Today's @wolfstarmicrofic prompt is Not a Date!
(625 words.)
"So, how did it go?" Lily asks excitedly, dropping down into the seat beside Remus in the Common Room. Remus frowns, a little confused. For a second, he racks his brain, tries to find something in his day for Lily to be asking about.
"How did what go?" He asks eventually, giving up. Lily looks at him as though he's spontaneously learnt another language, which does nothing to ease Remus' confusion.
"Your big date!"
Okay, yep, that hasn't helped.
"Big date?" Unless he's really daft, he hasn't been on any date today.
"With Sirius! Come on, I need details!"
Shock immediately ripples through Remus, his eyes widening almost involuntarily. Yeah, he and Sirius had been in Hogsmeade all day, and yeah, it was really nice. That doesn't mean he was on a date with him! He accepted a while ago that Sirius was never going to see him in that way, anyway.
"That was not a date," He says quickly. Lily only smiles at him, clearly slightly puzzled.
"Come on, you've been all sad about your crush on him for months! You're telling me that the sadness stopping the moment you go to Hogsmeade together is a coincidence?" She says triumphantly, as though she's just proved this magic point, brought everything together.
She really hasn't.
"No, I stopped acting all... sad, about it, because I accepted the fact that he's never going to feel the same way, and I may as well just enjoy our friendship. We went to Hogsmeade as friends!" He explains carefully, but Lily just eyes him disbelievingly.
"Just the two of you."
"Yeah!"
"No Peter, no James?"
"Yeah?" He really doesn't see where she's going with this.
"And where did you go?" She asks calmly. "Not round the shops, Marlene would have seen you."
"The three broomsticks," He says. "We just... talked, I guess. It wasn't a date." The more he thinks about it, the more Lily's thought process is starting to sink in. "Wait. Was it a date?" He asks her, glancing up.
"Oh my god, Remus. I love you so much, truly, but you're an idiot."
"Hey! We never agreed that it was a date! It's just... he did only ask me, and we did sit really quite close, but..." For the second time in the space of five minutes, Remus is sent into a state of shock. He's practically stunned into silence.
"Right, forget details. You need to go and talk to Sirius." With that decided for him, Lily reaches out and practically shoves Remus off the sofa.
It's enough to get him moving; making a beeline for the dorms and shoving the door open.
Sirius turns his head the moment Remus walks in, offering him a soft smile.
"Was that- was it a date? Did we go on a date?" Remus blurts out before he can stop himself. It probably isn't the right thing to have said, based on the way that Sirius' face drops.
"Did you... yes, it was a date! I've been trying to ask you out for months!" Sirius exclaims quickly. "Was I not clear enough?" His expression twists into one of worry at a startling pace. Remus just wants to reach out and pull all of the worry from him. "Because we can forget it ever happened! Y'know, if you don't... feel that way."
"No! No, I don't want to forget! I'd- well, I'd actually quite like to go on a date that I know for sure is a date," Remus explains.
At that, Sirius' face lights up, all traces to anxiety gone. Remus would say that over and over, if that's the reaction that he's going to get.
Merlin, Lily's right. He really is an idiot. How could he not tell before?

someone probably said this already but in spiderverse i think it's interesting how when pavitr was first introduced everyone thought something bad was gonna happen to him bc of how confident and optimistic he was. and then in the actual movie we see that something bad was supposed to happen to him (police chief dying!) but it doesn't! miles stops it! and miguel berates miles for this, says it's going to cause the universe to collapse or whatever.
there's this idea that tragedy is inherent to spidermans growth, and while it's true that some spiderpeople learn important lessons through loss, no one stops to ask, is it really necessary? yeah, maybe the chief was supposed to die. but why does spiderman have to be formed through tragedy? why do we (as heroes) have to let people die? pavitr didn't lose anyone, and he's still a good spiderman! maybe, if he doesn't suffer, he'll end up better off for it!
so while miguel is arguing for all this big picture stuff about saving the multiverse he's lost sight of what it really means to be a spiderman, he's not looking out for the real individual people. yeah it's just one person who would die, but that one person means something to someone. shrugging and saying "stuff just sucks sometimes, we can't do anything about it" is the opposite of what superheroes do. pretty obviously, miles arc is also a reflection of the struggles people face in real life, working within unequal systems, where it's easy to shrug and say "that's just the way it is" and not ask "but why does it need be this way? can't we do something about it?"
miguel is arguing that you can't have your cake and eat it too. presumably, miles and co. are going to find a way to get around that and change things for the better (and maybe that's why miles has that line about two cakes in the advisors office!)

My favourite hobby is trying to imagine the most no homo superbat moments DC would actually be willing to do but it's hard because we already have:
There's only one room/sharing a bed
Being the other's black mercy dream
Canon in a genderbent universe
Almost-kiss (with an ulterior purpose)
Being the one the other'd miss most if they died
Innuendos & jokes (of varying levels of seriousness) about being married
Rescuing eachother naked
and that's just off the top of my head.

ok so as someone still relatively new to TWST (and someone just taking the events as they come to EN instead of keeping up with the JP side) and as a Jack Howl simp
I am of the (CORRECT) opinion that he should absolutely get an Applepom look because... fwuffy. and hat with ear holes. and he'd be SO insistent that he's used to the cold and doesn't need it but he will take it once it's insisted on because he's polite and won't refuse Gramma Felmier
Also I think a fun twist on the "someone's sled breaks and their plushie tears so they have to come up with another idea" bit from the other event is that Jack goes wolf mode to pull the sled (because as said in his starsending wish he pulls sleds back at home on breaks to try and get faster as a wolf!)
I'm biased though because I need more Jacc in my life
Thoughts?
thank you anon for bringing the mental image of harveston Jack into my life. he would be SO fluffy...so warm...he would haul so many apples...
also while I love the imagery of him pulling the sled, I feel like that would probably get them insta-disqualified. :( unless they can somehow 1) convince the judges that this enormous talking wolf is actually a very well-made plush, and 2) get Jack to go along with it (I do think Jack would instantly respect Marja as being more alpha or whatever and would have to, like, choose between his sense of JUSTICE, or going along with cheating at this sporting event so an authority figure doesn't get mad at him) (...wait this is just the plot of episode 2 again) (DANGIT)
