ITTO

in hanamizaka, a very famous word goes around the market— 'if you're ever unable to look after your children, hand them to itto!'.

although he has reprimanded many guys who tried making fun of him because of that, and so has shinobu, perhaps to a greater extent, it is no lie that when itto looks at a child, his eyes glimmer with adoration for the little one. it seems that babies really enjoy the cushion of his muscly arms and generally warm body and even warmer smile— the gentleman does not mind spending hours with babies in his arms, going from place to place in the market and making the baby happy with so many sights and sounds.

taking proper care of the baby is entirely another thing however, and the women know of his inability in the matter so when they hand him the child, they look at shinobu with a very obvious gaze that seems to say, 'i trust you,' and shinobu smiles back, her own version of, 'yes, you can.'

HU TAO

there is a very beautiful word known as idol in the english dictionary, and if you slowly move your finger down the meaning and towards the antonym, you'll find hu tao's photo in it.

thing is, she treats everyone the same. friend, elders, children— everyone expects nothing from this prankster and she likes keeping it that way because that's real! she simply can't take responsibility of others, however hard she may try. as such, it would be hard for her to bear the responsibility of being a guardian or even an elder figure for a child. she wouldn't understand why she has to be any more ideal to a child than she is to a friend, it just doesn't register in her mind. she can entertain a child for hours on end— but she can't take care of them or even keep them safe anyhow.

KAVEH

we're all aware how sympathetic and kind kaveh is, and it translates perfectly in the way he looks after children. he knows how to look after them and make them be at peace— he isn't an expert at this but years at the akademiya mean that he has definitely learn a tip or two about child psychology from there so he knows how to implement that too! it's nothing much, but children feel safe around him. he manages to portray an ideal figure to look up to and somebody children could want to talk to for hours on end. he is very patient with them and sets them right when they might wrong.

my opinion? he would make it to the top five genshin characters who can look after children in every meaning of the word, along with tighnari.

LYNEY

another figure children would really admire! i think that he's more superficial with that actually, not that he dislikes children or anything, but he just puts up a persona that children would fall in love with and removes that mask when he's out of their vincinity. he is a free spirit who dances on the wind, so children could be a bit time-consuming and tiring for him, although he wouldn't cut back in any form of care and concern for them, he'd rather not take the burden.

what i mean is his love does not come as naturally to him as it does to itto and kaveh, he just does it because he was assigned the responsibility. i don't think this has to be said, but children would find him very fun too. even if he wasn't a magician, he just has a very fluid and attractive way of talking and children would love listening to stories they've heard before once again from him just because he tells them in a fun way.

VENTI

much like lyney actually, just much more mature with children. where lyney could come to a dead end in certain things with children, venti can infinitely trap them in conversation and get them to do stuff that is good for them even if they don't want to do it.

i'd say his love for children would also be more natural. he could just find their optimism and love for everything as sweet and innocent and feel an inexplicable need to protect them anyhow and that would make him very patient in dealing with children. he could very well dislike the caretaking part but he'd quickly just accept it as a favour he did to the child's mother by taking care of her kid a bit longer than need be so that she can rest. very kind with children overall, though his affection is shown by making funny faces at the child until they laugh.

XIAO

very well, surprisingly? or not, actually. even though it seems that he is cold, aloof and shut off, he actually cares a lot and is very observant by nature, it's simply that he doesn't act where he sees that the person can deal with it themselves. he doesn't have a single selfish bone in his body— and the same applies to children too.

he may not know how to take care of them, but he would love to learn it from anyone who might teach him, all with a very straight face but a warm heart. he also wants to protect them because they can't fend for themselves, and he's excellent at caretaking because of that. very good attention to detail and that keeps the child safe in every aspect. i see him also making sure to check which foods can be eaten or not eaten together and keep that in mind before giving the child anything to eat. he would also take care of the tiny stuff, like not startling them awake, being hyper-sensitive to their cries, not touching them with cold hands, and just being very kind to them.

that, of course, does not mean that he does not keep a scarily straight face while doing all that, making the child fearful and loving of his guardian at the same time. children would definitely find him boring and dull, but xiao wouldn't mind it.

NEUVILLETTE

i think he would view children in a very positive and soft light in the sense that he really likes their way of looking at the world and could just want to hear them talk because the way they just say touching or overly random things either strike a chord to his heart or make him crack up, and he likes both these feelings. he would want to keep the child very safe and secure to make sure they don't face anything that could scar them for life. not that he makes them dependent, no the tough love factor is definitely present, but he makes sure he is always there when they're learning to swim in deep waters so that he can pull them out should they drown.

he would also know caretaking and babysitting pretty well. and if he wouldn't, he'd be eager to learn. he would make sure of the child's comfort and talk to them for hours on end without getting bored and teach them about many things too. he would be a very safe and ideal figure for children. (un)surprisingly enough, his expression softens in a way it never does when he looks at children and his eyes seem to glimmer a bit.

even if he’s been alive for thousands of years, what did it matter how many heartbreaks he endured when you were right in front of him, an image of perfection in its purest form?

to see you happy and thriving is really the only thing that means more than the world to him

what was the need to learn to love this world he had to live in as a disguised god when all he really needs is for you to be right by his side?

he probably realized he was in love with you when you helped him steal lawfully gain possession of dandelion wine. sure it might be something meaningless to you, but to venti it held all the meaning an action as simple as that can possibly hold.

he’s an adeptus who has lived for thousands of years alone, what use does someone like him have for relationships?

of course he understands that not even adepti are immune to falling in love. while yes, there are people who simply aren’t romantically attracted to anything or anyone (WRITER SAYS ARO RIGHTS!!), xiao is not one of those people

in all honesty he was scared of getting close to you in fear that his karmic debt would transfer to you and incur the same suffering that he endured for thousands of years and eventually became immune to

you surely need not worry of demons in the night, as xiao made it his personal job to protect you before anyone else

he realized he loved you during the lantern rite festival. all the colors in the sky flying by were fleeting, just like human life itself. if life was a person or a being in general, it surely hates him. but you eased that pain, that ever growing hurt in his heart subsided when you were around.

KAZUHA •

kazuha my beloved

love at first sight isn’t real in his eyes, so he didn’t fall in love with you until you had told him of your hardships, and in return he had shared his with you

to him at least, understanding your troubles makes him more drawn to you. yet still, he was nervous to share the troubles that plagued his mind

but he feels so at ease around you, able to let go of the burden that weighs down on his heart, as free as the wind.

