And the thing about my bestie Minnie is she’s got short hair which seems like a plot hole in my theory

But if you look at Minnieerus hair from the back it shows just as much volume and potential to be long enough to weigh her ears down so my theory is my girl just chops her hair like every day so she looks cool with her short hair and floaty scarf thingy

Bakugou and being a “damsel”

people always use the term “damsel in distress” as meaning “this person is only suffering for the sake of another character,” and that’s just completely untrue to how they’re trying to apply it to bakugou now.

you know the thing about bakugou being “damseled?” it always comes in the form of him sacrificing himself for the win/save, and it’s never JUST for the sake of another character.

their exam where deku punched allmight to get bakugou and they got to the gate together was after bakugou sacrificed himself and declared that he’d continue to mess himself up for victory. that moment showcased bakugou’s resolve as a hero that wins and deku’s need to save anyone he sees needs it despite himself

in the first war where bakugou sacrificed himself to save deku, and in turn got up to save his allies and win, deku went berserk due to his sacrifice being insulted. it showcased bakugou’s growth as a hero who saves to win and emphasized deku’s “control your heart” plot point in regards to bakugou and OFA that has yet to be addressed.

both of those times above, they failed in 100% all-in teamwork due to lack of cooperation from bakugou’s insecurities or deku’s self sacrificing taken to the extreme because he wanted to keep everyone safe and “do his best” as the holder of OFA to destroy AFO. but this time, it’ll be different.

now, with the pending “damsel in distress” role for him, i believe that once again it will come in the form of a sacrifice. right now, it’s just like the allmight exam — he was beaten down and his insecurities over the power gap were on full display (AFO even talked down to him about them), but he’s still gonna give it his all to win. i think with this new evolution he’ll be pretty damn close to foiling AFO’s plans (he already called his leading attack a few chapters ago amazing, it’s why he broke his arm) and since he couldn’t break his spirit or keep him down and bleeding for deku to find, he’s either gonna do something else to take him out of the battle, or since he couldn’t get to him he’ll go for deku mainly instead — either way, i expect bakugou to make a sacrifice here, and for deku to need to “control his heart” once more—

— but this time bakugou will see, and this time he’ll get through to him what deku couldn’t remember before — that they’re still in this together (and who else better than kacchan could help spring this development?). this time, his sacrifice would not be in vain (since last time deku still charged in on his own and almost got the power stolen). it’ll work for both deku’s character to keep that in mind and fight to win without casualties plus keep a clear head despite emotions in a battle like bakugou in order to save shigaraki (win to save), and their relationship development to which bakugou is always either unconscious or not there during the moments where he could see how much he means to deku really. the spin on this trope is to say that kacchan isn’t a damsel just for the sake of deku or that someone else MADE him one. he made the sacrifice in order to get shit done, and regardless he’s not gonna be down and out — he’s gonna WIN, and they’re gonna do it together.

Crooked Kingdom spoilers (and heavy criticism) ahead, please don't read if you don't want to.

Okay, I've just finished reading Crooked Kingdom, and let me tell you something: the end was absolute shit.

It has ruined the entire book to me honestly. Because you either make all your heroes lose, or you make them all win, but you do NOT decide to kill off one of the main characters FOR ABSOLUTELY NOTHING when all the others get a happy ending.

Because it simply does not work. The whole point of the first book is that they become some sort of a found-family group. The whole point is that they will do this all TOGETHER. No matter their fate they will do it as a united front. And yes, of course, there are tensions and evolutions and progress and step-backs but the point is that either all win or all lose.

It's even clearly mentionned when Wylan says that they were all supposed to make it. They were supposed to all make it. Or to all fail. And it was probably a way to say 'hey, reader, you thought they would all make it but no! They can't break from the doom of their lives' but THAT WAS THE WHOLE POINT ON THE TWO DAMN BOOKS!!!! To me it just ruins the whole thing. Because why then give an ending that's almost too good to everyone else except for Matthias and Nina ?

