Rewrite the Stars Series
Book 1: “Beauty and the Beast”
A few weeks after the battle of NY, the original 6 are adjusting to life as Avengers. Approaches in how to become a team differ; Steve and Tony clash, Thor finds a balance between his Asgardian duties all while Bruce Banner and Natasha Romanoff develop a friendship turned romance and confront each others inner demons.
Book 2: “Moon River”
One year after the events of Beauty and the Beast, the team crosses paths with a certain army General from New Mexico with a vendetta and a trouble-making Ivan Petrovich. Bruce and Natasha work to find the normal in an abnormal relationship.
Book 3: “Tightrope”
A mission in Italy leads to another in Russia, separating the newly married Natasha Romanoff and Bruce Banner. Various twists and turns force the couple to look after a few highly sought after meta orphans. Tony and Pepper welcome their baby, Antonia Vivian Stark while Thor and Jane handle their own unexpected surprise. Clint decides it’s time to man up.
Book 4: 525,600 Minutes
The original 6 are mentoring, training, and trying to find homes for a bunch of meta orphans. Jennifer Walters begins to suspect that her daughter, a trouble making Lucile Jameson, might have abilities and sends her to Bruce to be trained. Fury goes missing and SHIELD experiences a change in command just as Natasha Romanoff discovers she’s dying due to her prolonged exposure to gamma radiation. Her potential cure requires the assistance of meta orphan, Izabella Mikhailov as well as someone both Natasha (and the Hulk) don’t seem to think very highly of...Elizabeth Ross 2.0.
Book 5: “Wicked”
Six years pass and the world is in chaos. The original team bury Bruce and Natasha (who are secretly helping Thor run things in Asgard and keep Loki behind bars,) after HYDRA’s attack. Back on Earth, the rest of the Avengers are being watched, tracked, and hunted down one by one. When the majority decide to go their separate ways, Maria Hill reluctantly makes the decision to send her adopted daughter Riley Park-Proctor-Hill out on her first big assignment; to get Thor’s and thus Asgard’s help. She and her fellow metas Garrett Barton, Lucile Jameson, Antonia Stark, Izabella and her brother Brody Mikhailov, along with a few stragglers all must figure out what it means to be a team - more specifically, Avengers.

Left Behind In Expired Moments - Natasha Romanoff x Betty Ross
Was I the only one picking up on that “we used to sleep together” tension between Natasha and Betty in this week’s "What If" episode or am I just really gay?
Word Count: 872
Warnings: Mention of Alcohol, Small Allusion to Sex
Dr. Betty Ross catches a glimpse of red hair and freezes. She’s put physical distance between herself and S.H.I.E.L.D. for many reasons; she doesn’t know how to handle one of those reasons slowly snaking up to her with that unwavering stare.
And Romanoff thrives off of the way her entire body tenses, she just knows it. Betty crosses her arms across her chest, feeling disgustingly small as she takes a small step back, pretends not to know that Natasha’s nonchalance and heavy husk are just projected overcompensations for the way her ever observant eyes soften so slightly at Betty’s discomfort.
Betty has every intention of turning her back on the agent - god knows she has the practice - but damn that woman knows just what to say, every time, to pull her in, except no, it’s really just those damn eyes again. And Betty is so many things, including a researcher, and if there’s one specimens she’s studied too arduously, it’s Natasha Romanoff, and behind all the projections and compensations and mechanisms, Betty recognizes the tiny waver in her self-sure voice, knows that Natasha is more out of her depths than she cares to admit. She can see the way Natasha’s scared.
And if there’s something out there that can scare Romanoff, then Betty knows that she should be terrified.
So that’s how she ends up with the Black Widow - her former co-worker and former other things she’s trying hard not to relive - in her not-truly-empty office. She tells herself that her heart’s pounding because Bruce is hiding in the closet. It’s absolutely not the way Natasha hovers closely by her shoulder as they examine the syringe, warm breath tickling the space behind her ear, because there is no way this woman can still have that effect on her.
Betty schools herself, as if Natasha isn’t fluent in her body language, and asserts her findings. The room falls quiet for a moment as Natasha processes, and Betty could put distance between them, but she doesn’t. It’s difficult to stay in the moment, the familiarity of the spy’s presence pulling her into memories - late nights at S.H.I.E.L.D. and one drink turning to too many drinks and backs pressed against disheveled lab tables and calloused fingertips against her heated skin and deleted security footage the next morning followed by broken promises of “never again.”
Her name on Natasha’s lips also feels like a memory but it jolts her back to the present. Betty looks up expecting to meet a practiced nonchalant stare that she has to distill and interpret. Instead she sees genuineness and gentleness in a green gaze.
“How have you been holding up?”
Betty tries to balk at the sincerity but melts into it, even as she manages a dismissive bite to her shaky words.
“Since when have you ever worried about me other than what you could get from me?”
Natasha breathes out a sigh; Betty can feel it across her cheek and the chills that crawl up her spine along with it. In that moment, she really sees just how tired Natasha looks. Not just from the past couple of days, but the decades of exhaustion heaped upon itself, revealing the cracks in the Russian’s carefully crafted exterior and Betty is fighting against memories again and those fabricated moments where she thought she’d been granted a glimpse into Natasha’s truth, only to be left cold the mornings after.
“I’ve always cared,” Natasha admits in a murmur, eyes pleading quietly. “Just never been good at showing it.”
Betty means to scoff, but it comes out as a strangled breath as Natasha shifts closer. Her hand gently takes the syringe from Ross’s, lets it rest on the table before those deadly finger caress so achingly soft against her trembling knuckles.
“You were better off without me sticking around.”
Betty shakes her head.
“No. I would’ve been better off without ever knowing you.”
“Well it’s too late for that now, isn’t it?”
