Leona's post is here.
Her YT video is here.
Please spread Leona's story, and her evidence, as much as you can. She has a mountain of evidence proving Bethesda/Zenimax a hostile work environment for trans women, and she deserves to be heard and to receive justice for being forced out of her job.
Edit: If you are anti-trans and are reblogging this post, please know you look fucking stupid. Your ideology is pathetic and weak. You are so fragile the thought of people existing in ways you don't personally approve of causes you distress. Your only outlets for expression are crytyping into an echo chamber just as weak and pathetic as you. You aren't proving anything by reblogging this post with prejudice. The literal only thing you are doing is engaging in cruelty that makes you feel better emotionally, because you're all so immature you rely on taking out your feelings on other people rather than do so in a constructive, adult manner. There is nothing revolutionary about any of you people. You are, truly, a population of some of the saddest people on the planet. The people who do not view you with hatred view you with pity, because those are the only feelings you could ever inspire.

...In the suit, Faren asserts that she signed a severance agreement with ZeniMax, which stipulated that they’d provide her COBRA coverage (18 months of healthcare coverage after leaving the job) on the condition that she not file a discrimination lawsuit. This was allegedly after a year of transphobic aggressions in her workplace after she came out (which the company seems to admit, if they’ve asked her not to file a discrimination suit). Oh, and she says she was pressured to come out because her supervisor outed her on Slack during a meeting before she could talk to the team herself. Faren documented all of this through screenshots, recorded phone calls, and more. However, all of that isn’t even what the lawsuit is about. The suit is about what came next. ...
“In mid-June, Ms. Faren confirmed with Blue Cross and Blue Shield that she was still covered under the plan and scheduled her surgeries to take place in July. However, the coverage was retroactively terminated after the surgeries took place, leaving Plaintiff with hospital and doctor’s bills. Ms. Faren continued to be without health insurance until September 25, 2022, resulting in high priced prescription drug payments, as well as physician and hospital bills, many of which she was not aware of for months following services. ..." Even the most well-intentioned human resources departments don’t actually exist to help employees. They exist to protect the company from getting sued. That’s their main function. In Faren’s case, that happened in a straightforward way when her health coverage was held hostage so she wouldn’t file a discrimination lawsuit. But HR departments do this in more subtle ways, too. ...

People discussing Starfield's (and Bethesda in general) writing being complete soulless toilet water need to understand the source: Emil Pagliarulo has been writing the main story and plot of each release since Fallout 3. New Vegas being the exception, of course. He is behind "Go find your dad. It's the Lone Wanderer's destiny to die in a radiation chamber despite having radiation immune companions next to him. It's poetry." Or the classic, riveting experience of being a pre war parent for 10 agonizing, boring minutes before the game starts and said parent perspective experiences the main quest fly apart as it grinds closer to the trite conclusion. The wrecking of the Super Mutants into irradiated Orcs, making the Enclave goofy stormtroopers, having a story around dragonslaying and civil war be boring, the utter wasted potential of Synths, and whatever the fuck happens in Starfield that takes 100 hours to get going...
It's this asshole. And Todd. This fucking artless, uninteresting hack who has taken the weird and wonderful worlds of Elder Scrolls and Fallout and reduces them to corporate spew.
Kick Todd and Emil out, bury the Creation Engine in the dirt and hire Josh Sawyer and John Gonzalez to write your games. Bethesda leadership is fat and happy with increasingly watered down, wide as an ocean, deep as a mud puddle, tripe. Meanwhile Elden Ring, Witcher 3, and now Baldur's Gate are blowing them out of the water.
"You're gonna give this book to the player and what are they gonna do with it? They are gonna rip out the pages and make paper airplanes with them." Emil at a Game Development seminar
My brother in Christ. You made the book.

A supermajority of quality assurance workers at Microsoft’s ZeniMax Studios have indicated that they wish to join ZeniMax Workers United/CWA either by signing a union authorization card or voting via an online portal. In accordance with its stated labor principles, Microsoft has recognized the union.
ZeniMax is a video game production company with studios in Maryland and Texas known for its popular games such as Elder Scrolls, DOOM, Quake Champions, and Fallout. ZeniMax Workers United/CWA is the first studio at Microsoft to secure union representation, and the largest group of union-represented Quality Assurance testers at any U.S. game studio. [...]
Unlike other video game and tech corporations, Microsoft made a public commitment around its labor principles which included respecting its employees’ right to form a union. When ZeniMax employees announced that they were organizing a union in December, Microsoft agreed to remain neutral and allow workers to make their own decision about whether or not to join the union. The company swiftly recognized ZeniMax Workers United/CWA after a neutral third party confirmed that a majority of workers favored joining the union. [...]
"It's difficult to express in words just how much winning our union matters to us. We've been working so hard to get here that it would be impossible not to be excited. We know this is not the end of our hard work, but reaching this milestone gives us faith that when workers stand together, we can accomplish anything we set our minds to," said Dylan Burton, Senior QA Tester, Dallas.
Zenimax Workers United/CWA joins the wave of game and tech workers at Activision, Alphabet, Apple, and dozens of other companies who have organized with CODE-CWA to build a better workplace.

On Thursday morning, before my first sip of coffee, the alerts started flooding my phone. My employer, Microsoft, was laying off 1,900 workers and it was all over the news. I work at the video game company ZeniMax, which was acquired in 2021 by Microsoft, so I felt a familiar, sickening feeling start to take hold. But I can’t say it came as a surprise. So many people in our industry have lost their jobs this way recently. In 2023, at least 6,500 video game workers were laid off (unofficial trackers have that number much higher). And even before this latest round, 2024 hadn’t shown any sign of improvement. The video game industry is huge. It was bigger than the movie and music industries combined following the 2020 pandemic surge, and while it has dropped a bit since then, it remains a multibillion-dollar industry. However, it’s still relatively young and lacks a history of successful worker organizing.

