in that state of mind to have even higher possibilities to win.
The days pass quickly, a repetition of similar stuff happening; now you're in the locker room, only 15 minutes away from the match.
"Hey, how does it look?" You ask both the boys in front of you, with your blue lock uniform on, a big 3 in the middle of it.
"You look good with it"
"Beautiful" they both say at the same time, the red hair chuckling at the boldness of the white one
"It feels weird wearing an uniform" you say, petting Nagi's head
"I know, especially since it's from Blue Lock" Isagi adds
"We really are playing against the U-20, we've come crazy far" Chigiri says
"But today won't be the end, in fact, we're just getting started" Nagi says now just on time when Ego comes in. He announces the players that will be on the bench, giving a small pep talk
"... We're winning this Blue Lock, today you'll carve your egos into the world" Ego ends his speech, everyone starting to walk towards the field. You follow too, Ego stopping when you passed by his side "well done, Yn-chan, your job is already completed, so you can enjoy this match"
"Yes" you answer back, going to where Chigiri and Nagi are waiting for you. Even if he hasn't told you anything definitive yet, you already knew, this was probably your last match as part of Blue Lock.
You line up, seeing the U-20 players on the other side while you start stretching "I'm getting excited"
"Same here" Chigiri says, raising his hand for a high five
You walked into the stadium, going to your positions as you keep looking at the huge crowd. It's not like you were nervous, you didn't care who was watching after all, but it felt weird having so many people watching the match; when you used to play for the girls team at your school barely anyone showed up. You keep looking around when a hand hits your head slightly
"Don't tell me you're nervous" Nagi says to you
"Don't hit me!" You hit his arm back "and no, I'm not, just surprised by the crowd"
"Well, that's good, cause we're winning this" he says petting your head before going back to his position.
The match starts now.

do u have any bokuto timeskip headcanons friend? :>
yes! some of the ones i consider to be foundational to my timeskip bokuto lore since im sleepy:
to preface i am a bokuto lesbian moms believer and i think he is really close with them and continues to rely on them for help navigating his life forever. you will have to pry the way they baby him from me in a fight to the death
he and atsumu are like, the word isnt inverses but theres something about them to me that is the same but different idk, anyway i think theyre friendship is super important to both of them, like theres unspoken understanding between the two of them. soulmateism but for teammates turned friends. one of them has a problem or is experiancing overload the other one already knows and is on it kinda thing. is it realistic? no but i dont care. i think tho, from an outsiders perspective theyre just friendly, or just spend a lot of time together because theyre teammates almost the exact same age, but iykyk.
bokuto to me is someone who can be friends with anyone, but not anyone will be friends with him. i think if you can kick it with someone without prejudice you can kick it with him cause he has a very open heart but not everyone can handle its strength. he is however very genuine with his affection so most people at least get along with him over time if not at first
he is considered a bit of a risk when traveling because of his tendency to wander around paying attention to small details instead of important markers and gets lost
i also think bokuto and aran are best friends because bokuto is practical enough to ease aran's anxiety and aran doesn't hold strangeness against you
i think him and ushijima are work nemesis for a period. why? maybe bokuto retains some of his friendly competition for ushijima from high school and it rubs him the wrong way, maybe bokuto misinterperets ushijima's demeanor as dismissive of him in a way people who dont like him are, who knows, all i know is they one day both decide theyre over it and become ride or die acquaintences like they dont hang out but if you give one of them shit the other with triple homo spike pass you to an early grave
i think bokuto, if he gets upset on the court, is probably gonna get upset at himself, or the lights being a little brighter than he anticipated, or he didn't give the pose he wanted when people took pics on the way in or whatever- when his teammates start yelling at the other team/ref or kicking at the net, hes the one to calmly redirect them to focusing on the next play. all of this to say that if you see him pissed.... its a match for the history books.... im talking turkiye v brazil vnl 2023 vibes- fucking crazy
the little acrobatic tricks he does at the beginning of the jackadlers match is part of my personality. you (furudate) can force me to accept he graduated from university, but you (furudate) will never make me believe he didnt at least try to go to clown school.
he is one of those volleyball players that has your regularly scheduled match/ sponsorship/ travel/ occacional fancams posts but also whatever his current interest is is super obvious because his feed will be broken up by a million posts about cacti or a type of australian spider or a deep dive into every type of cloud or the color blue or something
hes the type of player who gets interviewed midmatch and after throroughly complimenting everyone on court he recounts every point like it has been the highlight of his life- the interviewer is always extremly confused and unsure of how to cut him off
hes also one of the life of the party players- gets a service ace and does a lil victory lap or does tiktok dances from the bench when the camera is on him
also this is slightly less related but bokuto's moms have taken akaashi as one of their own and bokuto gets really upset if they all hangout without him and dont send a selfie of their time together.
i think at somepoint aran explains to him kita's definition of confidence and after that he is better at not shutting down midmatch- he tries to anticipate things he cant anticipate and focus on the parts of the game that remain conistant- but it continues to be hard for him in day to day life- in fact id say that the older he gets the harder time he has
he and kuroo text everday- about everything and nothing- but they continue to be besties
i mean this seriously i think he can dabble in drag as a treat
i think he has to balance being himself and being loved for it and being aware of the ways people negatively perceive him...
everyone assumes he is a pr teams worst nightmare but actually that honor goes to sakusa, but bokuto will help him with it
im too sleepy now but thank you for asking!!

Can you please please write Miya triplets hc? What if Atsumu and Osamu had a troublesome triplet sister just like themselves? Whether he is interested in sports or volleyball is up to you. Thank you 💞
Miya triplets headcanons
Atsumu, Osamu and Y/n, these three were known to cause trouble when they were kids. The three of you really did like to play pranks on anyone. First it was your parents, then your grandparents, when you three entered school, it became your classmates.
Your school then put the three of you into three different classes because they really could not handle the three of you together.
This was when Osamu began to calm down and became the more calmer and quieter one out of your three. Though that did not mean he would stop teasing you and Atsumu.
Though the school could not keep you three apart all the time, there was lunch where students from different classes would hang out and eat together.
You would be sitting with your friends, laughing and chatting away when all of a sudden your juice is gone. You stop laughing immediately and look at your friends who were already looking at Atsumu.
