dabi - traitor
dabi x reader
description: when dabi appears, you think he’s still your childhood friend, right?
warnings: angst, murder
“If anyone were to ever hurt you, I would kill them.”
When you first heard that, you were blinded by the overwhelming emotion you felt after finding out he was alive. As you two held each other tight, you thought Dabi’s words were a sense of protectiveness, happy he still cared for you after all these years.
At that moment, it did not occur to you that he was telling the truth.
Before you knew that Dabi was Touya, you knew him as Dabi, the villain. Everyone knew him and his horrendous acts. And yet, when he revealed himself to you, you didn’t bother to think that you were hugging a murderer. A week earlier, you were disgusted by the LOV and what they were doing.
But the temporary relief that swelled your heart seeing your childhood best friend, who was presumed dead for many years, right in front of you, alive and well, those thoughts were completely erased from your mind. Still, it didn’t take long for them to come rushing back.
“Stop!” You shouted, rising to your feet from the alley ground as quick as you could.
Dabi was faster, aiming his flames at the young man and reducing him to ashes before you could reach him. In horror, you stood there paralyzed staring at the pile on the ground. Nausea overtook you and you threw up on the cold cement.
“Why,” You began to ask as you wiped your mouth. “Why would you do that?” The question was quiet, a hint of fear laced in your words.
“He was going to hurt you-”
“He was returning my wallet!”
Dabi scoffed. “That’s what he told you.”
“Touya, he was an innocent man!”
As you yelled, he stomped over to you, grabbing your chin roughly and forcing you to look at him. With gritted teeth, he said, “He was disgusting. Why aren’t you grateful that I helped you? I told you I would kill anyone that hurt you, and I meant it. Don’t you see how much I care about you?”
The look in his eyes was all you needed to convince yourself how much he had changed. You knew you were looking at the same person, but he was so different in so many ways. He was dangerous.
“I’m sorry.”
Your words caught him off guard. “What?”
“I said I’m sorry. I know you were just trying to protect me.” What a damn lie.
He scanned your face for a few seconds, before exhaling. Slowly, he let his grip on your chin go and cupped your cheek lovingly. It scared you how fast he managed to change his behavior. How he touched you gently with the hands he used to kill. They were the same hands you remembered, but felt like a stranger’s now.
;;
“Why did you want to meet here?” Dabi walked from behind you with his hands in his pockets. A grin settled on his face once he stopped in front of you. “Don’t tell me you’re looking out for me?”
The corners of your mouth lifted. “Can’t have the city’s infamous villain out in the open, can I? Even if I want to show off?”
He felt pride that you acknowledged how wanted he was, how powerful he was. Compared to how he felt when he was younger, he believed you saw him as a protector now, as someone strong enough to fight his battles. It was his favorite feeling.
You almost stepped back when he reached out but caught yourself. His arms wrapped around your body, pulling you close as he rested his chin in the crook of your neck. Cautiously, you held him back, feeling tears springing to your eyes. For a second you allowed yourself to reminisce. For a second, he was your Touya, just as he was all those years before.
“It killed me to hide from you all this time. I’m glad we’re back together.” He told you honestly, knowing he could let himself be vulnerable with you.
Swallowing back a cry, you nodded. “I miss you so much.”
“I’m not going anywhere this time.”
You choked, holding him tighter. “Touya, I’m so sorry.”
Feeling your body wretch with silent sobs, he pulled back to look at your face. “What do you me-”
Dabi’s heart sank when he saw the heroes circling you two. He rejected his hold on you, glaring at you with betrayal. He was hurt. “Y/N, how could you? Have you lost your mind?”
You shook your head, tears running down your face. “No, Touya, listen-”
“I fucking trusted you. I fucking loved you, and this is what you do? Did you forget all that I did for you? Did you?” He screamed in your face, but it wasn’t because of anger. It was heartbreak.
You almost reached out when they restrained him. You almost regretted setting him up, debating whether to help him escape or not. You just got him back and yet it was your fault he was leaving again.
But you knew in your heart that Touya died a long time ago, and he wouldn’t come back.

tsukishima k - regret
tsukishima kei x reader
description: he knew that forever was not meant for you two from the start.
warnings: angst
a/n: i know ive been mia for months, i actually started college and things have been super hard since, but after this semester i’ll be back home and happier :)
“Would you regret it?”
His question caught you by surprise, making your smile drop and your eyes widen in response. The concerning tone of his voice worried you. But you were experiencing a high, with adrenaline rushing through your veins from confessing just minutes ago. So you pushed back all the worries in the deep parts of your heart, where you hoped they would never resurface.
The corners of your mouth lifted once again as you reached for Tsukishima’s hand.
“I won’t.”
~
But when you are a lovesick teenager, everything in the future seems so far away. It is far enough where you could dream of it without having to be burdened by the harsh reality. No one ever anticipates how fast it sneaks up on you, suddenly right there when you turn around one day. And no one ever prepared you to deal with it.
“I just don’t know what to do.” You cried silently in the middle of your bedroom. While hugging yourself you leant forward. “What am I supposed to do?”
Tsukishima watched you with glossed eyes, but he wouldn’t let a single tear out. “Do whatever you want, Y/N. We’re grown ups now.”
“Are you telling me to throw away seven years just like that?” Your voice was hoarse now after an hour of sobbing.
“If that’s what makes you happy-”
“I don’t know what makes me happy! Kei, please, say something. Anything, just speak your mind! How do you really feel?”
He stared blankly at you, noticing the bags under your eyes that worsen after every night. Years ago, you were filled with so much joy and energy. These days you could barely get out of bed. Tsukishima couldn’t put you back together, not when he knew it was his fault you ended up like this. Not when he knew this is how it would end.
