I had so many books that looked like this when I was young. It was always so heartbreaking when a book I loved fell apart. Sometimes it was the binding, maybe just made a little worse than other books, not prepared to hold up against multiple reads, being left on its face to keep my place, being carried all around with me.

I have multiple books in my library that have been lovingly taped back together, because even if I could afford to replace them, I don't think I would.

My copy of Eragon/Eldest and Inkheart come to mind, but I know one of my Story of Ice and Fire books is taped. The ones not falling apart are creased and worn. I'm pretty certain a pet chewed a cover of one of my Redwall books. I've actually -insert gasp of horror here- marked my physical/original copy of John Dies at the End to shit, jotting down thoughts and ideas, taking notes.

My favorite books are like my friends. Sometimes they get a little battered by life. So I fix them up and keep them safe, and love them for the time we spent together, even if we don't hang out as often as we used to.

And now I'm crying about books, so thanks for that.