"Give it back!" You stand up and go to grab it back.
"No, you swapped our juices didn't you? It's only fair that I get to drink both juices- OW"
You punched his stomach and when he bent down you grabbed the juice box and quickly drank it all.
"Why you litTLE-"
Now your brother is chasing you down the hallways and around the school until lunch break is over. Osamu had watched the two of you run back and forth outside from his classroom window, looking down at the two of you like you both were two complete idiots.
While growing up, your brothers had always been attracted to sports, your parents would put you in sports too because they wanted to take cute pictures of the three of you together, holding up a ball all muddy.
You then grew to like playing sports too and began to willingly join your brothers in their games.
Then came high school (middle school? i forgot which stage of education they are in when they play volleyball :/) and you noticed your brothers had joined the boys volleyball club.
You don't know why they chose volleyball out off all the sports they could have chosen. Don't think you ever played volleyball that much either.
There was a day where you had forgotten your house keys and you knew your parents weren't gonna be home so you went over to your brothers' practice to ask them to give you their spare key.
That's when you first officially met their teammates and since the coach wasn't in that day, their captain allowed you to hang out with them for a bit ( totally not because they all sort of had a crush on you ).
You had your brothers' teammates teach you the basics of volleyball and whenever you would fail a serve or a receive, you would hear your brothers' annoying, loud laughs behind you. That's when you would throw the volleyballs at them, hoping to hit all the laughter out of them.
After that day, you would sometimes watch your brothers practice before deciding that you too also want to play volleyball. So then you joined the girls team.
Sometimes the school would have a mini match with the boys team against the girls team, that's when you would challenge your brothers saying that if you win then they both have to you snacks and if they win you have to buy them snacks.
Safe to say, both sides have had their wallets bruised enough times.
You noticed that volleyball became a rather important hobby to your brothers, specifically Atsumu. You enjoyed volleyball yourself too but as the school years went by, you don't think you would want to make a career out of it. Osamu told you that he too shared the same feelings. So then after your third year, you both decided to cheer Atsumu on from the sidelines while he reaches his volleyball goals.
Though I keep thinking that you too would have a career which causes you to have some fame too. Like a singer or an actor, maybe a famous author? But I feel like if you were to ever have interviews, they would ask you about Atsumu and think that you both were twins. You would then tell them that actually you do have another brother and the three of you are triplets. This would cause your fans to want to see to interact with Atsumu and your other brother whose name they do not know.
Even though the three of you grew up arguing and only working together to throw pranks on others, the three of you do love each other very much. You remember when you had gotten into your first relationship, your brothers had gotten very, very protective of you. So you know that even if the three of you grow up and end up living very far away, the bond you all have as siblings could never be severed.

the victorious sentiment echoed in the stadium, the cheers specifically belonging the crowds adorned in gold and black. the match between the msby jackals and the ejp raijin had finally concluded, with the jackals coming out on top.
the thing about atsumu was that no matter what—once he gets into your life, he never seems to get out of it. you thought taking a job as a manager for the raijin (which, last time you checked, their home location was definitely not in osaka) would finally get you to part ways with the setter and heal from the obviously unrequited puppy crush that grew out of hand.
unfortunately, the japanese volleyball world seemed to be quite small, considering the numerous times the two teams went against one another. well, perhaps it was good luck for you; you weren't exactly ready to let him go as a friend yet.
(in your opinion, the word 'friend' was a bit of a stretch, but your point remained standing.)
atsumu, like always, was one of the players that were the center of attention in all his sweat-drenched glory; honestly, it was quite difficult not to notice him.
so, after congratulating the opposing team's manager and coach, you decide to be the good sportsmanship-like person you are and praise his performance (as well as stretch his already over-inflated ego... but it wouldn't be that bad, right?)
"miya-kun!" you called out once he was finished talking to some interviewers, running up to him when he acknowledged your presence with that stupidly big grin of his. once you eventually stood before him, it was as if the words you were mentally preparing yourself to say we're stuck in your throat. "y-you did great today!"
"didn't i tell 'ya to call me atsumu? 'ya know i'm not gonna let 'ya call me that when 'samu and i are in the same room, so why stop there?"
you flushed at the forwardness, though you respected his wishes regardless. "well then... atsumu-kun, you did great!"
he arched his neck back with his hands stationed at his hips, laughing for a while at how swiftly you corrected your "mistake."
"wow," the setter chuckled a bit before finishing with a cocky smirk. "didn't think i woulda had one of my fans be a manager for the raijin, out've all people."
you froze a bit slightly for some reason, but found yourself relaxing not long afterward. he never seemed to change. sometimes, you forget he's just as dorky as ever. you didn't hold back from comparing it to volleyball—he still played the same way as he did in high school.
"well, of course i am, atsumu," you've stated blankly, as if this were and obvious fact. before hearing those words fall out, the blond's head drifted slightly to study a nearby team warming up for a match. however, when he finally registered it in his head he widened his eyes, doing a double take. "you've come a long way from high school... and that rally when you faked a dump, a set, yet actually dumped was nothing short of incredible-"
not bearing to let you incessantly compliment him despite it being only five seconds, the man interrupted. "yeah, yeah... i know, i'm amazin', aren't i? is it gettin' hot in here? personally... i think they should tone down the heater right about now, heh."
you noticed that? was along the lines of the blond's thoughts as he tried to cool down the burning red on his face, blazing across his cheeks. the announcers kind of brushed it under the rug, much to his chagrin, yet it wasn't a big deal that he was noticed. why did you make it a big deal? most importantly, why did he?
"atsumu!" you called out, breaking him out from his thoughts by perching your hand on top of his shoulder. "you're heating up and spacing out... i know i'm not the jackals' manager but you really have to start lookin' out for yourself. though, i suppose it's kind of warm in here..."
"'ya know what? you don't gotta get me to the infirmary, [name]-san. it's scorchin' in here!"
not paying attention to the somewhat cryptic wording, your eyes bounced around the arena, attempting to find the quickest route to get atsumu taken care of. "right, just follow me okay—oh my god."
it all happened too fast—you swore he was wearing a shirt a few seconds ago, and now it was held snugly around his arms before he practically shoved it into your hold.
rather than resting your focus on his defined figure (though, to be fair, you couldn't but sneak a glimpse of it), your eyes were trained on his damp, black and gold jersey, displaying the number in bold font: 13. a part of you didn't even feel the least bit disgusted at the admittedly gross gesture, you simply were standing there, paralyzed in the sheer audacity of it all.