Here's an interesting one...

My main story (Steph's Crew) is set in a real place (fictional London in 2010), so I suppose the answers here would be similar to real-life coffee places lol.

There was a wide range of coffee shops catering to different tastes and preferences. Let's take a look at some of them, and explore the way my characters might feel about them...

High-End Specialty Cafes:

These spots irl are known for offering a selection of single-origin brews and meticulously crafted drinks. The prices tend to be higher, attracting coffee aficionados and those who appreciate a carefully made cup.

This place would likely be less popular with the crew since they're all pretty young and would prefer to get their coffee from a cheaper spot. They'd probably acknowledge the good quality of the drinks from places like this, though.

Bustling Hipster Joints:

These coffee shops are popular among the younger crowd, typically college students and young professionals. In other words, right up the crew's alley lol.

They have a trendy, rustic vibe with exposed brick walls, cosy seating, and indie music playing in the background. The atmosphere is lively and often bustling with people working on laptops, socialising, or simply enjoying a cup of coffee.

Artistic Bohemian Spots:

These cafes often double as art galleries or performance spaces. They're slightly more offbeat, attracting a creative crowd and hosting open mic nights or art exhibitions. The decor might be eclectic, with mismatched furniture and colourful murals.

Bret would love these lol. He's the creative one in the group, and he has a passion for art. I could see him taking El to places like these...

Quaint Traditional Cafes:

These places exude a more classic charm, attracting a mix of locals and tourists. They might have a more refined or vintage aesthetic, with wooden furniture, soft lighting, and a relaxed ambience. It's a spot where people come to unwind, read, or have casual conversations.

El would be particularly into the vibe of this kind of place. She's into the more simple, straightforward and traditional stuff... probably due to the way she was raised.

Hidden Gems:

There are also tons of fun little hidden gems in the city - small and obscure coffee shops that the group might discover together. These places offered unique coffee blends and were not too expensive, making them perfect for their diverse tastes.

This is a fun one since it is a minor plot point in book 1! Bret and El have this tradition where they walk each other home and get "lost" along the way... discovering new parts of the city and all. That's how they find their favourite spots, including their favourite record shop. It's also how they met Stevie.

Here's what their go-to drink orders might be:

Stephanie:

Vanilla latte - she'd likely enjoy something both sweet and has a strong coffee flavour, reflecting her dynamic personality. The smoothness of the latte with a touch of sweetness matches her charismatic yet layered character. Plus, it's a simple, straightforward order.

A venti iced caramel macchiato with extra caramel drizzle - she loves the indulgence and complexity of this drink. The sweetness of the caramel and the kick of caffeine are just a nice combination, and again, fits her personality quite well.

Caramel Frappuccino - these just look really good to me lol. Never had one myself, but I think Steph would be into them.

Iced Caramel Macchiato - another thing that looks/sounds nice haha.

Bret:

Double shot espresso or a simple black coffee - he would likely prefer a strong, no-nonsense drink that wakes him up and gives him a jolt of energy. He's straightforward and doesn't fuss over elaborate flavours in the same way that Steph likely would.

A black coffee (Americano) - yet another simple but strong choice that suits his vibe quite nicely.

Elise:

Chamomile tea with a dash of honey- she really appreciates simplicity and comfort. Fits her personality, too... calming, soft and sweet all at once.

Plain cappuccino - simple straightforward order that gets the job done.

Chai Latte - these are really nice... I just think El would really like these. It reflects her understated yet warm nature.

Dylan:

Americano - similar to Bret's reasoning before. He's straightforward and doesn't fuss over elaborate drink options. He'd like a strong, no-nonsense drink choice that wakes him up and gives him a jolt of energy.

Flat White - the perfect balance between bold coffee and a hint of sweetness

A large iced mocha with extra whipped cream - something that's both indulgent and energetic, mirroring his outgoing and active nature. The mocha provides a mix of chocolate and coffee, and the whipped cream adds a touch of sweetness!

Alice:

Mocha - she likes the comforting blend of coffee and chocolate for a touch of sweetness.

A flat white with a side of carrot cake - straightforward but still sophisticated, just like her (very all over the place, but still has a touch of class lol). Carrot cake is also a guilty pleasure of hers.

Vanilla Latte - if she's not feeling in the mood for a mocha, she'd likely go for this instead.

Okay okay okay hello

I would like to say something about this here post from late January about Kaeya choosing between Khaenri'ah and Mondstadt.

Kaeya is an extremely complex character with and extremely complex past and a turbulent relationship with loyalties. We all know this.

While some people do want to see him become a villain, and others want him to be one of the heroes, I am here to tell you that no matter which nation he chooses, he will be both.

Khaenri'ah shows up, knocking on Mondstadt's front gates, and Kaeya oh so kindly opens them for them - he's a traitor to Mondstadt, it's archon, it's people, yes. But he's also a hero to his birth nation. He is simply doing his job, fulfilling his destiny, being loyal to the people he came from.

Alternatively, Khaenri'ah comes knocking and Kaeya chooses to put his sword against them, slaughtering any abyss creature who tries to harm Mondstadt - Kaeya's seen as a hero to Mond, staying loyal to the people who took him in as one of their own, his family, their archon. But he's a traitor and a villain to his birth nation. As many headcanons as there are, none of us can actually know whether the people of his motherland were cruel and heartless to him or if they were warm and loving. If they were the latter, just imagine how harsh that would be - to love someone and place all your hope in them, only to have them turn against you mercilessly.

I would also like to point out that Khaenri'ah and the abyss aren't really enemies of Mondstadt. Yes, they attack the people, but they attack the people all across teyvat. They're not necessarily planning on overthrowing the city, but instead aim to target Celestia. Archons, on behalf of Celestia, destroyed the nation of Khaenri'ah, killed all its people and cursed the rest. If Khaenri'ah comes knocking, they won't be targeting Mondstadt, or Liyue, or Inazuma or any other nation for that matter - they will be targeting the archons and Celestia itself.

I believe that Kaeya would not step in to stop them here. If the people of Khaenri'ah target Celestia, Kaeya will not intervene, because, like it or not, those are still his people who witnessed the cataclysm and lifetimes of cursed suffering.

