Dancing with our hands tied - even if the lyrics don’t create perfect parallels, I think the main theme of the song being two people that want to be together, but feel their relationship has a lot of baggage would fit them well. Yrene has to get over her hate for Adarlan (even though she has every every every right to hate Adarlan) and Chaol has to get over *himself*. “I, I loved you in spite of Deep fears that the world would divide us So, baby, can we dance Oh, through an avalanche? Thought I knew for a minute, but I don't anymore” This was essentially Chaol’s thought process wondering why him an Celaena don’t work anymore and feeling like... a “we were supposed to be together 5ever what happened.... besides me not doing much to prevent her bff’s death and working for the dude that orchestrated the murder of her nation ?”

August - if I’m being honest this song fits them too not my fave song from folklore being for my least favorite couple in this story but if I gave Feylin some of my all time favorites I can give this one to them, but like “But I can see us lost in the memory August slipped away into a moment in time 'Cause it was never mine And I can see us twisted in bedsheets August sipped away like a bottle of wine 'Cause you were never mine Your back beneath the sun Wishin' I could write my name on it” Even though Chaol was ready to leave it all for her (he would literally cancel plans.. his life plans in case she’d call) she knew that this was an impossibility, their time was brief and it slipped away like a bottle of wine. She could never be his, because she was not entirely herself with him being Aelin meant opening up a lot of things and if Chaol had a hard time getting past a lot of Celaena’s traits then we can imagine the work, literally work he would have to do to accept Aelin... you know what, we don’t have to imagine it... it’s right there in QoS and ToD, anywho, he could never write his name on her back because she was never his, because he did not accept her for all that she was.

Aelin x Dorian x Chaol:

Some days they laze around in bed, grinning and whispering and rutting, and there’s little to it but sweat and sex and soft white hair like moonlight glowing in the sunlight, and it’s easy to love her.

Other days she sits in a corner and broods. Or she disappears on Abraxos to do gods-know-what before the sun has fully pushed away the pink fingers of Dawn and Dorian is left to brood on his own. Whenever Asterin sees, she snorts and tells him to stop looking like a kicked puppy. He tries but it’s hard, even though Manon always comes home at the end of the day, hands him a fist full of wildflowers and he smiles and loves her again. He can’t help it- loving Manon is hard when he’s alone.

On the worst days, it’s not her fault at all that it’s hard to love her. It’s his own. The shadows steal into his mind overnight and he is left watching Sorscha die over and over and over again. Or he’ll catch Aelin laughing with her head tipped back, arm in arm with Lysandra and he’ll have to look away. Aelin is Queen of Terrasen; Aelin is married to a male who would walk through Hell for her; Aelin killed Celaena Sardothien a long time ago. It doesn’t matter, though. Celaena steals into Dorian’s nightmares, wrapping herself around him to the sound of a haunting piano, loving him like she was born for it; his beautiful assassin, the girl he freed.

But on good days, the days that outnumber the bad, loving Manon is easy and Sorscha’s head is driven away and Aelin’s fangs flash in the sunlight. Manon is easy to love. Her eyes are gold, her hair is liquid moonlight, and her body is slim and strong and his, a thousand times his by the goddess’s grace. Her smile is small and lazy, pointed iron teeth hidden by closed dark lips. Her eyelids are pale, veins hardly visible, thin skin dropping to hide golden irises with a fan of thick lashes. Her hands are smaller than his, covered in a hundred scars, her nails sharp and iron and deadly, proof of her vitality.

He loves her. He loves her. He loves her.

And before anyone comes at me because I do reblog their content and they do make my heart go ⚡⚡, I will say that I can't actively ship them like I ship Elucien, for instance, because I feel I need a bit more on both ends. Like I need Az's perspective and him getting better, facing his darkest thoughts, talking to Mor; and as much as I liked Gwyn in ACOSF - and believe me I do- I want to spend more time with her. But I know that once they hit the page in their own right I will be very happy to lead my own ship in the Gwynriel armada.
