Literally meaning: Standing as of now (I think)

Therefore it is like the English: Simple Present / Present Continuous

Example in English: I solve / I am solving (because this is the easiest Greek verb ever)

Example in Ancient Greek: λύω (lío)

Example in Modern Greek: λύνω or λύω (líno or lío)

2. Παρατατικός (Paratatikós)

Literally meaning: Extending over a period of time

Therefore it is like the English: Past Continuous

Example in English: I was solving

Example in Ancient Greek: ἔλυον (élion)

Example in Modern Greek: έλυνα or έλυα (élina or élia)

3. Αόριστος (Aóristos)

Literally meaning: Indefinite

Therefore it is like the English: Simple Past

Example in English: I solved

Example in Ancient Greek: ἔλυσα (élisa)

4. Εξακολουθητικός Μέλλοντας (Exakoluthitikós Mélondas)

Some last notes:

Λύ(ν)ω also has the meanings of untie, unfasten etc

Greek verbs change a lot for first, second and third person, both in singular and plural. I only mentioned first person singular. In super short, the persons are lio liis lii liomen liete liusi for ancient and lino linis lini linume linete linun for modern in Present.

These forms change significantly for Middle and Passive voice which are more complex than the Active voice. In super short, passive first person singular in all these tenses is liome eliomin lisome elisamin or elithin lisome or lithisome lelime elelimin for Ancient and linome linomun lithika tha linome tha litho eho lithi iha lithi tha eho lithi for Modern.

Λύ(ν)ω is the first verb taught in Greek schools in Ancient Greek class because it's simple and regular.

Ancient Greek verbs have six moods while Modern Greek verbs have four of them. I only used the indicative mood and it's more than enough.
