Upper-Intermediate / Lesson 28: -든지
안녕하세요! Welcome to this upper-intermediate lesson about a structure that’s quite common in Korean. Let’s start!
What is -든지?
-든지 is used for saying things like “whether you [do something] or not” or “whether it’s [one thing] instead of [another]” or “whether you do [one action] or [another].” It’s used to express that regardless of the choice you make, the outcome will be the same. Let’s look at some formulas:
[verb / adjective stem 1] + 든지 + [verb / adjective stem 2] + 든지 = Whether [verb/adjective 1] or [verb/adjective 2]
[noun 1] + (이)든지 + [noun 2] + (이)든지 = Whether [noun 1] or [noun 2]
[verb stem] + 든지 말든지 = Whether you [verb] or not
Examples
우리는 나가든지 집에 있든지 재미있게 놀 거예요. = Whether we go out or stay home, we’ll have fun.
소설이든지 논픽션이든지 책을 읽는 걸 좋아해요. = I like reading books, whether they’re fiction or non-fiction.
꽃이든지 보석류든지 남자친구가 주면 선물이 마음에 들 거예요. = Whether it’s flowers or jewelry, if her boyfriends gives it to her, she’ll like the gift.
싸든지 비싸든지 살 거예요. = Whether it’s cheap or expensive, I’m going to buy it.
[from Naver Dictionary] 하든지 말든지 맘대로 하세요. = Do whatever you want.
Literally “whether you do it or not, do whatever you want.” You might hear just 하든지 말든지 to basically mean “I don’t care whether you do it or not” or “do whatever you want.” When I hear this in K-dramas, it can sound aggressive/dismissive imo, so maybe be careful when using phrases like this.
That’s about it for this lesson -- I hope it’s helpful! Please feel free to ask any questions or point out any errors if there are any! See you in the next lesson! 다음에 또 봐요!

What are those apps you usually post in your productivity updates?
hi! here's a breakdown of apps i use, as well as websites and other resources i've used/use for my learning (mainly chinese, though some of these resources can be used for other languages as well).
apps i use every day:
dot languages: this is a chinese-specific app where you select your hsk level, and then read articles at that level. there's a pop-up dictionary, an option to show pinyin, post-article vocab practice (audio, matching, translation, and writing), and the option to have your articles either in simplified or traditional.
TOFU learn: a blend between flashcards and writing, you can find decks for various things, including hsk level-specific decks, and you learn new vocab with the stroke order and then write each new term three times—once with an overlay (so the term is visible), and then two times from memory. there's also a review function, which helps you practice terms you've already learnt, and each term has audio that goes with it. i use it for chinese, but there's decks for esperanto, french, german, italian, japanese, korean, norweigian, portuguese, russian, spanish, swedish, and turkish.
the pleco dictionary app: my favourite chinese dictionary app; allows you to translate from english to chinese or chinese to english, has options for writing, radical, vocal, and keyboard entry, and has both traditional and simplified characters.
ankiapp: this one's not particularly complicated; it's a flashcard app, where you can make your own decks or download decks other people have made. it uses a spaced repetition system to help you remember terms—you rate yourself from worst to best on how well you remembered the term, and that determines how many times it'll pop up afterwards. it also gives you an overall grade for each deck, which is a nice way to measure your progress.
duolingo: probably my least favourite of all of the apps i use; the chinese course isn't the best, and now that they've removed the notes/grammar information option, there's no way for people who aren't already fairly familiar with the language and its inner workings to learn them if they exclusively use duolingo. it's okay for maintenance practice, though, but i'm already almost finished with the entire course and i would say it barely reaches to lower hsk 4, so i wouldn't say it's a good tool if you're more advanced.
apps i have but use less often:
readibu: this is sort of like dot in that it's an app for reading in chinese with a pop-up dictionary. however, that's where the similarities end; readibu has novels, short stories, and articles aimed at children, and each of those are further split into genres. readibu also lets you add your own web-pages and read them on the app, so you can use its pop-up dictionary with them. it's aimed more to intermediate and upper intermediate learners, with hsk levels ranging from hsk 4 to hsk 6. the only reason i rate dot above readibu is because dot has a larger range of levels (hsk 1 through hsk 6 i believe? but it may go higher) and exercises built in to help you learn the vocab.