And when I say a too-good ending, don't get me wrong, I'm glad that everything ends well for the rest of the group. But Inej did not need to find her family to get a happy ending. Breaking free and getting to hunt slavers and having a chance with Kaz was enough. Wylan didn't need to get his father's money and property, getting away from his father's grasp and staying with Jesper and getting his mother back was enough. Some got it almost too good. I would have been contempt with less for them, they could have had progress to make still. A promise of a search for her family, a place to find of his own will. I like these happy endings for them, don't get me wrong. But to me it isn't balanced. Why offer too much to some and nothing to others?

Especially given that Matthias's death is MEANINGLESS in the story. What is the point? It doesn't teach anyone a lesson. It doesn't make the plot progress drastically or move in an unexpected twist. It's just there, coming out of the blue, it ovcupies barely a chapter, it doesn't draw enough grief at all. It misses the impact. If the message was simply to say 'not everyone can get a happy ending' or 'not everyone can change' it was proven time and time again in these books. And yet Inej's final thoughts with Kaz are that indeed everyone can change. So again... what is the point? There isn't any. Nina doesn't use her powers to resurrect him, which would have made sense. Again... what's the point?

And don't give me the 'but in life people just die with no reason...' because that's the whole point. This is not life. None of it is realistic. And in such a book where the whole plot relies on carefully crafted plans... why put something that doesn't make any sense and doesn't better the story by any mean?

To me it's truly about breaking a contract with your reader. You have enough plot twists in the story to wonder a dozen times whether or not they will make it. But you KNOW that they will, because it is the contract. Everything leans towards the final happy ending. They are not doomed enough to fail. To kill off your main character like this, with a death that means nothing, you must show the reader it will happen. They must try to get away and yet you KNOW they will fail. The element of surprise, to me, is better used when it leads to what you expect: you wanted to hope that they would live, they got so many chances, and they fail, every time, and they die. Or on the contrary, you know they will live, they have plenty of surprises thrown at them to make you doubt it, and yet they survive. It's not about not liking to be surprised, it's about the lack of consistency in the writing and the structure of the plot. Pulling something out of nowhere like Matthias's death, shot by a stranger, does not make sense. He was shot by a younger version of himself, you will say, it is a sign of doom indeed, but it wasn't foreshadowed enough to be relevant. Matthias is still struggling but he's winning. There is no doubt thay he's getting over his hatred for Grisha, that he will not fall back into it. So why bring his past back like that? He is not tortured enough for that. He is still struggling, but he is not going to go back to his old ways, so why pretend that his past is killing him, when he has already stepped out of it? It doesn't make sense, it's not logical enough. Not to me, anyway. I guess the message was that Matthias had a fool's hope, that the Fjerdans won't change, not that easily, at least. But the point of the book is NOT that the Fjerdans can change or not. IT IS NOT THE POINT OF THE PLOT. This could have been a story for another book, focused on Nina and Matthias, and them failing to change the ancient ways. That I could have accepted, but here? The point of the books was never about Fjerda, it was about the Crows. The point was not really to protect Grisha at all, it was to protect THEIR group. Grisha or not. It would have been better suited to the ending of Six of Crows, because he struggled more then and Fjerda was central to the plot. So again... Matthias's death misses the point. It comes out of nowhere in Crooked Kingdom, answering a question that was never asked in the first place and failing to bring any element of doom, because to have doom, you need attempts that fail and succeed. One step forward and two steps back. It isn't how it worked here.

I'm just so frustrated and angry, because once again, I am disapppinted by an ending on Grishaverse. It was the same in SaB, and here again... it's so frustrating.

Anyway, end of my rant. I'm just so angry, I had to talk about it.

Our Nature

I can’t stop thinking about the tension between what we call ‘human nature’ and what we could be. Time and again we’ve defied our instincts and pressed forward. We glibly board a metal tube with some spindly bits and fly deeply ‘unnatural’ distances without much care. That is absolutely not in our nature.