Each word eviscerates what’s left of the distance between them as Natasha’s chest brushes against hers and she sees nothing but green eyes and all that flashes through them; there’s no vitriol, no bitterness. Just exhaustion and remorse and want. Natasha’s fingers still crawl along hers, and Betty’s a cellular biologist, so well-acquainted with the way humans are made up, how they hurt and how they heal - she just wants to fix Natasha, just like she thought she could all those years ago.
She just wants to kiss her.
But then Natasha’s eyes are off hers, flitting past her shoulders to the baseball caps and pizza boxes piled on the table before she’s pulling away quickly towards the closet Bruce is hiding in (oh fuck, Betty had forgotten about Bruce; had he heard everything?), and things are barreling forward out of Betty’s control because of course it’s always mission first with Romanoff. Not that Betty can blame her, at least not right now, but she’s still stuck in the moment.
And that’s the thing when it comes to Natasha. Betty is always left behind in expired moments by a woman so long gone, it’s like she was never there to begin with.

“How’d the two of you meet?” A reporter asks, as flashes of camera lights go off all around the couple. Evelyn turns her face into Steve’s side, attempting to shield her eyes.
“We met when we were kids, back in Brooklyn.” Steve says, smiling down at Evelyn.
“Now, that’s not the whole story, now is it?” Evelyn murmurs, grinning.
“Well we can’t tell the country all of our secrets, now can we?” Steve laughs.
“Don’t you think the public deserves to know what sort of rebel rouser you are?” Evelyn asks, smiling.
“Fine.” Steve chuckles. “It all started one cold winter day, we were around ten years old……”
***
“Stop!” Evelyn cries, as she was pelted by snow balls.
“She said stop!” A small boy yells as he goes barreling past Evelyn, hands flying as he his launches himself at the kids who were pelting Evelyn with the snow.
“Steve!” Another boy yells, moving to pull Steve off of the other kids.
“Why don’t you pick on somebody your own size, why don’t’cha?” Steve yells, shaking his fist.
“You’re shorter than me.” Evelyn whispers as she grins at her savior.
“That’s not tha point!” Steve says. “Let me at’em, Buck!”
“No.” Buck says, shaking his head. As he starts to pull Steve down the street. “You comin’?”
“Yes.” Evelyn whispers as she scampers after the boys.
“I’m Steve, and this is Bucky.”
“I’m Evelyn Mae.”
“We were gonna go play dominos. Do ya wanna come?” Steve asks.
“I love dominos!” Evelyn squeals, grabbing Steve’s hand.
“Great!” Steve says. “Bucky’s got a whole set!”
“Wow! A whole set? How’d ya get that?” Evelyn asks, turning towards Bucky.
“It was a birthday present.” Bucky says. “Do you need to go tell your ma?”
“Nah.” Evelyn says, shaking her head, her brown curls bouncing as she does. “As long as I’m back home before the street lights are on she won’t be mad.”
“What other games do you like?” Steve asks, as the two of them walk down the side walk, towards Evelyn’s apartment building.
“My uncle gave me a yoyo last year!” Evelyn says. “It’s a lotta fun! Have you ever played with one?”
“No!” Steve says.
“Maybe we can play together tomorrow too! Then I can bring my yoyo and you can try it out!” Evelyn says smiling.
“That sounds fun!” Bucky says.
“Do you two wanna be my friends?” Evelyn asks, blushing a bit.
“Yes!” Steve says, bouncing in excitement. “Let’s all be best friends!”
“Okay!” Evelyn says, smiling widely at her two best friends.

Tumblr media
It’d been raining for five days since they came. I’ve been able to talk to Ollie through closed windows by writing on paper. Mom took my phone because Fury told her to, because they don’t want me talking to Ollie. They think we’re going to make an elaborate plan to escape. I know they’re unaware of how smart I am, that being not as smart as they think I am. I’m not smart like Tony Stark, who resides at a fancy hotel when the sun goes down, while all his coworkers are living in my family room on the floor and couches.
I didn’t want to think about where Bruce was sleeping; I hope he lay on the floor next to the air conditioner besides the TV. That was the coldest part of the house. Ollie and I have had movie marathons at my house before, but we moved it to his after that AC would have us freezing the entire time. I doubt Mom’s mad at him after that whole quarrel. My room didn’t feel like my room anymore after that, just space I didn’t feel safe in. The feeling was quickly spreading through my whole house. I didn’t feel safe unless I was with Ollie and at the beach.       “Robbie,” Mom calls from downstairs. “Come get breakfast,” I turn to the window where I see Ollie sit at his desk right in front of his window, holding up a piece of paper that asks, G2G? I nod and wave as he furiously scribbles on a new sheet of paper in his journal. He turns it around with a big smile and the paper says, How did the shark plead in the murder case? I narrow my eyes and shrug. Ollie writes quickly and turns the paper back around. Not gill-ty! I laugh as Mom calls for me once more. I groan and roll my eyes before turning to Ollie and giving him a big smile and mouthing “Thank you.” He waves goodbye before I get up and head downstairs.       As I walk down my spiral staircase, I stare at the agents in my living room, running computers and running themselves around my house. I saw the blue bowl of fruit and Frosted Flakes on the counter and maneuver around the agents. A spoon lay next to it, which I swiftly take along with the bowl. I’m careful not to spill as I turn back around to the stair case.       “Robbie—”       “I’m eating upstairs.” I retort as I carefully make my way up towards my room.       “Robbie,” a deeper voice demands. I stop where I am on the stairs and roll my eyes. Turning around, I look down over the railing to see Fury in all black wearing his usual frown and crossing his arms.       “What?” I ask, sounding like a statement.       “Stop communicating with the boy.”       “Get out of my house and I might,” I snap. Mom glares daggers at me, telling me to stop.       “Ooh,” one agent named Clint grits his teeth with a smile. “Fury has met his match.” His agent friend, the redhead from before, Natasha, glares at him.       She turns to Fury. “I think the least we can do is let her talk to him. We did invade her house,”       “My house?” I laugh, after spooning cereal into my mouth. “Try my freaking life!”       “You’ll get used to it,” Tony, the man who was in the iron suit says. He reads a Key Largo newspaper, and he said it by not even looking up from the story he was reading. “I’m thinking about swimming later. Any good beaches?”       “White Beach,” I answer coldly.       “Hm, how’s that one?”       “Great. Especially for people of your taste.” I retort.       Tony looks up from his paper and over to Mom, who sighs and shakes her head.       “It’s filled with sharks,” Mom says softly. Bruce lays a hand over hers on top of the counter, as another snakes behind her waist. His brown eyes meet mine on the stairs, and I have to bite the inside of my cheek to keep from snaring. Bruce looks away as I head back to my room.       “I’d like to see a shark,” I hear Agent Steve say just as I grab my doorknob.       “Stop kissing her ass, Stripes,” Tony retort.       “Would it be so bad to let her get out? The rain is letting up, I’m sure she knows how to drive the boat, and Nat’s right, she’s just a kid. Would it be the worst thing in the world if she was allowed out?” Steve asks.       There was silence except for the hum of computers. I heard footsteps approach the stairs.       “Roberta,” Fury says. I round the stairs, still eating my cereal out of the bowl. “You drive a boat?” I nod. “Know the way to the beach?” I nod again. “If Captain Rogers, Agent Romanoff and Barton came with you, would you still consider going?” I nod once more. “Congrats,” Fury says, blank face. “You’re free,”
***
I drove the boat, and my shipmates were Steve, Natasha, and Clint. Were, as in before Mom and Bruce decided to tag along. Tony came as well, but I ignored him because he was becoming annoying. The rain finally let up, but the sky was still a sickly grey. On the boat, the mood was like the sky. It was silent except for the engine, propellers, and the inky blue waves crashing against the boat. Natasha and Clint were staring down over the boat, whispering to one another and smiling. Steve was sitting next to Natasha, facing the way I was, out towards the ocean. Except, I had the few occasional glances in the rearview mirror looking back at Mom and Bruce, who sat on their own bench.       Tony stood up near the back, holding onto the rails like he's done this before.       "I advise you to sit down, Tony," I snap loudly over the noise. I could see Mom's glare in the mirror for calling him by his first name.        "I'm alright," Tony shrugs, pushing his sunglasses up on his nose. "I've handled yachts faster than this."       I bite my bottom lip in anger and look back at Tony in the rearview mirror. Gripping the accelerator, I jerk it forward, holding on tight to the wheel. The boat jumps, and everyone grabs on tight to the rails.       "ROBERTA!" Mom shouts as the boat swerves over the waves.       I can somewhat see and hear Steve, Natasha and Clint gasping and holding onto the rails. Mom holds onto Bruce's left shoulder, which she could potentially dislocate if she tugged hard enough. I wasn't going to let anyone get hurt though; I may not like anyone (except for Mom) on this boat, but I wasn't a monster. Besides, going fast in a boat was hella fun.       In just a few short, fast, minutes, we reach White Beach. I press the gas lightly as slowly ride the boat to a smooth stop. Turning around, I see Tony on the floor of the boat, gripping the railing tightly.       "Are you usually huddled on the floor of your yachts, or is this something new?" I ask, cutting the engine.       "Roberta!" Mom snaps.       "No, Betty," Tony says, staggering as he stands up. "It's alright, I'm okay. I respect someone those who like putting up a good fight," He takes off his sunglasses, and immediately his brown eyes look down to Bruce and Mom on the bench. "Woah, Banner, you good?"       Bruce was breathing heavily, like he was trying to calm down. "Yeah," he nods, taking Mom's hand that rests on his shoulder. "I'm fine,"       "Let's not try that again." Natasha says to me, her eyes narrowed but not in anger or judgment. I thought she looked scared, and I realized so did Steve and Clint.       I felt guilt tighten in my chest, but I suppressed it by grabbing the big white bucket underneath the steering wheel and pulling on gloves from the drawer next to the shifts. Taking off the lid on the bucket, I reach in and grab the biggest piece of meat. As I pull it out, I hear a lot of disgusted groans behind me, and Mom starts panicking.       "What the-? -Robbie! Where did you get that?"       "I mean, it's not like I'm best friends with the company owner's grandson, who happens to know a couple of certain people." I retort.        I toss the piece of meat out into the water and watch the waves turn red.       "Careful, Robbie! Not too close to the boat!"       "Sharks don't attack unless you provoke them," I sigh, rolling my eyes. "Speaking of which, there's one now,"       I see a big, smooth brown body wave it's tail up to the meat, breeching just a quarter of the way out of the water to grab the meat and take it whole. Everyone runs to my side of the boat and watch as more shadows of sharks come swimming around. I toss more meat in as the adults awe at the magnificent creatures.       "What's that one?" Steve asks.       "Better not be a Great White," Clint mutters.       "Actually, the beach was ironically named," I tell them. "There are no Great Whites around here. They were living around here years ago, but coral kept growing and made the space down below smaller, too small for their big bodies. The first shark was a nurse shark; they're pretty much harmless unless provoked."       "What's that one?" Natasha asks, pointing to a slim yellow shark that snagged a small piece of meat.       "That's a lemon shark, they're top of the ecosystem in some parts around Florida along with the bull shark. They're usually seen around wrecks, but they can't resist food when they smell it."       I talked about all kinds of sharks from then on, because they all asked for facts. It was really kind of them, I felt normal for once, talking about something I love. I could feel Bruce's eyes on me, and when I didn't I knew he turned right back to Mom, talking to her, and then back to me. For as close as they were to me, I couldn't hear them.       Mom looks at him with a gleam in her eyes that I've never seen before. I felt hurt by it, and I didn't know why.       We left nearing sundown to go back for dinner, and now as I steadily drove the boat I looked back in the rearview mirror. Bruce and Mom were smiling and laughing; he held her hands and made her giggle, even bringing out her snort laugh that she hated so much, but when she snorted she didn't apologize or ridicule her laugh. Mom felt comfortable around Bruce, and though she was my mother, with the same characteristics, I couldn't help but feel that she was a completely different person.