the chairman's bao: also a chinese reading app, though if you use the free version, you only get one sample article per hsk level (hsk 1 - hsk 6). i believe that every so often you get a new sample article for each level, but i'm not sure what the interval on that is. it also has a pop-up dictionary and a flashcard option for saved vocab.
du chinese: another chinese reading app; it has articles divided into newbie through master (six levels in total, though they don't line up perfectly with the hsk in my experience), and new articles are free for a certain period of time before becoming locked behind a paywall. there's a pop-up dictionary and a vocab review/test option for vocab you save.
memrise: flashcards with audio, depending on whether you're using an official course or a user-generated deck. decent, but it can get repetitive.
hellotalk: not exclusively chinese, but i believe it started off mainly aimed that way. you set your language, and then your target language, and then you can talk to native speakers who have your language as their target language. potentially incredibly useful, but if you're like me and extremely introverted you may have a hard time using this app, since it requires a lot of one-on-one interaction.
slowly: i haven't actually gotten around to using this, but it's sort of like a digital penpal app, as i understand it. you can learn more about it here.
websites and other miscellanea:
this massive mega drive by @salvadorbonaparte (languages, linguistics, translation studies, and more).
this masterpost by @loveletter2you (linguistics, languages, and language learning books/textbooks).
this masterpost on chinese minority literature by @zaobitouguang
the integrated chinese textbooks by cheng and tsui, which are the textbooks i use for self-study—there's textbooks and workbooks, as well as character workbooks (though these can easily be cut out without suffering from the loss).
mandarinbean: graded readers, hsk 1 - hsk 6, with a pop-up dictionary and the option to read in traditional or simplified
chinese reading practice: reading, beginner through advanced (three levels), with a pop-up dictionary and some additional notes included on vocab and language-specific things non-native speakers might struggle with or not know.
hsk reading: graded readers, hsk 1 - hsk 6, divided into three sections (beginner, intermediate, advanced). does not have a pop-up dictionary, but does have an option to translate the text, post-reading quizzes, and notes on important vocab with example sentences.
my chinese reading: reading from beginner to advanced (four levels); has a pop-up dictionary, the option to play an audio recording of the passage you're reading, notes on key words, things that are difficult to translate, grammar, and post-reading comprehension questions.
the heavenly path notion website, which i would say is one of the best resources i've ever found, with a massive number of guides, lists of chinese media in a variety of forms, and general resources.
chinese character stroke order dictionary: what it says on the tin; will show you the stroke order for a given character.
hanzigrids: allows you to generate your own character worksheets. i use this very frequently, and can recommend it. the only downside is if you want to create multiple pages at once, you have to pay; however this can easily be circumnavigated by creating only one sheet at a time. you can download the sheet as a pdf and print it out for personal use.
21st century chinese poety: a resource i only came across recently; has a massive collection of contemporary chinese poetry, including translations; much more approachable than classical poetry, which can often be incredibly dense and hard to parse due to the writing style.
zhongwen pop-up dictionary: if you're reading something in chinese on a website that doesn't have a pop-up dictionary, this is a must. i've never encountered any words that it doesn't have a translation for so far, including colloquialisms/slang. i use it to read webnovels, and it's been a fantastic tool. you can also save vocab by hitting the r key when you're hovering over a word/phrase, making it easy to go back and add terms to your flashcard deck(s).
chinese reading world: a website put together by the university of iowa; split into three levels (beginner, intermediate, and advanced), with thirty units per level, and ten modules per unit, as well as multiple proficiency tests per level. each module is split into three parts: a pre-reading vocab quiz, the reading with a number of comprehension questions based on it, and a post-vocab reading quiz. it also rates you in relation to someone with a native proficiency based on how quickly you read and answer the comprehension questions, and how many vocab questions you get right.
jiaoyu baike: an extensive chinese-to-chinese dictionary, put out by the taiwanese ministry of education. you can find an extensive write-up on it here, by @linghxr.
social media etc: see this post by @rongzhi.
qianpian: another chinese-to-chinese dictionary; @ruhua-langblr has a write-up on it here.
this writeup on zero to hero by @meichenxi; initially aimed at chinese learning, but now has expanded greatly.
music rec's: this masterpost by @linghxr.
tv/film: youtube is a great place to find chinese tv shows and films, and they often have english subtitles. if you can't find something on there, though, you can probably find it either on iqiyi or asianvote, which have both chinese and other asian shows and films (though you'll want an adblock if you're going to use the latter). i use these a lot to watch things, and have discovered a lot of media through these, and then novels through those when i went searching to see what they were adapted from.
polylogger: a website for logging the amount of time/type of language study you do. has a wide variety of languages, and the option to follow other people. still, it's a fairly basic site.

