Shouto sees Kaminari seated on one of the sofas by the TV, a Pikachu-printed blanket around his shoulders, and it’s not until he gets closer until he can see what��s on the screen. Some sort of video game Shouto knows he’s seen some of his classmates playing before.
Kaminari seems to notice his approach; the blond turns around, slightly startled, until he realizes it’s only Shouto. Then, Kaminari smiles and gives him a small wave. “Hey, Todoroki.”
“Hey,” Shouto answers quietly. “Didn’t expect to see anyone down here.”

Or, Shouto wakes up in the middle of the night and finds Kaminari down in the common room, so they hang out together and play some Animal Crossing.

“Hey, Aizawa. Miss me?” Denki Kaminari grins as he’s handed over to the exhausted-looking guard for another round in some juvenile detention center.
“Maybe if you would stay out of here long enough for me to even consider it, I might.” Aizawa glares as he goes through the motions of getting him booked.
“Aw, you know me.” Denki snickers. “Just couldn’t stay away from Rush’s god-tier food, ya know?”
“I’m sure,” Aizawa mutters, waving him through. “You got friends this time. First timers, try not to spook them.”
“Will do, sir.” The blonde laughs as he’s escorted away.

“So, what are you in for?” The chatterbox grins after barely sitting down to tell the other two in the room his life story. “Mine was just selling weed.”
His baffled block mates glance at each other but ultimately shrug.
“Sato Rikido.” The most muscular in the room speaks up. “I’m by no means proud of it, but there was this guy that kept coming into my folk’s cafe to order and kept harassing my mom. When she turned him down and explained she was happily married, he went full asshole and suddenly nothing could please this guy. I usually work as a busboy and offered to say something, but she wouldn’t let me.”
He shot a glare into the distance before speaking again. “This last time he made her cry in front of everyone, though, and he was laughing and bragging about it. Between my mom crying and the uncomfortable customers, I saw red and he had a much better lawyer than we can afford, so here I am.”
Denki frowns, brows furrowing.
“Yeah, no, fuck that guy. He had it coming and I hope he gets no bitches,” He decides, turning to the dual-colored boy closer to him before Sato can argue. “What about you?”
“Todoroki Shouto...I didn’t actually do anything, but I guess my father got sick of his puppet not cooperating so wasn’t willing to actually investigate who stole and maxed all of his credit cards. Pretty sure it was my older brother since he showed up again recently with a rap sheet as long as he is tall, but juvie is easier to pay to cover up than adult jail and brother would make as much of a fuss as possible to ruin father’s reputation so here I am.” The quiet boy says with a shrug.
“Todoroki...Todoroki...OH! Touya’s brother, right?” Denki snickers when Todoroki nods in surprise. “Yeah, asshole still owes me money for a gram so I can see it.”
“A...gram?” Todoroki frowns in confusion. “He owes you crackers?”
Denki blinks before bursting out laughing. “Yeah, you definitely don’t belong here. You’re too cute for jail, even child-sized.”
Todoroki just blinks in confusion, but before he can ask any questions, guards are at their door to escort them to their actual beds for the night.
None of them argue it.
With Todoroki used to following orders, Sato being terrified, and Denki still talking Hizashi’s ear off, there was no reason to, so they were probably the easiest group of the night.
Night being the key here.
“Are you sure about this, Denki?” Sato mumbles as he tries to walk as normally as possible with stolen extra chips stuffed in his clothes. “Won’t this get us in more trouble?”
“Nah, man, it’s fine. It’s Toshinori’s rounds and he’s a certified himbo. We’re fine.” Denki shrugs, openly carrying his haul. You said you wanted something salty, and for juvie, this place’s chips are pretty bomb.”
Sato fidgets, panicking a bit when a bag of chips starts to fall. “Shit!”
“Young Kaminari! Young Sato!” The previously mentioned guard booms cheerfully. “Helping deliver snacks?” He smiles, holding up a bag one must have dropped.
“We’re supposed to get snacks?” Sato whispers, falling silent when Denki waves him off with a grin.
“Yup!” Denki grins, holding up the chips proudly. “Taishiro thought we earned it.”
Sato doesn’t recognize the name and realizes Denki was lying, but also that he should probably stay quiet.
“Excellent work then, Young Denki!” Toshinori grins in return. “Keep up the good work!”
As Toshinori walks away, Sato deflates in relief. “You’re crazy.”
“And you’re having fun.” Denki snickers as he continues walking.
Sato hates to admit it, but he is.
He wasn’t expecting to make friends here, but Denki has a gift for steamrolling that.

“Yo! Todobro! Any news yet?” Denki grins as he slings an arm over the quieter boy’s shoulder when he sees him after mail delivery. “Dabi fess up?”
“Dabi? Oh, right. Brother’s street name.” Todoroki hums with a shake of his head, hoping his growing hair covers his flushed ears. He was not used to receiving positive attention,, but something about the hyper blonde had his stomach twisting in knots and he didn’t know how to even begin asking about it. “Dabi is eager to confess, but father is working to get it closed and erased. Apparently being a legacy is making something harder for once.”
Denki notices the small smirk on Todoroki’s face and snickers.
“Thinking of taking Dabi up on his take-down effort?” He hums, leaning more into the other boy’s space and finally noticing his face getting red. “You okay? I know one of the groups has the flu going around, but they’re usually pretty good about wiping down the yard between us.” Denki questions, holding his palm to Todoroki’s forehead and feeling him get warmer. “Dude!”
Todoroki blinks, not knowing how to act normal about his heart trying to escape his chest and silently cursing private tutors and homeschooling for it.
“Todo?” Denki questions when he’s just blinked at owlishly.
“Pretty.” Todoroki finally mumbles, silently delighting in Denki joining him in being flustered.
“Huh?” Denki squeaks.
“You’re pretty,” Todoroki replies bluntly with a small smile before his eyes widen happily. “Oh, is that why my chest feels funny? It got worse when you blushed too.”
Denki, juvie hardened criminal that he is not , makes another embarrassed noise but smiles dopily all the same. “You’re not too bad yourself.”
Denki wasn’t expecting to leave this round with a new friend and a boyfriend, but he wasn’t going to complain.

"i'm not upset, shouto-kun," he laughed gently. he placed a hand on shouto's shoulder. it was warm, so warm that its heat sunk through the cotton fabric and raised a few goosebumps on his skin. "you don't have to apologize. you know, boyfriends usually share each other's clothes. it's not like, um, unusual or anything."
"do they?" shouto muttered distractedly. izuku's eyes were especially pretty up close and his eyelashes were so curly. "interesting."
izuku's smile broadened, and shouto was instantly winded by the sight of it.
"i think you look cute." he said, almost whispered, like he was sharing a secret.
"do i? i didn't know i was cute."
"you're always cute, but you're especially cute right now. you look so tiny."
"almost as tiny as you?"
izuku huffed. "hush, you."
or, in which shouto likes to feel soft, likes to be held and kissed and reminded that he's not just his father's toy soldier, but a person, worthy of love. and class 1a is more than happy to support him as he explores his own identity and preferences. however they never accounted for just how adorable shouto could be and just how badly it would torment them all.