Frequently, our ability to outthink our hindbrain bites us in the ass. For instance, there’s something demonstrably wrong with our food supply because the math isn’t there to blame personal failing for how heavy Americans have become. That would require most of us to have no self control—if that were true, society would descend into chaos.

Progress is in the tension. It’s that place where we can imagine better vs. our outdated operating system. We are nowhere near where we need to be to actually fix the code, but I think through our ability to gather and disseminate information, we’re writing a pretty solid macro. Discovery has hit unimagined speed because more and more of us have access to each other.

It really got going with the printing press: Gutenberg’s Bible to the pamphlet to the newspaper to film to television to the internet. We simply want to be heard, and the more others hear us, the closer we come to remembering that we are all simply human beings, made of the same stuff.

Consider the female and the male. It’s likely, based on the forms our bodies take, that we were meant (evolution/god—are they really so different?) for the male body to protect the female body while she protected the small bodies. There’s a beauty to it, in a way. Men were once the battlements and women were the close quarters fighting force. Both united in one goal: keep the children alive. It would be pretty silly to only have one line of defense.

I’m fairly certain it was the moment when one sex decided they were more important than the other that it all went to hell. At present, we cannot know who shot first, I can see either scenario being quite likely. Regardless, it introduced the rot of one human being having more inherent worth than another. Every single cruelty that stalks our society can be traced back to that concept.

Our understanding of time is too brief, too quick. A lifetime is forever to an individual, and yet genuine change takes centuries. When you step back, we’re moving like lightning. And, hot damn, I’m so fucking proud of us. Because progress always wins. We slide back, but we keep standing up. Bring us to our knees and we’ll take a single breath, but then we stagger to our feet.

We are not selfish, cruel, brutal creatures by nature.

We are stardust that somehow made magic.

If I can throw my two cents I always felt the entire 'Robotnik returns' story was a missed opportunity. In a story concept I did, instead of the OG Buttnik just going 'poof' again, he decided he'd rather 'merge' with Eggman than just go quietly into the night, if just to assure himself Sonic will be dealt with 'properly' since his 'counterpart' can't seem to do the damn job by himself. That way you get the OG back, but also the evolution of Robotnik into 'Eggman' when Flynn takes up the pen.

God that story sucked. I still tell myself that wasn't actually Robotnik, but rather a kind of 'Echo' brought to life by Knuckles' Chaos Shenanigans and Eggman's tech.

That being said, I've toyed with similar ideas myself- I like this idea of Robotnik and Eggman, after a long period of conflict with one another, deciding that it no longer matters who wins so long as Sonic LOSES. And in doing this basically decide to fuse with each other in order to dedicate everything they have to making Sonic and the whole of Mobius suffer for every indignity ever inflicted upon the both of them.

And damn you wrote that in one sitting?? It’s really good

I liked the fight scene cause I could actually visualize what it might’ve looked like. Fight scenes are only written good if your readers can see what you wrote down, and you did a great job with that

Also Hau and Alakazam taunting Iris and Salamance was funny. They’re adults but still so sibling coded

But the parallels with what Lysandre said to Diantha, with how the world shouldn’t change and stay how it is, and now to Diantha looking at Hau and Iris, and seeing that it’s alright for things to change because good can come out of it

Yaaayy, I'm the shounen-parody anon. Thank you so much for replying and it was so good hearing someone else gush about jjk too, you really made my day! Now I'm gonna ramble on again, if that's alright with you.

Yeah, about the dickmeasuring contest, the Sukuna-Gojo fight is an outlier and shouldn't be counted because I don't respect either of them 😔 (just kidding)

Okay, now back to main events, I don't think (only hope) that Gojo can survive this. EVEN if he manages to defeat Sukuna, he wouldn't stand a chance against Kenjaku in that state and let's be honest with each other, Kenny isn't a honorable man, he wouldn't just let a golden moment like this go by. (Gojo originally declared war on him afterall, and if he actually went and singlehandedly took out both of the big baddies then that would also suck storywise).