getting over my "intermediate slump" in 3 languages 🇰🇷🇨🇳🇯🇵
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
i've barely reached intermediate level in two of my target languages, yet i'm already slumping so hard 🙈 and the worst part is, because Japanese is so similar to Korean and Chinese, i'm getting bored when i'm barely even N5 yet 😅 so starting today, i want to take inspiration from this article to get over my slump and find that excitement and joy in learning again!
✍️ target language output practice yay
🇰🇷 most days i'm keeping my diary in Korean lately! i can even write bad(?) poetry in Korean (no, i will not elaborate 🙈)
🇯🇵 Kanji + Hiragana writing practice for the days of the week + keyboarding practice writing a short journal entry!
🎧 target language input binge let's gooo
🇰🇷 reminding myself why i can't watch Hello, Counselor 😡 i just get so mad at these entitled, rude, small-minded men (적어도 승관씨는 이해... 아이돌입니다 또는 아니야, 그는도 화나했어요 at least Seungkwan understands... idol or not, he's angry too 🥺)
🇰🇷 귀여운 귤은 인터뷰를 있어요 (cute tangerine does an interview), 난 봤어 그럼요 (i watched it of course)
🇯🇵 優しな母と優し家族 (kind mom and kind family) vlogs 1, 2
🇰🇷 Seventeen Artist-Made Season 2 (the upper-middle child line, lol)
🎯 target language drills
🇯🇵 3 lessons + unit exam
🇨🇳 4 lessons
💌: besides low-key neglecting to do more meaningful study in Chinese, i think i did pretty well! there's only so much time in one day after all. the important thing is i feel motivated to continue tomorrow ☺️

introducing myself
hello everyone! i came from langtwt so i’m new on langblr!! i guess i’ll also introduce myself on here 🐸 i’ve noticed posts are way longer here so i’ll sum everything up in the first paragraph but elaborate a little bit after that ☀️
— my name’s eva (she/her), i’m 22
— i’m from spain
— uni student
— i speak spanish, english and catalan 🇪🇸🇬🇧
— i’m learning french, mandarin, thai, korean and italian 🇫🇷🇨🇳🇹🇭🇰🇷🇮🇹
about me
as i said, my name’s eva and i’m a 22-year-old college student from spain :) i’m majoring in translation and interpreting so i study languages both as my degree/career and my hobby! i’ve started and stopped learning a lot of languages just for fun but i’m gonna stick with these five for a while!! that doesn’t mean i won’t put on pause/retake some of these languages depending on my situation, it just means i won’t take up new languages in the near future 🫡
languages
note before starting: both my life and my career goals have been changing drastically lately, which means my language journey is about to change a lot too. however as i have yet to figure it out, i’m just gonna talk about how i’ve been studying languages for the last few months and update when i finally figure out my new language plan :)
having said that:
🌳 spanish— native language
🌳 english— advanced
🌳 catalan (valencià to be specific)— i used to be advanced but i stopped using it and now it’s pretty rusty 😭
now, on to the languages i’m learning
🌿 french— probably intermediate/rusty upper intermediate
🌿 chinese (mandarin)— my golden child. probably around hsk3/4 (i’d say upper beginner though) but i can’t tell exactly. working on that
🌱 thai— beginner
🌱 korean— very beginner
🌱 italian— beginner
there’s a lot of languages i’d love to learn in the future (japanese, tagalog, swahili, vietnamese among others) but i’ve decided to focus and play around with these five languages until i reach my goals in all of them before starting any others
other socials
— twitter
— instagram
i love chatting!! i’m always happy to meet new people but it does take me a while to see messages sometimes! corrections are welcome, my dms are open, if you need help with spanish let me know! and i think that’s all 🫂🤍

4 Easy Korean Grammar
자마자, 아/어야 되다, 네요, 뿐만 아니라
There are 2 intermediate and 2 beginner grammar, although I think they are almost all around the upper beginner/low Intermediate range. Depending on your level, these will be very easy to learn compared to some other (more complicated) Korean grammar.
