Being their significant other, Pandora Hearts and Vanitas no Carte edition

Featuring Vanitas, Gilbert, Xerxes and Oswald.

Type: mostly fluff, a bit of angst though.

Warnings: spoilers for Pandora Hearts of course, men that need some therapy but they don't have it in their time period, mentions of hickeys and biting on Vanitas' part because he is a masochist, Oswald part is pretty sad but that's fine if you love him you love crying. Also writer that is bad at writing.

Author note: I wrote this because my best friend is having a rough time recently, so I thought I'd cheer her up with some headcanons that I will show her through screenshots because I can't allow anyone to find my Tumblr, it's bad enough my sister has it. Normal people encourage eachother, I give xReader content.

Vanitas

You're a real masochist to fall for him. But he's one too so...

He has commitment and attachment issues, how did you manage to get in a relationship with him? No seriously, how the fu-

On a second thought I'm not sure I want to know, but you did it and that's what matters.

You read it right. You did it.

Because I refuse to believe he would take the first step into seriously committing to something aside from his goal. But he can't really say no if you're the one bringing it up, you know what you're getting into after all.

What comes next?

Oh right, dating!

He knows the basics on how to act like he cares, the problem comes when he actually cares. He doesn't really know what to do with himself so he tries to go along with the traditional ways, but probably ends up with impostor syndrome because come on it's Vanitas we're talking about.

Please reassure him it's alright and that you are willing to talk about it.

Aside from this initial problems.

He isn't a cuddler. He doesn't really get what the point of cuddling is.

But please hold him when he's sleeping or resting.

He's the "I'm a knife!" person but he is actually the little spoon.

He likes nuzzling his face against your neck. Also he's like a cat, once he is resting on top of you you're obliged to stay still until he gets up.

Also bite him. Give him hickeys on his neck. It's alright if you hurt him, he likes it.

He'll probably bite you back.

Not big on pet names, maybe the classic "darling" here and there, but mostly he prefers to use your name.

Jealous? Him? The man that can't believe someone would love him? Yes dear, he is.

But he isn't possessive. He hates himself so much that even though he gets jealous as fuck he won't act on it. Maybe he'll sulk in a corner or press his face against your chest, kinda unaware he looks a bit possessive. Or is he?

He's a complicated guy and a relationship with him would require one hell of a effort.

Because he is a fucking rat (as in small and looks like he just came out of a sewer and doesn't really know what is going on but is just filled with chaotic energy).

But he is your rat.

And he loves you.

Little bonus: Vanitas is a package deal, if you get with him you also get his """family""" that will do everything in their power to protect you because they either want Vanitas to be happy (Roland and Noè) or they're worried as to what could Vanitas do if something ever happened to you (the Damps, also Roland and Noè).

Gilbert

He took the initiative to confess.

I mean, he tried.

No but I swear he wanted to say it first.

He just got really flustered and started stuttering and not making much sense.

But you got the message.

He doesn't know a thing about dating though. Please stop him from asking advice to Oz or Xerxes because those little shits (affectionately) will do everything they can to make fun of him.

It will be fun though because he will experiment a bit to understand what he likes and what he doesn't.

He likes cuddles (of course he does, such a touch starved mf).

He loves it when you play with his hair. Just laying down, his head on your lap and your hands in his hair. He can and will fall asleep like that.

Likes to hold you at night. Maybe is the fear of abandonment, but he really needs to feel you in some way when falling asleep and waking up. Even just having your hands touching is fine, but holding you is the best.

Really flustered if you give him hickeys. Will hide them out of embarrassment, also because Oz and Xerxes won't stop teasing him about them.

Gets jealous easily, and once you're in a relationship he will get mildly possessive.

When out together he will hold you hand and always stay by your side. If someone flirts with you Gil will give them a death glare and keep an arm around your waist, then ask you if that person is bothering you.

And will call you by pet names. He prefers your name, but when he feels like he should clarify your relationship status with others he'll call you "dear", "darling", maybe even "love". But he will get flustered about it afterwards, please don't tease him about it. Or do it, your choice.

He's just a bit insecure but he really loves you and wants things with you to work out, so he will put a big effort in this too.

Little bonus: with him, you also gain an enemy/friend, which is Vincent. He either adores you because you care for his big brother and love him, or he hates you because you're taking his big brother from him. Probably swings between the two, depending on the situation and his mood. He won't harm you though, he doesn't want to hurt Gilbert's feelings.