Stillness Shattered
PAIRING: Steve Rogers x Female Reader WARNINGS: Angst, secrets, living together WORD COUNT: 4,487 SQUARE FILLED: Free Space
AUTHOR’S NOTE: Here’s my first entry for my Marvel Angst Bingo card! Also, this is the beginning of a little series. Well ... little for me. ;)
Tumblr media
You stood in the kitchen, today’s mail in your hand. You studied the envelopes, tossing the junk ones onto the counter. You set the few you were holding onto the counter, away from the junk pile, and went to open one of the letters. You went still, a smile coming to your lips as two hands slid over your hips, pulling you backwards just a bit, until you were pressed against a solid wall of muscle. Lips pressed to your neck and you sighed, closing your eyes at the warmth that suddenly surrounded you.
“Hey, you.”
The only answer you received was another kiss to your neck, fingers moving your shirt out of the way so the lips could dance over your shoulder.
“Good day, Cap?”
Steve grunted, making you laugh as you turned in his arms to face him. You gasped when you got a good look at him and he sighed.
“Looks worse than it is.” “Are you kidding me?”
Tumblr media
You laid your hands on his dirty face, gently moving it where you wanted as you studied his split lip and the cut above his eyebrow.
“I’m almost healed.” “Just hush.”
He did as you said, sitting in one of the chairs at the table as you grabbed the first aid kit you kept under the kitchen sink.
“It’s really not necessary—“ “Humor me.”
Steve sighed, grimacing as he tugged his T-shirt off. You winced when you saw the bruising to his rib cage, shaking your head as you wet a cotton ball with alcohol. He flinched when you pressed the cotton ball against the cut on his forehead, relaxing when you pursed your lips and gently blew on the sting. He closed his eyes, hands coming to your hips as you wiped the dirt from his face and “patched him up” as best you could. The serum had almost healed him completely before you were done.
When you closed the first aid kit, you sighed as Steve tugged at your hips. You climbed into his lap, resting your head against his neck. His thick arms came around you, wrapping you in warmth, and you gave a long exhale, murmuring against his skin.
“I love you.”
Steve smiled.
“I love you too. And I’m sorry.” “For what?” “Showing up like this and worrying you.”
You sighed, keeping your arms around his neck as you pulled back and looked into his gorgeous eyes. You shrugged your shoulders.
“Goes with the territory.”
A small smile came to his lips as you moved a hand to brush through his hair.
“Dating Captain America and all.” “Dating? Is that what we’re doing?”
You couldn’t stop the smile.
“Sneaking around?”
Steve rolled his eyes and you giggled.
“Hey, you’re the one who has a problem with it.” “Well, if your dad was anyone but the Secretary of State…” “And if a frog had wings, he wouldn’t bump his ass every time he jumped.”
You rolled your eyes, laughing when Steve pinched your side. He caught your lips in a kiss, resting his forehead against yours. You closed your eyes, smiling as you spoke softly.
“Sorry about the bad language.” “Oh, don’t you even start.”
You laughed, shifting in his lap and laying your hands on his face, tugging his head down and pressing your lips against his forehead. He shook his head, meeting your eyes again.
“Did Tony tell everyone that story?” “Maria.”
Steve shook his head and you smiled.
“It’s sweet. Reminds me just how old-fashioned you are.” “Emphasis on the ‘old?’” “You said it, not me.”
You squealed as he pinched your sides again, wiggling on his lap. You glared at him, and he smiled at you. You leaned in and kissed him, relaxing when his arms surrounded you, enclosing you in warmth. Steve moved his hands under your thighs, holding tightly as he stood up. You wrapped your legs around his waist, moving to kiss under his jaw as he walked down the hall to your bedroom.
Tumblr media
You yawned as you blinked your eyes open, pulling the covers closer around you as you stretched and glanced around the room. You smiled a sleepy smile when you saw Steve standing in the bathroom doorway, leaning against it with a smile on his face and a towel wrapped around his waist. Water droplets glistened on his chest, dripping from his hair, slipping down his toned abdomen and disappearing into the towel. You reached out a hand for him and he smiled, walking to you and taking your hand as he climbed in the bed with you, hovering over you and kissing your lips.
You pushed a hand through his wet hair and smiled.
“You were supposed to wait on me.” “You looked so peaceful. I just couldn’t wake you.”
You smiled, closing your eyes as he kissed your chin and down your neck. The breath hitched in your throat and Steve smiled as he gently sucked a mark into your skin. You moved your hands to his face, pulling him up to where you could kiss his lips again. Your hands danced down to his hips, tugging the towel free, smiling when he grabbed hold of it and flung it towards the bathroom.
You laughed and he pulled back, raising an eyebrow at you. You shook your head, biting your bottom lip.
“I just had this vision of everything in my bathroom coming crashing down, mirror broken to bits.”
Steve smiled, shaking his head.
“Give me some credit, babe. I’m not the Hulk.” “Shame.”
Your eyes widened and your mouth opened when he looked to you, a shocked expression on his face. You couldn’t keep up the charade, and you laughed, squealing when his fingers dug into your sides.
“I was kidding!” “You think you’re so funny.” “I give! I give, uncle, please!”