I fully agree with you on the Sukuna-Kenjaku-Tengen triad, altough I'd never REALLY considered Tengen in that way up until now. In my opinion it's all connected and I think Gojo dressing up as Toji is a lead up to Kenjaku and Yuuji's final fight. Kenjaku is Yuuji's mother (Gojo is Megumi's "foster father", currently donning the clothes of his actual father, whom he killed. Just as Kenjaku donned the "clothes" of Kaori, who was also presumably murdered by Kenjaku) and Geto is the equal but opposite of Yuuji, just as Sukuna is to Gojo. Megumi and Gojo's techniques are interlinked (Infinity vs Void, seemingly the opposites, but actually rather similar to each other. Also both Mahoraga and Gojo are symbols of balance) and if Yuuji's technique is confirmed, then switching places (whether it is his inherent technique, Sukuna's technique or one of the death paintings' he has swallowed is up for debate) is also similar, yet inherently different to Kenjaku's body-snatching.

Perhaps... perhaps if it's all (or somewhat) true, then maybe... just maybe... there could also be something more about the Tengen-Shoko-Nobara triad too? Or what if it's not Shoko, but actually Yuki, we should consider into the equation? Just thinking about the possibilities makes me dizzy. (Okay, so here is how Nobara can still win). What if Nobara was a Star Plasma Vessel and since she couldn't survive her injuries, she had to fuse together with Tengen as a last ditch effort? Or what if she was saved by Shoko and then Tengen realized the potential in Resonance (it could be highly effective against someone like them) and hid her away until the true(tm) plan was set into motion? If Nobara could somehow manage to take out Tengen once they were fused together with all of the cursed spirits, then they could fulfill both theirs and Yuki's goals in the end. (Sort of a Reverse Uno Technique)

But that doesn't matter now, what matters is that I'm 90% sure that Kenny and Tengen were hate-fucking back in the good old days and I can't stop thinking about it. Also, what if it's Tengen who drove/pushed Kenjaku to madness, intentionally or uninentionally, like in Yuki's and Geto's case? Both Geto and Tengen took on the role of religious leaders (I mean... one directly lead to the other) and both Kenjaku's and Yuki's main motivation was "evolution". Geto consumed and was consumed, Yuki refused to be consumed. Aaaah, there is just so much there too. Damn you Gege.

(If any of this is incoherent or incomprehensible, that's not just the language barrier, I am simply incapable of being normal about JJK even in my native language, so it's a challenge either way)

- Alain's making his first reappearance since Pokemon XY&Z. How did you feel when it was decided that Alain was to reappear?

It's been about 6 years since his last appearance, so I've been looking forward to it! This time, since it's been since Alain last met Ash, I wondered what kind of battle Alain would have with Ash... but it turns out it's not only just Ash, but the Champions from other regions are also here in the Masters Tournament. This made me even more psyched.

- Do you feel that Alain has grown or changed in any way compared to the old series?

He's grown more mature...? Or rather, I feel like his perspective has broadened a bit. But I think Alan's original fighting spirit is alive and well!

- It seems that Alain will appear as a part of the Masters 8 in the Pokemon World Championships.

Personally, being a part of the Masters 8, similar to the Elite Four, means that Alain holds Champion level strength, so that made me happy. For Alain, whose goal is to master Mega Evolution, it's a place where he can challenge strong opponents, and I feel that winning is a stepping stone for Alain.

- What are your impressions of the other members of the Masters 8?

Leon is the strongest. He gives me the impression of a passionate entertainer. Cynthia gives me a cool and mysterious impression. For Steven, I get the impression of a calm but strong person. Also, he seems to live an elegant life. Lance is confident. He gives the impression of a provocative and aggressive person. Like Steven, Diantha also gives off an impression of a calm but strong person. She also seems to be living an elegant life. (laughs) Iris gives the impression of being energetic. She is straightforward in what she likes and seems to have many friends. And finally, Ash. Ash is Ash. (laughs) He is just like I remember him from when I was a child, loving Pokemon and working hard at everything he does.

- What is Mega Evolution to Alain who is aiming to master Mega Evolution?