I do however believe that he would intervene if Khaenri'ah decided to target the people as means to attract Celestia's attention. Kaeya has deep bonds with the people of Mondstadt. He loves Diluc, his brother adopted or not, even if they can't show it because they still grew up together. He loves Klee, would do anything for the innocent little child to prevent her from finding out the harsh realities of the world. He loves Jean, and Rosaria, and Fischl, and Bennett and he loves the elderly, who all love him in return! They are his people, whether by birth or otherwise, they are his. And I believe that he will protect them if he has to.

Will Kaeya protect Venti? No. Hear me out, they may be drinking buddies and get along very well, but Venti is still an archon. Barbados is not Kaeya's god. And in the situation where Khaenri'ah is attacking, Barbados is who Kaeya would be looking at, not Venti the bard. This does not, however, mean that he would attack him either. I believe Kaeya would just stand back, observe how his two identities fight against eachother, and hurt and feel victorious simultaneously no matter what the outcome is.

Because that's who Kaeya is - both a traitor and a hero no matter who wins and who loses.

Like... It's not simply a black (khaenri'ah) and white (mondstadt) choice, it's a complex moral issue, there's a reason he was very apprehensive in choosing and agonized over the decision for years! It's not just like "Oh ok I'll choose Mond because they're my real family and shit."

It's soooooooo annoying because a lot writers remove all the moral aspect from it and don't even, you know?, consider that maybe a child of nation whom was (most likely unjustly) destroyed by celestia would want to... you know? Try and oppose them? Like mah dudes... mah bros you can't just say oh yeah but they raised you, it's not that simple.

Also, Khaenri'ah's plan doesn't HAVE to include destroying Mondstadt, nor the rest of Teyvat for that matter. Like, most Khaneri'ahns don't seem to want that and I legit can't find a logical reason they would destroy Mondstadt according to current lore.

So yeah, if Khaenri'ah were to try and destroy Mond i feel like he'd at least try and stop them but otherwise... I just don't see him choosing mond I'm sorry...

He does care for Khanenri'ah to some extent, that's the whole point of his character, that he is divided between two different sides of himself and shit.

Wether or not Kaeya's father was abusive (and he is, at the very least, lackluster as a parent (mostly because of the leaving the child in an active storm when he could've died, you know?) and we can argue about how bad he was all day) this is still very much a moral choice.

Like, I always think "Dude? If you had a bad parent, abusive, absent whatever, and they were a very well known climate activist would you become a climate change denier?" because even if he doesn't do it for his father, Kaeya could do it for all the innocent people in Khaneri'ah, you know? the ones that are slowly dying a slow and painful death while forgetting who they are, he can have his own deeply personal reasons to support Khaneri'ah.

The haunted house was full of darkness and bright blue and red neon lights. Screams and howls came from the speakers on the side of the attraction, gravestones and fake ghosts and smoke rose up from the ground.

Behind them came the mysterious person in sunglasses, slowly walking behind them. Amy didn’t seem to notice them in the dark and kept along the path.

“Seems like something Hou Tau would like, eh?” Amy asked as she lightly squeezed Venti’s hand. Despite saying she wasn’t afraid and that everything was fake, it seemed she was getting a little creeped out even by the animatronics. That was when a zombie popped out in front of them and screamed loudly causing Amy to scream back and cower beside her roommate.

Of course it wasn’t a real zombie, just some worker at the fair dressed up like one. But still it shocked her.

-Venti squeezes her hand back.- "Hey, don't worry~. I've got you, my friend~. Sure, Hu Tao would really like this from what I've heard about her from Morax~." -He suddenly stops, sensing another presence other than the workers in the haunted house. Aether

You’re a princess and he’s a prince of another country. Simple childhood friends that were promised to each other at a young age. It was only when you were older that you realized the two of you were to be wedded at a certain age. With that thought in mind, it was hard to interact with him without thinking about the fact that he was going to be your husband. Still, it wasn’t such a bad thing in your mind. After all, Aether had always been a prince who looked after you, and always had your best interests in heart. It takes you a while to realize that there’s something a little strange about Prince Aether and that he’s changed a little. You find out what it is as you stumble upon a room with a huge magic circle in it. You figure out that he’s trying to revive his twin sister, and he needs a human sacrifice. You fit all the required descriptions.

Albedo

A prince, but also a well-known scholar. His people don’t see much of him because he’s always locked up in his library, researching various things. The king and queen have tried time and time again to present various princesses for him to choose from. He refuses every one of them. He thinks they’re all just rich girls from rich families attending their rich dinners. No substance at all. Until you come along. You who told his parents that they didn’t need to arrange a dinner, you’d be the one to look for Prince Albedo in his library. So this book-loving prince was startled when you, a book-loving princess, accompany him in the library, partaking in his research and readings. He let’s his guard down, and the moment he does, his research papers disappear and you’ve disappeared along with them. 

Bennett

The young, aspiring knight. He has all the energy a new recruit would have. Sparkly-eyed, determined and strong-willed. He’s actually a baron, but only adopted into the royal family so some people don’t really see him as a real royal. He doesn’t let that get him down though because he doesn’t see himself as much of a royal either. He’d rather be a knight, go on journeys and be given important tasks. You’re the princess that he serves and it’s not a crime to have a little crush on you right? Looking from afar never hurt anyone. It’d be blasphemy for a knight his rank to even think of talking to you.

Chongyun

He started off as an apprentice sorcerer in the palace. Eager to learn and serve. Years later he’s climbed the ranks and has become the High Sorcerer. He’s tasked to accompany you if ever there’s any business outside the country. You always try to ease his nerves by telling him to lighten up, but he takes his work of protecting you seriously. The attraction between the two of you is undeniable, but neither of you act on it because you know your parents would never approve. In a twist of fate, Chongyun ends up saving your life during a dangerous situation. Your parents decide to give him a fair chance to woo you. They arrange a battle royal, open for all sorcerers. Whoever wins may wed you. 

Dainsleif

A prince that was already happily engaged to someone else. However, she was lost to an illness. He didn’t care if he was re-arranged to someone else, so that’s what happened and he was arranged to you. It was literally just an arranged marriage. Aside from the wedding day, you never even stayed in the same room as him. It was a miserable first few months for you, the other noblewomen started to whisper and spread rumors that the prince didn’t even love you and treated you like a maid. However, you put a bit more effort in getting to know him, and slowly, he realizes that he’d been treating you unfairly. Just when the two of you start getting closer, another princess shows up, and she looks exactly like Prince Dainsleif’s dead lover. 