Xerxes

Oh dear you're in for a treat.

Yeah no he tells you right away that he likes you. Probably starts by joking around with you until he can't take it anymore and confesses in the most serious way possible for him.

He leads you through it. Does he have a lot of experience? Not really, but he can guess how things work and he learns quickly and so he takes the initiative in most of the fields.

Pet him. Like whenever he does something good just tell him "Well done" and give him head pats. He loves it and will come looking for you whenever he comes back from a mission or he does some paperwork just for the praises. It's not that he is touch starved and insecure (not as much as you might think because of this behaviour at least) but he likes this kind of "games" with you, where he plays the innocent and cute puppy.

Which he is not.

He kisses you a lot, especially when in public, just to make you flustered. Also teases you about everything.

If you have to walk somewhere together he'll just grab your arm or hand and run, dragging you with him. This mf (affectionately).

Gets easily jealous. Like very easily. If he catches you talking to other members of Pandora for too long he'll throw himself at you (like literally he'll jump at you and grab you like a baby koala) and ask if you still love him loud and clear in front of whoever you were talking to. He knows you do btw. He just likes the drama. Bonus if you're too small or weak to hold him up and so you both fall to the ground, he will keep you on top of him though so you don't get hurt.

He loves weird, unusual or very very sweet pet names in public. You see, half of the fun of this relationship with him is he teasing and annoying you. He will call you "Pudding" during a Pandora meeting, just know he will.

But when you two are alone he kinda melts. You know he wants some real quality time together when he starts calling you by your name.

Overall he's a menace. But... he is your menace (yes that is something he said more than once when anyone mentioned your relationship with him).

Oswald

Oh hell what the actual fuck.

I'm sorry.

He is a good guy don't get me wrong, but he is really focused on his work and his role.

He won't initiate a relationship with you unless you're very insisting. He knows that once he becomes "Glen" he might change and is afraid of hurting your feelings.

But let's be honest Lacie would totally be your wingman, she loves her brother and wants someone who loves him to look after him once she's sent to the Abyss.

So your relationship starts, and let me tell you this is an angsty one.

Because he cherishes every moment he has with you as himself.

He is very intense in every part of your relationship and every moment spent with him becomes a precious memory to the both of you.

He might not be very cuddly, but if you run your fingers through his hair... that might become one of his favourite things.

You can do it randomly during the day he's not shy.

Also he doesn't get jealous, ever. If you're willing to stay with him even though he is supposed to become the next Glen he figured that other people have zero chances with you.

Possessive? Not really either. The most possessive thing he might do is kissing you on the cheek when he greets you in front of others, and even then it's more about showing his love to you rather than showing others that you're his.

Not really a fan of pet names honestly. He likes your name. He might occasionally call you "love", but that's pretty much it. It's understandable for him to prefer people's actual names though :')

After becoming Glen and Lacie's death he will become more distant. Just know that. Everyone copes with pain on different ways, that's how he copes with his. But if you keep staying by his side he'll just warm up to you again, and this time he won't leave your side. Not intentionally that is.

Yes this relationship is the type that will leave you in tears but in the end it was worth it all and you both know it.

No worries! I like Leo but I don’t think I could write him well because we don’t spend much time with him in the manga. But I’m happy to do Gil and Break! Break took a lot more reading than I thought but here are the head cannons!

Requests still open! Might take some time with the spring semester starting but I will do my best.

Gil and Break as S/o hcs

Gil

Man absolutely loves you! He gets too flustered most of the time to tell you but when he does it’s stunning!

He likes home dates because he’s the private type but a cafe is nice sometimes

Oz teases both of you but drags Alice out and takes he shopping with Oscar to give you’d guys alone time.

Gil is an amazing cook! He asks you to try new recipes and often surprises you with breakfast in bed. Or lunch on the couch if you can’t eat right away in the morning

He’s the little spoon most of the time. Unless you want to switch with him but he prefers being the little spoon.

Daydreams if he has to be apart from you sometimes. And if you surprise him be prepared for an adorable sight of him blushing and smiling but also Gilbert.exe has stopped working

Often wonders why you like him even if he hasn’t remembered his past yet.

He warns you about Vincent and tries to keep you from being alone with his little brother

Break

Oh boy. He’s very lucky you love him! He will respect if you don’t want him stealing your food. (Neither him or Gil would ever cross boundaries on purpose)

Does his appearing from who knows where and leaves from anywhere but the door.

