dabi/lov-centric fic recs!

wooo it's fic rec time again!!! most of these r gonna be dabi or toya-centric, but there's like one or two that's aren't. lots of manga spoilers, especially considering how much of them are dabi-centric. you can find bnha recs in general here. once again, recs under the cut. onwards!

the one where Touya takes their siblings with them when they ditch their dad - timefire25

summary:

Touya was more offended by that impression than anything.

"I don't sound like that. Right, Shouto?"

But Shouto was no longer next to them.

"Sit down somewhere. If you pass out from the pain I don't want you to get a concussion. You've got enough brain damage already."

Touya opened their mouth to retort something, but remembered all the times they've taken a hit to the head - be it from Endeavor, some asshole villain (who was not Endeavor), the goddamn cupboard or a book Natsuo had thrown at them once - and closed it again. He probably had a point there. They sat down on the ground and Natsuo went to get the medical supplies.

Or, Touya is toeing the line between vigilante and villain, Fuyumi tries to keep her family safe and discovers her secret passion for hacking, Natsuo is surprisingly good at patching people up for a ten-year-old, Shouto just wants his soba, and Aizawa + Yamada accidentally adopts all of them

personal opinion/extra:

lovely fic! v entertaining, with found family, hurt/comfort, angst, and fluff, all in one. there's also a cat. who doesn't like cats?

yes, a de-aged dabi fic. personally i find them delightful, so long as they're well-done. definitely suggest reading the tags on this one before diving in.

summary of the first fic:

"It’s not often Endeavor mentions his children, but when he does, he often mentions that he had three children, me being his biggest pride.”

Shouto’s face on the screen seemed neutrally blank, but Dabi could tell that he wasn’t at all ok. The little twitches in his eyes was all he needed as a hint.

Taking a deep breath, Shouto continues. “What hasn’t been said is that he used to have one more child… my eldest brother, Touya Todoroki.”

It started when Shouto reached 100k followers on his conspiracy theory channel. He exposes the Hero Public Safety Commission, Endeavor, and makes one phone call, which made him break down into tears. Happy tears of course!

personal opinion/extra:

i feel like it starts off a bit more on the crack/light-hearted side, but towards the end it heads into the more serious part of the fic. definitely an entertaining read! i'm looking forward to the future additions to the series. while the dabihawks is part of the fic, it's brought up in one of shoto's conspiracy videos, but it is actually a thing.

yes. it's an 'eri gets adopted by the league of villains' series. it's delightful and i highly suggest reading it.

short but sweet. absolutely delightful fic with izuku celebrating christmas w/ the league. entirely fluff and crack, highly suggest it if you're looking for something nice with found family.

“So, just checking, you know I’m not actually Endeavor. I just played him on tv one time,” Touya says flatly as he fidgets with the ropes binding his wrists. “Shut up!” Kidnapper 1 says, “We know that!” He follows this up by muttering “We know that now,” to himself, which does not inspire confidence.

Todoroki Touya did not intend to become famous. Or an actor. Or a famous actor. But sometimes the stars align just right for you to give a huge metaphorical middle finger to your evil dad in a very public way while laughing your ass off and rolling around in a literal pile of money because you took your first paycheck to the bank and had them give it back to you in the smallest notes possible just to make your childish roll-around-in-a-pile-of-spite-money dreams come true.

personal opinion/extra:

au where toya becomes an actor, kind of on accident. and then he gets kidnapped. definitely give this fic a read, it's hilarious.

this one. this one hurt. hurt with little to no comfort. basically, dabi knows how to play the piano, but there's a lot of bad memories attached to it. and they end up getting dragged to the surface when he's with the league. definitely read the tags before reading.

Fuyumi, bless her, tries to help, and she does take some of the weight off his shoulders, but Touya bears most of the burden and responsibility. He knows the nannies and babysitters aren’t going to report anything to the police, despite how obvious everything was.

Rei Todoroki dies giving birth to Shoto. This changes everything.

ow. plenty of hurt, with lots of comfort to balance it out. definitely suggest reading this fic if you like the todofam and aus where dabi isn't attempting to murder his family. obviously, read the tags. this is the todoroki family we're dealing with, after all.

another series. not all the works are dabi-centric, but i still highly suggest this. it's well written and enjoyable, and the ocs are inserted well imo.

WOO FOUND FAMILY gotta love it. can you tell it's by far one of my favorite tropes? probably. definitely suggest this series! it's super entertaining and just. mmmm. dabi redemption is nice, as well. not exactly a solid ending, but i don't believe that's entirely possible, nor is it necessary. i appreciate the openness on the ending in this series. ends on a hopeful note and it's left open-ended.

if i'm being entirely honest, it's been a while since i've read this fic and my memory is awful. i don't remember all that much but i definitely know i enjoyed it. basically shoto wants to kill endeavor, ends up finding the league, is 'kidnapped' but is it really kidnapping if the victim doesn't care?? (/j) and. yeah things happen. at least that's what i remember

He should probably leave the door alone, get a Pro to inspect it just in case something bad was behind it, but Izuku still stepped forward. Maybe he was curious, maybe he felt untouchable after beating All For One out of Shigaraki (figuratively, there had also been a lot of talking and shouting and weird things happening in the mind space of their Quirks) or maybe his brain just wasn't fast enough to catch up with his body this once.