~ 자마자 (beginner)
~ 아/어야 되다 (intermediate)
~ 네요 (beginner)
~ (으)ㄹ뿐만 아니라 (intermediate)
V-자마자 = as soon as, right away
Usage: to Indicate that something occurs immediately after the end of some other event or action. It’s added to verbs and translated as “right after” or “as soon as” in English. -자마자 can also be shortened to just -자.
Base form → -자마자 = Ex: 보다 → 보자마자 - as soon as I see, as soon as I look, as soon as I watch
Examples:
수업이 끝나자마자 학생들은 교실을 나갔어요.
The students left the classroom right after class ended.
상자를 열자 오래된 책들과 문서가 보였습니다.
When I opened the box, I saw old books and documents.
가게에서 보자마자 마음에 들어서 바로 산 거야.
I bought it right away because I liked it as soon as I saw it at the store.
Rules To Know:
The tense in not expressed with the first verb before 자마자, but is added in the second verb.
Example:
집에 갔자마자 쉬었어요 (X) → 집에 가자마자 쉬었어요 (O)
The subjects in the first and/or second clause can either be the same or different and it’s still fine
A/V -아/어야 되다 = have to, should
Usage: To express an obligation or necessity to do something. The form can end with 아/어야 하다 or 아/어야 되다 with no change in meaning, although of -아/어야 되다 is more commonly used than -아/어야 하다.
Forms:
Verbs ending in vowel ㅏ or ㅗ + 아야 되다/하다:
가다 → 가야 되다/하다 = have to go
Verbs ending in vowel other thanㅏ or ㅗ + 어야 되다/하다:
읽다 → 읽어야 되다/하다 = have to read
하다 verbs → 해야 되다/하다:
공부하다 → 공부해야 되다/하다 = have to study
Examples:
시간이 늦어서 이만 집에 가야 해.
It's late, so I have to go home now.
그는 여자 친구에게 줄 꽃은 꼭 빨간 장미이어야 된다고 했어.
He said the flowers for his girlfriend must be red roses.
비 오는 날 운전할 때는 평소보다 더 조심하여야 돼요.
You should be more careful than usual when driving on a rainy day.
A/V/N - (이)네요 = really, certainly, wow
Usage: to express surprise when you learn something from an experience (not from another source) or agree with someone (experiencing the same thing)
Tense:
A/V -네요
N -(이)네요
학생 -> 학생이네요
의사 -> 의사(이)네요
Examples:
오늘은 날씨가 정말 좋네요.
Wow, the weather is really nice today.
백화점에 사람이 정말 많네요.
There are so many people at the store today.
가: 한국 음식을 잘 드시네요. = You eat Korean foods really well.
나: 네, 한국 음식이 아주 맛있어요. = Yes, Korea food is so delicious.
(으)ㄹ 뿐만 아니라 = not only A but also B
Usage: to express that “not only what you said in the first sentence, but also what you said in the first sentence”. This can be without the -만 part added in too.
Tenses:
A/V (past) - 았/었을 뿐만 아니라
A/V (present) - 을/ㄹ 뿐만 아니라
N이다 - w/ consonants - 일 뿐만 아니라
N - w/ vowels - 뿐만 아니라
Examples:
지수는 예쁠 뿐만 아니라 성격도 좋아서 인기가 많네.
Not only is Jisoo pretty, but her personality is also really good, so she’s very popular.
승규는 약속 시간에 나타나지 않았을 뿐만 아니라 이후에도 연락이 없었어요.
Seungyu not only didn’t show up to our date on time, but also didn’t even contact me after.

