Hello! I'm Kevin, an independent game designer and programmer from San Francisco, CA
Currently learning more about art and decided to start documenting my journey.
First challenge is attempting to do #the100daysproject using Sketch 3.

Day 30 / 30 ~ September 10th, 2019
Theme: Artist’s Choice ( Finale )
Woo, we did it!!
It’s been quite a journey, but one I’m glad and thankful I went on. I learned so much over the last 30 days and showed myself I’m more capable of pixel art and animation than I thought was possible.
Thanks for being a part of this journey and looking forward to more art challenges in the future!
Enjoy a little compilation of the last 30 days to relive the journey once more~
Day 29 / 30 ~ September 9th, 2019
Theme: Last Stand
Day 29 of the pixel art challenge was of Luke’s X-Wing in the Death Star trench and it turned out pretty good! I’m proud of the perspective and movement on the side walls, which was an experiment. One more day to go!
Day 28 of the pixel art challenge was my take on a Super Smash Bros. Melee. version of Zelda and wow, I’m amazed I was capable of creating something like this. Starting this challenge, I had pretty low confidence in my pixel art abilities, but it just goes to show that committing to practice and consistency really does pay off.
Must be in the Legend of Zelda mood with yesterday’s daily as well, but I’m glad I am because the inspiration and creativity is really coming through =)
Day 27 / 30 ~ September 7th, 2019
Theme: Mini Boss
Day 27 of the pixel art challenge was a blast from the past ( Link to the Past, to be more specific ). Legend of Zelda, Link to the Past was my favorite game growing up on the SNES and my appreciation for it has recently been revived through watching speed runs and randomizers of the game.
This one was super fun to make and I think the minimal style comes through so well with this one~
Day 26 of the pixel art challenge was inspired by Kirby’s Air Ride with Kirby floating around collecting little stars. I went for a more minimalistic approach on this one and I feel it’s a style I could get used to.
Day 25 of the pixel art challenge was a pixel version of an old game concept called Eco Planets, which turned out great! The original concept was done in a 2D vector style, but this one has its own charm ❤︎
Day 24 of the pixel art challenge came out of nowhere, but it’s the Jazz Cats! Had a bunch of fun making this one and I like that each cat has their own personality.
Day 23 of the pixel art challenge was calm and peaceful lake inspired by some recent outdoor activities. With it, I tried out a new blurring technique for the water to give it some movement and it worked well!
Day 22 of the pixel art challenge was inspired by the awesome card game Hanabi. I’ve been playing it a bunch recently with a few friends and had to pay tribute to its firework roots.
Day 21 / 30 ~ September 1st, 2019
Theme: Revisit Art From a Previous Day
Day 21 of the pixel art challenge was another take on the isometric puzzle game from a week ago. I really like the isometric style and wanted to revisit it with a puzzle for the game that I had been toying with.
Day 20 of the pixel art challenge was an X-Wing jumping to hyperspace. I’m really proud of this one and I feel like it captures that iconic Star Wars vibe after a big battle in space. The blurring during the jump was a byproduct of scaling the X-Wing down, but it actually added some extra motion, which was an accidental bonus.
Day 19 / 30 ~ August 30th, 2019
Theme: Out of the Box
Day 19 of the pixel art challenge was an interesting one. I didn’t really know where to go with it, so I did an inception concept where the players are playing characters, that are playing a game. Definitely a little abstract, but hey, gotta experiment sometimes, right?
Day 18 of the pixel art challenge was a tiny portal cat, trying to figure out how to get to the next level of the experiment. Little did they know that pressing the button would lead to companion cube’s fall.
Day 17 of the pixel art challenge was another character concept from the Sprout universe where Flora was from. This little fungi is called a Hermit Shroom. They hide in the day time with their scary outer shell and reveal their friendly faces when it’s cool and dark.
In the game, there was a concept of levels having a day and night version, so these characters would appear as background decoration in the day, but be interactable at night for a little surprise.
Day 16 / 30 ~ August 27th, 2019
Theme: Composition
Day 16 of the pixel art challenge was a bit abstract with the theme being composition, so I decided to go with a game idea I’ve been messing with that involves swapping parts of the level around to create a path to the goal. It took a long time getting everything to animate correctly, but I think it turned out well!
Would you be interested in playing a game like this?