"i- atsumu, there's no way i can-"
"anythin' for a fan, am i right?" he smirked, paying no heed to suddenly grabbing the attention of various newscasters not to far from you two.
deciding to escalate the situation even further, he added something else to the conversation in a lower tone. "if 'ya want, i can give 'ya my shorts, too."
winking at you and flashing his teeth, you couldn't help but feel the urge to turn in your two weeks' notice.

the awe of the crowd watching the tiniest player in the msby jackals soaring above his teammates and opponents couldn't even come close to holding a candle to your own expression.
it's only amazing to see that he's come so far... you remember when you first discovered HINATA on that low-quality, youtube video you discovered when searching for nothing in particular attempting to fill the void of having absolutely nothing better to do. even at his debut, even at the clumsiness he initially felt during the beginning of the match, you could feel that there was pure passion and skill behind it all.
when you heard that the infamous ninja-shoyo was coming to japan and made the msby black jackal's starting lineup, you knew you just had to purchase a ticket for one of his games as soon as your busy, hectic life would let you. and now here you are, already have been to seventeen of his games (and counting!) managing to somehow score the same seat in the middle of the stadium, particularly on the side with the gold and black team playing.
the excitement coursing in your veins still remained even after 30 minutes since the match had concluded. the little grin on your face continued to stretch as you ordered some onigiri near the food stand that had been set up right outside the volleyball court; not even the scene where one man (who, may you add, bore a strange resemblance to the owner of the food stall) and two others out of your peripheral vision were causing beside you, clamoring about how they deserve food on the house for "winning," wasn't able to break your attitude.
inevitably, your prior upbeat mood had toned down, now replaced by a strong sense of curiosity regarding the situation behind you. it was only a matter of time before you couldn't handle it, swiftly turning your head around to see what was up. though, you weren't necessarily expecting to have your eyes widen at the sight.
the blond one was somebody you recognized from the game earlier and behind him was a spiky, silver haired man, who also participated in the match. apparently, you didn't notice the obvious pattern, seeing as you still managed to widen your eyes even more when you noticed the fluff of orange hair right behind you.
for a split second, both you and hinata locked eyes, before you glanced away first. you directed your attention toward the onigiri stand, hoping that they could just hurry it up your order so you wouldn't have to stand around here for much longer-
"hey!" an unfamiliar voice called out. judging by the way it came behind you, there was an unfortunately high possibility of it being one of those three players. reluctantly, you glanced back, with the opposite hitter's eyes practically boring into yours. "didn't i see you before?"
he was met with confusion as you quirked an eyebrow. "w-what do you mean?"
you hope to the universe he didn't mean he saw you doing something embarrassing, like buying his merch in public or something of the sort.
a few moments pass, mostly consisting of hinata pondering a bit, glancing at you every now and then while looking down at his shoes trying to figure out your identity. how long was your onigiri going to take to get ready?!
"ah! i know!" hinata suddenly exclaimed, pushing the side of his fist into his palm. "you're the person i always see at our games!"
you take what you previously thought was embarrassing back—nothing compared to that tiny observation could be any more humiliating.
"bokuto-san, miya-san, i think we just found a fan!!"
"as if we don't see more than one everyday, shokkun," the blond disregarded hinata's discovery, going back to haggle the price of onigiri with the owner once more, the sounds of their bickering fading behind you.
"ah, it's your very first fan interaction!" the owl-headed one piped up—based on how loud he was, you were surprised he didn't cause an even larger scene. "they're really special, and they're regular too, which makes it super special! you should give them something!!"
ignoring the blatant display of total embarrassment shoved in your face, you noticed how hinata seemed to be thinking rather hard on this subject.
"you know what, i know what you can do!" might as well get something out of this, right? "my onigiri is taking a little while, and since your teammate seems to know the proprietor personally, maybe you can get it on the house for me-"
"i know!" the ginger-haired man interrupted your brilliant idea. regardless, you didn't say anything; you were curious what was in his mind that he believed was better than free food. "i can get you my jersey!"
you blinked owlishly, feeling the urge to cock your head to the side in confusion at the sudden outburst, only being able to muster up a, "huh?"
hinata nodded, almost excitedly. "yeah, i think that sounds good, doesn't it?"
"well, sure, but i think my onigiri would be even better-"
you suddenly sputtered, your words refusing to come out of your mouth as you watched hinata pull up his shirt, exposing his attractively toned body. understandably, not wanting attract too much attention and cause your onigiri to be even more delayed, you grabbed the hem of his jersey and yanked it down.
"i'm good! really, a selfie or something would do!" you panicked, retracting your hands away from him.
"but, wouldn't you want a jersey of your favorite player?"
"...you aren't wrong-"
"then it's settled then!" before your reflexes activated, he yanked his jersey over his head, handing it to you as he bowed. "i hope you support our team in the future!"
you weren't sure if this "souvenir" would encourage you to come to more of their games or swear off of watching volleyball ever again.

“Why do you hate me? Have I not suffered enough?”
“Aspen, honey,” Sage, her agent, began.
The tall brunette turned to her agent and shook her head. “No.” she responded before walking to her closet.
“It’s just an evening.” they said as if it would soften the blow. They got up from their seat and walked up to Aspen, who threw her things into her suitcases. “Honey, this could be a good way to prove that you’re over it. You just finished filming a movie, and you won your first Tony a few months back. In addition, earlier this week, you got nominated for your first Grammy. Things are looking good for you. It's been eight months.”
Sage was right, it had been eight months. Eight months since Aspen’s whole life fell apart. Eight months since her soccer player ex got caught cheating on her with Arsenal's, the team he plays for, main jersey chaser. And instead of him getting called out for being a cheating asshole, Aspen got the short end of the stick. She was ridiculed all over social media getting called stupid for thinking that someone with his career would be loyal. She also got dragged through the mud by the team’s fans for taking away attention from the fact that he scored the winning goal and the team won their match against their rivals.
