the way teenage bounty hunters DESERVED a second season. like what a tightly written, quippy, funny little show with so much heart. there’s so much good going on in it but things I particularly love:

Twin themes!! There’s so much good foreshadowing surrounding the big reveal (iykyk) and there’s also so much DOUBLING. Double lives especially is a big theme. Like, Debbie hiding Dana; sterling and Blair hiding their bounty hunting; the (functional) froyo shop being bowser’s bounty hunting lair; Terrance the lone wolf bounty hunter and bowser with his little “teen white savior” teammates; Yolanda’s sister who is a perfect foil for her; miles hiding Blair from his family; sterling hiding april from Blair…and then april hiding sterling period.

And I guess the doubling is kind of showing like, here are all the possibilities and here’s what happens when we let love in and here’s what happens when we shut it out

so much good stuff about being from the American south. As someone who grew up in the south and who grew up visiting close family in Atlanta…it is cool as fuck the way the south is portrayed in all of its complexity. The show does not shy away from issues of race, religion, SES, etc SPECFICALLY in Atlanta and manages to do it in a way that doesn’t come across as heavy handed. This show could ONLY be set in the south—it would be a fundamentally different show in any other setting

Also, like I said with the doubling points above, this show is full of secrets and secret keeping!!! But yet a fundamental point of the show is that being silenced is one of the worst things that can happen to a human being. There’s a scene where Blair is telling sterling that her dad yelled at her and that the worst part of all is that he told her to Be Quiet! And like in some ways that scene highlights what a loving household Blair has grown up in that the one of the worst things her Dad has ever said to her is be quiet (not even shut up)…but it really made me be like wow being told to stop questioning and be quiet IS something terrible. It’s a denial and a violation of our right to use our voices

and like it’s not a coincidence that in the final ep Dana gags sterling. Because the way sterling is talking to her is powerful and you can tell it is making her hesitate and question her whole life

so yeah anyway watch teenage bounty hunters! Or if you haven’t in a while, it’s definitely worth a rewatch

There’s a very specific type of antihero I’m noticing that loves committing atrocities for the heck of it, but figures out that their in-universe moral coding means they can only karmically get away with committing atrocities if it’s for their family (to save them, help them, etc).

And their response is to build the BIGGEST FOUND FAMILY EVER so they can get away with committing EXTRA ATROCITIES.

And it works.

Max/T-Rex: good instincts, charm, class president, BMOC; risk-taker, hot-dogger, jock, easy smile and laid-back demeanor, serous de facto leader. Tom Cruise's "Maverick”, big ego, feels like he's leading the Marx Brothers onto the beaches of Normandy. He was winning in life and lost this so he's now a bit bitter

Fiona/Spinosaurus: Billy Murray + "Old" Rosie O'Donnell, speed freak. easy going, fast driving, tomboy-athlete, quick wit, need for speed. When not burning rubber she's “kicking it” with the guys.

Caruso/Stegosaurus: wants to be cool at any price, changes personality at will, bit funny, bit like Scooby, empty headed ego. Thinks he's better than others, ultimate wannabe, incredibly vain and self-centered, attention span of a gnat. Every new passion is his ticket to mega-stardom. A teen version of Ben Stiller's Zoolander, "I'm too sexy for my shirt”.

Buzz/Pteranodon: false hero, scared, bitchy funny, bit like Shaggy, tough-talking loudmouth, all show no guts. Wants to be a tough hero, but afraid of own shadow. The bigger they are, the harder they fear! Joe Pesci as the Cowardly Lion, turned Cowardly Dino.

Rodger/Styracosaurus: Chris Rock + MacGiver, under appreciated, gets no respect, makes cool multi-tools... “and it also makes great cappuccino!” Why? Because it can! wise-cracking, limitless technical skills, drives others crazy with an endless practical jokes.

sypnosis: taking care of a very drunk nate. that’s it. also fluff.

You sighed as Nate stumbled into your apartment, his steps unsteady and his words slurred. He looked like a lost puppy, his usually sharp features softened by the haze of alcohol. "Nate, come on, let's get you to bed," you said, guiding him towards the couch. He plopped down onto the cushions with a heavy thud, a lopsided grin spreading across his face. "You're so pretty," he slurred, his words barely intelligible.

You chuckled softly, shaking your head. "Thanks, Nate. Now, lie down and try to get some rest." Nate let out a dramatic sigh, flopping back against the pillows. "But I'd feel better if you kissed me," he said, a mischievous glint in his eyes. "Don't," you warned, trying to suppress a smile as you tucked a stray strand of hair behind his ear. He pouted playfully, reaching out to grab your hand. "Come on, just one little kiss. It'll make me feel better, I promise."

"Nate, walk in a straight line," you teased, gently pushing his hand away. "And maybe I'll consider it." He let out a dramatic groan, throwing his arm over his eyes. "You're so cruel to me" he whined, his words muffled by the fabric of his sleeve. "Only because I care," you retorted, shaking your head in amusement as you reached for a nearby blanket to drape over him. Nate let out a contented sigh, his features softening as he nestled further into the cushions. "You're too good to me," he murmured, his words slurring slightly as he closed his eyes.

A fond smile tugged at your lips as you watched him, feeling a swell of affection in your chest. "And you're a handful," you replied, unable to resist teasing him even in moments like these.

He cracked one eye open to peer up at you, his gaze filled with drunken adoration. "I’m aware," he said, his voice softening as he gazed up at you. "That's why I love you."

Your heart skipped a beat at his words, a mixture of surprise and warmth flooding through you. "Nate..." you started, unsure of how to respond to his confession.

But before you could gather your thoughts, Nate's expression shifted, his eyes widening in realization. "Wait, I have a song stuck in my head," he announced, sitting up abruptly.

Before you could react, he started singing at the top of his lungs, his voice loud and off-key. You quickly clapped a hand over his mouth, stifling your laughter. "Shh!," you whispered urgently, glancing around the room. "What?!" Nate exclaimed defensively, his eyebrows furrowing in confusion.

“I have neighbors that are sleeping!" you whisper-shouted. Nate rolled his eyes dramatically, his lips parting to retort, but you shot him a stern look, silencing any further protests. As he settled back against the cushions, he muttered under his breath, "Well, aren't we the neighborhood watch?"

With a desperate sigh, you pleaded, "Nate, please go to sleep," your voice laced with a mixture of exasperation.

With a defensive raise of his hands and a shrill voice, Nate let out a low chuckle, his eyes still closed, a tired smile gracing his lips. "I am," he replied with exaggerated flair, his words barely audible over his own amusement before being knocked out cold. His soft snores filled the room, ruffled hair framing his face—leaving you to ponder, “what am I to do with you?”
