Earlier today, Chaos Dad, David Jenkins posted the following picture of Rhys that Rhys shared on his Instagram with a song attached to it called "I'm a Man" by Jobriath.

Now, all well and good right? Rallying cry to all the crew! BUT Twitter folks think there's a deeper meaning and I'm inclined to agree.

How fucking cool is that? Thank you to @lamentus1 for pointing out also that Chaos Dad's post had the "three finger" I love you which is yet another 3 today.

Add to that, Taika's Instagram's been pretty quiet lately, and he happened to post a picture today of his mother-in-law @veraora on IG for her birthday, which just happens to have... 3 pigeons in it. Once again, thanks @lamentus1 for bringing this to our attention. ---also please wish VeraOra Happy birthday!

You don't have to prove to anyone that you are allowed to enjoy your pirate show that means something to you and spend a few bucks to support it.

Cold reading is a technique—or collection of techniques—used by psychics etc to give a false impression of intimate familiarity with a mark despite having no special knowledge of them, principally by describing them in terms that seem narrowly tailored to them but in fact apply equally well to large swaths of the population. Specific tricks include

giving ambivalent descriptions; “you enjoy socialising, but also sometimes prefer to be by yourself”

common facts of life history not usually put in those terms; “I sense sickness in a father-figure near to you”

conventionally unspoken goomh stuff; “you have a box of unsorted photos in your house”

The techniques prey on a predisposition to credulity, and a willingness to focus on “hits” to the exclusion of misses. And you see these come up again and again when ppl talk about “What it’s like to live as adhd” (boob staring is an adhd thing!!), this time with the trick exit door that if you think these are all banal facts of life, well maybe you are just in denial about your own adhd, another classic adhd moment in its own right. (This is ofc consistent with adhd being real, prevalent, and commonly reasonable to treat with drugs.) I do get the feeling tumblr has kinda collectively come to recognise this, and I see it now more from screenshots of the accursed bird site, so ig that’s a positive development

All of this is at this point pretty well trodden. What I don’t think I’ve seen anyone point out is that, since the primary audience for most of these posts is the poster/rebagler themselves, they’re in this weird situation of self-applying scam artist techniques. It’s not just that you’re getting high on your own supply, the person you were supplying to in the first place was you!

Which is pretty weird! What exactly are you trying to sell yourself? Who benefits here?

Eddie hated the way you talked. The way your lips would curve as a slow smile crept on your features. He hated the way you would let out a breathy ‘Ok’ and look at him with those gorgeous eyes whenever he ordered another thing of fries.

You would suck your bottom lip, pen dangling from behind your ear and click your nails on the counter. The diner wasn’t too crowded during your shifts, and huffing out hot puffs of air past those pretty lips, he could tell how bored you were with how tense your shoulders were and the droopy lids covering your big ol’ eyes. He hated your eyes too, but how could he not when you looked at him the way you did. Lazy smile pulling your features, chin tilted up and eyes cast on his, searching and playful.

You were cheeky. Confident. Brazen.

Yet people flocked towards you. Maybe it was your pretty face, with that award winning smile. That quick wit that would bite at people whenever they were too snarky with their ordering. Whatever it was, it was a compelling contrast from Eddie. He would consider himself those things too, but yours were different. And he hated you for it. Especially how you managed to charm him too.

He found himself hanging around you more often, coming by during your shifts and being eager to see you throughout the day. He would stroll in, swing his legs over the worn out cushion of the bar stool and wait for you to notice his presence. It never took too long, he made sure of it. He’d drum his fingers on the counter, pursing his lips together, mimicking the sound of drums, bobbing his head to the rhythm. His hair would swing in his face as he moved, his eyes never leaving your back. He swore you ignored him on purpose, only turning when he would get louder and the sound of a riff coming from his mouth in a garbled sound of dry throat and shaking lips, desperately seeking a Coke. Some days, like today, he would hum something familiar to him.

There was only one other person in the diner, an older man who sipped slowly on a now cold cup of coffee. Holding a newspaper in one wrinkled hand, shaky and spotted and cup in the other. You placed a small slice of lemon pound cake in front of him, a soft smile on your lips.