He swallowed back his feelings for you, forcing meaningless words out of his mouth. “I feel that things have changed.”
You sniffled, lifting your head to look at him. “Things have long changed.”
“So let’s end it.”
While biting the inside of your cheek, you shook your head. “Why? Why can’t we work things out-”
“Because you don’t love me anymore.”
“Don’t say that!” All kinds of emotions flew out of you even if you tried your best to control them.
Tsukishima chuckled. “But it’s true. Y/N, you haven’t loved me for a long time. And that’s okay, I really… I really expected it, so it doesn’t hurt as much as you think. I’m okay.”
“Why would you be okay with it? We were together for almost a decade, Kei. How do you live on after that?”
“I told you you would regret it.” He frowned. Tsukishima was afraid you would waste your youth with him. He warned you when you confessed, knowing how hard it is to love him. Some days he really thought it could be forever, but never for long. He could never be the love of your life, even if you were his.

tsukishima k. - vanilla
tsukishima kei x reader
description: tsukishima was the only reason you wouldn’t leave to chase your dreams, and he knew that very well.
warnings: angst, a few? cuss words
Opportunities come and go, and both you and Tsukishima knew that. Some were worth taking, at the cost of leaving something behind in return. Or even someone.
You had always been open with him about your dreams, which he adored. So he knew how important it was when you got offered a promotion that could lead you in that direction. The only downside was it was abroad.
“I’m not going, Kei, stop bringing it up!” You yelled at him, walking around out the bedroom of your shared apartment while he followed behind. “And would you please wash your dish? It’s been in the sink since this morning!”
He ran a hand down his face, frustrated with it all. “I’ll get it done. Only if you take the job-”
“Stop it.” In the kitchen, you suddenly turned around, glaring at him. “Take care of it now. And stop trying to send me away. I’m not taking it, and that’s final.”
He frowned. How could he stop when all he can think about is how devastated you really are? If only he didn’t step foot into that bar, and see how you cried about not being able to go. All because of him. Tsukishima will admit that the guilt of keeping you here was eating him alive, but he figured the regret you would live with for the rest of your life topped whatever he was feeling.
As you went to wash his dish, with no complaint, he knew what he needed to do.
~
You were growing irritated as the days went by. Your boyfriend’s behavior took a total turn and you couldn’t understand why. Way too many times did you receive a phone call from Yamaguchi, saying that Tsukishima stopped by his house completely wasted. He was getting moodier as time went on, and his touches on you felt less personal.
As you stared at his back one night, you started to fear for your relationship. The thought of him getting bored with you was becoming more common. The way he acted with you and with others were too different.
Some days you would hardly see him. And when you do, he would dismiss your affection for him because he was tired. He was too hard to understand, and you were annoyed.
The time on the clock read well past midnight, and you sat on the couch, staring at the door as you waited for his return. The lack of calls or even a simple text made you more anxious, and if he didn’t arrive you were fully prepared to go out and search the whole city for him.
But the door opened, and he sluggishly walked in. You instantly sat up, and went towards him. Tsukishima barely spared you a glance as he kicked his shoes off.
“Kei-”
“I’m tired.” He cut you off, walking past you quickly.
You froze at the scent of a sweet perfume. Vanilla. One that was not yours. It was ridiculous how something as simple as a smell could make you crumble. But it did, and before you could stop it, tears built up in your eyes.
“Oh, my gosh.” You whispered.
Tsukishima stopped, turning to you with narrowed eyes. “What?”
It was hard to even look at him. He didn’t even look like your boyfriend anymore. It had been a while since you recognized that man, who was more of a stranger to you. When did he become so distant?
“Kei, where were you?” You asked quietly, trying not to tremble. He just stared at you. Without an answer, you shook your head. “Kei, please-”
“I cheated on you.”
It all fell apart, with just four words.
You closed your eyes and took in a deep breath, regretting staying up for him. The air around you suddenly went cold, and despite it being so late you wanted to scream. You could physically feel your chest tightening and you wanted to throw up.
Your next words crept out of your throat. “Why?”
“Because I wanted to.”
A shitty explanation.
Slowly, your mind was filled with anger. You opened your eyes to glare at him. “Bastard. I stayed for you-”
“And I told you to go. Shit, Y/N, I was trying to let you down the easy way. It was you who was so clingy that you really passed up a good job for an asshole. That’s your own fault-”
“Do not turn this on me! I’m not the one who cheated!” You shouted.
He laughed. “But you were the stupid one, to stay with someone who doesn’t love you anymore.”
It hurt. “What?”
Tsukishima shook his head, looking down. “Maybe… Maybe I am in the wrong. But you’re no better. If only you paid enough attention to me, I wouldn't have felt the need to go looking for love somewhere else.”
“You don’t love me anymore?”
He answered you without a second thought. “I don’t, Y/N. And I had hoped that you would have taken the hint, but you didn’t. Now, I’m the bad guy.” Tsukishima scratched the back of his neck, once again, walking to the door. His hand touched the doorknob when you spoke.
“You broke my heart, Tsukishima Kei.”
He swallowed, refusing to look at you. “Your mistake for giving it to me in the first place.”
Then he was gone.
~
Tsukishima came home the next day after work. He crashed at Yamaguchi’s, who was startled to see his friend in the early morning. His whole day dragged on slowly, and he dreaded coming home.
It was emptier, he observed.
Almost every sign of you living there was gone. The weird mug he always judged, and your worn out slippers, and the hideous throw pillow you got from your friend, all of it was gone.