There is a massive black hole in terms of credited TES art and its almost everything done by Matthew Carofano.
He's basically been an artist/art director for Bethesda for 20+ years and yet we have almost no public works which are credited to him exclusively.
Even if its just sketches, ideas, corrections etc., there must be a massive trove of his contributions from over the years which remains unpublished.
Its likely in his personal archive or in Bethesda's, and it aches just thinking how there's a chance it'll never see the light of day.
I know part of his job is overseeing other artists and general artistic direction for the games, and maybe he doesn't want to take credit for the work of the artists he's been in charge of, but it still baffles me that Bethesda hasn't published even a sampler of his work so the fandom can appreciate how much he's done.
Bethesda, he deserves the praise! Please let us see more of what Matt has done for your games!

Amazing! ZeniMax Online Studios have just honored the passionate fanartists they stole designs from without permission by naming characters in the Elder Scrolls universe after them! LadyNerevar, the artist whose design for Queen Alessia was appropriated in the Greymoor DLC, has been immortalized through the character of Indoril Nerevar, Hortator and peacekeeper of the First Council of Morrowind! In a more subtle tribute, the artist whose Sotha Sil design was used for the Crown Store's Mercymother tattoo set relan-daevath's name was altered to create Brelan Neloren, an NPC in the Elder Scrolls Online: Morrowind DLC! We tip our hats to ZeniMax for their commitment to making amends, and congratulate these artists for having their names forever etched into the Elder Scrolls!

Every now and then I think about the amazing artistic power and potential of games like Dishonored and Disco Elysium and rekindle just an incredible hatred for the corporate managerial class and how they will just destroy artists & studios (and their chance to develop their artistic potential) for incredibly shortsighted & short term profit.
Business-wise, it’s almost always a fatal mistake in the long term, but on a human level it is just profoundly cruel, cynical and callous. Capitalist incentives lead to countless acts of violence and destruction, but the way the managerial class of the entertainment industry shows contempt for the people that actually create their source of revenue will never cease to infuriate me.
This is why the entire economic system needs to be overhauled. It’s the incentive structures themselves that are irreparable. The growth model, the profit motive and the existence of shareholders combined invariably generate systems where the most destructive option will be seen as the most profitable one. Capitalism is a death cult. It must be destroyed or it will destroy everything.

It's just a simple video about a videogame, like any other videogame video. Totally not about Zenimax and Bethesda being horrible to an employee. Not at all.

To me.
Todd Howard doesn’t exist as a person.
But rather as a vague, nebulous, omniscient concept.
One what can manifest as a man, for sure. Yes.
But it’s more akin to an idea or strange being given temporary corporeal form.
Todd in the Howard.

Re: Mick Gordon, Marty Stratton, Doom Eternal OST
I want to start off by saying that absolutely none of this should have happened. I mean, obviously.
I’m not going to break the entire article down but please be sure to read here: https://medium.com/@mickgordon/my-full-statement-regarding-doom-eternal-5f98266b27ce 1. much of the first couple of sections just highlights the issues the AAA part of the gaming industry has as a whole, therefore unionization is important. 2. know consumer protection laws, whether you’re a subcontractor or not- or seek legal counsel if you are able. this is not to blame Mick for this piece, this was still Marty’s responsibility to communicate those deadlines clearly, but when working in AAA the game is different. 3. volunteering a contractor before a contract is written is absolutely ghoulish behavior on id’s part. 4. a few people will likely ask “why didn’t Mick complain about not getting paid sooner” and as an accountant, I can tell you that if you’re trying to get work out the door on insane deadlines, you’re going to either forget to invoice things or if on contract, you shouldn’t have to fucking worry about that? contracts are there for a reason and id knew the agreement, it should not be an employee or subcontractor’s job to remind their employer to pay them. dunno how accounting works in the AAA industry but it would never fly where I work. 5. Marty posting his statement on REDDIT as the original source is awful behavior and completely unprofessional. Not even on a company-run Reddit, but a Reddit run and moderated by volunteers (r/Doom) whom ultimately should have never been dragged into this issue. Since Mick’s statement, mods have been harassed and have quit moderating. I know some of the mods and they absolutely do not deserve this treatment. I imagine being told by the executive producer of the game you love that if you take his post down you’ll likely be threatened with legal action would not be a great situation to be in. 6. The lawyers at Zenimax sound like they’d have been great on Theranos’s team (hint, not a good thing). some other thoughts: - from how it sounds, id needs to be clearly communicating to Bethesda/Zenimax its legal needs because it cannot handle them on its own. - Marty should never produce a game again. or if he does, he needs to be kept a mile away from press because he cannot be trusted to handle it safely. - I hope Mick finally gets the compensation he deserves. Musicians are just as much contractors as they are creators, especially in circumstances where they are being told they need to create music for levels that haven’t even been conceptualized yet. Musicians should be paid for the hours they spend formulating as well as the songs they ultimately produce. - the harassment of the creator of an OST is absolutely disgusting and gamer entitlement needs to be addressed. fuck anyone who engaged in the behavior described. - Review bombing on Steam will not fix this issue. harassment of anyone involved will not fix this issue. frank discussions about how creators of all kinds in the industry will.