Diluc

Diluc automatically became the king when his father passed away. He watches over his kingdom quietly and does so diligently, day and night. People get the wrong impression of him as he rarely smiles. Still, he’s held in high regard as he’s at the top of the hierarchy. Before his father passed, one of his last wishes was for him to marry a particular duchess. It was just an agreement made between his father and yours. Diluc wanted to honour it. He, of course, just thinks of it as something that needs to be done. He doesn’t communicate well with others, including you. It’s a rather awkward marriage with a lot of silence, but you play your part as the queen and offer your assistance in any way you can. Pretty soon he starts to see that the support you give is quite valuable and an irreplaceable bond starts to form between the two of you. Imagine his shock when he finds out that your father was involved in the death of his. 

Gorou

Grand Commander of the archery unit in the royal infantry. Everyone in that unit answers to him. He stands at the same position as the Grand Commander of the knights. You’re the princess of the kingdom he serves. One day, you mysteriously approach Gorou and ask him to teach you how to use the bow. He’s dumbfounded.  “Pardon me for asking, princess, why are you interested in learning how to wield a weapon at all? You have us and the knights under your hands to protect you,”

“To protect me, or my father?” your question doesn’t make sense to him. In his mind he serves both you AND your father. It’s only later on that Gorou understands, when the crimes of your evil father are exposed, a resistance was made against him. Your father orders his royal infantry to kill all resistance members, but you’re at the heart of the resistance. It’s here that Gorou needs to decide if he serves you, or your father. 

Itto

Leader of a bandit group. Some people just saw them as hooligans, but they were an organized group, able to execute their plans cleanly. Somehow and some way, you, a baroness, gets kidnapped by Itto. You’re terrified and instantly hate his guts. However, you find out that there’s a reason behind his planned kidnapping. He doesn’t plan to hurt you at all, and his members treat you with respect. All he had wanted was for the nobles to listen to his requests, his village is dying, caving under poverty and lack of resources, and yet none of the nobles have sent any kind of support to even help the village get up on its two feet again. You’re humbled by this encounter and make it a mission to try and help his village get the support it needed. You succeed in passing on Itto’s message, but you’re forbidden to ever see him again. 

Kaeya

The carefree prince and brother of King Diluc. Seeing him gallivanting around town was normal and the townspeople loved his sociable energy. The two of you were childhood frenemies, always bickering since you were younger and even through your teenage years. Still, your mothers arranged the two of you into a marriage and you were not happy about it. Kaeya seemed to feel the same. He didn’t act like your husband for months, still going out to masquerades by himself and talking up noblewomen. One day, while he’s at a ball by himself, he gets poisoned. The only antidote is a flower from a neighbouring country which you immediately go to retrieve. The prince of the neighbouring country is evil and powerful. He says that you can take all the flowers you want, but you’ll have to stay in his country with him. You agree and pass off the flowers to the knights, telling them that Prince Kaeya is running out of time and it’s the only way. The knights comply and when Kaeya wakes up, all better, he wonders where you are. The knights proceed to tell him the whole story. 

Kazuha

The princess’ personal guard. Not a knight, but someone who has to be quick on his feet and a master of the sword. After all, he’s the first responder if anything were to happen to you. He’s the one person who’s sat through all of your meetings. Went to all of your royal parties. Sits in the carriage with you. As such, you spend a lot of time with him. He’s rather gentle and unassuming. Doesn’t look like he’s deadly with a sword at all. The two of you have a certain attraction going on, but neither of you act on it because you know it would never happen. One day, your engagement is announced. Your parents have taken a liking to a certain prince. Kazuha has no say over it, merely continuing to serve you. Weeks before your wedding you’re taken hostage at a royal gathering. A dark sorcerer claims that he needs your blood, pure and untainted, to finish an ongoing ritual. Your soon to be husband turns tail and runs, not even giving you a second glance in order to save his own life. None other than Kazuha steps up to save you when everyone else had already fled in a panic.

Razor

Born to a poor family and never getting the education he needed, he struggles to communicate with others, but has very good fighting skills and a strong sense of survival. Both his parents died due to poverty and because he doesn’t fit in around town, he builds his own small house in the woods. One day as he’s returning home he finds a young lady passed out and scratched up at the trail leading to his home. Without thinking much of it, he picks you up and takes you home to nurse you back to health. When you wake up all healed you realize he doesn’t talk much and find out that he doesn’t really know how to read or write. He’s kind enough not to shoo you out of his small house so you decide that you’d at least teach him how to talk and read the language to repay him for saving you. A mutual friendship had formed between the two of you and he was thankful that you taught him so many things. You stayed at his for about a week, until one night, his house is surrounded by knights shouting “Give the princess back!”

Scaramouche

Dubbed “The Ruthless Prince”. He gets what he wants, whenever he wants it. Anyone who does him wrong will be executed and people didn’t doubt it because there’d been rumors of him keeping prisoners in the palace’s dungeons. So if he wants to marry a commoner, then he’ll marry a commoner. That’s what happens when he’s out one day on his horse and just spots you at a store. There isn’t really anything special about you, but you catch his eye and he points “That one, I want that one,” as if you’re some kind of toy in a toy shop. You’re whisked away and dressed in proper noble and princess clothing and realize that you’re going to be married to him, no questions asked. Your family will be given however much money they want. Your family doesn’t push you to do it, but your parents were far from rich and worked hard all their lives, you really wanted to at least give them a good life so you agree. It can’t be that bad right?

Tartaglia

The two of you were already engaged, just waiting for the long awaited day to come, a marriage of two countries. Despite it being arranged, prince Tartaglia spent a lot of his time getting to know you and finding out that you are exactly what he wants in a life partner. He cherishes you like no other. However, arguments and disagreements ensued between your father and his, and instead of the wedding going through, a war erupted between his country and yours, tearing the two of you apart. You find ways to exchange letters in secret, and plan to meet up in the woods at a certain date and time. What Tartaglia didn’t know was that his letters were being monitored. His father knew exactly where you were meeting and had already planned to ambush you.

