Gouache Warm up 3: Vendetta!Leon

Finally, i paint something that i'm pleased with 💖. Ever since i started draw RE4 stuff, pinterest kept giving me Leon pictures and i had these 2 pics of him in my stash. Also i'd like to point out that everyrime i draw older Leon, ppl always say he looked like somebody else (especially his twin Dante) 🤣🤣🤣

Had an enormous struggle while painting the last parts of that piece... i still have to learn how ppl load paintbrushes with paint bc i had good amounts of perfectly mixed gouache this time, but when using thin detail brushes the only options were: have the desired line width, but run out of paint in half a second, or load with a lot of paint but have the line width be much much thicker bc the paint is all bunched up at the tip

#talkys #i rly dont understand #its better than my first painting at least #i guess ill learn more if i keep doing it #also this time i mixed way more paint (quanity) per color instead of jst mixing a single speck to save paint #and it didnt go better. it didnt matter if i kept the big blobs of gouache spritzed it wld still dry on my ceramic dish in like 2 minutes.#and reactivating it with water wld go badly #(im using winsor newton gouache and its not the acrylic gouache either so its not even a ''cheap supplies'' issue)

PLEASE TUT ON GOUACHE

omg hahaha i’m no good at tutorials but i did actually take some process/wip pictures of my most recent painting, so i can share those!!

i started off with this drawing in my sketchbook

then i took it into clip studio to redraw digitally to figure out composition and the shadows… i printed this out and then lightbox traced it onto hot press paper to paint

these are scattered throughout the painting process but. i put down a wash of orange ink so i’m not painting on white, immediately got mad that it’s bright orange, then rushed to paint over the whole thing LOL… this painting was also supposed to be blue but the wildfire smoke rly influenced my palette :’))

#asks #idk if this is helpful but i love sharing these things #i also use acryla gouache #but i also mix it with regular gouache cuz i rly don’t care lmao.#i just have a lot of acryla gouache and it’s cheaper than regular… kinda sorta.. depends on the brand #if i use regular gouache i like winsor and newton cuz i’m spoiled but it’s so expensive. i only use one color from w&n and it’s red #cuz no other brand gets the color right

Saw this Victorian love letter on Instagram and decided to try it out :)

I hand painted it with Winsor & Newton gouache in ultramarine. I made this as a little letter for my partner, so in the blank space I'll be putting text, but you can paint more and add whatever you want really! I think the original I saw had more painting and less words. It's painted on Strathmore sketchbook paper cut to size (9x9).

the only gouache i have of any quality is acryla gouache and while i enjoy it i always feel like im usin it wrong lol 😭 i think watersoluable gouache is more for the type of techniques i do, i only see acryla gouache used for colorblocked stuff which is soooo not what i like 2 do.. i do love the color range and matte opacity of acryla gouache (and the fact that my watercolors can paint over it unlike other opaque paints..) i have some money set aside for supplies so im gonna treat myself to some watersoluable stuff.. maybe i can learn how to use both to compliment eachother

#acryla gouache just has a better color range tbh #but regular seems way up my alley.. ive only had cheap watersoluable gouache before #im thinkin of getting some of the holbein’s artist gouache but i also heard m. grahm and winsor and newton’s designer gouache is good.. well #i can always mix and match brands depending what the store stocks #i was tryin to think of why this outfit feels so familar. duh. jo from lumberjanes. it reminds me so much of her.#need to rework this character just was tryin somethhing out to see if i could make the gouache work #no id #jude’s wips #omg and its ripleys hair. did i just like revert back into my 10 yr old self making this #that was a special intrest.. soooo long ago