Tsukishima sighed, going to sit down on the couch. He leaned back, sitting in complete silence as he tried to gather his thoughts. After a moment, he reached into his pocket, pulling out the cheap, vanilla scented perfume he bought at the drugstore to throw it away.

bakugo k. - touches
bakugo katsuki x reader
description: bakugo hates physical contact, but with you, well, that was a different story.
warnings: none
Bakugo Katsuki hates people touching him.
They had no business to ever do that. His senses were so good that he would growl at them instantly when they started to get too close.
So, he felt alarmed when he felt himself leaning into your touches. His heart would beat faster when you would graze his arm, or playfully ruffle his arm. Of course, he had to act like he hated it. Bakugo refuses to let others know of his fondness for you.
Still, he appreciates the way you hold him, pushing all his worries to the side as he feels it’s just the two of you in the world. He melts when you grab his hand, not minding the sweat that covers it throughout the day. It makes him feel loved.
He especially enjoys that you learned how to read his mood. It makes him feel better when you caress his cheek after a particularly exhausting day. Bakugo looks forward to nights where he can lay his head on your chest, lulling both of you into an early rest.
So, yes, Bakugo Katsuki hates people touching him, but you were too good to be sorted with the rest of them.

haikyu and how they cope with you gone
sugawara, kageyama, tsukishima, yamaguchi, bokuto, and oikawa x reader
description: how the boys cope and move on after your passing.
warnings: angst, loss
SUGAWARA It took him a long time to even sleep in your shared bed again. After a few months, and some support from friends, he managed to step into the bedroom for more than a few minutes to gather some clothes. The door always remained closed, and he noticed there was a slight chill in the room. Slowly, but surely, he sat down on what was your side of the bed, his hand gently touching where you once laid. Though he was sure he would break down, he didn’t. It felt like you were coming home at any minute, even though Sugawara told himself you would never. The rest of the night, he laid in your spot, desperately looking for that lingering but faint scent of yours.
KAGEYAMA It was Hinata who set him up on a date with his coworker. He knew it was killing his friends to see him so alone, and even if the date went horribly at least he would get some type of social interaction. Kageyama would admit, when he saw his date walk in, his mood dulled. It had been over a year since he went out, but he wasn’t looking forward to it. The whole date he couldn’t help but compare them to you. He hated how different they were, even if that was really no one’s fault but his own. It became too overwhelming for him, so he left in the middle of the date, spending the rest of his night drinking while clinging to the memory of you.
TSUKISHIMA He wouldn’t let others see him in pain. Everyone knew how hurt he could be, but was concerned when they saw him keeping in his emotions. Tsukishima would get back into his normal routine as soon as he could. In fact, he had moved out of the apartment you had shared, and packed up your belongings nicely, in a spot he wouldn’t check. It was as if he was desperate to move on without you to spare him the pain. Everyone respected it, but didn’t like how he avoided the situation with you entirely. It wasn’t until one time Yamaguchi crashed over, seeing Tsukishima sobbing quietly over your picture at night did they all realize how much he missed you.
YAMAGUCHI His mourning period lasted only a month, as shown to others. After that he was very cherry and much like his usual self. When questioned, he would simply smile and look up, claiming, “Y/N would want me to be happy.” No one could argue with that. He became a better person, always there for his friends. But at random times after your passing, he finds himself getting waves of sadness, and he’ll lock himself away for a bit so no one else would have to be burdened with taking care of him.
BOKUTO Didn’t stall to pack your things. He knew he had to do it sooner or later, and he thought it would be respectful to you to get it done. Akaashi offered to help him, but Bokuto declined, saying he needed to do it himself. Surprisingly, it went better than he thought. Of course, with each item he picked up, a related memory would accompany it, and he would smile while remembering you. It wasn’t until he got to the small box he hid under the bed did he let himself cry. The small ring in the box looked more dull than before, and he knew it would have looked better on your hand.
OIKAWA It was harder to live with each passing day. He know longer had any interest in things like he used to, simply because you were not there to cheer him on anymore. It disrupted his volleyball career, and he was forced to take a break to get better. For a while he pushed everyone away, because the only person he wanted help from, was the only one who couldn’t offer it to him. It takes months before he’s willing to do something about his state, and only after much convincing from people that you would hate to see him like that.

kageyama t. - what once was
kageyama tobio x reader
description: love was not enough to fix a mistake this big.
warnings: infidelity, curse words, angst
“Hey, I love you.”
Twenty four hours ago, you would have repeated the same thing back. In fact, you would have ran into his arms, peppering his face in kisses as he tried his best to control his smile. It would lead into a night with just the two of you, sharing your bed closely even though it was large enough to spread out. Twenty four hours ago, you were fine.
But this is the present, and his voice is cracking while you painfully wrap your arms around your own body, desperate to find that warmth he gave you earlier; It was not the same.
“Y/N,” Kageyama tried, taking a tiny step forward.
You shook your head violently as your body racked with sobs. “No, no! Just go.” It was hard to face him. Your eyes closed, and you turned around. “Just leave.”
“I’m so sorry. I-I don’t know what to do-”
“Leave, Tobio.” You hated how weak you sounded. “Please.”
He sniffled, wiping his eyes. “I’ll fix it, okay? I… I’ll find a way, I always do-” “She’s pregnant with your child.” You told him, in complete disbelief that he is treating the problem as almost nothing. “How could you even fix this?”
The hurt on his face was highlighted by the streak of moonlight through the curtains. His lower lip pouted, and he ran a hand through his hair. “Fuck!”