Langblr reactivation challenge, week 1, day 1
I go by Djedo, she/her, in my twenties
I've been on and off (mostly off) on the labgblr communiry for ages, but I've been wanting to work on some of my languages since I've kinda let them go a bit cause of the pandemic and some other personal stuff, so this challenge is like a boost to actually go and do it
My main languages of focus are Italian and Japanese — I'm [upper] intermediate at both, but need to work on improving my vocab, and I'll have to use both a lot in the nearby future
Other languages I dabbled in or speak at a much more beginner level: Norwegian, Mandarin, Korean — I want to get back to these three as well, but for now I don't wanna overwhelm myself since I have other non-language-related projects going on too
My native language is Croatian
I can't promise I'll be able to complete this challenge, since regularly and persisting are issues for me, but I'm hoping that being public about this challenge will give me the drive to follow through to the end!
I love meeting new people and talking to them, so I'm hoping this is also a good chance to meet other langblrs! (Even though I'm not that active online)

trigger warnings for: parental death, terminal illness, racism/prejudice
Growing up, Mirae developed a certain fondness for symmetry. Her mother, blessed with the palindromic name of Ava, was her first introduction to the concept — a woman whose beauty was as revered as her charm, and her financial status as admired as her charitable efforts. She was an actress, eliciting equal tears and smiles, the kind of young starlet who was nowhere until suddenly, she was everywhere. The most remarkable thing to the young Mirae, however, was that no matter how much fame her mother acquired, no matter which trip they went on to accommodate her work schedule — their relationship remained in perfect balance, both growing like flowers towards the same shared sun.
If Mirae had to pinpoint when that sun began to darken, she would do so with ease. A man came into Ava’s life, and with him, step-siblings ( WC ) who had no interest in forming family. From then on, Mirae grew up between London and a sprawling estate in the countryside. Her step-father believed in strong moral values, which meant living in a multi-million dollar manor in a small town populated by off-branches of nobility for greater spans of time than in the multi-million dollar townhouse in the heart of the city. In truth, strong moral values meant traditional English values, which in turn meant classism and nationalism intersecting with a hefty dose of prejudice. It meant — more precisely and most specifically, that when her mother fought her last fight ( not of ancient wars or aliens, but instead against a terminal illness which took her too quickly from this world and on to the next ), Mirae found herself relegated to the background of her fractured excuse for a family, acting as nanny to her younger step-sibling and lady’s maid to her older one. It meant endless grumblings against modernity and the influx of foreigners, supporting the crown no matter what scandal they became embroiled in, and teaching your step-daughter to sit straight and act pretty. That they move to Paris when Mirae is twelve changes none of these things...
...but it did further the love of fashion she had since childhood, pasting together images in a scrapbook of ensembles for her mother to wear. She studied the city streets more frequently than she did her classes, watched Project Runway religiously, falling asleep to Tim Gunn’s catchphrase of ‘make it work’ every night and waking up to a copy of Vogue magazine each morning. In public, she was allowed — and certainly expected — to be smart, talented, and charming. Even despite her stepfather’s glaring distaste for a stepchild he never had any intention of raising without her mother, he instilled a work ethic into the young girl — albeit, only in certain specified areas. The idea of work itself ( and what careers would be acceptable in his upper-crust eyes ) were never directly mentioned. Fashion, when it’s brought up, was quickly discarded as a thing for girls of lesser means.
At eighteen, she’s given the opportunity to prove herself and designed her older step-sister’s cotillion gown, a couture gown beautifully crossed between Westwood and Mugler. It was the crowning achievement of her youth, the very garment she hoped to get her into fashion school — financial help from her stepfather be damned. At the end of the evening, however, it returned to her in tatters, ripped and stained and presented not in the custom garment bag she’d created for it, but in a trash bag. The thought for escape was already brewing, but it only hurts more to hear the people who should be family say: Get out. Leave.
Mirae returned to London not long after, but found herself barred from the homes she once grew up in. The bank account she was meant to have access to upon turning eighteen is similarly kept out of reach without explanation. By luck, grace, or pity, she’s taken in by an old friend of her mother’s ( WC ) and gets the chance to acclimate herself to a life without much support. She takes a job as a costumer’s assistant, heedlessly willing to take any kind of job which could further her design portfolio and help her pay for rent. The idea to turn to social media hits her during a cast party, with numerous photographers swarming the cast and crew as they wore clothes she’d helped design and customize.