I think that Alain believes in the infinite potential that is hidden behind Mega Evolution. The deeper the bond with a Pokemon, the stronger it becomes. I think he believes in the potential of Mega Evolution and strives towards it.

- What do you expect if Alain were to battle with Steven and Ash in this Masters Tournament?

I would love for him to fight both of them. In particular, I think Alain himself would like to fight Steven since they were never able to finish their last battle. Alain and Ash have had a good battle in the finals of the Kalos League, I want them to battle each other again to see how they've grown.

- Other than Ash and Steven, are there any other Masters 8 members you want Alain to battle?

I'd like Alain to battle Iris because I think that it would be a fun battle, just like battling Ash. I'd also like Alain to battle Diantha since they're both from the Kalos region.

- What should we pay attention to when watching Alain's performance in the Masters Tournament?

What kind of Pokémon will Alain battle with this time, and whether his partner Charizard's Mega Evolution is even more powerful, and above all, who will be his opponent!　I hope you look forward to Alan's growth.

For one thing, Idgaf what people say about the graphics I thought they were beautiful. It was almost a fucking oil painting in there

I mean yeah, the shadows did get pixelated a little bit. or a lot. But like compared to the constant flashing-while-loading-in BS that Violet's textures pull that yanks me out of it this only kind of nudges at my brain and then I immediately forget about it

Also THE POKEMON. THE WAY THEY ARE RENDERED. I ASPODSIDFDS

Makes me RABID (though I have to say here that Violet wins this one because. Textures)

AND THEY CAN BE SO FUCKING BIG OR SO FUCKING SMALL lemme tell you about the time I caught a Ralts that was sO fucking tiny that when it evolved it was FIANLYL the size of an AVERFAGE SIZE RALTS

Would've loved to see that one pan out into a full evolution, but again. I restarted the game. She's lost to time now ;v;

ANYWAY ALSO THE ATTACK ANIMATIONS LOOK AMAZING AND THE FACT THAT YOU COULD MOVE AROUND DURING BATTLE SHOULD HAVE BEEN KEPT IN FUCK VIOLET FOR REMOVING IT I WANTED TO BATTLE WITH MY FUCKING POKEMON AGAIN

Also the Pokémon actively trying to kill you was terrifying holy shit some of them had NO mercy and I wound up missing it more than I thought I would. Like it was legitimately more interesting when you had to avoid two-feet-tall little furballs because they'd give you reverse defibrillation if you looked at them funny and fuck me it never got any easier to get used to

Pokémon turned into a HORROR GAME

AND they made it a fUCKING HEADACHE to get rare Pokémon. No more fucking around in long grass waiting until you found one you have to Actively Park Your Ass Somewhere (and most of the time hope to god you didn't scare the little fucker away. Which I did. Many times. My aim is awful)

And while your Pokemon can't walk with you they CAN do things for you and you can vibe with them and once you're close enough with them they'll start falling asleep with you around and you can send out your ENTIRE TEAM AT ONCE

Which can look. Interesting. (Umbreon is much smaller than I initially thought, for starters)

Moving on from mechanics and textures and things!

The story had me tied in from day one. I don't know how common the time traveler trope is (Ik there's a name for it but I can't remember how it's spelled, forgive me) but this is my first time playing in/with it and it takes that idea and goes full fucking throttle and you can even go all in by having your player character be clueless about their own past and ASISDONF

THERE WAS A SURPRISING AMOUNT OF FREEDOM and the free roam thing really said "yeah fuck it go wherever"

I will gladly admit that I only got lost in Violet and never here but the game damn well tried (and the icelands are a nightmare when there's a snow storm, can't see shit if you're unlucky)

Also fuck Kamado. I wanted to kick him off a cliff so bad. The paranoid fuck kicked out a TEENAGER and yeah no I don't care how many times he apologizes I still wanted to tell my Luxray to fuckin' go at him with all she had

AND INGO. INGO INGO INGO INGO

Never knew who he was until PLA but now I would kill and die for him someone send that man back home it's been tEN FUCKING YEARS LETHIMGOHOME

At the end of the day, are you doing right by yourself?