You shook your head, watching him beat himself up. “You can’t. There’s nothing you can do to make any of this better, you know that.” It all came out strained as if it were too painful to even think of these words.
“But I love you. Y/N, I love you so much, I can’t- no… I won’t leave. Not like this.”
“Tobio.” You met his eyes once again, giving a small smile. “I love you too.”
Kageyama’s eyes lit up with hope once you voiced your feelings. Though it was a difficult situation, he almost felt that things would work out. He started to reach for you, but you pulled back and his stomach dropped.
He stammered, “W-what…”
You shook your head. “It’s love that will keep hurting us.”
As soon as those words left your mouth, he knew there was no way he could make anything better, at least, not for a long time. Kageyama’s hands fell by his side and his heart felt numb.
Comforting him would just hurt you and him, so you stood in your spot, and looked away. “You should go. The only thing you can do now is move forward… even if that means without me.”
He couldn’t leave when you were in reach. You knew that very well. So you walked away first, into the bedroom you once shared, curled up in the bed he once held you in, alone.

daichi s. - a million thoughts
suwamura daichi x reader
description: daichi had a lot on his mind, but it bothered you that you could never figure out what.
warnings: angst, fluff
Sometimes thoughts were loud, to the point where they were the only thing you can hear in a crowded room. Not just your own, but you found that others’ often become too overwhelming for you.
“You should quit now,” Kiyoko tried to take the bottle from your hold, but failed yet again.
With pursed lips, you shook your head. “No. The night is still young.” To be more specific, the night was not young. In fact, it was nearing almost three in the morning, leaving both Kiyoko and Tanaka beyond tired.
He tilted his head to the side as he looked at you. “Y/N, I really think you should put it down now. You’re gonna regret it when you wake up.”
“Then I just won’t sleep!” The statement was funny to you. “Can’t regret it if I don’t sleep!”
With a sigh, Kiyoko turned to Tanaka. “Is Daichi almost here?”
Checking his phone, he nodded. “He should be here any minute now.”
After a few more minutes, there was a knock at the door. Knowing it was Daichi, Tanaka got up to let his friend in. Normally, they wouldn’t have a problem with you staying over, but it was obvious there was more to your visit than catching up. Having been in a relationship themselves, they were able to recognize the behavior of avoiding your relationship problems.
“Thanks, Y/N wasn’t answering the phone all day, I almost checked every hospital I could.” Daichi said while catching his breath. He had rushed to their apartment complex only to find the elevator was under construction, giving him no choice but to climb the seven flights of stairs after a long day.
“Of course. But honestly, what did you do? I haven’t seen Y/N this bad ever.”
“It’s just… been a lot, lately.” Daichi awkwardly explained. “Don’t worry, nothing too bad.”
Tanaka took a second before nodding. “I get it.”
Meanwhile, you frowned seeing your boyfriend. Instantly, you pointed an accusing finger at your friend. “Why did you call Mr. Stupid Pants?”
Kiyoko grabbed your shoulders. “I told him too. It’s time for you to go home, Y/N.”
Tears built up in your eyes for the silliest reason. You pushed Kiyoko away just to grab her yourself. “Shimizu, you don’t love me! Why would you send me away so early?”
“It’s damn near dawn, Y/N.” Tanaka muttered under his breath, stepping forward to rescue his girlfriend from you. “And she’s mine, back off.”
“Yeah right, baldy. You’re just a quick stop on the ride to Y/N-ville. Don’t get too full of yourself.”
Daichi hurried and stepped in before the two of you could continue. “Come on, Y/N. Let’s get home-”
But you harshly moved back, denying him the ability to grab you. “Don’t… don’t touch me. I can get up- ugh- myself!” Standing up too quickly made you lose your balance for a moment. “See!”
All three of them watched as you staggered towards the door, slipping on shoes that definitely were not yours and walking out. Daichi turned to apologize to his friends, but thankful they kept his significant other safe so late at night.
“Thanks, guys. I’ll call you in the morning.”
Tanaka yawned. “Make sure you bring my shoes back too. Or I’ll personally report Y/N for robbery.”
Kiyoko slapped his chest before addressing Daichi. “Just be careful on the way home.”
He waved goodbye before chasing after you. You had already made it to the stairwell, holding onto the bar on the wall for support and mumbling random nothings.
Although he wanted to take you back to your shared place quickly, he stayed behind you as you got down yourself. As you both reached the parking lot, words from an earlier fight were recalled.
You had started to sober up when you reached the car. Instead of letting him open the door for you like usual, you got in yourself, slouching in the passenger seat as he started the car. Neither of you spoke on the way back.
Daichi opened the door to let you in first. Even if it was late, the darkness and silence gave you an unsettling feeling. You slowly walked inside, your emotions suddenly raging inside of you.
He quietly shut the door behind you. “Let’s get to bed. We can talk in the morning.”
His tone was not filled with affection at all. You couldn’t blame him, though. He worked since the early morning just to spend the rest of his day looking for you. You knew he had every right to be frustrated with you, but you still hated it.
“You don’t even want to talk to me, anymore?”
Although it was a whisper, he heard it. And with the deep sigh he took, you were able to hear all the possible thoughts inside his head. It made your eyes brim with years and you bit your lower lip to keep you from crying.
Without responding to your comment, Daichi walked past you without sparing you a glance. He rubbed the back of his neck as he said, “I’m tired, Y/N.”
“So am I.” You said, breathlessly. He stopped in his steps with his back turned to you. Your hands moved your hair out of your face just to fall at your side right after. “Gosh, Daichi. You must feel good that you can sleep your tiredness away.”