Steve leaned back, looking down at you. A half smile was on his lips, normally perfectly-coiffed hair disheveled, pieces hanging down on his forehead. You swallowed, blinking as he leaned down, looking into his eyes as he pressed his lips to yours. He deepened the kiss and your eyes drifted closed, hands coming to card through his still-damp hair before resting on his back.

You wrapped your robe around you, tying the belt and bending at the waist, twisting your wet hair into a towel. You walked to the sink and picked up your moisturizer, smiling when Steve stepped into the bathroom, yawning widely.
“Good morning, Cap.”
Steve grunted, making you laugh as he made his way to the sink. You leaned over and kissed his cheek, moving out of his way as he turned the water on and splashed his face. He yawned again and you rubbed the lotion over your face.
“Coffee should be ready soon.”
Steve nodded, propping his hands on the counter and hanging his head. You glanced to him and spoke softly.
“Honey? Are you okay?”
He lifted his head, looking into the mirror at his reflection before meeting your eyes.
“I just … I don’t know. I have this feeling.” “What kind of feeling?”
He shook his head.
“I don’t know.”
He held out an arm and you stepped over, wrapping your arms around his torso as he turned his head and kissed your temple.
“It’s okay, Steve.” “It’s like … deep in my gut. I don’t know, babe.” “Breathe.”
He did as you said, turning and wrapping you in a hug. You closed your eyes, holding him as tightly as he held you. After a few minutes, he spoke softly, keeping his arms around you.
“I’m going to call in.” “What?” “You can too, and we’ll just stay here.” “Steve.”
You pulled back enough to look at him.
“I can’t call in. I own the place.” “Doesn’t mean you can’t take a day off.” “Honey. A day off could close the shop.”
Steve huffed out a breath and you sighed. You stepped away from him, picking up your foundation and dabbing a little bit onto your hand. Steve crossed his arms over his chest and you let out a laugh as you rubbed the makeup onto your skin.
“Stop trying to intimidate me.” “I’m not.” “Then stop trying to bully me into doing what you want.” “I’m not doing that either.” “Bullshit.”
His blue eyes widened and you looked into the mirror, pointing at it, but towards him.
“You get all bowed up, tensing those mouthwatering muscles. Your eyes go sharp and everyone bows to Captain America. I know you. That doesn’t work on me.”
Steve clenched his jaw, then narrowed his eyes as he let his arms fall.
“My muscles are mouthwatering? Really?” “Oh, shut up.”
Steve laughed, moving to stand behind you, watching as you brushed powder onto your face.
“I don’t get why dames like you wear stuff like this. You’re beautiful without it.”
You met his eyes in the mirror, smiling when he winked at you. You reached back and tapped the brush against his nose, giggling when it wrinkled and his hand came up to brush the dreaded makeup away.
“You may think I’m beautiful, but society does not. I don’t want to scare any small children.”
Steve rolled his eyes.
“I’m going to go get some coffee. Cream and sugar in yours?” “There’s some hazelnut creamer in the fridge.”
He gave you a thumbs up and you picked up your eye shadow as he left the bathroom.
Tumblr media
Steve stood up after he tied his shoes, blowing out a breath. He shook his head, still feeling the itch between his shoulder blades that he’d woken up with. You came into his vision, fastening your earrings, and he couldn’t help the smile that slid onto his lips as he held out a hand for you. You smiled as you laid your hand in his, laughing when he brought your hand to his lips.
He pulled you to him, kissing the top of your head. You sighed, looking up at him and waiting until he looked down at you. You went up on your tiptoes, pressing your lips to his, one hand resting against his freshly shaven cheek. Steve stared into your eyes, smiling as he murmured to you.
“Be careful today.”
You nodded, replying just as softly.
“You be careful.” “Always.” “Liar.”
Steve chuckled, taking your face in his hands and kissing you. He pulled back just enough to rest his forehead on yours, and you smiled, keeping your eyes closed, moving your hands up and down the thick muscles in his arms.
“I’ll see you later, Steve. Hey, how about I cook us something for supper?” “What?” “What do you want?”
Steve smiled.
“Surprise me.” “That could be a dangerous game, Cap.” “Well, I trust you.”
You smiled, your reply cut off by his lips pressing to yours again. You moved your hand to brush through the hair on the back of his head, sighing happily into the kiss.
“I love you.” “I love you, Steve.”
He kissed your lips once more, then pressed a kiss to your forehead. He took your hand and held it as the two of you walked to your garage, opening the door for you as you climbed into your car. He leaned over the window as you started the car, then stuck his head in once you rolled the window down.
“If you need me…” “I’ve got you on speed dial.”
Steve nodded and you reached over, laying your hand on his.
“I’m fine. I’ll keep an eye out today, and give you a full debriefing when I see you tonight.”
You leaned closer to him, giving him a lascivious wink.
“Pun intended.”
Steve groaned, leaning his head back, but smiling widely.
“You’re awful.” “I have my moments.”
He poked his head in the window, kissing you once more. He tapped the car door and you rolled the window up, backing the car out of the driveway. At the end of your street, you smiled as you heard the roar of his motorcycle, heading in the opposite direction.
Tumblr media
You glanced up as the bell over the door rang, a smile coming to your face as your sister came into your sight.
“Betty!”
Tumblr media
She smiled as she walked over, leaning over the counter to embrace you and giving you a kiss on the cheek. You held her at arm's length, shaking your head.
“When did you get back in town?” “An hour ago. I got off the plane, set my bags down at home and said ‘I need to take my little sister to lunch.’ Is it possible?” “Today? Absolutely. We’re so slow it’s not funny.”
The smile on Betty’s face lit up the shop. You locked the front door, flipping the “OPEN” sign around. Betty looped her arm through yours and the two of you walked down the street to a little cafe. The hostess sat you at a little table in the back of the cafe, and once you had a sip of water, you turned to your sister.