Thoma

A kind and humble prince who treated everyone equally, commoners included. Your father is the royal family’s doctor and when you were of age, you start to accompany him to learn more about how to be one yourself. That’s how Prince Thoma meets you and is also how you get to know him better. Years later you’re engaged to him but life as a commoner turned noble isn’t easy. In any gathering, masquerade, ball or tea party, everyone looks at you as if you’re dirt under their feet. The noblewomen are particularly bad during tea parties, making you the target of their bullying. It proves to be too much, and you return to Thoma expressing that you didn’t want to go on with the wedding. He realizes he hadn’t been mindful enough of your struggles and tries to win you back.

Venti

Prince Venti was already engaged to you. He couldn’t quite say that he loved you, but he enjoyed your presence and was on very friendly terms with you. Other than you, Princess Sarah was a good friend of Prince Venti’s, and frequently visited Prince Venti’s palace. She was quite jealous of you, who seemed to come out of nowhere and gotten between her and Prince Venti. 

Prince Venti was known to be a genius in the art of music and one of the palace’s prized possession was the holy lyre, passed on from generations and generations of nobility. One day, it goes missing, and is found to be hidden under your pillow in your bedroom. You have no clue how it ends up there and swear to Venti that you didn’t touch it at all. Nevertheless the evidence was too strong, the engagement was cut and you went from being a princess to a nobody real quick, shunned by royalty, shunned by Venti, and even by your own parents, disgusted by your crime. However, weeks later Venti finds out that Princess Sarah had been the one to take the lyre and put it in your bedroom, framing you for the theft. 

Xiao

A prince, but also the grand commander of the knights. Formidable in battle and is always in the front lines of war. He didn’t care much for romance and is always busy with his knightly duties. Even for the announcement of his engagement to you, he was out leading the knights into battle. You see each other during the wedding day, after that, he’s off again. It’s like you’re not married at all, until one day his father forces him out of his knight duties. Xiao begrudgingly spends time with you but also secretly feels sorry that you’re wedded to him. He’s surprised though, because the first time he sits at the breakfast table with you, you were pleasant and didn’t even fault him for being away for so long. Instead you ask questions about him and try to get to know him more. Gradually he opens up to you but is needed in the front lines soon after. He’s reluctant to leave this time, eager to come back to you. Not even three days into his duties, he’s given an urgent request to come back to the palace. You’ve been struck by an unknown disease and it’s eating your life away.

Xingqiu

You’re a new recruit in Prince Xingqiu’s royal army. You were adept in the magic artes and they quickly realize you had the potential to be a high sorcerer. It doesn’t take long for you to get to the rank, possibly a few months, and you’re now tasked with the job of being Prince Xingqiu’s protector wherever he went. The Prince was warm and cordial, and treated you with the utmost respect and admiration. In return, you took your work seriously and watched over him closely. Over time the two of you built a friendship that revolved around trust. Xingqiu wouldn’t have to worry about his back if you were with him. 

It’s one particular afternoon that you’re ambushed in the woods, the knights surround Prince Xingqiu’s carriage, protecting him and you start to put up a magic barrier around the knights. Before your spell finishes, you’re thrown towards the nearest tree trunk and pushed against it. Your captor states loudly. “Y/N, your job was to kill the prince, you incompetent fool. You’ve taken far too long, we’re taking matters into our own hands,” Xingqiu hears everything from the carriage, and by the time everything’s over and the knights have warded the enemies away, you were gone. 

Zhongli

A wise, well spoken prince. Looks at everything objectively and does not get agitated easily. Also the grand commander of the lance fournies (basically knights on horseback that uses the lance instead of a sword). You’re already married to him and the romance the two of you had was just beginning to blossom. He cared for you more and more each day. 

The kingdom was struck by an earthquake one night, although it only lasted a few seconds. Everyone thought that was the end of it, but the earthquakes became more frequent. Rumors and legends start to spread that the ancient dragon sealed underneath a large tree outside of town was starting to awaken again, and it was threatening the peace of the kingdom. Zhongli investigates and realizes that the rumors are true. The ancient seal was withering away and no one knew how to fix it nor defeat the dragon. However, the dragon speaks. In three days, the seal will break. The only way to stop it is to present it with an offering of its choice. The dragon chooses the prince’s wife to be the offering.

The cafe’s heaters radiate warmth around the building like the hug of a fireplace. Chatter mingles with the smell of sweet vanilla and holiday spices, just as Xiao stirs his drink to mix the caramel with its contents.

“So, Mr Top-Rated Boyfriend,” you tease. “How hard was it to arrange a break during the Christmas period?”

Xiao raises a brow. “About as hard as it was for you…?”

You nod in faux-seriousness. “I see, so it was a hard-earned battle…”

“Was it that bad?” His lips quirk amusedly. “Or did you just get into a debate with your agency again?”

“I had to cancel a recent booking,” you admit, taking a bite of your dessert. “It was a regular client though, so they were understanding about it.”

A frown. “We could’ve just rescheduled our own hangouts, you know.”

Noticing Xiao’s expression, you make a resolute stab at your plate. “Nope, I wouldn’t allow it! Cafe-hopping with my best friend is a very important event, and I wasn’t about to back down just for a bit more money.”

His lips quirk. “What if it was a lot more money?”

“Hmm… it’d have to be enough to pay for a tower of macarons, and even more.” You nod to yourself, successfully drawing a laugh out of him. The playful mood makes your heart feel light, and you rest your elbows on the table to lean closer. “…So yeah, I wouldn’t have abandoned you.”

“I’m honored,” Xiao’s ears are slightly flushed from the walk you took earlier. You can’t help but admit that he was cute, on top of being really attractive. Golden eyes twinkle as he rests his cheek against the palm of his hand. “So what shall we do for the rest of winter?”

How cruel for him to be like this, and for you to feel at home with Xiao; you wonder if he feels it too, the push and pull of emotions leashed by both your occupations.

Winter decorations around the national park are always a feast for the eyes. Today is no exception, with snow falling like sugared icing onto the paths that streamed throughout the city.

Childe’s bright smile makes you a bit suspicious however, stealing your attention away from the fairy lights you were admiring before.

“What is it?” You finally ask, a slight pout forming on your lips. The cold made your cheeks burn, and somehow his company is only making you more conscious of that. “Is there something on my face?”

“I was just thinking of how many people are jealous of me right now,” Childe innocently winks. “I get to go on a date with one of the best-rated partners without even paying a fee!”

You stare at him, deadpan. “This isn’t exactly a date. We’re just hanging out, and you’re my friend.” You huff, not wanting to give in to him. “It’s not business, but don’t let it get to your head either.”