He stayed quiet, not exactly knowing what to say to you at that moment. It only made you feel worse. You knew there were a million thoughts running through his mind. He was a loud thinker.
But like always, you couldn’t figure out a single one.
“Say something,” You tried. “Something, anything. Do you hate me, do you want to break up- I… I can’t tell.” Lowering your head, you choked out the next words. “Did you ever even love me?”
As soon as he heard that thought, he was wide awake. His body reacted faster than his brain as he pulled you into a tight, and desperate embrace. Daichi began to feel tears of his own as you held him back.
He swallowed before asking, “How long have you thought that?” And how could I not know?
It took a moment to respond. “I just can’t tell-”
“Don’t ever think that ever again. Damn it, Y/N. How did I make you feel this way?” Inside, he was beating himself up. Over the past years, he never purposely hurt you, but he forgot to make sure you didn’t get harmed by his obliviousness.
Daichi would admit, lately he didn’t put in as much effort in your relationship as he did before. But it was never due to lack of love. There were just new priorities added into his life and he had trouble organizing them. It was stupid excuse, he knew, but it was the only truth for him.
“You still love me?”
“Still? Damn, I can’t believe I even let you think I stopped.” Daichi buried his face in your shoulder as tears fell down his cheeks. “I’m so sorry, Y/N. I love you so much.”
Daichi’s mind was full of a million of thoughts throughout the day. You could tell, of course, despite never knowing exactly what he was thinking. But he would now make sure that you knew one of his thoughts would always be about loving you.

kageyama t. - purple hearts
kageyama tobio x f!reader
description: kageyama always showed a slight interest in certain love letters of yours, but you never thought they would be so important.
warnings: angst (as always)
At least a couple times a week, you opened your locker to find a few letters. They were confessions, of course. While you appreciate them, you never bothered to read them since you wouldn’t accept any. They all went in your bag, before finding their way into a metal box under your bed. From there they would remain until you would eventually get curious, and open them in the near future.
“Ah, another love letter for Karasuno’s princess?” Hinata mocked one day after class.
“Don’t you have somewhere to be?” You asked him, turning the letter over in your hand and glancing at the sticker that sealed it quickly.
He leaned against the locker next to yours. “I’m waiting for Kageyama and- Well, speak of the devil.”
The boy walked towards you two. “What?”
You shook your head. “Nothing. What took you so long?”
Kageyama eyed the letter in your grasp. “I forgot something. Is that another purple heart?”
While you received all kinds of letters, the ones sealed with a purple heart were always consistent. The sender never failed to deliver at least once a month, and although you never opened any of them, it warmed your heart that the person continued to hold some love for you.
“Mhm.” You grinned, carefully placing it in your bag. “I was worried for a bit that they wouldn’t send it this month, but I should’ve known better.”
The three of you settled into a soft pace while walking out the school. Granted, the two of them had volleyball practice, but that never stopped them from walking you to the school entrance after the school day was finished.
With crossed arms, Hinata looked at you. “I don’t get it, Y/N. How come you don’t open them?”
“I don’t want to look at someone’s confession when I’m not going to like them back-”
“Ohh! Is it because you like someone?” His cheeky grin grew wide.
The abruptness of his question caught you off guard. With panic, you glanced at Kageyama, who was quiet throughout the conversation. But he didn’t seem bothered or even interested. It gave a funny feeling to your stomach.
With a scoff, you brushed his question off. “S-shut up! Why would you even ask something like that?” The tone of your voice lowered, and you avoided Hinata’s gaze knowing that on your cheeks lay an aggressive blush. “Anyways, I have to go home. Have fun at practice, guys!”
“Bye!” The two waved, watching as you disappeared before turning to each other. “Race you to the gym.”
~
After another month, you were pleased to find a familiar letter in your locker. The sight of it had you smiling before you could stop yourself.
“What are you smiling at?”
“Oh, my gosh! Tobio! Make some noise!” His sudden appearance startled you. You clenched the letter to your chest and tried to calm yourself down. Kageyama only raised an eyebrow at your reaction.
“I was standing here for two minutes already.”
“And you didn’t bother to let me know that?”
He shrugged, sticking his hands in his pockets. “Purple heart again?”
This time, you didn’t try to hide your small smile. “Yeah. Don’t you have practice-”
“It’s cancelled because of the weather. Want to walk home together?” Kageyama held up an umbrella, prompting you to look outside. The gentle but growing falling of the rain already had you shivering.
“Yes, please.” You answered with eagerness, earning a grin from him.
As soon as the two of you stepped outside, you didn’t hesitate to cling to Kageyama’s side. While part of it was to keep both of you under the safety of the umbrella, another part saw it as an opportunity to be close to the person you had feelings for.
“Your shoulder’s getting wet.” You frowned, tugging him closer.
“It’s fine.”
“If you get sick, you can’t play volleyball, Tobio.” That logic allowed him to relax against your touch. “Sometimes I wonder how you would get through life without me.” You joked.
But he nodded. “Then, let’s promise to never find out.”
His response made your heart flutter. There were times when you wondered if he could possibly reciprocate your feelings. But you always talked yourself out of it, knowing that dating was one of the last things on his mind at the moment. Kageyama was always setting up the foundation for his volleyball career. There was no way he would set aside time to like someone.
Still, it was nice to even imagine.
“Unfortunately, I think I’m stuck with you. Have fun getting rid of me.” As he looked down at you, you stuck your tongue out playfully, making him let out a quick chuckle.
“Yeah, yeah. That’s until you open one of those damn letters and leave me.”