“So tell me about Paris.” “It’s gorgeous. It was a little rainy, but I didn’t mind. It fit.”
You sighed, smiling at the waitress as she walked up. You and Betty put your orders in, and when the waitress left, you spoke softly.
“Have you spoken to him?”
Betty shook her head, and you sighed. She lifted her eyes to yours and shrugged a shoulder.
“I spoke to him once while I was in Paris.”
You waited, watching her stare at the tabletop.
“And?” “And nothing. He’s in Marrakech or something, and he’s fine. I’m fine, and there’s nothing else to talk about.”
Betty lifted her head and smiled as the waitress refilled her water glass. When she walked away, you tilted your head at your sister. She shook her head, a smile on her lips as tears filled her eyes.
“Don’t. Don’t look at me like that.” “Like what?” “Like you pity me.” “I don’t pity you. I just … I know how you felt about him. How you feel. It can’t be easy.”
Betty let out a laugh, reaching for a napkin and dabbing at her eyes.
“Can we please talk about something else?”
You reached across the table and laid your hand on hers. You nodded and she cleared her throat as she dabbed the napkin at her eyes again.
“How are things with you?” “Good. The shop’s doing okay. Not too busy, but that’s okay.” “And aside from the shop?”
You shrugged your shoulders, glancing at the tabletop.
“Same old, same old.” “Hang on.”
You lifted your eyes and a smile spread over Betty’s plump lips.
“You’re hiding something.” “What?! I am not.” “Oh, you big fat liar.”
Your eyes widened, mouth popping open, and you shook your head. Betty pursed her lips, nodding her head.
“You are shit at lying.” “I am not. Dad still thinks a rogue shopping cart at the supermarket put that dent into his car back when we were in high school.” “Okay, I’ll give you that one. But you are absolute shit at lying to me.”
You sighed, leaning back in your chair as the waitress brought your food to the table. Betty laced her fingers together, setting her elbows on the table and resting her chin on her hands. You sighed again, squeezing your eyes shut.
“Who is he?”
You opened your eyes, biting your lip. Betty’s eyes sparkled as she kept pushing.
“Do I know him?” “You know of him. Everyone knows of him.”
You muttered the last part under your breath, and Betty raised an eyebrow.
“It’s not like a celebrity, is it?”
You let out a breath.
“Kind of?” “‘Kind of?’ What do you mean by ‘kind of?’ He either is or he isn’t.”
You sighed.
“Betty--” “Give me a hint.” “No.”
You took a bite of your food and she raised an eyebrow at you.
“The way you’re acting, you’d think you were dating Jesus or something. Or Captain America, wouldn’t that be a hoot?”
Your eyes widened before you could stop yourself, and you shook your head slightly before looking up at her. Betty’s eyes were wide, and her mouth was open in a shocked “O.”
“What the fuck, Y/N?!” “Calm down.” “You’re dating--” “Hush, Betty.”
She blinked multiple times, sitting back in her chair.
“Are you serious?”
You nodded.
“How long?”
You made a face, and Betty’s eyes raged as she leaned forward.
“Tell me this is a new thing.” “Betty…” “Oh my god.”
She shook her head.
“How long?!” “Can you keep your voice down, please?”
She pressed her lips together, clearly waiting for your answer. You gave a shaky exhale, then spoke softly.
“It … started after the Battle of New York.” “The Battle of--Y/N. That was years ago!” “We took it slow. Very, very slow.”
She sat back in her chair, eyes wide as she slowly shook her head.
“I can’t believe you.”
You sighed.
“I didn’t plan it out. He came into the shop one day and … we talked. He kept coming in and we kept talking. A few months after that, he asked me to go for coffee with him.”
You shrugged.
“We became friends. I taught him how to text and now he won’t leave me alone.”
You smiled as you lifted your eyes from the tablecloth to your sister, your brows furrowing, smile disappearing when you saw the look on her face.
“Betty?”
She shook her head.
“You didn’t tell me.” “I didn’t tell anyone.” “But you didn’t tell me, Y/N. You tell me everything.”
You looked down at your hands, then met her eyes again.
“We thought it would be easier to just keep it to ourselves. You were so caught up in Bruce and trying to help him. I didn’t need you keeping my secret in the midst of that.”
Betty turned to look out the window and you sighed.
“He needed someone outside of S.H.I.E.L.D. and the government that he could decompress with. I didn’t deliberately keep it from you. He asked me to just let him have time with me away from it all, and I couldn’t tell him no.”
You looked down at your hands again.
“Plus, we knew Dad would freak.” “That’s putting it lightly.”
You nodded, and Betty sighed.
“Y/N. Look at me.”
You shook your head and she sighed again, reaching across the table and holding out her hand. After a moment, you put your hand in hers and she spoke softly.
“I know you didn’t do it to hurt me.” “That’s the last thing I’d ever want to do.”
Betty sighed.
“It’s just … hard to hear that … someone’s taken my place as your best friend.”
You lifted your head and she gave you a soft smile.
“Even if that person is Captain America.” “Betty, you’re my best friend. You always have been.” “Honey, it’s okay.”
She gave your hand a squeeze.
“The person you love is supposed to be your best friend. It’s okay. It’s just … a lot.”
You nodded, sniffling as tears came to your eyes. Betty let out a laugh, shaking her head as she blinked back tears of her own.
“Jesus. Look at us. This is supposed to be a happy thing and we’re like a couple of babies.”
You gave a watery laugh, lifting your napkin to dab at your eyes. Betty shook her head, eyes still sparkling as she smiled at you.
“Tell me about him. Not what the public knows. Something only you know.”
You licked your lips as you thought, then smiled.
“He can’t work a toaster.” “What?”
You shook your head.