“Got it, boss.” Childe chirps, taking a few steps forward before extending a hand for you to take. “Are these what your job-dates are like? It’s pretty nice. Maybe I should book a day with you.”

“…well, if you do, there’s nothing I can do about it.” You look away, thoughtful. “Though don’t get surprised if you don’t recognize my behavior.”

Who am I kidding… Of course I wouldn’t want him to book me - what’d he think after seeing how different I am?

“Hmm… I guess you’re right.”

Your eyes snap up from the ground. “Huh?”

Childe helps you adjust your scarf, chuckling lightly. “Why would I pay to spend time with some ‘other you’ if I have the real thing right here?”

“What you’re saying is sweet, but it somehow makes me want to charge you for today.”

“I’ll pay any price if it means you’re here.” He bows dramatically, peering to see your expression. “Though please don’t run my wallet dry. I’m only human, you know.”

Venti used to do the same job as you in the past + you two are pretty close! (The latter might be an understatement)

“You’re burning up,” he lightly chides. “Figures that out of all things, you work yourself into a fever just as the holidays begin."

You don't bother replying, instead shutting your eyes; the blankets bundling your form were really comfortable, and Venti's hands were cool to the touch when they cup your face to gauge your temperature. 

Grimacing a bit, you try not to lean towards him when he retreats - it wasn't fair that you fell ill! You thought you'd been careful enough, taking the right precautions to battle away a growing fever, and yet…

Venti laughs at your brooding, the light sound both music to your ears and an annoying reminder that he felt perfectly fine, as opposed to your headache and weighed-down limbs. 

You relax as you feel him shift closer, tucking his hair behind his ear and resting the side of his head against yours. "I've texted Zhongli, he'll bring over his miracle-remedies later today."

"We shouldn't bother him," You wonder what his reaction was when Venti contacted him for that. "Was he annoyed?"

"Worried, actually." He intertwines your hands, letting the silence pass as you rest. "...If you're this anxious, it probably means you have work in a few days, right?"

Work; you already begin to dread canceling on a date. Sure, your reasons were valid, but it doesn't change the fact that it'll probably go on the record.

You smile weakly. "I'm starting to think you can read me a bit too well."

Venti winks back, scooting closer to settle comfily against the sofa and your side. "Mhm! Now what should we watch? It'll probably be a while until Zhongli arrives."

You hear his message loud and clear as he reaches for the controller; you're not escaping to work so long as you're still sick. You recall how Venti once joked about going to appointments in your place during emergencies.

He wouldn't actually go that far… right?

KAEDEHARA KAZUHA •

Gently holding your knee that had just been scraped as tears welled up in your eyes. You stumbled over to Kazuha and he looked over at you, concern welling in his red and gold eyes as he looked at your crying face then down at your scraped knee. “Just sit down, I’ll be back in a second.” He said quietly as you sat down on his bed while he retreated into his bathroom and came back a second later with a small box of medical supplies as he pushed his red and white colored bangs out of his face and tucked them behind his ear. He was just your best friend, but something about the relationship you had with him made you think he had feelings for you. It was the way he was so concerned when you got hurt, how he always wanted to be around you, so much more than that as well. Out of the box came a small disinfectant wipe for wounds, an apologetic look on Kazuha’s face as he pressed it against your knee. The sting of it hit within seconds, and your hiss of pain earned a quick apology from him as he wiped the rest of the blood off your knee and put a bandage over it. Kazuha quickly put his medical supplies away and helped you out to the couch in his living room.

“Please try to be more careful, okay?” He said as he sat down next to you.

“I know it’s stupid but…it hurts my heart when you get hurt, you know?” He continued, now looking away from you to hide his blushing face.

XIAO •

Laying on your bed in the dark as your close friend’s voice came from your phone. It was a strange relationship the two of you had, he knew he loved you but he was too prideful to admit it, even though he was vaguely aware of your love for him. For him to quietly contemplate his feelings for you wasn’t unheard of, that much is for sure.

Part of your heart yearned to confess your love for him right then and there, where the both of you were groggy and sleepy from talking for hours. It had to be past midnight at that point, and you felt the exhaustion and need for sleep begin to kick in, yet your heart and mind synced in feeling as if you were more alive than ever. How could something as seemingly meaningless as talking on the phone with Xiao for this long be such a big deal to you? A simple question with a simple answer, really. It was just because you cherished every second you had the opportunity to spend with him.

To be hopelessly in love with someone in the manner you were now wasn’t uncommon among the people who felt romantic attraction, yet no one told you it would be this painful to keep these feelings inside your heart. tears began to silently well up in your eyes.

“I realized something a few days ago…I think I love you.” Xiao said quietly before hanging up.

Venti is no stranger to loss of people close to him. He’s been alive for thousands of years and it’s no secret that he uses alcohol to drown his problems so he doesn’t have to think about the suffering he’s endured at the hands of time. Yet as a god, he’s as free as the wind he governs over.

To keep you close is his only goal, he doesn’t want to lose anyone again. One night, during a walk through Mondstadt’s mountains he decided he decided he was ready to express his love for you. For the longest time he thought he was in a way immune to real love due to living since the archon war. He loved people, but he knew it simply couldn’t be because he was a god. But you were different for him, because you were a god too.

The god of [your element] and the god of anemo, surely the other archons didn’t need to know that he held a high regard and romantic feelings for you.

So, as you approached the city of Mondstadt he decided there was no time better than now. No day but today. Rain began to fall from the cloudy sky and Venti looked towards you smiling.

“You know, I’ve loved you for a long time. I know that maybe the other archons won’t like it, but I figured it would be better to say it and free myself from the shackles of unexpressed love.” He said as he looked up at the sky, strategically averting your gaze. Same Old Love | Kaeya (Genshin) x Traveler!Reader

✧ Summary: Kaeya was mysterious in every way that made you wary. From the gleam in his eye to how easy it was for him to flirt, it made you wonder how much he was presenting was truly real. You had some worries about Kaeya, dubbed “The Handsome Mr. Kaeya” by Paimon.

There was no doubt that he was attractive, his ever present smirk and exposed chest was enough to signify to anyone that even Kaeya was well aware of his looks. But he tended to wield his words like a double edged sword - using his words for an express purpose.