There was a knock coming from the main door of her penthouse suite. Aspen set down her things and went to see who was at the door. She checked the peephole and cursed.
"They put you up to this, didn't they." She said opening the door to the last person she wanted to see.
"Damn, not even a hello." Jack said, touching his chest. "And to think I brought you Nandos."
"Get inside." She said, rolling her eyes.
"Yo, she saw right through it." He told Sage when he set down the take-out bag on the counter in front of the kitchenette. He grabbed the food he ordered for himself and went to sit on a couch.
"I just want to go home and not think about work until next year." Aspen said, rummaging through the bag to see what he got her.
"Honey, just do this one thing for me and you're off the hook for the rest of the year." Her agent clasped their hands together, pleading.
"Promise?" She held out her pinky finger to her.
"Promise." Sage nodded, wrapping their pinky around Aspen’s.
"Fine." She said begrudgingly.
"Great! Your cousin will be here first thing with some look compiled." They said, grabbing their Birkin that was next to Jack.
"I was going no matter what, huh." Aspen said
"That's right." Her agent smiled innocently. They waved at Jack and exited the suite.
"Where are you going?" Jack asked.
"The stupid GQ awards thingy." Aspen waved her hand in the air. She sat criss-cross applesauce next to him and dug in her food. "He's going to be there."
"Oh, I'm going to that, so are Urban and Ace. If anything happens, we'll defend your honor."
"Great, what I just need is for my ex to see me with my other ex." She said sarcastically, rolling her eyes.
Jack could feel her nerves radiate off her body. Undoubtedly, anyone In Aspen’s shoes would be nervous to be in the same room as their ex, especially after what they did to her. When he saw the video of her ex and the other woman making out at some club, he felt angry with him. Only an idiot would fuck up and lose Aspen. Jack would know, he let her walk away because he was too scared to fight for their relationship. He'll do anything to get her back, but for now he'll settle by being her friend, even if it meant that he had to comfort her while she brooded over her shitty ex.
"This shit isn't all that, you know." He said to change the subject, pointing at the nearly finished Nandos plate. "I don't know why this had a chokehold on you when we were in high school."
"You can be honest. I'm not gonna snitch on you to KFC that you had chicken somewhere else."
"At least because of this, I was able to bag you back in the day."
"What do you mean?"
"Your little obsession with Niall was how I knew you had a thing for us Irish folk." Jack said confidently.
Nearly ten years ago Jack and Aspen first became a couple the summer before they started their junior year of high school. But they were friends for years. They were always the first to sign up for community or school talent shows. One of the things they had in common was they both knew they were meant to be famous.
After high school, Jack moved to Atlanta to pursue his music, Aspen moved to LA for school to study psychology. But deep down she knew her true calling was acting, it had been since she was young.
She knew she was meant to be on stage or in front of the camera. One of her fathers was the head of the performing arts program in the University of Louisville, so she spent most of her free time growing up in the theater. She fell in love with it. There was something special about being able to put on a costume and transform into someone completely different for a few hours. She loved having all eyes on her while she brought a script back to life. It was second nature for her.
One day, back in 2018, after her ecology lab, she saw a sign posted in the quad about open auditions for casting for a movie. The part wasn't for one of the main characters. She was auditioning to play the older sister of one of the main characters. After several rounds of auditions, she didn't get the role, but the casting director offered her another role. It was for one of the main female characters of her favorite book series when she was in high school that was going straight to series on Amazon Prime. She accepted it immediately and dropped out of school.
She was nervous to tell her dads. They both wanted her to go to school first so she could have a backup plan in case acting didn't work out for her. But upon hearing the news, they were excited for her and got in contact with Sage, a friend of theirs who worked in the entertainment industry. They became Aspen’s agent and the rest just fell into place.
Jack and Aspen ended up breaking up in early 2019. Their lives got hectic. Jack's music was slowly but surely taking off and Aspen was focused on the show. Since they wanted to follow the series's timeline, they had to film everything within two years. Each season would come out with months between them. It was very ambitious, but the series was able to get it done. It became insanely popular, competing with other teen shows and movies from other streaming services.
Despite everything, Jack and Aspen remained close friends. In 2021, they were seen together at one of Jack's festival shows and people all over Twitter were confused. Everyone was confused because they seemed like an unlikely pair. The only thing they had in common was that they were both from Louisville. Aspen rarely talked about her life before she got famous, just the general stuff about her family and how she was in college when she started acting. While Jack was pretty open about his life growing up, he never mentioned his relationship with Aspen. Mostly because there wasn't much to tell. They have known each other since middle school, dated when they were sixteen and broke up in 2019 on good terms. After that they remained good friends, but didn't hangout because they had busy schedules.
At some point a fan page posted a picture of the pair at their senior prom that they found buried deep in the depths of Facebook, implying that they dated. Said fan page also went through so many posts on all social media platforms, screenshotting and screen recording their interactions and posted 'evidence' that there was more than what Jack and Aspen were telling them. So Jack made a statement telling his fans to stop lurking through old Facebook accounts because it was weird and evasive.
"What are you thinking about?" Jack asked her as he picked up their now empty food containers.
"That we fucking made it." She laughed to herself quietly. "We're in fucking London. You're about to finish the European leg of your world tour and I just finished filming a movie."
"I'm not surprised. I knew we were meant for this." He shrugged as if it wasn't a big deal. "It was about time people got with the program."
"Yeah?" She asked him quietly.
"You're a star, Aspen."
"I'm a staur." She said like Mia Goth in Pearl when her character had a breakdown after getting rejected by the church dance troupes.
They both giggled, leaning into each other. Aspen’s green eyes gazed into Jack's blue eyes. Without thinking twice, she cupped his cheek and claimed his lips. Jack kissed her back, deepening their kiss. Without breaking their kiss, Aspen straddled one of his thighs, slowly rubbing herself against his dark jeans. She wrapped her arms around his shoulders as his hands rested on her ass.
"When I came over, I didn't come to coerce you into sex." Jack said, breaking their kiss.
"I know." Aspen said breathlessly. "I want–"
"Sex with you is the last thing on my mind." He said, sliding her off his lap. "I have to go…I'm sorry, dude."