He meant it as a joke, but the reality of his words struck your heart. Slowly, your smile faded from your face, and you held his arm tighter. An unsettling silence bloomed as you stared at your feet.
Suddenly, the question tore from your throat. “Do you… do you think I would ever open them?”
Kageyama took a second, before asking you, “What reason do you have to not open them?” When you didn’t answer, he cleared his throat. “I mean, it’s not like you already have someone you like… do you?”
You should have told him. At that moment, you should have poured your heart out to him. But the fear of your confession backfiring held you back. Despite your heart screaming not to, you shook your head. “I don’t.”
Kageyama opened his mouth to say something, but his better judgment stopped him. “I see.”
You had to know now. “Well, how about you. Do you have someone that you… you know… like?”
It hurt you when he spoke.
“Yeah, I do.”
Those words made your heart twitch. Of course he already had someone he liked. It was only natural. Hearing that, you subconsciously loosened your hold on him. The walk home now seemed longer and it was killing you.
Once you two made it to your home, you suddenly were filled with nothing but regret. As you watched Kageyama go, a new realization hit. While you didn’t technically lose him, it sure felt like you did.
~
It was almost a blessing you didn’t attend his wedding, though you knew you would regret it. That still didn’t stop you from finding an opportunity to miss it via a work excuse. That was what Hinata said he would tell him at the reception.
Work was a good distraction. After all, it had been a good six years since you had last seen Kageyama at graduation. Your friendship was never the same after that rainy day, so you were surprised to receive a wedding invitation.
Although, you had yet to get a physical copy of the invitation. You had first heard word about the wedding through Hinata, who claimed Kageyama had personally thought about asking you to come. Though apparently an invitation was mailed, you never received it.
“Are you sure you can’t make it even to the reception?” Hinata asked you over the phone on your way home. “I’ll come get you right now, if you want.”
You smiled at his consideration. “No, that’s fine. It was a long day at work, I’m not sure I have the energy to even make it home. Just take lots of pictures to show me, alright?”
There was a pause on his end. “Okay, Y/N. Get home safe.”
“I will.” You told him before ending the call. A part of you suspected Hinata had once known about your feelings for his friend, but at this age you were grateful he never did anything.
It only took a half hour to get back to your apartment. Your feet were killing you and all you wanted was to just curl up in bed and fall asleep. Inside, you told yourself it was karma for finding an excuse to miss the wedding when you easily could have just gone. But, you’d rather be physically drained than mentally, so you convinced yourself it was a good choice.
Upon making your way to your door, a white envelope caught your eye. It was set right in front of your door. It wasn’t there before you left in the morning, so someone must have dropped it off while you were at work. Your legs burned as you reached down to grab it, carefully studying the handwriting on it. Of course, it was addressed to you, but when you turned it around, you almost dropped it.
Right in the middle of the envelope was a small, purple heart sticker, sealing it. It had been years since you had seen it, and your hands shook gently. Wasting no time, you carefully opened the letter, curious to find out who the sender was after all this time.
As soon as you pulled the contents from the envelope, a breath got caught in the back of your throat. You almost forgot how to breathe as you overlooked the invitation to Kageyama’s wedding. Overwhelmed, tears began to build up in your eyes. You reached into your bag, digging for your keys to unlock your door. Once you were in, you ran straight to your room and kneeled on the ground.
You almost thanked your younger self for bringing that metal box with you when you moved. For years, it had remained under your bed without you having a single thought of going through it. But now you were, specifically for the letters sealed by that damn sticker.
You grabbed the first one you saw, ripping it open with a sense of urgency. As you read the letter, your throat started to burn.
Dear, Y/N,
Today I accidentally bought two banana milks, so I gave one to you. You instantly drank it, and then took a nap on your desk right after. I know you probably won’t read this for a while, so I thought I would tell you how pretty you looked. Even with your hair sticking to your face because of your drooling, you still looked pretty.
That’s all.
Bye.
It was funny how you knew exactly what he was talking about. For you, you could remember that day as if it were yesterday. You wondered if it was the same for him.
Dear Y/N,
I know I like you, but I didn’t know it was possible to like you more. You proved that to me, when you showed up to our game today. I almost went the entire play without knowing you were there, but something made me look up into the stands, which I’m glad.
You’re always pretty, but seeing you in that moment cheering us on made me realize you are the prettiest in the world. I really mean that, so don’t think of yourself as less.
This seems forward, but I hope that even in the future, you’ll still come to my games so I can see your prettiness. But honestly, even if you don’t come, just stick by my side. That’s enough for me.
His words brought a painful smile to your face. It felt like you were talking to a younger Kageyama. Even today, you questioned if he remembered what he wrote to you.
All the letters were random, but managed to tug at your heart. You could recall every single moment that he wrote about, and it killed you how you never opened them sooner. It all made sense now. He would always mention the letters when you got them, and he lingered around your locker many times, no doubt waiting for you to turn your back so he could slip it in. You started to beat yourself up for not noticing that those were his letters, and you put them with the other confessions in the tiny metal box.
Finally, you reached the last letter he sent you. It was the last, because in the bottom corner he wrote goodbye in small writing. It took a moment to build up the courage to read it.
Dear Y/N,
This will probably be the last letter. I made sure you would know it’s the last, if you ever read it.
It’s been a few months since that day. Even though I know you don’t have feelings for me, I still did for you. I still do.
But it’s not doing either of us any good if I keep going. So I’ll stop for our sake.
That doesn’t mean I don’t love you, because I do. And I wish I could tell it to you in person, but I’m a coward, so I won’t. And you’ll never know if you don’t read this, so I’m really pushing my luck.