Her instagram quickly became a museum of well-lit shots of her designs and selfies of her striking features, and amassed a remarkable following in hardly any time at all. It would be all too easy to simply post never-before-seen photos of her late mother and gain reputation through those means, but Mirae had no interest in invoking the name of a woman long-gone as a way of building clout — nor did she want to reveal any connection to her stepfather and his family. Six years into the social media game, Mirae accumulated 900k followers, bolstered of course by the likes of Baldwins and Hadids sporting her limited-availability designs and sponsors paying for front-row access to fashion weeks all around the world.
Curating a life online is a full-time career, complicated by the fact that access given to the masses is precisely what fuels her financial status. At the end of January, following a party to celebrate hitting her first 1mil on Instagram, Mirae was the victim of a robbery. No stranger to weaving diamonds out of absolute dust, she’s done her best to spin it into something positive for social media, and has since seen a giant boost to her stats in the past few weeks. But, the fear is still there, and forever a girl seeking balance in an entirely imbalanced world, she’s now thirsting for revenge.
HEADCANONS.
Her step-father attempted to have her rebrand herself as ‘Mireille’ and take his surname so she might ‘better fit in’ with Parisian high-society, but she abhorred at the idea of shedding the one eternal thing her mother had given her, and has never once looked back.
Mirae is consistently obsessive about improving herself. She reads Proust and Camus and Joyce repeatedly in the hopes of expanding her mental horizons, attempts a sudoku puzzle before bed every night, and attends ballet barre classes every week.
This obsession, if you will, leads to her having a breakdown just as habitual as the components of its lead-up. It’s not an uncommon sight for her to cry while going through her early morning routines, or for Mirae to wonder if she’s any good or if it’s time for her to rethink her life. This, of course, is the side of her that social media is simply not allowed to see.
The happiest, busiest, and arguably toughest years of her life were at Central Saint Martins, when any money she earned went directly to her education and the furthering of her career. She lived in a cheap flat with three roommates, then quite enthralled with the ability to come home to others who were eager to see her — who enjoyed her presence and supported her dreams. Free of the stifling eye of heer step-father and not yet introduced to the suffocating hand of social media fame, this was perhaps the last time Mirae was purely herself.
WANTED CONNECTIONS.
this list got ... long, but if none of these vibe with you and you’d still like to write against Mirae, just let me know and we’ll come up with something <333
the robber(s): obviously, we can plot out how much your chara stole from her and why — I just wanna play around with this so bad! i absolutely adore the dichotomy of mirae starting her adult life very much in a place where she could’ve stolen in order to get by, only to grow into someone who then gets targeted by those who mayhaps also need to steal in order to get by, etc. Also super duper down to play around with it being a gang hit, or even someone in her inner circle who was just getting close to play her! Basically, give me anything and everything for this pretty please <33
clients: what it says on the tin! These people solicit her to design something for them, or style them for an event, that sort of thing. Whether they’re doing to gain clout via Mirae’s celebrity-adjacent status, or they actually believe and see her talent, we can def play around with whatever their relationship is!
step-family: these are littered throughout her slapdash bio, but it really would be so cool to see how Mirae and her step-siblings interact now that they’re all adults and ( arguably / hopefully ) not under the control of the step-father. I imagine there’d for sure be unresolved hurt on Mirae’s end, but I’m all for exploring sibling dynamics of all kinds, so yeah!
stalker: i just think ... this sounds chaotic and messy and i’m here for it! the trope of ‘stalker’ is defo a lot to put on another character, so i’m definitely here for mirae seeing them as a stalker but there being far more to the story that she simply can’t see just yet.
uni connects: Mirae fell short of finishing out her degree, but I’d like to think that she’s retained some of her friendships since then. It’d be esp fun to play around with uni friends who fast-tracked to major design houses upon graduation, or perhaps old advisors who are disappointed in the trajectory of Mirae’s life.
romances, et al: i think mirae is the type of girl who falls in love v easily, but finds it hard to commit. i do envision some of her romances to be for show / social media, while some are mayhaps born from a shared artistic passion that often spills over into something borderline toxic. I’m down to play around with different shades of romantic connects, for sure!