It was admirable, in a way. He was the loyal Cavalry Captain who looked out for Mondstadt’s best interest. And while he had misled you on this pirate treasure adventure, there was no harm really done. In fact, from the way he prattled about haircuts and eyepatches inherited from his parents, you were already sure that it was simply a tale being spun for Paimon to latch onto.

At the end of the day, Kaeya still compensated you for your time and provided you with a higher-level weapon. The criminals were caught and the Knights were credited for another arrest of an infamous Treasure Hunter. It was a win-win situation that you very quickly put behind you as another job done.

The entire quest had not really bothered you - it was not like you had not withheld anything either. You ran from clue to clue without updating Kaeya on your progress, with the express intent of snagging some of this treasure yourself.

It was a really smart move on his part and, for whatever reason, it had the inverse effect on you - it made you want to get closer to Kaeya.

Paimon grumbled for all of a day before she prattled onto something new, complaining about the returning ruin guard by the temple or the way Venti sassed her. But you often found yourself hanging around Good Hunter or  Angel’s Share, wondering if you would be able to run into him again.

It was no surprise that Kaeya was always busy, Jean had mentioned before that Kaeya was the one who often wrapped up every physical incident that occurred in both the city and outer plains of Mondstadt.

And so it was easy to lose track of him, the image of Kaeya still present in your mind, just pushed back in the further recess as you continued in your struggle to find clues about your brother. When whispers on the street spoke of a Dark Knight hero, you were pleasantly surprised to see Diluc patrolling the streets from the shadows.

The last thing you had expected was to team-up with the very man who ran opposite to the Knights, but you learned how oddly sweet Diluc was in that short amount of time. His double life of fighting off the abyss army single-handedly to running the largest Winery on the continent - Diluc’s workload was no easy feat.

You were just out of the clear, Huffman gone to deal with the slimes when a resounding clap started from the dining area of the bar. Kaeya stood and approached you both, you turned to Diluc and he had the flattest, most unimpressed expression on.

You stood mostly silent in that conversation, Diluc with his arms and chin held high. Kaeya had reassured him that the secret was best kept that way, eyes glinting mischievously as they went from the winery owner to you.

You only stared right back, as if Kaeya’s face would give off exactly what he was looking for. Instead, he simply smiled at the both of you and left when Diluc said he was closing the bar. Diluc thanked you for your assistance, reassuring you that in case you need help, he was a willing hand.

When you walked out the bar then, Kaeya was still right outside, chatting casually with some of the late bar-goers that sat at the picnic table. Just as he made eye-contact with you, he bid himself goodbye from the group and fell into step with you.

“Paimon doesn’t trust blue-haired, eye-patched men anymore.” She started next to you.

“That’s good I’m a blue-haired, eye-patched handsome young man.” Kaeya shot back, to which she rolled her eyes. He then turned to you with the same open smirk as usual, “And here I was thinking I could make you my assistant.”

Was he flirting with you?

It took you a second to question this internally before Paimon scoffed, “Ugh, I’m going ahead to the inn. I don’t think I can stand watching you make kissy-faces at each other after the day we had.”

You waved a hand in her direction to smack her, but she was already flying away up and out of reach.

Turning back to the Captain, you were surprised to see that Kaeya was still looking at you, not even toward Paimon as she fled into the night.

Remembering his last statement, you shot back, “Think you could handle me?”

“Confidence, it looks very good on you.” Kaeya replied as his smile widened. He took a single step closer, lowering his voice next to your ear and continuing. “But the real question is if you have any idea what you’re getting yourself into?”

You stood your ground, ignoring the shiver that ran up your spine, “I always like to try new things.”

“I look forward to it.” Kaeya straightened, lightly grabbing your hand in one of his own and raising it to his lips. “Until then, traveler.”

To think that such a simple action, hardly anything scandalous, had lingered on your skin the entire night. You remembered the way his lips felt against your hand, how striking his blue eyes bore into your own. Kaeya was extremely dangerous, able to catch your attention and keep it for hours on end.

The next day you had a commission about dismantling a rising Hilichurl camp, a perfect distraction away from the eye-patched hunk that kept plaguing your thoughts. The last thing you expected was for Kaeya to see you.

“Looks like our honorary knight continues their do-good streak.”

“It’s the least I can do.” You replied back, a sassy hand on your waist.

“Why don’t I accompany you?”

You wanted to scream.

Paimon actually did groan before stating she was going to stay in the city.

And suddenly, your distraction was running exactly opposite to your intention. With Kaeya joining your party, the Cavalry Captain was making himself decidedly known you.

He led you around a cliff, showing you a higher area where you could survey the camp before bursting in guns blazing. There were six Hilichurls, some slimes scattered about and two towers already set-up in this enemy campsite.

You decided to stick together, coming in from the high ground and slamming your weapon into the ground at unsuspecting enemies. It felt nice to fight alongside someone again, oftentimes you were alone in your adventures. Paimon would yell words of encouragement, but never would she actually lift a finger to fight. But Kaeya was reliable, freezing enemies into place and shattering them where they stood.

Taking down some of the outer-rim electro Hilichurls equipped with bows, you were nearly finished with clearing the entire camp. You grabbed the pyro slimes and exploded them near the towers, taking down the camp with them. With the camp almost completely disassembled, you heard the tell-tale electronic power-up that only signified one enemy.

A ruin guard.

Hunched over, you watched as multiple missiles took aim on the nearby unsuspecting Cavalry Captain. Running the best you could, you threw decorum out the window as you all but tackled the poor man out of harm's way.

Rolling a few times, there was no surprised yelp from the man beneath you. He simply allowed you to take the wheel until you came to a stop, hovering over his body. Kaeya was undoubtedly taller than you, but you were face-to-face as he smirked beneath you.

“Wow, not that I’m against this.” Kaeya started, a quip ready. “But ask me out to dinner first.”

You flushed and stood up immediately, “I was saving you!”

“I’ll let you save me any day of the week.” Kaeya replied, earning a half-assed scowl on your behalf. He only laughed at you, calling your attempted look of intimidation only served to make a cute pout instead.

You huffed and considered leaving him with the ruin guard.

From then on there was no doubt about it - Kaeya was flirting with you.

And you were openly flirting back, if of course he decided a less obnoxious moment. In between commissions and nights at Angel’s Share, Kaeya flirtations were growing more and more brazen. It was one thing to kiss the top of your hand in greeting and another entirely for Kaeya to throw his hand across your hair, leaning in to openly bury his nose in your hair.