As I continue to figure out my external transition goals, I think it’s important to recognize all the internal work that we have all done to get here.

And that transition isn’t just physical (I know I’ve repeated myself).

That evolution of you coming to accept yourself is the greatest part about transitioning, even if you don’t change one damn thing about your physical presentation and appearance.

And if you do decide to make adjustments to your form, it becomes easier to dispel the notions of “passing” because again you’re not doing this for anyone except for yourself.

I recently cut off a lot of my hair - and I prized my hair as a part of my former womanhood. It was intense. Parts of my head are shaved!!

I feel so hot now.

I will likely have long hair again in my life - beauty and aesthetics are passions of mine, irrespective of my gender identity.

But I really don’t care if people say I’m ugly or whatever.

These decisions - this transition process - is LIFE SAVING.

I cut off my hair while simultaneously having a mental breakdown from my PMDD (which I’ve had for two decades) and my trauma processing from past abuse.

I was planning to cut off my hair in December anyway - I’m a planner and that’s what I had planned. And then… I decided, no - it’s time to just to do it. What am I waiting for??

The reason why transitioning in any way you want is so life-saving is that BEING MORE YOU (however that looks like) is significantly better during your worst days than being confined on your best days.

Another anecdote for context (I’m also a neurodivergent queer):

I had a huge crying spell with my psychiatrist earlier this year about going on T (testosterone) because it is so terrifying to have been told that I’m so pretty and whatnot as a “woman” and then also be ostracized (basically my whole life) for not performing womanhood based on American and South Asian standards anyway because everything seems to be under so much scrutiny… and then seeing my trans or gnc friends/ppl online being bullied on the internet for losing their “beauty” or “youth” (which when/if I get my complete hysterectomy for both dysphoria and physical health reasons… I will start to age more rapidly)…

It’s terrifying because I thought I was losing so many things (my privileges, the attention I had before, identity (!!!), etc.).

But I’m winning - and I’m in control of my identity…identity should not be dependent on what others think. Do what you want, if it safe and feasible for you to do so - these things are not trivial decisions.

And please know that even if you’re not conventionally attractive or privileged when other people perceive you as trans or gnc… this is what winning looks like - even if you continue to struggle with life ahead.

You chose yourself.

Continuing Violet Adventures

Gym Team On standby. No progress toward the League.

Team Star Friends. I did it. I beat Eri, with minimal fuss. Agility/Calm Mind/Baton Pass Farigiraf. Her Toxicroak spams Sucker Punch for the first five turns so it’s free boost into Psychic KO, then pass to Skeledirge. Torch Song Lucario and Passimian, then Shadow Ball Annihilape (I didn’t do this, it lived a +5 Fire Tera Torch Song, I’m just as mad as you), then double Torch Song the vehicle. Lucario’s Dark Pulse only dealt like 40 damage. If it weren’t for Annihilape’s survival, we would’ve been completely safe.

Clavell...is tough, dude. So, my initial plan to boost sweep same as Eri. Oranguru has Yawn. So that didn’t work. I instead passed off to Dolliv, who could stall him out with Leech Seed even while asleep. So that went great. Unfortunately, then it was Abomasnow time, and after setting Aurora Veil on my switch to Skeledirge, its Blizzard actually got the freeze, and Torch Song, as it turns out, doesn’t count as enough of a Fire move to thaw out. So instead, Cetitan had to finish the job. But that brought in Houndoom, and Cetitan was my win condition against Meowscarada (I chose Quaxly so I’d have all the starters). So we pivoted to Clodsire...who proceeded to get hit by a burn, and took every single Fire Blast, not dodging a thing. We still managed to win, thanks to Recover/Earthquake, but it wasn’t exactly clean. After that, we had Gyarados, who...tried every move except Earthquake first, but somehow didn’t get poisoned for its hubris. So, Dolliv’s back. And from there, the match ends. Dolliv is basically immune to Gyarados. I gave it Strength Sap, and this move is frankly stupid. So Leech Seed carried there. Then it was Polteageist. Who has Shell Smash, which is scary, but otherwise has Will-o-Wisp, Hex, and Sucker Punch. Sucker Punch could barely hurt us, so it was basically dead in the water. So in comes his Meowscarada. Who can be Strength Sapped. Now, the good news is, Play Rough is no threat, so in my arrogance, I attempt to match him in power, attempting the forbidden Dolliv Sweep. When it ran out of Play Rough and went to Flower Trick, I got to remember that crits bypass attack reduction. We died from over half HP. So I went to Cetitan, expecting easy survival. 271 HP, you know? We lived with only 7. So that was scary. But, first try victory.

