Sometimes I honestly forget I still have a Tumblr, but since I do... everyone reading this should follow @violetblue’s free weekly Pandemic Round-Ups. COVID is not endemic and we shouldn’t accept the public gaslighting. Stay informed, and...
Mask up 😷 Social Distance ↔️ Get vaxxed 💉 Get boosted 💉
or, as Violet herself always says: Stay Apart. Stand Together. Mask Up. Stay Strong.
I’ve already heard an early version of this book via Violet’s Patreon (which is the best place to legit COVID info - the pandemic isn’t over - cybersec/infosec news, and photos of her cats) and it’s a 💔 memoir about our shared hometown of SF and its complicated history. It met its goal, but you can keep supporting it to make more accessible versions available.
Also, you’ll be supporting her cats, Sam and Max: https://linktr.ee/viblue
It’s only been 24 hours since it launched and I still can’t believe I got off the streets to find out people care this much about what homeless kids are going through. Please share with anyone who needs this kind of hope!
I killed FB account years ago and my Twitter the year after that.
Who’da thunk it’d be such a good idea to hold onto my Flickr and Tumblr profiles? 😁
(PS: I’m one of the many journalists who warned about Musk Oil several times before this.)
This is not a drill. Our new Community Guidelines are here.
We recently introduced Community Labels to give everyone more control over their dashboard experience. With this new feature, you can adjust your feed to your preferred comfort level by setting the types of content you want to see. It was our first step toward a more open Tumblr.
Today, we’re taking the next step: We now welcome a broader range of expression, creativity, and art on Tumblr, including content depicting the human form (yes, that includes the naked human form).
So, even if your creations contain nudity, mature subject matter, or sexual themes, you can now share them on Tumblr using the appropriate Community Label so that everyone remains in control of the types of content they see on their dash.
We have updated our Community Guidelines to reflect these changes; the rest of our content policies remain the same: We still don’t allow hate, spam, violent threats, or anything illegal, and visual depictions of sexually explicit acts remain off-limits on Tumblr (if you want to know more about that, our CEO Matt recently explained why it’s not feasible for us to safely and successfully support porn communities at this time). If you come across these types of content, please continue to report them to us.
Similarly, if you come across content on Tumblr that doesn’t appear to be appropriately labeled, please let us know. This is how we’ll work together to create safer spaces for everyone on Tumblr, whatever their interests and needs.
We hope this shift creates more room for artistic expression to flourish on Tumblr while empowering each of you to craft your own experience and safely explore and discover the things you love.
Am I the only one who looks at this and thinks they’re just trying NOT to openly ask “How does this genre full of Black people become the biggest thing in the world?”
Seriously, the people in this report have a reverence for rock music, so much as it’s defined by WHITE PEOPLE. (Nevermind the fact that rock music is also a creation of Black America.)
So yeah, a musical genre created by Black people is once again the biggest in the world. Deal with it.
Forget ‘Confederate,’ watch Aaron McGruder’s new show!
So... by now you’ve all heard about this:
Amidst all the screaming that the premise is racist - which it is - I personally couldn’t help but think “Um... didn’t Boondocks creator already announce a similar show for Amazon this past February?
So... to Hell with Benioff & Weiss’s new show - let’s dedicate our Black asses to watching Aaron McGruder’s new joint.
Especially since the world has basically become a Boondocks strip come to life.
Transcribed so that all the folks and the back row can hear:
“I don’t know... I don’t know if anything surprises me about rap in 2017.
You know what does disappoint me majorly? That it’s a way to break [into the business] musically in 20-17 is beating up women. I think that that, beating up women as, like, being a catalyst for rap success - which I’m really seein’ in 20-17 - is a horrible trend. Very bad.
That-that used to be, like, something that we condemned you for, now it’s like “Oh, he beats up women?” Like, “put the song on the meme,” or “put in on the Vine” - and I think that’s completely ridiculous.
They’re not “problematic artists,” they’re cowards.
I mean, I don’t wanna... get into this place-- And that’s my issue: that we’re gettin’ to this place of confusing, like, like, “troubled” and, like, “charismatic” people with just cowards, y’know? Like beating up women on video, as these rappers continue to do, and then their li’l fans continue to support them for it, and it gets them poppin’ - we know what I’m talkin’ ‘bout.
It’s-it’s not just a “problematic person;” it’s not like “Oh, he’s a troubled artist.”
No, he’s a pussy. That’s what’s goin’ on.

Although there are (sadly) a number of rappers who meet that unfortunate description, we all know that there’s one so-called-rapper-but-really-just-mediocre-singer/dancer that fits that distinction to a “T”.
It’s not just on him, it’s also on his fans and collaborators:
When he’s cast as a sympathetic figure on an episode of Black*ish...
When even Chance the Rapper co-produces Kanye’s “Waves” and then Chano immediately tweets out that it was “his dream to work with Chris Brown”...
When superstars like Kanye and Future continue to put him on their tracks and think nothing of it...
When “conscious” cats like Kendrick show him love by making surprise appearances at his concerts...
When each and every one of his fans continues to defend his truly unforgivable behavior...
...then everyone above is an enabler. THAT is the problem. And it needs to stop.