“It doesn’t matter if I load the bread into the slots. If he presses the lever down, whatever is inside will burn. I’ve tested this theory many times. The final time, with flames shooting out the thing was the best.”
Betty’s eyes were wide as you giggled.
“He had to throw his shield on top of it to put out the fire.”
Betty laughed at that.
“Oh my god.” “I take care of the cooking and he does everything else.” “Everything else?”
You nodded.
“He’s very old-fashioned. Obviously. He opens doors for me, pulls my chair out. Rubs my feet at night.”
Betty blinked.
“Has he … moved in with you?”
You nodded.
“More or less. And that was a long, long discussion. Months long. The old-fashioned thing. People didn’t live together without being married in his time. And he …”
You shrugged your shoulders, looking up at Betty.
“He’s afraid it would be too dangerous for us to get married. He thinks I’d be in danger if people knew I was his girl.” “Wow.”
Betty shook her head.
“This is more serious than I thought.”
You nodded, smiling as you looked down at your hands.
“Plus, he wants to ask Dad first and since Dad kind of hates him and the rest of the Avengers…” “Oh jeez.”
You nodded again, and Betty rolled her eyes.
“He’s got to get over that.” “Steve or Dad?” “Dad. And it’s so cute that you call him ‘Steve.’”
You rolled your eyes, then sighed.
“I better get back to the shop.”
Betty made a face, but nodded.
“I should probably go see Dad, let him know I’m back.”
You nodded, gathering your purse.
“Betty, I … I know this is unnecessary, but…” “I won’t say anything. As long as you promise me I can be there when you do tell the General. Those are some fireworks I would kill to witness.”
You rolled your eyes, but held out your hand, last finger extended. Betty laughed, then linked her pinky with yours.
“You’re the best, little sister.” “Yeah, whatever.”
Betty giggled, wrapping you up in her arms. You let out a sigh.
“I’m glad you’re back.” “Me too.” “Maybe I can get you over for dinner one night. Let you and Steve get properly acquainted.” “Make it happen.”
You snorted, giving her one more squeeze before you left the restaurant, making your way back to the shop.
Tumblr media
You were in the back section of the shop, standing on your tiptoes, pushing a box onto a high shelf. Not for the first time, you wondered what it might look like to hire Steve—Captain America working at a local small business. Might boost his already-high morale, not to mention it would make the heavy lifting so much easier on you.
The bell over the door rang and you went back on your flat feet.
“I’ll be with you in just a second!”
You brushed your hands off, making your way to the front of the store, where a man stood with his back to you. By the way he was standing, you could tell he was or had been in the military. Growing up with General “Thunderbolt” Ross as your father gave you all sorts of insight. You smiled, wiping your hands on the apron you wore.
“Hi there. Can I help you find something?”
The man turned around, and your eyes widened, mouth falling open when you saw the half of his face that was puckered and scarred, clearly having been burned. He stepped forward and drew the blinds over the door, and you went still as heavy footsteps sounded behind you. The man turned back to you, a menacing smile on his grotesque face.
“Actually … I found exactly what I need.”
Tumblr media
Steve hung his head as he dropped the phone onto the couch beside him. He ran his hands over his face, teeth clenched together. Y/N’s phone had gone to voicemail all three times he’d tried to call her.
He shook his head, pocketing the phone and walking back to the garage. He opened the door and walked his motorcycle out, firing it up and driving to her shop.
The shop was dark, blinds closed on the door. Steve parked the motorcycle and walked to the window, cupping his hands on it and trying to see inside. He huffed out a breath, putting his hands on his hips. He reached for the door, giving an experimental tug.
His blood ran cold when the door opened, the bell giving a weak jingle.
Tumblr media
He stepped inside, hand going to the light switch and flipping it on. His mouth dropped open, shoulders heaving with the painful breaths leaving his lungs. Panic settled in the middle of his chest and he closed his eyes, trying not to scream and ruin the store more than it already was. He flinched as something crashed in the back, and he made his way there, stepping over broken pieces of shelving and merchandise, only to find the high shelf he’d installed barely attached to the wall, a box on the ground.
He closed his eyes again, shaky hand pulling the phone from his pocket. He punched in a number, holding his other hand to the back of his head.
“Nat.”
His voice was strangled, and he couldn’t get any words out other than Natasha’s name. He stayed on the line anyway, knowing she’d ping his location and be there in less than five minutes.
Tumblr media
Natasha slammed the car door, pulling the gun from her waistband and pointing it as she made her way into the shop. The bell rang as she pushed open the door, and her heart dropped when she saw Steve on his knees in the midst of complete destruction.
Natasha lowered her gun, slipping it back in its holster. Steve looked over to her, tears in his blue eyes. She blinked, shaking her head as she looked around, carefully stepping over broken board and beams, laying a hand on his shoulder.
“What happened?”
Steve shook his head. Natasha narrowed her eyes as she studied her surroundings.
“If I didn’t know better, I’d say it was almost like …”
She swallowed, and Steve lowered his head. She shook her head.
“Bruce is in Marrakech, but this … it looks like the Hulk was here.”
Steve swallowed, closing his eyes as Natasha gave his shoulder a squeeze.
“Talk to me, Cap.”
Steve gave a shaky exhale.
“The owner of this shop.” “Y/N Ross?”
Steve looked up at her again, confusion in his eyes. Natasha gently went on.
“I researched on the way over here. Younger daughter of Thaddeus Ross, former Army General, current Secretary Of State. Younger sister of Dr. Elizabeth, “Betty,” Ross.”
Steve slowly nodded again.
“And my … I don’t know. ‘Girlfriend’ seems cheap compared to what she really is.” “I’m sorry, what?”
Tumblr media
Steve ran a hand over his face, slowly getting to his feet. He glanced down, seeing the incredulous look on Natasha’s face.
“Y/N Ross is … my everything.” “Steve.” “And now she’s missing.”