So finally, Penny. ...look, I love me some Eeveelutions, but they suck ass. Fortunately for her, I forgot her lead, so Umbreon had a great matchup against Farigiraf, who was slower, and got crit by the first Dark Pulse thrown. Great job, team. I’m so glad anyone who isn’t Dolliv is like this. Clodsire came in, Poisoned, Recovered on a Baby Doll Eyes, switch to Cetitan for Snowscape as the Poison took it out, then Earthquake Flareon. Vaporeon’s Hydro Pump took out Cetitan, but Vaporeon means time to Dolliv. Aurora Beam dealt a good amount, but Dolliv is unbreakable. Even Leafeon’s X-Scissor did nothing, and was healed right off with Strength Sap. Two of those, and the Skeledirge switch-in was free. Sunny Day into Torch Song. Jolteon managed to land Thunder, which I remind everyone is a fucking 50% accurate move in Sun, proving once again than this team is being tested. But Torch Song fried it. Only Sylveon remained, and apparently Skeledirge outsped. It survived, but barely. And that means Clodsire with the finish. And so, the Team Star path comes to an end. Skeledirge team is pretty damn good.

Titan Team Arven actually beat me the first time through. If you can believe that. I tried to lead with Espathra, who immediately got paralyzed and it was a whole problem. We didn’t really recover from that one. Though admittedly, with just one more Pokemon in the final match, I could’ve won with Meowscarada regardless. Oh well. Round 2 will have to take place tomorrow.

Complete Dex We got quite a few. I finally did the eggs for pre-evolutions that can’t be found, like the Gothita and Slakoth and Drifloon. We’re now over 370 entries. Less than 30 remain. I need the other Paradox Pokemon, Miraidon, Slowking, and Palafin, but the others are all evolutions of stuff currently in my possession. We’re doing this. We are making this happen.