***
Aspen smiled for the cameras. She looked radiant as ever in a custom gown. It was a pale pink, silk-satin, floor length gown that had a large flower around her neck and two cutouts, one above her chest and a small one just below her chest. The dress also had dramatic 80s style shoulder pads. She felt like she was part of an 80s soap opera. She even had a faux fur coat to beat out the cold November night.
Her cousin slash assistant, Rubí, waved her over when she finished the red carpet. "They said we're at table seven. Which is thankfully on the other end where trashcan –I mean– Christian is. He got a seat near the speakers." She said, as they walked to their table.
Aspen looked over to the table and cursed. She spotted the back of stupid Jack's stupid head. She turned to her cousin, clasping her hands, and begged, "Rubí, why don't we just go back to the hotel? I did the red carpet. Sage wouldn't even know."
"No, I don't know what happened between you and Jack the other night, but you're going to sit through that dinner. And so am I because I'm fucking starving." Rubí wrapped her hand around Aspen’s wrist and dragged her to the table.
Jack and his friends hadn't sat down yet, so they were standing in a huddle. Aspen tried her best to be discreet, but she made eye contact with Urban. She set her things down and went up to the group.
"Hi, guys.” she said, hugging him. Then she hugged Ace.
“Hi, I’m Aitch.” the British rapper said, introducing himself in a tone that was a bit too friendly for Jack’s liking.
“Nice to meet you.” Aspen said, shaking his hand.
Jack extended his arms ready to hug Aspen, but she took a step back. "Dude," she nodded curtly.
She turned to her cousin and whispered in her ear something before turning to the guys. "If you'll excuse us, we're going to grab drinks. Y'all want anything?"
“No, we just got ours already, thank you though.” Urban answered for the group.
Aspen nodded and motioned at Rubí to follow her. Before they reached the bar, Aspen was stopped by Salma Hayek, so the trio made small talk.
“What did you do to piss off Aspen?” Ace asked Jack as they watched her and Rubí walk over to the bar.
“What makes you think I did something?” he said defensively.
“Because we fucking know you. You always do something to piss off Aspen.” Urban shrugged.
“I do not.” Jack scoffed.
Ace and Urban shared a look but dropped the subject. They moved on to talk about Jack’s last few shows in Europe with Aitch. Jack stopped paying attention at some point. His mind went back to the other night when he rejected Aspen. She had every single right to be upset with him. As much as he also wanted to sleep with her, he was being honest with her when he told her that hooking up with her was the last thing on his mind. When her agent called him to help them convince Aspen to attend the awards ceremony. They told him that they knew Aspen wouldn't want to go because her ex was going to be there. He knew better than to try to rouse her up when he knew her mind was somewhere else. Could he have been more gentle with how he told her? Obviously, when he left her suite, he hated himself with how he said it. But he knew Aspen and despite everything, he would do whatever she wanted him to do.
Thoughtlessly, Jack excused himself and went over to the bar. Rubí saw him and pointed at her phone, answering it, leaving Aspen alone.
“Hey,” Jack said, gently squeezing her elbow, “can we talk?”
“There’s nothing to talk about, Jack or should I say dude?” Aspen whispered.
“Just give me five minutes, please.”
“Fine.” she gave in.
She pulled out her phone and texted Rubí that she was going to talk to Jack and they’d be back in five minutes. Jack took her hand, and they left the main venue to look for a more private place to talk. They settled for a bay window.
“Okay, talk.” Aspen motioned, crossing her arms.
“I’m sorry for not wanting to have–”
“You’re so fucking irritating Jack.” She cut him off. “I’m not upset because of that.”
“Then why are you being fucking petty?” he retorted. “I was clear with my intentions. I didn’t want to fuck you when you were still pining over your ex.”
“That didn’t stop you back at your birthday party.” she muttered.
“What was that?” he said.
“Nada.” she said, starting to walk away, but Jack caught her arm and pulled her back to him.
Jack gently pushed her into the brick wall and leaned into her. “Don’t fucking twist my words, dude. You were the one who pulled me to the broom closet at the bowling place. You were the one who dropped her knees and choked on my dick. After that you were the one begging me fuck you in the back of my like old time. And I let you do that because I fucking pittied–”
Aspen cut him off by claiming his lips. The kiss was messy. The urgency between them increased as lust quickly took over as their kiss intensified. He held her in place with his hips. She pulled him closer by his shirt, wanting more of him.
“Shit didn’t mean to interrupt.” Aspen’s ex called behind them, making the pair pull away. He walked away without saying another word, but Jack caught the smirk in his face.
“I’m so sorry.” Aspen began sputtering. “I saw him, and just panicked. I shouldn’t have–”
“You’re a fucking piece of work, Aspen.” Jack wiped his mouth with the back of his hand. “I hope for our sake this is the last time I’m ever in the same room as you.”

she ties it for every single game + she tied it for the draft like she's in those little nhl youtube vids where the draftees are getting ready and she's just tying his tie & everyone goes crazy about it in the comment section
can you write a little blurb about this please!!!
i've been neglecting my daisy and will girls im coming back to yall
Will's hotel room was filled to the brim with family members that Daisy had met months prior when she spent Thanksgiving with the Smiths, cameramen recording footage for the NHL YouTube account, and close friends from high school that Will managed to keep in touch with. Everyone that helped him get to this moment was here, and she was so glad that she could experience it. But she could tell it was overwhelming. I mean, everyone pressuring you to look the best while you're scared shitless, only hours away from seeing your future in the NHL? That's crazy.
Grace pulled Daisy aside, away from the hectic-ness that was this whole entire scene. "Will's freaking out," she whispered.
Daisy narrowed her brows. "I told him I would help him with his tie once he comes out of the bathroom?"
"No," Grace shook her head. "Like he's freaking out. He won't come out of the bathroom, he doesn't want to see our parents, he just wants you. Please... get that boy out of there."
Daisy wondered what was happening. Will has never been like this before. He was always so excited with anything relating to hockey. The weeks leading up to draft, all he would talk about was the anticipation of finding out what team's gonna pick him. He seemed so... fine.
But now, he sat on the edge of the bathtub, his hands in his hair, not even looking up when Daisy sat on the toilet cover beside him, gently tugging his hands out of his blonde locks.