Thanks for being my first love. I wish you weren’t, because first loves never work out. But still, you were my friend too. And you were always by my side, even when I probably didn’t deserve you.
Anyways, I hope you read this letter before graduation. Perhaps that’s the boost we need to save our friendship, at least. Even if you don’t, and I’m talking to future Y/N, please come see me. I’m sure future me is waiting for you because I’m afraid I could never stop loving you.
That’s all, Y/N. Oh, and I also put some of the purple heart stickers in the envelope in case you ever miss them. Just don’t waste them, okay?
The letter was almost drenched in your tears. Sure enough, there were stickers in the envelope. The same ones he used every month that had you smiling even for a second when you saw them.
But seeing them now just brought you pain.
Especially when they were on his wedding invitation. An invitation that did not have your name along with his, and never will.

oikawa t. - liability
oikawa tooru x reader
description: oikawa only used you for his own selfish reasons, despite the feelings you showed.
warning: angst
His kiss was always gentle. It went along with his hold on you, as if you were the most delicate flower in the whole field. There was never a moment where you didn’t feel safe with him. All your life, he was the shelter during your storm.
But with her, Oikawa showed a range of passion to love her.
He always came to you with a broken heart. You let him love you throughout the night, because it was the closest you’ll ever get to being his. Then in the morning, your friendship resumed as normal. Every. Single. Time.
You’ll admit, it hurt seeing him run back to her. But each time it happened, you’d figure it would only be a matter of time before he cried into your arms and loved you through the pain of losing her.
How pathetic.
But now, you were afraid you got too caught up in your fantasy and realized the reality of the situation. Oikawa would always love her. And as you stood outside his bedroom, with the lewd noises that tore your mind apart, you knew he never loved you.
While he handled you with care, he was not afraid to mark her as his own. You were the broken glass he was cautious of, and she was the fire he was willing to get burnt for. To him, you were merely the liability set in place to offer him reassurance that he’ll never go unloved, at the cost of your heartbreak.

kuroo t. - thorns
kuroo tetsurou x reader
description: falling in love with your best friend should have never been so deadly.
warnings: character death, angst
Hanahaki disease.
You had heard of it before. Through quiet whispers in the halls, when there was a rumor that Misaki had gotten it during your first year. Or hearing about it on the news, when there were new breakthroughs in the operation for it. Although it was a reality in your life, you never once thought it would become your reality.
That all changed during your third year, and it was because of your best friend.
Kenma was with you as you vomited flower petals tainted by your blood. It was hard for him to watch, but even harder to keep your secret. He had been the first and only person to find out. After that, you had made him promise to not tell anyone, especially Kuroo.
“Y/N, we have to tell somebody.” He said quietly as you pulled away from the toilet, wiping away the blood from your mouth and trying to catch your breath.
You violently shook your head. “No, Kenma. You promised me.”
“I know, but I really hate that I did.” He lowered his head, knowing he should risk your friendship and tell someone, but it was harder than he thought. “Y/N, you should get the operation.”
With a frown, you sat against the wall. “There’s only a seventeen percent survival rate-”
“It’s eighteen now.” He tried.
“Kenma. Even if it does work, it wouldn’t fix things between me and Kuroo. It’s worse than dying-”
“No, it’s not!” He shouted, standing up from the ground. “You’re being selfish! How could you just suffer and die without letting anyone know? Without letting him know? You’re stupid!”
He wasn’t trying to be rude, but you knew he was fed up. Of course, it wasn’t fair to ask him to keep quiet, but it was the best option for you. If you could, you would erase his memory so he would forget about this, but you couldn’t. And that hurt you as much as it hurt him. “Kenma.”
But he just clenched his fists at his side, stopping himself from screaming at the top of his lungs. “It’s not fair.”
With a sad smile, you stood up and walked over to him, engulfing him in a hug. “There’s only a very small amount of things that are fair in life.”
His hands grabbed at your shirt in desperation. Kenma buried his face in your neck as he silently cried, hoping for a miracle to save his friend. But miracles don’t work fairly either.
~
It pained you the whole dinner and you started to regret going in the first place. But you hadn’t seen Kuroo in weeks, and Kenma hoped he could push Kuroo to fall in love with you. No one had expected Alisa to be there.
They sat across from you and Kenma. Although you had managed to do your best to act normal and be happy for the couple, every time he held her hand or looked at her lovingly, you felt more and more petals creep up your throat. The more time that passed, the harder it was to keep them down.
“When we had our first date, he cooked me fish. I had never had fish on a first date before, so I immediately knew Tetsu was different.” Alisa was telling you and Kenma.
But at the mention of him, you gripped your glass of water. How could he let her call him by your nickname for him? It made you sick. Literally.
Kenma eyed you as you covered your mouth. To them, it wasn’t anything alarming. In fact, Alisa and Kuroo hardly noticed as you coughed up a small petal into your napkin, quickly hiding it under the table. It was painful for you, and the sound of Kuroo laughing started to make his stomach turn upside down.
“Y/N, Kuroo tells me that you haven’t decided on any plans for after graduation.” She questions you. “You should never put off anything for too long, especially with how competitive it is out there.”
Although your throat was burning and your chest tightened, you forced a smile. “I’ll keep that in mind, thank you.”
Kuroo turned to Alisa. “Y/N is incredibly smart. And so talented. If anyone can be successful, it’s Y/N.”
He was complimenting you, but why was he looking at her? It made no sense to you, or Kenma. But you kept quiet as the conversation shifted back to another story about the happy couple.