Keeps your favorite candy in hand at all times! He’s the big spoon like 90% of the time

Date nights are random but he does tell you in advance. He just has no schedule for them and often uses it as a way to procrastinate on work

Reim thanks you for keeping him busy. Seriously he thinks you’re a god send. Reim can finally sleep lol

Break still acts reckless but hates worrying you. Also scared of Sharon teaching you how the Reinsworth family is so scary.

Overall he’s very eccentric yet caring! He’s happy to have found you and you make his day!

Touch and Affection Headcanons (Oz, Gilbert, Break, Elliot)

aide-mémoire: Miscellaneous physical touch headcanons with an s/o for Oz Vessalius, Gilbert Nightray, Xerxes Break, and Elliot Nightray.

Oz Vessalius

Has pulled the 'ask for a kiss on the cheek then turn your head last moment so your lips meet' trick on you at least once— or more, if it took you a while to catch on that he's usually never up to any good.

It's a lighthearted way he gets you to smile, even if only because of how silly it is. Resting his head on your lap is one of Oz’s favorite things, and if you’re sitting still, he’ll probably try to weasel his way there. Bonus points if you play with his hair too while he’s laying down; if you want, he'll even be fair and stroke yours afterward.

Gilbert Nightray

A particular occurrence Gil enjoys: if you grip his arm when the two of you cross the road or step out a carriage. Such a minor thing makes him feel... needed. And Gil has always been the kind of person who needs to be needed.

In truth, Gilbert has a soft spot for small, everyday moments of intimacy— you taking his coat when he comes home, your hands on his shoulders while he's taking off his shoes, the way you touch his side as you pass him in the kitchen, or dinner together as the even sets in. It doesn’t have to be extravagant for him to be appreciative.

Xerxes Break

Break is one of those people who tend to feel cold to the touch, even in instances where the room isn't particularly chilly. Will he find amusement in putting his cold feet on you if you both are sharing a bed? More than likely.

While he has few qualms with intruding on your personal space, Break does see value in having space of his own. That doesn't mean he has no interest in cuddling up with you or being close; just that he doesn't have a strong desire to be constantly joined at the hip to his significant other— unless it's to tease you, of course.

Elliot Nightray

Though he’s too stubborn to admit it, Elliot enjoys having you around while he plays the piano. It certainly helps if you play too (the two of you can do a duet), but if not, you can convince him to teach you.

He’s not the smoothest teacher: there will be a lot of his hands on top of yours as he moves your fingers back onto the correct keys (for his sake, don’t point out how red his face is). If you neither play or wish to learn, that’s fine too. Just come and sit beside him on the bench and lie your head on his shoulder. If you’re stealthy enough, you’ll likely be able to catch his smile.

XERXES BREAK

How I feel about this character:

I love Break! Though I will say that I think I love him a little bit less than the rest of the fandom. He's a very cool character, but in my opinion, he's one of the more trope-y ones...if that makes sense. Basically, I'm saying that I've definitely seen very similar characters all over anime/manga. But as with most PandoraHearts characters, he's unusually well-written and extremely well-done overall, so all his moments are super enjoyable!

All the people I ship romantically with this character:

Hmm. I used to think about shipping in PandoraHearts more often when I was younger (I first read the manga when I wasn't even a teenager yet). I definitely shipped Reim with Break, and I still think this would be cute. Their dynamic can get very fun and almost tsundere-like at times (lol)!

I used to ship Sharon with Break too, but though I still think their dynamic is cute, I know this makes some people quite uncomfortable. I also know that their relationship was canonically intended to be more familial, and that Break was canonically in love with Sharon's mother, Shelly. So do with that what you will.

My non-romantic OTP for this character:

Honestly, Reim and Sharon could work for this question too?? They're the characters whose relationships with Break are the most meaningful to me. So yeah, I guess them again.

My unpopular opinion about this character:

I'm not sure I have any super unpopular opinions about Break. Maybe just that I don't find him as interesting as a lot of other characters in the manga? I felt I was sort of able to predict the direction Jun Mochizuki went with his character/story, whereas this wasn't the case with a lot of the others in the main cast.

One thing I wish would happen/had happened with this character in canon:

Oof, this is a tough one too...I just wish there were more scenes expanding Break's relationship with Shelly.

OZ VESSALIUS

How I feel about this character:

LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE. MY BABY. MY BOY. Everybody who knows me is aware of this LMAO! Shut up about Oz Vessalius, they say. NO, I say.