"Talk to me," she whispered. "What's happening? You were so excited."
Will gulped, staring at his hands that was now holding onto Daisy's. He didn't notice he was shaking until it finally stopped. "I can't-" He tried breathing, talking, but nothing was coming out. Everything just felt like so much. Too much.
Everything was riding on this one day. What if everyone had just overhyped him and none of the teams actually wanted him? What if all of his friends get drafted and he's the one that gets left behind? What if he disappointed everyone? What if... what if everything he worked towards just wasn't enough?
"It's okay," Daisy smiled. Her hand going under his chin, raising his gaze to meet hers. She whispered so as to not add to all of the chaos just outside that bathroom door. "You don't need to know how you're feeling right now. This is a lot, and I hate to say it, but the rest of your life is going to be a lot," she softly snickered. "But just take it one step at a time, and I'm here... if that helps."
After a couple of moments, Will nodded, standing up slowly. His breathing regulated as he stood in front of the mirror, looking at himself and then looking at Daisy beside him. It's always Daisy beside him. He couldn't be more grateful for that.
Daisy grabbed the red tie off the counter, slipping it around Will's neck. "Let's start here, hm?"
Again, Will nodded, breathing slowly and bending down as Daisy tied the fabric over each other and finished it off by tightening it to fit his neck. Bringing the flaps of his collar down, she smiled at him.
His cheeks were flushed pink, and his hair was slightly mussed, and his pocket square was drowning in the breast pocket, but he looked like him. Will wasn't perfect, nobody is, but this guy wasn't the same one that was faking smiles and doing interviews. This was Daisy's Will.
"Thank you, baby," he whispered, matching her soft tone. Breathing out, he asked, "Step two?"
"Go outside... and see what happens," she grinned, her hand holding his cheek, her tippy toes raised. "And whatever does happen, I'm right beside you, okay?"
Will relaxed against her hand. "Okay."
Upon opening the door, the two were met with worried looks and cameras that made it impossible to feel at ease. But as Daisy's thumb brushed Will's hand, he remembered to breathe and take it one step at a time.
Days after the draft, Will's NHL YouTube video was uploaded, prompting Daisy and his family to watch it together in the living room in his house back in Boston.
Not knowing his mic and the tiny camera attached to his suit was still on, bits and pieces of their conversation in the bathroom could be seen and heard. Daisy and Will's faces turned beet red after hearing his family squeal and Grace cry at how cute the two of them were. Daisy hid her face in Will's chest as he tried to fight off his smile.
He scrolled through the comments a couple days later, not disappointed by the amount of sweet things everyone had to say.
omg i'm crying they're so cute
I NEED A LOVE LIKE THIS OMG
daisy's the ultimate wag fr
HER TYING HIS TIE?!?!? OMG THATS SO CUTE
if i can't have will, i'm happy that daisy can
it physically pains me to know he's not single, but omg this was the cutest thing i've ever seen in my whole entire life

Hi Hi! How is my favorite author? Well know that I was very happy that you responded to my request, I really liked what you wrote! Well, if it's not too much trouble, I'd like to place another order from Tokyo Revengers, but this time from Bonten's men! Something like Mikey's adopted son who is part of a volleyball team (and is friends with the Haikyuu boys) or basketball team (and is a friend of the Generation of Miracles). I really like sports anime, and your Son Bonten one-shots are really good and make me come up with a million ideas. Hope you are well, so eat well and drink plenty of water! ;)
Tumblr media
I-Im your favorite 🥺👉👈
Damn y'all gonna give me a big ass head god damn
Also as a sports anime fan myself i love this but how dare you make me choose between GOM or our volleybros
I am going volleyball though because I actually know a lot about volleyball because I used to play believe it or not.
Tumblr media
(name) was excited as hell.
(Name)s first official match against another team was coming up! And against another team!
(Name) was so excited to tell his dad's about the match, he hoped at least one of them could come to see it, he understood if they couldn't.
They were really busy after all.
(Name) was technically Mikey's adopted son, but was mutually seen as Bontens collective son since infancy as they all mutually took care of the boy--now teenager, it was just easier to say (name) Sano instead of (name) haitani/kakucho/Kokonoi/Akashi/mochizuki/Sano.
Anyways.
Walking into the mansion, a purchase they made when they realized how much energy the child had (also it was easier to just install what the kid wanted instead of taking him to where he wanted to go) and made a beeline to his dad's office area, where their collective home offices sat.
His dad's sat in the lounge area, talking about something business related and turned when they saw their son return from club activities "ah, it's six already?" Ran said absentmindedly while checking his watch and the men noticed the kid practically vibrating "what's up half pint?" Mochi asked slightly amused at his kids excited nature. "It's my first official match! Like with another school!" (Name) said showing the permission slip so he could go to the other school for the match "can I please go?" He knew his dad's were fiercely protective of his whereabouts, they had to be because after all he was the only child of Bonten.
This wasn't (name)s first official match but it was his first high school match and the fact that he made it into a powerhouse school as Libero was nothing to scoff at and the bonten men were quite proud of their kid, even if his goals weren't what they expected.
"It's at (high school).." Mikey mumbled while looking at the permission slip, the man mulling it over before signing it "I was also wondering if you guys could come? You don't have to if you're busy" (name) said awkwardly and his dad's felt their heart hurt a bit at his words " 'course we will come bud" Kaku said with a soft smile and the shift in mood was astounding as (name) practically radiated with joy "yeah?!"
"Now to take a shower you stink!"