With each laugh and each touch, Kenma grew angry. The difference on each side of the table was so drastic. You were suffering while Kuroo was the happiest man alive. It was as if he was losing both of his best friends but couldn’t do anything about it.
He felt you tense up next to him, and watched as you turned away from the table to cough up more petals into your napkin as quietly as you could. But Kuroo’s happy voice was all he could hear, and it made him snap.
Everyone froze as Kenma pushed his chair back and stood up. “That’s enough!”
You stared at him in worry. “Kenma-” But your voice cracked, and you couldn’t stop the petals that creeped up your throat and into your hand.
Both Kuroo and Alisa looked at you in surprise, and he almost reached over for you. “Y/N-”
“Don’t, Kuroo.” Kenma said through gritted teeth. “You don’t get to care anymore.”
“W-what?”
“Kenma, you promised.”
But he shook his head, knowing if he didn’t say it now he would regret it for the rest of his life. “Not when you’re killing Y/N.”
Kuroo’s face fell, glancing between you and Kenma. It was as if he got slapped in the face by the realization brought by Kenma’s words. He let go of Alisa’s hand under the table and blinked, his eyes settling on you.
But you refused to meet his gaze. You were upset, even though you couldn’t blame Kenma. You asked him for the impossible, because if the roles reversed, you wouldn’t hesitate to get him help. The only problem was you were long past help and had already accepted the inevitable.
The tears stung your eyes, and you got up yourself, walking out of the restaurant without another word. Kuroo had chased after you, grabbing your wrist just outside to stop you.
“Let go!” You yelled, pulling away from his hold and turning around.
“Y/N.” His voice was stern. “Wha- How could you not tell me?”
“How was I supposed to? ‘Hey, Kuroo, just wanted to let you know I’ll be dead soon because I fell in love with you but you’re with Alisa! See you after class!’ Did you think that would be easy for me?” You questioned him, anger rising by the minute.
But he clenched his jaw. “You should’ve told me. Not wait until you got the operation-”
“I’m not getting the operation.” You said.
The pain in his eyes almost made you flinch. He looked devastated, as if you had just killed someone. He was at a loss for words, and his brain couldn’t process what you were telling him.
Kuroo looked at the ground. “Why would you not get the operation? Are you insane?”
You only pursed your lips and stood your ground. “Kuroo-”
“You have to get that operation. I don’t care if I have to drag you myself. I won’t let you die-”
At that moment, he stared at you as you coughed into your mouth, revealing soft pink petals that just kept coming. It frightened him as you desperately latched onto his arm for support while you struggled to catch your breath. Tears ran down your cheeks even if you tried to keep them in.
Something in that told Kuroo that you were dying, and it was all his fault. Not only that, but there was nothing he could do or say that could convince you to lose your love for him.
“How long?” He whispered. “Please, just tell me that.”
You sniffled, using him to stand upright. Your eyes met as you told him, “Seven years.”
He took a deep breath. “Fucking hell, Y/N.”
“We were just kids-”
“You had seven years to tell me-”
“It wouldn’t have changed anything!” Behind him, you saw Kenma and Alisa slowly walk out the restaurant. They kept their distance, but you could tell Alisa was worried, whether for you or Kuroo, you couldn’t tell. You cleared your throat as you lowered your voice. “Even if I told you, the feelings wouldn’t be mutual. And that would have just killed me sooner.”
He furrowed his eyebrows. “Maybe-”
“No, Kuroo. There are no maybes. You may have loved me, but you were never in love with me.”
He shook his head. “What difference does that make?”
You let out a shaky laugh, letting go of him. “For me, it’s a matter of life or death.” With one last look at him, then at Alisa, you turned on your heel, walking away from them. As Kuroo watched you go, Kenma pushed back him roughly, chasing after you. He let him, fully understanding that he was the only person who could be with you during this time.
~
The next month was full of suffering, for you and everyone you loved. You had finally mustered enough courage to tell your parents, who weaped with sorrow. They saw your pain and helped administer you into a hospital. Towards the end, their visits became more inconsistent, until your mother came last week apologizing. Your parents could not stand to see you like that, which you understood. You wouldn’t want them to remember you as weak and sick anyway.
The only person you couldn’t push away, was Kenma. It never failed, he would always come and sit at your side everyday for as long as he could.
“I knew I would get through my third year without you, but I didn’t think it would be like this.” He muttered one day.
You frowned. “You have Kuroo. You’ll be fine without me, Kenma.”
He couldn’t respond to that. Maybe if he just listened to you, he could accept it and actually be fine. That’s what he told himself. Though he stayed quiet, you saw him bite his lip and how damp his cheeks were when he finally looked up.
It rained in the morning on the last day, which wasn’t fun for you. While you were struggling to breathe, you at least wanted to see the sun one last time. It would also be terrible for Kenma to walk to the hospital in that weather, only to find you gone.
When you opened your eyes, you knew it was the end. It was only a matter of time now.
“Y/N.”
It took a lot to face the door. Kuroo was sobbing as he walked in, standing before you. Your best friend and your murderer. He didn’t know what to do except throw himself at your side, grasping your hand with desperation as he cried.
“I’m sorry! I’m so sorry! I always wanted to come in, but I was scared.” Kuroo threw his head down in shame. “Me, scared, even though you’re like this because of me.” He wiped his eyes with his arm. “Y/N…”
But you barely had any energy to speak, so you could only listen.
Kuroo cupped your cheek. “I love you, Y/N.”
As you exhaled, you knew he was telling the truth.
But his love was not the kind that could save you. It was the kind that swallowed you whole just to spit you out, setting your heart on fire while you choked out your feelings for him.
Feelings that would not be returned.