Diluc called you both disgusting.

Tonight, you entered Cat Tail’s semi-inconspicuously to get a drink. Paimon had long caught onto your game, saying that she surprisingly approved of Kaeya, since after all he was still a good guy in some ways.

But, she still was not exactly a fan of you too making “kissy-faces” at each other, her words. And so tonight you were flying solo, Paimon opting to annoy Amber instead tonight as they tracked down some abyss mage or other.

You tried your best to hang around the bar, looking around the tavern to see if the object of your desire was anywhere around. You meandered for a few minutes, saying greetings to other bargoers that had recognized you, before approaching the bartender if Kaeya has been around

The bartender recognized you immediately. It was hard not to place one of the few new people in Mondstadt, especially one that was crushing much of the country's enemies. Diona had mentioned before that you were a friend of Diluc’s, often more than just a customer at the rival tavern. No, you were seen running around the city with the red-head at random times.

She said the worst thing you could have ever suspected.

“I think Kaeya has a hot date tonight.”

You felt a lump in your throat form, but tried to keep your response guarded. “Oh?”

The bartender continued, “Yeah, I’m not sure if it was Paula? Or Maggie tonight? But you know the captain - always changing up his escapades.”

“Right, of course.” You replied back, words coming out before you could even register it. Instead, you kept on nursing your drink, spiteful words from the bartender marinating in your mind.

Kaeya was mysterious, yes. But was he leading you on?

… Was it right of you to trust him?

The first red flag should have been the fact that you knew nearly nothing about him personally. To think that you had spent all this time together talking and fighting alongside one another, but you could not even recall basic facts about him, let alone anything deep. You were unaware of his family history - Diluc was his brother, but it was the red-head who ended up confiding that fact to you.

Kaeya was so charming that you hadn’t even noticed he shut you out of his world.

And so there was no point in actively keeping a one-sided friendship like that. From then forth, you resolved to avoid the Cavalry Captain for the time being. You knew you had to free Dvalin together, but that did not mean you had to swoon for him in your free time.

It was almost expected of you to join him on Friday nights at Angel’s Share, but tonight you were missing. Neither Charles nor Diluc had seen you the entire day. There were probably a hundred different things you were doing - gathering resources, fighting slimes - and so Kaeya thought little of it.

But he was still disappointed not to see your face that night.

And so he thought nothing was wrong the next day when he saw you in the city square, talking to someone at the general store. He approached you and offered to join your party again, take down some enemies somewhere out in the country.

You didn’t even smile at him.

Not this time.

Just a curt no before you were leaving out the city gates.

The second time Kaeya already had enough and confronted you before you could even attempt to walk away.

He grabbed at your elbow, “Have you finally grown tired of me?”

You pulled it back, no real strength behind it as Kaeya still held you under his grip. “Kaeya, why is it that you keep reaching out to me? I have nothing of my own to offer - no money, no family - there is nothing left I can give you.”

He frowned in response but grabbed at your other hand, “I haven’t asked you for anything, have I?”

You looked away, “You don’t have to! It’s inherent, after all. Isn’t that why you asked me to team-up in the first place, to use me to find your criminals?”

Kaeya mentally recoiled, “Woah, back up. I may have guided you regarding the treasure but never have I maliciously led you on.”

You pulled at your hands to no avail, this time the captain actively trying to keep your attention on him. 

“I just! I thought I meant something more to you, Kaeya.”

He smiled and tried to pull you into his chest, but you shoved off his touch this time fully.

“No! You can’t just hug me and think everything is okay. You’re supposed to be one of the good guys, one of the handful of people I can trust in Mondstadt and I know nothing about you.”

Kaeya did not reach for your hands, instead moving to stand in front of you. “I’m sorry that I hold my secrets close to my chest, but that’s what I’m used to.”

Frustrated, you replied. “Don’t you get tired? Holding the people that love you at an arm's length?”

“I’m sorry.” He repeated, this time reaching for you. “I’m sorry that I made you feel like you weren’t special. Trust me, you’re the only one I’ve had eyes on ever since you landed here in Mondstadt.”

You shook your head, “But the bartender, she said -”

“Who cares what she said?” Kaeya interrupted, “They know village gossip, but they don’t know me or you.”

“I don’t really know you.” You replied.

Kaeya caressed the side of your cheek before lightly gently grabbing your hand again, “Then let’s start.”

With a hesitant smile, you closed your eyes and nodded.

“Okay.”

You had your doubts then and it’s not like an issue of trust was fixed overnight. But, to his credit, Kaeya tried as best he could. Instead of meeting randomly at the bar, he would approach you sometime during the day and set-up a date. How he knew where you were was a mystery, but a man with that many connections surely had a way.

He had no qualms about holding your hand or openly kissing your cheek in the presence of others - proclaiming loudly to one and all in Mondstadt that you were his and he was yours.

Taking your first argument to heart, Kaeya was very keen on communication. Anything you were unsure of, he expressed that he was by no means rushing you. And when you finally shared your first kiss, for once not a single soul in front of the Lord Barbatos statue, you leaned into his touch to get many more.

Kaeya made good on his promise, slowly letting you into his world in kind. You remembered one night as the both of you sat on the edge of Mondstadt, nothing but ocean for miles in front of you. You had your head on his shoulder, describing your adventures with your brother and how you missed having family.  

Kaeya had a gentle hand in your hair, rubbing soothing circles as you recalled a time long ago. Once your story finished, you two continued to stare out, wondering what the future could hold as your minds swam in an endless sea of thoughts.

He broke the silence.

“I miss my brother also.”

Diluc was not always his estranged brother, but once a friend, supporter, and sounding board. Some even mistook them as truly twins in heart and mind, defending Mondstadt and having each other’s backs for years. The Diluc you had come to know was a shell of his old self, close friends and past hidden behind years of repressed feelings.

There was no doubt wistfulness in Kaeya’s eyes as he recalled the past to you, but you continued to listen quietly. 

Your relationship with the Cavalry Captain was hardly easy. Often responsibilities called you both - Kaeya was highly stationed in Mondstadt while you still had seven other countries to visit. But that did not mean the end for you both. Even when you were thousands of miles away or sat atop the highest mountain without a clue to where he was, you cherished the thought that you still shared the same sky with the love of your life.

No matter where you were in Teyvat, you had Kaeya to return to.