name : gareth jason emerson
nicknames : grizz, gar, gar-bear, grizzly-adams
age : twenty-two
pronouns : he/him
sexuality : bisexual
birthday : august 30th
birthplace : hawkins, indiana
family : jolene emerson (mother), graham emerson (father), whitney emerson (y. sister), archie emerson † (y. brother)
tattoos & piercings : septum and tongue pierced though mostly hides these unless he’s partying in indianapolis or chicago or with the freaks. inner bicep piece of a black dragon curled around a great sword, roman numerals of archie & whitney’s birthdays on his left wrist, a tiny banana between his pointer finger on the right hand for monkey, his dog. a few ugly stick and pokes and some newer ones that are way less ugly.
aesthetics : room temperature pizza, spending half your pay check on polaroid film, a wave of good aftershave, headbanging until your neck feels like it’ll snap, letting your little sister paint your nails, engine oil in denim, love bites by judas priest playing faintly from a pair of headphones, dappled sunlight through forest leaves, sweat in your eyes, broken drumsticks, slinging your arm round the neck of your friend who can’t stop laughing, purple red bruises blooming like a valentines bouquet across your ribs, lovingly restoring old vinyl in the garage, the cold brush of a chain dangling from your lover’s neck against your racing pulse, smashing your fist into concrete until the knuckles split, the scent of old paper, cracked spines and well loved books.
never worn a matching pair of socks in his life, gareth liked garage sale paperbacks, pizza rolls and not much else. back in the day, the first five or six years of gareth’s miserable existence, the family had had a nice ranch style place by the woods but then his dad lost his job and they lost the house. from then on the family were usually too on top of one another, grizz always seeming to end up underfoot.
rock and roll’s the devil’s work, obviously. has soundproofed part of their small basement to practice drumming without getting yelled at.
[family death cw] though he never talks about it at all any more, about twelve years ago grizz’s five year old little brother drowned in lake tippecanoe when his dad briefly took his eyes off them. this kind of tore the family up. his mom left when grizz was fourteen, leaving a wad of cash in an envelope in his dresser and asking him to promise to be a ‘good boy’ until she came back. still waiting.
got a job the second he could during high school and has stayed employed ever since, though bounced around a fair bit.
[child abuse cw] his dad rarely goes a couple weeks without spiralling into a rage and physically attacking grizz which has been the same since his sophomore year, he’s just about to try and move out and find his own place after saving for a few years out of high school but he doesn’t want to leave his sixteen year old sister in the house.
used to be on the track team, a very fast runner.
held average grades at the start of high school, got some special attention from his english teacher who believed sincerely that he could do better if he just focused. managed to do pretty well by graduation but lost confidence in himself and his ability to adapt to living anywhere but hawkins because of his inability to pick a college. feels kind of cursed and stuck in roane county.
corroded coffin is his outlet, along with the ice hockey league he sometimes plays in a town over. has a notebook full of polaroids, quotes or lyric ideas scrawled on diner napkins, drive-in theatre tickets, the stamp from clubs in indianapolis and anything else you can think of, that is usually stuffed in the small of his back.
wears a lot of flannel and his extremely battered leather jacket basically every day of the year.
spends tooooons of time carefully painting the miniatures with tiny brushes for eddie’s d&d campaigns. usually plays a monk or a druid.
has a dog that is a mongrel of too many breeds to count named monkey, he has a neckerchief.
drums on every surface. all. the. time.
built a tree house and dugout in the middle of the forest for his friends from fifth to eighth grade, grizz’s dad is a carpenter by trade so he knows his way around.
makes a meaannnnn mac & cheese, is pretty much always down to clown.
pretty handy at fixing most types of motorbike, has been the only person to touch his own bike for about three years.

The future holds something greater (3/4)
I gripped the straps of my bag, shoulders hunched as I inched closer to my first day of high school. The months spent before my exams weren't spent well, as I was mostly going through some volleyball withdrawals. I felt a pressure on my side, and looked to my brother, who had a knowing smile on his face. I shook my head, a small smile, almost matching his. "You nervous?" I shrugged. "I guess. I mean, for me, it's just high school. It's not like I get to be in the volleyball club." I said that part of me that still loved the sport wilting a bit. "Well, you could always come help our manager? I mean, she's doing great as is, but you could come join her, since technically, it's not playing volleyball." Daichi reasoned. I shook my head. "You aren't wrong" I responded. "I'll think about it, for sure, but it says I'm in class 3" taking a deep breath, waving to my brother, separating from him.
"No problem, this isn't too bad. Mom didn't seem too disappointed with my class." I thought, absentmindedly thumbing through pages. "That means hypothetically, if I keep doing well in my classes. there's a boy in my face, a huge smile on his face. "Hey there!" I raised my hand in a confused wave. He sat in the chair behind me and leaned forward. "You mind if I sit next to you?" the boy asked, same smile still chilling on this face, almost seeming as though it was ingrained into his face. "Nope, I don't mind. Feel free to, actually." I said, a small smile of my own making an appearance. I looked back down at my book, thinking I'd get some quiet before class started. Heh. Surrounded by friends... My teammates made me feel this same way." I said, as my thoughts wandered back to Sawaki. She'd be a second year about now. And Yuzuki. She said she'd be going somewhere entirely different, since her family was planning on moving to Tokyo. "Hey, do you like volleyball?" My thoughts were a thing of the past as the boy's full attention was on me. "Uh... yeah. I love volleyball. I miss playing it, honestly." A whole summer was practically torture, actually. The boy tilted his head curiously. "What do you mean, you miss it? Can't you just go back to playing?" I shook my head. "It's not important. Do you play?" I asked, hopefully redirecting his line of questioning a little bit. It seemed like that was the right call, since his entire being seemed almost electrocuted with the mere mention of volleyball. "Yup! I'm gonna join the volleyball club, actually! Should be right up my alley." He said. his knee bouncing under the desk. He leaned back in his chair, the smile turning into something of a smirk. "This year, I'm gonna be the libero." My heart jumped with the name of the position I so dearly missed. "Libero?" I asked. "Yeah, it's like the-" "Defensive specialist on a volleyball team." I said, in unison with the boy, who I just noticed had a blond patch of hair in the front. "How'd I miss that?" "I was the libero on my team last year." His eyes practically lit up. He stared into my eyes, and I stared into his, trying not to burst into laughter. "Did we just become best friends?" He asked. And the laugh barrier broke. I put my head down on my desk, shoulders shaking, as I tried to keep my volume down, nodding when I finally got control of myself. "Yes. But I feel like best friends should know each other's names." I stuck my fist out. "I'm Sorami Sawamura." I introduced, smiling as the boy bumped his fist against my outstretched one. "Yu Nishinoya." He replied. "Something tells me I'm not going to get much quiet anymore..." I thought, as the bell rang.