Whatever it was, a moment later he'd already opened the door, staring into a… completely normal bedroom?

The room was dark, ceiling light turned off, so it took a moment for Izuku to notice the figure on the bed. They stared at him like a deer in the headlights and he stared back, just as shocked. Their long, white hair partially covered their face, but Izuku could still make out red eyes peeking out underneath, looking awfully similar to…

“...Yoichi?”

Or, after beating AFO, Izuku finds Yoichi locked away in a vault. The only problem? There's also a Yoichi inside his Quirk

OHOHOHOHOHOHOHOHOHOHOHO Y HFHDHEHHFASDGHHDGHDS YES SOMEBODY WANTS TO KNOW ABOUT MY FAIRYTALE RETELLINGS

Okay so first of all I have SO Many Fairytale Retellings it’s not even funny

I lowkey read all the Grimm’s Fairytales. Legit. Tracked ALL of them down from Wikipedia. And whenever one slapped I was like “what if I snatched it?”

But the thing is some of them had similar energy and so I decided to have them take place in the same universe??? And Little Red Riding Hood is the first installment of one of these overarching multi-tale plots.

OKAY THE ACTUAL SUMMARY STARTS HERE I TALK TOO MUCH SORRY

The Point of View actually centers around the Huntsman and the Wolf.

“Huntsman” in this version of the story is a hereditary position as, like, a Magical Forest Ranger basically. Protecting humans from the evil beasties in the woods. And Evil Beastie number one is this HUMONGOUS talking wolf. A magical, Rhino-Sized, talking wolf who can like. Turn into a rush of wind. Whatever, it’s magic.

But the thing is that the Huntsman is so separated from human society that the only person he actually knows is this giant magic wolf. And as a result their relationship at this point is more “Corporate Rival” than “Sworn Foe”

Right but ONE DAY this little girl wanders into the woods cloaked in red with a basket. And the Wolf is like “Ooo nummy nummy” because you know he’s like. Still a wolf who eats people. But he realizes he can’t attack her. But since he’s magic he recognizes the kind of spell that’s on her. It’s a protective ward that will dissolve once she reaches her destination.

And he’s like “wow never seen THAT one before haha I love it when people try to pull this shit” and he’s like “yes hello little one where are you going?”

And she’s like “I’m going to Grandmother’s House, I was told to just follow this path and I would make it”

And he’s like “Ah, cool cool, well why don’t you stop and pick some of these flowers for Granny?”

And she’s like “Oki 😊”

His plan is to wait by Grandmother’s house for the charm to wear off and eat everyone there.

So he starts down the path but the thing is he gets to thinking. And he’s like “Okay so this child is WAY too trusting and sweet, has a protective charm on her but is also in the woods by herself, and is wearing a weird cloak?”

But he’s like “Eh whatever good eating is good eating” and he arrives at Grandmother’s house to wait.

But IMMEDIATELY he feels that something’s off. Something’s really, REALLY wrong. And he looks in the window, and Grandma is a witch. Not the fun kind either. An ancient, twisted creature slowly splitting the seams of the human thing that once housed it. The Child-Eating kind.

Turns out that Red is from a really freaky village. The Wolf and the Huntsman both knew that there was some weird shit going on there, but it’s only now that the Wolf puts together what it is: a cult, worshipping this ancient, evil witch that they call the Grandmother.

The Grandmother IS sick. Red IS bringing her food. But Grandma isn’t planning on eating the stuff in the basket.

She’s a child sacrifice in case it wasn’t clear enough. Little Red is a child sacrifice. The red cloak is ceremonial garb for a child sacrifice.

So the Wolf puts the pieces together and starts to pace and panic and basically tries to “accidentally” get the Huntsman’s attention with like suspicious magic and shit, but it doesn’t work

And here comes Red down the path, with a bunch of wildflowers in her hand for the ailing grandmother she’s never met, looking so excited and pleased with herself

And the Wolf is like “shitshitshit where IS THE HUNTSMAN this is OUT OF MY LEAGUE this isn’t even REMOTELY PART OF WHAT I DO”

And Red goes in and the Wolf is like OH FUCK OH NO and the Grandmother is pulling the whole “all the better” routine, and she reveals herself

And Red screams

And the Wolf freaks out and says “FUCK IT” and busts through the window and knocks her down and grabs Red and BOLTS

So then there’s a slightly comedic chase scene? they run past the Huntsman and he’s like “Hey what’s going-ARE YOU EATING THAT KID I SWEAR TO GO-” and the Wolf is like “WITCHWITCHWITCH”

And Wolf and Red keep going, but Huntsman stays to fight the Witch.

Wolf puts some distance between them, but realizes that the Huntsman is probably in deep shit and puts Red down and turns back

And then there’s an epic fight scene and the Huntsman and the Wolf kill the Grandma.

So now we got two injured bois who now have to deal with the reality of this tiny child

They figure it’s worth a shot to bring her back to the town and be like “hey the witch is dead you don’t have to kill this kid anymore!” but that’s decidedly not how they react.

So the Wolf and the Huntsman are like “Oh shit now what do we do?”

And that’s how the Huntsman and the Big Bad Wolf became an enemies-to-friends-to-queerplatonic partnership dedicated to raising a former child sacrifice.