Not 100% sold on the idea just yet, but I'm toying around with the idea of pre-Instafamous Mirae probably did a bit of the old Seeking Arrangements thing, particularly when she was pursuing a degree in fashion and needed to pay for school. This would definitely need to be plotted out way more thoroughly, but defo write me if you’re interested and we can sort work it out!
fashion friends: you know those indie sleazecore groups of friends that dominated fashion and tumblr photography and such circa 2013? very that!
more specifically — that core group of friends ( likely fellow fashionistas, artists, models, photographers, etc ) who stick together at every event, throw last-minute parties where they discuss art and philosophy and do karaoke until the sun comes up, dress each other up in the most ridiculous outfits and go out for fish and chips at 4am.
in particular, i’d adore her having a friend she’s been staying with since the robbery!
security for hire: Mirae is definitely a bit fearful for the robbers to return, or for this to inspire more people to target her, so she’s been screening potential security officers to guard her while she’s home. I don’t think that she’d even necessarily go for someone with the fanciest credentials — just someone who she reasonably feels safe with, or mayhaps even someone who ( even before getting put on her payroll ) protected her from a crazed fan, drunken asshole, etc.
gang connects: Mirae’s unaffiliated, but she’s eager for payback, and if the police can’t figure out the culprits ( which...ofc they can’t! ), she’ll likely get desperate enough to turn to something a bit less...civilized. She’d be a bit hard to get 100% on board right off the bat, but I’d ofc love to explore some of those connections — especially if it means her realizing what she’d need to give in return for the help, etc.
anything and everything ofc!!

One-Page Masterlist
안녕하세요! Hey everyone! I recently got an ask about my old masterlist, which is the same as my broken-down masterlist except it has all of my lessons on one page, rather than on multiple separate posts. Some may find this expanded version easier to navigate, so I’ll keep this up for y’all! My broken-up masterlist, of course, will still be available for those who find that more helpful :)

an estimation of my skill level in each of the languages i'm interested in
english—native (american, currently in england)
spanish—i'd say mid to upper intermediate? + rusty because i haven't used it in two years. i studied spanish in school for six to seven years. i've reached the point where i can talk, write, and think pretty well in spanish (though it takes effort and sometimes a dictionary), but if anyone tries speaking to me or i try reading something, i get confused and i struggle to understand.
mandarin chinese—beginner + rusty. i studied it for two years in high school, but it's very different from english and i always felt like i had no idea what i was doing. i haven't picked it up since (so it's been about two years), but i want to.
french—beginner + rusty. i studied it for a year in high school (that was two years ago). i haven't picked it up since, but i want to.
italian—beginner + rusty. i tried to teach myself italian during an independent study for a semester in high school. i haven't picked it up since, but i definitely want to, since it's a big part of my family identity.
swedish—literally just picked up, so super beginner. i'm still not quite sure what compelled me to start learning it, but i'm just going to keep rolling with it because it gets me to actually engage with a new language. also duolingo says i've done the "form basic sentences" part of their first unit but i have absolutely no memory of that.
latin—interested, and i've gotten as far as learning the pronunciation several years back. i hoard latin textbooks, but it hasn't been a learning priority.
greek—interested/beginner. i did a few lessons on duolingo wayyyy back covering the alphabet, pronunciation, and the articles i guess.
korean—interested/beginner. i finished the duolingo alphabet sections, but the last time i remember studying it was four or five years ago.
german—interested/beginner. as with the two above, i started the duolingo course a few years ago and dropped it after a while.
asl—beginner. i was in an asl club my first half of freshman year, but the club fell apart, so i haven't studied it in five years. overall, i think sign language is very useful and should be a mandatory subject in school, and i'd really like to get back into it.
other (a.k.a. languages i'm interested in, but haven't started and don't know if/when i will study)—japanese, portuguese, arabic, hawaiian, ukrainian, norwegian, irish, hebrew, dutch, russian, scottish gaelic, old norse, ancient greek, old english, icelandic

doldamverse finds her moving to seocheon in the 2nd year of residency. she can’t work with her assailant, but he’s got the connections, not her. she’s currently pursuing a fellowship in hpb/transplant surgery.