I made the cheer squad!!! I have a lil more to say but that's the important bit- updates under the cut like always ✨
Cheer tryouts were waaay different than i expected!! I kind of thought it'd be a big ordeal but it was just me and one other freshman who tried out, so we were obvs accepted lol Not that we wouldn't have made it in anyways since we both looked fucking great!! Especially considering I haven't even done any of those moves since last fall. The squad is pretty small and i don't think they do competitive stuff but that's fine, we never did in high school either. I'm more interested in getting to know the rest of the silkball team we'll be cheering on, if the try-outs were any indication of what's to come 🤭 There's this cute owl-guy I might have my eye on- i think he works at the tavern too!!
Oh yeah, i also got the work-study at the tavern! I figure i'll just quit if i don't like it lol but anyways come say hi if ur on campus- i promise you'll recognize me on sight. I'm pretty easy to spot hehe
Oh oh oh and congrats to Mire for getting on the team too!! and for scoring some points with their crush (they can thank me later~). I wonder if they're gonna be able to play well while being cheered on lmaaooo
Classes have been fine, but tbh i haven't rlly been able to pay attention to them since i've been busy partying, meeting new people, and adjusting to life on campus! It's kinda overwhelming, my contacts have like doubled since i got here. And everything is like...way different, yknow? Obvs I didn't think it'd be the SAME as high school, but the vibes are soooo different is all. idk what to make of it all yet but i know that im LOVING being away from home and enjoying my freedom so far <3 Cathy told me the first month or so would probably be rlly hard but idk what she was talking abt bc no one grounds me for waking them up when i get home at 2 am and not even the raven queen can stop me from eating icecream for dinner now.

In reality, this party was kind of lame, even as Respite typed otherwise to his friends— they'd opted to ditch him for a studying session, so he sure as hell wasn't going to let on that the party was anything but lit. They had a feeling most of them probably wouldn't care, but Willow might feel a touch regretful, so the lie was worth it.
After sending the message to the group chat and briefly checking tinder for any new DMs or matches— maybe he could escape this place and turn the night around— to no avail, they pocketed their phone. How annoying. They rolled their eyes and leaned against the wall, taking a slow sip at the drink they’d been nursing for the past hour. Respite wasn’t really a fan of drinking on the best of nights and all they had to offer here was shitty beer. After a moment of pouting and observing the dimly lit room, they turned and parted the dusty, moth-eaten curtain to look out the window again.
If anyone had noticed the way Respite kept flitting out to the porch or the front window, no one said anything. They did try to keep it discreet, at least, and simply worked it into the way they naturally made the rounds every now and then to talk to different people or get another drink. He liked to move around a lot at parties anyways to make sure that he saw everyone's faces and said hi to them all.
On the opposite side of the spectrum was Mettie, who, shortly after arriving and greeting a few people, had taken an edible or something and parked himself outside on the porch. From there, he seemed to be spending most of his time at the party smoking with other people who needed some fresh air and enrapturing (ensnaring?) them with his long-winded conversation. Respite wasn't sure if this had been his goal when agreeing to come to the party, but it had been the result.
It dawned on Respite slowly that they hadn't really seen Mettie at a party like this before. Well, okay— they'd seen Mettie at one or two big house parties in passing, but they'd never actually spent much time watching him. He’d been the dealer for about 75% of their high school (it was a devastating loss to the community when he’d done his year abroad), so it was hard not to run into him from time to time at parties. But in high school, he was mostly regarded as weird and off-putting. People got what they wanted from him and were generally polite, but it wasn't like he was always invited to stick around. And when he was, it did usually end up like this— he'd put himself in a less populated corner somewhere and make puzzling conversation with those willing to listen.
In their hometown, it had felt like everyone else tolerated it because Mettie was a valuable resource. They knew his penchant for rambling, though, and tried not to engage— Respite himself included.
They couldn't place the feeling as they watched Mettie from the window now, with a handful of people gathered around him, held captive by the way he spoke. These people weren't just being polite, either. They were listening— sometimes even smiling and laughing with him. Sure, they were probably stoned too, but that hardly mattered. It's not like this was the first time it had happened since he’d learned Mettie was also attending Strixhaven. At their cafe shift, during orientation, and at the career fair...things were clearly different here.
A couple of years ago, Respite never would've invited Mettie to a house party with him. It would've been social suicide— he knows; he'd thought about it once early on and didn't even get far enough to invite Mettie before the ridicule started up— and though it had taken a lot to fight against their instinct, they needed to test their theory: Did people here actually like Mettie's company? This party seemed to confirm it for the positive.
In Respite's mind, the jury was still out on whether or not Mettie was cool, but at the very least it seemed like no one was going to corner him in the bathroom and interrogate him about why they saw him talking to the freak who looked like he was one bad day away from shooting up the school (untrue, of course, and tasteless in a way only teenagers could be, but Respite had forced out a laugh at the time).
There was a feeling of relief in that. In knowing that neither of them would be under constant scrutiny from peers and adults alike. Being unknown was freeing in some ways.
But there was a dread in it, too. In losing the structure Respite had spent years delicately building the pieces of their identity around.
A memory from when they were kids came to mind unbidden, of the time Respite had accidentally knocked over one of Mettie's earliest sculptures. It had been unsteady and the base made of air-dry clay toppled easily when Respite bumped the dresser in a fit of energetic excitement, sending it crashing to the ground. The roughly attached bits and bobs came loose and scattered across Mettie's bedroom floor, transitioning from art to disjointed pieces without purpose or clarity in an instant.
For what it was worth, Mettie had taken it in stride even as Respite desperately crawled under his bed with a flashlight to gather everything, apologizing and promising to help him glue it back together. After staying quiet for some time, he'd declared it an act of fate that only added to the piece and gave it new meaning. Respite didn't understand, but they'd been so terrified of being yelled at that they nodded in agreement even as their cheeks were pink from crying. They still attempted to fit some of the pieces back together until Mettie insisted they just put it in an empty shoe box so that he could make something new of it. To this day, Respite had no idea if Mettie had ever fixed it, restructured it, or simply left it as a memorial in his closet.
They wrinkled their nose up at the unwarranted assault of a flashback. Clearly they'd been hanging around Mettie too much already if their thoughts were starting to get this metaphorical. He downed the last of his warm beer, hoping the bile on his tongue would force him to refocus on the party.