Jennifer Galownia: Singing the Harmonies of Dreams Come True

She takes all “things” very seriously because she believes it’s the only way to do all “things” the right way. Like her job. It’s in the medical lab field. Gotta get that right. And her music. Pitch perfect. A wife and a mother? Hey man, those people are her tribe. Her untouchable tribe. Get it, mister? Jennifer Galownia a cop’s wife, a Bridgeport resident ready to defend the village against its social media critics, and she admits she needs to do a better job of slowing down enough to record her family’s ever-progressing evolution. But, for being so dead damn serious so often, Galownia does love to smile and to laugh as often as possible, and she enjoys making herself giggle even if no one chuckles with her. An example? Her job title in the “About” section of her Facebook timeline is, simply, “Being Hilarious,” and her intro states, “Wife and momma trying to raise lions, not sheep.” See? Real deal, right? And then the Facebook Intro continues, “Sang in Washington, D.C. at THE WHITE HOUSE.” Oh yeah, she did that back in December 2018 with the other duo of The Ron Retzer Trio, and if not for her songbird voice and her due diligence while communicating with the Trump Administration, she, Retzer, and Bob Wolfe would not have performed that day in the West Wing’s Cross Hall. That’s because Galownia takes all “things” very seriously because she believes it’s the only way to do all “things” the right way. Jennifer and her father have lived in Bridgeport for several years. What instigated your current music career with the Ron Retzer Trio? I was performing for local fundraisers and churches with some other people around the area, when Ron (Retzer) and Bob (Wolfe) got recruited in 2012 to join the group for a wider variety. After a while, the three of us agreed that our harmonies with each other were something special, so we formed what is now known as the Ron Retzer Trio. It’s been a rewarding and beautiful relationship not just between each of us, but our families, too. We all get to travel together, which keeps it interesting. We’ve all been fortunate to watch each other’s kids grow – mine, Bob’s … Ron’s grandchildren and now his great-grands! You are angry and passionate about the current drug epidemic. Why? Drugs. Well. This is a hard one. Back in 2011, I got hired on by Calloway Labs to help start up inpatient and outpatient drug testing for a local substance abuse program due to new federal guidelines. It opened up a somewhat sheltered viewpoint in regard to the opioid crisis, homelessness and mental health issues as more and more people came in. I am not certain when it became more than just a lab for me, but my office has seen thousands of people over the years. I remember most of them. That August, I remember when staff came to tell me that one of our clients had overdosed. That was the beginning of reality. After news that he died, it seemed to happen every couple of months. I’d meet people at their very worst. Back then I’d go up into the crisis unit where they were, and eventually they’d work their way to the outpatient department. If they did well, and so many do, they would continue with treatment and therapy. But, it seemed every couple months, someone would disappear, get called back out by “a friend” or a family member and the addiction would eventually win out. I wouldn’t see them again. It’s also a rewarding job, meeting these hurting people and watching them overcome obstacles. They’re excited just to get clean, have their own place, and get children back who were removed during active drug addiction. It’s a long process, but I’ve seen many people come up and out of that lifestyle to become productive, professional members of society while implementing the valuable tools and lessons learned. So, I guess I do get angry, and sad, but I am most passionate about the possibilities for all of them to have a rewarding, sober life when they learn their worth. What “season of songs” is your favorite collection of music? The 80’s. They don’t make ‘em like that anymore! And the genre didn’t matter. From country, to pop, rap and R&B, I skated to them all! Galownia unfortunately, has a front-row seat for the ongoing drug epidemic. On a scale of 1 to 10 with 10 representing the worst possible, how nervous were you when your husband went to work as the administrator of the Belmont County Jail? I can’t remember how long Stan served as the Assistant Jail administrator, but I remember when his boss resigned in the midst of the COVID pandemic. I wasn’t nervous that he couldn’t do the job, he’d been doing it for years anyway, but I was nervous because of the daily stress on him. We both knew it would probably increase with the complete responsibilities, due to the fact that it was his neck on the chopping block, even for things he wasn’t made aware of. Adding that to the COVID scare, having to know the ever-changing protocols for quarantining and how to delegate things to a dwindling staff didn’t make matters any better. I never doubted that he would be a great administrator, especially because he had experience in every single part of that jail down to the fire system, and because he’s a people-person and most know not to “take his kindness for weakness” as I’ve heard him say many times. He’ll let you go for a bit, then tell you why you’re wrong. Since bringing the jail through COVID and a stellar passing jail inspection, his retirement at the end of August has been great. He paid his dues and left the new guy a clean slate. He’s enjoying a new job, now not supervising anyone but himself, and he likes it. Jennifer has always been a singer, and she and her family have enjoyed traveling together for performances. Why do you give people a pickle? And now the pickle … I used to work at Stone and Thomas at the mall many moons ago in their housewares department. I would go over to Notions and help decorate the Christmas trees when we weren’t busy. I remember unpacking little pickle ornaments and being so excited to hide most of them, but still make them “kind of” visible. I got to tell people the story behind the Christmas Pickle. My maiden name is Faulkner, which is of German descent. I found it only fitting to share it with others who didn’t know. One day, there was a radio broadcast and I called in and was able to talk about the story of the Christmas Pickle on the air. So, I went out to Hallmark one afternoon to get a brand new pickle ornament that I believe may grace the Novotney family Christmas tree to this day.