In all seriousness, Oz is my favorite character of all time. I love PandoraHearts dearly for more reasons than I can say, but he is really part of what makes the manga for me. His character resonated so powerfully with me when I first read it and continues to do so to this day. He is such a nuanced, emotional, human character.

I always say PandoraHearts saved my life, but more specifically, Oz saved my life. He was so painfully similar to me when I first read the manga. I was going through a very difficult period of my life. Watching him become somebody who could believe in and accept love from those around him, as well as somebody who could come to love himself, was incredibly inspiring. He became a sort of role model, if you will--though it’s more complicated than that.

I am happy to say that today, I am more like the Oz at the end of the manga than I am like the Oz at the beginning of the manga.

All the people I ship romantically with this character:

I’m going to be completely honest with you guys: when I was a kid, I was a passionate Oz x Gilbert shipper. I know that nowadays, people are extremely uncomfortable with this (and understandably so). Outside of this, I really wouldn’t say I ship Oz romantically with anybody, except for maybe Echo?

I can’t fully get behind Oz and Echo as a couple for some reason, but if Oz needs to be with somebody, I think it should probably be her. The way they helped each other see themselves as human, the way they developed such an intense and intimate respect for one another...it’s very touching.

My non-romantic OTP for this character:

Oz and Gilbert, probably. Their relationship is insanely dedicated and resilient. Though they are “connected by their darkness,” as Gilbert says, they are a source of hope for one another throughout the manga. I think this is beautiful.

Oz and Alice could also count for one of these. I really don’t like Oz and Alice’s dynamic when seen through a romantic perspective, and I’m only able to truly appreciate their relationship when viewing it as platonic. I will say that due to slightly conflicting feelings about Alice’s character, I would prioritize Oz and Gilbert over her and Oz.

My unpopular opinion with this character:

I’m not sure I have one. I don’t think loving Oz is that uncommon of an opinion, lol.

One thing I wish would happen/had happened with this character in canon:

Hmm, I don’t know about this one, either...I think Oz’s story is very nearly perfect. I guess...I wish the manga had more directly addressed the toxic aspects of Oz, Alice, and Gilbert’s relationship?

Early in the manga, the trio’s relationship manifests in rather unhealthy ways. As they grow as people and learn to cope with their pasts, their relationship gradually becomes much healthier. Though this is certainly realistic, the manga never really tackles this concept head-on, instead just showing us the trio’s relationship in a more positive light later on.

New years with the PH Characters Part 1

Oz: So excited! He loves the new year and will stay up til midnight for the count down. He tries to get Gil and Alice to stay up. He stays up while almost everyone is passed out or went to bed. You and him have fun watching the countdown ball drop and climb to the roof of the Vessalius Mansion to watch fireworks!

Alice: Still hasn’t gotten all her memories but loves new year in the 21st century. She will get as much meat as she can eat! She’ll offer to share some with you and is so excited to do the 12 grapes thing. You might not want to swallow a grape whole and Alice is okay with that! She managed to do it successfully and falls asleep just after the count down finishes.

Gil: He got tired at 10 pm and went to bed after setting an alarm. He has his third cup of coffee that day and asks if you want some. Alice and Oz have been spun up and excited all day and trying to get him to join in. He likes the food but would prefer if people didn’t scream at midnight. Will watch the fireworks with you if you want to but don’t be surprised when he falls asleep. Poor man startles awake at the end! Will sleep the whole next day and the kitchen is only safe cos you helped Alice and Oz make food or were nearby incase they accidently started a fire.

Sharon: She’s so happy but you’d never know it. Like she has a special tea and everything. Will let herself express her excitement only to blush afterwards. Loves to make resolutions with you and wants to celebrate. She probably has a romance novel for the occasion

Break: Eats. So. Much. Sugar. You have to stop him from buying out a candy store as he ends up getting over $500 worth anyways. Will eat as much of it as he can before midnight. He discovered energy drinks with you too. You don’t want him to have them again but then he tells you they did nothing to him and he was just playing around.

Reim: He enjoys small and quiet gatherings. Break tried to get the two of you to go to the loudest party in town but stopped once Reim reminded him he has to do the work for two people cos someone (Break) is giving all his work to Reim. Ends up having fun with you and taking a one hour nap before going to work after the clock strikes 12. Did not stop until Duke Barma forced him to take one day off. Chose to spend it with you and asked what you’d like to do.