What do you think, we'll see betty in infinity war? But what will happen to bruce and nat? I love brucenat so much tbh. But i am scared because of scarlett's interview. Everyone saying that brucenat is going to die in infinity war. I really want to see them together and happy
Thanks for the questions! I sincerely don’t think we’ll see Betty turn up in Infinity War (or Avengers 4). I dearly love the character and think MCU Betty has not been treated well by Marvel–something that’s all too common with female characters who are primarily love interests in the MCU. I’m really not happy with the fan press spreading false rumors this past spring that Liv Tyler was in the Infinity War cast. These started when a local Edinburg paper ran a story in its business section about the economic impact filming Infinity War was having on the local economy. The writer didn’t know much about the film franchise and was lazy because he apparently Googled a list of people who’d been in Marvel films and just pasted it into the story. I tracked it down and commented on the paper’s page at the time since there was such an uproar in the fan community, and the local paper took the story down. Unfortunately, the rumor had hit bigger papers, and so it goes and goes and goes.  Another reason its not true is Liv Tyler was filming Gunpowder, an historical  mini-series about the Gunpowder Rebellion from April through the summer, so she wasn’t exactly available for IW. Don’t get me wrong, if Betty made an appearance as a strong independent character doing science and kicking ass to help save the universe, I’m all for it, but it’s been over 12 years since the accident and nine since the Battle of Harlem. If Marvel Studios was going to bring her back and pick up the Bruce and Betty relationship, it would have happened already. Realistically, they’ve both moved on. [Shameless plug: If you want my full take on it, read Special Needs: A Bruce and Natasha FanFic, which includes people acting like adults and going on to find their separate bliss.] It’s not impossible for Betty to show up, but it’s highly unlikely and even less likely it would be to start a love triangle. People complain about Bruce and Natasha’s relationship being rushed or “shoehorned” into Age of Ultron, so I can’t imagine there being time for developing a triangle. Just nope.
I don’t think we need to be too concerned about Scarlett’s remarks during the interview for Inside the Actors Studio. At the worst, it’s a wash because she was so ambiguous that anti-Bruce x Natasha shippers can twist what she said. Focus her words: “ONGOING RELATIONSHIP.” She said nothing about it ending. What she did was confirm it was not being erased or ignored. Scarlett confirmed she was working with Mark, presumably on a scene they share, and Mark helped her work through the feelings Scarlett had about her own real life situation. She did not say she felt despair about the characters’ relationship. The fan press has twisted and misinterpreted this and the anti-shippers are gleefully twisting it further to make themselves feel better. DO NOT LISTEN TO THEM. When they see it distresses our community, they smell blood in the water because they want us to feel small and hopeless. Don’t put yourself under their heels, especially when they are making things up in order to keep us down. We know they’re full of lies. Don’t get worked up over it. Put on your poker face because we have the winning hand.
What Scarlett did say is she thought about what had happened to Bruce/Hulk (presumably since AoU) and what had changed with him/them. That change he/they had gone through made her feel bad for him/them AND she could relate to that feeling in her own life. What made her feel that way in her own life? We don’t know, so all we can do is speculate if she thinks she’s changed or her husband or someone else in her life feels less dependable.
On the other hand, since the interview came out, we do know a little more about what has happened to Bruce and Hulk. Now we know there is reason to feel bad for both of them. Bruce has been put on hold or on “ice” in his subconscious for two plus years while Hulk has been out in the world since we saw him jump out of the pit in Sakovia and take Nat to “finish the job.” Hulk made the call at the end of Age of Ultron to shut off communications with her on the quinjet and fly away. When Bruce wakes up in Thor: Ragnarok, his last memory is of Natasha telling him she adored him and kissing him then putting the mission and saving the world first above both their feelings. They are both heroes first, and I sincerely think Bruce will understand that and not blame Natasha for the unforeseen consequences. He was ready to leave with her and give what they felt for one another a chance. He wasn’t interested in some tryst or one-night stand, he wanted to be with her in a committed relationship. Running was his plan, and his plans included her. It’s clear from her looks, words, and clothing in Civil War that she’s not given up on him either.
When you consider Scarlett’s words in light of this, it’s clear that the characters still have feelings. It’s an “ongoing relationship”. Scarlett feels bad for Bruce (and maybe Hulk), and she connects with that feeling on a personal level. Mark helped her better understand her feelings and work through them as a cathartic part of the creative process. We’re highly likely to see the results of this on the screen. There will be a Cormorant and Tun Pub scene and a reunion of some kind. It could be in Infinity War, but I’m kind of hoping it’s a post-credits scene in Thor: Ragnarok. Either way, I’m pretty sure we’ll know more in a month and a half. We’ll, probably get something along the line of mutual apologies and a feelings check before heading in separate directions to fight Thanos (Don’t you die on me, we have a raincheck on this ongoing relationship! See you on the other side!). I’ve already bought my tickets for 7:30pm, Thursday, November 2nd. Fingers crossed!

BuckyNat VS Brucetasha
So with the recent news coming out that infinity wars will address black widow and hulks relationship I have seen a lot of hate toward she bucky nat ship, and most of it goes something like “I’m glad that black widow and hulk are together. Bucky and nat shouldn’t be together because it’s like shoving two characters together that have not had any build up.” Which yes is true, but was that not what hulk and black widow was? Was there any build up? I mean I didn’t see any during the first avengers. I personally want to see bucky and nat together, but I want build up. I don’t want them shoved together. I think that hulk and black widows relationship does need to be addressed, it can’t just be dropped. But we do have rumor of Liv Tyler coming back as Betty Ross. If that does happen I cannot see widow and hulks relationship continuing. And the Russo brothers don’t care much for that relationship. So personally I cannot see it going anywhere. I dunno, those are just my thoughts.