“Here you go, George,” Your words were featherlight, a languid sound that filled the open space like pollen. Eddies’ eyes fluttered some at the sound, loving the way your voice caressed his ears. He hummed a little louder, hoping to drown out your words, but they cut through the sound effortlessly. You were such a contrast to him, even in the way you spoke. His walking contradiction. “Imma bring out a pot for you, nice and hot.” Sultry. Drawing out the word nice, as if it was honey falling from a spoon. He could hear the clicking of your kitten heels against the checkered tile. He didn’t need to look up to see the subtle sway of your hips, he’d memorized the movement, it burning in the back of his brain. He saw it when he closed his eyes, imprinted on the back of his eyelids.

He couldn’t stand you.

He hummed the riff even louder. No more heels, no more words, just Metallica. He loved the intro, it was long, sick and dirty. There was a thickness to it that pulled at his chest, making him feel like he would melt all while his heart pounded to the rhythm, imploring him to kick ass. His fingers itched to pluck at his guitar strings, but incessantly tapping would have to do. He had a more important mission at the moment. He looked at the door you disappeared behind, mouth still moving along with the rest of his body, waiting for you to turn his way and give him that pearly, charming smile. He was eager what you listened to; what girly pop Icelandic music you played when your head felt too crowded. What would make you stare up at your ceiling, thinking of everything you ever said, did, wanted.

So when you walked out, lyrics pouring past your lips and head bopping, he froze.

You were singing along with him.

You were singing Metallica.

His heart thrummed painfully in his chest, and he was amazed you couldn’t hear it alongside the a cappella magic happening right now. But his mouth kept moving, fingers kept drumming. Eyes kept watching. And you kept singing.

You weren’t good, by all means. Your voice cracked multiple times and you hummed some of the lyrics you’d forgotten, but you sang. Even as you placed the new pot on the table, you sang. Your body turned to him, finally meeting his eyes, and you sang.

“Blackened roar, massive roar fills the crumbling sky—“ Your smile was large, eyes crinkling and the balls of your cheeks shining under the light, plump and perfect. Eddie couldn’t help but smile back, sound dying from his lips and fingers finally stilling. They now ached to touch you, but you were no where near him. “That’s a damn fine song.” Click. Click Click. You leaned on the counter, this time on his side, head resting on your propped up hand and eyes glittering in that playful way that made Eddie swallow until his throat felt a little less dry.

“Well, look who has taste.” And maybe you two weren’t at teasing level yet, but he couldn’t help it. Not with the snarky waitress that bit back so quickly with a fire that whipped into Eddie’s belly, filling him with heat.

“I know, I was surprised when I heard you singing it,” Then your smile morphed into something wicked. All teeth and chin tilting up some, even if you were looking up at him. Your eyes were challenging, squinted and mischievous. His foot bounced on the silver rim of the seat. “I thought the look was all a ploy, metalhead.”

And you purred it, the same way you did when you took his order, following that breathy ‘Ok’ that made his knees weak and head muddled. He looked into those eyes and he smiled so hard he could feel the press of his dimples in his cheeks. His heart hammered against his chest, matching the pace of his foot, but he didn’t give a single shit.

Because you were looking at him with such interest. No, fondness would be more accurate. Your eyes were soft, searching his face— Eddie could see the way they took all of him in. His big doe eyes, the light shadow of hair above his lips and the expanse of his neck. He wanted to hide behind his hair; maybe the heap of frizzy curls could conceal his blush and make him seem a little less hopeless. But you reached forward, fingers brushing a stray cluster off his cheek, preventing him from hiding. Sure, your nail was a little sharp, long and slightly pointed scratching his cheek even the faintest bit, but the contact made him dizzy.

Of course you wouldn’t let him escape.

You had him hooked from the moment you asked his order.

“Deluxe cheese burger, no onion, pickles on the side.”

For the millionth time tonight, he smiled.

“Fries. Extra wiz.” You didn’t need to hear him say it. You knew that order by heart. He knew you knew it. He watched you sit up, the faint sound of your hand peeling from your face filling the air and palms reddened. Your smile never left your face, tender and small.

“Ok.”