Mila's full English name 'Milana' is actually an ode to the fact that her parents met in Milan, Italy
She never actually met her younger half-brother and didn't even known about him until she overheard her mother talking about it on the phone, hence why she still claims to be an only child
Mila's family is actually very wealthy, with her grandfather being the chairman of a private hospital that was owned previously by her grandmother's father (Mila's great-grandfather)
Because of the previously stated fact, many of Mila's relatives are in the medical field, including her mother, who is a plastic surgeon with a clinic in Shenzhen
Mila is the eldest granddaughter and hence received preferential treatment from her grandparents and family members, who spoiled her; this is actually where her nickname 'Princess' first applied
Despite being spoiled, Mila's grandfather taught her the importance of humility, as he was actually from a poor family before he married her grandmother; for this reason, she never mentions her family wealthy, and it wasn't until fans started investigating her family's social media that it became a known fact and was exposed to the public
Mila earned the nickname 'Prada's Princess' after a clip went viral, wherein she went to an event for the brand and pointed out a bag she liked from the display collection, before posting a picture the next day thanking the brand for sending it to her
The most shocking gift Mila ever received from a fan was a sterling silver diamond tiara, which she couldn't accept because of how expensive it was
When Mila was 14, she desperately wanted a rhinoplasty, but her mother told her to wait until she got older; in the end, Mila never got it done because she learnt to appreciate her nose
If Mila wasn't an idol, she would want to be a travelling journalist, but would most likely end up pursuing medicine because of family tradition
When attending school in China, Mila was often called by the nickname "Bai Fu Mei," which is a term used to describe a woman who is "white, rich and beautiful," and coincidentally could be seen as a play on her surname "Bai" which also means "white"
Mila's first crush was a friend of her older cousin and a childhood neighbourhood, who she fell for after he carried her home on his back when she sprained her ankle
When she first joined BigHit, Mila was called the company's 'Tzuyu' because of how popular she was, often receiving love letters from her peers
Mila was given the "pure and innocent" image by the company when the group first debuted, which then became harder for her to maintain as she got more and more popular for her memes and comedic personality

Her father was a musician, and dreamt of performing for the world; her mother, however, disapproved of the time he spent away from home. Constant arguments led to a divorce when Mila was 9, and Mila’s mother took her back to China afterwards.
♯ 2013 - 2017 While in China, Mila would continue to pursue her passion for cheerleading, which she developed in Australia, after her mother had enrolled her with a free coupon she got from an associate. But at thirteen years old, she was suddenly dropped while stunting and fractured her spine, requiring a surgery. After the experience, her mother forbade her from continuing cheerleading.
♯ 2017 - 2018 Mila recovers fully from her surgery and seeks something else to do now that she can no longer continue her lifelong passion of cheer. One day, a school friend invited her to attend dance classes, and Mila decides to try it out. She started to fall in love with dance as time passed and decided it was something she wanted to continue doing on the future. One day, she sees that female trainee auditions are open at BigHit, and decides to audition with some Kpop friends who were interested. She was the only one in the group who was accepted.
♯ 2018-2020 Mila would eventually receive a difficult time from her mother, who condemned her for wanting to leave home to pursue fame, as it was the same thing her father did that caused her parent’s relationship to fall apart. Mila started to lose courage, not wanting to disappoint her mother. However, her grandmother stood firmly by her side and encouraged her to go. Mila would leave home without reconciling with her mother — something that would weight heavy on her heart for years to come. However, during that time, she became close friends with Kiara, and met Heeseung, Jay and Sunghoon through her. Together, they would enter the survival show I-Land, and would debut together in the group Enhypen.
♯ 2020-2021 Mila would grapple with the struggles of debuting and sudden rise to fame, as well as her awkward relationship with her mother. During this time, she also starts to realise that her feelings for certain members of the group. All of this becomes a melting pot of stress for Mila. However, Mila comes clean, and learns that the boys feel the same way about her. It would be a long and difficult process, but they would eventually accept a polyamorous relationship between Mila and the boys.
♯ 2021-PRESENT Despite many difficulties and challenges, Mila becomes one of the icons of the fourth generation of Kpop groups, with Enhypen continuing to rise in success and fame as time passes, while Mila and the boys continue to grow closer together.
